We have classified the 443 complaints from 2005 Nissan Pathfinder about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
2005 pathfinder wouldn't accelerate from 0-20mph and had shuttering feeling at 40-60mph. i fear the worst is happening. *tr
In march 2010 we took the vehicle to a dealership for a check engine light staying on and the fuel gauge malfunctioning. the problems discovered were a fuel sending unit failure and an evap air control valve failure. estimated repairs cost around $1300. we were told the fuel sending issue did not effect fuel delivery so we elected to wait and save up for the costly repair. on oct. 23, 2010 while driving the power steering and brakes stiffened and the vehicle died while crossing traffic leaving a stop sign. it started rough and we proceeded to a fuel station thinking the broken fuel gauge reported fuel in an empty tank. when i attempted to fuel the vehicle it only took about 4 gallons. the tank had plenty of fuel. this stalling and dieing then happened more times in traffic causing us to barely maneuver out of the lane to safety. each time it died it was rough to start, but started. we made a service appointment for nov. 12, 2010 to have this looked at and get the fuel sending unit repaired under the new warranty extension (thank you nissan!). on nov 11, 2010 after pulling out of a parking space the vehicle died again and this time would not start. as a result of our location (no local nissan dealership), we then had to have it towed (at our expense) 38 miles to the nearest dealer to look at it. we also had to cancel our original appointment for service at another dealership. they informed us that the new non-starting and stalling problem was a faulty ignition power distribution module (ipdm). this ipdm is a known recall issue in other 2004-06 nissans but pathfinder was not listed. our new estimate to replace the ipdm so it will start and run is approximately $700. the ipdm failure almost caused multiple accidents, stalling in traffic. i can't believe that nissan used a different ipdm in just the pathfinder and will own-up and recall their mistake.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that she was unable to shift the transmission into gear and the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that radiator fluid leaked into the transmissions and as a result, both components needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
Purchased 2005 nissan pathfinder. still owe on financing. i had an issue about 2 months ago where i had the radiator and transmission replaced as a result of faulty radiator. i spent well over 4500 to replace the transmission and radiator and would like to submit my claim for the class action lawsuit pending. i will never purchase a nissan again. *tr
I brought car to the dealer for service and asked for the tranny to flushed they said the radiator had a leak and there was coolant in the transmission. they offered to replace the radiator and flush the system for $1,000 but didn't think that would help. the dealer wanted to replace the transmission and radiator for 8-10k. i ended up taking a loss and trading in the car couldn't see putting that kind of money into a 5 year old car. after looking on the internet found hundreds of people having the same issue very disappointing nissan doesn't stand behind their product. *tr
Transmission failed. slipping.
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder that recently had the transmission go out on me. after taking the car to a nissan dealership and finally an independent transmission mechanic, it was diagnosed as radiator leaking fluid into the transmission. an online search led me hundreds of other complaints about the same issue with nissan pathfinders. i believe that nissan needs to be held accountable for fixing what is amounting to a defect in their cars. *tr
We were driving in our 2005 pathfinder when the car decided to decrease speed all by itself after we pulled out into an intersection with traffic headed our way. took the car to nissan dealership was told coolant leaking into transmission due to a defected seal in the radiator to fix the problem ecm, tcm, transmission and radiator need to be replaced about 7,000 to fix the problem nissan need to correct there mistakes not recall one component that got fried because coolant leaked on it that's not going to correct the problem. i cant believe we have to wait for someone to loose a love one before action is done we were second away from that, seriously. not a joke nissan needs to stand up for there mistake this is america right don't we have rights to a safe auto for our children after paying alot for a car that suppose to be safe just google 2005 pathfinder complaints and see how many are really out there 93% transmission problem on the 2005 same thing coolant leaking into the transmission make nissan recall these cars and fix the problem we work hard for our country and deserve quality what if this was your family nissan you have your family in one of these car think not!!! *tr
Spent $1067.22 on radiator and transmission repair on what later was recalled. now they state i am not eligible because of mileage but logic would dictate that the high mileage cars would exhibit the problem first as mine did. nissan admitted a problem with the recall and i experienced it and paid to have it repaired. why would it not be covered? i submitted directly to nissan with case number [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder and i have radiator and transmission failure! defective radiator causes engine coolant to leak into transmission which could fail at any time. driving at highway speed could and will cause dangerous situations. i must not be alone in this problem either, there are hundreds of complaints on this sight regarding this very issue! nissan needs to take responsibility for their design/manufacturing flaw. many consumers who are not aware of this are at danger and other people on the road as well. nissan needs to recall this immediately!!! why does someone have to be killed or injured seriously before nhtsa or nissan gets involved. i guess money is the root of all evil! and nissan is more concerned about their profits than someone's life! we as consumers need to do something about this! this has nothing to do with the wear and tear on our part, but nissan design department! *tr
