Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2005 Nissan Armada

I have had a braking problem with my nissan armada for years & years. when driving, the brake light on the dash will come on & when you apply the brakes it will make a grinding noise & barely stop. yesterday, while i was driving 68 mph in the fast lane on the freeway the brake light, vdc light & slip light randomly came on the dash, i had not applied the brakes. i have included a picture of my dash yesterday when this occurred. i knew from experience that i now had compromised braking so i quickly pulled over to the right & got off the freeway at the first exit. my car slowly ground to a stop. it took a much longer distance to stop than it should have. as always, when you turn the car off & restart, it resets, and the brakes work again. whenever i have taken the car in & mentioned this problem they always act as if they have never heard of this problem before. the first time i experienced this was probably when the car was 2 years old & it has happened intermittently throughout the years, probably about 5 to 10 times a year. nissan must be aware of this problem, it is all over the internet if you investigate. *tr updated 06/17/13

Driving home about 45 mph, the brake light came on. i slowed down for the upcoming red light but the brakes did not work, they went into abs mode so i removed my foot from the pedal, re-applied pressure to the brake pedal and the brakes started pulsing and grinding violently. i could not stop for the red light so i dropped it down into 4th gear and made a hard right turn about 25 mph. thankfully there was little traffic so no accident and no one was hurt. i drove the remaining two miles homes at 25 mph and without using the brakes until i got to my driveway. i applied very light pressure on the brake pedal and little noise but not much stopping power, thankfully my driveway is uphill. when i got home i looked up armada brake failure and realized that there were hundreds of posts dating back to 2004, so this appears to be a common issue with the brake booster and computer. *js

When cruising at low speed when i release the gas pedal to let the truck coast, it feels like the brakes get applied slightly and the truck starts to loose speed. in my experience with all my automatic transmission cars is that when you release the gas pedal the car would coast and loose speed gradually. but in my armada it almost feels like the brakes are being applied very slightly. *tr

Same issue everyone else is having spongy brakes when pressed not stopping, loud grinding noise, major safety issue. can nhtsa help out the little guy for a change and order a recall for this safety issue at hand with all nissan armadas breaking systems. nissan is aware of the issues but does not want to fix its problem. i guess it takes a death to have them listen. in all reality its not the death that will cause them to listen or fix the issue at hand it will be the law suit against nissan for their unsafe practices. *kb

Driving fine then after stopping at a stop sign, car would not accelerate, like it is in a higher gear. after reaching 10mph it drives perfectly fine. if after stopping you cut the engine and restart, it is fine. reverse works fine. code p1757 comes up on test. a bad valve body. i've seen this all over the internet mostly on nissan '05 models, maybe some '06. very frustrating, nissan says i need a whole new transmission. i'm thinking a recall should be looked into. it doesn't seem to happen on other year models as much. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. the contact was driving 30 mph when the brakes were depressed and the vehicle failed to stop properly. the contact also stated that a loud grinding noise could be heard when the brakes were depressed. the vehicle was taken to both a local repair shop and the dealer but not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 86,000.

At slow speed, brakes appear to fail. grinding noise with very minimal braking as a result. turning off vehicle and restarting seems to clear the "trouble". would be dangerous in traffic situation. recurring yet very occasional problem. *tr

2005 nissan armada abs issues. vehicle brakes just start grindiing and grinding when brake is applied and braking power is at a minimum. if you turn off the vehicle and restart is seems to work for a while. this is a very intermittant problem but very very dangerous. i was applying brakes to slow down and turn into a grocery store drive and the brake light came on, they started making a horrible grinding noise like the brakes were falling apart....stopping power greatly dimished but luxkily i was able to pull to shoulder and limp into lot. once i turned it off and back on it has worked fine for several days...but very scared. *tt

While driving the 2005 nissan armada, experienced an engage of the braking system, clanging noise, loss of braking at the pedal, park light comes on. appears as though the abs system has engaged. armada remains locked in this position even after stopping. this condition is recoverable by turn off the power/key and restarting. seems like a computer just engaged the abs by mistake. dangerous! *kb

