Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2003 Nissan Murano

I own a 2003 nissan murano sl with about 101,000 miles. after about 20 minutes driving i get the lagging issue where i step on the gas pedal after a complete stop and nothing happens, then all of sudden after 5 seconds the car accelerates dangerously! my wife drives this car and she's also pregnant. i'm afraid that one day this problem will happen, and she would accelerate after the lagging issue only to hit someone in front of her and cause a major accident. i'm also afraid when she tries to make a left turn during the lag someone might hit her causing an accident. this manufacture need to recognize this is a safety issue, and they need to have a safety recall on these vehicles. *tr

2003 nissan murano (2 wd) hesitates with no response to the throttle at low speed. for example, when accelerating from a stop sign or in traffic. after about 3 or 4 seconds, the car lurches violently forward. problem has been consistent for the past year. causes difficult and unsafe driving condition in good or bad weather (wheels will spin violently when there is snow on the road as the car finally responds to the throttle input after 3 or 4 seconds). finally had enough after driving in bumper to bumper traffic in nyc yesterday and almost rear-ending the truck in front of me several times! *tr

2003 nissan murano. this is a recurring problem. i've had my murano for about 2.5 years, and for the past 1.5 years have had acceleration problems. after pushing on the gas for a couple of seconds, the engine doesn't respond, but then it surges forward at a high rate. there have been multiple times where i've been sitting in the middle of the intersection and the engine will stall, causing me to be stuck with the engine not responding - even though i'm pushing on the gas. i've taken the vehicle to 4 different mechanics, including 2 nissan dealerships, and none have been able to diagnose the problem. there seem to be certain things that fix it for a short period of time, and then it returns just a couple of months later. i've read online and this problem is not an anomaly. many others are having the same issue. fortunately, i am selling my car, but lost thousands of dollars in repair and diagnostic time because no one could understand what is wrong with this lemon. less than 5000 miles ago, the dealership told me that i needed a new transmission, and i took it to a private body shop, they flushed the tranny fluid, and it seemed to drive fine for the next 5000 miles. now, i am having similar problems. since it is a special tranny (cvt), it would cost anywhere between $5000-6500 to replace it, which is more than half of what the car is worth. besides that, i've read on blogs that some people get the transmission fixed, and then they continue to have the problem! fortunately, i am selling my murano due to a big move, but i had to take a loss on it because of this problem. nissan needs to own this issue. *tr

Cvt transmission needed to be replaced in a 2003 nissan murano with 85000 miles. nissan refused any assistance for the repair. *tr

The solenoid pressure valve in my 2003 nissan murano failed at 81,100 miles. it runs fine on the highway but when you transition to city driving at each stop it will loose power and the car will barely coast through the intersection, then it will catch and accelerate very quickly. the check engine light was not on when this occurred. i contacted the dealer who said they could do nothing since the service engine light was not on. i took it to 2 other auto repair places who were able to retrieve information stored on the computer, which stated it was the solenoid pressure valve (the light was still not on at this point). i learned from several mechanic shops that this is a common problem with this vehicle but they do not make the part that needs to be fixed, they only sell a "valve body kit" and quoted me $2000 for this repair. however, they also stated that there is a 25-50% chance that this repair will not be effective and i would then have to fully replace the transmission for an additional $5000+. luckily there were no injuries because of this problem but i find it unacceptable that nissan knows about this problem but only requires an absurd amount of money to fix it. i made a large investment in nissan based on their reputation for reliability and have been greatly let down. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle did not pick up speed after a stop. approximately ten seconds later, the vehicle accelerated without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the failure recurred frequently. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 09v169000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Cvt transmission problem in 2003 nissan murano. car will not move when step on accelerator, then suddenly lurches forward at much higher than anticipated speed, especially in stop and go traffic. this is dangerous, as i have nearly run into several cars because of this problem. nissan requires replacement transmission for $5,000 at car owner's expense - this is an unaffordable requirement for safety. nissan knew about this problem, and refuses to do anything about it. they should be required to recall the cars and fix this safety hazard!!! *tr

