Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2010 Nissan Versa

Driver side rear coil spring broke without warning. car was in motion on a city street. road surface was smooth. no bumps, potholes or railroad tracks.

Driver side front coil spring broke while vehicle in motion on a city street. clunking sound heard thereafter from same area.

My front left suspension coil just broke while driving over a sewer cover on a side street. the front left end of my car dropped a not and a metal piece of coil flew out from the bottom of my car which i recovered. i see this is an issue that had a recall, also never got the airbag recalled.

The particulars: - brought my vehicle into a nissan dealership on 25-jan-2019 to have them handle work related to their air-bag recall - nissan also had a recall program relative to its front-end suspension springs, https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2015/rclrpt-15v573-4667.pdf - on 21-august-2018, one of my suspension coils had completely eroded and the other coil was close to fully eroding. thankfully, the worn-out coils were noticed while the car was not on any roadway. - 8/21/2018 was a tuesday. my supervisor was fine in allowing me to work remotely then while an independent mechanic made the necessary repairs, relative to nhtsa 15v-573. - when i had set up my appointment with the dealership in mid-dec., 2018 (for 1/25/19), i was told by the nissan on-site representative that reimbursement for my upfront expenses tied to the work on the suspension-coil (nhtsa) recall should not be a problem. it was just her location could not facilitate the reimbursement. fiscals are handled by nissan's corporate office. - on 25-jan-2019, the nissan mechanics took photos of the new coils, in order for the nissan corporate office to have that proof. - alas, after a series of emails (which i all have) and phone calls with nissan's corporate office, they chose to deny me any reimbursement for a manufacturer defect, per nhtsa's 15v-573. - so, nissan's defect and recall has me out of > $1,100, thus costing me for their defect! - their internal call-center, based in 0ntari0, closed case on 2/11/19, when nissan's corporate office told me they could not make reimbursement because the independent mechanic did not have the word, "coil" written on the work order / receipt! - nissan sent me, the customer, into minion mode with their defect. it is not existing car owners' faults nissan cannot get new owners to make their payments! this fleecing must not happen!

Recently my wife was driving her car (2010 nissan versa) and the front right coil spring snapped. she was driving at about 20mph on a straight paved road. there were no potholes on this road when this occurred. the result was it gouging out the right passenger side tire. since she was traveling at a slow speed and was vigilant enough to see smoke and stop before the tire was blown out. after doing some research i found that the coil spring breaking was an issue for 07-12 nissan verses. but when calling nissan about the problem. i was told that my car wasn't covered even tho it is registered in one of the "salt belt states".

Front struts making clunking noise, have found a crack in the spring of the drivers side of he car. seems there is a active complaints and a fix for this but has only included for certain states due to road salt. kansas is a midwestern state that also uses road salt and brine for roadways.

Takata recall my dealership said that there's a restriction so that they can't fix it and they can't even get the parts in for my coil springs and my car is completely immobile right now

2010 nissan versa 1,8 hatchback, recall spring issue replaced , and the 7 years old struts are the same now the springs and struts aren't working together this is starting to lead to suspension issue that weren't there before the replacement of the springs the car does not have 30,000 miles yet.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the contact stated that the front driver side coil spring failed while driving in reverse. the vehicle was taken to the weston dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact did not receive a recall notification. the failure mileage was 80,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Leaving work today i noticed a loud clunk from the front end of my car at around 10 mph. upon inspection i found that the front passenger coil spring was completely corroded and broken. calling the nissan dealership i was informed that there is a voluntary recall involving this exact situation but that the recall does not apply to me since i live in a state not listed. i live in a county in kansas that borders missouri. i also work in missouri and the vast majority of my driving is in missouri but this did not matter to nissan and i was informed that i would still be responsible for the repairs. how is this fair? corrosion is corrosion, especially when it is a known defect. this could have killed me or someone else.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the contact stated that the vehicle was pulling in the front end and swayed to the right. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension). the vehicle was to be taken to a dealer for inspection and diagnosed as well as to schedule an appointment for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. while driving various speeds, the front spring collapsed and caused the wheels to lock up. the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as described in nhtsa campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension); however, the vin was not included in the recall. the contact stated that the vehicle was unable to be driven. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 92,000.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v349000 (air bags) and 15v573000 (suspension). the parts needed for the repair were not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available and parts distribution disconnect. updated 01/31/2017*ct

This is a 2010 nissan versa. i bought the car brand new. has 35k miles on it. already replaced transmission in 2013. have had numerous tire issues that the mechanics can't seem to figure out, when i take it to the dealer, they want to charge high dollars and the issue still exists. today while backing straight out of my driveway i heard a huge bang followed by the car not moving forward or backwards. my neighbor came out and informed me that the ball joint on the right front passenger side had snapped. he also indicated that this shouldn't happen to a car from 2010 and with such low mileage. this car has been a nightmare and money pit.

