Aug 2011 began experiencing slipping in reverse to drive and stop to start positions. also when turning corners and when maintaining a highway speed to sudden braking and then picking up speed i would experience jerking. this only seem to happen in warm weather. it progressively got worse by oct 2011. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle shifted from drive to neutral independently. the failure was resolved after restarting the ignition. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic which indicated that the transmission would need replacing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 64,760 and the current mileage was 65,200.
While driving in first gear on light throttle, the transmission shifted from 1st gear into 2nd gear violently. nearly every time under light throttle (under normal engine operating temperature) since the first occurrence, the transmission either upshifts (1st to 2nd gear) or downshifts (3rd to 2nd gear) violently. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that after shifting gears, the vehicle would jerk violently and suddenly accelerate. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance and referred her to a local dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 122,770.
I like many others am having the exact transmission "slipping, jerking" problems between 2nd and 3rd gear. the rpm's just jump right up under acceleration, the transmission slips then catches causing a jerking, lurching forward action. it is very dangerous especially coming on to a major highway. because of this i will not let my wife and children drive in the car. we cannot afford the quoted $3500 to $4000 to replace the transmission. nor do we feel as if we should have to. we have owned this car since new. it has been very reliable but this is absurd. nissan needs to recall this model year and replace with corrected transmission before someone gets killed. or is that what it's going to take to get them to acknowledge the problem. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the transmission would slip and the vehicle would jerk violently. the contact also stated that the vehicle would intermittently hesitate before accelerating from stops. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who recommended having the transmission flushed as a temporary remedy. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 98,030.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. while driving approximately 15 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the gear slipped as the vehicle downshifted before suddenly accelerating. the vehicle would also jerk forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose a failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. updated 02/01/12*lj updated 02/08/12
A quick check of the internet will show there are a lot of people with the same problems. hard shifts, slams, transmission "slips" in and out of gear. private industry has don the work and found the trouble is with the valve body. now make nissan pay to fix the problem. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan maxima. i am extremely disappointed with this vehicle. the car makes jerking movements occasionally when shifting from park to reverse or drive. you never know when it may happen and it feels as though you are hitting something. today all the lights came, i could not accelerate and the mechanic is saying that it may be my transmission...86,000 miles!! i cannot believe that i am replacing a transmission in a nissan with 86,000 miles. i will never buy another nissan and would not recommend. i have read multiple complaints and am so discouraged. this car is not safe with random jerking motions that nissan cannot diagnose. this car needs to be recalled for its transmission. nissan does not stand by its cars or service. *tr
We purchased a nissan maxima 2005, for my mother a year or 2 ago. it reaches 80,000 plus miles and the transmission starts clunking, takes a while for it to shift from 2nd to 3rd. i called the dealership and got a price of $1100 for a valvebody. i asked if there was a recall, the employee stated there wasn't but was aware of the problem. even said that after changing the valvebody it would still do it, to "pony up" and switch the whole transmission that comes with the valvebody. now i have seen plenty complaints about this very issue, it just appears like these are forums to vent and complain. because i can't believe that after so many people with the same experience nothing has been done about this yet. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2005 nissan maxima. the contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle began to jerk excessively. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who inspected the failure and advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 72,000.
