We have classified the 167 complaints from 2005 Nissan Pathfinder about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Fuel level sensor a input high recall for nissan pathfinder does not include the 2005 models and they have the same problem. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder le fuel gauge reading fluctuates and reads empty 90% of the time, causing a potential accident due to inaccurate gas reading. purchased suv brand new in nov '06, reported issue during warranty period, but never seemed to act up when at the dealership, until 51k miles hit and the problem became permanent and out of warranty. i have 2 small children and have run out of gas once on a major highway 66 and once on a back road in winter with no reception. this is a serious issue that thousands of people online have posted the same situation. nissan clearly needs to issue a recall for the 2005 nissan pathfinder. i was lucky enough both times to not be re-ended, but have had my infant with me both times and had to have citizens push me to the shoulder. *tr
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i can not rely on my gauges to give an accurate reading of my fuel and/or how many miles i have until i am empty. now i have an additional issue that seems to be associated with this where my oil pressure needle always shows high. this did not fix itself. it appears there is a recall on 2006 and younger models for this issue, but my 2005 pathfinder is not included in the recall. the issue i am having is exactly what is associated with the other recalls. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder fuel level sensor fails... there is currently a recall for this similar issue on the 2006 and 2008 nissan pathfinder. the 2005 nissan pathfinder should be included also for the same reason. the vehicle could run out of gas due to the failed gas level sensor and result in a crash. my 2005 pathfinder fuel gauge is malfunctioning, and from what i have read, nissan is aware of the problem but refuses to cover it under any warranty. shouldn't the failure in the 2005 nissan vehicles have been included in the current recall as well? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the arm of the fuel sensor was fractured and he was unable to determine how much fuel was actually in the vehicle. both the dealer and manufacturer were made aware of the failure however, did not offer any assistance. no repairs were performed on the vehicle. the current mileage is 106,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 75,000. updated 04/25/12*lj updated 04/30/12
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder that started having problems with the fuel level sensor shortly after i purchased it used. the problem started around 60,000 miles. the fuel level will read empty even after the vehicle has been filled up. it also displays a service engine soon light because of the problem. my first concern is the vehicle running out of gas while driving down the road and loosing power steering, power brakes and control of the vehicle. another major concern is that something else could go wrong with the engine but i would never know because the service engine soon light is always on due to the fuel level sensor. this vehicle is primarily driven by my wife with my infant son so my most serious concern is that they could become stranded on the side of the road. nissan is aware of this problem and has even posted a technical bulletin ntb07-069a concerning the faulty part. the fault code is p0463 fuel level sending unit. *tr
First time- transmission failed- new one installed under extended warranty- has gone bad again last week- they tell me the coolant is leaking into the transmission and has ruined it, the gas tank needs replacing, new radiator, new catalytic converter, new u-joints for the second time. my extended warranty has expired- they are telling me that i need $8000.00 worth of repairs to fix the problems. that is more than the vehicle is worth with 155,000 miles on it!!! please help. *kb
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the other models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. i have read that the metal in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600."*tr
Fuel gauge reads full part of the time, empty part of the time and all in between. i have no way of knowing how much fuel i have in the tank. nissan is recall ing the 2006 pathfinders for this defect, but are not recalling the 2005 models with the same problem. i have contacted nissanusa and they have refused to repair my vehicel. the dealer did a diagnostic check and the problem is the fuel sending unit inside my gas tank. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder with 66,660 miles. my service engine soon light came on and was found the code p0463-fuel level sensor a circuit high input. the dealer wants to charge $500+ to repair although this is a common problem with this nissan vehicle because of defective parts placed when assembled. *tr
The gas gauge registered a half tank of gas. the car ran out of gas while driving at 70 miles an hour on the highway. *tr
The fuel gauge on my 2005 nissan pathfinder now does not work. i received a service engine soon light come on, and realized the fuel gauge was not working. i did some research online, and noticed that this same issue is widespread. *tr
Sending unit fail 2nd time
I have 2005 nissan pathfinder se. ses light came on, code p0463, fuel level sensor high output. this was causing my fuel gauge to malfunction, cost almost $600.00 to fix. only safety issue is running out of gas in an unsafe area. *tr
Fuel gauge not working, radiator fluid leaking into transmission damaging transmission, front passenger seatbelt getting stuck. *kb
When fuel guage gets to 1/2 tank level reading or less, it immediately drops to "e" (empty). this is a vehicle my wife drives, and she has run out of gas on several occasions due to the incorrect readings. this is not an intermittent problem, it is constant. we are concerned about potential safety issues associated with this defect, especially since she often travels with our 2 children. everything i have read from pathfinder owners relative to this problem indicates it is a defective fuel sending unit. we saw that a recall was going to happen, but were dismayed that it did not include 2005 pathfinders, as the same type of complaints from owners clearly indicated the problem spanned the 2005 model year. we now try to keep the tank over 1/2 full, but it requires us to make twice as many gasoline stops. this is a significant defect and does include 2005 nissan pathfinders. i would be happy to video tape what occurs if needed.
