We have classified the 190 complaints from 2005 Nissan Titan about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
After driving in snow for approx. 100 miles my front diff. broke. was told the drivetrain was way to weak to handle a 5.6 v8. *tr
While driving heard a clanking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, at times from a standing still position the vehicle as you try to go will slip and you will hear clanking noises from the rear and the vehicle will jerk. vehicle was taken to local mechanic and diagnosed as having a defective differential. *tr
2005 nissan titan, driving on gravel road in 4wd and i had gotten stuck in 1 inch of snow. i realized that my 4wd was not working any longer. i exited my truck and got to the top of the hill just in time to stop on coming traffic that could of struck my truck and caused serious injury to me and my passenger. i contacted the dealership where i had purchased it, and they are unable to locate a new or used front differential for the truck. the whole differential needs replaced and here i am still waiting for the part but they are unable to locate any. i have noticed on several threads and forums that i am not the only one with this problem. it has happened to hundreds if not thousands of people across the us. this problem needs to be resolved, by the manufacturer in my opinion. *tr
I was driving my truck home from work and rear started making noises within a mile from home.luckily it was around midnight and no one was on the road when it went out as i turned onto my road and into the driveway where there was no movement out of truck.i had to engage the 4x4 to get it out of the way in my driveway.i haven't had it repaired just yet due to the fact it is out of warranty.luckily i wasn't on the way somewhere with my wife and daughter in the truck and it went out because it could have been a bad result. the rear end failures are a major safety hazard. *tr
Have a nissan 4x4 titan. bought it new. for the second time the rear end locked up breaking the drive shaft. good thing this happened at minimal speed. this is extremely dangerous. nissan repaired the first time due to our extended warranty. they should be liable because they must know the repair they do will fail again. these vehicles with all their problems should not be on the road in my opinion. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. while driving 15 mph he noticed that the rear wheels suddenly locked causing the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the drive shaft and rear axle needed to be replaced. there were no prior warnings. the current mileage was 105,000. the failure mileage was 50,000.
2005 nissan titan, rear axle seals are leaking, could spray onto brakes and become a major safety issue. this is a major issue with thousands of nissan titans, if you do an internet search on google for nissan titan axle seal leak, you will find thousands of people with this problem. if these bad axle seals cause fluid to contact brake rotor, it could cause braking issues or accidents. nissan has a tsb# ntb10-032 that discusses this problem, but this needs to be a safety recall before someone is killed. *tr
Drivers side front axle falls out of differential constantly. this is on a 2005 nissan titan se 4x4. i know this is a very common problem, because everybody on any titan forum is complaining about it with titans from 2004 to 2006. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan titan 4wd with 57660 miles. while taking my vehicle to the dealership for service, i experienced a rear end failure. the roads were wet from rain. when i started off in a right turn from the stoplight, the rear end started to clunk and the truck was jerky. i let off the accelerator to see if the problem corrected itself, but upon re-accelerating the same thing occurred. i let off the accelerator once again and let the vehicle coast down the hill, still clunking and jerking. once the vehicle was in a straight position, the rear end jerked really hard, and then i continued about a 1/2 mile to the dealership with no further incident. while at the dealership, the truck was moved from the service bay to a parking space and the attendant noticed that the rear end was jerking and clunking in a turning position. he parked the vehicle and advised the service adviser. upon inspection by the dealer, it was determined that the spider gears were damaged and needed to be replaced. the dealer determined that the entire rear end housing should be replaced rather than trying to replace the internal mechanisms. the repair was covered under the factory warranty with 2340 miles left on the warranty. the factory warranties the new rear end housing for a period of 12 months or 12000 miles. this vehicle has been extremely well maintained, and has never been driven off-road. there was no prior indication that a problem existed until the very moment it stared to fail on this day. upon returning to the dealer to pick up the vehicle, the service adviser did agree that this was an ongoing problem with this truck and that this particular dealership had replaced multiple rear ends in this model truck in recent months. we are concerned that this same failure could occur again. this could result in a serious accident occurring should the failure occur at highway speeds. *tr