On three different occasions starting july 2011 and ending march 2015, the brakes failed after vdc/abs/slip warning lights were illuminated on a 2005 nissan armada. on one of the occasions, while attempting to stop, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor with little resistance. the vehicle failed to stop causing it to go through a busy intersection and just missed being struck by a tractor trailer. spent over $2000.00 in repairs and the problems persist. i no longer feel save in driving the vehicle and finally sold it at a lost. *js

Brakes on 2005 armada went out and started to grind and stick, could not duplicate after re starting vehicle and mechanic cannot get it to duplicate as well costing me money to have checked out each time it happens not the first time replaced pads the first time and re-occurs more often now very unsafe never know when brakes will engage sometimes drag without being applied. *tr

My brakes lock up on my 2005 nissan armada completely. the vehicle rattles and the front part makes a noise as if it is breaking apart. there is no warning when this is going to happen. the brake pedal locks and springs back. i turn the truck off for a few minutes and the issue goes away. other owners are having the same issue with the brakes electrical system. *tr

My 2005 nissan armada's air bag srs system is inoperable. the dashboard light indicated a failure of the airbag system while the vehicle was under warranty and i thought it was repaired after several instances. i have taken the vehicle to several mechanics to have the srs system repaired. nissan claimed it has been everything from the seatbelt tensioners, sensor modules under the seats to bad electrical connectors. all of these components have been replaced but my dash lights show i still have inoperative airbags. the srs system on my armada is currently in failure again and i cannot afford to pay nissan again to attempt to repair the problem. i also have a second issue with the abs brakes activating randomly during normal slow speed stops in which the brakes shake violently and with little stopping force. it seems the abs system is activating under light operational conditions. this has been a re-occurring problem each summer. nissan cannot duplicate the problem so i have been sent home without remedy. i am complaining because i have no other recourse except to warn others before someone is seriously hurt or killed through the failure of the brakes or the airbags. i am the original owner and the vehicle has not been modified in any manner. *tr

My husband was leaving work in 2005 nissan armada, he heard a strange grinding noise coming from front brakes as he tried to stop at a stop sign then realized he had no brakes. he managed to drive the 10 miles home with no brakes. we drove to nearest nissan dealer the next day and was told it was an electrical issue in the master brake cylinder and would cost 900.00 to fix. after checking online forums we realized this is an issue with many more owners, that nissan fails to do anything about. how many people have to get seriously hurt before nissan will admit that there is a serious issue with the brakes for this model. *tr

2005 nissan armada- our problem seems to be the same as countless others with no answer in sight. we will apply the brakes when we are at a slower speed (<30mph) and the brakes will fail. they pulsate, grind, and push in a spongey feel all the way to the floor with very minimal braking results. my wife drives this car with our 3 year old daughter so you can imagine our concern. we are planning to sell the car and get something else, but would like to have the brakes fixed first. but from what i see, nissan is going to do nothing to help and the government must be turning a blind eye to an issue that is obviously a serious safety risk for not just owners of these armadas, but for other drivers and pedestrians walking the streets as well. *kb

I have a 2005 nissan armada, the problem is complete brake failure. when traveling at slow speeds (<20mph) the brake system gives out completely. the brake pedal goes to the floor, the red brake dash light comes on and the abs and vdc systems go into a confused array of mixed signals and sounds trying to correct the failed brake system. at the time of failure the braking power is <25% of normal. in a panic stop or while trailering a load there would be no way to avoid a crash and injury. this failure occurred 5 times in one day before the vehicle was towed to nissan. the scariest part of this failure is that by turning the vehicle off and restarting it, resets the system failure and everything functions completely normal for a time, leading the driver to believe that it was just a computer error that needed reset. nissan reported that it was code c1179, delta sensor failure and required a new delta sensor and brake vacuum booster. the vehicle currently has only 39,458 miles on it. this is a major safety issue, this vehicle is rated to tow 9100lbs, when the failure occurs the vehicle can barely stop its own weight. the stopping distance during failure going 20mph was approx. 200 to 300 feet with only one occupant. nissan knew exactly what the problem was when i called them so i am not the only one to have this occurrence. upon researching i found 48 complaints that match mine on aboutautomobiles.com. these people all took the time like me to create an account and voice their concerns in much detail. this is a manufacturing defect that should not be occurring on any vehicle. please correct this problem before someone gets hurt!!

