Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2003 Nissan Murano

There are two incidences. the first one was the transfer case which cost $3500 and the shop didn't know what could have caused it he said that they just go which i don't believe there has to be a reason. and now about two months and 2k miles later the rear differential exploded. the car is currently in the shop and at a different shop so hopefully they can find out what went wrong. i did a little research and was told that the rear diff shouldn't have a problem till at least 150,000 miles. also the service manual doesn't say anything about service or maintain of the transfer case or the rear diff. both should be covered up until 100,000 miles. and on god knows how much it will cost to fix this new problem. i will never buy another nissan.

Upon normal acceleration from a stop sign onto a major road with a 35 mph speed limit, there was a loud "pop" and the car lost power and could only move at a slow crawl to the shoulder of the road. the car could rev, but very little power was getting to the wheels. there was a small oil spill under the rear axle of the car. the car had to be towed to our mechanic (we did not take it to a nissan dealer because we thought the car was out of warranty) and the police demanded speedy dry to be put down to cover the small oil spill, which cost 45 dollars and was not covered by insurance. the mechanic determined that the continuously variable transmission (cvt) and its casing needed to be replaced, at a cost of $4922. after doing some research online, we learned that nissan automatically extended the warranty from 5 years or 60,000 miles to 10 years and 120,000 miles, however, we received no notification from nissan that the warranty was extended, nor did we hear from them that cvt failure was common amongst this model year, as is apparent from the numerous complaints similar to ours. we performed all scheduled maintenance on the car, including replacing the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. we have reached out to nissan to see if they will reimburse us for the repair costs as part of their extended warranty and we are waiting to hear back from them.

While driving at 25 mph, suddenly we heard very loud 'bum, bum, bum' like noise. we stopped at near gas station, and the oil appeared beneath the rear of the car. the mechanic told us that the rear differential unit is split open in half. we were told that if that would happen at high speed the flying rear differential debris could puncture the nearby gas tank.

I just purchased a nissan murano yesterday and after just 10 minutes or so of driving i noticed that the acceleration is not exactly in sync with my pressure on the pedal. the previous owner also complained of this to the nissan dealer he bought it from. the dealer said it was the air intake and replaced it at no charge. shortly after my initial drive it did not accelerate even when the gas pedal was to the floor. today i entered a busy intersection to make a left hand turn and after the on coming traffic i pressed on the accelerator but no response rpms were study below 1000 like it was still idling. after several futile attempts pressing on the gas pedal i put the car in park then back to drive hit the gas but again no acceleration. at this time i am in the middle of the intersection under the red light. there is another car behind me that is stuck in the intersection as well which makes a hard left to get around and barely avoids an accident. now with cars all around me i become almost frantic and i am a 52 year old man with plenty of driving experience and rarely panic. i decided to shut off the car and restart it (yes in the middle of a busy intersection under a red light blocking traffic i turn off the car and restart it). it took off immediately. tonight i read a nissan forum with many other nissan murano owners describing similar incidents. this is a very very serious flaw in the engineering under no circumstance should an automobile not accelerate when the pedal is pressed without some precursor event to warn the operator. this is a very serious problem and there should be a recall. i will contact my local nissan dealer to have it looked at and issue a complaint. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle would lose acceleration power while sitting in traffic. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure in the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000 and the current was 111,400.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle exhibited a loud, dragging metal noise from the front end. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the transmission transfer case. the manufacturer was contacted but advised that they would not assist with the repair because of the vehicle age and mileage. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 130,000.