I was driving my vehicle to the hospital one day and the gas gauge suddenly went to empty and the check engine light came on. every time i fill up now the gas gauge stays at empty until 3/4 tank and my check engine light is permanently on. it's the fuel sensor that has gone bad and it will cost me 600.00 to fix this problem. i can't register my car because i can't get the check engine light to stay off. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder se. i have had an issue with it and it could of been a safety issue. in june '09 the radiator had a cooling line that broke which has become a transmission problem. and anytime that a drivetrain is in issue it could cause a safety issue. i replaced the radiator for $600 and the transmission went out with violent stuttering and engaging in and out while in heavy traffic which could of caused a major accident especially at highway speeds. i have replaced the transmission with no help from nissan. this is a major problem that has been documented by several hundred consumers all with the same problem. the total i spent was $3197.09 which should be reimbursed by nissan corp for this problem is well known by the yet no recall has been issued. *tr
Dte gauge read ------ and gas gauge went to empty with low gas light on. ses light came on. dtc p0463/ happen everyday. nissan pathfinder 2005. 52,000 miles. *tr
The fuel gauge on my 2005 nissan pathfinder isn't working properly. it will go from a full tank to empty and then back. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder. around 50000 miles the fuel gauge quite working properly and continues to show both accurate and erroneous indications. i will indicated properly at times and indicated improperly at times. also the distance to empty calculator has quite working. this is a very common issue with the pathfinders, nissan recently issued a recall for the 2006 and 2007 nissans for this problem. however they failed to include the 2005 pathfinders which have numerous reports of the exact same symptoms. i have run out of fuel twice due to incorrect fuel indications. fortunately they were both near home on unbusy streets. i have a 2 year old son and i can't afford to drive and unsafe vehicle. heaven forbid i run out of gas on a 4 lane highway with no shoulders. nissan knows there is a problem with these and yet neglected to include 2005 pathfinders in their recall. they continue to deny responsibility for the safety of the people that drive their cars. the fix for this cost nearly $500. in my case it caused the check engine light to come on, which in turn means my vehicle will not pass inspection. all because of a fuel level sendign unit that was either engineered improperly, manufactured imporperly or installed improperly. why is it that the exact same type of vehicles have the exact same problem all around the same mileage. i highly doubt it is coinsidence. in fact, nissan recognizes that there is a issue with the fuel level sending units, yet somehow the 2005 pathfinders don't fit into the recall. you would think with the recent issues with toyota that nissan would be more willing to ensure the safety of their passengers.
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder which has the same problem addressed in nhtsa campaign number 10v075000. the fuel sending unit shows the vehicle has gasoline when it is empty. this is a safety factor because "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash." i have filed two complaints with nissan north america and they refused to correct the defect. *tr
Gas gauge after filling tank gauged stayed at 1/4 tank nothing worked everything read -------- replaced fuel sending unit seems ok now. *tr
Fuel sending module failure in 2005 nissan pathfinder with approx 62,000 miles. this causes "check engine light" to come on and causes vehicle to fail emission test. fuel gauge does not work accurately either. my understanding is that this is a common problem with all pathfinders of this vintage and requires the fuel tank to be removed to replace the sending unit. i feel this problem is worthy of a recall since it is so widespread. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel sending unit failed and would not register the accurate amount of fuel that was actually in the vehicle. the failure caused the check engine warning light to illuminate. the fuel tank would read full when it was actually empty or low on fuel. the failure began two years ago. the dealer advised the contact that his vin was not included in any recalls. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 142,034. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
I have a 2005 pathfinder le. the fuel gauge is showing in-accurate reading even if there is no gas in the tank it still reads with a quarter of the tank which could lead to the vehicle running out of gas and stalling the vehicle in the middle of the highway as i use this vehicle on long trips with my family. there was a service bulletin ntb07-069b august 12, 2009 for pathfinders including this model but the recall does not include the 2005 model which is odd that they will bypass the '05 and start the recall from model '06 till 08, where, there were a lot of fuel gauge complaints. this failure has been happening every fill up. and i have been filling up every 1/2 a tank. *dt
Many nissan vehicles have failed fuel sensor units. nissan refuses to replace free of charge or to issue a recall. it is is safety hazard not to know how much gas is in your vehicle. especially when more than one driver have access to the vehicle. by googling the problem i found out that many nissan owners have this fuel sensor bug. several nissan models are effected. *tr
