Can stalls on highway while driving. service engine soon light comes on. car will not start--engine will not turn over after this occurs. no accident but could cause accident. repairman initially stated it was a loose gas cap--tightened and service engine soon light went away. but it happened again yesterday and i stalled out at a light. car would not start right away. eventually did start. *tr

This nissan is not fit for the road it is showing signs of the recalls listed for this vehicle and the manufacturers will not fix the defects. this vehicle will not start right away and it lunges forward and could be serious. *tr

I have had to tow my vehicle 2003 nissan murano 3-4 times via acsc automobile club of southern calif and physically took it to the same company twice. paid over $2900.00 out of my pocket in which i am disabled permanently due to heart disease and collect social security, and at one of my stales in the middle of laural canyon and roscoe blvd when i am not even allowed to pick up things under 5 pounds no pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending avoid wetness, fumes, gases, heights, humidity, dust you get the picture i am only 40 and i have the heart of an 75 yr old women anyways i hade to push my car all by myself for over 50 ft before someone helped me god was definetely watching over me!!!! now lets gt down to business like i said earlier i took my murano to the same dealership they never could find out what was wrong i kept telling them about the car problem they never took me seriously. av nissan was the same stupid dealership charged me thousands and finally now the recall. i want my money back not all but they let me drive off never fixed the same complaint. as i described earlier about the stall in the intersection i have broken down 4 or 5 times and it was very phyisically hard on my whole body let alone my heart and that was just wrong!!!!!! *tr

Vehicle "service engine soon" light has come on, vehicle has varying pauses between pressing gas and vehicle reaction, vehicle stopped running while driving (with my pregnant wife driving and 18 month old son in vehicle), and restart has long crank duration. on april 17th, vehicle turned off at stop light while i was driving and restarted after long crank period. i pulled off to parking lot and car turned off and failed to recrank. this creates a very very dangerous condition in the vehicle just shutting off while driving! dealership indicated the cam sensors needed to be replaced. i have read that several other people have had similar experiences through researching this problem. i also understand that there has been a recall on crank position sensor or cam position sensor for this vehicle (year, make, model) for these exact problems, but when inquiring to nissan about this, my vin was not associated with the recall, despite being the same make, model, and year! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving approximately 40 to 50 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the check engine indicator illuminated after the failure occurred. the vehicle shut off a total of four times, but was able to be restarted. the contact took the vehicle to the repair shop for a diagnosis and the camshaft position sensor was initially determined to be the cause of the failure. the mechanic then stated that if the camshaft position sensor was replaced, it would not correct the failure. the contact was informed that the real issue was with the computer and electrical system in the vehicle. he was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact will take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. the current and failure mileages were 41,000. updated 3/27/09 *cn updated 04/01/09.(jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact noticed that the engine warning indicator illuminates on the instrument panel and then the vehicle stalls. the failure occurs primarily in the morning when the engine is cold. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling); therefore, the contact would have to pay approximately $400 for the repair. the vehicle has not yet been repaired. he called the manufacturer and was not provided with any assistance. the failure and current mileages were 66,250.

I have a 2003 nissan murano at 65,000 miles the cvt transmission case cracked in half. the car was inoperable and left me stranded. after thousands of dollars in replacing the cvt transmission the transfer case has cracked again at 120,000 miles. i have contacted nissan usa and they have persuaded me to pay for diagnostic work (although a large visible crack in the transfer case is quite obvious) and then proceeded to deny all reimbursements. this is a serious issue with hundreds on complaints online, an official nissan tsb, yet no recall from nissan or nhtsa. *tr

I bought my 2003 murano in january of 2008. every time i had an oil change done i was told that i had a very low amount. the low amount was never looked at as a problem. when i was getting a recall completed i was telling the service department employee about my low oil level when i took my car every 3,000 miles. he asked if i had any oil leaks that were left on the ground when i moved my car. i let him know that i have never seen oil on the ground. i also let him know that i hear a rattling noise sometimes when accelerating from a stopped position and sometimes my car gets stuck when i try to accelerate and then after a few seconds it will zoom forward. i have almost rear ended around 6 cars. i try to let cars get a little ways in front of me if it gets stuck so i do not rear end the car in front of me. i should not have to do this. he said that the recall of the alternator would fix the issues with the car getting stuck and they would check the engine. i still have this problem today with the car getting stuck. i had an oil consumption test done every 1,000 miles and by time i made it to the 2,000 miles my oil level was low. so they never did a third oil consumption test like they said they would. then i was told that they would need to replace the entire engine. i have seen many complaints about the same issue. i feel that the engines that were placed in the 2003 nissan muranos were defective and should be recalled because this could cause an accident and i have a 14 month old son in my car with me 90% of the time. therefore not only is my life and others in cars around me in jeopardy so is my son's life. this defect should be looked into immediately because i am sure there are many other people have this same issue. there is one other issue i had where i had unlocked my doors and put my child in the car. when i went to get in the car had locked on it's own. luckily we were at the house and had a spare key. ...