My front coil spring broke on me. i inspected it and it clearly looks like rust damage from lack of rust protectant. i saw there is a huge recall to the front coil springs of nissan versas and the only reason my vehicle did not qualify is because somehow the nhtsa doesn't consider nebraska a 'winter state'. we have winter weather just like other states that were included in the recall(iowa, missouri) and our state does use plenty of salt on our roads. it seems completely ridiculous that my car wouldn't qualify because i'm in nebraska and not iowa or missouri. the fact that i had to spend almost $1k to fix this doesn't make any sense when the manufactuer's defect is clearly the cause. also, it felt incredibly dangerous when this broke on me. i was driving and almost lost control of the vehicle completely. i felt lucky i even made it home and to the dealership for repairs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. while driving 55 mph, an abnormal sound emitted from the front driver side tire. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the shock absorber needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the suspension was defective. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 36,000.

Passenger side front coil spring broke while driving on a paved road in town. there is a known issue with these springs, and a recall in place, but my state is not covered by the recall (even though our roads are salted in nebraska also). the coil rubbed on the tire, ruining it as well.

My front coil spring broke while driving; very dangerous. i had it towed to a local mechanic. it is still in the shop. tonight i found your recall website and learned the front coil springs are listed for recall. i never received notification from nissan about the recall. i suspect they are not notifying customers.

While pulling out of a gas station, i was turning right onto a road at approximately 20mph when i heard a loud pop near the front right of the car. the car would shift towards the right when breaking. i didn't initially see anything wrong and had to continue driving it. when we called local nissan dealerships, they wanted too much to just simply put tue car up on a lift to diagnose the issue. took it to a small local shop, and had it put on a lift. the subframe had a bushing break and separate from the main body of the car, causing the whole subframe to move freely. after having had removed the subframe, it showed enough corrosive rust that it appeared to come off of a car that sat up in northern states for way too long, been driven on salt roads, or exposed to salt for approximately 15-20 years. i am the original owner of the car, and have never left the state of florida in the five years i've owned it. i bought the car with only 8 mi on it and the part failed at approximately 117,000mi. nissan refused to do anything when i called the local dealership, however this rust did not just show up in the last 17,000mi past my extended warranty. the local nissan dealership, and two other shops have had to do oil changes, and not once was this issue brought to my attention. it did not just show up overnight, and in no way within the last 17-20,000 mi.

Right rear toe is out of spec. current reading is .56 degrees and should be .32 to -.05 degrees. alignment service (pepboys) says toe can not be adjusted on this vehicle per manufacture configuration of rear suspension. this seems to me like a safety issue as tire will wear down and also not grip road surface correctly.

I filed case 10786015 and the file upload did not work. this is a retry to include the wheel alignment report (see attached). the rear toe alignment is not adjustable per manufacturer design. i believe this is a safety issue.

In may 2015 the right side front suspension coil snapped. i had it replaced at a nissan dealer at a cost of $270.26. on oct 22, 2015 the left side front suspension coil snapped. it took the nissan dealer nearly 2 weeks to get the part and replace it, at cost of $401.93. the car was sitting in a parking lot the first time and was sitting in my driveway the 2nd time. the broken part was found on the ground at these locations.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaing number: 15v573000 (suspension) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

When driving down the expressway i went over a bump in the road and the driver's side rear coil spring broke. approximately the first 1/2 to 3/4 of a rotation of the bottom part of the coil spring broke off and was sitting loose in the coil spring pocket on the rear axle. this failure appears to be the exact same as the passengers front coil spring when it failed back in approx. june 2015 which i already report (reference # 10726251). i have saved all of the old springs (broken and non broken) when i made the repairs with new part sets that i purchased from nissan dealer in grand blanc, mi.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v573000 (suspension), 17v449000 (air bags), and 16v044000 (air bags). the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (nationwide nissan, 2085 york rd, lutherville, md 21093) and the parts were not available. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. the vehicle was included in but not notified recently of nhtsa campaign number: 17v449000 (air bags). the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. the manufacturer's customer care associate stated that the part may be available in mid spring 2018. the contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension). alan webb nissan (3608 ne auto mall dr, vancouver, wa 98662, (360) 892-9004) was contacted for an appointment. the manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. the contact was not experiencing a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Left front spring broken.

