Recently reported TIRES problems on 2004 Nissan Maxima

I took possession of this vehicle around the 14th of november and this vehicle has been returned back to the dealership 6 times within a two week period. i think this could possible be a flood car there is a smell of mildew and the visor are water damaged. to this day the vehicle has not been fixed and it is the 26th day of december 2011. the transmission seems to be slipping and i am afraid to enter traffic as the car stalls and then sticks upon accelerating. the check engine light as well as the brake and abs lights are constantly on when the dealership stated that they had turned them off. i can smell fumes upon starting and driving this car. i am parent and i don't like to give my child or any other person a ride because of the smells. the tires were bald on the car and twice when it rained i almost has 2 major collisions when the vehicle veered into the other lane driving 45 in a 65 mph zone. i am filing a complaint because i don't think this car is a good car. i have contacted the finance company and they are stating this is out of there hands. i have taken pictures of the different item that seems to be water damaged. i also will be filing a complaint with the consumer law group regarding this matter. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan maxima with four goodyear eagle rsa tires. two of which had sidewall cracking and had to be replaced. i put in a request to goodyear regarding this safety hazard and was denied reimbursement/replacement. i now have a third tire that has gone flat due to sidewall cracking. goodyear is failing to recognize this defect or its danger. i simply am asking for replacement as these tires are far from worn. *tr

I have a nissan maxima that i had to replace all tires because of a defect that came to me in the mail after i brought my new tires and was not reimbursed. i also had problem with front rotors that they kept replacing numerous times until my warrant ran out and than i had to replace them with high performance rotors so it would not happen again.now after all of that and more i am not able to drive my only transportation because out of nowhere my transmission blew up after my extended warranty ran out because of years not mileage and no matter where i went i was told that if i would replace it with a new or use transmission that i would have the same problem and no one wants to work on it.i was told by mechanics that only the 2004 has transmission problems. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxima xe. the vehicle has goodyear eagle rs-a tires, size p245/45/r18 (na). the contact observed that the inner and outer sidewalls of the tires exhibited excessive cracking on the two front and rear driver's side tires. the vehicle rode poorly on normal road conditions. through research, the contact stated that there was a special tire replacement program for these tires. the vehicle was taken to the tire manufacturer for inspection; however, the tires were excluded from the program because it exceeded the expiration date. the contact was displeased to know that there was no prior notification of the "special tire replacement program" to take advantage of the remedy. the tires have not been replaced. the dot number and vin were unavailable. the failure and current mileages were 34,800.

Car malfunction on transmission. *tr

I bought a 2004 nissan maxima about 6 months ago and the car has some defects that nissan should be held responsible for. about a month after i bought the car i noticed a shaking in the steering when i stepped on the brakes or when i drive faster than 50mph. i took it into the dealership where i bought it from and they diagnosed that the rotors were slightly warped but that this wasn't necessarily a safety issue. recently at 74,000 miles the cars transmission began to fail, slipping from first to second gear and from second to first gear. it jerks aggressively when it shifts and smells like burned rubber. i took it to be serviced for this and found that the transmission fluid was heavily contaminated and there was metallic residue in the transmission pan. the auto specialist determined that the inside of the transmission was burned and that eventually the car will stop working unless i get a new transmission installed. the dealership where i bought the car said that there isn't anything they can do for me and that it isn't there problem that the car i bought from them six months ago doesn't work. it is unfair that i am paying twice the amount of money of the car's worth. the retail value of the vehicle is $10,000 in good condition. *tr

My 04 maxima currently has just over 50,000 miles on it. i have noticed some hard shifts over the past few months, but they had been very intermittent. the other day however i noticed the service engine soon light was on and when accelerating from a stop i realized that i barely had any power! after engine shut off the acceleration was back to normal. the service engine soon light remained on. the code was pulled and reset. p 0797 pressure control solenoid, stuck on. repair cost approximately 4000 dollars. problem outstanding. the struts have also gone bad. problem outstanding. i have also had to replace the battery. the front right rotor is warped and causes steering wheel shim when downhill braking. problem outstanding. my car had begun to idle very low twice and actually died once. problem outstanding. a weld on the heat shield of the catalytic converter has come loose and causes a noticeable vibration when accelerating when cold. this subsides once it's heated up probably due to metal expansion. problem outstanding. i have also replaced the tires due too bad alignment camber on some and also castor i believe it was wearing the tires unevenly. *tr

