My 2003 murano se/sl aawhen i first start the engine it makes a sound like it has no oil or engine is choking but its starts but if engine is idling for 5 mins or so its shut off but i can start it again but after when im driving engine just dies off amd wont start again for about 5 mins. that problems has been going on constantly when im on the road with my children or by myself last week i was driving my son to school and i was waiting to turn left and once i was turning my murano died off in the middle of the road luckily the on coming traffic had a red light so i had a chance to push it of the intersection, one other time i was picking up dinner amd engine just died off on me while i was making a right turn and gear couldnt be released of drive and key wouldn't turn either some how while i was jerking the key i was able to shift to park and key was released that time i was lucky another vehicle stopped next to me and turn their emergency hazard light because my car seemed like the vehicle wasnt responding at all not even jump starting worked and after 20 25 mims it just started againg . ive already fixed the faulty code but it still does it and now the cam and crank shaft codes appeared
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while the vehicle was at a complete stop, it did not move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
After driving in stop and go traffic or after driving long enough for the transmission to get warmed up, when accellerator is pushed the car is unresponsive for 5 to 10 seconds then suddenly lunges forward into traffic! this happens in all driving situations. the only requirement is the transmission needs to be driven enough to be warmed up. it is a known issue with this vehicle's cvt transmission failing! this is a major safety issue and all affected cvt's should be replaced or repaired! nissan has recalled other vehicles that have the exact same transmission and experiencing the exact same issues but they have ignored taking responsibility for the 2003 murano's transmission! look here at your complaints and you will find hundereds of people claiming the same thing. some are explaining the issue with knowledge of what the issue is and many others are reporting the same issue just without proper car knowledge so it may not be reported as the same issue. if you look into these complaints you can see the cvt transmission is a safety hazzard and should be recalled for life of the vehicle!
I recently purchashed a 2003 nissan murano for my wife and kid i feel like i put my familys life in risk buying this car tried several times to fix it but know out of funds to continue trowing my money away the car loses power in traffic on hills it is so dangerous we where involed in 2 near misses when trying to change lanes it loss power after hours of research i am not alone with this issue several othe people have my same type of problem i dont want to sell this car because i am not the type of person that will put somebody else life in danger so pleasee aking for youre help dont know what esle
The problem with my nissan murano like so many others is the transmission. i took it to the dealer and i wasted $125 dollars. i also contacted nissan cooperate and they have not did anything. nissan knows this is a manufactory problem and they will not acknowledge the problem. i am so frustrated with this problem i seen that they extended the warranty but i am 20,000 miles over it i need help
I have a 2003 nissan murano with 88,000 miles. the car for the most part has been reliable. recently it was diagnosed with a bad cvt transmission. nissan said it is to old to be considered for warranty repaired, i have noticed on various websites that this vehicle has numerous complaints regarding this cvt transmission. despite a warranty extension by nissan to address this problem, it seems that this problem occurs after the vehicle has exceeded any warranty consideration. this is a significant safety issue and i feel that nissan should be held responsible for correcting this problem on all affected vehicles; this should include free transmission fluid changes they claim may cause cvt failures. at this point i would not recommend the purchase of nissan products until they live up to their responsibility. if the government can make gm, chrysler and ford recall that are over ten-years old ; why can't they require nissan to do the same thing?