While driving on local streets. braking warning light came on. when applying brakes i could a hear grinding noise coming from the car and brake pedal feels springy. took it to local nissan dealer to have it check. but once the car is turned off and on. problems disappears. dealer unable to duplicate problems. once i took it home brake warning light came on again with the same problem. turn car on and off again problem disappears.

2005 nissan armada brake hydraulic failure. it happen at least once every other month ever since i own the armada back when it's about 15k miles. while driving at low speed and coming to a stop, the brake light led up and the braking system is useless, it make grinding sound, sound like springs popping out in front of the armada from tires. almost crash the armada into another car stopping in front several times due to useless brakes. took it the mossy nissan houston, they can't "replicate" the issue back years ago. once you shut off the armada, it reset and it went back to normal. and the problem continue, perhaps until someone get hurt or kill??????! *tr

While driving down the road i would be approaching a stop sign or light and i applied the brake and suddenly hear a loud grinding noise. when i pull over and turn the vehicle off and then start over, it was like it reset itself. i freaked out because i had children with me. nissan, please figure this out!!! also when i try to turn my air on or off i hear a very loud clicking noise. even while driving down the road without touching the air it just randomly does it. *tr

11/10/10 while driving the brake light came on and the truck was not responding to the brakes i heard a grinding noise and the problem went away after i turned the truck off and restarted it. it has happen like 4 times to my wife while driving with my kids so im very concerned about this problem. i went to the dealer and all they could say was that they needed to get the code for them to try to find out was wrong with it. if there's someone out there that can help before its too late and something serious happens. *tr

On 10/21/2010 the right rear brake caliper fell off of our 2005 nissan armada during vehicle operation. dealer inspected and stated caliper bolts were "missing" and my wife "had someone watching over her" and was lucky to not have sustained any injuries. vehicle has had no recent service to rear wheels or brakes. vehicle has approx. 77,000 miles. dealership has no explanation for incident other than vehicle being "tampered with" and tried to use theft of catalytic converters as an example. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan armada and on at least 4 occasions my brake light has come on while driving. when i apply the brakes they make a grinding noise and the vehicle vibrates and the brakes are not effective. so far i have not had anyone in front of me nor have the traffic lights been red. if they had i would have been involved in an accident. i have had to coast to the edge of the road or turn into a parking are. when i turn the vehicle off and re-start it the problem disappears. i went on line to a web site listing problems with the armada and find that mine is not the only one doing this. i think you need to recall these vehicles as there is something wrong. i know you wont as in my opinion most of you worthless government employees are useless and don't give a [xxx] about the safety of the citizens of this country. last happened october 10th 2010. *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

On a 2005 nissan armada this issue was previously reported under complaint #odi id number : 10339985. a summary of the problem:the issue/problem: the brake light comes on. when brakes are used, there is decreased braking power. the brakes make a crunching, springy noise with the pedal being extremely soft until it gets closer to the floor and begins to give braking power. when ignition is turned off, the problem resolves at least temporarily. *tr

I was operating my 2005 nissan armada on monday, september 20, 2010 when my brakes failed to operate correctly. fortunately, it did not cause an accident, but the brakes when applied did not cause the vehicle to stop and there was a grinding noise when i applied pressure to the pedal. i had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they discovered a code c1179 which required them to replace the brake booster sensor. the repair was over $800 which included the cost of towing the vehicle. i have learned that nissan issued a service bulletin for the issue on may 12, 2006. my husband complained to nissan, but they would not cover the cost of the repair. my vehicle had approximately 79,000 miles at the time of the incident. i am concerned with this issue because it was a failure of a safety system of the vehicle which i do not believe to be associated with normal wear and tear. in my situation, i had just replaced my front brake pads two months prior to the incident. my vehicle was well-maintained and regularly inspected by the dealer. *tr

Nissan 2005 armada 4x4, 50 k miles. 94 degrees sunny weather in rancho cordova, brakes completely failed in the lowes parking lot. there was some grinding noise but no forceful grip of the rotors. brake light came on. i slowly pulled over into a available parking slot, turned off the vehicle turned it on again in 2 minutes and the problem disappeared. people have been reporting similar issues http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16698 please investigate the issue before it results in serious accidents. *tr

