Transmission. i just purchased a 2006 maxima. it will shift very hard from first to second. it is jerking, thrusting forward and there is a major delay when you switch from drive to reverse. it is knocking when shifting from park to drive. it does this when the transmission warms up a bit. when downshifting to 2-1, it smacked real hard at a light. i was in the car with my family. this is not good. it would appear that nissan tried to develop a tranmission that could think for you. it is currently back at the dealership awaiting testing. please recall those transmissions now before these units get too old.

2006 nissan maxima 3.5sl slams into gear it is loud and scary and is the car jerking occurs when driving forward on a straight away and when you put it drive or reverse. had to have motor mounts put on car because of the hard slamming, dealer change transmission fluid still know change, i thought it was the transmission never showed up on the diagnostic check did keep the parts when motor mounts were changed out, but i think they are broken again because the engine shifts. *tr

I bought a 2006 nissan maxima milage 68000. after driving it for few months (milage around 97000) the transmission went bad, and started skipping and hard shifting while changing gear from 2nd to 3rd there is hard shifting (jerking) and while shifting from 3rd to 4th gear it skips and the rpm increase while the car does not accelerates at that time. when i googled this issue i found that alot of nissan maxima owners have this issue. i think nissan has a faulty transmission built into these cars. nissan needs to come up with a solution to fix this issue, a recall hopefully !. thanks *tr

2006 nissan maxima with 90k miles. transmission slipping when going from neutral to drive, when slowing down and subsequently accelerating and occasionally without any rationale- simply pauses, then jerks into gear- often when in an intersection. it typically it happens when the engine is warmer than not. a transmission service and flush has been done by dealer- and they 'said' they could find nothing wrong. however, it continues. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan maxima. at 60,000 miles or so, the transmission started slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. also hard shifts from reverse to neutral and neutral to first. i have maintained the transmission properly. it turns out there are hundreds of people on the internet complaining about the exact same issue. it is a manufacture defect which has not been recalled. help. *js

My 2006 nissan maxima started having transmission problems at 75000 miles. according to aamco, i will need a new or rebuilt transmission. car jerks into 1st gear at low speed. when looking online i saw numerous other complaints exactly like mine, indicating a problem with the vehicle is a defect. *tr

2006 maxima transmission problems. i purchased the vehicle new. 95,000 on it and the transmission is shot. nissan must make us whole on this. *tr

2006 nissan maxima, when transmission is warmed up car hard shifts from first to second gear. hard jerk when decelerating or accelerating after a small deceleration as well. bought the car used with 67k miles on it and problem started around 90k. have searched the internet for solutions and have come across thousands of similar complaints. seems nissan has no clue as to why the problem occurs and only solution found is spending 3-5k dollars to replace the transmission. *tr

Nissan 2006 maxima se, transmission problem. car violently jerks between 2 and 3rd gear, revs up to 5 rpms. nissan refuses to acknowledge defective transmission after thousands of complaints. occurrence is daily, the recommend 5k repair bill. *tr

Transmission failed and needed to be replaced at 85,000 miles. car was very jerky at low speeds both when accelerating and decelerating and often wouldn't accelerate from a stopped position (dangerous when anticipating time to make left turns across traffic). i often thought i would be rear ended (due to the car not accelerating) or would rear end someone because of the jumping of the car.

I purchased my 06 maxima when it had 52,000 miles. after a few weeks i noticed the shifting is not proper and sudden jerking when shifting in r or d. eventually the jerking got worst and currently at nearly 72,000 miles it has gotten very scary. at times i feel like someone has rear ended the car. last week, while making an exit from a highway the car suddenly accelerated and got out of control. i noticed that the transmission had slipped while i was going at around 50 mph. since then i noticed the transmission is slipping constantly. i have been contacting dealers and they claim this is not a problem they know about regarding this model year. but as it seems, there are hundreds or perhaps thousands of posts all over the internet from people with the same exact problem in the same exact model maxima. i will not allow my wife to drive the car anymore since i noticed last week that the slip could be very dangerous at high speeds. i sure hope a fatal accident would not be the cause to wake up nissan to help resolve the issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle began to jerk violently. the contact stated the failure recurred at different speeds intermittently but would jerk violently while decelerating. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the transmission was flushed. the mechanic informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

