Problems with 2013 Nissan Pathfinder POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 20 124 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Increasing engine noise, heavy highway vibration (almost like unbalanced tires) and very choppy start-from-stop exceleration caused me to have the car looked at by a mechanic. diagnosed as a transmission problem. only option is to replace. i thought there was an earlier recall on this model for powertrain issues, but my car shows "0 unrepaired recall items"

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated while driving 50 mph, the vibrated abnormally. the vehicle safely exited the roadway and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to route 22 nissan, 56 us-22, hillside, nj 07205, (855) 586-9766, to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, case number: 38348755. the failure mileage was 119,000.

When accelerating you can feel it vibrate or hesitation . this is the second time i have had this issue with it. the cvt transmission has been replaced once at 15, 000 miles. now that it is not under warranty, nissan will not fix or replace, even though i have had this problem before.

My car is failing to change gear and jerks every time i try to accelerate.

Original transmission replaced in march 2018 with error code p17f0 due to transmission shuddering. recently started having same issues happen again, while driving home from work, noticed sudden acceleration delay when at stopped positions/low speed positions. vehicle noise has become very loud when idle or low speed. took it into nissan dealer, they were able to replicate error and identified same issue. since no error code, the warranty department stated cannot be fixed because there's no code. nissan has recommended driving around until error code pops up - 3000km/3mos left on extended warranty. if error code doesn't get stored, i'm told they can't fix. taking back in for re-diagnosis as transmission noise is unbearable

I am having transmission issues. i brought my car in they said i need to replace the hoses on vehicle. now that that has been done they are telling me i am still having a transmission leak. because of bad clamps. they have now told me they cannot replace just clamps and must replace radiator also. i have found that nissan has a recall power train automatic transmission cooling unit and lines on 2013 pathfinders. when i asked about the recall they said mine doesnt qualify.... even though same issue as other 2013 pathfinders with recall

The cvt transmission keeps shuddering and i was told it may cause the vehicle to suddenly shut down or loose power when driving nissan says there aware of the problem but no solution unless i want to replace the transmission

Sometimes stays in park and i have to try for minutes to move to th letter d . t his happens maybe twice a week for 3 months already.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact received a notice regarding an unknown manufacturer recall. the notice stated that there was a class action lawsuit that granted her a free repair for the vehicle's transmission and catalytic converter. the contact drove to carriage nissan (2400 browns bridge rd, gainesville, ga 30504, 678-944-8663) to have the vehicle serviced and was informed that there were no failures associated with the vehicle; therefore, the recall did not apply. while driving 50 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact was also informed that she no longer qualified for the manufacturer recall and would have to pay out of pocket for the repairs. the manufacturer was contacted and stated the same thing as the dealer. no further assistance was offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,410.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated, the air conditioning did not work, and the transmission failed. also, the vehicle shook while driving and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact turned the air conditioning off and placed the vehicle in neutral. when the contact restarted the engine, the vehicle was able to drive normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000. *tr consumer stated no. i had no idea about the defect until it was brought to my attention after asking a dealership what was going on and they advised me to check for recalls on the model and year for my vehicle. my concern is that i could be on the freeway and the transmission goes out with my grandchildren which i have adopted and someone not paying attention hits and kills us or/ and someone else. thanks for at least listening. i bought the vehicle to have enough room to abide with the law and now, i was taken advantage of. *jb