I own a 2003 nissan murano. last august it began losing power while driving. it is like the car is being thrown into 1st gear. this has happened 12-18 times over the last 4 months. the crazy thing about these incidents is that no warning lights show up on the dash nor does the car give you any codes indicating that anything went wrong. two months ago i took it to rick hill nissan dealership and told them what was happening. he had the car a week and drove it 66 miles and couldn't get the car to duplicate what was happening to me. unfortunately, they wont work on the car unless is has a code showing up telling them what is wrong. this past week, i almost ran over my family as i was waiting on them to come out of a store. i proceeded to drive up to the store to pick them up when the car surged and the engine started racing. i had to slam on the brakes and throw the car in park to get it to stop. the engine and rpm's were still racing and 4,000 rpms. no codes were thrown and no lights on the dash again. 20 minutes later as we were coming home, the car lost power as if the transmission slipped into first gear and we creeped all the home at 5 mph, with me having the pedal to the floor. this time there were codes, but when the car was turned off it would not restart. i had it towed to the dealership and they told me it was the ipdm. 825 dollars for the fix. 51 miles later the car slips again and acts like it is thrown into first gear. no lights, no codes. after reading many complaints on the cvt transmission in the 2003 murano i have no doubt this is the problem. this defect has put my family in many dangerous situations in the past year. nissan increased the warranty for this transmission to 120,000 miles. this is not good enough. i took mine in with 118,500 but they said nothing was wrong, because they had no codes showing a problem. now with 128,000 i am screwed. this ...

Was driving on a highway and heard thumping sounds from the engine. slowed down towards the side and the noise started increasing. it sounded like someone hitting the engine with a sledge hammer. i parked the car on the side of the highway and looked under the hood and under the car. i saw something leaking. i got my car towed to the nearest dealer and they told me that it was my transfer case. cost to fix was close to $5,000. i contacted nissan for help and they informed me that they couldn't do anything. i asked if this problem was common and they replied no. i had the car fixed at my own expense and 14 months later the problem occurred again. warranty was for 12 months or 12,000 miles which ever came first. i was over by 2 months but mileage was under. they quoted me additional $3,000 to fix. i can not believe that this car has not been recalled for this problem. the car is still at the mechanics because i am still in shock of being forced to pay $8,000 for the same problem and within a little over a year. *tr

Vehicle would not respond to accelerator while in gear while attempting to accelerate from stop. engine would not rev, but was running. vehicle towed to dealer. dealer advised cvt transmission component called valve body had an internal failure and tcm would need reprogramming. vehicle has 126700 miles, purchased new. cvt warranty was extended by nissan from original 5 years 60000 to 10 years 120000. this vehicle's mileage is beyond this extended warranty period. however, major component failure of cvt is recognized by nissan by virtue of extension of original warranty. the extension is inadequate and nissan should be required to extend for longer time and mileage. mechanics have advised that valve body failures in transmissions are very rare. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle seized without warning. there was an unknown fluid leaking from the vents and smoke emitting from the transfer case. the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic shop where the contact was advised that the transfer case was defective and would need replacing. the contact stated she authorized the mechanic to replace the defective transfer case. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed but no further assistance was offered. the failure and current mileage was 112,000.

When you come to a complete stop and then press the accelerator down the car does not move initially. if you hold the accelerator down after a few seconds the car will start to move. this has happened 3 times in the last 6 months after driving the car for about 20-30 mins. in stop and go traffic. the next day everything works like it should. i have taken it to a nissan dealer and at first they could not even find a problem since they could not duplicate what i described. the second time i took it back they managed to get a service code related to the valve body on the transmission. nissan has a service bulletin issued related to this situation, which instructs the valve body to be replaced at a cost of $1700. since you never know when this delayed acceleration will occur it is very dangerous to enter or cross traffic when it occurs. *tr

2003 nissan murano. consumer states defective and unsafe transmission. consumer requests replacement at no cost to him *tgw the consumer stated he was assured he would have no problems with the replacement transmission. however, within 21 months, the transmission failed. the consumer was told the warranty had expired on the replacement transmission. *jb