I purchased a 2006 nissan maxima in november 2005 brand new from the dealer w/ 3 year warranty / 5 year powertrain. i've done all services, maintenance, etc. my powertrain warranty (engine/trans) just expired 2 months ago. my car is doing 54,508 miles. once it hit the 54,500 mark the transmission started to fail. it would jerk extremely bad w/ a 5 second delay from n - d, n - r, r - d, & d - r (all of those combinations). while driving it downshifts hard in slows the car (could be fatal). it's very difficult to control the car w/ this transmission issue. i'm checked with the dealer and they are absolutely reluctant to fix the issue since i'm out of warranty. i checked online to see if there are any recalls / similar issues. i've seen countless of people state the same issue when approaching 60k on the car. nissan needs to see this is a huge safety hazard. i almost had the transmission jam/stick while at an intersection. i could of seriously been injured while making a left turn on a green light w/ oncoming traffic, having my faulty transmission wait a 5 seconds and jolt like a car just hit me. i'm not sure who can help but this needs to be addressed and i feel this is solely their responsibility. *tr

While driving home in rush hour traffic with my 2 kids in the car, at a stop light, my maxima all of a sudden wouldn't shift into gear. the engine would rev, but no movement happened. i tried every gear and was able to get over from the far lane to a parking lot (while almost getting hit twice). my car was towed to the nissan dealership where i was told that the car that i had only had since 06/2010 needed its transmission replaced. thankfully we had bought the extended warranty. well, 5 months later in may of 2011, my car started jerking badly when shifting and sometimes didn't want to go into gear when shifting from reverse to drive. guess what, nissan dealership said the last transmission (2nd one for the car that was 5 years old had 85000 miles on it)was defective and needed to be replaced. again, it was under warranty because it had been less than 12 mths or 12000 miles on the last transmission they had put in the car. shockingly, here it is, a little over 2 years later and guess what???? my car isn't wanting to go into reverse or drive without waiting for 30-90 seconds. called the nissan dealership and they are pretty sure the car needs a new transmission!!!!!! this will be the 4th transmission this 7 year old car has had. it has 125000 miles on the car, shouldn't it just be having transmission issues now???? oh and to top it all off, the car is no longer covered under the extended warranty and the nissan won't cover the cost of replacing this transmission because it has been more than 12000 miles/12 mths since the last one was put in! something is definitely wrong with nissan transmissions and i too will be sure to never purchase a nissan ever again and will be sure to let all my friends know not to either! *js

My 06 nissan maxima has 91 thousand miles on it's transmission but for the last 10 thousand miles it has i can feel the change of gears when i accelerate the car. i thought this was normal, but reading a lot of forums i was wrong. i even changed the transmission oil at 50 thousand miles to make sure it last longer. but that's not the case. i feel ripped off and screwed. also when i park it moves 4 inches in either direction and its getting worse. i do oil changes regularly and have receipts to proof it. thank you *tr

I purchased my nissan maxima brand new in january 2006. i started feeling my car having problems getting in gear in 2011. now its getting worst. my check engine light is on, and i was told my the dealership that it is the transmission. i have seen now that nissan had transmission issues with the 2006 maximas and i believe that they should be recalled. i am in the navy and i need my car, for me and my family and i can't afford to purchase a new transmission, let alone a new car. *tr

We have been having transmission problems with my 2006 nissan maxima. it started a few months ago. it starts to jerk gradually. it really doesn't start doing it until the vehicle is hot and has been running for a while. we took it to get diagnosed but it did not read as the transmission at first. as the problem progressed, we took it again and was told that it was the transmission and that it was going to cost a whole bunch of money that we do not have. i started to do research on my issue. just to find out that i was not the only one with this issue but many more like me. food for thought, i have in-laws with older nissans that are still running with over 200 thousand miles on them. they never had to replace any mechanical parts because of how good they were made then. what does that tell us about the newer models. they were not made to last and we the consumers are to pay for it. not them. these defective nissans that were made and purchased in mid 2000's may have not been in accidents/caused accidents/injuries but we want to avoid that. we need nissan to do something about this issue because these problems we are having will and might cause an accident. all we are asking for is to have our vehicles taken care of. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the transmission was shifting hard and failing. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be rebuilt. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