While the vehicle is in motion if randomly becomes unresponsive to the gas pedal being pressed to engage the engine and continue moving forward. the vehicle doesn't shut down, the engine is still running, however, it doesn't respond when the gas pedal is engaged to accelerate. this occurs while driving on city streets and highway. the safety concern is when the vehicle is moving with traffic and doesn't respond to the gas pedal the vehicle begins to slow down and may cause an accident. the most recent episode occurred this afternoon (7/1/2019) while driving to the servicing dealership for a scheduled oil change. my wife merged to the left lane (also the passing line) in order to get off the left side exit to the dealership. the vehicle became did not respond to the gas pedal and slowed down to 45 mph nearly causing an accident because traffic on the left lane was moving approximately 65-70 mph. my 2 young children were in the vehicle at the time as they are most of the time when the vehicle doesn't respond to the gas pedal being pressed. we've had the vehicle diagnosed by the local nissan dealership (crowley nissan) and they've found nothing wrong with the vehicle. we were told that's how the cvt transmission is supposed to work ( it's not supposed to potentially kill you and your family). i've done some research on the web for similar issues and there are many nissan pathfinder experiencing the same concern. i also contacted nissan of north america to express the concern and they had no resolution, the representative also said they can not take website input, or blogs of customer expressing concerns with their vehicle. the only suggestion is the take it to the dealership and have them diagnose the problem, but the dealership tells us they need a trouble code from the system that's failing. when this occurs no trouble code comes up, so, we're going around in circles.

Brake lights found to be staying on while car was parked in the garage, this causes the engine to reduce power potentially causing an accident if it reduces power while driving, or by following vehicle thinking that you are braking when you are trying to accelerate.

Vehicle when stationary and in park intermittently will not shift into any other gear such as drive or reverse even while depressing the brake pedal. this causes the motorist to become immobile. one safety concern is a scenario when a motorist placed the vehicle in park while waiting at an open draw bridge, train crossing or other situation that the motorist placed the vehicle in park thereby making the vehicle immobile in the flow of traffic. additionally a motorist can become stranded in a remote location with no communication services available. an internet search for this condition has uncovered numerous owners experiencing this very same condition on same or similar nissan vehicles. upon further research it appears that a component or components, such as relay switches or solenoid(s) may be the cause of the transmission gear safety interlock becoming stuck thereby preventing the motorist from shifting the vehicle into the desired gear.

Anywhere between 15 and 20 miles my car shudders. it's to the point pint it's not safe to drive the vehicle

Since 2014 we have replaced 5 transmissions and 4 of these have been in the last month . the first one was a recall . i am wondering how many times will they continue to work this issue before they fix it or take the vic as a loss due to this issue never being handled. this is our family car and i cannot consider selling it or trading it in if it keeps breaking. nissian has said they replaced this with a new transmission multiple times but how does the same new transmission keep breaking . i need answers .

My nissan has been getting stuck in park for the last week. after research online, i found out how to manually release the shift lock solenoid. i took it to my mechanic today & sure enough he said it's failed. i have to manually release it 3/4 of the day. sometimes i am lucky and it will unlock on the first try after starting my car.

My 2013 nissan pathfinder gear shift gets stuck in the park position. it happens when the car is stationary and need to turn off the car and restart the car multiple times to get the gear shift out of park.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the failure occurred intermittently and the brake lights remained illuminated. in addition, the gear shifter failed to shift out of park. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 135,892. *bf the consumer stated it's not a transmission issue but a faulty brake/stop lamp relay interrupting acceleration. *tr

Vehicle transmission is not functioning as it should causing the vehicle to stop accelerating while driving.

The shift interlock does not disengage when the brake pedal is depressed keeping the vehicle from being able to shift into gear. the vehicle is stationary and cannot engage any gears this has continued to happen daily since it began.

Engine light came on, took it to my repair shop to run a computer check. it came back with the cvt p17f1 transmission code. nothing has happened yet, the light came on yesterday, taken in today to get it checked out. my repair place said they saw where nissan had a recall on my type or pathfinder years 2013-2015 but when i looked up my truck with the vin, it says no recall on my vehicle. i'm trying to see why my vehicle doesn't have a recall on the transmission?

