I started having issues with my 2005 nissan pathfinder at approximately 100,000 miles. i first noticed the problem with the heater. when i was parked the truck would not heat up only cold air with come out. next problem was when i would step on the gas pedal the truck would jerk alot and it would vibrate when i would speed up. it was very scary, it actually felt like it was going to cause me to get into an accident, that's how terrible it felt. i took it to the nissan dealer where i bought the truck for them to check it and they immediately knew that the problem was coming from the transmission. the coolant mixed into the radiator causing for that to go bad too. i called the nissan headquarters after finding out that this issue was experienced by so many other owners of 2005 nissan pathfinders. this job cost me over $4000. *tr
While driving down to the title department the day after i purchased my newest vehicle i've ever owned i was hit with the sad reality of an untrue man selling me his problem my transmission has antifreeze in the fluid it will drive fine until it heats up and the fluid gets to the transmission it is not safe this should be a recall they no it's a problem and also my seatbelt light for passenger seat even when someone sit in that seat the sensor does not work. *tr
I took my pathfinder into a local shop because i started hearing noise coming from the transmission at around 45 mph. i was informed antifreeze got into my transmission fluid due to a radiator failure. the shop replaced the radiator and flushed the tranny. over a $600 bill. the shop hoped it would fix the problem without rebuilding or replacing the transmission. no luck!! now i am looking at another $4000 plus on something that should never have happened. i was told by many shops including the local dealer that this is a known problem. if proactive by the manufacture could have been fixed with replacement of the radiator. instead, nissan decided to extend the warranty. never informing customers to have inspected for premature failure of the radiator or tranny. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 45 mph, the transmission seized and the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator fluid leaked into the transmission, which caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 158,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine sensor light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that fluid from the radiator had leaked into the transmission. the transmission and radiator would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 117,400.
The radiator leaked into the transmission causing a transmission failure. *tr
The vehicle lagged shifting and shifted abruptly. also the vehicle vibrated. when i took it to an auto shop (not a nissan shop) they indicated the radiator had a crack in it and fluid was leaking into the transmission i took it to a nissan shop and they said they are having problems with the 2005 pathfinder and they would fix the problem but it would cost me $3000 and there would be no warranty on the fix. seems unfair if, as they admitted at my local nissan shop, this was a manufacture defect. *tr
Check engine light came on, and after bringing vehicle to nissan dealership, they informed me that due to an internal radiator crack, that engine coolant had leaked into the transmission cooling coils and as a result transmission failure was imminent and that both the radiator and transmission would need to be replaced. then they indicate that they had extended the original vehicle warranty due to the volume of such failures, and that they would make the necessary repairs for a meager $3,000 "copay". i laughed because i thought he was merely making a joke, but then found out that the joke was on the nissan customers. apparently as a result of a class action lawsuit settlement, nissan had agreed to the warranty extension. what a slap in the face, to say that in lieu of recalling the defective radiator, and making a $500 repair, they decided to roll the dice with their reputation and their customer's wallet on a potential $3,500 to $4,000 repair. what a moron business decision. the second joke came, when i inquired about the warranty on the repair, and they informed me that it was only 12 months or 12,000 miles. what a vote of confidence in their $3,000 repair (copay ??). so for a few bucks more, i can have an independent shop do the repair, and get a better warranty. insult # 3 came when they offered up, that alternatively, they would discuss buyer assistance on a new nissan vehicle. they probably heard me laughing in japan. *tr
My radiator cracked internally and leaked into my transmission, which destroyed the parts and caused significant damage. *tr
Engine coolant leaked into transmission causing irreparable damage; requires both the radiator and transmission be replaced. this problem was noticed while driving. the car shudders and there is a heavy vibration while accelerating/shifting. this is a concern as the transmission failure may result in unsafe operation of this vehicle. *tr
My suv began stuttering when attempting to change gears. i looked on line and found the problem that so many have been having, coolant leaking into transmission contaminating it. nissan suggested an initial transmission flush, but recommends a $5,500 transmission replacement in addition to a $620 radiator. i cannot afford these repairs, and i am afraid to continue driving my car. *tr
While driving away from a traffic light the suv hesitates out of first gear and a loud pop as it drags into second gear. after taking the vehicle to a local dc area dealer i was informed that the transmission coolant line had cracked and coolant had leaked into the transmission destroying it. i was then informed that repairs would be $7600 and that this was not a recall item. in researching this it appears that others in the country have had this issue and nissan hadn't issued a recall but settled a class action suit assisting others with the repair costs after an initial $2500 to $3000 cost to the customer. this appears to have been an issue with this vehicle for some time and i'd like to know why no recall was ever issued for those not having problems already??? *tr