I recently purchased a 2006 nissan maxima and have been experiencing some problems with it. after about a 2 months of purchasing it, it starting jerking while driving it. i didn't think anything of it since it stopped for a while. then some weeks later it did it again causing me to almost rearend someone. hear it is months later and i was heading home from work and the car just quit on me in the middle of a busy highway. it was cold outside and extremely dangerous. so now i have to get this car towed to the transmission shop to see what's going on with it. i have been reading thousands of complaints of very similar situations. many people are having problems with the transmissions in early model nissan maximas. i have been hearing that these people are paying thousands of dollars trying to repair these cars. i am very scared to hear what the dealer and other shops are going to say. this car has 89,000 miles on it with no warranty. *tr

Transmission jerks very badly from 1st to 2nd gear. this appears to be a common defect in my model. there needs to be a recall. *tr

Purchased 2006 maxima. transmission slips and knocks!! the car only had approx 80k miles when this started!! we have replaced motor mounts but the problem still occurs. it is becoming more frequent as well. i did some research and this apparently is a problem for many owners starting in 2004. we are still paying on this car! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. while attempting to shift gears, the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms. also, the gear would not engage and had to be shifted with abrupt force. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who performed a diagnostic and advised that the transmission failed and would either need to be rebuilt or replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 81,000 and the current 90,221.

Transmission slipping. *tr

2006 nissan maxima.....transmission problem...jerks violently from 2-3rd, and from 3-2nd..also sporadically slips...dangerous when pulling into traffic... *tr

I purchased a brand new 2006 nissan maxima. i have my car serviced every three months and now at only 69,000 milieus my transmission has failed. a few months after purchasing my vehicle i noticed a ?whining? noise when accelerating. i took the car back to the dealer several times for this issue and was told by the service manager that the mechanic could find no issue. i believe that there is a transmission defect on the 2006 nissan maxima and there should be a recall. *tr

The transmission slips and bangs into gear just like is common with lots of other owners and it conveniently happens right after your warranty runs out! *tr

After filing my first complaint with you for the transmission defect of my 2006 nissan maxima a year ago, i have discovered at least 1000 complaints for the same dangerous and very costly defect for that transmission. my original odi number is 10367294. it is mind boggling to me and my fellow 2004-2006 maxima owners that no defect investigation has been launched. just because (maybe) no deaths or serious accidents have not been publicized does not mean that it is not a true safety concern. please take the 1000 complaints that you have received seriously and at least launch an investigation. *tt

2006 nissan maxima, purchased from stone mountain nissan in stone mountain, ga on 2-16-08, is experiencing hard shifting in low gears (2-3rd gear). the transmission drops when shifting from park to reverse as well as from park to drive. every time i took car back to dealer they say "they can't replicate the problem" on thanksgiving 2010, i was traveling on the road with the babies when the car suddenly make this long jerking movement. car is unsafe to drive. dealer now says transmission needs replaced. (remember, they never could replicate the problem!) *tr

My 2006 nissan maxima sl's transmissions jerks very hard into gear after a slow down or when put in reverse. as soon as i enter an expressway ramp, my car jerk so hard into gear that i almost lost control and went off the ramp. i took my car to a nissan dealership who said that i need a new transmission even though i only have 82000 miles on my car. ( i purchased an extended 100,000 mile warranty from nissan when i bought the car).that dealership told me i would have to take it to the dealership that i bought it from. when i took it there, they said that they could not duplicate the problem that i described. i know that i'm not crazy and i have read of numerous complaints of the same kind.bottom line is my transmission was not fixed by nissan and i'm afraid to drive this car. *tr

Driving to work in my 2006 nissan maxima se, hard downshift while coming to a red light, car seems to have violent jerking when downshifting. only 64k bought vehicle brand new. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact was driving 20 mph when the vehicle began violently jerking and switching gears independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired or diagnosed. the contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure. the current mileage was 111,950 and the failure mileage was 90,000. updated 03/03/11 *bf updated 03/08/11*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle also jerked while the contact shifted gears. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired but the contact believed the failure to be within the transmission. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph and above, the vehicle would jerk very violently when going from second to first gears. the dealer advised that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 89,079. the vin was unavailable.

