Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2005 Nissan Titan

The right side rear axle seal is leaking, a lift was put on it along with an exhaust and was informed when exhaust was installed. *tr

Rear axles seals leaking profusely, power train:axle assembly:axle shaft:seal. *tr

Right rear axel seal failed. grease noted on rear disc brake. *tr

Have had to replace rear axle seals twice already in my 2005 nissan titan. they leak so bad that i constantly have to add oil to my differentials. both front and back. *tr

Column shifter causes damage to wiring harness of the manual mode transmission button. when shifting vehicle into drive, column hits wiring harness, and over time causes wiring to the transmission manual mode button to break. once this breaks, there is no means to down shift vehicle, causing a hazard especially when traveling roads where there are elevation changes. was able to determine the cause of the manual mode button failure by researching nissan titan forums (club titan and titan talk). upon removing steering column shroud immediately noticed chaffing of the wiring harness, and the broken wire. contacted nissan, was given file number 6550464, nissan was not concerned with this issue due to the age (currently 4 years) of the vehicle. *tr

The right rear axle seal is leaking really bad to where its going down the back of the brake rotor and dripping on the rim. it has cause my brake ,slip light to come one. from what i have been reading online this is happening to a lot of titan owners. i m afraid that it will get onto my brakes and cause them not to work. i have 76k miles on my truck and had to pay to have it fixed. *tr

2005 nissan titan rear axle seals leaking moderately 76000 miles when first noticed. have looked around internet and appears to be a recurring problem rear end lube leaks onto rear brakes causing a reduced effectiveness of brakes. *tr

2005 nissan titan, suffering from rear axle seal leaks. limiting the effects of rear braking. appears to be common for this product though manufacturer continues to keep its head buried in the sand, ignoring the problem. *tr

I was at a gas station filling my truck. i placed it into reverse and the rear differential broke causing me to only be able to drive my truck at 20 mph at 5000 rpm. i called greg at prg products and he informed me that the 2004 and 2005 nissan titans had a defective rear differential. based on the number of titans with faulty rear differentials there should be a recall on this item. *tr

Axle seals are leaking causing grease to cover the rear brake assembly resulting in a safety concern due to reduced brake power. brakes are warping again! manufacturer has issued a tsb but a recall should be directed. *tr

2005 nissan titan rear end seals leaking at 45k. oil getting on brakes and causes a safety issue. *tr

Rear differential axle seal failure, causing differential fluid to leak onto rear disc brakes making braking difficult and dangerous. repair will cost ~$500.00. common failure for this vehicle, manufacturer has publicly acknowledged there is an issue but will not cover the cost for repair. vehicle recently out of warranty with 62,600 miles on odometer. *tr

I observed a leaking rear seal on the driver's side of my trucks rear axle. the vehicle is currently at the dealer getting a new differential. the service technician stated it was differential fluid. the differential gets too hot and the pressure of the heated liquid forces the seal at the end of the axle to fail. the service technician stated that a new differential had been designed to fix this problem and would be installed on my truck when the new parts arrived. this slick fluid could have impacted braking on this truck due to the rear disc brake rotors being exposed. i caught the leak early and no fluid had contacted the rotors. *tr

Rear axle seal leaking on my 2005 nissan titan with 70,000 miles. this is absurd this trucks rear axle shouldn't be leaking already. i don't even pull or haul anything heavy in this truck. its only driving in town not off road. i was given a quote of $750 to fix the problem and the sels are only $25. then an extra charge of $100 to replace the differential fluid. fluid costs $7. this is an outrage and alot of people with titans are having the same problem. the bad thing is if the leaking fluid get on the brake rotors and pads your brakes could fail causing injuries to myself , my family and other people if they were to go out. *tr

Rear axle seals leaking on a 2005 nissan titan. *tr

Bought used 2005 titan from car lot with 58k miles. drove less than 2k miles and both seal are leaking and it is going to cost a fortune to repair. this should not happen at this mileage. *tr

