We have classified the 167 complaints from 2005 Nissan Pathfinder about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the service engine warning light illuminated while the fuel level gauge would only indicate that the fuel tank was half full. the contact stated that the fuel tank was full with gasoline. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was advised that the fuel sensor sending unit was defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.
2005 nissan pathfinder: service engine soon light code p0463 was diagnosed as a failed fuel sending unit. failure resulted in inaccurate measurement of fuel present in the vehicle's fuel tank. the total cost of parts and labor to replace the failed sending unit at a nissan service department was just less than $600. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated the fuel sending unit has malfunctioned causing the gas tank to give an inaccurate reading. the contact stated that while driving it's difficult to tell how much fuel is in the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. the contact noticed a recall for the fuel sending unit on the 2006 model but not the 2005 model path finder. the contact stated the manufacturer should reissue the recall to later model vehicles. the failure mileage was 60,000.
The molded fuel tank shell has deformed, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. this is the same condition and parts that are on the 2006 pathfinder. nissan issued a recall to replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm.on the 2006 and 2008 year models of pathfinder but not the 2005. the recall notice issued was nhtsa campaign id no: 10v075000. how can this condition be acceptable for the 2005 model and considered unsafe for later year models? *tr
I recently received a recall on my armada 2006 for the fuel level sending unit. i also have a 2005 pathfinder and i am having the same problem. i am not sure why the pathfinder which is a 2005 would not be on the recall list also, i had to pay almost $600 to repair at the dealer. i would think they would be the same type of fuel level sending unit from the same manufacturer. *tr
Fuel gauge not working.... you never know how much gas is in the tank... my family was stuck thinking that there was gas in the tank while going 55 mph. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder with 78000 miles. i purchased this brand new. the fuel gauge sensor stopped working around 76000 miles. i get a service engine light and my electronic fuel gauge does not register that i have any fuel. nissan recently sent out a warranty extension to fix this problem up to 75000 miles, but what about the rest of us who did not start having this problem until later? *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder: fuel gauge sensor problem. when i fill the tank the gas gauge drops below "e" and the fuel light comes on. the dte indicators flashes - - - - lines (indicating i am at 0 miles til empty), and the service engine light comes on. once i use about 100 miles of the gas the gauges will all correct themselves. we have contacted nissan and they will not cover this as it is not a recall. there are over a dozen articles on line where people have noted the same identical problem with the fuel gauges. nissan will not cover the problem - it will cost approx $700 for us to fix. please push nissan along and have them recall the vehicles experiencing this problem. *tr
Fuel gauge has been behaving erratically for over a year. in the last 6 months it works some of the time and dte indicator is stuck to "----" all the time. when fuel level drops below 1/4 of tank, it always shows empty, and even after filling up, it still shows empty for a long time. i can only guess how much fuel i have at all times, based on overall mpg rating and mileage since last fill-up. i've already got stuck once with no gas, thankfully not in the middle of a highway which could have been extremely dangerous and hard to get gas to the car. this apparently is an issue with thousands of owners of 2005 nissan pathfinders, like mine, yet nissan hasn't recalled this units, even though they recalled 2006 and later models, which indicates a major pattern of failure in their nissan pathfinder fuel level sensors. they are forcing me to replace the sensor and pump at a cost of almost $600 when it should be a part replaced as a part of a recall. please, do something about it. there are thousands of people out there with 2005 pathfinders that have the same problem and nissan is completely ignoring us!!!! *tr
The check engine soon light came on. i checked with obd ii and it was the fuel sensor. i checked online and found many others with the same problem. with so many failures it seems apparent it is the result of a faulty part and a recall should be issued. it causes the gas gauge to work erratically. nissan is charging over $500 to fix this mess to the customer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. upon starting the vehicle, the contact noticed the service engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed the fuel level sensing unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure and current mileages were approximately 87,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving the vehicle at any speed the contact noticed that the gasoline gauge would not indicate the correct amount of fuel inside of the gasoline tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was 134000 and the failure mileage was 118000.