At 57,000 miles, transmission began shifting extremely hard (jerks) and erratically (cannot predict) when up shifting and down shifting between 1st and 3rd gears. very nerve-racking to operate the vehicle whenever in slow moving or stop-n-go traffic. had to maintain very large gap (wider than normal) with vehicles in front to avoid collisions. paid nissan dealership $3,300 for repair. nissan does not attempt to repair the transmission, it is simply replaced with a "''nissan factory certified reconditioned" transmission, that only comes with a 1 year warranty. not much of a warranty for a "''certified reconditioned" transmission costing $3,300! powertrain had a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty, transmission failed at 57,000 miles, but vehicle was over 5 years old. the fact the nissan dealership did not have to order the replacement transmission(had it in stock), tells me this is a very common issue and repair! the component that fails on thousands of vehicles is the transmission valve body. countless blogs on internet about this very issue. since 2006, the nissan maxima have cvt (no shift) transmission. the faulty transmission also caused damage to two out of the three motor mounts, which will cost another $800-$1,000 when repaired. contacted the north american nissan motor corporation, consumer affairs division in franklin tennessee hoping they would meet me "''somewhere in the middle" to cover part of the repair expense. they told me that the car was out of warranty and they were not going to do anything or help me out. everyone familiar with this issue knows the nissan motor corporation has known about the inferior transmissions, but yet, failed to do anything for the consumer by way of a "''factory recall." i have been a long-time nissan car owner, going back to the datsun years, and i can tell you this, this will be the last nissan i will ever own! *tr
There are numerous complaints in the nhtsa database about the 2005 nissan maxima!!! 2005 nissan maxima purchased new in 2004. the car keeps making sudden violent jerking movements while driving creating a potential hazard for a car accident. when this happens i have to pull over and restart the car. i can not drive the car on major highways and can not go more that 35mph. the car feels like it is slipping when attempting to drive after being at a stop. there is a long hesitation before the car begins to drive after being put in gear to drive. it also jerks forward suddenly when it does decide to move. sometimes the car won't move when attempting to accelerate. at stop lights i have to shift gears at times to get it to move. another incident included the car not stopping. i had to move it into first gear to get it to stop. the car jerks backwards when reversing. when these problems started the car was taken to nissan because we suspected a transmission problem. they told us it was not the transmission but instead motor mounts, rods, and bolts. i spent almost $3,000 to repair it and the problem still continued. now, i am being told that it is the transmission and given an estimate of $3100. nissan has diagnosed this problem. we discovered that there are thousands of other consumers with the same complaint for the 2004-2005 maxima. this indicates that this is a common problem that nissan is actually aware of. the battery has also had to be replaced 3times. the power doors no longer work neither does the sun roof. i have to drive to get to work and to get the kids to school. i do not like to drive with my kids in the car for fear that the car will not stop again or that there will be a collision because of the jerky movements and the cars hesitation. nissan has been contacted. no resolution has been offered at this time. *tr

My maxima has transmission problems. nothing wrong when you first drive it but when it gets warmed up the transmission clunks when it hit 2nd gear upshifting and downshifting. when you put it reverse, it takes 5 seconds to be in gear but it comes with a loud thud. a lot of times it even goes out of gear while you're driving then a tremendous thud when it gets back in gear. when it gets hot, it really gets bad. so bad that the tranny slips in and out of gear until it get in gear then a thud. so basically when i'm driving, i'm in tranny hell. please help! i just paid off this expensive car to have an expensive problem that the manufacturer knows exist.
Transmission is acting up between 1st gear and 2nd gear sometimes it slips and when it grabs it hits hard. or when shifting from park to drive takes a couple of seconds to engage. bought the car new it only has 41,000 miles. somedays its ok someday its not. *tr
Began experiencing issue with the transmission at about 75,000 miles. first noticed that when shifting from park into reverse or drive there was a lag of a few seconds and then a noticable surge into gear. then noticed an occasional (non-driver created) revving of rpms in between gears 1 and 2 and from 2 to 3. the transmission doen't appear to know which gear to engage to. these symptoms progressed over time until i satarted experiencing heavy impact like shifts between gears while in motion. the transmission will get suspended in between gears which causes an overly rapid increase in rpm's from 2000-22000 to well above 4500 until i can remove my foot from the gas (this is not from aggressive accelerator manipulation by the driver but an abnormal increase in rpm's from the transmission gear issues). i have noticed the rpm's are not stable when idling (often idles higher than normal) or with no accelerator pressure as well. took the car to a repair shop and they pulled the codes from the computer which indicated the transmission was begining to fail. the flushed/replaced the transmission fluid and indicated it could be weeks, months or "maybe" longer but the transmission will ultimately fail. online research indicates the transmission valve body is the culprit but also the ecm and transmission grounding are also probable contributors. due to the violent nature on the transmission issues it sounds as though the engine mounts may be cracked as well. this is clearly a manufacturing fault, provides a dangerous situation for the operator, passenger and other drivers. i am surprised that there have not been accidents associated with this due to the instability of the transmission and rpm issues and believe this should be considered for recall. *tr