Transmission not shifting at 50 mph during acceleration on freeway. unable to avoid fast traffic and stuck behind big rig. slow driving more dangerous than normal flow traffic. took to get transmission flushed and mechanic mention brownish color, but no contamination of radiator fluid. says needs rebuilt or new trans. i took suv back and been driving still with shifting working, but shaking at 60 mph or higher just like prior to shift issue. 65k only and from reading forums, i see many complaints and many unhappy customers including me. hoping nissan steps up and fixes this for free. not sure if trading in or fixing. love this car, but issue after issue. 2008 had both cats replaced, for lost of power. *tr
2005 nissan radiator and transmission failure. defective radiator causes engine coolant to leak into transmission which may fail at any time. driving at highway speed, entering traffic, merging or entering intersections causing dangerous conditions as the vehicle fails to move, decelerates quickly or the transmission slips badly and fails to accelerate. hundreds of incidents of failures are reported on the internet. an apparent design/manufacturing flaw in the radiator causes the condition. nissan has taken no responsibility or corrective action. thousands of unsuspecting consumers and their families are at risk each day driving or riding in these vehicles. consumers are left paying thousands of dollars for replacements. *tr
While backing out of a parking space, i heard a loud "clang" which sounded like it came from the engine compartment or under the front of the car. it sounded like a metal rod hit another piece of metal. as i was already out of my space, i proceeded forward, but my car lacked power. i was finally able to gain enough power to move forward, but something was obviously wrong. i was able to get my car to the dealer, avoiding the highway for fear of getting hit by someone while my car had very little responsiveness. the dealer inspected the car and claimed to be surprised of the failure, which was that transmission fluid had leaked into the radiator, and coolant into the transmission. the dealer quoted me $7000 to fix this issue. after calling around and finding an aamco dealer who explained to me this well known issue, i was quoted a price of "only" $3800 to fix it. the problem, as described by the mechanic, was a faulty design where the transmission fluid travels through the radiator with some sort of valve box between them and the heat differential between the coolant and transmission fluid necessarily causes the valve box to decay causing the 2 fluids to mix. the result is a completely ruined radiator, completely ruined valve box, and if not treated early, a completely ruined transmission. obviously, if i am driving my children on vacation and we're coming down a mountain when the transmission fails, this could be very tragic! now i am out a car, forced to obtain a rental car, and still need to correctly fix my own car. what's more, if i use the same components that nissan has designed, i will only be setting myself up for future problems. i looked online to see if anyone else had this problem and was amazed to find so many people with the same issue, describing in detail pretty much what the aamco mechanic told me. i find it hard to believe that the folks at nissan had never heard of it. it is obviously a faulty design and nissan needs correct it. *tr
The initial problem was that the vehicle overheated. further investigation revealed that the transmission cooler inside the radiator had broken. this flooded the coolant system with transmission fluid, which then circulated through the engine. the coolant/water mix also leaked into the transmission and caused the transmission to fail. corrective action taken - replace radiator, all hoses, and transmission. *tr
My 2005 nissan pathfinder began to shutter then jerk back into normal driving as it reached speeds of 60-70 mph. it was very sporadic in the beginning, but started to happen more frequently and at lower speeds for a longer period of time. i brought the truck into nissan with 70,000 miles, at which time i was told that the radiator leaked into the transmission causing the need for both to be replaced at the cost of $6700.00. i did alot of research and discovered that hundreds and hundreds of people with the 2005 nissan pathfinder with approximately the same mileage (just after warranty expires) are experiencing the same issues. it seems as though a faulty radiator system was installed into these vehicles. they kept my truck for 12 days while trying to decide if they would offer assistance with fixing my 5 year old vehicle. the end result being, that they would pay to replace the transmission and i would pay to replace the radiator as well as the labor costs. i was told that this did not occur as a result of anything i did wrong. i asked why a recall isn't being done, at which time i was told that the number of injuries or deaths was a major factor in that determination. although i was not injured, this is a huge financial burden to take on for a vehicle that is only 5 years old. nissan needs to take responsibility and stand behind the parts they put in their vehicles!! *tr
8-9-2010 i began having difficulty getting my car to shift into reverse. within 2 weeks, while driving down a crowded highway, my car wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th, and i could smell something burning. when i finally found a spot to pull over and park, a large puddle of fluid leaked all over the ground. i was alone, in an area i didn't know, and nearly got rear-ended several times when it wouldn't shift gears. i took it to several shops, and the transmissions was ruined. it would have to be rebuilt or replaced, both totaling thousands of $ i don't have. i borrowed money to have it rebuilt. within 2 weeks, i started having the same issues. when i took it back to the shop, the technician said radiator coolant had leaked into the transmission and it would have to be rebuilt or replaced again. after looking online, i see hundreds of complaints for the exact same issue. for the fuel system, approximately 5/2010, the fuel gauge will drop to empty, even though there will still be fuel in the tank. sometimes it will stick to mid-full when there is no fuel. adaptive equipment, when i start the vehicle and try to warm it up, it will only blow cold air, never warm no matter how long it runs. *tr
