Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact was driving approximately 55-60 mph when he noticed the fuel level gauge had dropped and the vehicle service warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the diagnostic test determined that the fuel sensor was defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the manufacturer advised that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary tank). the failure persisted. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
Fuel gauge failure on 2006 nissan frontier 4door pickup truck. i called several nissan dealerships and all of them told me it was the fuel sending unit without ever seeing the truck! after doing some online research it seems this is a common problem on this vehicle, i feel this is a safety hazard as someone could run out of fuel on a busy road and be hit from behind and or wreck trying to maneuver the vehicle from the roadway. (as almost happened to me). *tr
After filling gas tank it drops to empty and service engine light comes on. after 43 miles it goes back up and then seems to work until next fill up. if idling in park for a few minutes it drops to empty again. then the next day it goes back up again. it is a constant problem and i never know how much gas i have other than tracking mileage. recall many others with same problem. thanks. *kb
This is a complaint about the same problem i'm having with my 2006 nissan frontier. i called nissan and mentioned the recall notice for this and they would not guarantee that it would be covered. at this point the only way i can be sure that my vehicle has gas in it is to track the miles every time i fill up the fuel tank. the fuel gauge is useless and if i fill it up it immediately says it is empty, the yellow light comes on and my check engine light comes on. even the nissan recall notice says this is a safety issue but when i called them they said i "might" not be covered..... 2006 nissan frontier with fuel gauge not working correctly at approx 80,000 miles on vehicle. initially service engine soon light came on intermittently when the fuel reached approx 1/4 tank full. now, ses light stays illuminated and actual gas gauge intermittently works. this is well documented problem addressed many many times on vehicle forums. this is a serious safety issue as i have no idea of how much gas is in my vehicle and the potential exists for an accident on a major road due to a real gas outage. there has been a safety bulletin about this but no recall yet to my understanding and has occurred throughout many different nissan truck models from the xterra, pathfinder, and frontier. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact stated that he refueled the vehicle and proceeded to drive 70 mph when the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel level was empty and the low fuel level warning indicator was illuminated. in addition, the service engine soon light was illuminated. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge would only display accurate fuel levels when the fuel tank was approximately three-quarters full and would fail when the fuel tank was down to three eights of a tank. the failure began two months prior and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel level sensor would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 71,000. updated 01/20/11 *bf

Fuel gauge began reading inaccurately causing me to run out of gas in the middle of a busy road. there is already a recall for my model and year vehicle for this problem. however, the manufacturer says my vin number is not included. *tr
Run out of fuel two times, reason the fuel level sending unit isn't working. *tr

The fuel sending unit broke down and the gauge shows there is fuel left in the tank while it is actually empty. danger since it increases the risk for a crash. other vin numbers same year and model has been recalled but mine not included. *tr
The fuel gauge is erratic, reading empty when it's full and the check engine light came on. nissan has a technical service bulletin # 07069 for a faulty fuel level sending unit. *tr

Check engine light is illuminated due to faulty fuel sending unit. the fuel sending unit controls the vehicle fuel gauge and provides information to run on board emissions diagnostics. dealerships refuse to cover the repair under warranty. consumers are unable to register a vehicle when the check engine light is on because the vehicle will not pass a smog test. safety becomes an issue due to the fuel gauge not accurately providing the correct level of fuel in the tank. a recall has already issued for a similar fuel issue on this vehicle - i believe the fix requires replacement of the fuel pump and includes the fuel sending unit. *tr
2006 nissan frontier's fuel gauge is sporadic. it will read 1/4 tank and then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on. after filling, it may take an hours for the gauge to read full. shortly after the problem started the service engine soon light came on. computer error says error po463 fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause: this is a safety issue. from nhtsa campaign #10v075000: "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic increasing the risk of a crash". nissan dealer service tech. told me this a big issue with many more vehicles than the recall (nhtsa camp. #10v075000) covers. i contacted nissan to ask if they planned to expand the recall. they said no and declined to assist with even the part for the 500 part. from looking at numerous forums and this site. i can see that the are many owners in the same situation--a defective gauge and their vehicle not covered by the current recall(s). i don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but i hope nhtsa looks into it. *tr
2006 nissan frontier fuel sending unit quits working after approx 4 years causing incorrect fuel gauge reading and service engine light to illuminate. dangerous as incorrect gauge reading could cause vehicle to run out of fuel. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact received repairs to the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). following repairs, the contact filled the vehicle with gasoline fuel and the fuel level indicator would not read accurate fuel levels. the dealer advised the fuel tank would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the current and failure mileages were 63,000
My nissan frontier fuel gauge has stopped working- i called about the recall and i was supposedly not covered but they can check it for 100 bucks up front to make sure. *tr