I have a 2005 maxima and i am having very bad transmission issues. when i take off it jerks real bad between 1st and 2nd gear and then when i am slowing down about to come to a stop it also kicks and jerks real bad when it gears down to 1st and 2nd and sometimes it just wont go at all..and then when i sit there a min and put my car from park to drive it hesitates for atleast 7 to 10 secs. and then jumps real bad and then goes into drive.it usually does all this when the car is hot. i bought my maxima 18 months back, used. i started noticing this about 8 months back when there was a very evident lag in shifting and then only during park<>reverse<>drive. this was at around 95,000 miles and when i bought it had 87,000. now it has become worse to a point where it is very unsafe to drive. we have a 2 yr old daughter who always has to be transported to day care and home in this car. now i am unable to sell it because no body would pay even 25% of what i bought the car for and we are left with no choice but to drive this until it fails even though it is very dangerous to drive this car. please have nissan help me fix this car or better recall these transmissions. please please please help fix my car. thanks. *tr

I am the original owner of a 2005 maxima with 65,146 miles and i have been experiencing a very hard knock and pull when the vehicle shifts gears. i have researched the problem online and found about 100 complaints with the same symptoms. i believe their is definitely a manufactures problem with the transmission. *kb

Over the past year since feb 2010, i have been having transmission problems with my 2005 nissan maxima. the car gives a hard jerks when going from 1st to 2nd gear. yesterday while driving my maxima on the highway, luckily i was driving at 20-30 km/hr, it completely stopped and would not accelerate. for a few seconds, made this horrible noise and then kicked back into gear like nothing had happen. this continued to happen 3 times in a span of 10 min. i drove to a mister transmission where i was told i needed a new transmission for $3000-$3,500. thank goodness i was not hit and killed. nissan is fully aware of the 2005 maxima transmission problem that thousands of consumers are experiencing but yet they are doing anything to correct the problem. i am filing a complaint against nissan because they were fully aware about the transmission defect. this is a very dangerous situation-someone will be killed. *tr

Accelerating from a stop the transmission will violently jerk when shifting from first to second gear. in addition, slowing the vehicle down to a stop the transmission jerks violently changing gears from first to second. shifting from park to drive the transmission will not engage immediately and after approximately 7 to 10 seconds the vehicle lunges as the transmission finally engages. the problems occur after the vehicle has been driven for several miles and the engine is warm. this problem presented itself just after 60,000 miles. searching the internet reveals hundreds of other owners experiencing the same hazardous problem. *tr

My car is a used 2005 nissan maxima se 4 door and i have around 139,139 miles on the car. i got the car in march of 2011 and after two months the car started jerking. the jerking happens when i put my car from park to reverse or when i'm driving the car slips from the 1-2nd gear and causes a huge jerk like the car is getting rear ended. from some extended web searching i see that this is not only going on in my car but this seems like a recall on this vehicle would be necessary. *tr
My 2005 maxima 3.5 sl is experiencing problems with the transmission. when i shift from "park" to drive (forward or reverse) there is a noticeable lag before the gears catch. on an incline it is very noticeable. while driving there is a whine and a drag feeling as if the engine is straining because it is in the wrong gear. there are times when the transmission is running through its gears that it appears it either misses a meshing or it is just spinning freely and when it kicks in there is a jerk between 1st and 2nd gear and then when i am slowing down. there is a jerk and thunk sound. some times while stopped and sitting at a traffic light the vehicle will have a noticeable lurch forward. i know that the transmission/gear meshing is off because my gas mileage is off. *tr
My 2005 nissan maxima is also showing signs of transmission problems. i have been experiencing jerky shifts when change gears. i took my car to the nissan dealership in newburgh ny , (which i don't recommend!!! ) the car came back with code p0797 , pressure control solenoid valve stuck on. they looked at the car and found broken wire from ground, which cost me over 400$. when i was driving home i experience the same sensation off jerking while accelerating from gear 1 to 2 (and 2-1).the next day the check engine light came back on. i checked the code in autozone, the same code p0797 was read. brought the car back to the dealership just to find out that, they look "deeper" in to the issue and found another problem (same code !!!!) supposedly 2 valves on transmission need to be replaced , that will cost another 1200$. i took the car to amcco just to make sure i am doing the right think and found out that the code p0797 stands for mechanical issues not electrical (not for the broken wire!!!!). i called dealership and after long conversation with the manager i was told that they will work with me(not sure yet how) ,but because of my numerous complains he wont fix the valves anymore he want to replace the whole transmission. estimate 4500$ . the manager told me strait up that he knows maximas have issues with transmission(it took him about 30 min. to came strait forward). he forgot to tell me how he will work with me. *tr
Having problems with the transmission. it continues to jerk when shifting from gear to gear. it also slows down and has no acceleration. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph with the brake pedal engaged, the vehicle jerked from first to second gear. the vehicle also hesitated to accelerate when pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 93,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle lunged forward independently. the vehicle continued to experience the failure until the vehicle was stopped and allowed to cool down. the vehicle would then operate as designed. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who advised the contact to have the transmission replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 78,000.
