We have classified the 4 complaints from 2013 Nissan Pathfinder about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
The visor broke and the interior door handle stopped working
While driving on highway, front hood latch that holds hood down became unlatched, causing hood to fly back hitting and shattering windshield, damaging the right and left fenders and denting the roof of my vehicle.*dt *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving at unknown speeds, the sun visor detached from the unit. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to mossy nissan (8118 clairemont mesa blvd, san diego, ca 92111,(858) 565-4411) where it was diagnosed that the springs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 75,000. the vin was unknown.
While driving down the highway the sunroof exploded send chunks of glass flying. the explosion was so loud, it caused me to swerve which could have caused an accident if another car had been in the other lane. the sunroof was closed and had not been opened in weeks.
Driving down the street around 35-40 mph, hood flies open and hits windshield out of no where.
Driver door latch has broken preventing opening the door from the inside. the door may only be opened from the outside. the vehicle was parked in a driveway and exiting was prevented until someone else opened the door from the outside.
Plastic retaining clip inside both driver and passenger sunvisor broken causing visors to fall in field of view causing an obstruction of view of oncoming traffic.passenger side door handle broken inside of door not allowing passenger to exit from vehicle.
The the arms that open the rear liftgate on my pathfinder rusted from the inside out. one day when closing the door it slammed shut suddenly and wouldn't open anymore without someone manually lifting it and holding it open. we contacted the dealership about getting it fixed and we were told the pathfinders rear liftgate has been changed completely and in order to fix ours we need to replace both shocks as well as the operating system...... which comes in at 1400 dollars before labor....... obviously there is an issue there is they have completely changed how the door opens and closes! also, they issued a recall on the nissan rogue around the same time that we got our pathfinder for that same issue with the tailgate..... i'm sure the shocks from those rogues that were recalled must be incredibly similar to the ones in the nissan pathfinder.......
The plastic door handle on the driver's side is prone to breaking, which means one cannot quickly exit the vehicle in an emergency. mine broke and, for a significant amount of time i wasn't sure how i could get out of the vehicle. if the car is not running, or the battery is inoperative, one cannot roll down the window to get out that way. the console makes it very difficult, if not impossible, for the driver to exit through the passenger door. the assumption is that you can roll down the window, or that you are physically able to climb over the console and exit on the passenger side. this issue should be a recall and replace issue. the plastic door handle needs to be replaced with a handle that will always open the door. obviously, the car was stationary when this happened. the part number for the replacement handle is: 80671-3taod. if needed, i can provide a photograph of the broken plastic door handle and the repair invoice. i am requesting that nissan cover the charges for the repair, but my greater concern is that someone will be trapped in a burning car, or some emergency situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated while the vehicle was being operated at 50 mph, the hood independently opened. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Driving home with family about 11:30 pm on hyway the sunroof exploded and glass went everywhere very unhappy about the situation because my kids could of been hurt very badly lucky i had visor closed by took me 2 hours to cleanup all the glass then when trying to get fixed i am being told the glass for sunroof is almost $800 very unhappy about it why can't this glass be laminated
Defective interior drivers side door handle. the inside drivers side door handle on my 2013 nissan pathfinder broke when i tried to open the door and i am unable to open the door from the inside. the car was parked with the ignition turned off when the handle failed. i removed the door cover and inspected the handle assebly to find a small piece of plastic had broken off. the broken piece of plastic was designed to hold the ball-end of the door latch cable in place. from my own internet search investigations, it sounds like this is a common problem and it is common on driver side door handles given that is the handle used most frequently. the other door handles are manufactured the same way so it is likely that all will fail depending on frequency of use. in my opinion, this defect is related to poor design and cheap materials. if the handle assembly or the part of the assembly that holds the latch cable in place were made of metal or a stronger plastic, there would be no defect. therefore i believe this defect is the manufacturers responsibility and should be added to the list of recalls that effect this vehicle. the same door handle, part number 80671-3ta0a is the same part used in several other nissan vehicles. when i searched for a replacement part through a local nissan dealership's parts department, the part has been superseded by part number 80671-3ta0d so it seems like nissan may be aware of the defect. this defect is a huge safety concern, let alone a great inconvenience. in an emergency situation this failure could be the difference between life or death.
While opening the drivers door the inside handle would not work. had to open the window and open the door using the external handle.