I filled up my truck and the fuel gauge does not respond properly. it may tell me i have more or less gas than i actually do. i can turn the key off and recrank the engine and have a different reading. recently it caused my service engine soon light to come on. also if i am driving a long distant the gauge sometimes will go from empty and start going to full as i drive. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact received notification of nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary tank) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. after repairs, the vehicle began experiencing the failure and would stall without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer four times yet they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 100,384.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. while traveling at 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated on the dashboard. within seconds, the fuel level gauge became inoperable. the dealer advised that the fuel level sensor would need to be replaced. the contact inquired about nhtsa campaign id number: 06v092000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap) but was told his vin was not included. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
2006 nissan frontier le 4x4 with may 2006 build date. fuel gauge stopped registering upon fill up. gauge needle drops to empty with low fuel light within 2 miles of fill up, followed by service engine soon light. after 3-5 days of driving, gauge intermittently starts reading actual fuel level and ses light goes off. consequent weekly fill ups have exact same results. nissan dealer says an active recall for fuel sending units does not cover my vin. impossible to tell how much fuel is in tank exactly on any given day. i use miles driven as gauge, and reset upon fill up weekly for a rough estimate. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact stated that after he filled the vehicle with gasoline, the fuel level indicator would only read half a tank of gasoline. the check engine light also illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer was able to diagnose the vehicle with a defective fuel level sender circuit (code p0426) which was described in nhtsa campaign id number 06v092000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap) but his vin was not included in the recall. the dealer advised the repairs were the owners responsibility. the failure mileage was approximately 43,000 and the current mileage was 43,136.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) notified nissan of our vehicle having the recall problem with our 2006 frontier xe. nhtsa campaign # 10v075000. nissan states that our truck's vin # is not included in the recall at this time. check engine light is on and testing shows that the fuel level sensor circuit high input as the probable cause. we called nissan at 800-647-7261 twice. both times we were given a ref. # [xxx] . we never know how much gas we have...my husband just ran out today going to the store and the fuel gage showed that we had gas. very frightening. thank goodness he was not on the freeway!!!!!! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be repaired for recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage auxiliary tank) on monday april 19, 2010. after the vehicle was repaired, the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tank was half full but the tank was actually empty. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer twice and the fuel sender unit was cleaned. the failure did not occur prior to the recall repair. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the failure. the third time that the failure occurred the contact stated that he would take the vehicle back to the dealer with the understanding that the failed part would be replaced instead of cleaned. the failure mileage was 49,009. the current mileage was approximately 50,050.
Fuel gauge does not accurately report fuel level. there is a recall for this year, make and model but nissan says it only for specific vin's and that not all are subject to the recall even though i have a faulty fuel sensor as well. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact stated he received notification of nhtsa recall campaign id: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repairs. the dealer dropped the fuel tank and replaced the sending unit as a remedy to the recall. prior to the recall repairs, the contact had not issues within the vehicle. following repairs, the fuel level indicator would not read accurate fuel levels. when filling the fuel tank, the fuel level indicator would remain on the empty position. the failure occurred sporadically following repairs. the failure mileage was 43,700 and the current was 44,000.
At about 37,000 miles, the fuel gauge on my 2006 nissan frontier started reading "empty" no matter how much fuel was in the tank, and the "check engine" light came on continuously. the fuel sensor was replaced with a "revised" unit and now at 46,000 miles, it is reading "empty" all the time, even when the tank is full. *tr
*tr
Service engine light came on, code is p0463 - fuel high level sensor. the truck is a 2006 nissan frontier with 34,000 miles. the dealership said there is a tech bulletin, no recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the ignition was started and the contact observed that the fuel gauge displayed empty, after dispensing gasoline into the fuel tank. the failure occurred on several separate occasions to include inaccurate readings. the check engine warning light also remained illuminated on the instrument panel. an authorized dealer was notified of the failures. the technician stated that there was not a safety recall and the service warranty would not cover the repair expense. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 37,500. the current mileage was 37,760. updated 05/18/10.*lj
The fuel gauge shows the vehicle has approximately 1/4 tank of fuel. it seems to stay there for some time, then after some mileage drops completely below empty, the fuel warning comes on solid (not gradual before this failure). all indications upon filling up is that the tank is close to empty. all indications appear to be identical with a similar recall for the same recall for the nissan frontier xe models both before and afterward in the 2006 model year. mine manufactured 08/06. that recall is nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact stated that on march 27, 2010, after filling the fuel tank, the fuel gauge still registered empty and the check engine light illuminated. about 75 miles later, the fuel gauge began to function properly and the check engine turned off. the contact referenced recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage:auxillary tank) that believed to be directly related to the failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the fuel lever sensor and gauge assembly were repaired at the owner's expense. the contact also filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 79,000. the current mileage was 80,266. updated 07/01/10 *bf the consumer stated the problem was resolved and he was reimbursed. however, the timing chain had to be replaced. the consumer is seeking reimbursement. updated 07/07/10.*jb