Had a problem with the radiator leaking a couple of years ago. my mechanic told me to put in some fluid that seals up the leak. worked well for a while. then this may the transmission started making noises and vibrations. took it to my mechanic and he tells me that the radiator has leaked into the transmission. about $1,000 to fix it. i say go ahead as what choice do i have. they replace the radiator and flush the transmission about 4 times. about a month later the transmission starts shifting into 4wd by itself and the car won't go anywhere while giving it gas. turn it off then on and that fixes it. i take it to nissan because my mechanic shop was closed. i explain my previous repairs and my problem. they tell me about the extended warranty. ask me if i have a factory or after market radiator installed. i don't know. so i wait until monday to talk to my original mechanic and they say it was an aftermarket. nissan says this is a problem and after talking to the dealership and nissan consumer affairs they tell me they can't honor the warranty. i ask them to maybe take a statement from my mechanic that he took out the original factory radiator and replaced it, but they say they need the original which was taken to the scrap yard. nissan had to replace the accelerator pedal and now i think i will have to replace the transmission. lesson learned that nissan does not make good cars. and won't back them up either. *tr
While driving uphill on the freeway, the transmission in our nissan began to slip through gears. i had to get towed off the freeway. i took the vehicle to our mechanic and learned the radiator trans cooler was leaking radiator fluid into the automatic transmission system causing cross contamination and failure. our mechanic flushed the trans system and replaced the radiator. the vehicle transmission operated okay for approx. 3 weeks then began to slip again. now it will not shift out of first gear. i started checking into this an learned nissan was facing a class action law suit in 2012 for radiator/trans oil cross contamination issues. there was a deadline on nissan's settlement in early 2013 where they extended the warranty on the radiator to 100k and would cover subsequent repairs to the trans. my mileage exceeds 100k and i knew noting about the lawsuit back in 2012 and 2013 and did not have a trans problem then. nissan will do nothing to help. is there anything i can do besides fork out all this money to have the trans rebuilt. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving approximate 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the camshaft sensor and the crank sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 126,115.
2005 pathfinder transmission failure due to coolant leaking into transmission. i had to pay a deductible for something that nissan was aware of for years. i also did not receive a recall letter stating a deductible would be required. my letter stated extended warranty if the above happened 96 months or 80, 000 miles. i have 72,000 miles. nissan would not pay in full because of the 96 months had expired. problem is that the time starts from the date when the dealer first purchased for dealership. this was not stated in the letter. problem with letters received is that none of them are dated and i did not receive the extended warranty letter until 2012. by the time the problem was identified and customers notified, i had less than an additional 8 years. if the first notice went out in 2007, customers should have 8 years from the notification date or 80,000 miles. nissan put me and my family at risk with car stalling in heavy traffic. this really should have been a recall and not a warranty extension. also, i never received the notification letter for the deductible. my letter doesn't mention a deductible. *tr
Radiator failed and leaked antifreeze into the transmission causing it to fail. *tr
Problem with the radiator and transmission fluid mixing. told that this happens often with these trucks. recommended to either have the radiator replaced and double flush the transmission for 1200.00, or opt to replace both radiator and transmission by nissan and pay a co-pay of 3000.00, plus\tax. if this is a problem with these trucks then nissan should fix their products. *js
I had transmission failure while driving. i lost all but 1st gear with no warning. i had it towed to a transmission shop whom stated that there was coolant in the transmission fluid. they advised me that the cooler in the radiator had broken and allowed coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. i have not got a bill yet but it will be upwards of $3500. i had gotten two letters from nissan that extended the warranty but both times i was to high of a mileage. seems that if they extend a warranty for a problem twice than they know they have a problem and should do a complete recall. i also had the fuel sending unit go out and i repaired that due to nissan wanting a high dollar amount to fix it. i have had it with nissan and them not doing anything to help the customers when they know there is a major problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the vehicle began to vibrate and would not accelerate over 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where the contact was informed that the radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000. updated 03/31/14*lj *tr
Radiator fluid has leaked into my transmission, due to a factory defective radiator. my transmission is damaged and will not shift into 5th gear. the transmission will have to be repaired or replaced along with the radiator. *tr
Just got the car last year.. so this year i was driving it and all of a sudden there was a loud knocking noise coming from the car.. took it in to nissan and they say its because of the trasmission and radiator. the fluid from the radiator have leaked into the trasmission. an estimated cost of $7000. just cant afford to get it fix right now! *tt