Driver side visor has fallen 2-3 inches and passenger side has fallen 4-5 inches. this is a complete safety hazzard for visibility and one could be seriously injured should they have an accident as an airbag can not protect them from faulty interior parts of this vehicle. we noticed a slight issue just after purchase in 2017 and the issue has gotten increasingly worse.
The sun visors while driving do not support themselves and break easily most likely because of cheap plastic. while driving they may fold down and obstruct my view of the road which could cause a crash. this has happened multiple times at any given speed. i have had to tie my sun visors so they do not randomly come down. this is also a problem because there is now no protection from sun light and it is hard to see the road when sunlight is present.
I was given a new transmission when purchased because it had jerky gear changes. inside door handles are breaking, trapping passenger in car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the driver's side door handle was fractured. the contact had to roll down the driver side window to open the door from the outside. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a plastic ring inside the door fractured and needed to be replaced. the repairs were not completed. the contact also mentioned that there was a flipping noise under the vehicle. the dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v142000 (power train), but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 60,000.
The rear lift gate has stopped functioning for the second time since the purchase of the car on 12/21/2012. it is unacceptable to have to replace the motor again in 4 years and to be told by nissan the motor will not be covered unless the struts are also to be replaced due to their own faultiness. not only is this a costly and inconvenient repair, but the motors are on back order according to nissan parts. there is no estimate of a delivery date. the door won't latch if the motor isn't functioning. so, as a result, i am driving around with a rear lift gate that can't be manually closed due to a poor design by nissan. since the lift gate won't latch manually the lift gate has had to be tied down internally to prevent the lift gate from flying open while driving. the interior lights come on every time i accelerate since the door won't latch and this makes the hazard lights start flashing externally and internally in addition to warning lights coming on continuously in the message center. there are loud beeps the entire car ride which are incredibly annoying. cars driving behind me are not sure if i am in distress or having a medical emergency since the lights start flashing at will. i am concerned i will cause an accident! it has been one week and no resolution in sight. i have to pay to get a new motor to close my tailgate even if i wish to use the manual close method. this is unacceptable! *tr
The driver's side door latch broke and the door won't open from the inside. you have to roll down the window and open the driver's door from the outside. the door can only be opened from the outside. there is no recall for this from nissan. this is a hazard and potentially cause death if someone can't get out of their car in an accident or other emergency.
The sun visors are defective and break very easily. they won't stay up and you hear a loud clicking after a part breaks in the visor. you can google/youtube sun visor issues for pathfinder and there is a ton of reports on this. nissan is charging folks ~$190 per visor to repair this when it is a defect.
The driver's side interior door handle failed. upon regular use (i.e., no pulling, twisting, excessive force) it failed to open the driver's side door and made a crunching noise. the vehicle was parked. the only way to exit the driver door is to put the window down and pull the exterior handle. the interior handle moves, but does not engage the door. the driver cannot exit the vehicle if the power is off. there are many complaints about this very issue (down to the "crunching noise" detail) on various pathfinder owner forums online. this is clearly a massive manufacturer defect that needs to be recalled. in case of an accident or other emergency a driver will not be able to get out of the vehicle quickly enough and this poses a serious safety risk for the driver.
Interior driver's side door handle stopped working. i tried to open the door under normal use and the lever just moves freely without catching the latch. exterior handle still works, but interior handle no longer functions.
Concerning the 2nd row door on the driver's side of the vehicle: the interior handle is "sticking" open such that the door does not fully close, and at one point opened entirely while the vehicle was in motion. the interior handle must be manually pressed down and the door tested from the exterior of the vehicle to confirm that it is in fact closed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled. the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. the gear shifter failed to move out of park and the steering wheel seized. the contact waited five minutes and was able to resume driving. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brakes and battery failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the dealer stated that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. in addition, the rear door failed to open. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
The hood on my vehicle flew open while driving 40 mph down the road. nissan fixed the issue. the passenger airbag does not work when someone is sitting in passenger seat under 130 lbs. i got a recall notification. i have called nissan to have them fix this 3 times and they tell me they don't have the part. my husband weighs 128 lbs and the airbag does not detect him sitting in the passenger seat. if i were to get in a wreck the airbag will not deploy with my husband sitting in front passenger seat. i have told nissan this numerous times but they say they cannot get the part in. i think that is very dangerous.
Inside door handle broke all of a sudden (driver side)! need to roll down window to open door from the outside handle which is concerning in case emergency and cant roll down window, wont be able to open car to get out!
