We have classified the 140 complaints from 2008 Nissan Pathfinder about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tamara recall. vehicle in motion 60mph jumped from 2wd to 4wd automatically. vehicle then locked in 5th gear. mechanic stated radiator fluid mixed with transmission fluid, then both control modules expired. vehicle will not start or crank.
Transmission was slipping in first gear. has when into limp mode many times. have had the fluid change a couple times. once it was slipping in the middle of a busy intersection. had it remove and rebuilt. antifreeze was found in the transmission. how many reports before they recall these vehicles.
Radiator fluid and coolant are mixing. radiator and transmission are busted. car broke down while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. while driving at least 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated. the vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who confirmed that radiator fluid leaked internally into the transmission. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall and they could not assist because the warranty was expired. the failure mileage was 122,000.*dt *dl
I was driving my nissan pathfinder 2008 on the highway with my 3 children's when i noticed high vibration coming inside the car i was not sure what's going on i took the car to nissan dealer i was told my radiator broke and mixed coolant with my transmission cost to repair $5800.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 45 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who determined that radiator fluid leaked into the transmission fluid and damaged the transmission. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
Bought the truck used at 123,000 was running great till 6 months later at 138860 miles all of a sudden truck did not want to start. no crank nothing. had been serviced one month before and come to find out radiator fluid leaked into transmission. bad radiator by nissan and transmission needs to be replaced/rebuilt
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the transmission failed to function properly. the gears were slipping and not changing normally. an independent mechanic flushed the transmission, which provided a temporary remedy. a second independent mechanic diagnosed the transmission failure and installed a rebuilt transmission. the vehicle was repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: dp12004 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. the failure mileage was not available.
Experiencing jerking at or above 40 mph, changed transmission fluid, fluid was contaminated appeared pink and milky at draining, hard shifting.
Car begin having issues while shifting, made clunking sounds while driving, not shifting correctly both on highway and city driving. we took it to a repair shop where they discovered coolant from the radiator had leaked into the transmission and caused it to fail. repair shop quoted us for radiator replacement and transmission service but warned if the transmission was too contaminated it could need a whole replacement of that as well. upon searching online for this issue we found it is a known problem for nissan pathfinders of this age and with this radiator type. it can cause the transmission to seize up while driving and render the car unable to be controlled.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and lost power. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact looked under the hood and noticed oil in the radiator fluid. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that water was in the transmission. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (mossy nissan national city, 2700 national city blvd, national city, ca 91950, 619-474-7011) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 97,697.
I am having issues with the car slipping gears. i took it to a reputable transmission repair shop where i was informed there is a "crack" in the cooling part of my radiator and my radiator and transmission and both need replaced. also that the radiator fluid and the transmission fluid are mixed together.
Turned a corner, driving below speed limit on city street, all lights within the dashboard that should have been off (4wd, service engine soon, etc.) went on, and all readings that should have been on went off (odometer, and so on). stopped at red light; turned off vehicle hoping to reset before driving home and it would not turn on; lights, radio, a/c were still active so it was not the battery. only able to shift to neutral with vehicle off to roll to a parking space on the side of the road. no previous issues or warning prior as i perform regular maintenance as recommended by dealership - happened suddenly. had to have it towed to dealership the following day as it was already after midnight. this followed two attempts calling my warranty company and being disconnected; ultimately called family in the area to assist who helped me rolled the vehicle into a parking lot across the street. after tow and diagnosis, dealer found failure in the radiator (leaked coolant into transmission) and there for failure of tcm (transmission control module). dealer claims no recall prior to this incident yet there was a class action lawsuit for this exact recall and model in the national database when i researched further after the extended warranty adjuster denied my claim for coverage. this process alone took 7-9 business days; i have been without my vehicle for 3 weeks.
I bought the car from a used car dealership with 109,000 miles on it. not even a month after buying it, the intercooler line cracked causing the transmission fluid and coolant to mix. this completely destroyed my radiator, which i had to replace, along with flushing the entire cooling system. it also caused my transmission to fail. to repair my car will cost me about $5,000. i went to nissan about this and was told they could not help me because the car has over 100,000 miles on it. i was able to temporarily fix it, but now my transmission is completely junk and i can't afford to fix it or give it back to the bank. all of these issues occurred while i was driving the vehicle.