Radiator leaks fluid into transmission, nissan knows this is a flaw and they will only flush your transmission, just to put it off until you are out of warranty. i started taking my nissan in at 52,000miles for this problem and they kept telling me that they are unfamiliar with the problems i was experiencing and they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. now i'm out of warranty and my transmission needs replaced. nissan also has a problem with they fuel gage, sometimes it shows gas levels, and sometimes it doesn't. i have ran out of gas 3 times now, on the highway! again, nissan knows this is a problem, they even sent an "extended warranty" to cover this problem specifically. but, only if you are under a certain mileage. and they didn't send me the notice until i was under the mileage limit by 300 miles! please help!! *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder. check engine light came on after filling up with gas. the gas gauge reads empty and fuel light is on even though the tank is full. called nissan told me this was a very common problem among nissan suv's but unfortunately there is no recall for my personal vehicle. i was told just to watch my mileage so as to not run out of gas or repair the fuel gauge sensor @ an estimated cost of $600. if this is a well known problem why can't the consumer get any help? *tr
Fuel gauge sensor shows erroneous amount of fuel in gas tank. consequence: this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. this failure is 100% of the time 2005 nissan pathfinder xe, nissan currently have a recall for this sensor on 2006 and 2008, however since a similar issue is present on 2005 they either missed my year or they don't actually know root cause of the problem. *tr
Vehicles fuel system is faulty. i noticed that the gas gauge reads empty after having a full tank of gas, additionally the digital "distance to empty" display does not work properly. at times the low gas indicator will be displayed even after i filled the tank up. i have been in two different situations where i ran out of gas on the highway thinking that i had enough gas for my journey. this is a major safety hazard. nissan replaced the parts on 2006 & 2007 vehicles but refuse to replace my 2005 device quoting that it has high miles and out of warranty. *tr
When my 2005 pathfinder's fuel gauge is at half a tank, the dte says ----. i have heard about the recall for the 2006 pathfinder which is the exact same model as the 2005. this needs to be fixed by nissan! *tr
I bought a 2005 nissan pathfinder in sept of 08, it had 39990 miles on it. a couple of months ago, my check engine light came on and the fuel gauge needle dropped from a full tank to empty. i took it to my mechanic and told him what had happened, he said it sounded like the fuel sending unit, so he hooked it up to the computer and that is exactly what it said the problem was. my pathfinder has 94000 miles on it now(54000 is what i put on it) i did a search online and found at topix.com, in the pathfinder forum out of 48 posts 10 were the 2005 pathfinder, 14 were 2006, 7 were 2007, 2 were 2008 & 1 was the 2009 all with the very same problem. there seems to be a re-occurring problem here. the recall on the pathfinder with the same problem was for the ones produced between 1/06 & 3/06 or 10/7-1/08. i think that this needs to be investigated. i own 2 nissan maximas one is a 1994 the other 2001 and i have never had any issues with them. please see what you can do about this. *tr
My 2005 nissan pathfinder hit a metal object in the road with one of the front tires. the object was propelled under the car towards the rear. there it contacted the fuel tank and punctured the tank. this caused 16-18 gallons of gasoline to flow out of the tank. after stopping i had to step through a steady stream of gasoline to remove my infant daughter from the middle row's driver's side seat. at this time i'm aware of no other damage sustained to the vehicle. police and fire department responded to the scene, and the police report is available upon request. this incident appears to be consistent with events described in the recall 06v003000 for the 2005 nissan murano, however to my knowledge it appears the 2005 nissan pathfinder has not been recalled for this issue. currently i'm awaiting the final repair bill and determination if anything beyond the fuel tank was damaged. at this time the current repair planned is to have the fuel tank replaced. the old fuel tank is being kept in the event it is needed for insurance or safety inspection. *tr
I bought the car in feb. of 2009 and by march of 2009 the fuel sensor started acting funny. it was not covered(which it should have been by the dealer) and i could not afford to pay out of pocket. now the fuel level will read "- - -" when the tank is less than 1/4 a tank of gas and it also makes the "service engine light" come on. it is not safe for families to be driving with a defective fuel sensor. i did receive the something in the mail about a recall on the gas gauge, but my vehicle had just passed the 72000 mile mark(72135 roughly) so i was told that it was not covered and i would have to pay out of pocket for the problem. i have been looking online and the fix is very expensive $500 and up. on a one income home i cannot afford to pay for a part that should have been fixed by the dealer before i bought the vehicle! also, when locking the car the horn does not sound anymore. this is not a huge deal but i am wondering if it has something to do with the "service engine light" that came on because of the fuel sensor. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact observed an inaccurate reading after gasoline was added to the fuel tank to its capacity level; however, the fuel gauge displayed less than half full. the authorized dealer stated that the vehicle was not covered under the recall defect; although, there was a recall related to the defect for the 2006 and 2007 nissan pathfinder vehicles. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 52,500. the current mileage was 52,700.