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while drivibg at 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
Transmission housing is cracked. vehicle made loud noises and shuddering. several similar complaints on the internet. *tr
The rear suspension member link which holds the suspension to the car rotted off and caused the suspension to fail. the remaining metal is severely rooted or perforated. there are several 2003 muranos on the road. mine is always garaged and i have kept it well maintained since new. nissanusa was called and they will do nothing to fix or pay to fix the problem. i surely would think this car could go for several more years before any problems with it. the entire car has no rust anywhere on it, so why did the rear suspension fail? i am wondering if in the early 2000's if this metal that was used was some of the batch that made them recall and replace a large number of pickup trucks too. i am wondering how many other murano's have this problem or will. this is surely a safety issue for anyone who is driving a vehicle like this.. please help. *tr
Coming off exit ramp, stopped and turned left, was going around 25 mph when the car surged forward, accelerated, rpm shot up. i had to slam on the brakes and put the car into neutral. the car then slowed and began driving normally. a week later, my wife and i were on the interstate going around 60 mph when the car slowed down as though it was put into a low gear. we could only get it to go no more that 35 mph. we pulled off on the shoulder and parked. the car would not start again. had to tow it. about a month later, i was on the interstate going around 65 when the same thing happened as before, it went into a lower gear, lowering my speed to around 30 mph which caused me to almost get hit from behind. had it been a large truck it most likely would have hit me. i put it in neutral and pulled off to the shoulder. when i pulled out again, it drove at a normal rate of speed. i've taken it to the nissan dealership and they claimed they couldn't find anything wrong. the internet is full of complaints from murano owners with the same problems and stating that local nissan dealerships cannot find the problem and if they do anything, they change out the transmission at a cost to the owner. i just purchased my murano a few months ago in september of 2014 from a small lot. this is very frustrating for me and my family. twice we could have very easily been hit from behind. since this is a problem that's been going on since the first 2003 muranos, i feel nissan should order a recall and fix this safety issue before someone is killed. *js
Transmission , transfer case, it wouldn't shift gears. it didn't go over 40 30 mph i accelerated and won't do more then 30, 40 mph and the vehicle shut down on me. *tr
I just purchased this vehicle on 7/15/14, drove it home and it would not start 7/16/14. i was able to get the vehicle started, but the service engine soon light came on and it shut off 2 more times while parked. i was finally able to get it started and running to go about my errands. i stopped to pick someone up from the hospital and it started up, but immediately shut off again. eventually, it started bucking and shuddering while i was driving and seemed as if it was going to shut off. i was able to get it to the dealer i purchased it from and he is taking responsibility of getting it serviced. the diagnosis was the rear cam position sensor went bad. i called haldemann nissan in hamilton, nj to inquire about recalls, as i knew this was a recall issue and was told that my vin number had no recalls. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving up a hill at an unknown speed, the vehicle lost power and made a grinding noise. the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate and there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle would suddenly engage independently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 101,000.
I purchased this car from a dealer as a used vehicle in september 2013. after several months i began to notice a very serious transmission problem. all of the sudden when driving the car does not respond to the gas pedal and then all of the sudden the vehicle will lurch forward. this has been scary and unsafe when driving in high traffic areas and i have run the risk of rear ending another vehicle. other times it has been an extreme safety hazard when entering traffic that is traveling at a higher speed and you have to speed up to merge. if your car does not move when you press on the gas pedal others can crash into you. i have read that other nissan muranos that are the same year as mine have experienced the same safety issues and nissan has received a significant number of complaints with regard to cvt and front transfer case (cracks/fractures) issues but that nissan has not had a recall to correct this serious problem. i have a three year old grand daughter that i have in my car with me on a daily basis and i am afraid to drive the car! i also purchased this car after another serious accident that totaled my other vehicle and now i have a car that has major safety issues that i am extremely concerned about!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle suddenly failed to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 101,000.
While driving on the interstate the vehicle lost acceleration completely. . it had to be re-started in order to continue driving. once in ,option again, the engine was idling extremely high and continued that way until the vehicle was turned off and sat for over an hour. started. *tr
I was hearing some really loud noises while accelerating in the last couple of days prior to the "stalling/no acceleration" issue that i experienced on april 9, 2014. i was driving on a busy expressway in rush hour traffic and the vehicle wouldn't accelerate or would hesitate for 5 seconds or so and then it would "kick" in, albeit slowly. the car is at the dealership right now. *tr
2003 nissan murano started at 98,000 miles. like many, many thousands of others the cvt transmission has failed and is extremely dangerous! when driving in stop and go traffic for a short period of time , when pressing the accelerator the vehicle is completely unresponsive for about 5 seconds then suddenly launches forward unexpectantly! nissan tried to look as if they are taking responsibility for the saftey flaw by extending the warranty period from 5 yr or 60,000 miles to 10 yr or 100,000 miles. problem is the issue a lot of the times starts outside those perimeters such as mine! even more, if the vehicle does fall in the warranty period they replaced the faulty transmission with the exact same transmission which also fails as they are identicle! in my case the vehicle was already outside the extended warranty period when i started experiencing the issue therefore nissan says it will not be covered. how can a major design flaw that is a serious saftey issue be covered under a time limit? the design flaw is forever therfore the safety issue is forever! so my life is depending on your help to get this resolved. this is a significant safety issue and i feel that nissan should be held responsible for correcting this problem on all affected vehicles! i would not recommend the purchase of nissan products until they live up to their responsibility. if the government can make gm, chrysler and ford recall that are over ten-years old ; why can't they require nissan to do the same thing? http://hubpages.com/autos/nissan-refuses-to-recall-murano-despite-major-cvt-problems http://www.nissanassist.com/programdetails.php?menu=2 http://www.nairaland.com/456635/nissan-murano-2003-transmission-problem look for yourself, google will show you hundreds of pages filled with nissans cvt transmissions failing! this should be 100% lifetime covered!!!