On monday may 7,2018 my car went into reverse as i was leaving my drive way but was very hesitant on moving. so i put my pathfinder back in drive and it started hoping back into the driveway. i tried to reverse again but the car would not move. i contacted the dealer and took the vehicle in. after being there all day they told me that the radiator had leaked into the transmission and both parts needed to be replaced. my vehicle had 139,627 miles on it so there was no warranty on it. i came home researched the problem and found out that there was a lawsuit against nissan for the issue back in 2013 but i cannot file to get any money from this lawsuit so i called the corporate number for nissan. when i spoke to the lady on the phone she informed me that there was nothing they could do to help with the cost of fixing both parts to my vehicle. she said because i wan't the original owner (mind you that i bought the car certified used from mossy nissan with 30,000 miles on it) that there was no record of me owning the vehicle. i sent her a copy of my title to show i was the owner of the vehicle but yet she said since i had gone over mileage and the time frame for any warranty that there was nothing that could be done. i ended up having to pay the full amount of $4697.18 for my pathfinder to be fixed. what makes me upset is i always have my vehicle serviced at nissan and yet no one in the last 8 years has told me to replace the radiator for this issue. when i asked the service representative about this he said they aren't allowed to mention this issue unless that vehicle has a code. absolutely ridiculous nissan is the worst! i honestly would have changed the radiator at my own cost if i would have known this was an issue. instead i ended up having to open up a credit card for their company to pay for the repairs that could have been completely avoided.
Coolant is in my sons transmission . we went to get it it fixed and we were told don't. to drain and flush it we will kill the transmission!! that nissan new that this was happening and they had a recall. we called them today but they said they won't fix it to bad. how sad. not right and i'm not happy
This particular year and make of vehicle has a known manufacturers defect that causes the transmission fluid to mix in with the radiator, which in turn ruins your vehicle and causes about $5,000+ in repairs. a class action lawsuit was settled regarding this, and all nissan did was extend their warranty. unfortunately, this defect doesn't always breakdown prior to the warranty ending, in my case, it happened shortly after the warranty was up. so now i'm stuck with a vehicle i purchased 2 years ago, that doesn't work, and i still owe money on it, all because of this known defect.
At about 94000 miles the radioator cracked causing the antifreeze to mix with transmission fluid. which is a know problem with these vechiles. so took to dealership and had to have transmission replaced and radiator as well. now at 128000 the pathfinder is doing the same thing again. the radiator is fill of the milky fluid that is the result of the two fluids mixing. so with in two years do to the same problem i have to have the transmission replaced but this time i have to pay the whole thing cause the pathfinder is over the 100000 mile marker. last time i had to pay the first 3000 dollars of the bill. how is this problem not being recalled on these pathfinders.
On 17 january 2018, i was driving westbound on i-20, i was taking my niece and nephews to school, there was an accident a few miles ahead, so traffic was crawling luckily. it started when with the vehicle wouldn't respond when i pushed on the gas pedal. it would take a while for the vehicle to gain speed. then i started smelling oil coming from the air vents, so i turned off the heater and tried to make my way to the shoulder of the highway but was unable to do so because of the heavy traffic. i had to turn the heater on again because it was cold outside and i had the kids in the car. as i was trying to make it to the side of the highway, all traffic stopped, and i smelled the oil again and saw smoke. i immediately turned off the car and popped the hood to check what was smoking or where it was coming from. as i was looking under the hood, i heard fluid leaking, so i started looking around, and when i looked at the passenger side of the car, there was a huge oil spill. later i found out it was transmission fluid and it was milky white attached are the pictures of the oil spill and when i pulled the transmission dipstick and saw it was milky white also. upon doing my research, i found out that i was not the only one to have this problem with this particular model and year of vehicle. there was a class action lawsuit, and all they did was extend the warranty, they have not issued a recall, people continue to have this issue. i contacted nissan consumer affairs, and they said they would not fix the issue repair costs are nearly $6000.00
Strawberry milkshake-like fluid leaking from the radiator infiltrated the transmission, causing catatrophic failure of the transmission. this problem was widely publicized in other states but not california. i was almost involved in an accident because of the car's failure to accelerate while entering onto the freeway. shame on nissan not to extend warnings nationwide.
Radiator coolent leaked in to transmission at 70000
The transmission started slipping and the radiator fluid is mixing with the transmission fluid. the transmission was replaced once, and now the transmission needs to be replaced again.