The fuel gauge is no longer working. the computer in the vehicle cannot read if any fuel is in the tank in turn lighting the "service engine soon" light. this is a great concern as the drive doesn't know how much fuel is in the vehicle which may cause serious accidents as a result of a stalled vehicle in traffic. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving at speeds of 55 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel level indicator displayed empty although there was gasoline in the vehicle. the dealer advised the contact that there were no recalls related to the failure and any repairs would be made at the owners expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 38,500 and the current mileage was 38,530.
Noticed a fuel gauge down to empty after gas was filled up. since the first time it failed, the fuel gauge has never been the same. it reads half or empty never in between no matter how much gas is in the tank. was informed by nissan dealership that its a know problem with the fuel send unit. nothing has been done to correct it as of yet. nissan has been contacted numerous times and have failed to correct the issue. the 2006 nissan pathfinder with the same issue has been recalled but 2005 has not been recalled. *tr
My 2005 nissan pathfinder has 58,136 miles and the gas gauge has started to malfunction. when filling up the tank, it takes driving the car for at least 30 miles before the gauge will move from empty and then the dte display never shows how many miles i have remaining and it show four dashes and sometimes 0. i am never sure of how much gas i actually have since the gauge is no longer accurate. this is a potential safety issue and i am concerned that they are recalling all models above the 2005 when we are having the same issue. please help! *tr
Service engine soon light started coming in and out and dte- distance to empty reads empty along with an erratic fuel gage which fluctuates from full to one quarter tank although vehicle may be full of fuel. diagnosis code of p0463-fuel sending unit pulled by dealership. this is second time this part as failed with the first being at 32,711 miles. i'm very concerned that my vehicle may run out of fuel while on the road, a major issue for my family's safety considering we have young children. this is a serious issue which clearly needs to be investigated.
2005 nissan pathfinder fuel sensor defective. nissan don't want to recall any car that 2005 n earlier. i never see any other car that fuel sensor go bad when it reach 40,000 miles. i have to keep my gas more than half everytime cause of that problem. i'm not the only 1 who own a 2005 pathfinder complain about these problem. if i have a chance i wouldn't buy a nissan again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. after driving 45mph and then filling up the gas tank, the gauge went to empty and the check engine light and fuel empty light came on. the contact spoke with an authorized dealer who stated a fuel gauge sensor and delivery unit needed to be replaced, no repairs had been made at the time of the complaint. the failure is a recurring issue. the failure mileage was 66000. the current mileage was 66300.