I have a 2003 nissan murano. at approximately 81,000 miles i noticed a burning oil smell after driving. i had the car checked and the transfer case was out of oil. the service dept. resealed the transfer case under extended warranty. at about 96,000 miles i had the vehicle checked out before end of warranty and again the transfer case leaked out the oil and i had service on transfer case. the seals had to be redone, also under extended warranty. i have the car in now for routine service with transmission fluid flush and fill and because i am getting a strange ticking noise when accelerating. notified that cvt fluid leaking onto outside of transfer case. needs transmission seal redone. over $2000. i am getting the seal redone under transmission 120,000 warranty from nissan. dealership says i should get the transfer case seals redone but they are not covered under the transmission warranty and i cannot afford the close to $2000 extra this would cost. seems that the seals should last more than 8,000 miles as they seemed too after buying the vehicle new and not replacing them until after 50,000 miles. after reading many complaints about a pressure valve and other transmission issues i believe the transmission should be replaced as i am very concerned that just replacing the transmission forward seal(?) will not correct the leaking problems with the transmission transfer case and that the transmission will "go out" after the factory warranty. i believe that there is a problem with the transfer case/transmission in this year/model of vehicle and that nissan knows this. there should be a recall. *tr

While driving my 2003 nissan murano awd sl i suddenly loose acceleration, the engine will not rev and the rpm indicator is 0, the engine is still running, there are no warning light indicators. after several minutes the accelerator will re-engage and the car will accelerate again. this has happened 5 times in the last 2 weeks, took the car to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong, no codes issued. i have replaced in the past 3 years the transmission in the last 7 months the fuel pump, the catalytic converter, the o2 sensors have all been replaced. the dealer indicated that this not a problem they have been aware of and have no idea what it could be...sound like they are not being exactly forthcoming on this issue. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano. i have 115k miles and for the 5 months, i've had the same problem all others have reported, press the gas and the car doesn't move for a few seconds then jerks forward. could be very dangerous when in traffic and trying to change lanes. in fact, i only discovered this problem when i was in stop and go traffic lately. i took it to goodyear company, they charged me $69 to diagnose the problem and told me it's the transmission. something needs to be done since i am 100% sure nissan knows about this problem but is ignoring it. thank you. *tr

A well maintained nissan murano of 7 years started making loud thumping noises after less than 78k miles. our mechanic suspected transmission related issues, which occur frequently on murano and advised to take the vehicle to the nissan dealership. nissan mechanics pinpointed a faulty transfer case to be the cause of the noise. furthermore nissan indicated that it would be too dangerous to drive the vehicle due to the fact that if the transfer case failed completely during driving, it would cause the vehicle to come to an immediate halt, which if driving on the highway could cause a serious hazard. since the transfer case failure was imminent, it had to be replaced at a cost of $2650. further investigation on the internet indicates that transfer case failure in murano is common, however nissan has failed to address the issue and the potential hazards it may cause.

After driving a while in stop & go traffic the vehicle hesitates and doesn't accelerate when you depress the gas pedal. then after a few seconds the engine revs up and the vehicle lurches forward and sometimes stalls in traffic. once the vehicle stalls, it takes a long time before you can restart the engine. this situation happens almost every time i'm in heavy traffic, which is especially dangerous on the freeways and when making left turns at intersections. i've worked with my local nissan dealership but they haven't come up with a solution, and it's becoming very expensive for me to have them research the problem and not find a fix. *tr

2003 murano - when in stop and go traffic car will not accelerate for 5-10 seconds when pressing the gas pedal. dealership had my car for 2 days and first said it was the transmission but then nissan would not approve it to be replaced even under warranty. then told me it was the tcm that needed to be replaced for $1000.00. this is a very dangerous situation and nissan needs to step up to the plate and replace these faulty dangerous parts free of charge to the customer! instead of diagnosing improper things and charging the customer thousands of dollars for non-fixes. *tr

Car made horrible grinding noise; stopped working. towed to pok nissan and under extended warranty they replaced transfer case and rear differential. now here it is barely one year later and just over 12000 miles and the transfer case is leaking again. was told by an independent mechanic what the problem was and that nissan should make good. having reviewed several complaints filed with nhtsa of same problems i found it unbelievable that nissa fails to consider this as a recall or accept responsibility. *tt

