We have classified the 101 complaints from 2006 Nissan Titan about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
At 55000 miles the rear axle seal on my 2006 nissan titan began to leak causing rear brake failure. new axle seals fixed the problem. *tr
I have noticed my rear axle seals leaking for a while and was told by the dealership that it was not an issue. i have now recently noticed when i use my emergency brake and rear brakes they have been affected by the leaking fluid. i was wondering if this is an issue they should address, or is it just regular maintenance. i have been reading forum complaints about people with the same truck and they have also experienced this problem low in mile. my truck is a 2006 nissan titan se crew cab 4wd. i have noticed the seals leaking since about 40k miles and now have around 56k. *tr
Rear end failure. leaking out of both ends of the axle, causing fluid to get onto the rear brake discs causing a safety hazard. *tr
2006 nissan titan rear axel seals leak gear oil into rear brake system. *tr
2006 nissan titan. normal driving, the rear wheel seal on the right side is leaking fluid again at 122k miles. this will be the second time that it has to be replaced. *tr
I own a 2006 nissan titan which has had two rear axle seals leak. both were fixed under warranty by my local nissan dealer. my understanding is that this is a common problem with nissan titans and poses a safety issue since the leaks allow rear differential oil to leak on the rear brakes. *tr
I have a 2006 nissan titan pickup that has had the rear axle seals replaced two times and had it in for a third time and was told it was residual oil from the previous repair and nsent on my awy wewll it was leaking again and now has to go back for a fourth time in about 3000 miles. the truck has only 28000 miles on it. this leak has the potential to get gear oil all over the rear disc brakes causing poor braking, also if the rear end siezed up from lack of oil it could cause you to go out of control.
The transmission cannot be downshifted. i was towing a large boat and limited to 10mph speed and was unable to downshift the engine. *tr
Rear axle seal failure. oil from the leak spilled onto brakes causing right rear brake failure. *tr
Yoke seal leaking in rear differential*cw
While performing a tire rotation, it was noticed that the passenger side rear axle seal was leaking. *tr
The engine accelerates on its own after lifting the accelerator for one to five seconds. this occurs regularly and has caused two vehicle to object accidents. this occurs in traffic, slow speeds, high speeds, forward, reverse, and is easily recreated. dealer tech could not find anything wrong that would cause this issue. *tr
I have a 2006 nissan titan and just before 60,000 miles the rear end failed. i was on the highway doing about 65mph. the rear started to make noise so i pulled off the road to take a look. when i looked under the truck there was differential fluid all over the rear of the truck and under. so i called a tow truck. when the tow truck arrived i pull my truck up to the flat bed, when the tow truck driver went to pull my nissan up on the flat bed the rear end was locked up, i had it in neutral at the time. i started my truck and put it in drive and there was a loud noise, i looked under the truck to notice my drive shaft had fallen off and was on the ground. this was very upsetting, i just kept thinking what if i had the music on or something and didn't hear the noise when i did. if this had happened at highway speeds i could have been killed. a locked up rear end or a drive shaft falling off at high speeds is a very serious safety issue. i have done some research on this matter and found that this is not an isolated incident. there are quite a bit of people having this same issue. i love my truck and have taken very good care of it, did all my required services. when this happened i still fell under the 60,000mile powertrain warranty, i had about 56k at the time, and they replaced the entire rear end assembly. i would assume that nissan is aware of this issue, due to the number of complaints that i have found, and should do something about it before someone is killed. *tr
Rear axle seal failed leaking oil on the brakes. *tr
Rear axle seals leaking onto brake pads. *tr
Axle seals failed at 51,000 then at 53,100 and 53,300...nissan is replacing the rear end (whatever parts that includes) front differential failure at 51, 000 the warrantied differential would not work with the truck on the ground but worked on the lift...what a pos....axle seals 7/31,9/4,9/9 waiting for rear end. *tr
The ipdm relay in my truck is messed up, it began with having a transmission issue that caused my truck to basically not be able to gain any speed on the highway. i took the truck to the dealership, they said it was the ipdm issue and they would try to fix it. other titan owners have had their trucks shut completely off while running down the highway because of the failure of the ipdm, nissan knows of the issue has no parts to fix the issue, and will not help us out. *tr