Driving 35 mph, approaching stop sign. service engine light went on. stopped at stop sign. no apparent issues until i pulled out onto hwy and the car would barely move. it was as if it was taking off in second or third gear (it is an automatic transmission). since the car would not gain speed, i pulled over as i could not gain speed to avoid the oncoming traffic in the lane. could not drive vehicle over 20 mph and revving at almost 3000 rpm, just barely moving. this happened again after having transmission rebuilt on 1/28/14 at a stop and car would barely move, but rpms were near 3000. took back to repair shop. this happened a third time after it had appeared to be fixed on 3/14/14. luckily, all times i have not been in serious traffic and was able to pull off the road without injury. have been told that there is now evidence of radiator leaking into the transmission. the recall notice for this does not extend to the mileage i have on this vehicle since it is now at 164,000, and the recall only covers 100,000 miles or 10 years. i have only had this car since 2009, but it does not qualify for the recall. dangerous vehicle. it appears to be running just fine, and then it starts dragging and cannot gain speed. have had three close calls. *tr
I was driving the car and when on the onramp of the freeway, the car lost power and shut down. nissan dealership said the radiator leaked fluid onto the transmission causing it to loose power. they said i need a new transmission and radiator but will not cover the warranty which was settle in us district court of new york. they want to charge me $5300 for the repairs. this is clearly a faulty design of the nissan pathfinder series and website searches verify that the problem exits for thousands of nissan pathfinders for the years of 2005-2010 in relations to a radiator crack and fluid leaking onto the transmission. *tr
I noticed that the temperature gauge was reading a little high so i took it to a friend and he said there was oil in the radiator when the cap was removed. he recommended that i take the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer said i had to pay a co-pay of $2500.00 to replace the radiator and the transmission because the warranty had expired. *tr
Lost all acceleration power; barely moved with full gas. diagnosed as radiator fluid leak into the transmission. *tr
Transmission just out of no where starts jerking and over heating took to the dealership and they told me that coolant/transmission fluid cross contamination due to internal radiator/transmission fluid cooler failure to fix the problem it will cost 4700.00 after doing some research have found that there is more nissan owners having this very issue please nissan you need to do a recall on these transmissions if not ill never buy a nissan ever again. i mean who has that kind of money to spend on a part that is internal and not able to be maintenanced how do we know its going bad? oh yea it just stops working i have a family of 5 and we travel the interstate alot im glad i wasn't on the interstate at this particular time. could have been very tragic if some one hit us because of a malfunction like this. *tr
I am an owner of a 2005 nissan pathfinder. on 12/05/13 the transmission and radiator on my car failed with no warning on a deserted road. i had my car towed to nissan where they told me that it would cost 5,100 dollars to repair. i later learned that there had previously been a lawsuit against nissan for transmission and radiator failure and the make and model of my car was included. after learning this information i called nissan back and they stated that they only covered it up to 100,000 miles and my car is at 136,000 miles so it would be my responsibility to fix it. after doing research on line there are so many other people that are having these exact same issues and nissan will do absolutely nothing about it and they are not willing to help with cost in any way. *tr
My family and i were driving home. we live in the mountains of wnc and as we were heading up and incline the transmission slipped and after much research i believe i am the owner of a nissan vehicle with the transmission/coolant issue involved in the class action lawsuit in ny. however, because my vehicle has 154,000 miles on it and the issue just occurred i am unable to join the lawsuit. i still want you to be aware that this issue has no deadline on it and nissan should be held accountable for every defective vehicle still on the road regardless of age and mileage. if the problem is specifically attributable to the defective radiator and nissan has not fixed it then nissan sold a defective vehicle, period. had this defect not been built into the vehicle i am sure it would be operational right now. i also own a 2001 chevy cavalier with over 200,000 miles and it is still running!!! shame on nissan!!!! *tr
Due to a design defect, i have radiator fluid leaking into and ruining my transmission. i learned that nissan has recognized the problem and has extended the warranty. however, because the vehicle has above 80,000 miles i have a co-pay of $2,500. i find this unfair. this problem is not due to miles driven or operator error. this is a design defect and to require customers to pay thousands to fix nissan's engineering problem is wrong. i feel i have been taken advantage of. nissan should cover the full cost of the repair regardless of mileage because the problem results from a design flaw. *tr
As i was driving on a motor way, the car just start shaking and stopped in the middle of the road without prior warning from the dashboard. a message "service soon" started display on the dashboard. this seems like a transmission failure. i couldn't move the car from that spot on the motor way. i had the car towed to the mechanic and he diagnose the car and couldn't find any fault on the car. i am scare to drive the car and the car is still at the auto mechanic shop not know what the problem. *tr
Failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid. the radiator had to be replaced, possible damage to transmission. *tr