Around 90k miles i began to feel a slight vibration when accelerating. now that my extended certified pre owned warranty is out, it ran out at 100k and i currently have 105k miles on it, the vibration has become more noticable affecting acceleration . upon reviewing many complaints online i feel like i am having same issue. the cvt transmission. it used to accelerate fairly smooth but now vibrates, if you release the gas some and reapply the gas, it seems to help it smooth it out. smooths out over 60 miles and runs pretty smooth. so problem occurs during acceleration between 15 to 45 miles per hour

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the rear brake lights remained illuminated at all times. there were no warning indicators illuminated. in addition, when the vehicle was in park, the gear shifter independently shifted out of park. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v380000 (exterior lighting). the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

I bought a brand new 2013 nissan pathfinder in march of 2013. within 6 months i noticed there was jerking with the transmission. i took it back to preston nissan in maryland and was told they had received a bulletin and the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. they reprogrammed the transmission and it helped a little but a few months later it was doing the same thing. i took it back to preston nissan. there i was told that they could not duplicate the problem and that they would reprogram it again. it did not help. i could not afford to keep taking it back, because they charge me every time to keep telling me there was nothing wrong. my car began to not accelerate when i was making a turn or when i was accelerating in traffic. we took it back to preston and we were told that they had put a device in to monitor the transmission as well as reprogrammed it again. my car continued to judder and shake and fail to accelerate. there was a class action lawsuit filed and nissan extended the warranties to 84,000 miles. my car is now at 87,000 and a nissan dealership in michigan is now stating that it needs a new transmission and a cooling fan. nissan corporate office is now telling me that they will pay 90% of the fan and only 50% of the transmission. i bought the extended warranty when i purchased the car. the transmission is not the only thing wrong with this car. it has been one thing after the other. door lock motor, visor, hood release, trunk latch, brake lights remain on when car is off, airbag indicator...the list goes on and on.

65 mph, vehicle failed to accelerate but rpms went up to 7000 vehicle shuddered for 25 seconds. next day while makig a left turn at 10 mph thru an intersection from a stop light, same exact thing happened. got to side of road, car refused to go forward. works in reverse but not forward. towed to shop where new transmission was found to be the only fix. vehicle has only 112k miles.

While driving on a highway, i accelerated- my rpms went up to 7 yet my car didn't accelerate at all but the car shuddered for about 25 seconds. one day later, while making a left turn after sitting at a stop light the same thing happened. luckily i had just enough power to get through the intersection and to the side of the road. i put the car in park to catch my breath after that scary scene. after two minutes of the car still on i tried to drive but the car wouldn't move and it shuddered again. i restarted the car and had the same results. the car was towed to the nissan dealership where they found that a new transmission would be necessary.

We recently replaced the transmission under warranty and now the vehicle will not shift from park. the override from the brake pedal to the transmission does not function. don't know if this is a solenoid or mechanical issue. dealership says replace mechanism and see if this $1000 fix corrects situation

Jerking motion an slipping when accelerating from stop. also jerking will driving.

Since brand new transmission shudders on acceleration occasionally. nissan is aware and has been made aware of problem and issue but will offer nothing more than discount on next purchase. has been back to dealership many times over issue and transmission has been reprogrammed but problem continues. makes for dangerous situation when entering highway

on 08/16/2016 i purchased a motor vehicle from star nissan located at 5757 w. touhy ave., niles, il 60714 (2013 nissan pathfinder suv vin). on october of 2016 i was driving in the express way going 60mph and my vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating and came to a complete stop while i had other vehicle passing me by at 60+ mph. i had to pull to the side to avoid getting hit in the rear. the vehicle finally took off but not without jerking and rattling noises. i immediately came off the express way. i took the vehicle to star nissan and they admitted my car on 10/22/2016. i was contacted by nissan and was told that they replicated the problem and the cvt would need to be changed and everything should be fine. the changes were made and on 10/28/2016 i received the vehicle back. my vehicle has been back to the dealer on 11/12/2016, 11/16/2016, 04/22/2017, 07/12/2017 7/28/2017 with the same symptoms and the problem has never been rectified. on 07/01/2017 my vehicle was driven by a nissan service technician for 237 miles in order to replicate the problem again. they were successful but now stated that the problem was a relay light. they gave me the vehicle back on 07/06/2017. my vehicle was admitted again on 07/25/2017 with the same problems. the technician had to drive my vehicle 344 miles to replicate the symptoms once again. however my vehicle was admitted until 08/17/2017. the nissan consumer affairs office sent out an engineer who made recommendations. the recommendation was to remove brake light relay and replace brake switch. i was given the vehicle back and the problems has persist. on 11/13/2017 my car jerked and came to a stop in the middle of a busy intersection this has been a nightmare and i have almost been a part of an accident on several occasion due to this problem. i am now car-less because this vehicle is not safe to drive.