I have 2004 nissan maximum se, i bought the car may 2008 and still driving. i have issue with transmission, it jerks when gear is changing from 2 to 3 and inverse too. the mileage on my car is about 61,000mi, the manufacture warrant is 60,000mi on transmission, however, i took the car to nissan dealer at 59,000mi, and they told me that no problem detected on my transmission and i have to pay $106. the car still jerks on changing gears. this thing disappoints me and it is frustration. please advice. *tr

I own a 2004 nissan maxima and my transmission is jerking in 1 and 2nd gear(drive) and i have went to have the transmission fluid checked and replaced and the problem still exists. there are numerous amount of complaints about the 2004 nissan maxima's transmission... please research and do a recall before someone ends up on 20/20... with a sad story... please help!!!! *tr

As i wa driving on i-495, i heard a noise from the right rear. within a few seconds, the tire went flat and i was able to pull over to the shoulder. on removing the tire, i found that the inner sidewall had completely separated fro the tread and crack was almost perfectly circular and about midway up the sidewall. this was definitely not caused by any foreign object intrusion as these tires are almost new (replaced under recall last year). *tr

4 goodyear assurance comfortread tires are worn out at 31,000 miles. these are advertised and warranty for 80,000 miles. the tires were balanced and rotated periodically at sears where the tires were purchased. car's alignment was periodically checked. car was used primarily for non-city driving. sears indicates that the tires are worn out and it is not caused by vehicle problems as they are uniformly worn on all 4 tires. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxima. on approximately six occasions, the engine revved while approaching a stop. the brake was being depressed at the time of the failures. the abs actuator had to be replaced at 62,000 miles. two of the goodyear tires cracked and had to be replaced. the current mileage was 63,000 and failure mileage was 62,000. updated 12/1/08 *cn the consumer also stated there was a problem with the transmission. updated 12/05/08. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxima. the vehicle has goodyear eagle rs-a tires, size p245/45r18. while the vehicle was being serviced for regular maintenance, the contact was informed that the tires had cracks in the sidewalls. she was further informed of a recall that applied to her tires. she called goodyear and was informed that the recall expired, and then the goodyear representative disconnected the call. the contact stated that she never received the customer satisfaction notification, even though she has owned the vehicle since february of 2007. the dot number and recall number were unavailable. the current and failure mileages were 52,000.

I purchased a 2004 nissan maxima, on february 27 2007 with only 24,000 miles. three months later, the vehicle started to fail. i notice some jerking when i slowed down and then hit the gas, as well as a metal rattling noise (when i give it gas). i took it to the dealer which they stated that they didn't feel it jerk and they didn't hear the rattling noise. the noise has become worse. now a year later the engine light came on and my car wouldn't start. i took the car to the shop where they diagnose that my ignition coil went bad. (had to replace all six) cost $1000. to this point the car still remains in the shop due to ignition coil. finally, the rotor went bad which had to be replaced for the amt $380. i have done some research on this vehicle where there have been numerous complaints. i highly believe that an investigation should be place to get this on the recall list. *tr

Notice of possible tire cracking condition received through the mail suggest looking at tires. looked at tires saw no cracks .a few months later a tire was flat even though it looked like good thread wear and a second tire was slowly losing air. the flat tire had several cracks on the inner side of tire sidewall. we contacted the goodyear company and they suggested going to a goodyear dealer and have them inspect the tires. after going to the suggested dealer, they confirmed that all the tires were cracking and suggested not riding on them. the dealer said they had a file number for this inspection from goodyear. the dealer also said the tire replacement would cost more than $1,100.00 and that was only an estimate. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxma. the vehicle has goodyear eagle rs-a tires, size p245/45r18. the contact stated that all four of her tires were replaced under a recall. a few days later, she felt a vibration when driving various speeds. the tire dealer stated that the failure was due to the road conditions. in march of 2008, she took the vehicle to the dealer for a tune-up and noticed that the steering wheel was shaking uncontrollably. the dealer stated that the failure was due to the replacement tires. the contact went back to the tire dealer and they replaced two more of the tires. after the replacement, the tire dealer stated that the vehicle would still drive "roughly" due to the road. in june, after a long road trip, the steering wheel shook so much that the contact could visibly see it shaking. she took the vehicle back to the tire dealer and they changed one more tire. she spoke with the vehicle manufacturer and was referred to the tire manufacturer. the tire manufacturer began compiling a case for her based on the failures. the recall number was unknown. the current mileage was approximately 47,150 and failure mileage was approximately 45,000. updated 09/24/08 *bf the consumer stated the issue was resolved. updated 10/01/08. *jb