Began around 45,000 miles. service engine light displays, with an inaccurate and erratic fuel gauge reading. vehicle shows empty with warning light while driving. no way to tell how much gas is in the vehicle at times and consider it a safety issue. it is a known failure of the 'fuel sending unit' with many nissans, dealership was aware, nissan voluntarily recalled some 2006 and 2008 nissan paths for the fuel gauge/sending units but not 2005! it is the same exact problem. i travel with my young daughter and i had to repair at my expense so that i wouldn't run out of gas. a young mother out of gas and stranded with her young child ---how unsafe can you get? 2005s should be repaired at their expense. *tr
On a 2005 nissan pathfinder the fuel gauge stopped working properly with only 49,000 miles on vehicle. vehicle was also less than 5 yrs old. check engine light also came on at same time and remains on even after dealer servicing for an unrelated problem. after contacting nissan via email twice, and once over the phone, nissan will not acknowledge that (according to internet reports) hundreds, if not thousands, of people have the same identical problem. i believe they should be forced to recall these vehicles for this problem. this poses a safety hazard due to drivers running out of gas, thus walking on freeways; with their vehicles either blocking traffic or parked on the freeway. please help! nissan is negligent! *tr
Beginning on or about the date referenced, the fuel gauge began to malfunction by showing incorrect fuel level and "distance to empty" readings. for instance, the gauge will read empty when the fuel tank has just been filled. it will also read full when the tank is nearly empty. this problem has persisted constantly to the present time. *dt this malfunction also causes the "service engine soon" light to illuminate. the code associated with the ses light indicates a problem with the fuel level indicator. this malfunction constitutes a safety related defect which could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. in that regard, this defect is similar to the one addressed in nhtsa campaign number 10v-075 and should result in a product recall.
Nissan has a well known fuel gauge issue does which shows the tank as empty even with a full tank. my wife has twice run out of gas, once in a major intersection, called me crying. thankfully a good samaritan came over and pushed her out of intersection. my 16 yr. daughter is now driving this car and uses freeway daily, what happens when car stops at highway speeds and god forbid is involved in an accident because of this known issue. a 16 year old girl should not be subjected to this. is nissan going to admit responsibility if something terrible happened in this scenario? my issue is that this is now being recognized by nissan and a recall is being initiated. many 2005 models except the pathfinder are going to be fixed free. they are only going to fix from 2006+ on the pathfinder. there are numerous blogs on the internet that illustrate the 2005 nissan pathfinder owners are experiencing this exact problem. are we suppose to spend $600 to fix what nissan acknowledges as an issue and is fixing on most of their other models except the 2005 pathfinder. this is ridiculous. our pathfinder is the 3rd nissan we have owned. previous models were xterra and titan truck. *tr
Gas gauge failure on 2005 nissan pathfinder--gas gauge stops working, or works erratically. nissan has done a recall for 2006-2008 vehicles, but they have not included 2005 vehicles, which have the same problems. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving at speeds of 55 mph, the contact noticed the fuel level indicator reading fuel levels at empty after she had filled the fuel tank moments prior to the failure. in addition, the check engine warning light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated while driving at unknown speeds, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. immediately, the fuel level indicator began reading several various inaccurate fuel levels. the dealer replaced the fuel sensor at the owner's expense. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
2005 nissan pathfinder; fuel gauge issues. the fuel gauge is erratic, inaccurate, or inoperative. in addition, the "check engine light" is 'on' with dtc code of p0461, p0462, or p0463 stored in self-diagnosis. nissan technical service bulletin #ntb07-069a. *tr
My gas gauge was not functioning (indicated empty) after i filled the tank and then it would seem to start working again after driving for a few days. it happens each time i fill the tank. i have run out of gas once even though the indicator said i had a half tank. i took it to southern states nissan in raleigh and they said the fix would cost over $400. i did not get it fixed so i just hope it will have gas even though the tank will read half. *tr
The fuel sensor on my 2005 nissan pathfinder has failed. the car registers the fuel tank is empty when there is less than 1/2 tank. this is the second major issue on this car with numerous complaints from others on .this topic and the engine coolant system. this car needs to be recalled!!!!!!!!!! *tr