Previously reported under complaint #odi id number : 10339985. a summary of the problem:the issue/problem: the brake light comes on. when brakes are used, there is decreased braking power. the brakes make a crunching, springy noise with the pedal being extremely soft until it gets closer to the floor and begins to give braking power. when ignition is turned off, the problem resolves at least temporarily. when the engine has turned off, i have had the problem reoccur as soon as 5 minutes and as long as 31 months. i made a video of one of my instances @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmtpofdbjr8 i first experienced the braking problem back in 3/06 with ~12,000 miles on the vehicle. the dealer was not able to duplicate the issue, but it had happened to me 3-4 times prior to getting it to the dealer. during the visit, they performed the judder brake bulletin service. the description of the judder brake bulletin did not seem to fit my problem, but the car no longer had the issue. then the issue recurred at ~46,000 miles in 10/08. again the brakes did not have full power for 3-5 times prior to getting it to the dealer. i was able to demonstrate the problem to my local mechanic, but when he shut down the engine, the problem resolved. i returned the car to the dealer. the computer did not have any repair codes stored, but they performed tsb 06-040, a computer software update. the car was fine until 6/25/10 when the problem recurred. it occurred three times throughout the day. i started tracking the occurrences: 6/27 x 1, 6/28 x1. i made a appointment with the service manager at the dealership on 6/29. i kept the car and it reproduced the problem 7/1 and 7/4@ 70,697miles. i made arrangements to allow them to take the car and get a loaner so that they could hopefully reproduce the problem. during this july 10 visit they had the car over 3 weeks and completed 2 software updates @ nc. on 9/2/10 @ 72,449 miles, the braking prob has recurred. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. while driving approximately 65 mph, there was excessive vibration during the engagement of the brake pedal. the contact continued driving and upon reaching the destination, the engine was turned off and restarted; the vehicle operated normally. the failure occurred again and the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the brake booster was replaced. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000. updated 3/7/11 *cn updated 05/20/11

Abs brakes engage while driving which causes a loud grinding noise to occur when i try to apply my brakes. the braking system does not seem to engage. it has happened 6 times in the past 8 weeks. the last one occurred 08/23/2010. *tr

When driving to work and going over a speed bump the brake light came on. the brake pedal went to the floor. i then started to feel the brake pedal vibrating, as if the abs had kicked on. this has happened several times. i proceed to pull to the side of the road and turned the ignition off. i learned that by doing so the computer resets itself and it goes away. i am concerned about this problem. i tow three quads in the weekend to have some fun, but i don't want to get into an accident when going down a hill on the way to my destination. i also carry my kids and that is my main concern. i have took it to the dealership and they don't see anything wrong with it? they could not duplicate because it doesn't happen often. i suggest checking the 05 on a downhill, that always seems to cause it to happen? *tr

In the most recent incident, i was driving the vehicle at slow speed (approx. 10 mph). when brake pedal was depressed, it went to the floor and the nose of the vehicle dove down. front brakes made a loud banging sound and vibration could be felt in vehicle cabin. there was a considerable reduction in brake performance, to the point of failure. brake light in vehicle illuminated as well. these same symptoms have occurred at various speeds, under various driving conditions more than a dozen times over a period of one year. vehicle was taken into local dealer today and a full description of the problem was provided. dealer re-programmed vdc (code 1179) at a cost to me, but would not guarantee this would permanently fix the problem. if problem persists, dealer recommends delt stroke sensor/brake booster replacement at considerable cost to me. at higher speeds, this condition could be deadly. *tr

3/28/2006 when braking there is intermittently a pulsation,75% decreased braking ability, brake light on. braking decrease is a hazard! : dealer found steering wheel shakes when braking. installed updated brake kit & brake judder bulletin. still occurring every once in a while . . .once ever several months, but cannot reproduce exact symptoms at dealer. 10/20/2008: when braking there is intermittently a pulsation, decreased braking ability, brake light on. symptom appeared and stopped at local mechanic. he tested car, but symptoms disappear when car shut off and restarted. dealer found no codes present. not able to reproduce problem. performed tsb 06-040 and advised it may not fix problem. software updated and problem seemed to be resolved until 6/25/2010: when braking there is intermittently a pulsation,75% decreased braking ability, brake light on. braking decrease is a hazard! reading about same problem in forums without a good solution. hate to be a death or injury to get this problem noticed. will take back to the dealer, but expect the same "not sure it is fixed" response. *tr

