Problems with 2004 Nissan Murano SEATS

On average, the 2004 Nissan Murano starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 87 803 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2004 Nissan Murano

I was turning on a highway loop and i'm short so i had the seat all the way up to be able to see. when i started turning there was a bunch of cars behind me and the back of the seat made a loud popping noise and i hit my head on the window because the back right of it gave out. i pulled to the side of the road and got my self together. this happened to another coworker with another nissan murano but she had less problems since she's a tall woman and when the seat broke it didn't go all the way down. looking at the seat the back right of it has a big metal bar piece that snapped. it no longer goes all the way up making it a hazard to drive without getting it fixed. * dsy

On march 29, 2018 i sat down in my car and felt the drivers seat move downward for the first time. when i got home i exited the car and got back in the same thing happened again. there was no indication of anything being broken or out of place prior to the 29th of march. additionally, i have not been in any accidents, nor has any one driven my car besides myself. as of today (april 2, 2018) i have taken my car to a mechanic for an estimate and will check with another repair shop on april 3, 2018.

From normal usage, the front side driver's seat broke (in 2016) from what i believe is a defective seat bracket. now the seat wobbles and rocks whenever i am driving and when the car moves side to side at all. seat broke upon exiting vehicle. i weigh 163 pounds and am the primary driver. no sudden movement created the break.

Rear left anchor bracket sheered off causing the seat to fall while driving. almost wrecked the car.

I have always been a fan of nissan until now my driver side seat broke , one of the brackets on the left side has completely broken in half, and by the looks of the many complaints nissan has gotten about the very same issue it is very clear to me this is a factory issue. i do not understand how they have investigated this issue and came to the conclusion that it is not a safety issue just by the fact that there has only been a free minor injuries so far, the whole point in issuing a recall is to prevent injury , due to the high number of complaints should be probable cause for a recall in itself. that is ridiculous how has no one issued a lawsuit against you people yet.

My drivers side seat just broke on the back left side so now you can't sit in it and drive. i now sit crooked in the seat and don't feel safe driving it, what if i was in an accident and my seat now might throw me somewhere because it is now broken. this should be a recall.

Driver side seat would not power forward, but merely swivel in place....as the nylon driven gear on right side of seat was stripped and jammed in the metal drive gear attached to the seat motor. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan murano. while driving 30 mph, the driver seat independently moved forward and back. the vehicle was not diagnosed. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 114,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan murano. the contact stated that the front driver side power seat track fractured. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the front drivers seat suddenly collapsed and leaned to the left. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the seat tract was inoperable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. the vin was not available.

Drivers seat, left rear side of seating area dropped along with upright back support reclining backwards creating a most unstable situation. inspection revealed complete clean break of adjusting support bracket. research reveals this to be a serious problem with nissan murano vehilces 2003 thru possibly 2008. no known recalls that i am aware of. estimates from nissan dealers are reported in the $1,200.00 range for repair. unless the factory steps up to the plate, i have purchased my last nissan vehicle.............ever....... *tr

Making a turn onto a cross street and heard a loud popping noise, followed by the driver seat becoming unstable. when the turn was completed, it became obvious the driver seat was broken. i did some research and found that this is a known problem with the murano, and has been reported numerous times across multiple model years. appears that there was even an attempt to force a recall, but that was never followed through. filed a complaint with nissan - required a detailed service report (~$125) before they would do anything. found that they would not fix for any car outside of warranty (and this apparently usually happens after the warranty period has expired). typical dealer cost to repair is $800 to $1200. can also be self-fixed by replacing a bracket ($100) or welding the broken piece (~$80). to me, this is a dangerous situation as the seat can break at any time when the metal has fatigued. i felt fortunate to not have this happen at a higher speed. *tr

Driver seat loose and when you try and adjust the seat it goes sideways. vehicle was moving

While going around a turn i heard a snap and the drivers seat fell to the side. upon mechanic inspection found broken frame. *tr