The check engine light came on approximately 12 months ago regarding the fuel level sensor (which is attached to the fuel pump and enclosed inside the gas tank). nissan has recalled 2006 and newer models for the same problem but not the 2005 models. this failure causes erratic readings in the fuel level gauge on a regular basis and can cause the vehicle to cease operation even though the gauge shows fuel availability. unfortunately my vehicle will fail its upcoming state mandated emission inspection even though it has not emission issue or fuel vapor leak. nissan wants $600+ to repair this defect. upon viewing national websites it appears this is a very common occurrence with the 2005 nissan models. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact was driving approximately between 30-40 mph. a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the fuel gauge displayed "empty". the failure occurred at any fuel level capacity. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on three separate occasions. the failure was contributed to the fuel gauge sending unit. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. the failure mileage was 40,000. updated 05/11/10. *lj updated 6/1/10 *cn the consumer stated a recall was issued for the 2006 models and up, however the 2005 was not included. the consumer stated the same part was used for the 2066 and newer models. updated 07/07/10.*jb
Fuel tank on 2005 nissan pathfinder doesn't read right. you can run out of gas. *tr
We have a squeaking underneath our vehicle and it smells like gas. after researching it online we found out that there is problems with the fuel pump assembly and that there is no recall. we are worried that our vehicle could be leaking gas due to the change in the fuel pump assembly from the 2004 to the 2005 model. our gas gauge reads incorrectly and the check engine comes on so we suspect it has to do with the gasoline smell and the squeaking. we think that there must be a hole somewhere that has occurred from the constant rubbing of the fuel pump assembly. *tr
My fuel level sensor went out on a 2005 nissan pathfinder. online research shows that this is a known issue with nissan xterras, pathfinders and frontiers. this leads to incorrect fuel gauge readings and 'distance to end' reading. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder se. the contact stated that the fuel level indicator would fluctuate constantly, reading inaccurate fuel levels. most recently, the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer stated that there were no recalls and that any repairs made to the vehicle would be at the owners expense. the manufacturer was contacted and provided no assistance. there were no repairs made to the vehicle. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 90,526.
2005 nissan pathfinder se 6 cylinder started showing erratic fuel level at 45,000 miles. fuel gauge will show empty/full or low after filling tank or show erratic levels when close to empty. i have to write the mileage after every fill up and project mileage for next fill up. dealer will not repair although the 2006 models with the same defective part in the fuel tank are being repaired or recalled. estimate cost of repair $450-$500. replacement for defective part is not available at dealership parts store. they are being used for the recall of the 2006 and newer models. this is an issue during long trips and registration. *tr
Fuel sending unit went out it my 2005 pathfinder. after reading forums and other internet sites. i am finding this is a major problem with nissan xterra's and pathfinders from 2005 to 2007. got a quote from a couple shops and its going to cost me anywhere from $350 to $450 to replace. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while parked, the contact noticed the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. in addition, the fuel gauge would not provide an accurate reading of fuel levels. the failure recurred intermittently but over time, the fuel gauge failed completely. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank) that but was advised by the manufacturer that the 2005 nissan pathfinder was not included in the recall. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. the mechanic advised that the fuel tank sending unit would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. updated 03/22/12 *bf per the nissan dealership, who performed the diagnostic, the failed component was the exact component that was covered in the campaign 10v07500 recall for the 2006-2008 model years. the claim was denied because the current mileage was beyond the level of the extended warranty. updated 04/13/12
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. since january of 2009, the fuel gauge has failed to display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because it is important to know how much fuel is in the vehicle. the vehicle has not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 68,000.
2005 nissan pathfinder se - with approximately 45,500 miles, service engine soon light illuminated, dte reading indicated -----, and analog gas gauge read nearly empty. having filled up that morning, i knew i had a full tank. local parts store read the trucks computer indicating a faulty fuel sending unit. after internet research, this seems to be a systemic problem with the nissan pathfinder and other nissan suv's. would like nissan take responsibility for their defect and make repairs at no cost to the consumer. *tr
Starting in feb. 009 with approx 53k miles fuel gauge started acting as if there was no fuel after filling up check engine light came on took to nissan dealer said fuel sensor was faulty after searching complaints on this site apparently not the first to experience. sister in law also has a 2005 pathfinder with the same problem is anything being done by nissan to rectify this situation. *tr
For a 2005 nissan pathfinder se with 41,000 miles. "service engine soon" light came on and dealer informed me the problem is a failed fuel level sending unit. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. reference nissan technical service bulletin ntb07-69a. recommend consumer-initiated recall of fuel pump and fuel level sending unit. *tr