This statement is in addition of numuras safety recalls. july 2008 on interstate 22 myrtle beach my 2003 murano stalled out with son and daughter. july 2009 it stalled out in whiteville nc. it stalled again. on both occasions nissan replaced a blown a blown fuse. nothing else. august 2010 traffic the murano stalled at 65 mph in heavy traffic nearly causing a ten car pile up. we were lucky. towed murano,to nissan of myrtle beach, fuel pump was replaced. on all the recalls mailed to us refer:these safety recalls could cause fire or crashes. my wife is afraid of our death trap of our 2003 murano. the fuel pump is not a recall, but if you look up complaints on fuel pumps and blown fuses you see i am not the only one my car is a death trap. i want a investigation done. *tr

After extended idle, the vehicle becomes unresponsive to fuel feed. when the gas pedal is depressed there is a hesitation (2-5 seconds) and then suddenly the vehicle will lurch forward. the problem temporarily goes away when the car is shut off for a few minutes. *tr

2003 nissan murano sl: the car would not respond to the accelerator. the engine would rev up, but the car would not move. then without warning, the car will go "into gear" and move. car would lose drive train power, but all other functions, radio, ac, steering would still work. the car simply would not go when the accelerator was pressed. then the transmission would work all of a sudden and then quit all of a sudden. *tr

After stopping at intersection i pressed the gas and car rolled into intersection. within a few seconds car took off like a bat out of ???. this was quite scary as a truck was approaching. this car has done this several times and lately this has become an everyday occurrence. this is quite dangerous because you are clueless to when it will happen. i thought the previous recall concerning the air intake was a solution. it is more than obvious that it is not. this is too dangerous to be ignored. i invite you to drive my car for a day and then maybe you will have something done about this. i noticed there are several more complaints filed but i do not see any resolution. nissan needs to recall these cars and fix this problem. extending the warranty is not a solution if the dealer is not willing to fix the car. please get this fixed before there is loss of life. *tr

Car looses power numerous times in stop and go traffic, almost caused me an accident while trying to turn left with an oncoming car. took it to nissan, they said it's because oil level was low. after oil change service, problem still exists. looks like it is a transmission failure but nissan denies it. *tr

Transmission appears to be slipping. odbii code is p0840, which states transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch a circuit malfunction. vehicle sometimes runs at 4-5 rpms at 70 mph. other times you press on the gas and nothing happen. this especially occurs going up hill, when you are stopped at the bottom. if you have a running start, it is not as noticeable. unsafe, to be driven in traffic. taken to dealership prior to warranty running. no problem was noted. now that i am 5,000 miles over extended warranty -- extended to 120,000 now i'm told i get the code above....estimate to repair is $3400. *tr

Bought a 2003 nissan murano new and have had a recurring problem with the transmission that the dealer refuses to repair under warranty. basically the car will not accelerate from a stop and then suddenly surges forward. the problem is intermittent and seems to mostly occur when the transmission is hot. sometimes it surges while driving at a steady speed. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer 4 times over a period of several years to have the problem repaired, but they have either said there is nothing wrong or that it needed a new air filter, but the problem has never been fixed and it continues to get worse. nissan sent an extended warranty to owners of these vehicles that states it covers transmission problems up to 120,000 miles, however the dealer won't honor it and wants a $2,000 deposit to order the parts before it will schedule the repair.i contacted nissan consumer affairs and they said the repair is covered, and i told the dealer this, but the dealer said nissan won't reimburse him so he won't make the repairs unless i pay, and pay up front, no less. i can't afford this and my vehicle is rapidly approaching the 120,000 warranty cut off and i have the feeling they are just stalling until the warranty runs out. the vehicle is dangerous to drive but i have no choice and i don't know whom to turn to. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano w/ 88k miles. when driving my nissan murano, there seems to be quite an issue with the acceleration and that it hesitates when i i step on the acceleration. the murano does not move forward for a few seconds, after stepping almost fully on the gas pedal. then all of a sudden it feels like the car catches back on and then the car jolts forward, letting the car finally move. this problem occurs sporadicly and actually on a left turn just yesterday, (7-10-11), the car just completely lost it's power. i am glad no accident occured, i was very lucky. i was able to turn to the side of the road and turn the car off and on. after i did that i was able to get the car into a parking lot so i could have my father pick me up. i have dealing with this reoccurring issue for a while. i took it to the dealer and they want to charge me $100 just to diagnose it in order to have nissan be involved. i have to go about this way i was told. after doing some in-depth research on the web for the 2003 nissan muranos, it shows that there are tons of thousands of other 2003 nissan murano owners having the completely same exact problem. it is also baffling to me & not fair that all the nissan dealerships are making so much money from a flaw they caused. i would like to file this issue to be investigated and recalled. this is a huge safety hazard on the road for all 2003 nissan murano owners, and it's not ethically right to leave hundreds of thousands of people in serious life or death situations. *tt