The transmission failed at 52,800 miles. no "slamming" of gears or shuddering or difficulty in shifting that would indicate an issue. transmission serviced at 40,000 miles and oil change/fluid check and state inspection passed 8 weeks prior to failure. when shifted into reverse, gear would not engage for several seconds. because acceleration/gas had been given, when the gear did engage, the engine would rev and reverse at approximately 20 mph causing near accidents with other vehicles and pedestrians in vicinity. brought to nissan dealer and was informed transmission fluid was burned. i requested the radiator be examined and although the dealer said they did it does not show on my service receipt. dealer stated it was a faulty transmission only, no radiator involvement. i was 3 months outside of the drivetrain warranty. after 7 days of negotiation, nissan decided to pay for part of the rebuilt transmission and labor. over $2000 out of pocket for trans and rental car. all service performed at regular intervals, all service records kept. all services were performed at dealer the vehicle was purchased from. safety recalls should not be business decisions based on saving large companies the millions they are cheating their customers out of on unusual repairs above and beyond normal maintenance. they should be based on saving lives and preventing accidents. i nearly hit a pedestrian due to this sudden transmission failure. *tr
Vibration in transmission, coolant in transmission oil. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would not shift gears and speed would not increase in speed more than 20 mph. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission was flushed. the contact continued to experience the failure and was unable to drive the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the technicians stated the radiator was leaking fluid into the transmission. the technicians stated the radiator and the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
At 60,000 miles my engine, catalytic converter failed. nissan replaced these components. shortly after... winter 2010-2011 car would not heat while idle. had coolant replaced. summer 2011 acceleration power issues/shaking. took car to dealership (north point nissan in little rock). replaced recalled part (relay switch) but refused to examine power/slippage/heating issues because the diagnostics reported i had a bad battery. did not place one of their batteries into my pathfinder to find problem but sent me on my way to get a new battery. also telling me that bad batteries cause cars to do crazy things at o'reilly's auto store they tested my new battery and it tested fine. unbeknownst to me all of the signs my car was exhibiting were the tell tell signs of the radiator/transmission defect. i am still unsure why they did not pick up the symptoms and properly diagnose my automobile. problems persisted... the next winter same issue... more coolant. in june 2012 my pathfinder would not start...diagnosed with transmission radiator issue that thousands have experienced. nissan sent a warranty extension to most owners of pathfinders. my pathfinder was not included in this extension ...???? for whatever reason they believed this defect did not apply to certain batches. had nissan sent me a warranty extension i would have immediately taken my car to be repaired. as it stands now my pathfinder sits waiting.. please hold nissan accountable. *tr
My transmission totally went on my 2005 nissan pathfinder. it would not start. the computer shut the car down b/c the transmission was not working. i was stranded with my children at a shopping center. i took it first to a transmission specialist. he could not repair it b/c he could not get the parts from nissan to fix it proper. he said he had seen 18 of these 2005 pathfinders with the same issue. it happens at 60,000-120,000 miles. i took it to a dealership. they knew right away. i was told it was a design flaw, the coolant from the radiator leaks into the transmission causing the transmission to go out. i was told i had to replace the radiator and hoses, so this would not happen again. nissan made changes in the radiator to correct their mistake. i had to replace my transmission, temperature gauge, and radiator with new. *tr
No problems with vehicle just one day didn't switch gears and service engine light came on. that was it nissan told me almost 6000 to fix radiator rotted and fluids leaked into transmission which made both no good. also 2 months later cd player stopped working will not eject and cds stuck in the system. *tr
Complete failure of automatic transmission in my 2005 nissan pathfinder se requiring the entire transmission to be replaced. *tr
Transmission "struggles" at 40 mpg and then again at 75 mph. told i need a complete transmission $4,500.00! used ones can't be found in the junk yards because the demand is high! *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder s/n [xxx] . engine coolant leaking into transmission due to failure of oil cooler causing transmission failure. i have read over 100 complaints on this same issue and nissan will not assist in the repairs. i was informed it would cost $5,149.00 before taxes to get this vehicle repaired. nissan knows this is a problem. the dealership i took it to shook his head and said he currently has one in the shop for the same reason, but they won't stand behind their product. to make matters even worse, they are replacing the faulty part with the same defective part. isn't there any way we can get this pushed through so nissan would issue a recall on this and take responsibility for their mistakes? please call me @ [xxx] . i woulod like to know what i can do to help the many people in my same situation. thank you for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Transmission started slipping on the freeway with the kids in the car. my husband found coolant in the tranny oil and then did research and found alot of people having this issue. our car is out of warranty but this is due to a faulty radiator leaking coolant into the tranny over time. *tr

Radiator developed internal crack leaking coolant into transmission. radiator had to be replaced, transmission needs replaced. fuel level sensor failed and replaced at 70,000 miles.