Catalytic converter failure at 125k miles. *tr

Start having problems with my 2003 nissan murano around 80,000 miles. the car started to skip while running and soon after, the car seems to have no power. sometime after driving it for 20 mins or more mostly coming off the highway, i would experience no power when accelerate". after turning, the car off and allow it to sit for 10 mins. the problem did not repeat until again driving over 20 mins and repeat as above. my service engine soon light came on shortly afterwards. i had my local autozone to run a diags test and two codes came up p0011"camshaft position bank 1 & p0021 camshaft position bank 2. i took the car to nissan dealership and they too ran a diags test and both codes were present for failed intake timing sensors. they said the cars oil pressure was low and recommended a change. nissan replaced both camshaft censors on 1/08/09. total repairs & labor was $430.00 on 06/01/09 again the car was repeating the same problems. i took the car back to the same nissan dealership and they ran another diags test. again, codes p0011 & p0021 were present. the service tech explains the reason for the code was due to insufficient oil changes. also, explain the car needs the 90000 mile service treatments. they performed the 27-point inspection "all" changed air filter, battery service lube locks, oil & filter change rotate tires. total repairs and labor $334.99. when i pick the car up, the car still did not have the power it normally had before all the problems, however the engine check light was off and the tech told me to drive it and bring it back if problem occur. my total repairs this time $334.99. the car continue to miss & skip and would continue to have a loss of power and would delay when accelerating after driving more than 20 mins in 80 degree temp. i am still having problems; my vehicle should be part of the 03v455000 recall circuit board for the crank position sensors. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. when the vehicle was started, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle has difficulty starting and will shut off without notice. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and a technician stated that the crank position sensor and camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. the repair would cost $400. no repairs have been made. the manufacturer stated that a recall was in place for the sensors; however, the vin was not included in the recall. the contact could not be reimbursed for the repair. the failure mileage was 51,500 and current mileage was 51,700.

Service engine soon lit up 3x. first 2 was covered by warranty. third time had to pay around $100 just to check. turns out there's computer is sensing gas vapor leak but when checked, turned out no leak but had to pay just to check. ripoff! *tr

Catalytic converter is bad at 110k miles. *tr

When the car first started acting up i was on the interstate on my way to work. it all of a sudded started stalling. i had to press the driving peddal all the way down and then it would take off with a very hard jolt. this would happen off and on especially if i was in stop and go traffic or came to a stop sign or stop light. the car would stall before taking off. i took it to the delearship and they kept it for three days and said they could find nothing. this is when the transmission was under warranty up to 120,000 miles. they said the car would have to do it while in ther shop or they could do nothing. i just found it so hard to believe that the car showed no signes of doing anything that i described while they had it and drove it for three days. well of course i got the car back and it was still doing the same thing. i took it back to them and they told me that it was the transmission and the repair on it alone was going to cost me 3600.00 all by itself. the car was doing the very same thing when i took it in to them the first time but surprisingly after the warranty was off they all of a sudden found the problem. somebody really needs to look into all of these complaints and get these situations under warranty so that these cars can be fixed properly. its not fair to take the car to the dealership about a problem that could have been fixed under warranty to take it back to them for the exact same thing and they tell you that the repair is no longer under warranty and you now have to pay for it.

Regarding the recent recall on nissan murano's.... i have/had the problems indicated in the recall since i purchase the 2003 nissan murano. when i would go into the dealer or if i had to have the car towed to the dealer i was told the problem was my battery. my battery has been replace 3 times. i have engine stalling while driving, stalling when starting, the engine cut off while slowing down to stop, i had my headlights/turn signals flashing without anyone in the car and as i attempted to start the engine it would not turn. each time i would complain to the dealer ( ed martin nissan indianapolis, indiana) the same symptoms of this recent recall i was told it was my battery. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving the vehicle would stall, and the lights would fail without warning. after the vehicle stalls the check engine warning light illuminates on the instrument control panel. a representative from the manufacturer stated that her vehicle identification number was excluded from recall number 03v45500 ( engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was 55,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut down without warning. the contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the road. he waited 30 minutes and was able to restart the vehicle. he drove to the dealer and they stated that the battery was the cause of the failure. previously, the dealer replaced the cvt valve due to the stalling failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 100,000.