My 2003 awd nissan murano has a cracked transfer case. the dealer says that it is quite common with all murano's but there has not been a recall. the dealer says that it will cost approximately $4000 to replace the transfer case. *tr

Driving my 2003 murano two days ago at around 25mph up a small hill. the vehicle begins to jerk and lose power. i briefly let go of the gas and problem stops. i hit the accelerator pedal again, and again begins to jerk. check engine light comes on. i pull over, turn off the vehicle for about 30 seconds. turn it back on, take off again and jerks again. i back off on the pedal and had to climb the hill at 15mph. once at the top, the vehicle drove fine. i got to my destination and stayed there for about 1.5 hours. took off and got home with no obvious problems. weird! next day, at a stop sign a block away from home. car coming from left, i accelerate and the car bogs on me. would not accelerate just coasted. no power! called the dealer and dropped it off. they call me later that afternoon and they admit there were high gear issues that were resolved with resetting the transmission computer but they can't find the source of the low gear problems ( these gears are usually the ones in use at higher speeds..... ). very dangerous when driving. i felt very unsafe and afraid that it would happen again which is why i dropped it off at the dealer write away. *tr

Car: 2003 nissan murano sl awd summary: catastrophic loss of power / stalling during driving details: there are multiple issues - all reported to nissan - which promptly declined to do anything to address them since the car was out of warranty. however it's clear that several other 2003 nissan murano owners are reporting the "catastrophic" stall problem - a simple google search bears this out. to me it seems that nissan is washing its hands off the problem. here are some symptoms: 1) when driving on the freeway a couple of days ago, the car catastrophically lost power for several seconds - only to somewhat recover thereafter. at the time of recovery manylights on the dashboard lit up including "check engine" "awd lock / slip" etc. this incident happened three times in a row - and i called nissan for help. 2) i live in san francisco. when waiting at a stop sign to cross uphill, the car simply does not respond when i press on the gas pedal and starts rolling downhill instead. 3) similarly in stop and go situations - the car simply does not respond to the gas pedal - and then when it finally does lurches forward in a dangerous, out-of-control fashion increasing the chances of rear-ending the car ahead. *tr

When pushing on the gas pedal the vehicle will not go, it is a once in a while occurrence. took it to the mechanic and he can find nothing wrong. i did find the problem in a search through the internet, that many people have had the same problem. this is a very dangerous defect! *tr

Stop and go traffic, same loss of power and other various symptoms others describe, had the original trans. replaced 20,000mi. ago, same thing happening again, when is enough ,enough what will it take for nissan to accept full responsibility for this very dangerous problem i guess someone will have to be seriously injured or worse for something to be done how come toyota is being torn-apart for somewhat similar issues and nissan is allowed to skate by. a higher authority needs to come to the rescue of us consumers especially in these hard economic times people will continue to drive these death-traps because they cant afford to fix them, someone will be injured because of this, its not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when? *tr

2003 nissan murano hesitates in traffic an all of a sudden accelerates wildly in traffic... *tr

On tuesday may 11th my 2003 nissan murano began to make a loud grinding noise which has been attributed to a crack in the transfer case. the murano has 113,000 miles. this was not caused by an accident and happened without any rigorous use of the vehicle. my concern is the commonality of this failure and no action on the part of nissan. this is a major issue and can cause serious harm to the consumer. in doing research cost is expected to be over $3000. *tr