Seat bracket broke when my wife was driving down the road. this caused the seat to tilt forward. i called the local nissan dealership and they wanted 1036.00 dollars for a part, for safety reasons should be recalled. if one of these brackets(they have a problem with front and back) breaks during a wreck, the seat angle could effect the effectiveness of airbags. my wife is scared to drive it. this seems to be a problem with these vehicles. called nissan corp. they said there was nothing they could do because there is no active campaign to recall. *tr

The driver side seat bracket failed during routine cornering. the seat now sits several inches lower to the left and rocks during cornering. this could have been a serious safety situation if this had occurred at highs speeds. this appears to be common problem with this vehicle, and i find it hard to believe that nissan has not issued a recall. *tr

The driver seat bracket broke on the left side. the seat now tilts to the left. when discovered vehicle was parked and not used. on that day i just sit in the car and seat tilted to the left. looked under neat the seat and saw that the meat bracket that holds the seat broke in two. this is serious safety issue for me as a driver. i am just glad that the bracket did not break while driving that could have caused an accident. read several forums on internet where people complain about same problem. nissan needs to fix this issue. recall is needed. *tr

The driver's seat adjustments are no longer working. it appears the track on the left of the driver's side seat is stuck therefore the seat is stuck in a slight sideways position. *tr

I got in my murano, started it, and began to drive. suddenly, the left side of my seat dropped several inches (about 5 or 6 inches). this drop created a jerk to the left. upon inspection of the underside of the driver's seat i found the support bracket to be broken (cracked in both support points). *tr

There was a structural failure of the anchor/bracket underneath the driver's seat. while i am driving, the seat rocks from side to side, and dips up and down. when i turn, the seat rocks a couple of inches down and then pops back as i come out of the turn. *tr

There was a structural failure of the anchor/bracket underneath the driver's seat. while i am driving, the seat rocks from side to side, and dips up and down. when i turn, the seat rocks a couple of inches down and then pops back as i come out of the turn. also vehicle loses acceleration power when coming out of a complete stop. *tr

While driving on road i was waiting at green light waiting to turn left. as i began to make the left hand turn across oncoming traffic my seat lifted several inches off the vehicle floor. my body felt as if i had been forcefully lifted and pushed simultaneously. this required me to pull the steering wheel to the right, the opposite direction i was turning, in order to regain control of my own body. this was hazardous to oncoming traffic and. myself as i nearly had been t-boned by the oncoming tractor trailer and nearly ran off the road, down, a 5 foot ditch, and through a fence. it was a terrifying experience. i've never experienced or have heard of a seat breaking. i am not overweight nor have been from the time i have owned the vehicle, 6 years. its baffling as to why a drivers seat would malfunction in such a manner. i immediately researched my problem and found this was previously investigated by the nhtsa and closed for the reason of not having posed a safety issue due to no documented occurrences while driving. well here's your documented occurrence that nearly caused a family of four their lives. it's absurd the number of complaints on the formentioned issue and there isn't a recall. my vehicle won't pass inspection with my seat in this condition yet nhtsa deems this as a safe condition in which to operate vehicle... i'm baffled how this is classified as safe to drive... it's not. *tr

Seat pan brace broke while i was stopped at a stop sign. 2nd time this happened. 1st time was about 4 years previous at about 60,000 miles. previous repair was at a nissan dealer and i requested a price adjustment from nissan but was denied. i have defective part if you need. *tr

Seat mounting bracket broke . makes seat tilt to left while driving . no recalls even tho this a common occurrence on this model . just shows nissan desire to stand behind product ....... *tr

Driver left seat had a structural failure on its bracket that results from metal fatigue. this failure caused rearward tilting of the driver's seat while the vehicle was operated and potentially compromise vehicle control. *tr

Driver side seat moves while driving causing a huge safety concern for me and my family. the back left seat bracket is broken due to a weak metal part. *js

Driver side seat bracket broke during a turn. temporarily caused me to loose control of vehicle but was able to regain control before an accident could happen. our only car and we have a 2 1/2 year old child. after doing research on this, i discovered that this is a very common failure and nissan has yet to issue a recall. *kb