My wife and i were traveling 55 miles an hour when the transmission stopped working in our 2003 nissan murano, jerking the car (and us), and leaving the vehicle paralyzed in night traffic in the fast lane. several cars nearly hit us until we could safely steer the car to the shoulder. we were obviously scared to death and hurt from the abrupt stop. the vehicle would then only carry us about 1 mile an hour along the shoulder until we could get to safety. this vehicle only has 80,100 miles on the odometer (over a 10 year period.) it is very well cared for and maintained. we took it to the nissan dealer (woodmen nissan of colorado springs) for repair, and are now told it needs a new transmission. they will charge us $3,600 plus tax for a rebuilt transmission. nissan motor company, ltd is aware that it put defective transmissions in this model year, because it later extended its power train warranty (after consumer complaints) for this model to 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever came first. again, my vehicle has only 80,000 and just went over the 10 year mark. this product is unacceptable and nearly cost me and my wife our lives. nissan's mistake is also now potentially costing us thousands of dollars to fix. i want nissan to take care of this defect by replacing the transmission in our car. i have contacted it's customer care center and am now waiting for a response. it is solely nissan's fault., and it's responsibility to repair. i have informed millions as a news anchor across the country over the past 18 years ,and i now work as a free-lance journalist with two national news networks, i will share nissan's response to my request with every living person in my sphere of influence through every avenue of broadcast and social media i possibly can. we will see if a company that put it's customers in defective, dangerous vehicles will do the right thing. *tr
Loud banging noise, louder as i increase speed, new transmission 3/2013. *tr
We were driving home (my daughter was driving) about 45mph, and the car made a whinning noise then the rpms were going up and down, then when she pushed on the gas the car did not accelerate. got the car home and my husband said he would look at it. every time we start the vehicle makes a horrible whinning noise. we were going to have it towed to get it checked out and in the matter of a few days a squirrel had gotten under the hood and ate the main wire casing. so we had it towed to woodmen nissan in colorado springs since we couldn't do anything until that was fixed because the car had no wiring. that was 9-21-2013. we got a call from woodmen niss that the part was on back order and would be awhile, well 12-21-2013 we finally get a call that the car is done and we could come get it. while we are waiting for a car, i googled transmission problems with 2003 niss muranos and found the ext the warranty to 10yrs or 120k, well we are under the mileage but 1 1/2 months over time. we purchased from our brother in law who was the original owner. he and well as us, took very good care of the vehicle it was well maintained. niss said there is nothing they can do since it is over the 10 yrs. i looked back at the records and the vehicle was taken in on several occasions for leaking transmission... i too believe nissan should be responsible for a new transmission as it was a bad transmission and they knew it was bad. they are not willing to do anything. *tr
I was driving down a hill road, i decided to turn back, i performed a legal u turn and when i tried to reverse the accelerator would not perform its duty. i was going downhill and hit the dirt curb and almost went off the cliff if i had not pressed the emergency brakes. this is not the only incident. as i go on the freeway i am not able to accelerate from time to time because the step motor cannot perform its duty in making sure gears switch at a proper time. i went to a transmission expert and was told it was the step motor which affects the transmission. this part is in charge in making sure gears switch properly. i went online and i have seen that many people have issues with this same problem. i called a nissan dealership and was told that since i had passed the 120k mileage mark they could no longer service my transmission within the warranty limits. this means i will have to pay out of pocket $2,140.00 for a new transmission not including labor. *tr
I am pulling into the freeway in daly city and the vehicle will not engage transmission. i cruised going 10mph for a mile before i had to pull over on the freeway. i turned the vehicle off and sat there thinking on how to get home. after 10-15 minutes, i decided to drive the vehicle off the freeway. i parked the vehicle in the street and noticed the vehicle had power. i drove it to my technician that evening. owner of the shop said it was very common and lucky that i did not have my family in the vehicle. the vehicle never revved even though i was stepping on the gas pedal. i have a 13 month old daughter and would not like to think what could of happened if i was stuck in an intersection on a busy street. these cars should be recalled since there are plenty of these cases online. i would like my money back on the transfer case i had to replace and now the new transmission i will have to buy. *tr