I was trying to merge into traffic after stopping at a stop sign and the car rolled forward a bit but would not accelerate. it finally lurched forward after a few seconds. the problem continued at every stop after that until i shut it off. i took my murano to a nissan dealership in east providence, ri and was told the vehicle needed a new transmission. the dealership acted like they had never heard of this before, but searching the internet reveals this is s common problem with muranos. this is a potentially dangerous problem especially in heavy highway traffic. *tr

February 2010 i was driving my 2003 murano down the highway and all of a sudden as i was pushing the gas pedal and it wasn't responding properly began to hesitate but i was able to drive it to the nissan dealer for repair and i was told it was a sensor malfunction so it was replaced (at my expense $1100). then in april 2010 driving down the street i heard a thump and as i pushed the gas and then the car began to drag and hesitate. i made it safely to a bank parking lot where i called a tow truck to tow it to the nissan dealer again. this time they say it was some sensor that dealt with the throttle and a case. again at my expense ($3200). so in 2 months i spent $4500 and at that time i was told i should be ok. well it is now april 2011 and i have the same problem again and this time it stopped while i was driving home from work. now i had it towed to my house which iss were it sits because i was told sine i went more than 12k miles it is out of warranty. so i now have a car that is useless unless i spend another $4500 to fix it. unexceptable!!!!!!! i am lucky i was not injured but this needs to be looked at soon or someone can be seriously injured. *tr

When pushing the accelerator the car does not respond then lunges forward. several times i have pushed the accelerator 3-5 times with no response then it will lurch forward. the engine continues to run. the problem is intermittent, when taken to the dealer they could not recreate the problem. it happens more frequently in stop and go traffic. *tr

1: after driving the car for along period of time in stop and go traffic or on the thruway. then coming to a complete stop and pressing the gas the car will crawl forward as if you were not pressing down the gas pedal after 1-3 sec of the car crawling into the middle of a intersect and no way to get it out of the intersect when other cars are coming down at 40mph into the intersection; will be disastrous and potentially cause a lost of life. after 1-3 sec the transmission will finally engage. the funny part is when you turn the car off and restart it the problem clears it self until it problem recurs. after reading other stories of there's cvt transmission in the murano doing the same thing to the other murano customer. i decided to take it to the dealer 2: this is a sporadic event and every time i took it to the dealer to get it check they could not duplicate the problem on march 9th and told me the transmission performed normal and it was engine [misfiring and slightly burning oil and compression lost related not transmission [i have enough automotive skill to tell me that this is definitely not a misfire/slightly burning oil/compression lost because once you turn the car off and turn it back on the problem disappears, witha engine misfire it would still persist, the engine is 100% running without any problem until this problem arise: so yesterday, when it started happening to my wife on her drive, i advise her to stop immediately at the dealer to have them take a look at i, to my surprise they refused!!! to take a 2nd look at it as they advise me they already diagnostic it as a engine problem and will not. i called them and demanded that a service tech, test drive it and he said nope this is a engine problem and told my wife to tell me that im making all the service department mad?!. i took it to 2 other transmission place and they verified that this is 100% indeed a transmission problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the transmission and the alternator became inoperable simultaneously. the dealer repaired the transmission under nhtsa campaign id number: 03v123000 (power train:automatic transmission:gear position indication -prndl) but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v319000 (electrical system: alternator/generator/regulator). the vehicle was repaired for both failures. the failure mileage was 89,150 and the current mileage was 104,000.

Transfer case seals have failed for the second time after having been replaced by the dealer in the fall of 2008. nissan north america refuses to acknowledge an issue with leaking transfer cases in muranos. they have put in place an extended warranty for cvt transmission failures, however, did not include transfer case problems. *tr

2003 nissan murano fails to accelerate intermittently. this has been random for the past few years. never know when it will occur but never when taken to dealer. *tr