Rear axle seal leak. *tr

Left rear axle seal leaks differential fluid on brake surface. possible safety issue and a common problem with nissan titans. no modifications done to vehicle and service history unknown as it is a used purchase from dealership with 71,000 miles. *tr

Rear axle seals on a 2005 nissan titan 4 x 4 leaking onto the rear brakes. *tr

Axle seals leaking premature. *tr

At 39,000 miles rear end seal and bearing were replaced for the second time. the first time was 11/06 at 18,000 miles. the parts were replaced under warranty. the warranty expires @ 60,000 miles. at that time i will be responsible for the $350 repair. *tr

I had both rear wheel axle seals that started to leak replaced on my nissan titan. (both replaced by the nissan dealer)the right rear at 40,527 and the left rear at 55,638. now again the right rear is leaking again at 79,000. i talked to the dealer about this problem and was told they don't see a lot of problems with these wheel seals leaking. from what i read about other owners of nissan titans i disagree. i believe this is a serious problem that needs to be looked at. getting oil on the brakes is a accident waiting to happen. need help here. thanks. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. while the vehicle was parked, the contact found oil on the rim, brakes, and rear tires. he was informed by a mechanic that there was a leak on the differential from the seal. the current mileage is 55,000 and failure mileage was 54,700. updated 7/3/08 *cn updated 07/24/08. *jb

Rear axle seals have failed on my 2005 nissan titan. the first time at 41,000 miles (august 07). dealer replaced seals under warranty. they failed again in may 2008 at 56,000 miles. this time the leak soaked the parking break shoes with oil. i was warned by the dealer that the parking break may be ineffective while i waited for parts to be ordered. luckily the leak was caught before the rear disc brake pads were soaked. dealer replaced bearings, axle spacer, snap ring, breather, parking brake shoes, and a gasket under warranty. *tr

When vehicle was taken for routine service, mechanic found that both rear axle seals were/had been leaking and likely to fail if not corrected. mechanic advised very unusual for failure at such low mileage and age of vehicle. vehicle had recently been serviced by dealer at scheduled warranty check where seals were reported to have been inspected. *tr

Binging/grinding noise coming from rear end. axles feels like it is loose around corners. *tr

Nissan titan outer rear axle seals leaking @ 50k miles. axle grease all over rear brakes and wheel wells. this truck has seen a total of 2k miles towing a four wheeler and never pushed to the limit with payload. bringing in for service. *tr

Rear wheel axle seal is leaking fluid on rear disc brake affects braking. continues until seal is fixed, may be related to a vent issue. *tr

My '05 titan 4x4 xe has had two rear axle seal failures in the past 20k miles. the first one occurred at 47k miles and was covered under warranty, now at 67k miles the same seal has failed again and now i have to pay out of my own pocket. the fact that oil gets all over the breaks should be reason enough to recall this item and get a permanent fix put in place. *tr

Bearing went out in diferential. *tr

At 64,000 miles, the rear differential blew up on me. the warranty expired at 60,000. the bad thing about it is it is costing me $3,600 to get it fixed. nissan would not help me with this problem. i just pulled off the highway, if this failure happened to me on the highway, i probably would not be on this website right now. it felt like i was rear-ended by a mac truck! and i was only driving 15mph. this is a very serious problem. even if they take care of my problem, there many titans and armadas on the road. *tr

Front drive axel came out of differential while traveling at highway speed on slick road causing sudden loss of four wheel drive and loss of traction. very dangerous situation. this is the second time this has happened, once in 2008 and again in 2013. *tr

Complete failure of rear differential @ 34,000 miles. *tr

Rear end of truck gave out. *tr

Rear end went on my 2005 nissan titan costing almost $4000 to have replaced. i do not drive off road, only tow a 3500lbs boat 1/2 a mile twice a year. *tr

2005 nissan titan le, 86,800 miles current -rear axle seals leak - replaced at 62,000 miles (out of warranty) -rear drive shaft cracked - replaced at 62,000 miles (out of warranty) -front drive shaft bad - replaced at 75,000 miles (out of warranty) -rack and pinion bad 86,000 miles (needs replaced) nissan refused to cover any of these repairs, even though they were safety related and should not have occurred under 150,000 miles. this vehicle is not used off road - all highway and city driving. *tr

