This nissan has been having issues where it jerks from reverse to drive, upshifting from first to second, and second to third. the vehicle also jerks when down shifting from third to second, second to first and first to park is delayed in shifting. this issue is a safety concern due to affecting the ability to stop the vehicle as the vehicle specifications indicate stopping distance for the vehicle should be. the issue is highly unpredictable as to the severity of the jerk the car will experience which has been known to cause the vehicle to either not stop or slide in inclement weather such as snow. *tr

I bought this car less than a week ago. it's already beginning to jerk and clunk when shifting between 1st and second gear. yesterday it began to rev and then jump back into gear whenever i tried to pull away from a stopped position. i took it back to the dealer and he paid $1700 + to have the transmission rebuilt because he felt bad for selling me a junk car!. but from what i'm hearing from other drivers with the same car a rebuild only helps for about 6 months or so then the car acts up again.... i'm in the u.s. marines and i need a reliable car to go home and check on my sick father every so often and this isn't seeming so reliable. *tr
My 2005 nissan maxima with serious transmission problems. 1. there is a major delay after the shift lever is put in drive 2. between 1st to 2nd gears the car clunks and jerks into gear causing the tires screech 3. after about one hour of driving and i come to a stop, the car will not to move or respond as it should. i can be at 3000 rpm at a stop sign and the car will just creep along until it builds up speed. if i don't let off of the gas after speed starts building up to 20 mph, it well club and jerk into gear almost causing the car will to turn out of control. *tr

Just after the vehicle passed 100,000 miles, it began to shift roughly between all gears. the car "bucks" when shifting, and sometimes seems to "miss" a shift, revving the engine before settling into gear. i have researched the issue and found many other maxima owners with cars of about the same age and mileage as mine, indicating this is a manufacturing defect and not specific to my particular vehicle. *tr

When will we get a recall for the 2004 - 2005 maxima transmissions? this is obviously a known and wide spread issue. i've found and read many many reports on these transmissions slipping in and out of gear, hard shifting (up and down), hesitating and hard jerk when placed in drive, and breaking motor mounts. mine started this just under 100,000 miles. most cases i've read reported this starting around 60,000 miles. some have been fortunate enough that nissan replaced the transmission, i hope i'm as lucky. transmissions should be dependable and perform well beyond 100,000 miles, much less 60,000 miles. i've had faith in nissan and was really impressed with nissan vehicles until i discovered this epidemic issue. how many does it take to warrant and issue a recall? to protect nissan's reputation and maintain it's customer base, i hope they support their customers in correcting this. *tr
Experienced hard jerky shifts while driving and when shifting between drive and reverse gears. *tr
I purchased my vehicle and the power train was fine. i started having problems when my vehicles shifts. it makes hard jerks when shifting and the rpms rev up uncontrollably. i got online to research for recalls and have yet found one but what i did find is numerous reports of the same exact problem i'm having. this is a very dangerous situation. i contacted nissan corp. to see why there is no recalls with so many people obviously having the same issue. i was told that nhtsa deals with all recalls. there is also a class action lawsuit coming together on this issue. i'm just trying to make it know that so many of us are having to pay thousands of dollars to have this issue with our transmissions corrected. this has got to be a defect in this certain year, make, and model. please help with this situation before someone gets seriously injured or killed. i have three small children that ride in this vehicle. i worry everytime i drive with them that something terrible is going to happen. i feel nissan should be completely responsible for this. thank you for your time and consideration that it takes to look into situations like this. it is deeply appreciated. *tr
It shifts hard to between 1st and 2nd then vice versa. delayed shifting and jerking. dealer claims the only fix is to replace transmission. *tr