My problem started when i was towing a trailer.after about a half hour of traveling on an expressway at high speed 50 to 55 mph, i would notice a drastic loss of power. i would be in the passing lane attempting to pass a slow moving vehicle and i would lose power to the point i would have to decelerate and back off and get back in behind the slow moving vehicle. this would create a very dangerous situation on the fast moving highway. i would have to then pull over and stop to allow the vehicle to cool and i could then continue for another half hour or so. i brought my vehicle into the nissan dealerships in fort myers florida and clearwater florida but they were never able to diagnose my problem. i sold my trailer to avoid the danger of towing. ...then more recently i started experiencing a similar problem without towing a trailer...when encountering stop and go traffic on an expressway my murano will not respond to the gas pedal for about an inch or two then suddenly the car will lurch forward all at once. this is very dangerous as if i am not careful i could rearend the car in front of me. as the previous problem it doesn't do it all the time and the dealer tells me they cant fix it unless it is doing it. i am perplexed by this when i went on line and found all the people with 03 muranos that are having the same problems as i am. there is no single date of incident this is an ongoing thing. *tr

I have a nissan murano 2003. on july 3,2009 after i stopped on a red light the car stopped without warning, it wouldn't go into gear i tried to accelerate and it would not respond. after couple tries the car when back into gear and i was able to drive back home at about 5 miles per hour. before this incident the car did no show any sign of defect, there were no light or warning on the dash board and even as it stopped the engine was still running and everything in the car was working (air conditioner, lights, radio, etc) i took the car to the mechanic and they said is something wrong with the transmission. i was fortunate to be in a residential area, at a time were traffic was no so busy. at the time off this incident my entire family was in the car with me. if would been in a highway a sudden stop could have cause tragic consequences for my family and i. at this time i am looking at a 6,000 repair bill, and no answer from nissan to take responsibility of this problem. *tr

My 2003 nissan murano has failed to maintain speed or accelerate past anywhere from 5 to 40 mph even when flooring pedal. almost caused an accident on interstate with children in car! took to nissan replaced throttle control module computer over $700. 1 week later it is doing the same thing again. problem started at about 67k miles on car. took to dealer a week or two after it originally happened. *tr

Transmission. *tr

2003 nissan murano has a loud "wreeee" sound upon cranking it up; however within about 10 min. of driving it quiets down. when the car is stopped and you begin to accelerate the car has a 3-5 sec stall and then leaps forward. when i was at an intersection my car did this and threw me into oncoming traffic. i was fortunate that the driver of the other car swerved in time to miss me, but it was a very close call. *tr

My 2003 nissan murano began driving funny. it seemed like something was wrong with the car when i accelerated. the day before we were scheduled to bring it in for repair, my wife was driving on the highway and the car would no longer accelerate. we first towed the car to firestone, not knowing it was the transmission. firestone was unable to repair the car, and the car was sent to nissan, where we were told the car needs a new transmission. the car had only 70,000 miles on it, and there is no reason why the transmission should have failed. upon further research i found plenty of complaints about the 2003-2004 transmissions failing in the murano. we are now stuck with a $5500 bill we can not afford to pay. *tr updated 08/20/09.*jb

When car is driven in stop&go traffic on a 70f warm day the acceleration stops working. the acceleration becomes delayed and then the car surges forward after a 3 second delay. very dangerous. very common problem with this car & year. nissan recommends an expensive transmission repair - $5k. *tr

The power on my 2003 nissan murano periodically cuts out during stop and start traffic, or hot conditions. nothing happens for a few seconds and then the vehicle lurches forwards suddenly. this happened twice last year (around 100k miles), and has happened 4 times in the last month (116k miles). this lack of power has led to numerous dangerous situations where i have been stranded in front of oncoming traffic, or slipping down a hill, and the unpredictable surge of acceleration is also a major problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. on april 15, 2009, the contact attempted to accelerate past 65 mph, but the vehicle would not move any faster. the vehicle then began to idle and slow down on its own, as if it slipped into neutral. the motor continued to run and the contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. he turned off and restarted the vehicle without difficulty. there had been no failures with the vehicle prior to this incident. the dealer stated that a new transmission was needed. the failure mileage was 88,000.

