Problems with 2006 Nissan Murano SEATS

On average, the 2006 Nissan Murano starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 77 313 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2006 Nissan Murano

The drivers seat became loose around the left rear floor area of the seat frame. the seat motors still worked but the seat movement was rough and sounded like it was grinding when engaged. a nissan dealership replaced the entire assembly at a cost of $946.00. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. the contact stated that the rail that allowed seat to be adjusted on the front driver's seat was fractured, causing the seat to abnormally tilt to the left. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that it was a manufacturing defect which needed replacement and welding to repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the defect however no further assistance was offered. the current mileage was 116,000. the failure mileage was 115,000.

The bracket under the drivers seat broke as i was turning a corner. the left side of the seat dropped several inches and nearly caused me to go off the road. this is a major safety issue and after doing a little research seems to be a major issue for nissan. it should definitely be a recall as it is a huge safety issue. *tr

[xxx] driver seat broke from shaft, seat leans back, went to nissan dealer was advised it would cost $1500, checked around junk yards unable locate color, and the seat was in new jersey. i was unemployed at the time could not afford repair, my husband cut a 4x4 block to put under the back part of the seat, only had 32,000 miles, may 2012. i did not crash but had a big jerk and swerved to the left of the road. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The bracket holding the driver seat up broke while sitting in a parking lot. it made a snapping sound and lurched down in the rear and to the left, causing me to lean into the door. now the seat rocks back and forth while i drive/accelerate/decelerate. upon investigation, the part of the bracket that broke was a poorly designed v shaped punched metal link which developed stress fractures at the weak points. with very little research, this appears to be a widespread problem with muranos '03-'08, and is addressed under a tsb, however a recall has not been issued. this is a huge safety concern for me and combined with other defective issues such as a leaking steering rack and driver visor which refuses to stay up, i am not likely to ever own a nissan again. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan murano. the driver side left weld bracket broke on my seat. this has created a huge safety hazard for me... and it's going to cost me around $1400 to fix. this doesn't seem right to me... i have seen a lot of complaints about this same issue. why hasn't nissan stepped in and issued a recall to make this right before someone gets seriously injured or killed, due to this issue. i was under the impression that nissan made a quality vehicle that was built to last and safe. this is extremely dangerous! *tr

The driver's side power seat somehow broke under normal wear and tear. the seat leans to the left side and wobbles to the front and back. therefore having to accelerate, decelerate, turn corners and go over rough road causes the seat to move all over the place. i believe this causes a safety issue while trying to drive. this is a nissan design flaw that should be on a recall notice and corrected by nissan free of charge to the consumer. there are numerous complaints regarding this seat and for many, the dealership wants to charge some outrageous price to get the problem corrected. another issue is the driver's side visor which flops down unexpectedly while driving for no apparent reason. when returned to it's normal place, it will fall down. this causes another safety issue while trying to drive. the visibility is compromised and an accident could very well occur. please address these design flaws for recalls. *tr

Driver's seat frame broke in 2 spots. metal fatigue likely cause on this critical component. *tr

While leaving the parking lot of a store, i heard a pop and my seat immediately went to the left and rocked backward. my foot moved away from the accelerated and there was some loss of control of the vehicle. the seat continued to rock as i drove. at one point i had to make an abrupt stop, the car lunged and with gravity my seat rocked backward decreasing the pressure of my foot on the break. i have to hold myself up on the steering while driving to keep the seat somewhat stable. if i have to manuever a deep curve either right or left it is difficult to handle the vehicle while bracing myself to keep the seat still. i have seen some of the complaints about this seat issue. there is also evidence in the complaints that a nissan mechanic admitted that this was a design flaw. i have reported this to nissan customer affairs and they even admitted that this was a design flaw and safety hazard. it is a safety hazard for the owner of the vehicle and as well as the public safety.