Seal on transmission leak and can not get out of park

Intermit - vehicle fails to accelerate after depressing gas pedal. after releasing the gas pedal - intermit operation still present. this issue occurred when the vehicle was in motion on local streets, parking lots and highways. current speed of vehicle does not appear to be factor, only when trying to accelerate.

My 2013 nissan pathfinder has experienced 8 incidents of no acceleration, sometimes at critical moments, like merging from one highway to another in heavy traffic. one incident involved a semi-truck nearly rear-ending me on a flyover ramp while my pathfinder was stuck at 40 mph. it was like a funeral procession stuck behind me until i was able to get on a shoulder of the highway, after the flyover ramp. all 8 incidents have happened after the car was serviced on 2/14/17 by the nissan dealership for recall pc500 (dealing with the transmission). we had no problems with our pathfinder before the warranty/recall work was done. the car tends to get stuck in lower speeds, between about 15-40 mph. it has done this twice from a dead stop at a red light. when it finally did accelerate from the red light, it shot off like a rocket and caused us to go over a median and off the road. it does it on local streets and also on highways. the severity of the situation seems greater when it happens on the highway, however, it could be deadly on local roads as well. i am scared to turn left without an arrow for fear of it not accelerating. i have to drive differently, allowing tons of space/time to pull out of parking lots, in case it doesn't accelerate. i have all of my service records and have done everything to service the car that it requires.

Gear shift assembly recall. the gear shift stick got stuck in parking, in order to get the car out of park i need to use the emergency park release button which creates a safety risk because when you use the emergency release button the break needs not be applied which may cause a crash, injury or death. in nissan service shop it was determined that the entire gear shift assembly needs to be replaced, cost - $850. switching gears safely is an essential vehicle function and the gears shift stick is not a wearable part for which malfunction i should pay.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving unknown speeds, the transmission shuddered and slipped. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (chapman nissan, 6723 essington ave, philadelphia, pa 19153, 215-492-1200) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repairs would be at his expense. the failure mileage was 40,000.

The car began jumping and jerking as it accelerated on both the interstate and city streets. i was certainly not in control. the tachometer kept accelerating and decelerating on its own. after i accelerated to above 45-50, it stopped jerking and became smooth again. upon stopping at a stop light or sign, the vehicle was jerky and had trouble engaging and shifting. it was extremely dangerous.

Vehicle does not respond when the gas pedal is depressed, resulting in no acceleration. this has been an ongoing problem and happens at random, and at varying speeds: including acceleration from a complete stop, acceleration at highway speeds, and acceleration at city speeds. when this happens, rpms do not rise while the gas pedal is depressed and the vehicle becomes totally unresponsive. this problem began occurring after the dealer replaced the cvt and torque convertor ' both deemed bad by the dealer. vehicle has been back to the dealer on several occasions to address this concern, but the dealership cannot replicate the problem, and there are no codes appearing during diagnostic testing. the problem is ongoing and there has been no resolution. nissan corporate has not formally acknowledged this to be a systemic problem, but is 'aware of some concerns'.