1. there were no clear indications of the event or no warnings or indicator lights. 2. the 2003 nissan murano with 84k miles loses all power and acceleration when the accelerator is depressed. i found this out the hard way in making a left turn after coming to a stop and then turned in front of traffic that was far enough away to make the turn. however since the car would only move at no recordable velocity i was a sitting duck for oncoming traffic. 3. the car was taken to an independent mechanic who had it for 2 weeks and couldn't fix it. they then took it to a nissan dealer who said the transmission valve body would need to be replaced at 1800$ plus labor. then the next day they changed their minds and they came back the next day and said they would not replace this part without me signing a waiver washing there hands if this were to occur again. basically not warranting their work or the part. they also could not guarantee the new transmission would happen to go out again after a certain amount of miles. so at the dealer the car sits. 4. i will not drive this car and put myself, my family or other motorists at risk. this is a serious problem and needs to be addressed. there are alot of these cars on the road. it is just a matter of time before something serious happens. *tr

My 2003 nissan murano awd had 88,300 miles on it, and began vibrating while i was on a 4-lane road. as i tried to pull it off into a parking lot on the left, it came out of gear, and stopped in the center of a busy intersection. it would not go back into gear, and would not rev, but it was idling. the check engine light never came on. it was a dangerous situation, and i called 911, because i was afraid that my stalled car would cause an accident. then 2 men offered to help push the car into the parking lot. they did, but they put themselves in harm's way in the still busy intersection. two nissan dealerships diagnosed the car as needing a new transmission, and i have had to replace it at a cost of $6000. *tr

Needed to replace a transmission part called the "value body" in a 2003 nissan murano. the repair was recommended by the nissan dealer and will cost $1795 total parts & labor. apparently the dealer has replaced many transmission parts called the value body in the past here in san antonio, texas. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving at a speed 35 mph, there was an unusual foul odor emitting from the air compartments as well as an abnormal noise from underneath the vehicle. suddenly, there was a loud pop and the engine began smoking. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was informed that the cvt transfer case was busted, which was replaced at that time. the failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

Driving on the freeway and began to take the exit . stopped at the light to turn left and the car had no power. the gas pedal was to the floor and nothing happened. i turned the car off , sat a few minutes, started the car up and crept into the intersection, trying to cross the highway, made it to the side of the road, turned the car off again, sat about 5 minutes and then again started it up. it traveled maybe a half a block, stopped, turned the key off, sat in the highway (very dangerous) and preceded to travel another block to my destination. parked the car and called a tow truck to get it back home and to the nissan dealer. he has just called and said it is the transmission at a cost of 4500.00 dollars. i can't believe it, the car has only 87000 miles one it. after reading many discussion groups on the internet i find that alot of owners of the 2003 murano have had the same problem. we called nissan and they will not do anything for us. we need to ban together and get some action. i don't know how a company can get away with this. too many incidents to ignore. *tr

After being in stop and go traffic, my 2003 nissan murano se 2wd does not accelerate properly. once the gas pedal is pressed, the car barely starts to move, but the tachometer continues to increase. at about 3000 rpm, or roughly 1-2 seconds under normal acceleration from a complete stop, the murano then lurches forward. this is very dangerous and happens when the car has experienced long periods of stop and go traffic or being idle. i took it to nissan and they claimed to have fixed the problem by changing the throttle body chamber. the murano did not have any more problems until about 4 months after the repair. since then, it has been acting up as traffic conditions warrant. i can "reset" or stop the lurching from occurring by turning off the ignition and then turning it back on. the problem is, i'm usually in traffic when i do this, and the problem resumes about 5-10 minutes later. if i get away from the traffic, stop and let the car sit for a bit, then turn the engine back on and drive in normal traffic, then the problem does not occur. *tr

I have owned 2003 nissan murano for 5 years and have 110,000 miles on it..it has now some transmission problems....when starting from a stop, the transmission hesitates and then lurches forward. this is dangerous as if at a stop light, you step on gas and nothing happens....then suddenly the car lurches forward violently.. this is happening more frequently, and is becoming very scary. *tr

I have a nissan 2003 murano, when in a stopped position, the car will fail to accelerate until a few seconds later, which can cause a safety hazard when in traffic. i am not the only owner of this type of vehicle that has this issue, there are many of us. i had it check and told i needed to have the cvt replaced. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano at 65,000 miles the cvt transmission case cracked in half. the car was inoperable and left me stranded. after thousands of dollars in replacing the cvt transmission the transfer case has cracked again at 120,000 miles. i have contacted nissan usa and they have persuaded me to pay for diagnostic work (although a large visible crack in the transfer case is quite obvious) and then proceeded to deny all reimbursements. this is a serious issue with hundreds on complaints online, an official nissan tsb, yet no recall from nissan or nhtsa. *tr