2005 nissan pathfinder fuel sensor defective. nissan don't want to recall any car that 2005 n earlier. i never see any other car that fuel sensor go bad when it reach 40000 miles. i have to keep my gas more than half everytime cause of that problem. i'm not the only 1 who own a 2005 pathfinder complain about these problem. if i have a chance i wouldn't buy a nissan again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the engine light came on and the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty, when it actually had about one quarter tank. the failure seems to be intermittent but is becoming progressively worse. the manufacturer was contacted and they stated there was nothing they could do. the contact stated that the failure defect is the fuel tank sensor. the vehicle was being repaired at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
In january 2010 on 2005 nissan pathfinder the fuel distance to empty reader began showing inaccurate readings (ie. with full tank it would read 0 miles to empty, or with 1/4 tank left it would read as though tank was full). service engine soon light would sporadically light-check showed for fuel sensor. than without warning the gas gauge itself began to give false readings, same as above. within several days lost all power on vehicle while driving on highway almost causing a crash. repair facility states that vehicle was out of gas though gauge was registering more than 1/4 tank left. further investigations shows this is a common problem with nissan vehicles, but nissan has failed to recall this safety issue. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder. at approximately 46000 miles the fuel gauge began acting erratically and i got a check engine light. i took it to the dealer and diagnostics showed code p0463 which indicated a fuel sensor sending unit failure. i talked to the service technician about it and he stated this is a very common problem with my model year, in fact there has been recall on previous models however my vin was not covered. i had to pay 473$ to get it fixed in order to pass emissions testing. i feel this is a safety issue as without knowing the amount of gas in the fuel tank my wife and kids could easily become stranded. *tr
1.gas gauge was reading past empty so on my way to drop my kids off at school stopped and fueled up. prepared to fill up the tank since the reading was past empty but the tank would only hold about 2.7 gallons. a couple weeks later the same thing happened but the opposite; the gauge was reading 3/4 tank full but obviously the reading was wrong because my wife ran out of gas and was stranded. 2. this is a recurring issue; the fuel gauge has not worked properly since feb 2010 3. took the truck into nissan for repair and was told there is no recall report on the 2005 pathfinder's fuel gauge but there is a recall on other models. i was told the repair would cost around $500. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact was driving 30 mph when he noticed that the vehicle fuel sensor was not working. the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was empty; although, gasoline was added to the capacity. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the sensor at her expense although she had owned the vehicle for one month. the contact stated that the failure was directly related to an existing fuel sensor recall. the manufacturer was notified and stated that her vin was not related to the recall. the failure mileage was 89000 and the current mileage was 90400. updated 4/7/2010 *cn updated 06/01/10. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. when the contact started the vehicle, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). the contact experienced the identical failure as mentioned in the recall defect. the vin was excluded from the recall. the failure mileage was 59,000. the current mileage was 61,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact started the ignition. the engine warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the failure was contributed to the fuel level sending unit. the vehicle was repaired for the malfunction. the failure mileage was 51,190.
Filled up with gas and fuel sensor goes bad. gas level is no longer correct thus vehicle could run out of gas at anytime causing a hazard. this requires replacement of sensor. *tr
2005 pathfinder se- with 52k miles vehicle shut off while traveling at high speed (70mph) on freeway- all power controls failed problem was identified to be with a failure of the fuel level sensor- reports acquired indicate that this is a widespread problem with premature failure of this unit on 2005 and newer model year pathfinders- fuel level indicator fails and gives inaccurate reading to driver - when tank is empty shows it to be 1/2 full. when driving at high speed loosing all engine power can be catastrophic dealer reports many similar problems but nissan has not recalled for this widespread manufacturing/design problem reported also on line. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder gas gauge failure is a safety issue. the gas gauge in my 2005 pathfinder fails and has caused the car to run out of gas twice in busy interchanges. a rear end collision could result in an accident or death.