Drivers (left front) seat bracket/frame broke. the seat moves during turns, deceleration, acceleration, and braking. dealer wants $1300 to replace the part. *tr

On my 2006 nissan murano s the seat was loose when i got into the car. it appears a metal bracket broke about the connection point to the seat . this little piece of metal l-bracket has something to do with the ability for the seat to rise and lower. since it has 49,000 miles on it, nissan consumer affairs doesn't cover it because they say the seat bracket is not a safety item. i now have a seat that rocks and moves around while driving/turning. i called the local nissan dealer, they told me they have seen this several times. it seems the seat can be fixed for a mere $1300. this has never happened to any cars foreign or domestic in over 40 years of owning a car. i can't think of any part failures where the manufacturer won't admit their part just might not be designed for the stresses it is supposed to take during normal usage. please let me know should this get any attention. however for the safety of myself and family members who use the car , i find that i will need to have it repaired or replaced. that to me is a priority even though nissan has a different opinion. *js

Driver seat start to move sideways, after looking below i have found the support crossbar of the frame is broken at the end so the seat now leans up and down, back and forth. the dealer quotes $898 part +$250 labor just to replace the frame. of course is not covered by nissan. how many other brands beside nissan have you seen with this problem? i am simply appalled by the lack of concern from nissan. after reading complaints about seat collapsing, wheel bearing going out, visors falling blocking the view of the driver, steering hoses braking causing fire, in vehicles with low mileage i cannot believe nissan does not identify this as a safety issues and allows the consumer to pay for these faulty components. this is my first and last nissan vehicle. *tr

While driving on interstate at 70 mph, in the left lane of a 6 lane highway my driver's seat suddenly buckled, snapped, and dropped towards the door. i immediately panicked, afraid to take my eyes off the road i began working my way to the extreme right lane to pull over and see what had just happened. with no prior indications of any problems my sit just suddenly broke and i was leaning on the driver's door while driving. when i took my car to my nissan dealer i was told there were no recalls for this matter, later i learned this to be a common nissan problem. i was charged $149.00 for part and $272.14 for labor to have 87473-ca01a :link assy-rr li installed. since this repair the bottom seat molding is now hanging off my seat, i have been told i need to purchase a new seat frame also!. *tr

Seat jumps off its track from the left side of the driver's seat while driving. on a curve or through a pump on the road causes temporary disruption of the driver's focus on the road thereby loosing temporary control and increasing the possibility of a crash. *tr

While driving down a residential street i heard a noise like something had cracked, and felt the driver's seat move. after pulling over, i noticed that the seat could be rocked back and forth by hand - it was no longer stable. upon further inspection, i found that the back left part of the seat bracket had failed. i was later told by the dealer that this was not covered under warranty and that the only solution available was to replace the entire seat, which was going to cost over $1,000. i found a website (http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/nissan/murano/seat) where 242 other complaints have been filed about this exact same issue. either the bracket or the assembly (welding) of it appear to be defective. this is a significant safety issue, because having a seat break while driving could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. *tr

I had just got into the car and was driving out of a parking lot and i heard a crack noise and the driver seat just fell back and lean back to the left. the seating now just freely falls back and the seat rocks back and forth. *tr

As i was turning, the driver side seat collapsed and seat started shaking and wobbling toward the left and backward. i managed to get to a safe place to investigate the problem. the thin bracket under the seat had broken. the seat is making it hard to steer since it can wobble any time i make a turn. searching online, it appears that this is a common complaint, but nissan will not recall this defective part. it cost approximately $467 to replace and there is no guarantee that it will not happen again in the next three years. this is a manufacturer defect, but nissan will not recall. *tr

I was on the highway driving and i heard a crack noise and the driver seat just fell back and lean back to the left. the seating just freely falls back. i pulled over and look underneath and saw that there is this little bar, slimmer than my pinky finger, which was support the seat broke. when i got home and researched, i was shocked to what i saw, a lot of complaints about this issue.this experience was one of the scariest thing i have ever experienced. to know that this was the only bar supporting the seat and nothing has been done about it, i am really shocked and really hope something will be done for nissan to rectify this problem before it is too late for some people. *tr

Front drivers seat left side came loose from bracket., after searching on internet and finding out nissan will do nothing to repair for free or recall this defect i am forced to find another repair ,option since repair cost around a 1,000.00. *tr

Left rear anchor/ bracket broken at welds causing tilting of driver seat to left rear when weight applied. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. the contact stated that the driver side seat would wobble abnormally and when the brakes were applied, the seat would spring forward toward the windshield. the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 69,000 and the current mileage was 70,000. the vin was unavailable.