After routine oil change at loughead nissan we were informed that both front suspension springs were broken. the service manager called it "normal wear and tear". the replacement price for a "kit" of struts and springs for both front sides is estimated at $1030. diagnosis was confirmed by pep boys mechanic who said it was an obvious defect. for safety reasons work is being completed at dealer today. vehicle has never been in an accident and we have never hit a bump or anything else that would cause this suspension failure.

I was reading a web site about vehicle complaints and there was 93 complaints about the front coil springs on nissan versus snapping and blowing out tires.i went out to look at our 2010 nissan versa and our front passenger side coil spring is broken.with this many complaints there should be a recall before someone is killed.this is definitely a manufacturers defect with that many incidents.please look into this and get back to me. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Driving over an ordinary bump broke spring on passenger front strut at bottom side. clanging/rattling sound is heard over bumps now. i can move the broken piece with my hand.

The left front coil spring broke 7/23/2015 as i was driving home at approx. 30mph.

Front driver side suspension coil spring broke rubbing 2 inch gouge into tire.

As i was making a left-hand turn on to a road, i heard a loud noise from my passenger side wheel well. i thought it was a rock, as i did not notice anything wrong at first glance when i looked. later as i drove down the same road, i saw something in the road and stopped to pick it up. it was a piece of a suspension coil/spring. i felt around back of the passenger side suspension coil and felt that it had broken off near the bottom of the coil.

My wife was driving the 2010 nissan versa hatchback on a secondary road doing less then 30 mph when she suddenly heard a 'bang' sound. she then claimed she heard a similar sound when making left hand turns. when she asked me to inspect the vehicle i was shocked to see that the driver's side front coil spring had broken in two. that was the last thing i expected to see. the 'similar' sound she heard was the sound of broken section of coil spring rattling around the remaining spring/strut assembly. fortunately because of the nature of the break it was captive and there was no way for it to become suddenly separated from the vehicle while driving. this component on a car should never fail. had she been driving at highway speed she could have been killed. we paid $350 to have one spring replaced!!! i still have the broken spring. the mechanic saved it for me. i also have close up photographs of the broken spring that i am more then willing to provide to any agency investigating this matter. nissan should own up and replace these defective springs before someone is killed.

During routine front brake pad and rotor replacement i was informed by my mechanic that one of the front coil springs was physically broken. it appears to have snapped and it was in jeopardy of popping or puncturing my tire. the mechanic was shocked that this would happen with such low mileage on the car (~25,900, 5 years). he called nissan to ask about the issue and they said it was a common problem. both front coil springs were replaced. i do recall driving around may 1, 2015 on the highway around 65 mph and hearing a loud clattering noise under my car but thought nothing of it at the time. that could have been when the coil spring snapped. ...updated 09/22/15 *bf updated 10/27/2017*cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. while the vehicle was being inspected, the technician stated that the front driver side coil spring fractured and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000.

Part of metal coil spring fell off and car veered to left while driving. brought to the shop. they had to replace front shocks. struts. coils springs and sway bar.

I was driving out of a parking lot at 10 mph and heard a loud pop sound coming from the passengers side front wheel area and smelled burning rubber. i pulled over and noticed a 360 degree gash in the front passenger tire sidewall. i took the tire off and noticed the suspension spring was broken and was scraping the sidewall of the tire.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. while parked, a loud gunshot sound emitted from the vehicle and dirt could be seen coming from the wheel well. after inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the coil spring snapped without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the coil spring was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate vehicle failure mileage was 92,000.