I am one of those unfortunate individuals who recently bought a 2008 nissan pathfinder le which was in great shape and maintained well with an almost impeccable carfax report. just after having the vehicle in the middle of driving the vehicle got stuck in 4th gear loosing all access to other gears and nearly causing me to have a collision with other vehicles. i took it to a mechanic and they told me it was the fluid from the radiator in the transmission and will cost several thousand dollars to fix.
My hose s from the radiator to the heater core exploded while i was driving in the city and trow some kind of gunk that the dealer says it is transmission fluid mixing with the antifreeze causing the hoses to become weak also my transmission start slipping and not working properly the dealer says it is a extended warranty on it but my car has 108000 miles and the extended warranty it is only until 100000 {with a 3000 dollars out of pocket for the owner of the vehicle } but they never send me a letter to fix that problem even do i have done more than 2 services on a nissan dealer that warranty or problem was never mentioned to me
While driving vehicle at about 40mph, the vehicle would shutter when changing gears and lose power. vehicle was taken to the dealer and we found out that coolant had leaked into the transmission through the radiator. nissan has extended the warranty for this issue, but with a whopping $3000 deductible. i was surprised to hear this is a known failure but nissan will not take full responsibility for their product.
Problemas con la transmision en sistema de enfriamiento se dao el tcm de.la transmision... conozco varias personas que han tenido la misma situacin... deseo se.investigue entiendo es un defecto de fbrica
We bought a 2008 nissan pathfinder, with 97,000 miles. zero issues at the time of purchase. at about 123,000 miles we noticed the transmission began to stuffer. upon further investigation we discovered that the transmission fluid and coolant fluid have mixed together. the transmission will need to be replaced. we are currently financing this vehicle, making monthly payments, and now among millions of other nissan consumers are in a horrible spot. nissan should have issued a recall for cracked radiators. i work 12 hour swing shifts, live in a small town, and have 4 children. nissan needs to make this issue right with consumers due to the shear volume of defective vehicles and the immense cost and unfortunate position it's putting hard working american in.
Cracked radiator leaking fluid into transmission. this is causing transmission failure. transmission slipped when trying to accelerate or at a low gear switch. this caused me alarm and i was unsure if my car could accelerate properly if i was in a critical situation. http://www.nissanproblems.com/trends/coolant-leaks-destroy-transmission/ keep the care or turn it in? buy nissan again, or another brand...
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it failed to start without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. in addition, the contact stated that the tire pressure monitor sensor (tpms) indicator illuminated. the tpms was replaced, but the sensor illuminated again a few weeks later. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
I just learned of an issue with the radiators failing on the model i have causing coolant to leak into the transmission and thus causing damage to the transmission. after further investigation i found that i would have to pay a $3000 co-pay due to the milege and age of my vehicle. discovering that nissan had know of the issue since 2007 and i purchased the vehicle in 2010 i am quite unhappy with level of customer service to take care of this issue properly. if feel that nissan has not done enough to remedy these issue for consumers. i was driving my vehicle to pickup my children when the incident occured without any warning. the vehicle began to overheat spilling coolant mixed with transmission fluid onto the street. i might as well buy and install the transmission and radiator myself with the co-pay that nissan wants to charge. very unhappy with what nissan is offering to fix this problem.
The internal radiator has small cracks that leak coolant and damage the transmission. it started developing issues when shifting into 2nd gear and then would not drive at all.
Ill just be added to the list im sure, but my transmission suffered a total failure due to the radiator issue that leaks into the transmission. apparently its a well known problem and nissan looked the other way. cost me $4000 to rebuild the transmission and replace the radiator. im at a loss for words the way nissan handled this. but nissan could have been in much more trouble. my wife got stuck with the truck on the parkway on the side with oncoming traffic whizzing past her at over 55 mph with my 10 year old son and 8 year old son in the truck. she called me in panic. nobody thinks that such a failure could pose such a danger like this!! whats it going to take for a recall? a terrible accident???? luckily she was able to get the truck moving slowly off the parkway and make it home. how there is no recall on this is beyond me.....never again buying another nissan!!
Low power when going uphill. difficulty and "hard clunking" when changing gears such as going from drive to / from reverse, decreased power when driving. when gears are shifting, transition is not smooth and car is sluggish with each shift. in addition clunking with deceleration. when stationary and shifting into reverse heavy clunking.
