Tl*the contact owns a 2001 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 20 mph, the contact was making a sharp right onto a freeway when he could not control the steering. the contact was able to pull over to the side of the road where the vehicle came in contact with the side rail of the emergency lane causing scratches on the front bumper. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the technicians stated the driver side strut tower was corroded and broke the steering column. the technicians replaced the strut tower, the abs brakes sensor and the steering column. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000. updated 03/03/11 *bf the strut tower separated from the unibody frame because of rust on the bottom/ the steering shaft snapped when the strut tower pushed inside the engine compartment. updated 09/01/11*jb

My 2001 nissan pathfinder se 145,169 miles at the time. (this noise began around 120,000k miles). now i have only 1k more out of necesity. front right side(drivers side ) began to make a thumping sound. soon after the sound both sides were making the same thunp. i can feel every bump and crack in road and steering feels way off. the service center told me both front struts were bad and the upper mounts were rusty and need replaced for safety issues as well as ride of truck. i have my estimate at $740.00. at this time i cannot afford the cost of this repair. nissan has sent a letter hinting to a future recall, but they said they would contact me later. what am i supposed to do? drive until the struts blow!!!! unacceptable to send a recall notice to be determined. thank you *tr

No crash yet but i do have a fish tailing, side to side wobbling that appears to be a design defect from nissan. i own a 2001 nissan pathfinder with 99,000 miles and at speeds over 50 miles an hour, the truck will start wobbling side to side due to a rut in the road or a gust of wind. from what i have been told by several nissan mechanics, the rear upper and lower control arm bushings are bad and deteriorate prematurely, causing the dangerous wobble in the truck. the cost to replace the bushings is $700.00 plus and have to be replaced. very poor design which will end up causing serious accidents or injuries. thank you. *tr

2001 nissan pathfinder. consumer writes in regards to recall notice concerning strut tower housing *tgw the consumer stated the entire strut assembly was replaced on sept. 5, 2008 before the notification was received. the consumer is requesting reimbursement. *jb

I was driving my 2001 nissan pathfinder on a bumpy road and hit a pothole, the right strut punched through the strut tower and i could no longer control the vehicle. i then had it towed to my local shop and found out the whole of both strut towers were corroded beyond belief. i had one repaired after i reported it to my insurance company who then charged me a point on my license for the accident. i then traded the vehicle in order to avoid paying through the nose for the other strut tower repair, i then find out nissan did a recall on the problem. now they refuse to pick up the phone. they even gave me a bogus e-mail account to send the paper work for the reimbursement. i feel they at least owe me the amount for the repairs and the surcharge i am still paying. *tr

I have 2wd nissan pathfinder. the car has been vobbeling left to right and right to left at speeds of 50mph and over. some of the symptoms are excessive play in the rear axle especially during moderate acceleration or deceleration. a vehicle pulling at a constant speed excessive sway and rocking motion in the front suspension when coming to a stop. there are about 100 + people that i found on one website with the same problem. http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/t5lstpr50npco9ctl there are many other sites like the above site where people have posted their problem and solution. *tr

Rear suspension sways violently from side to side when driving over 50 miles per hour, especially when cruise control is used. several mechanics could not diagnose problem so it has continued to get worse over past 2 years. now, through internet, learn this is a very common problem in this model, requires replacement of bushings and is known to the manufacturer who has taken no action. *tr

Strut housing and structure rusting, crack in housing and mount. *tr

I have a 2001 nissan pathfinder 4x4 se. for about 8 months now i have been experiencing a problem with the handling of this truck. the car begins to shake extremely hard between 55 - 65 mph. the shaking is so bad it is sometimes difficult to keep control of the steering because the steering wheel shakes just as much. i have seen that im not the only one with this problem. i have gone to the dealer several times to get this problem resolved. they told me it could have been the alignment or the balancing of the wheels and i payed to get that done to no avail. the problem persists even with new wheels and tires. i dont know what it is but it should be looked into before something terrible happens to somebody because of this problem. *ak