There's a transmission fluid line that run in the radiator to cool the fluid. the transmission fluid line cracked inside the radiator causing radiator fluid to leak inside my transmission. it destroyed my transmission causing a $5,000 repair bill. *tr
I was informed on monday, june 28, 2010 that my 2005 nissan pathfinder with only 68,900 miles is in need of a new transmission and radiator. i was told by a certified nissan technician that an internal failure in the radiator caused coolant fluid to leak into the transmission is causing the transmission to breakdown. approx 1 month ago i noticed my nissan pathfinder vibrating between 40-60 mph. it took three times to the dealer to diagnose this problem. apparently, this problem is not isolated to my vehicle alone. i googled the "2005 nissan pathfinder transmission problem" and discovered 100 plus similar complaints. nissan customer service is not taking ownership to this problem. they are well aware of the issue. my fear is pathfinder owners with similar issues will drive these vehicles unbeknownst to them there is an issue and the transmission may seize causing an motor vehicle accident. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while the vehicle was parked she noticed transmission fluid on the ground. she took the vehicle to an authorized dealer, and they advised her that she needed a receipt. however, the dealer would or identify what type of receipt she needed. two days later she received a recall letter; however, the dealer refused to perform the recall repair. the contact referenced recall nhtsa campaign id number: 10e019000, suspension:front:control arm:lower arm. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,600 and the current mileage was 55,774.
2005 nissan pathfinder. transmission failure due to coolant contamination. radiator had to be replaced as well as the transmission . many other problems with car. the fuel sending unit, air conditioning/heater fan, drive shfts/universal joints, brakes. just about everything has failed and cost me massive amounts of cash. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the transmission began slipping and the vehicle also stalled while driving between 40 and 50 mph. the failures were a recurring issue. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission. the dealer also stated that the transmission and the radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 80,200.