Nissan frontier 2006 fuel guage no longer working. service engine soon light came on. took vehicle to dealer. vehicle has 50k miles on it. dealer told me that this was not a recall, and since the truck is no longer under warranty, this would cost me $450 out of pocket. from reading posts on the web, i see that this is a very common problem with nissans from 2005-2007. i have no way of being sure i have sufficient fuel, which would seem, to me, to be a safety issue. what if i am caught in inclement weather with no fuel? i was told there was no danger in driving the vehicle *as is*...... and am trying to find out why this would not be a recall issue if so many vehicles were affected by the same thing.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. while driving at approximately 45 mph on the highway, the vehicle completely shut down without any warning. the gas gauge indicated that the fuel tank was half full although it was empty. the contact was able to safely pull over to the side of the road and add fuel to the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where she was informed that the gasoline storage tank was the cause of the failure. she called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. the manufacturer advised her that the vehicle was not included in recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). the failure and current mileages were approximately 25,000. updated 05/07/10. *lj when the consumer took the vehicle to have another service performed she was told the work could not be done, because the check engine light was on. the consumer was informed the light was on due to a faulty fuel sensor and it would cost $400 to repair. updated 07/14/10. updated 07/14/10.*jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact noticed that the fuel gauge would not display the correct amount of fuel in the gas tank. the check engine light also appeared on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealers where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced and that nhtsa recall# 10v075000 fuel system, gasoline, storage, auxiliary did not apply to his vin . the failure mileage was 64500 and the current mileage was 65000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the driver stated that upon filling the fuel tank with gasoline, the fuel gauge would read inaccurate fuel levels. he located a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000, fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank) and upon contacting the dealer, was told his vin was not included with the recall campaign. any repairs made to the vehicle would be at the owner's expense. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 40,400 and the current was 40,420.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. the contact was driving at approximately 20 mph when the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop to be inspected. the mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the failure was caused by a fuel sensor. the vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 41,500. the current mileage was approximately 41,700.
Nissan 2006 frontier se crew cab. check engine light comes on; and check has a "p0463" code. gas gauge does not give accurate fuel level. occurs all the time. sometimes the check engine light goes out, but will light up especially if near empty or after filling up. no correction; except to spend $800 at nissan dealer to replace part of the fuel tank assembly.
Fuel gauge stopped working, making it impossible to tell how much gas is in the tank. this is dangerous and a huge inconvenience requiring me to fill up way before necessary to avoid have the truck run out of gas in the middle of the freeway. there was a recall, but my vin didn't qualify. this is a much bigger problem than nissan is acknowledging. they need to extend the recall to all vehicles with this fuel system design. *tr
As my vehicle uses gas the gauge sticks at about 5/16 to 3/8 full. this action causes the fuel gauge to then do unusual things such as fall to empty and throw a fault code to the obd ii. or the fuel level on the gauge will stay at approx. 5/16 to 3/8 full for a prolonged time while driving. i have contacted nissan but they say the trucks build date falls outside of the vehicles which have been recalled. it sure seems to me that i too have a gas tank with the deformity which causes the fuel float to "catch' or "stick'. *tr
Molded fuel tank shells can deform causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tack shell causing the instrument panel fuel gage to show vehicle one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. vehicle ran out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. *tr
Have a 2006 nissan frontier which has a defective fuel level indicator. this caused me to fail nj state inspection. nissan has a recall on 2006 nissan frontier fuel sensors. apparently even though i have this problem, they are unwilling to repair due to vin #. i never know how much fuel is in my car. *tr
Nissan frontier 2006 all have a common defective part, the fuel level sensor. i have this truck and at approximately 43,000 miles, the sensor went out giving me the "service engine soon", code number p0463. the nissan dealer said it would $350 to replace, at my expense. after further research in internet forums, this is a common defect with all 2006 frontiers with the sensor going out at approx 42,000-43,000 miles. the fuel gauge no longer functions, leaving the owner not knowing how full the fuel tank is. there are post on various forums of drivers being stranded with an empty tank due to this defective part. nissan has recalled some of the vehicles for this defect but when i advised nissan customer service that my truck had the same defect, i was told that my vin was not part of the recall. it is clear that the recall needs to be broadened to all vehicles produced in that year. *tr
2006 nissan frontier fuel system. after fueling up my pickup, the check engine light comes on and gas gauge show empty and dte computer goes out. being a component of the fuel system this can be dangerous. any malfunction in a gas tank should warrant investigation and resolution. *tr
2006 nissan frontier's fuel gauge is sporadic. it will read 1/4 tank and then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on. after filling, it may take days for the gauge to read full. shortly after the problem started the service engine soon light came on. computer error says error po463 fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause: this is a safety issue. from nhtsa campaign #10v075000: "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic increasing the risk of a crash". nissan dealer service tech. told me this a big issue with many more vehicles than the recall (nhtsa camp. #10v075000) covers. a defective gauge and their vehicle not covered by the current recall(s). i don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but i hope nhtsa looks into it. i've checked with other online forums for nissans & there are many other people having the same problem. nc requires that we get our vehicles inspected every year. my truck will not pass with the service engine light on...please help! *tr