Vehicle shutters when trying to change gears. this occurs when driving at high and low speeds (it has an automatic transmission). if the vehicle is cold and i put it in drive, the transmission will not engage. when idling, the car blows cold air in the front, even if its set on the warmest temperature. the car consistently blows cold air in the back, whether its idling or being driven. after having my car looked at, the problem was found to be caused by a cracked radiator that leaked coolant into the transmission. not only causing damage to the transmission, but also to the heater hose which is beyond repair and needs replacement. after doing research, i have found that this has been a major issue for nissans with a year of 2005 to 2010, and although they did not do a recall, they offered an extended warranty up to $80,000 and 100,000 with a customer co-pay. but for most people that problem did not start occurring until after 100,000 miles... like myself. there was a class action lawsuit on this which settled in october of 2012. i bought my car from a nissan dealership in april of 2011. why was i not made aware of this at the time of purchase?!
Takata recall the car stared to vibrating while i was driving i can feel that the gear were not working properly i stopped the car call a tow truck took the car home call the mechanic and he explain to me that the problem is the coolant went into the transmission also tale me that it is a very common problem in this car. to fix it is extrimely expensive it is more that the value of the vehicle. i just fund out that almost everybody that has a nissan pathfinder o xterra had has the same problem. definitely is a factory problem and we should not pay for it the company should fix it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook uncontrollably and independently shifted without warning. in addition, the heating system became inoperable and caused an abnormal odor to emit inside the vehicle, which irritated the contact's eyes. the dealer diagnosed that the transmission fluid leaked into the radiator. as a result, the transmission and radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Radiator leaking causing tranny to fail, after tranny is replace the transmission control module starts failing in just less than 2 years causing the car to have tranny issues again nissan should be accountable for all this defects on this car, it posses a safe issue because transmission control module makes the car run if this fails while car running a huge accident could happen.
My raditor leaked and had to be replaced. they flushed the transmission and a week later i need a new transmission.
Takata recall ?? the 2008 nissan pathfinder radiator and transmission failure and breakdown due to coolant leak into the transmission. purchased pre-owned with nothing listed on car facts (carfax), or with any advisement to the issues with radiator coolant leaking into transmission. after a $1,017 bill from aamco for a diagnostic to find the issue, (in which they had to pull the tranny and inspect it was damaged due to fluid from radiator getting inside compromising transmission seals) i discovered, online, this ongoing well know problem..called nissan north america and discovered my vehicle was covered under the 100k mileage (94955 actual) and good through 8-2017, from a previous filed complaint or class action, not sure which. however, apparently i only qualify for a co/pay of $3,000 on a vehicle valued at tops, $7,500. needless to say i would have never purchased this vehicle, had i known this was an issue. i have been in touch with my bank, the dealership i purchased it from, and nissan north america and no one is willing to assist. i suppose i will contact my attorney at this point (lemon law, tort laws, something) because i cant' seem to find anyone understanding to me, the consumer, whom is not at fault on this deal for help. i am extremely unhappy that nissan has allowed this to happen. they should at least put a carfax warning or something to notify potential buyers or owners of this problem. i understand that parts get worn and go bad, however, this in not something that i have neglected to fix, maintain, check, or anything. this is a bad part/design flaw in the coolant system and should in all rights be fixed at 100% by nissan. beware.
Coolant fluid leaked from radiator cap into transmission causing the radiator and transmission to have to be replaced. vehicle has 122,000 miles and has never had any issues before this. the fluid in radiator and transmission is gunk.
In the middle of a heavy storm from the wake of an f3 tornado that swepted through, my wife and i were stuck in heavy wind and rain in an open area unable to start our 2008 pathfinder after pulling over. just prior, our transmission started shifting hard and slamming into gear. i got out in the wind and rain and after looking over the vehicle after it cooled down, thats when i noticed oil and water were mixed in the radiator.the pathfinder now sits because the vehicle will not start. it went from parked and running to dead on thie side of the road.
My transmission and radiator seeped into each other and apparently caused internal irreparable failure. my buyer's shield warranty is refusing to cover it. i purchased the 5 year/100000 mile power and train warranty as well. nissan's factory warranty will not cover it neither will my extended.
Failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. the 2008 nissan pathfinder had to be towed to the repair shop since it would not start. the pathfinder had 113k miles. it cost me $2841.27 to repair.