2005 nissan pathfinder gas gauge suddenly stopped working and service engine light came on thousands of people having his issue should be a recall. *tr
Fuel sender gauge on my 2005 nissan pathfinder is failing or has failed. will consistently flash dashes or report "0" for the distance to empty indicator and the fuel gauge is now responding similarly. there has been no damage to property or injury as of yet, but i am appalled that nissan has the 2005 armada (similar design) and the 2006 pathfinder listed for the recall, but claims the pathfinder is not covered by this, when a quick search of forums will offer up overwhelming evidence that this is a problem for numerous parts of the product line and could easily result in the car shutting down due to faulty information or running out of fuel due to inaccurate readings. to make matters worse for owners the repair for this runs upward of $600 for an admitted faulty part. can the dot at least look into this and consider rectifying this situation? i am having a hard time believing that a company could just overlook this problem and simply get away with it. please help us who are having a hard enough time making ends meet every month since this economic downturn began and are looking at unexpected vehicle failures that are blatantly a manufacturer's defect (even admitted to) but not covered by some weird economic choice. if i'd thought i'd be going through this, i would've bought both smaller and from another manufacturer. you can bet that currently i will not buy another nissan again, regardless of how many americans they employ. *tr
I am getting obdii codes (p0463) and "check engine" sign is on even after reset. once my fuel tank is less than 3/4 and i refill it after it was close to be empty i am getting "check engine" sign on problem. i know that it is related to a fuel tank level gauge. i also know that there are hundreds of people like me that experiencing exactly the same problem but nissan doesn't cover faulty part replacement for free. we need to do something with it! thanks *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the vehicle would exhibit problems with the fuel system. the dealer confirmed that there was a defect in the fuel tank shells. the contact inquired about nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank) which she believed applied to her vehicle. the dealer stated that the failure in her vehicle was exactly as described in the recall campaign; however, upon contacting the dealer, she was told that her vin was not included. any repairs would be at the owners expense. the current mileage was 39,000 and the failure mileage was 37,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel gauge did not function properly. the vehicle ran out of fuel because the gauge indicated that the vehicle did contain fuel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that this vehicle used the same fuel sensor as the 2006 model but the vehicle was not included in recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank). the failure mileage was approximately 95,000. the current mileage was approximately 102,000.
I don't understand that 3 nissan 2005 pathfinder recalls have recently been announced within the past 6 months but i don't qualify for 2 of them because of the year/mileage cap. so people who actually use their vehicles are at a disadvantage even though a design flaw has been acknowledged. my wife and i have owned 6 different nissans (pathfinder, sentra, ultima, murano) since 1998 and disappointed with the handling of the year/mileage cap on the pathfinder recalls. this makes us seriously think about looking elsewhere for our next vehicles. *ln
2005 nissan pathfinder fuel level sensor. current nissan recall for same problem does not cover 2005 model year. fuel gauge reads inaccurate fuel levels may result in unknowingly running out of gas with the potential for bodily injury and property damage. nothing replaced yet but the sensor is $600.00. occurs once a week. *tr
Fuel gauge sensor quit working. *tr
The gas gauge on my 2005 nissan pathfinder doesn't work properly. this problem has been recalled on several other year models, but they will not fix my 2005. i have run out of gas 3 times, once with my grandmother, my 2 yr. old daughter and my 2 month old daughter. i cannot afford to fix this problem. the brakes have also gone out twice on this vehicle. *tr
Check engine light stays on and fuel tank level does not work properly. i don't know what caused it to start. it started on its own. *tr
Re: 2005 nissan pathfinder about 2, 5 years ago, my fuel gauge read 1/2 full or all empty and check engine light was on. changing oil reset light initially, but it came back on. short time later car failed safety inspection because of gauge and light. car mechanic replaced sending unit, fuel pump and filter. said pump needed to be replaced in order to replace sending unit. dec/09 car failed to start. gauge read 1/2 full. mechanic said fuel filter failed, but pump had to be replaced since filter is inside pump. jan30,2010. as i write this my tank reads half full and the car won't start. it is doing the same thing it did the last time. being stranded because of a failed fuel pump/filter/ gauge/sending unit is dangerous. i can trust that a part (that is supposed to last the life of the vehicle) isn't going to fail me. i would add over the last several months, despite appropriate servicing and maintenance, (even replaced tires) my fuel consumption has become very poor. the issues are somehow connected. see also blogs http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/nissan-pathfinder/tmvjfugon9rd4eb8i entitle "fuel gauge problems". evidently, there are a lot of people world-wide having the same or similar problems. *tr