2006 rear axle seals major failure at 51,000 miles and again less than 2000 miles later. same seal. *tr
Rear axle seal failure, leaks oil onto rear brake rotor. causing poor braking. *tr
I noticed oil leaking from the transfer case. brought the truck to santa monica nissan for inspection. dealership verified the transfer case, left and right rear axle seals leaking. dealership is replacing parts to correct the failure. this is an ongoing failure for all year model nissan titans. *tr
2006 nissan titan rear axle seal leaked and need replacement after 60k mile. i know of 4 other titian owners that had the same problem. nissan should have a recall to fix this problem based on how widespread the axle seal leak is. *tr
There was not a crash, but there was a problem that could have led to one. the rear axle seals leak on almost all nissan titan pickup trucks. i've had mine replaced 3 times in 75,000 miles. when this happens, oil from the axle covers the rear brake rotors, affecting braking ability. *tr
Right rear axle seal on 2006 nissan titan. *tr
Rear axle seal failure. i noticed a driver-side rear seal leak yesterday (7/29/2009). rear seal is leaking differential fluid over rear brakes causing hazard of a brake failure. the vehicle is a 2006 nissan titan king cab xe 2x4 with approximately 25000 mi. vehicle was purchased new in 2/2007 from dealer. vehicle has never towed or been off-road. this is a safety concern due to a low mileage vehicle with no abuse having a mechanical failure that could affect a safety feature such as the brakes. *tr
Faulty rear axle seals on a 2006 nissan titan could cause rear end failure at speed or lack of braking ability of the rear brakes. *tr
Rear axle seal failure both sides. contaminated brakes causing failure of rear brakes. replacement of seals and brake components necessary for repair. accident avoided. *tr
Rear axle seal failed: 1. noted oil on rear wheel. 2. i am told that many failures have occurred. 3. agency replaced the part at no cost; vehicle was in shop 2 days. *tr
2006 nissan titan rear axle seals leaking. seems to be fairly common among titan owners. *tr
Rear axel seals leak oil onto the rear brake pads. *tr
Routine inspection of rear axle revealed axle seal leak on passenger side. left rear axle seal blew out and leaked differential fluid. differential fluid leaking on rear brake rotors which could cause brake failure, which was a major safety concern to me. at time of failure at 53675 miles no suspension modifications had been done to vehicle. also, the rear differential oil will slowly leak and cause the rear differential to lose fluid and fail. nissan replaced spacer axle (43070-7s200), bearing (40210-7s210), and seal (43252-7s200). as this seemed to be a very common problem with the nissan titan, nissan should address this issue and offer a permanent fix so weould not be faced with the safety issue in the future.
Right rear axle seal blew out and leaked differential fluid. differential fluid leaking on rear brake rotors which could cause brake failure, which was a major safety concern to me. at time of failure at 8000 miles no suspension modifications had been done to vehicle. also, the rear differential oil will slowly leak and cause the rear differential to lose fluid and fail. nissan replaced spacer axle (43070-7s200), bearing (40210-7s210), and seal (43252-7s200). as this seemed to be a very common problem with the nissan titan, nissan should address this issue and offer a permanent fix so would not be faced with the safety issue in the future. *tr
I have owned a 2006 nissan titan since march 17, 2006 and have had a severe rear axle leak two times in less than 32,000 miles. the first leak was due to a faulty left side axle seal and was replaced under warranty. the latest leak, which was communicating differential oil over the entire underbelly of the truck including the exhaust system and rear brake rotors was determined to be a faulty pinion seal which was repaired under warranty. i am afraid that this will be a recurring issue that may have potential for fire or unsafe vehicle operation due to oil reaching the brake rotors and the exhaust system. *tr
I have a 2006 nissan titan and been having problems with the rear drive axles leaking differential fluid. i had the first problem happen around november of last year. my right hand side of the axle was leaking so i replaced the seal, spacer, and bearing on that one side only. now, my left side axle started to leak around april. i started to notice when my rear brakes started smoking while driving down the highway. i've had my vehicle parked since then and in the process of replacing the seal on it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan titan. the contact noticed oil leaking from the rear axle. the failure has been occurring for a couple of days. there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. in addition, the contact heard a banging noise once. through online research, she found that several vehicles were experiencing the same noise. the vehicle will be repaired at the contact's expense. the failure and current mileages were 65,000. updated 5/18/09 *cn updated 05/19/09.*jb