While driving the brake (not mashing the brakes)light comes on and the brake sounds as if it is grabbing. vehicle has little brakes. vehicle has to be turned off and restarted to resolve problem. the problem is intermittent. it has been to the dealership a few times and they cannot find anything wrong. *tr

Multiple brake failures with my 2005 nissan armada. nissan motor america is well aware of the serious safety defects in my vehicle but will not honor the 2 times of a major system failure to replace the vehicle. this is the 4th time i have had a major brake failure on the vehicle including its systems and computer components. parts have been replaced in my vehicle 4 times. the last time, i was assured by a dtc from california who flew up to wa who authorized the replacement of the entire braking system which failed again "it would never happen again". multiple failures on the diagnostics revealed codes which was again authorized the replacements of parts from a consumer affairs regional manager: codes: vehicle dct c11110-controller failure, p1832 tcs op signal, p1831-vdc op signal, p1828 -line pres. in short, master vaccum, master cylinder, abs control unit, all were replaced again. nissan fp numbers: 47660-zq21b actuator assy. 47210-zc01c master vac assy, 46010-7s20a cyl brake master, wiring connectors, brake fluid...etc, etc. this is another failure attempt for nissan to skirt the seriousness of this issues of my vehicle and hundreds of others if not thousands. service advisor from town nissan in wenatchee mentioned that the rotors has been turned. work not performed. lied to me as a customer. now i have major break fade from my vehicle being tested from the dealership to try and duplicate the failure initially and road testing it for proper function. the first 3 brake failures occurred within the first 2 years of the vehicles life. 3200 miles - rotors failed, 5800 miles-major brake failure all components replaced. 13,000 miles-another major brake failure, parts replaced again, 22,000 miles rotors warped & replaced. 28,000 miles, brake failure again, major systems replaced again. 49,000 miles again brakes failed. major systems replaced. when will nissan listen? after a death in a school zone? crosswalk? myself? replacement of parts is a poor attempt for nissan. *tr

I'm driving less than 5 miles in the school parking lots and all suddenly my brakes make a loud noise and the brake lights turn on. i had to turn my car off and turn it back on. this is unsafe for my family while this incident happened, my daughters were in the car with me. i was afraid for the life of my daughters. this incidents regarding the brake happened to me more than 5 times already. nissan should had this recall. i had my mechanic check it out, he gave me a code c1179 delta stroke sensor signal fault meaning the brake booster and abs unit . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada le. the contact stated that while applying the brakes, the brake pedal was abnormally depressed into the floorboard. the emergency hand brake was engaged and the vehicle was shut off. the vehicle resumed normal operation once restarted but the emergency brake warning light was illuminated. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

Brake lock up while driving resulting in abrupt stop of vehicle. *tr

Vehicle: 2005 nissan armada failure: complete failure of the brake system incident: while driving lost complete brake system, leaving me with no ability to stop the vehicle. the problem resolved itself by restarting the vehicle. resolution: i took the vehicle to the dealer and was told they could not repeat the issue and that they would "reflash" the ecm that "should" correct the problem. after researching this i found many other owner of 2004 - 2007 nissan armada and titan vehicle had the same problem. the problem is best described as an intermittent complete failure of the brake system that is resolved by restarting the vehicle. after many complaints to nissan and the dealer they decided to replace the power brake booster saying that any component failure that causes this must be contained in the brake booster. they also stated that they have replaced other customers brake boosters with the same problem. this is a major safety issue that nissan needs to make there customers aware of!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. the contact was decelerating to exit the freeway when she heard an unusual grinding noise. she attempted to engage the brakes but to no avail. she then moved the vehicle off the roadway and shut off the engine. when restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the dealer performed a diagnostic and discovered that the vehicle computer would need to be reprogrammed to repair the braking system. the vehicle was left with the dealer awaiting repairs. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