I own a 2003 nissan murano. i currently has 67,000 miles. over the last month i have had major issues with acceleration, the vehicle loses power or doesn't respond at all when pressing the gas pedal. after a 1-3 second pause the transmission finally engages sporadically and "clunks" very hard. i have been told by the dealer that the transmission needs to be replaced. the nissan dealer has informed me that there is no repair of this cvt transmission. this problem is occurring every time that i drive the vehicle and is very dangerous. this issue has happened several times in busy traffic and has caused several near collisions. i am very disappointed. i have never had to replace a transmission under 100,000 miles. *tr

I am one of probably thousands of nissan murano owners with the cvt transmission with the same problem. i drive a congested freeway and at least twice, sometimes three times a week, in stop and go traffic the car starts to hesitate when i step on the accelerator. i actually have found that "feathering" it helps from having it jerk forward as i step on the accelerator, but it is still extremely dangerous. this is continuous when i come to a stop or almost to a stop until, as others have mentioned, i have an opportunity to turn the ignition off. difficult to turn the ignition off while driving in stop and go traffic on the freeway. it goes away for a while after i turn it off, but if the driving conditions are the same, it happens again. i took it to a mechanic who stated that the problem is a sensor inside the transmission, but there is no way to fix it. the transmission would require replacement, as there are no re-builds available and nissan does not have parts for this transmission available for re-builds. the quote for replacement is over $8,000. i believe this is approximately what the car is worth. this is an extremely dangerous situation, and i am concerned that someone will be injured or worse as a result of it, if it has not already happened. *tr

At 61000 miles my murano right after i bought it started to have a problem with acceleration at stop-n-go traffic. also it has a burning rubber smell. the replacement of the transmission is very expensive. plus the car only has 61,000 miles. *tr

Transmission failure at 52,000 miles. 2003 nissan murano. *tr

Nissan murano 2003, when stopping in traffic or trying to change lanes the car does not respond. this happens every day. took to the nissan dealer it has to do with transmission problems. this has been happening for the past few moths now. apparently the 2003 murano is experiencing this problem. please help. the coute was over $5,000. also the radio they installs in this cars have a problem with the cd changer. for some reason the right side fails to sound. they explain its a problem with all this radios. also called clarion, the manufacturer an also said the same thing. *tr

In stop-n-go traffic, no initial acceleration when pedal pressed to floor. then car would suddenly jump forward. caused multiple instances of nearly crashing into cars in front of me or not making it through intersections. brought to dealer multiple times and nothing was done. finally, no acceleration at all and car now won't move forward. was told entire transmission needs replacing for $6500...... at only 100,000 miles! a transmission should last longer than that and it should have been fixed when i first started complaining and seeing symptoms. *tr

The cvt transmission in my 2003 nissan murano has failed (135,000 miles) and the dealer (norris nissan of ellicott city, md) says the repair will cost over $6,000. i have read on the edmonds car chat site that there are thousands of similar complaints. this is potentially a very dangerous situation as well as an expensive one. *tr

During the past 12 months, 2003 murano was taken to several nissan dealers for noise emitting from wheel or transmission's was told that this was a tire rod problem, which was replaced. the problem continued and was told that it was a strut problem. next, it was in need of tires. finally, after the warranty has expired, it's the transmission. this problem will now cost over $5000 to fix. *tr

Nissan murano 2003 awd, hesitate in traffic, after engine gets hot, car does not want go forward at red lights, almost got rear ended because car would not move, took to the dealer, said they could not find anything wrong with car. *tr

The transmission has been problematic from day one. i have kept up regular service at it has now completely failed. it is a 2003 nissan murano with 109k miles on it. *tr