Nissan pathfinder 2013 revs engine and jerks vehicle while firmly pressing brake (at a stop light). at first, i thought it was just the wind, but it kept happening for weeks. then i noticed the rpms jump when it happened. furthermore, the vehicle would slowly roll forward if stopped on a hill, requiring pressing the brake pedal all of the way to the floor. just yesterday, it revved and jerked about a dozen times. the vehicle has the latest recalls done as of april/may when i took in in for service (rosen nissan) and they verified the brake system was ok. vehicle should not be revving and trying to turn tires while it is stopped.

Vehicle will not respond when accelerator is pressed occasionally. this poses great safety issues. vehicles shakes tremendously when accelerating up a hill under 30 mile per hour

Transmission shudder at lower speeds when accelerating into traffic. first transmission replaced by nissan at ~5400 miles. the second event: transmission shudder at low speeds, accelerating in city (atlanta) traffic. noticeable shudder on deceleration as well. the second transmission is going in 03/31/17 at ~84000 miles.

When driving the vehicle it stalls when pressing the gas to accelerate. when at a stop or turning when switching from braking to accelerating you have to press the gas several times to get the car to accelerate. nissan consumer affairs will not assist and the dealership cannot replicate. i dont know what to do

While driving the rpm and speed of the vehicle will not go past 1500 thus causing very slow acceleration. especially when trying to turn into any street where you need to accelerate faster. trying to de press and re press the gads pedal does nothing. our nissan dealership has said the transmission valve body assembly is to blame.

I was given a new transmission when purchased because it had jerky gear changes. inside door handles are breaking, trapping passenger in car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the driver's side door handle was fractured. the contact had to roll down the driver side window to open the door from the outside. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a plastic ring inside the door fractured and needed to be replaced. the repairs were not completed. the contact also mentioned that there was a flipping noise under the vehicle. the dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v142000 (power train), but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 60,000.

Cvt is failing. vehicle shudders and shakes at low speeds and at speeds above 60mph. nissan dealership knew immediately what the problem was.

I take my car to steven creek nissan dealer located in santa clara california to fix the brake switch recall ntb16-062 on 10/1/2016. i started have having problem with my gear shift lock issue on 10/18/2016. i cannot shift my gear unless i use a screw drive. i cannot move my gear from park position unless i use a screw driver. i took my car to the dealer on 10/29 and they found that brake lamp stop switch (which they inspected on 10/1) is out of spec and adjusted back into spec and release my car. for that adjustment they charge me $160 for it which i think is unfair because they are the one who touch it on 10/1. before they touch it i never have this problem. on 10/30/2016 the problem reappeared i still cannot shift the gear without a screw driver. car transmission is in shift lock. *tr

Takata recall-transmission completely failed 1500 miles after warranty expired-started jerking at low speeds and finally just wouldnt move after it was parked.

Nissan-usa has known about a cvt transmission issue with this vehichle. we purchased it used in february 2016. leckner had the vehicle in stock when the announcement was made and did nothing to repair the issue. they sold us the vehicle without disclosing the information. nissan now does not want to make any repairs, though the car id deemed dangerous as the engine makes sudden jerking and shuddering when accelerations. there have been at least two class action lawsuits where nissan has agreed to fix the issue or change a new engine. when calling and dealing with leckner and nissan they keep saying the issue is closed and won't do anything.

My pathfinder is preowned by a leasing company but i have noticed for the last year that the engine shudders during acceleration on the highway and/or increasing more often on roads when i'm going to accelerate. i let up on acceleration and then continue to get it to a different speed then push on the accelerator and typically it resolves itself but could be very unsafe, especially since it appears to be an ongoing issue with others as well. my interior passenger door handle also broke (other complaints on here regarding driver side). the door handle simply quit working and appears to have no resistance. very unsafe due to the fact that if power is lost from the vehicle the passenger is unable to exit the vehicle.

Have had continual transmission problems since purchase of this new vehicle. bought the vehicle new and transmission replaced once already. new transmission has same exact issues as old. car hesitates and stutters upon acceleration. limited recourse through nissan, only pay for parts