Driver's side seat was noted broken by mossy nissan (1546 auto prkwy 92029) in august 2012 during a repair for power steering failure. head technician at mossy nissan paul and service man [xxx] claimed it was due to a faulty welding job to the seat track. repair was made august 23rd due to safety concerns and the fact the car was inoperable. mossy offered a more cost effective repair (original repair entailed replacing the whole drivers seat totaling over $1,000 plus labor) by outsourcing to a local welding shop for half the price at $530. it was also noted that this problem had occurred at least 3 times to the same model of car in recent years. i do not feel confident of welding job on said vehicle due to past repair at mossy nissan on december 26th 2011 for replacement of rear lower motor mount totaling $627.75. just months before the next welding repair in august 2012. i do not believe this is a consumer repair for either case and i am seeking the full refund of $530 and $627.75 for said repairs. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. while driving approximately 70 mph, the front driver's seat moved backwardly without intent. the contact continued to drive cautiously. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the driver's seat support bracket fractured and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 51,300.

Driving approximately 60 mph on highway; looked over left shoulder to change lanes and heard loud pop. seat fell back and to the left unexpectedly. this did cause me to go into another lane - thankfully there was no one there at that time. for the rest of the ride the seat bounced up and down and moved forwards and backwards. i see that i am not the only person who has had this issue. nissan does sell a "bracket" to help reinforce this but it is over $1000.00 or you can buy the seat brand new for $2-3,000. especially if you have heat/electric to the seat. these prices do not include labor either. i have two small children with me every day and i am thankful that this did not end in an accident. it seems that eventually it may end that way for someone though. what does it take to have a safety recall? does someone truly need to loose their life in order for a recall to happen? when you spend this much on a luxury vehicle you expect it to stand up and the maker behind it to stand behind it!!! i am extremely unhappy at this time with how nissan is handling this. *tr

While pulling out of a parking lot, i heard a loud pop, and felt the drivers seat move back and to the left. i pulled over not long after that to take a look, and noticed that one of the brackets under the seat had sheared off. the seat now leans to the left and will rock back and forth when driving down the road, especially when turning corners or running over bumps. *tr

Like all the other complaints i have read online , i have the same complaint. i had bought a 2006 murano with only 28,000 miles, along with being the second owner only and not long after i had it, the driver seat broke!! they say it is not under warranty and it is not a safety issue but how is that possible??? when you are driving ,your seat is loose!!!!! and what if you get in an accident and the other half of the seat breaks as well!!! how can they not recall this product due to the number of complaints on the same issue!!!!??? i love my car but very unhappy with nissan that they will not stand by their product !!!! *tr

Driver's seat, left side became loose and seems that frame/bracket on the bottom is broke. *tr

I sat down in my driver seat and the seat broke. *tr

Driver power seat unable to move. gets stuck at one location so can not move to adjust for proper driving location. also possible airbag issue since can get seat stuck up against steering wheel. no way to adjust seat once motor stops working. even paid to get repaired the other month and now it has stopped working again. only thing good this time is that the seat is stuck further back and not up against the steering wheel. that is a dangerous problem. check out nissan forums to see how many are having problems with driver seat motors stopping. *tr

Broken seat track from no known cause driver's side contacted nissan and they would not stand behind it, reason, out of warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. the contact stated the front drivers seat broke away from the frame on the vehicle and began to wobble. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated the seat frame was broken and the entire seat needed to be replaced. the contact spoke to the manufacturer and was told the seat breaking was unusual and it had to be because of the way it was being used. the contact feels this was a safety issue because the seat was unstable. the failure and current mileage was 79,000.

Failure (metal snapped) of seat bracket on left rear of driver's seat. went to dealer. dealer won't repair for free due to out of warranty and advised that nissan won't repair under goodwill. *tr

Normal driving - driving my child to school. driver side seat suddenly fell on the left side. injuring my back. the seat bracket on the left rear seems to be cracked/broken. the seats rocks forcefully without notice up and down even on slight turns. almost lost control of car on a very high elevated freeway turn as when i turned to the left, the seat abruptly came up turning my body to the right - that movement made me then suddenly pull down on the left side of the steering wheel, which then forced the car to suddenly swerve to the left. fortunately, there was no one next to me and i was able to recover. if this were to happen to someone on a higher speed freeway turn ramp, there would be a high chance that they would loose control and possibly cause severe injury or death, depending on roadway and space/design. the car is now very dangerous to drive as you have to try and balance yourself using your left leg/foot pulled up to seat. when cornering you have to put so much attention on trying not to swerve as the seat rises & drops you depending on which way you are turning. the rising and dropping on turns, naturally pulls or pushes your body which is holding the steering wheel - this then causes a severe sudden pull one or the other way. it also takes your attention off the road and surroundings. in conclusion, when researching this, i have seen this under defects but no recall. there are hundreds of complaints of this poorly designed lower seat frame and one day this will end up killing someone. i sure hope it does not take that to become a recall item. *tt