I was out completing last minute christmas shopping when my car starting making a loud clicking noise then stopped in the middle of traffic. the car would not go forward nor in reverse. i called my insurance company which had it towed to nissan which informed me i would need a new cvt, which irritates me more because i had just gotten my car serviced on 18 december 09 and everything was suppose to be good to go. i feel completely helpless because the car at most is worth only 8 to 9,000. by the looks of all the complaints a new transmission is going to run me 3-5,000. i ensured i serviced my murano only by nissan at times prescribed and i'm forced to shell out more money on a $32,000 vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. the engine continued running and there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms. the contact stated the vehicle would not accelerate past 20 mph. the contact was able to shut the engine off and when restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. later, while merging onto a busy highway at an unknown speed, the failure recurred. the contact stated the failure would occur intermittently without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice yet the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure each time. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000 and the current mileage was approximately 80,000.

Nissan murano 2003 transmission or transfer case. leaking, jerks on stop and go incident. went to nissan dealer and stated that transfercase seal needs replacement . i showed them extended warranty letter from nissan company on all cvt transmission and dealer says that it doesn't cover transfercase seal repair and that i need to pay 1,300 dollars for this. i just can't figure out why? *tr

My 2003 nissan murano required the cvt transmission to be replaced twice due to failure, at 55k and 95k miles. *tr

Like the many, many other complaints on here as well as other internet sites, i too have a faulty transfer case on my awd. i took mine in to the dealer because i was experiencing a burning oil smell. the replaced the transfer case seal at a cost of $1700, it didn't work, still leaked oil. they replaced it again since the first seal was "under warranty" about a month later, still did not work. now, as you would expect, i am told the whole transfer case needs to be replaced. they have offered to do so for another $800+ dollars with no labor charge but they also seem very reluctant to do so. i am guessing there is more wrong then what they are telling me and they know they will just see me back in there in a few more months for more repairs. i have spent $4,000 on repairs in the past 8 months and my 2003 murano has become a money pit. i still owe on it, so i can't afford to get rid of it, not that anyone would buy it. i am done with the dealership which everyone advised me not to go to but i thought i was making a good decisions since they are nissan, stupid choice on my part. i will never buy another nissan again, it has been nothing but problems and the really sad thing, the vehicle and a sturdy, good handling vehicle. nissan is losing a lot of customers in this process by not owning up to their faulty product. i guess when you make enough money, it's no big deal to lose a few hundred of us in the process! *tr

After about 20 minutes driving i get a lagging issue where i step on the gas pedal after a complete stop and nothing happens, then all of sudden after 5 seconds the car accelerates dangerously! my wife drives this car and she's driving with our baby. i'm afraid that one day this problem will happen, and she would accelerate after the lagging issue only to hit someone in front of her and cause a major accident. i'm also afraid when she tries to make a left turn during the lag someone might hit her causing an accident. this manufacture need to recognize this is a safety issue, and they need to have a safety recall on these vehicles. *tr

When driving in stop and go traffic or when the car warms up, there is a hesitation when the as pedal is pressed. this usually happens everyday when picking up our children from school. took it to a nissan dealership and they said it would be $6500 to replace the transmission. *tr

In stop and go city traffic, after a while of driving when you idle you step on the gas and nothing then after 5-7 seconds it propels forward without control. late one night is almost cost me my life as i stopped at a stop sign when i depressed the gas it crawled to the middle of the intersection and just stopped for a few seconds a car was coming and almost hit my wife on passenger side. please this issue should be addressed. i've done research and it seems many people are having the same problem with this make. i am the original owner, and i only have 68000 miles on my car.= a car i paid over 36k for. *tr

When i purchased my 2003 nissan murano in 2006, it was 3 years old. three weeks after the purchase, i had problem with the car jerking and cutting completely off. i took it back to nissan but they said the part was not under warranty. i had the similar problem again a few months ago, and it was worked on and running again. on saturday, august 29th, while traveling on the highway, i was in the turning lane and it went dead. a man stopped and came over to assist me and he said his mother had the same car and it did the same thing sometimes. he got the car started for me after cutting it off for about 30 minutes. he drove behind me to make sure i got where i was going. i immediately took the car to a nissan dealer and they said it was the transmission. i do not have money to spend on a lemon. we need help from you with this problem. *tr