I have a 2005 nissan armada that has had anti lock brakes engaging at all different times in conditions that it should not be engaging in(example:sunny, clear road ,90 degree summer weather)this leaves me with very little braking ability.this is a major safety issue especially when i have small children in my vehicle. i have brought it to the nissan service dept. several times and they tell me that everything is fine and cannot replicate the problem. i have googled the problem on the net and found numerous sites with pages upon pages of complaints over this same problem with my exact scenarios of driving conditions and what happens to the vehicle. i proceeded to nissan headquarters to explain my problem and that i am not the only one that nissan has failed to help. they refuse to recognize that this is a major safety issue happening to numerous nissan armadas years 2004 thru 2006. i said i want a rental paid for by them and i want nissan to keep the car till they can rectify this obvious wide known safety problem. they told me that nissan is not responsible for this problem nor acknowledges it & that the vehicle owners are and at vehicle owners cost to drop off the vehicle for a undetermined amount of time(this could be a week to many weeks before problem occurs again & it is stated by numerous owners that is how undetermined when it happens)till they can hopefully replicate the problem and repair it at owners cost along with rental vehicle cost. this is not a wear and tear problem caused by the owners of this vehicle model this is a manufacture defect that nissan refuses to admit and create a recall on this anti lock brake system. they also proceeded to tell me that if i can't afford a rental for who knows how many weeks that it could be to wait till the problem occurs myself and drive it to the dealer. that is a unacceptable unsafe answer form them to tell the consumer to drive your vehicle till you have no brakes then bring it in. something must be done! *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada. i was driving and starting to brake when all of a sudden my brake light came on and a loud grinding noise was heard from the front of my armada. i almost lost braking capability. i applied the brakes again and the same thing happened with the loud noise and limited braking ability. i pulled over on the side of the road, turned the vehicle off and restarted the truck and the problem was gone for that moment. a few weeks later, it happened again, so i took it into the nissan dealer and they told me it was a code error and it had been reset (it was still under warranty then). well, it has since happened about 10 more times. i had my husband take it to another nissan dealer and they told him it was the brake booster, and would cost approximately $900 to fix. we did not pay the money to have fixed. the last incident was this morning with my two small daughters in the truck with me. i was in 3 lanes of traffic and was starting to apply the brakes, when the brake light came on and the vdc light and two other panel lights. this morning, it was the worst it had been since it started. i normally have a little bit of brakes, but this morning when i tapped the brakes, it brought the vehicle to a complete sudden stop in 3 lanes of traffic, then, i let off the brake and tried to ease up and reapply the brakes and it brought it to a complete stop again. i turned the truck off and it cleared itself. i called my husband and told him. once i got to work, i started to do some research and i find that i am not the only person experiencing this problem! i count myself lucky this morning that i was not rear ended because i had my two small daughters in my truck with me!!!! nissan needs to do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

2005 nissan armada , when i was driving the suv and suddenly the brake lock in. the master cylinder for the brake system just locked in and the brake light is on. i replaced the brake fluid in the reservoir and it is still the same. i also replaced the master cylinder. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada, and when i drove the suv and suddenly i heard the brake make a grinding loud noise and the brakes locked in. then the brake light turns on and the master cylinder for the brake system just locked in. i was driving 15 miles in the parking lot. i then changed the brake fluid and master cylinder. the brakes still locked in. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada. while driving the abs and emergency brake light would start flashing. when i come to a stop the braking system starts to make a loud grinding noise like the abs has kicked in and wont disengage. the only way to temporarily correct this is to shut the vehicle off and then restart the vehicle. this has been identified as a recall for nissan armadas 2004 and older. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada and the brakes have been giving me problems since i bought the suv. initially it was only warped rotors and excessive brake pad wear, but now the brakes have nearly failed on me three times. when i applied the brakes, it appears that the anti-lock brakes kick in, the brake pedal depresses further, and a loud groaning noise can be heard emanating from the brakes. this problem has occurred three times in the rain under very moderate braking condition (parking lot conditions) and when the parking brake has been used due to parking on a hill. when the event occurs the parking light , the slip, and vdc lights comes on. *tr