My wife was driving down our road when the transfer case on her 2003 nissan murano locked up and locked the back wheels spinning her into the ditch and sign post. she wasn't hurt. i did alot of research on the problem, and it turns out that nissan knows there was defective tranny and transfer cases on the 03, and 04 muranos. they even issued t.s.b.s to the dealers about the defect. my question is, why they aren't being held accountable to fix the problem? why no recall? isn't your job to make the auto makers make a safe product and when they don't, call them on their faults. i know that there are alot of nissan owners like myself that are getting nowhere with nissan. our domestic auto makers have to live with recalls, why not nissan? *tr
The nissan dealer told us in january that there was a fluid pressure drop and wanted to replace seals for around $1,700. in february the dealer told us the transmission valve body needed to be replaced for $1,700 plus resetting the tcm for another $300. i believe nissan knows full well there is a problem with this design and they need to issue a recall to fix these problems. *tr
Driving and engine shutoff!!!!!!! could not brake or accelerate !!!! was terrified as i was in middle of intersection making a left with two children in the back! tuned key to off and restarted . nissan says there is a recall for this issue but my vin does not fall under it please help. *tr
While driving the transmission in the car spontaneously downshifted. as a result of the transmission failure, the engine has had a rod failure. nissan will not fix the car. *tr
Pulled off interstate because transmission was not acting correctly. when i pulled of the interstate at the stop sign, i tried to apply the accelerator and car would not move. i was almost hit in the rear. finally able to get car to parking lot. had car towed to nissan dealer for repair. waiting on call for cost of repairs. *tr
While driving on a major freeway i began to hear my cvt transmission making a loud winding noise that sounded like a turbine engine revving up and then my engine light came on. after i noticed something was wrong, the vehicle went from 65mph to 15mph during extremely heavy high speed traffic and then i was not able to accelerate which brought the vehicle to a complete stop on the freeway. the vehicle constantly does a bunny hop in heavy stop and go traffic which almost caused me to rear end another car because of the sudden surge of acceleration. this has been an ongoing issue since i purchased the car and is now becoming a serious safety issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate from stops. the vehicle rapidly jerked forward when it finally began to accelerate. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 135,000. the vin was unavailable.
Vechicle abrubtly loss power in drive train while accelerating through busy cross section. vechicle progressed no more than 10 miles while pulling off the road. once the engine was turned off, vechicle would ignition did not have power, albeit all other power (windows, lights, etc..) was ok. dealer says abs control unit and transmission failure. *tt
I have a 2003 nissan murano se. i was driving out of my house and while still in my neighborhood, the car came to a screeching halt (loud noise). i waited a couple of minutes and tried pressing the accelerator again and the car refused to move but made another very loud sound. i have 2 small children that were fortunately not in the vehicle with me. also fortunate was that i had not turned into a high speed main road that was just coming up. i called aaa and had the car towed to the nissan dealer, who diagnosed it as a transfer case problem and quoted $3300 for replacement of the part. upon researching this issue, my husband and i discovered that this is a standard problem in the earlier nissan murano models - hundreds and hundreds of people have complained about this online and it happens at roughly the same mileage in the life of the vehicle. it is clearly a manufacturing defect and should have been a recall on nissan's part as it is a major safety issue. we contacted nissan customer service and after waiting 10 days, we were basically told they were not going to do anything about it given how old the vehicle was and that they don't acknowledge that this is a manufacturing defect, even after i explained the results of my research. i told them that even if they choose not to believe that others have had the same problem, a transfer case should not give way between 80-90,000 miles - it is simply not acceptable. i am extremely irritated at how nissan handled this problem and am concerned about the safety of others who may end up in the same situation but not be fortunate enough to escape bodily harm. this should be a recall. *tr
From a stopped position when accelerating vehicle doesn't move for a few seconds then engages and jolts forward. been happening for about a year now. all fluids are regularly replaced and maintained on schedule. no idea what to do, it is a known problem so trade in value is very low. not worth putting in a lot of money to repair as the vehicle is 10 yrs old now and 124500 miles. toyota stepped up with their vehicles problems with trade in incentives or recalls why won't nissan? *tr