2003 nissan murano 80,000 miles transmission failure. repair bill of $4,000. *tr

I purchased a 2003 nissan murano with 23,000 miles on it in march of 2004. after the purchased i took it to a dealer for the 100 point inspection and was told everything was fine. by the end of that year for the first time my car failed to accelerate. i thought nothing of it since it only happened once and went and got the spark plugs changed. next by the summer of 2005 it happened again. i explained to the dealer and they said you need your fuel injectors cleaned. i got them cleaned and it went away again but every once and a while it would slow down during acceleration. i made it to 2006 and all of a sudden the check engine light came on. the dealer said i need to change my catalytic converter bank 1. he showed me which one and replace it. a week later the same thing happened again(check engine light). i was told the wrong converter was replaced. i purchased the other one and everything is good for a while. then the slow acceleration got even worse. the dealer couldn't find anything wrong. needless to say i'm now out of warranty. i then took it to another mechanic that wasn't a dealer and he showed me a technical bulletin about slow acceleration. i brought it to nissan's attention and they said it could be a possibility. the told me i need to replaced the valve body. i bought it and they put it on with even worse results. now they said i need a transmission. i asked how come they didn't check this out if it was a known problems. they said we need the look for the problem. they know about the bulletin but since its not a recall they don't have to check for it. why isn't this problems a recall if its known. are they waiting for your car to come off warranty to check. now i have to look for a transmission but i'll probably have the same problem eventually. please stop this corruption. *tr

There are two problems with the car that seem to keep happening over and over again, broken boot struts, but the major is with the acceleration/cvt system. it all of a sudden gives no gas when you push and then surges forward at a high speed which is very very dangerous- after reading many others posts it seems that this is a very common problem for the 03' murano, for a vehicle that has a little over 65,000 miles just had the major 60k service done and has had all regular service visits by dealer and i am very concerned for my safety and this definitely seems like a recall problem- replaced crankshaft position sensors, sensor asm, camshaft, gasket sill ring rubb, o rings, etc. *tr

My 2003 murano is now clocking 133,000 miles. i notice a problem within the last 20,000 miles whenever i get stuck in stop and go traffic. i would step on the gas and nothing would happen for a few seconds and suddenly it takes off. i had to slam on my brake to prevent smacking into the car in front. this problem continues throughout the stop and go traffic ordeal. my dealer informed me that he is not aware of this problem and suggested a transmission service. this problem has continued but always after driving the car for a while or when i am in stop and go traffic. this is a safety issue. i understand from the dealer that it is a pressure sensor problem that is typical for model that i have. the problem is the cost repair is half of the value of the car. *tr

Transmission issue. car will not move more than 2-3 miles per hour for ~100 feet, then "jumps" into gear. occurs with engine warm. very dangerous at traffic lights and stop signs. *tr

We drive a 2003 nissan murano awd. after stop and go traffic, the vehicle will "stall" in traffic (rpms drop to idle, and the car stops moving) when the accelerator pedal is pressed. within 2-5 seconds the engine will rev up (presumable as far as it goes, but we take our foot off the pedal by then), and the vehicle will lurch forward and drive normally until we stop again. by the nature of city driving this often happens in intersections and other like dangerous places. i've asked my wife not to drive it in traffic anymore as i think this is dangerous. this happens repeatedly now at 66k miles. we've taken this to two dealers who have recommended everything from replacing the valve body to replacing the entire transmission. *tr

When the car first started acting up i was on the interstate on my way to work. it all of a sudded started stalling. i had to press the driving peddal all the way down and then it would take off with a very hard jolt. this would happen off and on especially if i was in stop and go traffic or came to a stop sign or stop light. the car would stall before taking off. i took it to the delearship and they kept it for three days and said they could find nothing. this is when the transmission was under warranty up to 120,000 miles. they said the car would have to do it while in ther shop or they could do nothing. i just found it so hard to believe that the car showed no signes of doing anything that i described while they had it and drove it for three days. well of course i got the car back and it was still doing the same thing. i took it back to them and they told me that it was the transmission and the repair on it alone was going to cost me 3600.00 all by itself. the car was doing the very same thing when i took it in to them the first time but surprisingly after the warranty was off they all of a sudden found the problem. somebody really needs to look into all of these complaints and get these situations under warranty so that these cars can be fixed properly. its not fair to take the car to the dealership about a problem that could have been fixed under warranty to take it back to them for the exact same thing and they tell you that the repair is no longer under warranty and you now have to pay for it.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact noticed transmission fluid leaking from the transfer case. he had not noticed any issues, such as difficulty shifting. the dealer stated that the transfer case inner seal needed to be replaced. he spoke with the manufacturer who started a case and stated that they would get back to him with the resolution. the current mileage was approximately 49,700 and failure mileage was approximately 49,000. updated 11/12/08 *bf updated 11/13/08. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact took her vehicle in for an oil change and was informed that the seals failed and caused oil to leak. an authorized dealer repaired the vehicle and stated that the transfer case failed. the contact would have to pay $3,100 for the repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. she called the manufacturer, but has not received a response. the failure mileage was 81,000 and current mileage was 92,000. updated 07/14/09. *lj the inner seals were leaking. updated 07/15/09.*jb