I have a 2003 nissan murano. yesterday as i was pulling into the driveway, i noticed it was overheating a little. i immediately called the repair place and had them come and take it to be serviced. they just called to inform me that the radiator is cracked and the thermostat housing needs to be replaced at a total of $1144.60. t here are 75000 miles on this car and it has always gone for scheduled maintenance, oil changes, and everything required to keep it running optimally. have read about radiator cracks from several other murano owners, and knowing the other problems i have had with my lemon of a car - they had to replace the alternator 3 times - i would seriously believe that there are going to be more and more problems with the radiators cracking on other vehicles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle completely shut down due to a faulty camshaft sensor. there were no warning indicators prior to the failure. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 82,765 and failure mileage was 82,750.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving 20 mph, the engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle would not restart and was towed. the dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced because the rear sensor in the engine failed. the repair was not made. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the current and failure mileages were 91,000.

Nissan murano sl. while driving this car in heavy traffic at about 65mph the service engine soon light came on and the car slowed down to a stop. i was unable to get the car going again. this incident happened on a 250 mile drive i could not use my cell because it happened in a dead zone. i had just had the car serviced with a oil change the day before this incident. *tr

I have a 2003 murano, that continues to have persistent problems with failing camshaft sensors. there is a specific recall that covers camshaft and crankshaft sensor design issues in the 2003 murano, but nissan has refused to cover the work, since my vin doesn't fall within the recall range. i have even talked to the vp of east cost customer service, who told me to report the problem to the appropriate governmental agency. we have experienced all the problems that are described in the recall multiple different times over the last year. these are :"service engine soon" warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash." it also includes the car stalling at 45 mph for my wife on a dangerous winding road. for a small women without power steering or power brakes, this situation was extremely dangerous. both camshaft sensors have been replaced already, and one of them is failing again for the third time. i have already spent $500, and it will cost at least that much to pay for the changes that nissan requires under the recall to really fix the nissan design flaw. the main problem is that nissan refuses to fix the problem, even though it is obvious that i have the exact same problems as the recall. *tr

after driving the car for about 30 min or so every time i step on the accelerator pedal the car is delayed in moving. in addition every time i drive the car i lose power. the check engine light comes on and the car slows to a crawl and stops. i will then have to coast the car off to the side of the road. wait a few min and then restart. this is very scary every time i try to make left hand turns. other times i am driving it just will not move for a long 5 to 8 sec delay. cars coming at me in at any speed have almost hit me. there were no warnings prior the stalling. this happens every single time i drive the car. i read there was a nhtsa recall# 03v455000. the throttle body 3 times, transmission 2 times. motor mounts and a host of other parts. let's see oh yeah the tcm twice. valve body replaced. miles at 105,000. i have spent over $900.00 plus. the dealership i bought it from won't take it back. at this point i just want out of this car. could anyone help me? *tr

on september 12, 2007, i took my car to keras nissan located at 2080 covington pike in memphis, tennessee, because the shock absorbers were failing in the front of the truck and again the check engine soon light came on. i decided to take my truck to a different dealership because i no longer trusted the workmanship of dobbs nissan, where i made the initial purchase. i dealt with travis, a service advisor that advised me they would find the problems. after my vehicle was serviced, i was informed that the motor was non-repairable. travis stated that it looked as if i never serviced the engine with oil. i explained that i have regularly scheduled maintenance on this vehicle. he stated that i would need to gather all of my oil change receipts to present to nissan warranty to prove regular maintenance have been performed to replace the engine. oil changes and dates of receipts provided: dobbs nissan: april 29, 2006 september 26, 2006 june 13, 2007 danny?s car care: march 9, 2007 march 28, 2007 august 18, 2007 goodyear: june 23, 2006 january 3, 2007 firestone: november 02, 2006 receipts the morning of september 15, 2007. he contacted me around 11:15 am to inform me that the engine replacement ...

2 weeks after the 60,000 service (at 63,500 k)i had my catalytic converter replaced. at that time, the dealer said i needed the transfer case seal replaced ($800). that was not the real problem, the bearings were defective- i need a new transfer case (rebuild $900). but no parts are available so need to buy new transfer case from nissan ($2500). definitely a 2003 murano manufacture defect. *tr