The driver seat is moving left when turning left, and when moving the seat forward, only the left side is moving causing the seat to tilt left. when check at the dealer shop, it appear the link is broken and the right side motor is defective. the dealer admit that the problem occur in many murano 2003-2005,but sad that my extended warranty expired . please investigate about this problem in the nissan murano 2003-2004. it did happen in many of them. *tr

Driver side power seat track assembly of my nissan murano 2004 stopped working while driving. the seat is now disabled and locked in place. there are tilting movements at times along with noise sounding as if it may potentially come loose and dislodge itself rendering dangerous driving condition. dealership has stated over $1200 for the part and installation (out of warranty). the problem appears to be a common issue with all murano year models. *tr

We have had another issue concerning our 2004 nissan murano. this time it is the driver seat that has broken. the nissan dealers know of this issue and have not offered any help other than wanting to charge $1000.00 for the seat frame assembly. a seat that has broken! a very integral part of the car that should be strong and free from defects. it would be justice if someone could make this company own up to the terrible craftmanship that this vehicle was constructed with. *tr

The driver's seat rocks back and forth because the bracket that holds the seat to the base has broken.this seems to be a rather common occurrence with this model.this is a very unsafe condition because the seat is no longer solidly affixed to the floor.this is a major design flaw, and should be addressed by nissan.the replacement part to remedy this is almost $500.00 and that does not include the labor. *tr

The weld on the drivers seat frame is fractured. it is a major safety issue and nissan has changed the part from what is originally in the vehicle, although nissan won't admit to a change. *tr

The front drivers seat cannot be moved forward or backward. the right side of the seat appears to be stuck in place. the inability to adjust the seat impacts a drivers ability to position the seat for safe driving i.e. pedal distance, steering distance, side view mirror viewing etc.... this appears to be a known problem. there are several websites where owners discuss their experience one such website is http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f14ec7a (this is an edmunds.com blog), a second blog site where owners report this safety issue is http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/66-problems/10406-more-drivers-seat-problems.html. this is nisssan web site. a third set of complaints can be found at http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2005/nissan/murano/seat. this is clearly a problem which may cause an accident. *tr

I have the same issue with my driver's seat breaking due to the thin metal used in the seat assembly described here: nhtsa action number: pe08065 the left rear of the seat collapsed and now the seat rocks back and forth while driving. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/investigation/2004/nissan/murano/seat. *tr

The power seat motor on my 2004 nissan murano se has failed. it will not move forward or backwards. in addition, the wheel hub bearing failed/broke and also had to be replaced at a very expensive cost. prior to this, the differential also failed/leaked and had to be replaced/fixed. this vehicle has only 100,000 miles and has endured a ongoing series of repairs for numerous factory installed defects. the nissan, murano is not a safe, reliable vehicle to own. *tt

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan murano. the contact stated the front driver's seat motor failed, no longer allowing him to make adjustments to the seat. the contact expressed concern over the possibility of the seat involuntarily shifting while driving. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000. updated 07/08/11 *bf the consumer stated when the key was inserted into the ignition, the seat would move automatically. updated 12/19/11

I own a 2004 nissan murano and the driver seat has broken within the last 2 months. it rocks side to side and front to back when applying the brakes. i took it to a mechanic and paid to have it welded but it did not hold. this is dangerous as if it breaks while driving, this structure failure to the driver seat could cause a fatality. this is a common problem with this vehicle. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan murano with a broken drivers seat. the left side of the driver seat support frame has fatigued and broken. several repair shops in my area have indicated that they will not try to repair because the guage of the metal support is too thin. new seat bases, which are hard to find, can cost $1000 for the part. my internet search has revealed this to be a common problem. need help on this! My nissan 04 murano driver seat frame got fractured and lots of people having the same problem. first time it broke i got it wielded now the frame got fractured from the other side. this is dangerous and annoying. please do something about this. thank you *tr