Automatic transmission had to be replaced under 100,000 miles due to severe jerking during shifts between low gears. the worst would often be slowing down, as in approaching a stop light or stop sign. in stop-and-go traffic, the kick from the transmission when slowing (down-shift from 2nd to 1st) would often cause the car to nose-down a bit suddenly, such that drivers behind would react as if i were making a hard stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated while driving 50 to 60 mph the vehicle lunged forward and the gear would not shift into park or reverse. the vehicles gear shift was replaced but did not correct the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure in the transmission divided assembly trac. the dealer stated they were not sure if the transmission divided assembly trac was replaced that the failure would be corrected. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 92,000. updated 08/31/2011 *ln *tr
05 maxima transmission/shifting problems my 2005 nissan maxima has about 62,000 miles and started showing signs of what may be serious transmission problems. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle would give a hard jerk/jump also when decreasing speed. it feels like i'm being kicked in the back or rear end. a loud clunking sound. i've keep my car maintained and even inspected by diagnostic nothing shows, no trouble codes show up when they put the car on the scope. the vehicle would be good for a couple of days and then start acting up again, clunking and sometimes bucking like a stubborn horse while driving. mechanics have checked transmission oil and engine oil has been check and very good. i really suspect there is an undocumented flaw with this transmission and it showed up in the late '04 and '05 build cars. *tr
Having trouble with my transmission i have a 2005 maxima auto. the transmission jerks when shifting from park to drive and reverse to drive. and also when im driving about 30 to 40 mph it will rev a little bit then catch the gear really hard jerking. *kb
The transmission jerked while exiting the freeway and coming to a stop at the end of the off ramp. it downshifted improperly and will not come out of 5th gear. it jumps from 2nd gear to 4th or 5th when taking off. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, a loud thumping noise was heard while the vehicle changed gears. the vehicle also began to jerk excessively and would not shift completely into gear. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times, but they were unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
Erratic shifting, not safe to drive. *tr
Transmission, experiencing jerking when in 1st & 2nd gear. even when im on the freeway when i slow down and try to speed up again my car will hesitate and jump into gear. i also was exiting freeway when my vehicle completely shut off, i could not stear, lucky for me there was no traffic behind me. i had both of my kids with me at the time!! i believe this is a huge problem and have heard many nissan with the same problem. and the corporation is not doing anything to fix the problem. my vehicle barely reache 70,000 miles and im getting a transmission put in! *tr

slam shifting into reverse and drive, intermittent rev limitations, high revs with no transmission engagement, stall & rough idle, feels like someone slams into the back of me when i come to a stop, car revs up and then hard jerks forward very dangerous to drive, nissan refuses to acknowledge there is a problem with the cvt transmission and someone is going to be killed. *tr
When the vehicle is shifting from 1st to 2nd, it feels like i am being kicked in the back or rear ended. was informed by one of the service managers at the dealership that the vehicle doesn't have a cooling system for the transmission and that i could get it replaced or repaired but down the line, the same thing is going to happen since there is no way to cool the transmission fluids.