Flat unresponsive gas pedal response excessive driveline vibration at highway speed wheel and tire shake dealership stated nothing was wrong with the vehicle. occurred on a regular basis until failure occurred. second servicing dealership diagnosed failed transmission radiator and complete transmission replacement/repair. *tr
My 2005 nissan pathfinder with 55,000 miles. i notice a vibration under the vehicle which would last for 2-3 seconds everytime i would drive it. i thought nothing about it, until it got worst. now the vehicle stalls and vibrates more frequently while traveling on highways and major roads. i went on-line to research the problem and discovered the cause was from a leak from the radiator into the transmission and caused the slippage and the vibrations. thousands of other people who own a nissan pathfinder had similar problems and have gone to the nissan dealership and complained about the issue, as i had. the only thing nissan will do is replace those parts, but we the consumer will have to pay for it, although it is clearly a manufacturer issue in relation to nissan using inferior quality of parts. it will cost me $5,600 for parts and labor to fix a nissan problem. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder defected radiators leaking into transmission, rusting components leading to transmission slipping and failure, i was on the mass pike highway going about 60 when my pathfinder just pull back like you dropped it in low, 18 wheeler almost drove right threw my back of pathfinder, this has happened more then one time, sometimes while stopped in traffic it feels like the transmission is pulling forward without putting your foot on the gas, i have done some research online to find the same problem many others are having in the radiator there is transmission fluid( look) for white milky substance also antifreeze going into transmission, please search the web for 2005 nissan pathfinders complaints and problems, this is vary dangerous to be driving it is unpredictable when it happens and i was told just a matter of days before i will have to replace both radiator and transmission, this is a total defect on nissan, not fair at all, threshold be a recall on this a big safety issue could cause a serious accident. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder transmission failure 2005 nissan pathfinder has a problem with coolant leaking into the transmission. this transmission cooler is located inside the radiator. the faulty design ruins the transmission, nissan refuses to acknowledge the problem and issue a recall. nissan and the dealerships are aware of this ongoing problem, but still keep selling them to unaware consumers. my transmission is destroyed and i replaced the radiator after we found coolant in the transmission. i kept the old radiator. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder. we felt a vibration about two weeks ago. at 40 mph it felt like we were going over rumble strips. took to the mechanic. he said it was the transmission. radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and back. both needed to be replaced as they were ruined. car is not safe to drive. repair will cost $5,000. nissan will not cover any or all of the repair. the car only has 67,000 miles on it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving 40 mph the vehicle starting shaking as if she was driving over a grooved pavement. she drove home a parked the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and she was told that the transmission and radiator needed replacing because they were leaking fluids. the cost for the repairs was $5,900. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact stated the gas gauge had previously stopped working and she paid for the repairs. the failure and current mileages were 70,000.
Nissan pathfinder cooler/radiator/transmission are faulty and nissan is aware of the issue but refuses to warranty every cooler, only a percentage of them. nissan has extended the warranty for vehicles up to 80,000 miles or 96 months. nissan should be made to recall all cooler and cover the expenses for the ones that have had to have it fixed. make nissan warranty every faulty cooler. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving at 30-40 mph, the transmission began making a shuddering noise. the contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and then took it to a local mechanic who stated that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that the fuel gauge stopped functioning at 50,000 miles. the failure mileage was approximately 88,000. the current mileage was 88,562.
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder le, it currently has 64,000 miles, at approx. 58,000 miles i notice excessive vibration thru out the vehicle at about 74mph, i took the vehicle to have the tires balanced and rotated but this did not fix the problem, took the vehicle to nissan who told me they could not duplicate the problem but i should keep an eye on it, when it was time for my oil change i told them the problem still exists and again they could not find a problem so they re-balance the tires which did not change anything. i did some research online only to find out that there are hundreds of threads regarding this incident were the radiator coolant line leaks into the transmission and causing damage to the transmission, it is a known issue leading to the replacement of the radiator and transmission, car shakes tremendously as if it were falling apart, how can there be so many complaints and yet nissan does nothing to fix it, extended warranties cover transmission damage but your still left with a $1000.00 bill for the radiator. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder leaks coolant fluid into transmission which cause gear shifting problems. repair is $6000 for radiator and transmission. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder with approximately 78,000 miles developed a vibration and shaking when driving at a constant speed on any road, however; when driving with overdrive off the vibration and shaking is no longer present. when vehicle was brought to nissan dealership they discovered that the transmission fluid was mixing with the engine coolant and vice versa. upon diagnosis of this problem the dealership said it would be about $6,000 to replace transmission and radiator and fluids. luckily my extended warranty covered this. i am not the first person to have this problem. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f177b6c/0 http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/pathfinder/2005/transmission/coolant_leaked_into_transmission.shtml for proof of others with the same issue. *tr
Radiator leaks fluid into transmission, nissan knows this is a flaw and they will only flush your transmission, just to put it off until you are out of warranty. i started taking my nissan in at 52,000miles for this problem and they kept telling me that they are unfamiliar with the problems i was experiencing and they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. now i'm out of warranty and my transmission needs replaced. nissan also has a problem with they fuel gage, sometimes it shows gas levels, and sometimes it doesn't. i have ran out of gas 3 times now, on the highway! again, nissan knows this is a problem, they even sent an "extended warranty" to cover this problem specifically. but, only if you are under a certain mileage. and they didn't send me the notice until i was under the mileage limit by 300 miles! please help!! *tr
Radiator/transmission fluid mix the trans started shifting in and out of o/d at just over 40mph (vibrating) at about 99,000 miles. took it to the shop and found the radiator busted and mixed with trans fluid. had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed twice. at a cost of $1,058.00 it worked fine until 103,000 miles. it just made a thump noise and the transmission started slipping so bad it barely got me home. *tr