Car revs up on its own, also slips when accelerating i parked the car and gear would slam when shift from park to drive, reverse and whenever shifted told it is due to a bad body valve which is a very common problem for the 2004 thru 2006 nissan maxima and other nissan models. *tr
I pulled out at a busy intersection and my nissan maxima stalled out, it seemed like it would not go into first gear, even though i was pressing the gas pedal to accelerate, the car just wouldn't go into gear! it caused other cars to have to slam on brakes and drive on the shoulder to avoid hitting me and each other! my car finally "jerked" violently into gear. i took it to the nissan dealership and they said this was a known defect in the transmission, 4,000 to fix!! mind you they will replace it with a new defective transmission that there it no guarantee it will last more than 1 year! not a safe car to drive in metropolitan areas! *tr
Transmission started to shift rough, slip and make the engine rev high between shifts, this is known problem with this type of auto, mainly involving the transmission valve body and solenoids. *tr
My vehicle transmission slips alot, from 2-3 gears while accelerating or decelerating. *tr
I have had this car since 2008. the transmission start jerking at 80 thousand+ miles on it.. it jerks from 3rd gear to 2nd while moving. i took it to nissan dealership they said they cannot help. then i called nissan usa and asked them for help nissan said its out of warranty so there's nothing they can do!! dealership told me that it would cost me 4000+ to get transmission replaced... i researched there's thousand of more people having the same problem with transmission. and nissan is putting peoples life in danger and wont do anything about it.. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rpms would abnormally increase to 8000 rpms. in addition, the gear would slip and the vehicle would refuse acceleration attempts. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and after inspection, the contact was told that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 120,000.
The vehicle will slam into gear at low speeds. will pop out of gear when going from 35 to 45 miles per hour, and when you press the gas it will rev up to 5000 rpms and slam back into gear nearly causing me to have 2 accidents in traffic. when backing out of my driveway it takes from 10 to 20 seconds for it to engage in drive which could leave me out in the middle of the road for someone to slam into me. the transmission has also broken my motor mounts with all the twisting bucking slamming and jerking it has done. *tr
While entering highway from side road, transmission halted as though stuck in overdrive. i accelerated, but the engine just would not go. a truck had to brake hard to avoid collision. after a few seconds the car started to accelerate like a standard transmission had bee started in 4th or 5th gear. i have gone online to forums to see that nissan has been having this same problem for sometime. these cars need to be recalled to check for this latent defect that can result in someone getting killed. *tr
My 2005 nissan maxima's automatic transmission is jerking when shifting into reverse. the transmission also is not switching to the proper gear when going from a stopped to an accelerated movement. *tr
My 2005 maxima transmission is jerking when switching gears and also slippage. at first i thought it was the mounts because one was bad but after replacing them the problem still was still there. later i found out it was just the transmission. i looked online and found a number of people was having the same problem and there still have not been a recall. this will be my last nissan. *tr

Transmission jerked hard and car turned off. the tranny no longer engages into drive and literally jumps into reverse. *tr
Transmission began to shows signs of failure. currently, the vehicle jerks hard when going from park to reverse, and reverse to drive. when driving it will shift hard from 1st to 2nd. it will slip before ramming in to gear. there is also slipping in 4th gear. when trying to accel on the highway it will slip before doing so. in town driving is horrible. i have to try and drive the car in manual mode but that does necessarily help. after doing further research, i found that this generation of nissan maxima's have this problem. nissan is also aware but refuses to acknowledge. *tr
First thing i want to list is the transmission problem. after driving for ten minutes the vehicle jerks like a had a manual transmission(which i don't) in the wrong gear. when the vehicle gets into a gear it slams forward like i was rear-ended by someone. this is a safety hazard in stop and go traffic. then one day i made a turn at an intersection and the vehicle decided it had enough and stopped on me. got it towed to the dealer and they told me the cost of a new or rebuilt trans would be $4000-4500. *tr
I bought a used nissan maxima for 8,000 since the day i bought it, the car has a hard time shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear and so on it makes a loud clunk noise and is staring to damage the mounts. i have read similar complaints to mine online and need to learn how to get it recalled or fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan maxima. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle jerked forward abnormally. the failure recurred intermittently while driving at different speeds and while at a complete stop. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
My 2005 nissan maxima v6 3.5l a5 speed has some very serious problems with the transmission, when driving it after a while, the transmission jerks or kicks when placed in reverse or drive and the rpms rises suddenly or drops when driving it at a normal speed. the catalyst converter obd light also keeps coming on. we have seen countless of similar concerns posted on social networks and online websites regarding all 2005 nissan maximas having the same issues. this is not an isolated issue as we now know. we as consumers believe that the transmission design has a major flaw and that nissan usa has been knowingly selling cars with such flaws. we need to have a government mandate to do a nationwide recall on this transmissions. thanks *tr
Transmission jerks into gear and shifts like it could blow up or destruct at any moment while driving! *tr