Heard noise from engine compartment under low rpm range. took vehicle to local nissan dealer for inspection of problem and mechanic could not duplicate but was advised by shop mechanic about worn drive belt. vehicle is @ 34,000 miles. upon investigation at home from top of engine bay, i noticed ac/alternator idler pulley was vibrating and rotating of axis to the crack pulley. i investigated online at www.nissanmurano.org for similar problems. i found a series of reports that the bracket that holds the idle pulley was broken and causes cutting into the adjustment arm and causing the noise (eventually failing). returned vehicle to the dealer and informed dealer of idler pulley problem researched online and request belt service. when mechanic removed the belt, the idler pulley assembly was found to be broken. i believe this is a serious design issue and nissan should provide a better design and recall a $16 part. potential issues of failure of pulley: 1) nearby vicinity of the radiator coolant return hose can cut by broken bracket and can cause engine to overheat. 2) could lead to an alternator not providing energy to the car and a more serious consequences. *tr updated 01/11/08. *lj updated *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle loses power. the vehicle is able to be restarted after approximately 5-10 seconds. the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally accelerates on its own, without even depressing the accelerator pedal. the dealer stated that a valve body needed to be replaced. the current and failure mileages were 65,000.

2003 nissan murano. consumer states engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle lost all power. *tgw the consumer was able to gradually steer the vehicle to the emergency lane. after numerous attempts, he was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostic test revealed fuel pump failure. the consumer stated this was not the first time the engine abruptly shut off. the first incident happened in july 2007. but, the vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. prior to the first two incidents, the engine stalled on may 10, 2010. after numerous attempts, the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they determined the crank sensor was faulty. the consumer stated there have been other repairs such as: alternator failure, the passenger door locks routinely malfunctioned during extreme heat, the driver's power seat malfunctioned, the motor mounts were cracked, the axles were loose, and the intake hose failed. *jb

Nissan murano 2003 service engine check lightcame on and vehicle slowed down on the freeway and i had to find a shoulder after an overpass bridge to pull over for my safe and for my 2 toodlers children. i check the recall on the internet for this and it was a recall back in 2003 that i did not recieve a notice in the mail. i call a car dealer and denying me for the recall. i call the consumer affair customer service and 7/2/2007 and case is pending. i feel so unsafe to drive this vehicle because since 2003 this vehicle has five recalls such as gas tank, set belt, engine and engine cooling, transmission nut not tighten enough and alternator.*ak

Recall on some 2003 nissan murano cam sensors. my vin does not fall under this recall but is having the exact same issues that the cam sensor recall states. if this is the case then all 2003 nissan muranos should be covered. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano with 47k miles. the belt tensioner bracket (also called idler pulley bracket) broke. when the bracket failed, it cut one of the coolant hoses and damaged the serpentine belt. this could have caused damage / failure to the engine. all service to my vehicle has been done by authorized nissan dealers only. i believe the failure of this bracket was due to improper design / manufacture. i have seen reports of the same problem reported by murano owners on www.freshalloy.com and www.nissanmurano.org. nissan refused to cover the replacement of this failed part under their engine / power train warranty. *nm

Experienced clicking sound and subsequent loss of power while driving in mountainous area. 2003 murano was completely disabled with what turned out to be complete failure of cvt transmission in nissan dealer maintained vehicle with 77,000 miles on odometer. at this point, nissan has offered no goodwill help in replacing $5000 cvt transmission, citing outside of 60,000 mile drive train warranty. reliability of cvt technology in 2003 model is questionable , if complete failure on cvt is normal wear and tear at 77,000 miles. with exception of replacing two radiators and this cvt failure, i have had been very happy with vehicle. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 70 mph on dry asphalt roads, the vehicle stalled completely. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road, where it was able to be restarted after a few minutes. there were no warnings prior the stalling. the vehicle was not seen by a dealer, however the manufacturer was notified. there was a nhtsa recall# 03v455000, pertaining to the engine and engine cooling. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.

I purchase this vehicle on sept 9, 2005 with 28,158 miles from checkered flag auto dealer for my wife. i started having issues in june 2006 around 38k miles. my wife was stop at a red light on interstate 264 exit ramp on her way home from work. according to my wife, the red light turned green and the murano hesitate on acceleration then started accelerating slowly. after about 3 feet from the light the murano started jerking, rpm was raving high but the car wasn't moving then promptly speed up and shutoff in the middle of traffic, she tried restarting the vehicle but it would not turn over and the check engine light came on. the murano was towed home and the following day i brought it to the nissan dealership for repair. after about an hour the tech said my rubber intake vibrated off and charged me to put it back on. (now there's a recall for that, i wonder if it's too late to get a refund. nhtsa campaign number: 09v169000) a bad position camshaft sensor was the cause for the check engine light. i did not have the money to replace the camshaft position sensor at the time but when i did, replacing the sensors did not fix the check engine light. the murano is still having the same problem after 6 years. i still owe $11k and i can't wait to get rid of this nightmare. this was the worst financial decision i ever made for my family. it kills (it might really kill me in traffic) me to know my wife and daughters do not have a dependable means of getting to daycare and work while i am deployed protection my country. i contacted nissan many time and in a nutshell i was told too bad, i should call back when i want to purchase a new vehicle. *tr