I have had the door handle on my pathfinder break twice making you unable to get out of your car in a emergency! this car was purchased new by me. also i have had many problems with the transmission slipping while in acceleration. now that it is out of warranty they seem to have no interest in fixing it.
Driver interior door handle broke at 15,000 miles and passenger interior handle broke at 17,000 miles. you cannot get out of the vehicle using the door handle. the power window has to be put down, then you have to unlock the door, then reach outside the car to use the exterior door handle to get out. this is a serious hazard if needing to exit the vehicle in an emergency.
The tailgate/hatchback tried to close on wife's head as she was placing stuff into the back of the vehicle. this has also happened to me. it occurs when the gate hasn't fully opened yet, but for some reason, it decides to close instead of open when someone is reaching into the back. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that when driving at an incline or at a stop before accessing a highway, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact also mentioned that the rubber and the roof racks deteriorated causing the rubber to partially detach. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
While opening the door to get out of the vehicle the internal mechanism of the door handle stripped and broke, causing me to have to exit the vehicle on the passenger side. this took a week for nissan to order the parts and get it fixed. this was a very dangerous situation for my family and i , as i could not exit the vehicle in case of an emergency. *tr
Left front interior door handle broke off. you cannot get out of the vehicle. the power window has to be put down, then you have to unlock the door, then reach outside the car to use the exterior door handle to get out. *tr
While traveling at hwy speeds (65 - 80mph) the hood vibrates and moves excessively in the air stream. it looks like it's about to pop off and crash into the windshield. my concern is fatigue caused from the movement will eventually cause the hood to fly up causing an accident or even blowing off. *tr
While traveling at hwy speeds (65 - 80mph) the hood of the pathfinder begins to move up and down as the wind catches it. it looks like it's about to pop off and crash into my windshield. the dealer orr nissan in corinth says that this is normal for the pathfinder and that there is nothing they can do about it. i find it hard to believe that this is what nissan intended when producing the new pathfinder. i have a 2004 nissan titan and it does not have this issue at all. i am afraid to travel on the hwy with this pathfinder as i have no clue if the hood will detach and crash into my windshield or into a car traveling behind me. this seems to be a very serious defect that nissan is deliberately ignoring. i have reported this issue to nissan consumer affairs and am waiting to hear back from them. *tr
Since purchasing the 2013 pathfinder, problems are relentless. liftgate sticking and rubbing. broken door handles, driver and passenger. bolt falling out of alternator while driving. airbags not working properly. now for the past few months a shudder/vibration which happens intermittently. usually at low speeds when turning or accelerating. brought to dealer in 2/14 and needed reprogramming. started happening again, brought to dealer was told they can't duplicate so there is nothing they can do. happening again now on 5/6 and there is no answer. afraid car will stall out in intersection causing a major accident. same issue happening to tons of people, yet no response from nissan. *tr
Vehicle hood starts vibrating at or above 50mph and even earlier in cross wind. *tr
Driving the vehicle approximately 20 - 25 mph, and heard the rear driver's side window slowly cracking, and then by the time we got home, likely due to the heavy wind, it was completely shattered. i've never had a window shatter for no reason whatsoever. in the past i've noticed the window a little slow to go up or down, but had no idea it would result in this. my daughter was sitting in the seat, but thankfully she moved immediately as the cracking began. *tr
While driving between 60 thru 75 mph the hood vibrates and moves excessively in the air stream . i informed the nissan dealer and nissan consumer affairs. they did adjust the hood and assured us it was safe but the problem is still there. since the adjustment i think the movement with the wind made it worse. my concern is fatigue caused from the movement will eventually cause the hood to fly up causing an accident or even blowing off. *tr
The hood of the vehicle will noticeably begin to move up and down rapidly at speeds over 60mph--if its windy the movement becomes even worse. i took it the dealership and was told nissan is aware of this issue and there is no fix for it. that the rapid movement does not represent a safety issue so the consumer will have to accept it. i was not told or warned about this issue prior to my purchasing the vehicle, but the dealership was aware of it. nissan corp. had already notified the service dept. of the dealerships that this was an issue that could not be corrected in both the 2013/2014 pathfinders. i hope the hood catch and mounts can hold up to the constant vibration and movement. it is also an unnecessary distraction and unnerving to the driver when it is driven on the highway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the driver and passenger sun visors fractured and drooped, making it difficult to see while driving. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was recommended that the visors be replaced. the visors were replaced, but the failure recurred after one year. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Hood shakes/vibrates at highway speeds. the higher the speed, the more it vibrates, and it is much worse if it is windy; it seems as the hood was not close properly -although it is- and is about to pop open. the dealer claimed that there is nothing wrong with the hood, and simply adjusted some knobs under it, but this made no difference. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the accelerator failed to respond to acceleration attempts. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle erroneously decelerated while the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic stated that the computer would need to be reset. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 1,000. the current mileage was 11,402. updated 11/26/13*cn according to the invoice, the consumer complained of the vehicle vibrating at different speeds. also, the roof was loose, due to the molding not holding the clip in place. updated 12/02/13