Wow, i am amazed that my story is so similar to the ones i'm reading here. i also purchased a 2008 pathfinder brand new. and i experienced the same issue with the radiator leaking into my transmission. and nissan has turned their back on me as well. after doing some digging, i found out that nissan knew about this issue in 2007. and yet when i bought my vehicle that had 13 miles on it from the dealership, never was this issue brought to my attention. i believe they issued extended warranties in 2010 and 2012. but never contacted us. if i had known it was a possibility of an issue, i would have had the correct repair done in advance to prevent this. but now i find myself with a destroyed transmission and nowhere to go. i can not currently pay out for this repair. i also am leading with nissan to fix this problem. but they keep telling me " nissan is not in a position to help me right now". the funny thing is that my family has bought 5 nissan vehicles in the last 17 years. some loyalty to a member of their family. i urge you people to do what i did. issue a formal complaint with the better business bureau and most important the attorney generals office. eventually we will have to be heard. i have also made it my mission to print out all the documents i have read regarding this issue and hand it to every person i i see driving a nissan. and if it's parked, i leave it under the wiper. i drive everyday and go from manhattan to montauk. so far i have spoken with or left information for over 200 nissan vehicles. and i'm not going to stop until there is enough complaints that we can get this thing fixed. frank o
2008 nissan pathfinder. transmission failed due to radiator failure which caused contamination of the cooling and transmission fluids. engine overheated due to contamination. entire cooling system had to be flushed several times after repairs. repairs were over $4000. nissan refused to address issue because of pending class action suit. i wish to be added to class action process to recoup expenses.
The suv began shuddering when shifting into gear, and hard shifting in low gears. brought to dealership, and they said coolant had contaminated the transmission case by leaking from the radiator. repair needed: replace radiator and transmission. suv has 131,000 miles, and was other wise in good condition. repair center said to replace both, cost would be $5800.00
As a single father of three teenagers, i needed two vehicles with enough room and safety features to handle high school and college needs. i bought two pathfinders, a 2007 se and 2008 le, one for myself and one for my son (which would be passed on, etc). my decision was based on my previous experience with nissan products and my loyalty to the brand. however, i now have both pathfinders needing major repairs to their automatic transmissions. the 2008 pathfinder's transmission failed in very heavy houston traffic while driving with my younger son, which caused other vehicles to slam on their brakes and almost created a large pile-up on a major highway. while we avoided being killed by oncoming vehicles, we were also in danger as we moved the car to the side of the highway. after towing the vehicle to a reputable transmission shop, he found the issue to be a known problem with the coolant fluid leaking into the automatic transmission, causing total failure. estimates are over $6,000 for rebuilding or replacing the transmission with parts and labor, including the required addition of a "cooler" instead of the radiator. i attempted to file this with my car insurance but was denied coverage. now, the 2007 pathfinder is having the same symptoms with slippage and inability to use overdrive, which almost cause another multi-car pile-up in houston traffic until i was able to downshift and move aside. it's only a matter of time before the 2007 pathfinder transmission also fails completely, and i still owe $12,000 to the credit union on both loans combined. i attempted a loan for repairs through the transmission shop, but was denied due to bad credit from a lay-off last year. nissan, please issue a recall for those of us without hope and unable to buy a new vehicle. this is your chance to save lives and boost your brand to a higher level, through integrity.
While driving my 2008 nissan pathfinder there was a hard shift when i put it in reverse, then noticed the check engine light was lit and steady, i then switched gears into drive which had a violent jerking motion & slight hesitation to accelerate. as i proceeded to drive on the county road the check engine light began flashing constantly & the vehicle had little power to accelerate & constantly hesitating causing me to immediately pull over. i believe the problem was created due to the entermix coolant in transmission as stated by the techician in the report i provided. this was a safety risk because at the time of incident i was driving across the road.
I was driving around 35 to 40mph when i felt a vibration under vehicle backed off gas pedal went away after that it would come back now and then around the same speed just like you where driving on a rumble strip. took to nissan for diagnosis told me vehicle shifted erratically and found anti freeze in transmission, they gave a quote of more than $7,000 to fix.when i asked what could cause this they said a bushing could have been worn to let coolant into tranny, now they get info on problems that occur i just got a phony answer. any way nissan dosen't give their customers heads up on notifications of problems and complaints all get lost or buried . nice support from nissan. no more business from me........ 103,345miles on pathfinder 2008 all happened on a flat smooth road driving straight
Engine coolant leaked into transmission destroying transmission and radiator requiring replacement of transmission and cooling system. vehicle odometer is at 115,000. estimated repair is $3000-4800+