My 2006 nissan maxima has been experiencing a slip in the transmission. the other day i tried to cross a street and it slipped almost causing a crash with a semi truck that could not have stopped in time. it finally caught but was a close call. nissan has done nothing to admit or address the issues with the transmission and i have read many similar stories online. what can be done to hold nissan responsible. there needs to be some type of press coverage. does someone have to die before anything is done. *tr

Transmission shifting real hard in 2006 nissan maxima. *tr

My 06 maxima transmission starts slipping around 62,000. when its going up shift around 20-30 mph it starts to jerk really hard. and also when im slowing down. *tr

***faulty transmission*** my 2006 nissan maxima jerks, takes time to accelerate in traffic, and it barely wants to move once stopping for a red light. the gear spontaneously gets stuck in either 1st or 5th and i have to pull over and turn the car off and then back on so that i can get to my destination. this is so dangerous. my car has been properly maintained throughout the years and upon my research, i have found that others (have had/and are still having) the same problems that i am experiencing right now. this is not safe or fair to me as a consumer. a recall needs to be done asap. *tr

Our 2006 maxima started having transmission problems at about 80,000 miles. when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, there is a pause when trying to accelerate and then a violent jerk. this is a severe and dangerous problem. nissan needs to be responsible for this fix. *tr

2006 nissan maxima started jerking and slipping while driving. it occurs quite often daily but then some days not at all. i called the dealership and was told that it is out of warranty. it started around 80,000 miles. i was also told that changing the fluid would just damage it worse i just need to replace the transmission. *tr

I have just purchased a 2006 maxima that has a terrible problem somewhere in the transmission. when i'm driving i can feel the car slip out of gear and cause it to violently jerk like a rear end collision except there is not one. i don't have any lights on to detect a problem but i have seen online that others have had the same issue. i do not want to be the next one dead on the interstate because of a faulty transmission. this problem needs to be addressed because the transmission does not function properly. i bought this car because i thought nissan made quality cars and cared about their buyers but now i've seen that so far nothing has been done about this. without a light detecting this problem a lot of service people are unable to find the cause. i care about my family and now will have no other way to work because of this issue. *tr

Own a 2006 nissa maxima. serviced monthly and now beginning to have major, dangerous transmission problems. hard, jerking transmission shifts while accelerating or slowing down. took it in for repair and auto transmission shop could not get any reads on problem through diagnostics. i have been told nissan dealership will replace transmission for est. $3500. this is a widespread problem with maximas as i have seen many, many on-line complaints. it is a defect and should be recalled immediately. i will pursue to get this fixed by nissan at no cost as it is a dangerous situation. the jerking does actually make people in the car have severe, quick unexpected body jerks. please investigate. thank you. *tr

2006 nissan maxima with 79,000 miles starting to have major problems with the transmission. when accelerating, around 20-35 mpg, the engine revs high rpm and acceleration slows, and then suddenly jerks into the next gear, sometimes slightly lurching forward when this happens. when decelerating something similar happens, the car will rev high rpms and then bang or jerk into the next gear. it seems to be much worse when accelerating and appears that it is happening when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear. i have read many complaints online in official sites and user forum sites. this seems to be a widespread problem that is not being addressed by nissan. in three days i am taking it to the dealer where i will have to pay $96 to have a diagnosis performed. nissan should either recall vehicles with this transmission, or extend the power train warranty to cover repairs when more people start having this problem. when pulling out into traffic and losing acceleration, this could be an accident waiting to happen. *tr