While driving to work on the florida turnpike, the hood kept vibrating. it look like the hood was lifting and would fly up. my brother looked at it but could not find what would cause the problem so he suggested i take it to the dealers. the dealer told me that it was just the way the hood worked and did nothing. the second time i reported the problem i threatened that if i got into an accident i would sue the company. this time they did take a look at the hood. they did something which resulted inless vibration, however at higher speeds and windy weather, i encounter the same problem . *tr
My nissan pathfinder is white in color. it is very noticeable that the front and back bumpers, spoiler over hatch back, and the two size mirrors are a different color than the rest of the suv . these areas appear to be a cream color instead of white. every person that i have pointed out this issue to agrees with me.i have taken it in twice to the dealership and complained. they took pictures and said that they would file it will nissan. i have called and haven't gotten any feedback. i am very disappointed and will never purchase another nissan. *tr
The hood of the 2013 nissan pathfinder shakes/vibrates when driving at high speeds. the vehicle was worked on at two different nissan dealerships and the problem was not corrected. the service departments attempted to adjust the bumpers under the hood, but this did not stop the shaking while driving at high speeds. the service manager and nissan corporate say they have spoken to their tech line which has no other recommendations for corrections, so as it stands i am stuck with a hood that shakes. i see this as a safety concern as i feel the hood should be secure especially when driven at 65-70 mph. i have never owned a vehicle that has a hood that shakes and i would like to be confident that the hood of this vehicle is securely placed and does not move when being driven. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving 45-50 mph, the hood shook. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was not determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. the vin was not provided. ma 10/25/15
We, like many other owners, are having problems with the cvt transmission in our 2013 nissan pathfinder 4x4. at low speed acceleration, transmission shakes violently and power is lost -- cannot speed up. also happens at high/highway speeds. it is an intermittent problem but a dangerous one, both when trying to speed up from rolling start or when passing/accelerating at highway speeds. i have contacted nissan, taken to a dealer where they say they will replace torque converter. i hope this will help but most other owners reporting similar issues say these are not fixes and problems recur. will report back. beyond the transmission issue, our hood also buffets significantly at highway speeds. it visibly shakes and when i asked the dealership to fix, they said they could not recreate and it wasn't dangerous. *tr
When driving at a higher speed, the hood of the car vibrates significantly. it feels like the hood may flip up at any time. double-checked to be sure the hood was locked and it was. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the passenger's side air bag would not activate when the front passenger's seat was occupied. when a 100 pound person occupied the seat, the air bag would not recognize the weight however, the air bag would recognize the weight of a 140 pound person. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for service under nhtsa campaign id number:13v069000(air bags), but the repair did not correct the problem. the contact scheduled an appointment for further inspection. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 4,866. update 4/7/14 va the consumer believes this vehicle is a lemon in accordance to the massachusetts consumer protection act (massachusetts general laws; c.90 sec. 7n1/2). since the purchase of the vehicle, it has been taken to the dealership for failure a total of 7 times. the vehicle has been out of service for repairs for a total of 45 business days. failures also include rear hatch scraped against the body and spoiler contacts the roof when opening/closing, vehicle shuddered around 16 miles per hour, loss of air from the left front tire, driver's window would not close, vehicle shuddered between 12 and 20 mph, and the climate control on driver's side not working properly. updated 04/9/2014 *js
Any items on the floor of the center/back seating section can shift when the brakes are applied. the items can travel under the drivers seat and wedge under the brake or gas pedal. there is nothing under the drivers seat to prevent items from reaching the drivers foot area. on one occasion a water bottle wedged under the gas pedal while entering a 70 mile per hour highway. the bottle had traveled under the seat when the car was going around the curved onramp. luckily, i was able to pull safely to the side of the road. this has happened more than once, and i try to keep the kids from putting stuff on the floor. *tr