Driving. *tr
4" inches of new snow. before leaving work, i engaged 4x4 high. pulling out from a stop light, i noticed it didn't feel like the 4x4 was working. next morning, had a big puddle of diff fluid on ground. took it to the nissan dealership, and was told front diff was junk. this truck has been put in 4x4 high maybe 5 times in 80,000, always on icy roads. *tr
Driving home and differential started popping. popping was a lot worse when turning or giving accelerating. took to dealer and they are fixing under extended warranty with deductible. *tr
I was driving down my street at approximately 15 mph and as i went around a turn i heard a loud "pop" and then a thumping noise. the truck made the thumping noise every time that i went around a corner. the mechanic said that the rear differential spider gears blew out. this is a common problem on titans and should be corrected by nissan. *tr
Rear differential leak - both sides. *tr
Rear differential failed while driving at highway speeds. *tr
Front axle on drivers side locked up and made me run off of the path . the dealership is saying they will not fix it . *tr
2005 nissan titan rear differential failure. the truck broke down and left me stranded. i took it to the dealership and they said that my drive train warranty ran out 600 miles ago and they want to charge me $3,500.00 to repair it. the truck only has 60,600 miles on it and it has never been abused. *tr
3 years ago i bought a 2005 nissan titan with 350 miles on it, so a year later a problem with the rear differential came on, the warranty paid for it, now 2 years later, i am having the same problem with the rear problem, and some mechanics that i have talked to, said that i ve been lucky i haven't crushed because that kind a problem its too dangerous in a truck, it could cause a serious damage to my person or someone else. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan titan while driving down the road the rear end started popping and lost power. truck has 62000 miles on it . i don't tow anything with it. i took truck to the dealer, they stated this is a common problem, dealer wanted $3500 to replace the entire rear end ! if so many trucks made by nissan are having the same issue why have you not made them recall this item. the rear end in this truck is dangerous, if it hasn't already it will get someone hurt or killed . *tr
The spider gears went out on my nissan titan 4x4 and i discovered it is a well known failure in the early 04, 05 and early 06 titan 4x4's. nissan won't sell spider gears. you have to buy the entire rear end/axle assembly for about $3,000. they should be repairing all the early titans on recall. *cn
My 2005 nissan titan had a rear differential failure at approx. 73,000 miles. there was a loud banging/ratcheting sound and then the failure. nissan (or no one else, for that matter) will not sell replacement parts for this problem. you can only purchase the "entire unit", at a cost of $3500.00, which is totally ridiculous, since it is only a part of the entire unit that has failed. i'm afraid that if i had been at highway speed, that myself and/or others could have been seriously injured or even killed. *tr
2005 titan, 36,000 miles rear seal failure, leaking fluid on rear brakes. *tr
Right rear axle seal leaking onto brakes. *tr
Rear end failure in 05 titan at 62k. *tr

Rear differential failure at 68,000 miles with normal driving and occasional light towing (3500 lbs travel trailer). i detected a worsening whirring sound coming from the rear differential. dealer recommends complete replacement of rear axle assembly and further states the vehicle is unsafe to operate in it's present condition. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan and the rear axle seals are leaking so bad i probably ruined it and there is oil all over the brakes! *tr
Rear end failure in 2005 nissan titan. there were no events leading up to the failure. a popping sound started coming out of the rear end of my truck. upon looking for problem noticed rear seal on driver side had failed. took the truck to dealership and was informed i needed a new rear end which cost $3400 being it had 66,000 miles on it. waiting on nissan for an answer on a complaint i made. *tr
Pulling out of parking spot. loud noise heard along with clunking feeling in rear of vehicle. *tr

1. casual driving/limited towing 2. electronic slip diff failure 3. still at shop currently looking at $3,800 bill to fix. *tr