Previously in love with my 2003 nissan murano, within the last 4 months (100,000 miles) i have had so many problems. throttle body, cv boots, axle seals, front and back motor mounts, radiator, and most recently needs a 4,000 transmission repair. just as others have reported, my car gets to the point where it will not accelerate, even if i push the accelerator to the floor, then it suddenly lunges forward. i am so disappointed and refuse to spend another dollar on this car, which is falling apart at an exponential speed. this is only a 6year old car! *tr

Purchased this vehicle with 20,000 miles on it, kept well maintained, drove 90% highway miles mostly commuting to care for elderly person. front struts leaked and failed without warning at approx 60,000 miles, then had loss of power, transmission/driveshaft began "howling noise" and we could smell faint oil smell, took to dealer were told it was the transmission valve body which they fixed under warranty, that they could detect no oil smell or source for same, and that cvt howl was just the normal sounds of that type of transmission. we specifically asked whether there are any known problems or failures with drivetrain assemble components, because we heard of many other strut failures by murano owners after our struts failed prematurely. we were told there were no reports of any trouble, not to worry about it. the howl never went away, and the oil smell came and went. sept. 4, we pulled out of our driveway drove about 50 yards down the street and hear a horrible thumping noise, like a flat drive, we stopped immediately and checked, no flat tire. we started the car again and drove a few feet, same noise. we parked the car and had it towed to dealer. we are told the transfer case "grenaded" that we must have been driving it hard (we were going about 10 mph), that it would be $4000 to repair! the tech asked if we had been hearing any unusual noises before the failure, we told him we had, and we had reported it to the dealer when it was under warranty, but they refused to help with the repair costs. i checked on the internet and spent 6 hours reading thousands of similar transfer case failure stories on muranos with all levels of mileage on them, many had been told, like we were, that warning signs were nothing when their vehicles were still under warranty. the dealer also tried to charge us $2800.00 for the part, which we found for $1518.00 from another nissan dealer. this is a known problem, has caused vehicles to stop in traffic and should be a recall defect. thank you *tr

My 2003 nissan murano has transmission problems. after driving a couple of hours on highway, it will not pull up a hill, pass a vehicle, especially if i press on the accelerator hard, it jerks, slows down and almost stops. it only does this when warm/hot. it won't do it when cold, so the nissan dealer can not see the problem. it seems to be getting worse with age. it is a very dangerous condition. i dare not let anyone drive it in the family except me. nissan should replace the transmission. it is obviously a common defect from what i read on the internet. *tr

Transmission problems with 2003 nissan muranos. very widespread. car needs new valve body and possibly new transmission. up to $7000 to fix cars that may only be worth twice that. *tr

Was driving on the highway at 75mph (normal speed for interstate travel in montana) when our murano started run at 4000 rpm abnormally. it ran at this rate for awhile then it felt like the transmission was loosing power and i had to take it off cruise control because it couldn't keep up and maintain constant speed. vehicle start to jump in speed and then loose power and continued to do this until i pulled the vehicle off the highway. when i had stopped i tried accelerating to get back onto the highway with no success. i had the accelerator pedal to the floor and had no power. i turned the vehicle off/on and had slight acceleration enough to pull back onto the highway but almost got hit because transmission wouldn't accelerate properly and fast enough. took murano back to dealer to check out engine/transmission and they said after conducting diagnostic it needed a new transmission. i said the vehicle only has around 65,000 miles i've never heard of a 5 year old car needing a new transmission. what's worse they said is the transmission has to be ordered directly from nissan and cost $4200! total cost for the repair would be $5600!!! this is no small repair problem! a 2003 vehicle with only 65k miles on it should not need a new transmission!!! nissan should be held accountable for such a manufacturers defect that had the potential to kill my family on that highway if all power had been lost suddenly cruising at 75mph in traffic!!!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated she looses power when you she is sitting still. when she accelerates the gas pedal does not move. the suddenly it surges and takes off. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and was told the failure occurred from a new valve problem which relates to the transmission and they have to replace the valve. this has been a continuous failure for over a year. the manufacture was notified that her vehicle is out of warranty and there is no recall that includes her vin number. that failure mileage was 121,700. bl