The vehicles drive train failed and was towed to lia nissan in enfield ct. was told that the cvt transmission had failed and was covered under the 10 yr /120,000 mile extended warranty. they also said that the transfer case was damaged but is not covered by the warranty. the transfer case is part of the cvt and should be covered. i had to purchase the part for 2,100 to repair the vehicle. they may charge for the part to offset the cost of the cvt which costs around 5,000. nissan has a major problem with their drive train and should be covered or recalled. *tr
Leaking transmission transfer case. this is a serious safety issue as the tc can fail at any time. at highway speeds this is a serious safety issue. nissan na has given extended warranty on cvt transmission, but the tc is most likely to fail due to leaks and is not covered under the extended cvt warranty nissan just came out with. many many posts on internet based on this issue. nna will not correct this design defect, even though it is part of the transmission. nna will not honor the transmission extended warranty on the cvt transmission, as they say the tc is not part of the transmission. replacement cost for tc is $3500-$4000 and if it's leaking it will fail. serious safety issue if vehicle is moving, causing potentially bodily injury in a crash, or bodily injury while on side of highway. i contacted nissan north america and they would not address this obvious engineering defect. nissan should be made to be responsible for this defect. the tc part is not designed to survive the life of the vehicle and thousands of people have had this part fail. please help. *tr
The cvt transmission in my murano went out. it seems a shame nissan won't stand by a new technology that obviously doesn't work very well. it is going to cost me over $5,000 to fix. *tr
Cvt transmission fails to accelerate after driving at low speeds...ie like thru a parking area or while in heavy stop and go traffic. than while pulling out in traffic will not not respond to the gas pedal while pressing down than it will suddenly surge and rapidly accelerate. i can not safely send my wife or daughter out in this car. had it back to the dealer many times the transfer case for the awd was replaced some time back when it cracked. but the cvt acted up occasionally long before that.!! this is a serious safety issue and should be a recall to repair these transmissions.
In the first quarter of 2010 nissan extended the warranty to cover the failed cvt transmission. the dealer replaced it at no cost to me (nissan covered the parts and labor). on friday december 2, 2011 while the service department in fairfax, virginia was replacing the lower oil pan gasket, and lower oil cooler housing, they noticed the transfer case was starting to fail/crack. informed me that within the next 6 to 12 months this would need to be replaced and this is an 18 hour job. cost estimate is $2,350. they should have informed me of the known transfer case problem last year at a minimum to save the labor cost. at a maximum nissan should recall this known problem and pay for the parts and labor. *tr
My nissan murano was a brand new 2003 it is now 8 years old with 46015 miles. the nissan service department in nh cared for my vehicle regularly; my first problem occurred when the engine started sending out black smoke, i fought for nissan to take responsibility for what was happening to my vehicle, they did; it took six to eight weeks to get the oil smell flushed out of the air conditioner. i understand wear and tear but, major engine faults happening so soon; nissan claims being the top vehicle manufactures. one of the many reasons i bought their brand. i did everything they said to keep my vehicle functioning; then it happened again; the rear powertrain reached its end, and oil leaking in the engine, the piston ball bearings is broken; and now the oil is leaking out. the average miles driven per year is 12000; my vehicle average 1500-miles yearly. i cannot nor will i battle over the 60 months/100,000 miles warranty contract; i am appealing to nissan corporation saying, look and see in my case my vehicles? problems are unique; see the oddness of an engine with only 46015 miles having such major problems. see my maintenance records, it was not due to neglect, look at the first time i had a major problem with this engine very early in the first two years of owning it. the engine and components are faulty; i just got a bad make. a feedback card came in my mail it says, ?as a valued nissan customer, your satisfaction throughout your ownership experience is our company?s highest priority?? so, then why hide behind the expired warranty? i was told, even if the nhtsa force a recall and nissan found i am the cause, the nissan board would willfully recall vehicles from 2004 up, to spite me or, single out the specific problems i now have repair them ignoring the vehicle?s young engine is completely faulty. *tr
Vehicle hesitates and does a bunny hop randomly during stop and go traffic. vehicle won't move at all you can have it floored, than all of a sudden it takes off. took it to nissan, they keep telling me its the transmission, which makes no sense since it only does it once in awhile. i finally decided to file a complaint because i was driving home the other day slowed down to get on interstate and car wouldn't go... almost got side swiped by a tractor trailer and rear ended by the guy behind me who assumed i was going. i have done some research, it does not seem like anyone really knows the cause and i am very perplexed as to the number of people having this issue yet no recall... i guess someone will have to die for this issue to be taken seriously, usually how things get done in the us. *tr