Took truck in for maintenance. auto care provider notified me that the rear axle seal has been leaking. have not fixed as of yet but plan to within the next few weeks. *tr
2006 nissan titan right rear axle seal leaking bad.. 3 year old car, forty thousand miles. *tr
2006 nissan titan le rear end started making roaring noise, took it to dealer. turned rotors,(85% on them) continued to make noise. drove it for several weeks , it got louder. took it back to dealer, service advisor stated gears, and bearings defected, replaced rear end under warranty. *tr
I was driving down the freeway when i experienced a loud clunking noise from the rear end on my 2006 nissan titan. it has been determined to be total and complete failure of the rear differential assembly. *tr
Steering gear shifter is stuck on "d" drive and does not shift to lower gears. i bought the truck at the end of 2006 brand new. about two years later, the shifter did not work anymore. i was told that they would have to replace the whole shifter part which is very expensive to fix. thanks....updated 01/04/2016 *bf
My dana axle seals started leaking at 35,000 miles. it gets all over the brakes, can cause brake failure. nissan warranted the problem replaced entire rear axle. many people with this same truck have the same problem. it almost seems like 90%. *tr
Rear axles seals leak onto the brakes. *tr
At 69,000 driver rear axle seal is leaking. replace with new bearing and now at 81,000 passenger side is leaking. *tr
Rear axle fluid leaking all over including brake rotors. first notice a small leak and continued to be larger over time. *tr
I had an accident in my 2006 nissan titan in july 08. i was pulling into a parking spot when the engine roared the truck quickly moved forward and i was unable to stop the truck. the only thing that stopped the truck was a cement spindle fence. i destroyed 10 feet of fence and my insurance had to pay for the damages. i took the truck to nissan and they checked it, but they stated they were unable to duplicate the problem, they then performed the 30000 mile maintenance for approx $600. the nissan service person told me that i must have pushed the gas and the brake at the same time to cause the accident. i then took the truck to an open field and pushed the brake and the gas pedal at the same time and the tires just spun and the truck did not move. i tried the same thing in an empty parking lot, the tires spun and the truck did not move. i ended up getting rid of the truck because i was afraid if the truck sped forward on its own again and i could not stop it i might get hurt or killed. i believe that there is some type of defect that caused the engine to roar and cause the truck to speed forward. i filed a police/accident report with the local police. *tr
I have a 2006 nissan titan 4wd. last year, after a long trip, i took it to get an oil change, and the mechanic told me the rear axel was leaking. this was in july of 2008, and the vehicle had 48,813 miles on it. i got it fixed. then 11 months later, again after a long trip, the same thing happened. this was in june of 2009, and the vehicle had 63,914 miles on it. i went online to see if anyone else was having this problem, and apparently it is an ongoing problem that is happening to a large number of nissan titan owners. some are reporting that the oil is leaking onto the rear brakes, causing them to fail. i have not noticed this yet, but each time i caught my leak early. i have also read that the 2008 titan has a new rear axel design that has addressed this issue. obviously, nissan is aware of the problem, because they have already addressed the issue in the later models. this is a very dangerous problem, and nissan should recall the earlier models to rectify the situation. *tr
Rear axle seals leaking onto brakes. *tr
I continue to have a constant whining sound coming from the rear differential unit at 55 & 60 mph. the unit was replaced by the dealer at 29335 miles because it was whining at 55 mph. the new unit was quit when new but now is as loud as the previous one at 60mph. this sound is annoying & never goes away while driving these speeds. i am concerned it is a design flaw & will either fail when it is out of warranty or cause me to be stranded. i hear a lot about axle seal leaks & diff. units failing on the titans. the current mileage on the truck is approx. 35k. *tr
Rear axel seal leak on 2006 nissan titan. caught problem before brake failure. *tr
Had leak in right rear seal, with 28,000 miles on 2006 nissan titan; replaced at dealer. leaking rear seals is common with the titans, could be related to poor axle vent. *tr
Axle seal leakage resulting in differential oil getting on rear brake disk. *tr