Purchased 4 goodyear eagle rsa tires in the past 2 years (2 purchased @ just tires and 2 purchased at gardena nissan). tires frequently lost air pressure. i went back to just tires and was told that it was because of the rims. i went back to gardena nissan and they could not find anything wrong, so i purchased nitrol thinking this would solve the problem. the problem continued and i took it back, still no problem found. while driving i heard a pop, stopped and saw that the tire was flat. turned into gas station on corner and attempted to put air in, tire would not inflate. called aaa, tow truck driver removed tire and found 3 cracks, 1 of which had blown open. he said it as a manufacturer defect. a week prior to incident i received a recall letter from goodyear for the same defect. i took tire to gardena nissan and they said they could not do anything-i would have to go to goodyear. i then went to just tires, they said the tire was defective but it wasn't covered under the recall because of the dot and they couldn't get authorization because goodyear was already closed for the day. they also found that one other tire had the same cracks in it. so i purchased 2 new tires at the prorated rate. i contacted goodyear the next day about reimbursement and was told that they would not replace the tires because they didn't fall within the recall criteria, eventhough they have the same defect. *tr

I rec'd a letter regarding recalls on tires on a 2004 nissan maxima informing of defected tire walls where the tires crack/split. my tires are now showing such damage, but, i have misplaced my letter indicating where to take the tires for replacement. please send pertinent information as soon as possible so that i can have damaged tires replaced. thank you. d. hamlet *tr

Biggest problem is the transmission on the 2004 maxima. it started with jerking, and speed changes while driving. rotators, air conditioning, tires, struts, and trembling in wheel. transmission is an ongoing problem. also, the struts were replaced, trembling is still there, air conditioning low and hose replaced. but now it rumbles when turned on. tires almost cost me life on expressway due to crack in sidewalls. *ak

I have a 2004 nissan maxima se that i bought 2 years ago with 14000 miles on it. currently have 24000 miles so i don't drive a lot. in those 2 years, i've had struts, brakes, rotors,a/c problems, tons of anti-lock brake issues(was in shop 4 times) and at 19000 miles, a tire blowout and again another one at 24000 miles. i submitted my paperwork for cracked sidewalls on my goodyear rsa tires on july 1,2007 and have not heard anything yet. this car has been the car from you know where. it just has problem after problem--i get one thing fixed and something else seems to come up. *jb

2004 nissan maxima. goodyear tire recall concern and complaint. customer states that he never received a recall for the tires on his vehicle that he had to replace with his own money. *kb the consumer noticed cracks on two of his tires. the consumer was unaware of any recall, therefore he decided to replace the tires with the same brand that was previously on his vehicle. *jb updated 09/18/07 *tr

After replacing three out of four tires on 5/29/07 for cracking around the entire outside of the sidewalls i received a letter dated june 15,2007 stating there was a problem with the tires. obviously i had already paid $593.80 out of pocket. because dobbs was not notified by good year until june (according to good years assistance center) they did not put the reason for replacement on my receipt. i promptly returned to the dobbs location and spoke with them and they filled out the claim form provided by good year to verify my three tires were replaced for that reason. i then sent my paid receipt along with claim for to good year. now, almost three months later good year is refusing to refund me their consumer for a problem they know exists. their reasoning, the dobbs employee did not write on the claim form (a claim for designed by good year) why the tires were replaced. common sense would tell a consumer and the employee at dobbs if they are fillling out a claim form, for a problem good year admits they are having with their tires ,that is why the tires were replaced. i am a very frustrated consumer that had my tires replaced due to a safety issue and now am getting the run around from good year who is fully aware they have a problem. i guess in their minds i should have continued driving the vehicle with the tires cracked for an additional two weeks until i got their letter and dobbs would have never charged me the consumer. nevermind the safety of the consumer and their passengers. the nhtsa is obviously designed as a organization to keep people safe in the event of equipment failure such as this tire issue. unfortunately, it is apparent to me the good year will go to extreme measures in order to not take responsibility for the poor product they made available to the consumer. as they clearly, state in their letter it is just a "cosmetic" issue, they are taking no responsibilty and once again the consumer is paying the price.