I took my vehicle in for a maintenance service when the dealership informed me of the troubled rear differential. *tr

Rear axle seal leak. *tr

At almost 60,000 miles truck rear started making intermittent clanking sound ,took to local mechanic and was informed that the rear end has failed metal particles found in oil. contacted nissan dealer and said to bad warranty is over i will have to pay to get replaced. *tr

I purchased this 2005 nissan titan new. during a recent oil change and service at 34,150 miles i noticed fluid leaking onto the both sides of the rear brake rotor assemblies. at first i thought it was brake fluid but upon closer examination i discovered it was gear lube from the rear axle. it was leaking past the seals and down the backing plates and dripping onto the wheel and some of that oil being slung onto the brake rotors themselves. i stopped driving the truck since i felt this is now a safety issue and called the dealer. they advised me to bring truck in for inspection which i did on 1/3/08 at 34,206 miles. they confirmed seals are leaking and ordered parts. i asked them to make a note on the service order that i have stopped driving truck unless needed. they then called and told me parts are in and truck was brought in for repair on 1/14/08 at 34,361 miles. the parts that were replaced under warranty are as follows; qty-2 p/n:43070-7s200 axle spacer, qty-2 p/n:40210-7s210 rear bearing, qty-2 p/n:43252-7s200 oil seal, qty-2 p/n:01541-0001u snap-ring and qty-1 999mp-df100p synthetic diff fluid. i am very happy that nissan repaired and covered this under warranty. but, i am very disappointed that this type of failure occured at such low mileage. *tr

Dvr rear axle seal leak (which saturated brake pads leading to possible severe problem, but was caught before any situation) at 28,xxx miles, rear axle seal leak pass. side (warranty optioned to replace whole rear end axle assembly at 36,200 miles, rear axle seal leak both sides including 3rd member seal at 60,xxx miles, rear end ring and pinion "grenaded" at 61,xxx miles (extended warranty still unsure on coverage due to lack of rear end maintenance records, i. e. - lube change) (required maintenance is every 30,000 miles, i have not put 30,000 miles on the vehicle before a major issue.)*cn

Knock noticed on take off. intermitent. on day of failer one huge back on take off from stop sign and every stop there after, was very close to dealer ship, limp it there to get checked out. rear end failer was the problem, complete rear end replacement by dealership under warantee. failer at 26000 mi. *cn

I have a nissan titan and the other day i was taking off my receiver hitch when i noticed that my rear axle seal was leaking bad, but it has not been leaking for long cause i checked it out the week before. i have to take it in and see what the nissan dealer says. *tr

At 16,000 first axle seal leak. then at 74000 miles second leak. first was fixed by nissan and second leak was told could not be fixed, complete rear differential had to be replaced oil getting on brakes and rears that could possibly break easily could be a safety concern. seems to be a common problem with some titan trucks. this is the first rear differential i had go in 48 years of driving and attribute this to a bad designed and cost cutting by nissan. *tr

2005 nissan titan rear axle oil seal leaking again. right side was replaced in october 2007 with approx 45,000 miles on vehicle. now less than a year and a half later with 65,000 miles on vehicle the same seal again needs replacing. *tr

2005 nissan titan xe 4x4 - started leaking very bad from right rear axle seals around 47k miles. *tr

Rear axle seal leaking passenger side, leaking all over rear disc brake. *tr

Rear wheel seal leak. just started and looking to repair. *tr

On my 2005 nissan titan, both of my rear axle seals failed with only 48,000 miles on the vehicle. the fluid leaks axle lubricant by the rear wheels, which gets onto the rear disk brakes, which makes the rear brakes ineffective, especially when pulling a trailer. nissan replaced the seals, however the popular belief of the cause of this is a 1-way valve vent that allows the pressure within the axle to escape, but doesn't let air back into the axle. this occurrence causes a vacuum inside the axle, which pulls on the axle seals and causes them to age prematurely. *tr