While backing out of a parking space a very loud bang occurred from the front passenger side of the vehicle. upon inspection i noted the spring had fractured. repair required a new spring and alignment. lucky the spring held until i could get to the repair shop and didn't ruin the tire, but total cost to repair was over $250. the left spring had been replaced earlier this year due to a deer hit, otherwise i may have had to have both replaced. looking for a recall on this, as it appears to be a pervasive issue. my repair shop just had another nissan versa in last month with the same issue.

Turning into driveway and the car made a loud popping noise. passenger side front dropped significantly and began rubbing the tire. car repairs in excess of $480 and a tire replacement. also required fog light housing due to severity of the break and subsequent drop of the car onto the top of the tire.

I have been reading reports about front coil spring fractures and now i am afraid to drive my car. it was very hard for me to save to buy this car, i am disabled and on a very low fixed income. i was so proud of it and now i don't know what to do. will you pay to fix it?

Left front drivers side of vehicle was making a "crunching sound" while driving on interstate 81. when i got to work, i looked up the problem online, and discovered it was the same issue that 2010 nissan versa vehicles are having.(coil springs) took it to a mechanic on 5/20/15, and the mechanic identified the problem as a broken coil spring in the front end. replaced the broken spring.

Spring broke unexpectedly, while driving at a low velocity. it's hard to believe that a spring can break as it did. the vehicle has low miles, and the mechanic couldn't bekieve it himself. mechanic informed me that he has repaired two other vehicles, same make and year with the same exact issue, and the same exact side. my estimate for the repairs is $1,500. if nissan is aware of the issue, and has done nothing about it, they should be ashamed of theirselves. this is a safety hazard that can lead to injury or even fatalities. i have been buying nissan vehicles for almost twenty years, but this has made me lose confidence in the company.

Passengers front coil spring broke. approx. 1/2 of first coil on spring broke at lower edge where it mates to front strut. broken coil was discovered when audible sound could be heard from front suspension when starting and stopping or turning left when coil spring would shift on strut.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan versa. while driving approximately 10 mph, there was a loud bang and the vehicle started shaking violently. the contact pulled over and discovered that the front driver side tire was blown out. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front control arm fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51,000.

The spring in the driver's side broke as i was backing the car out of the driveway. i heard a loud noise and the front driver side of my 2010 nissan versa dropped. when i looked at the wheel well, i could see the broken spring. i had the car towed to the nissan dealership for service. the passenger side spring was also damaged: large chunks of the spring had broken off, but the spring had not broken through yet. i only have 25,835 miles on the car. i follow the regular maintenance schedule at the nissan dealer. i am so thankful that this happened on the driveway and that no one was injured. *tr

We live in virginia, while my 18 year old was driving out of high school to come home he felt a huge bump coming around the corner coming home (thank goodness he was close to our neighborhood and not in the highway). he stopped the vehicle close to the house and noticed that as he was turning the coils must have hit the tire but due to the rust under the car from the salt the muffler fell off. this could have cause some severe damage to someone driving behind him if he was driving faster or in the highway. i have called nissan cooperation first to explain the situation. but since nissan representative made a spectacle of herself when i told her i had cancer and its the only vehicle we have that my son takes me to appointments they unavoidably have been avoiding to call me back.. she told me i dont sound like i have cancer!! i didnt call for ignorance i called to have my issue resolved not to have my cancer thrown in my face. they had my claim number #21697765 transferred to their head office due to the insensitivity and the issue. their head office calls and leaves me messages at the worst times of the day and never calls me back when i call. i am adding a picture of the rusted muffler and the damage it could have caused my son and his life and others on the road! truly this is irresponsible on nissan's part!!! i haven't even passed 67000 miles on my car. please know that allstate was called and advised of issue on feb.17,2015 same day as incident. my representatives name was sarah and she advised me to call nissan and they must supply a better part or a better vehicle due to a lack of response and lack of safety parameter of my sons life and if i was i the vehicle, my life!

I have not yet been involved in a crash as a result of this part, but i have also experienced a creaking noise coming from the front passenger-side springs in my 2010 nissan versa 1.8 sl and i am very worried that something similar to what other versa owners have reported in the current ongoing investigation will happen to me and would like to be notified of any changes in the investigation. i have had my car in the shop many times to fix suspension problems that have cost me a fortune and i want to know the minute a remedy has been made available from nissan. again, my suspension has not yet collapsed as a result of this issue, but the creaking sound started in february and has not yet been fixed despite two separate trips to a nissan dealership's service center.