We have a 2005 nissan armada (which was purchased new) it has had an issue where the "brake" light comes on and there is rapid pulsating/grinding noise from the brake system. during this event, the brake stopping distance is severely impacted and braking is dangerously inconsistent. we have brought vehicle into nissan dealer and been told because there "is no current stored code" they could not do anything for us and that we needed "to drive the vehicle in while this event occurred", so they could see what happened. there is no way it would be remotely safe to do so!!!! nissan you are requesting a very unsafe procedure!!!!!! each time this brake issue has happened (at least 6 with my wife and 1 with me), we were fortunate enough to pull the vehicle over and turn it off. in doing so it appears the vehicle "reset" and once turned back on the vehicle appeared to operate properly. here are our occurrences: - once on/or around 9/2005- didn't think much at this point as we already had heard about issues with rotors and thought that was connected - 4/23/2007- went to dealer - 8/13/2008- called dealer told to drive it in while it was happening by dealer - right before 10/8/2008 on 10/8 we brought into dealer for this problem and a couple other issues - 5/14/2009 - 5/18/2009 - 5/26/2009 it happened to me with both of my grade school boys on vacation in rush hour traffic in northern california. the vehicle had a very clear issue and i had to make some tough traffic negotiations to get off of the freeway. once off i turned off the vehicle and sat there for a short period of time. i turned it back on and luckily made it to my destination without further incident. i will be speaking with the nissan dealership again, to give them one last chance to try and fix this issue. they have done nothing as of yet and appear to lack any interest in fixing this problem. take a look at any forums or car complaint web-sites there are numerous such complaints for same issue. *tr

Brake light comes abs fails and makes grinding noise. when i shut the car off it resets the computer light goes off then its back to normal. *tr

When driving and when the brake is applied to stop the brake light comes on and the brakes sound like they are scrubbing and the brake petal goes to the floor the vehicle slows a little but it is still rolling. the vehicle then has to be put in park, the engine then has to be turned off. you then have to wait a few seconds and restart vehicle. if this is not done the light doesnt go off and the braking is the same. also the front passenger door lock works randomly. i have this problem also with my infiniti g35 which is also made by nissan, i have two friends that own nissan vehicles that experience the same problem with their door lock on the front passenger side. *tr

Backing out of a driveway, i pushed on the brakes softly and it sounded like a deep, mechanical groan. i didn't really think anything of it until i reached my first stop. i applied pressure on the brake and the sound was there again. my children were in the vehicle and they kept asking what was wrong with the car. i decided it would be safer to take neighborhood side-streets. i proceeded very, very slowly because the breaks were unpredictable at that point. i was scared to apply all the pressure because i was afraid that if i pressed as i normally do , the brakes would just give out, so i pushed on the brake very lightly, which only made it worse because the softer i pressed the less it functioned, the pedal just kept going down- making that deep metal-grinding noise, it took a while for the breaks to actually kick it and stop the vehicle. i drove on egg-shells the rest of the way home, thank goodness there was not much traffic at the time, otherwise i would have been in serious trouble. i fear this happening in the freeway because that would be tragic- especially with children in the car. *tr

Regarding 2005 nissan armada brake issue...i was driving reaching to the speed of 35mph and when i came to a stop at intersection i notice that my brake light was on. applied the brakes and there was no brakes. you could hear noise coming from the front end like metal grinding. i pulled over the a parking lot and check under the hood to see if the brake fluid was low, but it was full. drove the car the elk grove nissan and told them what had happened. in response, they told me that they can not find a problem and continue driving the car until the light comes back on and drive it directly to the dealership so they can pull the cold. i told them that they are crazy, because this is a safety issue and i can put my life in danger by driving the suv there without proper brakes. they told me at the time, they can not help me until the light comes back on. i asked the dealership to see if there's a recall or bulletin out for this and they told me no. further investigation needs to follow up on this because tons of people who owns this model could die from accidents due to the suv having this problem. also, proper protocol needs to be follow with the mfg and dealership regarding this issue. please advise. this matter needs to be address to the dealership and fix the darn problem before many lives are lost due to this matter. they need to seek proper procedures before a big law suit is in place. *tr

I was driving in a residential area and attempted to stop and i couldn't. the brakes started making a grinding noise and the e-brake light came on. it slowed down enough for me to pull to the side and finally able to make a complete stop. i put it in park checked the e-brake and it wasn't on and put back into drive when the vehicle was in a slow roll i checked the brakes and it did the same thing. i put it in park turned it off and called mt husband. when turned he turned it back on the e-brake light was off and the brakes worked. *tr