My driver seat just went loose and it is not safe to be driving in that condition also add that both sun visor falls down and will not stay up blocking my view. i called nissan about it and the person that answered my call just told me i'm very sorry to hear that, but none of you murano problems are on recall so you would have to pay out of your pocket. i will appreciate if you can help me ( and hundreds of costumers) with this issue that nissan just kept on getting away with it, i been very close to crash due these problems and seems that nissan do not care about safety only money. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. the contact stated while driving approximately 3 mph the drivers seat metal bracket failed causing the seat to move backwards.vehicle has been taken to dealer and repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 56,000. updated 09/29/2011 *ln *tr

Bracket on drivers seat cracked causing seat to tilt back sharply while driving causing unsafe condition

Broken seat frame "drivers side rear of the seat". no incident i'm aware of, just broken. steel strap broken in the middle of the strap not at the connection points. 64k miles. *tr

Drivers side seat broke, known defect, safety hazard

2006 nissan murano, front seat broke loose in left rear corner while pulling out of a parking space in a store parking lot. caused my body to suddenly shift in the seat and drop back. lucky this wasn't on a quick curve or at highway speed - could easily have caused an accident. numerous on-line forums abound with complaints of the driver seat breaking loose in this way. *tr

One week after my extended warranty expired the driver's seat frame on my 2006 nissan murano suddenly broke, while i was driving. it scared me and i thought i was about to have an accident. the frame broke in the rear left section of the frame. the seat now bounces rearward. this has got to be a terrible hazard. i see numerous other consumers have had or are having this same problem and nissan needs to be accountable. lives could be lost because of this hazard. *kb

The driver's seat frame on my 2006 nisan murano suddenly broke. the frame broke in the rear left section of the frame. the seat now bounces rearward. to temporarily stabilize the seat, i have wedged a piece of wood between the frame and the floor. fortunately the break occurred in my driveway. had it occurred while driving and turning a corner, vehicle control could have been lost. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed that the front driver side seat began to rock back and forth. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technicians stated that the under carriage of the front driver side seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Structural failure of the anchor/bracket on the left rear side of 06 nissan drivers seat. i would hear a squeaking when i would sit down but found mount bolts tight. sat in it 6 july 2011and drivers seat broke and fell to the rear and towards driver door. unsafe to drive in that condition. looked it up on-line and found numerous other complaints about this part. right now i have a piece of wood supporting the seat so i can get it to dealership. when will something be done on this defective part? does someone have to die first? *tr

I have a 2006 nissan murano, and yesterday my wife was driving it and the seat broke. this is the same complaint as every other nissan murano owner has had apparently. the back left part of the seat broke. nissan wants $1000 to fix a faulty part. my wife is lucky to have not gotten into a wreak. this is a very dangerous issue. *tr

Driver seat positioning on my nissan murano 2006 lost or broke part. seat is not attached ont he right rear side. seat is unstable and woblly. *tt

Transmission failure and driver seat failure. *tr

On june 25th, 2011, i got into my 2006 nissan murano (the mileage is only at: 47,228) to find my driver's-side seat had come loose from the floor on the back left side. the chair isn't 'a little loose'-it comes completely off the floor on that side. when i made a broad left turn on my way to the dealership, i felt the seat tilt underneath me and, even though i was driving very carefully, it still scared me. i gripped the wheel tightly but because my body was being sent to the right, the car went that direction as well. i was able to stay in my lane, but had i taken the turn faster and not been aware that my seat might shift, it would have taken me completely by surprise and i would have ended up in the civic next to me. i went online and there are hundreds upon hundreds of similar complaints, too many of which detail how the seat broke while the driver was taking a turn or coming to a stop, and caused the driver to swerve into on-coming traffic, jerk the car onto a sidewalk nearly hitting pedestrians, or caused them to drop back so hard they slam their shoulder and head into the driver's side door (please see www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/nissan/murano/seat to see just how many people have already been put in dangerous driving situations because of this bracket defect). and that is just one website full of angry consumers that cannot believe the danger they were put in, especially because nissan knows this bracket is defective in five years worth of murano models (2003-2007). it obviously severely compromises the driver's ability to maintain control of their vehicle, especially when it can happen so suddenly while in the process of coming to a stop light or simply going around a curb. as i mentioned above, the loose seat made me jerk my car even though i was driving carefully and was aware of the problem, so i can't imagine my reaction if it happened all of a sudden and while taking a tighter, faster turn. this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. *tr