Drivers seat lifter carriage frame in my 2004 murano has broken. *ln

While pulling away from a light my seat made a snapping sound. after that the seat is very loose and wobbles when moved with your hand. as i make turns the seat rocks side to side. *tr

Driver seat has skipped and/or broken off the left track causing the seat to rock dangerously. this is a common problem in this vehicle i've seen and should be a recall item fixed by nissan for the faulty seat track mechanism. this is clearly an extremely dangerous condition. fortunately, i have been able to temporarily re-seat onto the track with the following method - by raising the seat to it's highest level and moving it back to it's farthest point then dropping the seat to it's lowest level and slowly moving the seat forward. this seems to regain the track but has only been a temporary solution as it ultimately skips off track repeatedly and fixes the seat to it's lowest position which might not be suitable for many short drivers. <-- i hope this temporary remedy helps others who may be driving dangerously in this vehicle. a $1000 repair was quoted by my nissan dealer, however, i am going to continue the temporary re-alignment described above and when that ultimately completely fails, i have no idea what to do except hope nissan finally owns up to this obvious design flaw and fixes it. *tr

My 2004 nissan murano awd se front driver seat broke . i took it out and paid to have a guy weld it . others have told me that it is a common murano problem . some suggested that it is already a nissan recall issue but i can't get any info to prove it . it still flops around . also the front wheel bearing went at 75k miles but that's another problem . the doors lock automatically if you slam the door sometimes . imagine jumping out of the car to put mail in the box and when you come back it's locked ? dealer said he fixed it ... he didn't . the tail gate back door latch sticks . also the metal rim of the gasoline filler neck got rusty and pitted . consequently the gas cap didn't seal properly and the check engine light came on . the dealer wanted 800 dollars to change the filler neck . i sanded it and fixed it for nothing . *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan murano. while attempting to adjust the driver side front seat, the contact noticed that the seat would mechanically move forward. however, all of the additional movable positions did operate normally. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the currrent mileage was approximately 89,000. the failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

I was taking a left hand turn when i heard something snap and my driver's side seat fell back to the left. my foot came off the gas pedal when the seat fell back. i've read all of the complaints and i find it hard to believe that this is not considered a safety issue. i could have easily lost control of the car or come to an abrupt stop from my foot coming off the gas if i were traveling at a faster rate of speed. i just returned from the nissan dealer. they had to completely replace the seat lift frame assembly for a "discounted" cost of $1135.80 which i paid. i could not drive the car in this condition (the seat was not stable and wobbling every time i took a turn or hit a bump) so i felt i had not choice but to repair it. from the invoice i think the part # is 87450-ca68b and then below that it says mh7826. *tr

2004 nissan murano, drivers seat spontaneously broke, seat is now leaning against the door frame. seat no longer functions properly. seat rocks from side to side in stopping. afraid of further failure in seat that could result in the driver seat coming completely disengaged which would put driver and passengers at serious risk. independent mechanic acknowledges seat failure in muranos is common. *tr

The driver seat became unstable and would adjust without using controls. seat just broke (the frame) and almost caused us to crash due to displacement and listing to the left. very scary. just found out this is a common issue and that it will be nearly $1000 to repair. *tr

Driver's seat unstable which moves during drive mode. nissan says that the car is out of warranty and won't fix the problem. the cost is estimated over $750. *tr

Nissan murano seat loose and wobbly, straining my back and causing problems when pressing the pedals, this should be under recall!!! also tilted to the drivers door side. very disappointed in nissan. also have a grinding sound in front tire area, going through too many sets of tires. very disgusted !! *tr

Nissan murano 2004- front drivers seat is loose and wiggly for the last week. last night it was extremely cold and the seat seemed to collapse on the door side leaving it crooked it feels awkward to drive, worried that the seat will come off or something. i just contacted nissan and am waiting for a response. this car was a gift from my dad in florida and i only have owned it for about a year, so i doubt rust is an issue. right now i am unable to pay for a expensive repair due to high winter bills and x-mas. any help will be appreciated. thank you. *tr