i was driving on the highway at 50mph and all of a sudden murano lost acceleration, gas pedal wasn't working at all. some how i pulled over and turn ignition off and back on and it worked fine. now when is a stop and go situation it does the same thing won't accelerate until like 5 seconds later and in a very dangerous way. i heard lots of people having the same problems and it's life treating situation. *tr
Second owner, purchased with 63000 miles. first occurrence was driving on the highway a short distance (45min) started to notice the speed pulsing on flat stretches of road with the cruise control being set at 60 mph. i would manually take over the gas pedal just to have to constantly give it more gas then less gas to maintain 60 on flat ground. to the point of nailing it to maintain 60 then out of no where it would start to go accelerate suddenly up and i would let off the gas to stay @ 60mph and hold the pedal there for about 20 secs just to lose power on flat ground again and would just repeat over and over. when i got off the exit ramp it was sputtering really bad and had a hard time just getting it home w/o hurting myself or others. next day nothing. then over time (1 month) it happened 4 other times but is seeming to get worse. then today i stopped in town at a red light. when it came time to go the care jus sat there and the rpm gauge moved up but the car didn't move forward. i immediately put on hazards, put car in park, shut it off, then restarted it to luckily be able to pull off. went on highway home going 60mph and the surging back and forth with power to weakness to sudden power was the worst its ever been. car isn't under warranty due to being 2nd owner but come on nissan really? i'm a student/new father and the $ is crunched like most families now in this economy. i bought a nissan b/c its reputation of quality and endurance/resilience. i would be sick if this injured my baby b/c this car wasn't in the "original recall range". it is very dangerous and could lead to both my tires locking up on the highway going 60 or even faster leaving not only us in jeopardy but everyone around me on the road also. *tr
The transfer case blew up, broken teeth, while traveling on the highway. cost of repair was $3500. not covered under warranty or recall, despite this being a known issue with nissan muranos. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate from a stop. once the vehicle began to accelerate, it accelerated at a very slow rate of speed. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, where they were unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Vehicle had new brakes - disks and pads added in early may 2011. july 29 2011 driving 20 + mph the vehicle started to sound like it had a flat tire. immediately took vehicle to the shop, glancing at the car, mechanic said may be a tire rod, but wanted to look at it more in depth. he stated that the noise was coming from something loose or cracked in the transfer case. he advised me that at some point transfer case will bust and all 4 wheels will lock up. he quoted me at least $2500 for repair. the location of the transfer case makes it very difficult to repair or service. why will nissan not stand behind this product. there is no rust on the vehicle, but with 150,000 miles on it now, is it worth the money to repair? i have already replace the intake manfold which cracked in november. what will be the next part to break - the engine itself? love my murano, but the company should back their product. my murano has been driven short distances a few times since because i do not want to be on the highway when my "4 tires lock up". *tr
I have a recurring problem that when i am in traffic and i put my foot on the gas pedal, there is no response and then the car surges forward. i was changing lanes and almost caused an accident. the next day i brought to the dealer and they said it was the valve body and gasket. they said the extended 120,000 warranty on the cvt transmisson would not cover the repair. i called nissan customer support, and after investigating they agreed the repair would not be covered under the warranty. i have heard so many complaints that this did not fix the problem that i just had the transmission replaced. i was too worried about the safety hazard. this is a very serious problem , that should not happen at this mileage. i also have had to have the catalytic converter replaced and also the fuel pump, just after it turned 100,000.
I was driving on the nj turnpike then all of the power when i put my foot on the gas disappeared. almost feels like the car is in neutral. was lucky i wasn't hit from behind my other cars since it went from 60 mph to a 5 mph without any warning. was able to get it to side of the road but then it wouldn't start again. had car towed to my mechanic. now i am reading online about others with the exact same problem without any solutions to a problem that nissan was aware of. guess people have to die before any action is taken. *tr