Sudden jerking in the vehicle when traveling at highway speeds. the problem has been diagnosed as a failed transmission cooler which allows coolant to mix with the transmission fluid, causing internal damage to the components. nothing happened before, but the transmission started slipping 5th gear and no going into it, now 4 and third finally just stopped moving... repair cost is going to be 6500$ at the nissan dealership and they will not admit a known issue.... *tr
My car would not start one morning so i had to call a tow truck to take it to my mechanic, he called me to tell me that the radiator was allowing moisture or water to go into the electrical part of the transmission and the transmission has completely fried. i got a quote of $4000 to $6000 to fix or rebuild it. he then told me there are thousands of articles online about the problem and that since my car was at 109,000 miles there was nothing nissan would do about fixing it even though there was nothing i did to cause the problem!!! i still owe $8500, as i have only had the car for 2 years, and i sure can't go buy another car. i have 3 small children so now i have no car, can't afford another and nissan will do nothing to help. *tr
Transmission oil in radiator, cause car to over heat. most likely need new transmission and radiator. just over nissan 100,000 mile warranty and they won't cover the replacement. and if the would want me to pay 3,000 out of my pocket for a know defective part. i feel this needs to be recall and nissan expense and fix my car. *js
Engine light is on. nissan dealer shop recommends to replaced transmission and radiator. *tr
I was driving my truck on the expressway and i felt vibration when it shift from first to second gear as i increased the speed the vibration got worse and i felt something like it was trying to pick up speed but it could not and finally it caught the gear and was able to pick up speed but at the same time my check engine light came on. so i was able to drive it home and when i got there i called bill kay nissan to take it i for service. when i took it in they checked it out and i was informed my transmission valve body had become contaminated and it had to be replaced and it would cost me $2098 to replace it and if i didn't get it replaced it was possible for the transmission fluid and radiator fluid could mix and cause the transmission to go bad. moving forward to june 9th 2014, on approximately may 3rd i noticed i began to feel some vibration again and it felt the same way it felt in august of 2013 and on june 8th the check engine light came on once again so i took it back to bill kay nissan and was told the transmission and radiator fluid had mixed and i would have to have the transmission and radiator replaced and nissan had an extended warranty offer but it had a $2500 deductible and i would be responsible for that portion. i've already spent $2100 to have the valve box replaced because of some contamination and now i'm being told i have to spend more money on the same thing. this is not right. *tr
I was coming back from the store and was waiting at a red light when my light turn green i had trouble going i press the gas and it was like pulling then it king of jump and the service engine light came on. i had a shop check my car and sure thing it was the cooling/ transmission problem. i have not driven my car since i have no money to pay for the repair, yes i take it out to turn it on and move around my block, but is that fair its my family car we have not gone anywhere else because we do not fit in to our. smaller cars i did receive the claim form for this problem but i did not had the problem then the claim expired june 7th 2013, right before my problem. please help us. *tr
Driving in town roughly 25 miles, the truck slowed down, you hit the gas to excel and it stops eventually. the mechanic says the transmission coolant leaked, mixed and need to replace the transmission and trained and leaned the radiator. *tr
I was driving towards reno, nv and every time there is an uphill roadway the engine would rev up and the transmission shifts to another gear,i would feel a thumping sound and on every 3 to 6 miles of driving the vehicle would feel like it is running on an unpaved road. i took the vehicle to the dealership and that is when they informed me that my transmission fluid and engine coolant are mixing. not to mention that my fsr is no longer functioning properly. it turned out that the fsr (fuel sensor relay) is not on the recall list unless it is a 2006 and up. i don't mind the fsr, because i can work on this but the coolant and tranny fluid mixture should be a recall since a lot of people are experiencing this issue. *jb
I experienced transmission shifting problems between 50-60 mph. local service center diagnosed it as a defective radiator which allowed radiator fluid to get into the transmission fluid. after talking to other pathfinder owners and checking the internet apparently nissan was aware of their defect and tried to keep it hidden resulting in a class action lawsuit which was settled. unfortunately i am out $1,500 for repairs and there is no guarantee i won't be replacing my transmission soon! can you help? *tr
Transmission went out on vehicle while it was in motion causing vehicle to stall and difficulty picking up speed to merge into 65mph highway traffic almost resulting in a collision. when vehicle was towed to transmission shop, they informed me that these nissan pathfinders are known for having bad radiators causing water to enter transmissions making the transmission to suddenly go out. ..i then had it towed to a second shop and they confirmed radiator went bad. radiator was replaced but transmission is completely out due to the radiator. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine service when the contact was told that the radiator was leaking fluid into the transmission. the contact stated that the transmission had been hesitant. the dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 102,500.
they report in all instances that the dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. the complainants report no warning signs leading up to or just prior to the failures. *tr