During visit for oil change and tire rotation, a service center pointed out that the driver's side real axle shaft seal was leaking. took it to the dealer and was informed that since the vehicle had 68,000 miles on it, the repair would not be covered by warranty. the back-side of the rotor was saturated with differential fluid. additionally, the emergency brake shoes were completely saturated with differential fluid, reducing the ability of the parking brake to hold the vehicle. took vehicle to service center for repair which included replacement of the axle shaft seal, axle shaft bearing, axle shaft bearing spacer, and parking brake shoe & lining. it should also be noted that the rear pinion seal failed at 16,700 miles and was replaced under warranty. *tr
Parking brake failed to work due to rear differential oil leaking onto brake components from leaking rear axle seals. rear axle seals were replaced; old seals are not available. *tr
The front and rear wheel seals and spacers are faulty and causing fluid to leak out onto the brakes and brake pads. which could cause fire, braking problems and if unfixed could cause the front/rear end to go out on the truck. *tr
Defective axle seals. *tr
Rear axle seals leaking on the rear brakes. *tr
Rear went out of 2005 nissan titan. was preceded by clunking, vibration. right rear axle seal was replaced by dealer prior and under warranty for leaking at approx. 48k miles. nissan will not replace the rear since it is over on the mileage by 12k miles even though it had to have work done to it while it was under warranty. nothing has been to it, it sits. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan titan, i do not tow anything with it and i do no off road driving. in 2009 with 65,000 miles my rear end started making a loud noise. i took it in to dealer to get looked at. dealer told me it would cost $2600.00 to put new one in. also there was nothing they could do warranty was up just 5,000miles ago. *tr
I just had a major rear differential failure on my 2005 nissan titan truck, which will cost me around $3500 to repair. i've noted on several websites that there are many owners who've had similar problems. there should be a recall on this model truck and all repairs should be paid by the manufacturer! *tr
Rear axel seal leaking on to the rear brakes and soaking the brake pad in oil. also the rear differential is leaking in several spots. *tr
Rear end started clunking on turns, and within 1 day worsened to the point it hardly drove. never bound up completely, but had it could have been deadly. there are numerous complaints about this same issue. i have it at the shop right now and was told the rear differential and axle need to be replaced. nissan has made changes to there rear diff to help the problem, but nothing to correct original bad parts. please help, someone will get hurt. *tr
While driving my 2005 nissan titan at approx. 45 miles an hour the rear differential locked up and i was fish tailing all over the road and was fortunate to have no hit someone or crashed the truck. 3rd member spit the driveline right out and now my mechanic is telling me nearly $4,000.00 to fix it. i only have 94,000 miles on it. nissan should do something about this before someone gets killed. *tr
1. there were no know events apparent before the failure. 2. rear axle seal has failed on my 2005 nissan titan le 4x4 at 57,000 miles. axle lube is everywhere on drivers side rim, tire and brake components. there is also noticeable blow by on the tailgate and i'm sure lube has been dissipated to vehicles that have been behind me on the highway. this will lead to a failure of brake effectiveness and vision issues with following vehicles. 3. i am in the process of getting the truck in the shop to fix the problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. the contact stated that the differential failed. there were no recalls and the manufacturer refused to assume liability for any repairs because the warranty recently expired. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were less than 66,000.
Leaking axle seals in rear of 2005 nissan titan, repaired and then recurring to need full replacement of rear end. *tr
I was pulling out of my driveway and began hearing a popping noise around the rear end. the drive shaft started spinning in the rear end gears and lost all propulsion, leaving me stranded in the road. *tr
Multiple failures of right rear axle seal. failures at mileages of 42186/86082/106492/131033. same parts replaced 43252-7s200 rear axle seal, 43070-7s200 rear spacer, 40210-7s210 axle bearing. axle fluid drains directly on to brake causing loss of function on right rear wheel. also has caused possible premature shock absorber wear.
Took 2005 nissan titan pickup with 36,600 miles to dealer for rear axle seal leak. this is a huge problem with nissan!! this happens regularly. dealer replaced ,bearing ,spacer, snap ring, seal under power train warranty. 5 years or 60,000 mi. this is a huge problem !! i think they should offer a long extended warranty for free to titan owners!! *tr
