We have classified the 30 complaints from 2004 Nissan Maxima about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
I've had a total failure of the vehicle dynamic control/stability control. the yaw/g force sensor failed. prior to this being discovered by a code on the car's computer, i complained to the dealer that on dry roads, on straight always and curves at speeds between 25 and 45, the passenger front brake would engage without warning and the car would pull violently to the right. dealer investigated and could not duplicate the experiences. on sat. 5/30 in under 10 minutes 3 times i experienced a sudden and uncontrollable application of the right front brake which pulled me off the road and onto the shoulder of the road 2 times and the application of both front brakes which caused the car to come to a sudden full stop. i was nearly rear ended by the car behind me. when this failure happens it is un announced, sudden violent and the brake lights do not come on. nissan confirms the sensor has failed. this is a dangerous condition and can lead to accidents, property damage, injuries and possibly death. *tr
Front struts replaced on my brand new 2004 nissan maxima after 9 months. i also had to have my rotors turned after 18k miles. i know of others that had/have the same problems.*jb
Dt: contact states when the vehicle is in reverse there is a loud squeaking noise when the brake pedal is pushed. also, there is vibration when the brake pedal is pushed while driving the vehicle. a goodyear service dealer stated the rotors needed to be replaced. the dealer where the vehicle was purchased said there was nothing wrong with the brakes. this has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased. *ak
The driver noticed while driving,a squeaking noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle started vibrating uncontrollably. the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic informed the driver that the structure of the vehicle was design defect from the manufacturer. a fix was not available at this time. *nm two months after purchase, the brakes began to squeal. dealer said it was a creep groan and could not repair the problem. consumer experienced 4 flat tires (goodyear p245/45r18 - model # 96vs2eagrs-avsbrptl) all found to have defective splits called sidewalk circumferential cracks. consumer received a safety recall notice regarding a sun roof shatter condition. *tt
2004 and newer nissan maximas has a serious steering wheel vibration after 40mph. nissan dealership says they are no complaints, but the internet if full of customers having this same problem. my car is 6years old but only has 34,000 miles. new tires, brakes, rotors, alignment multiply tire balances has not fixed this problem. on the internet customer have replaced struts, bearing,cv axles and problem still exist. this seems like a problem needs to be addressed. *tr
When reversing my brakes squeak almost every time. 8000 miles on vehical, well kept, normal driving conditions. took it to the dealer to and they told me nothing was wrong. no inspection of my brakes were done, just visually.*ak
While driving at highway speed steering wheel shook. dealership inspected vehicle twice. first time they tightened the suspension system. the second time dealership replaced the front rotors, but the problem recurred. also, radiator failed. *ak
I have had problems with my 2004 nissan maxima since purchasing it brand new. within 60 days of purchasing the car, i had to take it back to the dealership due to a malfunction with the brakes. i have spent over $1,500 since keeping the brakes and rotors repaired. i am on my fourth set of tires and have had three alignments and my front end inspected. i have had to replace an engine mount. in 2006 my air conditioner went out and i spent over $500 having that repaired. now i am in need of a new transmission because there is internal damage due to the clutch slipping even though it is an automatic car. i have two friends with the same model/year car and they have experienced similar or the same problems. once of my friends just replaced his transmission in his 2004 maxima. this car has cost me at least $5,000 in repairs since i have purchased it and i have never ever received a recall notice on anything. i know that nissan is well aware of the defects in the 2004 maxima, but are not owning up to their responsibility in taking care of all of the problems that i have read about and talked about with different 2004 maxima owners. i have also had the battery replaced twice. the body style of the car is beautiful, but the car itself is a piece of crap due to poor mechanics. *tr
Purchase new car dec 2003, car vibrated while braking and making a rubbing noise when turning, this was at 11,000 miles, rotors were turned and then problem started again and the rotor were turned a second time. the rotors were turned a third time when the noise returned the fourth visit the rotors were replaced after much protest by the dealership. now the problem is back again the noise has returned.. do you have any information regarding a defect with the rotors, struts, or brake pads.. the brake pads were also replaced after i insisted that they were replaced. the dealership continues to say that the rotors get hot and can warp when you hit water on the road, surely the rotors should not have to be replaced after a year of normal wear. i also have a 1997 toyota 4 runner and a 95 4-runner and have never had to replace the rotors. please advise. *nm