Driving our 2003 nissan murano and car started to overheat. took it to the dealer who said the radiator was cracked. car has 72,000 miles with all scheduled maintenance done. called nissan na to see if others were experiencing the same problem and they have none reported. denied to help due to excessive miles. *nm

I bought my suv new in june 2003. a month after it started shutting off as if it was out of gas. the dealer stated that nothing was wrong with it. they took it for a week and "fixed" the problem after my insistence. a month later the radio and all the power sockets in my car started kicking out and i went through a box of 300 fuses. again, the dealer said that there was nothing wrong. the scariest problem is that my car will just stall out in stop and go traffic. i told them of this problem 18 months after i got the car. it was still under warranty. they stated that there was nothing wrong with the car and that i needed the mile service to be done as well as a transmission flush. this was done for $500 and the problem still occurred. i recently found out that it is a throttle body that the car needs. the part is $160. the service is $2000. i have been telling them that i had this problem for three years. it was just diagnosed, by a mechanic other than nissan due to my fear after a near accident. i was trying to make a left hand turn and the car would not drive or move. i was in the intersection and my daughter was in the back seat. my foot was to the floor on the pedal. i screamed out of the impending accident. the oncoming car unaware of my dilemma slowed down and dipped to the other lane but not after blowing the horn at me. the catalytic converter was replaced twice in a 2 year period. this is ridiculous. by the way the car was recalled 3 times in a three year period. i need help. i have spent $7000 in repairs to the car since i bought it. i have all the receipts from nissan for the service. *tr

2003 murano radiator and transmission malfunctioned.***no answer required***.*mr the alternator was replaced after the alternator light illuminated on the dash. when accelerating suddenly the vehicle would hesitate. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving various speeds or making a turn, the vehicle would suddenly stall for several seconds and then accelerate. the failure was very inconsistent. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions, but the failure still persists. the current mileage was 100,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.

I have a 2003 nissan murano sl. i was getting an oil change and noticed a discharge in my radiator overflow. i asked the guy to drain the radiator and reservoir and refill it with fresh antifreeze. the discharge returned and the car became disabled in a busy intersection, with no warning light prior. i had it towed to the dealer and they seemed to know exactly the issue. the transmission fluid had mixed with the radiator coolant?! they charged me $1265.76 and said it wasn't covered because i was beyond 36,000 miles. the radiator looks new and i just have to take their word for this, even though they can't show me the problem. since they were so quick to identify this problem, i have to think they are seeing it a lot and maybe this should be a recall. i took the old radiator with me and still have it. your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. *nm

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving 50 mph. the vehicle would not restart and was towed to an authorized dealer, where it was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure began to recur a few months later. the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer and the transmission was repaired. the failure continued. the vehicle was since been back to the dealer on numerous occasions, but they were unable to remedy the failure. the transmission was replaced, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Suv pulls to the side when steering wheel lightly released. brought to dealer 3x but cannot fix, says run for !k miles and see but still recurs. driver side window makes squeaky noise when open, dealer changed window runner but still noisy. engine seems to choke when driven after parking uphill, dealer said removed some air bubbles in gas tank but still recurs. right front shock feels dribbling when driven at highway speeds, dealer cant find any problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated the rear differential of the vehicle failed and oil was leaking into the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was told that the rear differential was worn. the dealer also stated that the oil leak caused the pistons to become dry, which were destroyed. the dealer advised the contact that the pistons and the differential needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 46,015.

The service engine light came on and the vehicle stalled. the dealer stated the crank shaft senor burned up.. the alternator and the control module has been replaced. *jb the crank shaft sensor has been replaced multiple times by dealer. *tc

Nhtsa recall campaign 03v455000: position sensor weld; while traveling 80 to 100 mph for a minimum of five minutes, the vehicle lost acceleration but maintained speed. the gas gauge moved losing a quarter tank of gas. the vehicle experienced radio signal and volume fluctuation along with the gas gauge not going pass 3/4 full. the dealership was unable to duplicate or remedy the cause. the consumer experienced the same failure as the position sensor recall. *jb *nm

I bought a 2003 nissan murano 6 days ago. as i dropped my child off at day care, and went back to the vehicle, my car was smoking and radiator fluid was leaking everywhere. they said something had pierced my radiator. i had only driven about 1/2 a mile and saw or felt nothing, don't know if it's a defect or road hazard. *jb
