2004 nissan titan truck - rear axle seals are leaking so badly oil is getting on the rear brake rotors causing them to be in-operative. this is a very serious problem experienced by many titan owners as shown with a simple internet search. *tr

I too have2004 titan whit brake problem, warnin light comes on pedel gose to floor.replace brake disk and inspeted all brake parts problem keep comeing back after severl days . nissan need to do a recall before someone is killed. *tt

While driving on the road, i pressed the brake pedal to avoid hitting the rear end of another car while it was stopped to make a turn. without warning, the pedal went to the floor and the abs unit came on as well as the "brake" warning light. i had to pull off the road to avoid hitting the car in front of me. the pedal action continued until i could get off the road safely. when stopped i checked the brake fluid and it was at the max line on the reservoir. as a mechanic, i later checked the vehicle for codes stored. it was found to have code "c1179" indicating a possible delta stroke sensor/signal fault. this has happened twice with this truck. luckily, the first time, no one was in front of me. i really am concerned that this type of fault could seriously injure any occupant(s) in either vehicle or possibly a pedestrian. it may prove to be fatal in any case. one possible fix could be to allow the abs unit to be turned off when code "c1179" occurs. thank you for your time. *tr

Went to stop and had no brakes, brake went all the way to the floor and still did not stop. avs, brake and slip lights came on dash and as of today 06/10/2014 after new brake booster and multiple cylinder replacements and testing at nissan dealerships the same lights are on. brakes get "spongie" from time to time and we have no traction traction control will not work. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, he depressed the brake pedal which was hesitant to respond. the contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. also, the emergency brake engaged on its own intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an axle failure. the contact mentioned that there was a manufacture recall for a brake failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

I was driving the vehicle, attempted to stop and my brake pedal went to the floor, and i had no primary brake function. i went thru an intersection unable to stop and could have seriously injured my family or someone else. the vehicle does this multiple times, if i shut the engine off, restart the vehicle i have brakes, drive the vehicle and then no brakes. i did some research on line, and it's the brake booster. nissan knows of the issue, there are literally thousands of exact complaints on line about this same issue. i've contacted nissan, and i get nothing from them or any assistance. please, please, do some research on line about this and make nissan fix their defective vehicles. i have the vehicle parked in the garage because it's unsafe to drive to the dealer for the $1,200.00 repair and towing bill. as a consumer i need your help. *tr

At 55,000 miles the rear axle seals failed on my 2004 nissan titan. the seal failure caused a leak which saturated the rear brake apparatus and reduced its holding ability. i reported this to my local nissan dealer and it was repaired under warranty. i was told that an upgraded rear axle was installed to address the root cause of the premature seal failure. at 138,000 miles the rear axle seals have failed again despite regular fluid changes, and the rear brake apparatus is once again soiled with gear lube. i believe this constitutes a safety hazard and should be addressed as a recall. the dealer refuses to repair under warranty and states that there is no recall. based on my research, this is a very widespread failure on the nissan titan and there are thousands of other titan owners in the u.s. with the same problem. *js

I was driving down the highway at normal speed around 55-65 in houston texas. a car pulled in front of me and i had to put the brakes on quickly. when i applied the brakes the pedal mushed completely to the floor making a grinding noise and the vehicle barley slowed down. i made my way to the side of the road as the brakes made an loud grinding noise, and lost brakes completely. when i finally stopped(with out getting hit my cars) i depressed the brake and there was no response. i had to turn the truck off and as i sat there i heard a noise under the dash, like something reset itself. i start the truck up and moved slowly forward to see if i had brakes and suddenly they were working again. this truck has done this a million times and it is just by luck that i have no been involved in an accident when the brakes go out. the dealership says there is no recall and nothing he can do without a thousand dollars and then he isn't sure it will fix the problem. i am stuck with this truck and it continues to loose the brakes. the passenger airbag light has been on since 2011. *tr

I'm glad to hear that nhtsa is finally doing something about nissan titan brake problems. i own a 2004 nissan titan with brake problems. i have experienced no brakes at all when the traffic suddenly stops in front of you. i have complained about these brakes to the nhtsa, nissan, etc, to no avail. the problem is very intermittent and you cannot simply take it to the dealer and show them the problem. it has something to do with the electrical system. when the brakes fail to work, you pull off the side of the road and turn the truck 's ignition off and back on again. the brakes are then re-set and working fine. my son discovered this temporary fix solution. it is a serious, real problem for nissan titan and armada owner's. it happens to our titan two or three times a year. many owner's complain of the same trouble online. i'd love to hear that nissan takes responsibility for all these vehicles and solves this problem for their loyal owners. *tr

I have same problem as everyone else with cracked exhaust manifolds starting around 65000 miles. expensive to replace so i have no choice but to listen to a horrible exhaust leaks. next is the rear axle seals first around 65000.replaced 2x. after talking to nissan tech who is a friend apparently its a very common problem. the axle tubes tend to warp causing a leak all over tires n brakes and eventual failure of gears inrear pumpkin if not caught. just waiting for it to happen again. brakes have always been a problem. every 7000 brakes n rotors r shot and need replacing. pedal always has a mushy feel when u occasionally need to slam on the brake. goes all the way to the floor even when brakes r good. *tr

Brake warning light on dash illuminated. when brake pressure applied, pedal went to the floor, brakes made a loud grinding sound and braking efficiency was greatly diminished. had to drive onto right shoulder of roadway to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. this problem happens about 3 times per year on this 61,000 mile vehicle. took to nissan under warranty and was told they couldn't reproduce problem and received no further assistance. this got me out of warranty. when problem occurred outside of the warranty again, dealer and nissan consumer affairs stated the vehicle was out of warranty, and would not take care of same. *tr

Randomly, several time a week..and then not for months..and then the symptom reappears. while driving the truck, the brake light will illuminate. if i depress the brake pedal, while the brake light is lit, the pedal moves to the floor easily, the brakes shudder and the feel of the power brake system is gone. the stopping power is dramitically compromised. the fix seems to be to pull to the side of the road. turn off the engine and restart the engine. the brake light goes off and may remain off for days, the brake feel and function are fine. then randomly, the problem will reappear. i can't find a code for it. a lawsuit was filed and settled in california for this issue..see: the nissan brake / delta stroke sensor class-action lawsuit was filed in the u.s. district court for the northern district of california - banks et al v. nissan north america, inc. et al. believe the manufacturer should recall and repair. scary when this occurs on a highway and the 5600 pound truck is traveling 60 mph or more. sincerely. *js

The brake on my 04 nissan titan would quit working intermittently. the pedal went all the way to the floor and it pulsated and seemed to have no brake. all the service lights went on. i have no control of the brake at all. very scary feeling. i had to pull over the side of the road and shut down the engine and restarted and the problem went away. it happened intermittently. i bought the truck new in 04 and still have it now 2013. it happens about 5-7 times every year. nissan needs to own up to it and repair the problem. there are a lot of discussions about the delta stroke sensor. they need to fix this before someone got killed and then they will have a big lawsuit in their hands. *tr