I own a 2004 nissan maxima. i had the tires replaced at around 30,000 miles due to "cupping" on the tires. they wore terribly and were making a terrible noise. i then had to have the right front strut and bearings replaced at 31,000 miles and now at 47,000 miles my left front strut and bearings needs replacing, which will cost me nearly $400.00. the car has a bad vibration in the steering wheel at 50-60 miles per hour and when braking. now, my new set of tires have worn badly and are so noisy that you cannot hold a normal conversation at freeway speed. i love the look of the car, but i cannot wait to get rid of it! it is obviously not safe if the suspension bounces you all over the road! additionally, i have had to have the heat shield replaced once and now it needs it again. the power outlets are in the worst possible places i have ever seen. nissan....please do something about this before your loyal customers pay for this flaw! *tr

I bought the 04 nissan maxima in december 2004, and in september . 2005 i took the car to have the tires rotated. i was informed by the local goodyear tire dealer that two of the tires had cracks in the sidewalls. because the car had only 10,000 miles goodyear replaced these two tires under the original warranty. now, in 2007 with 40,000 miles on the car the other two original tires have sidewall cracks. of course goodyear will only give me credit for the wear left on the tires , and a new tire cost $300. we have decided for safety reasons we were not going to replace these tires with the goodyear eagle size 245/45r18v. this seemed to be a similar problem as ford and firestone had with the explorer several years ago. why has the public not been informed about the nissan/goodyear tire problem. my conclusion was fewer of us own nissan vehicles than fords. so, if the tires cause a couple of us to have wrecks that was just the price of doing big business. *ak

Sidewall cracks on all 4 tires (goodyear eagle rsa 245-45-18) on my 2004 nissan maxima were apparent at about 20-25,000 miles. i was verbally notified about this defect by the nissan dealer, who recommended a complete new set of tires. i wanted a second opinion about the cracks, as there was still good tread left on the original tires. i took the car to discount tire co. they also said that the tires were cracked and therefore unsafe. i had all 4 of them replaced. unfortunately, discount tire company didn't write the reason for replacement on my receipt (cracked sidewalls), and because of that omission, goodyear has denied me any redress at all. to date, they still haven't even sent the original receipt back to me.

Problem with steering wheel shaking badly while braking. i was told i needed new tires at first soon after ownership. i bought this maxima new in 2003 with about 10 miles on it. couple years later had to take back to dealership for bad tires/cracking on the sidewalls. had two new tires put on and had the rotors machined. problem recurred almost immediately after having rotors machined with some improvement, but now the problem is worse than ever. bought two more tires and was told to replace the rotors when i am going to replace the brakepads, which has already been done once. fog light also had to be replaced while getting an inspection. had to replace a battery which made my gas gauge fail/currently does not work. put gas in every 300 miles so i don't get stranded on the road. care runs badly and i feel very unsafe in this vehicle/considering getting rid of it as soon as possible. i believe nissan should take this vehicle off the road before it seriously hurts somebody. *tr

Car was being driven on atlantic city expressway in new jersey when a recalled goodyear tire blew out. kept control of the car. went to get a new tire a found that all four tires that were recalled were ready to blow out. bought four new tires. the recall deadline for these tires was december 2007-which we missed. how do you put a deadline on a recall. if there was an accident it could have been very bad and we would be pursuing a lawsuit against the tire manufacturer. *tr

Good year eagle rsa tire blew on i-95 in south florida. sidewall blew out of tire. tires have less than 25,000 miles on them. nissan dealership replaced blown tire, but noticed all of tires left (3) had sidewall splits that they deemed unsafe. they would not replace the other tires, they stated that they were 1/2 of a 32nd less tread than they were able to replace. these tires are defective. these are the tires that nissan puts on all of their maxima models. good year should be required to replace tires. *tr

I have been experiencing problems with the goodyear eagle rs-a's that came on my 2004 nissan maxima. all four tires have been leaking air due to the sidewall cracks that have developed on each tire. due to the fact that all four tires have developed these sidewall cracks and that multiple individuals have experienced this same problem leads me to the conclusion that this is a factory defect. due to the concern of my family's safety, i have replaced all four tires with another brand of tires. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxima. while driving 5 mph into the driveway it was difficult to steer the vehicle. the contact observed a large crack around the rim of the tire. the dealer informed the contact that all four of the tires were a safety hazard and they recommended that she no longer drive the vehicle. the goodyear manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to town fair tire and speak with a representative. the dot# for 3 tires are m6a9cmwr1703, and one tire dot# was m6a9cmwr5203. all of the tires are goodyear eagle, size 245/45r18v. town fair inspected the tires and confirmed with goodyear that all four tires were a safety hazard at 23,000 miles. goodyear stated that they would pay 75% of the tire replacement; however, the contact feels that goodyear should pay the full amount. the contact filed a complaint with goodyear and was given case # 888402. the contact will also be filing a complaint with the attorney general in her local area. the contact has one of the tires if necessary for the investigation. the current mileage was 23,552. *ak update 04/17/07. **tr
