We have classified the 69 complaints from 2004 Nissan Armada about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. the contact stated while traveling at any speed, the abs sensor illuminated and there was a loud springing sound intermittently coming from the brakes. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. the technician cleared the computer for the vdc code, replaced the ball bearings and the differential housing. the failure recurred. the contact had to continuously turn off the vehicle and restart it in order to reset the abs sensor and the vdc sensor to no avail. the vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id numbers: 07e046000 (equipment). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000. pam updated 8/11/14*cn
on above date i was driving my vehicle down on the hwy slowing down to exit off. i turned on my air conditioning unit and it started to make a hissing noise from underneath the dashboard. i couldn't figure what could have gone since i recently had my vehicle inspected at conocelli nissan on ridge pk. i took my vehicle back in and i was told me air conditioner lines were rusted and leaking. i asked how can that happen? no one could give me an answer. no one understood how my lines rusted on a vehicle that is not that old. i was told nissan is supposed to use rust free lines for the armada's. last year i had to pay for my muffler to be replaced for the same reason. i am being charged a great deal of funds for repairs that can not be explained as to how these things occur, my vehicle is not that old. if you have any answers please let me know. i too like other armada owners has had numerous breaking problem which almost lead to a collision, that would have put my family at risk. the dealership couldn't figure out what was going on. they believe it was the abs system but they rather try to reset the electrical system first. . *tr
Applied brakes , brake light went on abs stopped working, brakes groan. they work at 10 %. please see youtube enter armada brake system problem. there are 100's of complaints for the exact same failure. there is a problem in the brake booster. once you shut off the vehicle and restart it the abs resets until the next occurrence. this has occurred many times over the years, this system failure will cause death if not addressed. *jb
On june 6, 2012, while traveling approximately 10 mph i applied the brakes to stop and the pedal hit the floor, there was little or no resistance on the brake pedal and i heard crunching, metal on metal sound. also, the vdc off, slip and abs lights were on. i immediately pulled over, turned the truck off and on to reset it, and it worked, however, i began to travel a few miles and it happened again. i went to a local service station and code c1179 delta stroke sensor popped up. the technician test drove the truck and it ran well with no problems. the truck was fine until june 13, 2012, while leaving the supermarket it happened again. i was traveling no more than 10 mph and the brakes failed. i tried to reset it as i did before, however this time it didn't work. i had to turn the car off and on several times in order for it to reset. once it was reset, i began to drive home and it happened again. so again, i pulled over to reset it and after several attempts it worked. this issue is very unsettling due to the fact that i have small children. this is my only method of transportation and i need this resolved as soon as possible.*jb
While driving my vehicle at approx 45mph i was coming up upon a traffic light intersection and attempting to slow down. when i applied the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor and i heard a loud grinding noise from the front of the vehicle. luckily i was able to get through the intersection without injuring or killing someone. i immediately pulled to the side of the road and called for assistance. the vehicle was checked out by my mechanic and he advised me that a c1179 dtc was showing up in the computer. he also said tsb was on file for this problem but that i would need to take it to the dealer to have it fixed. i scheduled an appointment with the dealer and they "performed the repair". a week later, i was driving the vehicle and the same thing happened, the brake pedal went to the floor, the grinding noise was heard. i have another appointment scheduled with the dealer. nissan must be aware of this serious problem and should do something about it. there are many complaints for this problem when i searched the web. i also found a lawsuit against nissan that is being heard in us district court on 4/26/12. the nhtsa should act on this quickly before someone is injured or killed. nissan has done nothing accept charge for the "repairs". *js
2004 nissan armada brake failure while driving, this is at random times causing us to panic in traffic.this has been an on going problem with no fix and this is very scary and unsafe.and the only solution is hope that you get to a safe place without injuries or death occurring. turn it off and back on and drive until it does it again. so taking a risk everyday and praying that something be done with this is like an awakening nightmare waiting to happen just don't know when. thanks for your cooperation with this safety issue. *tr
2004 nissan armada; i've been monitoring these reports for years and find it ridiculous that nissan is incompetent in dealing with this issue. this has been an issue since the advent of the armada platform. i have had this same abs issue since we purchased the car in feb 2005. although the issue can be resolved or reset by turning off the engine and restarting, it does nothing to ward off close calls in traffic or busy streets with pedestrians. i've heard everything from replacing the computer, brake booster, pressure equalization valve...etc. these are all blind attempts to do something if not anything. the problem needs to be resolved definitely and the remedy applied unilaterally across the armada line. the grinding noise, i believe is not at the rotors, it is a spring like resonance that comes from the brake booster and the millisecond pressure reaction to each of the wheels. it sounds like someone hits a large coil spring with a hammer. i can't tell, but is this problem limited to just the 2004 models? come on nissan...do the right thing before someone gets hurt! *kb
Driving 2004 nissan armada se off road traveling at low speed (20 mph or less) in traffic. brake light comes on in the dashboard, brake pressure goes to near nothing (have to push pedal all the way to floor to stop car) and brakes make a grinding noise under the steering column. car stops eventually but no confidence car would stop suddenly. problem is fixed temporarily if car is turned off and restarted. happens intermittently could go 3-4 weeks without a problem, but everytime seems to be at low speed in traffic with repetitive use of the brakes. nissan dealer can't replicate problem and can't diagnose problem without seeing car with brake failure indicator still on. they are recommending potentially replacing abs computer $1,500 but no guarantee that will fix problem. *kb
Sudden and complete failure of the braking system. brake pedal becomes hard to push and the brakes issue a scrapping and grinding noise. very scary. brakes become unusable and it is clear that the abs controller has somehow come one at an inappropriate time such that the braking system is not operating properly. if this occurred at high speed, it would surely cause a major accident. this has happened several times with this vehicle and there are many other accounts with other vehicle. you are referred to the website of armada.com for the same. nissan should have recalled these vehicles long ago for repairs. i am told that some dealers are reprogramming the computer and are charging owners for this inherent defect in these vehicle and poor design from the factory. this rampant condition which affects thousands of vehicle in the u.s. both nissan armada of all years 2004-present and nissan luxury companion vehicles under the infinity qx design. the above prevalent defect is a clear and present danger to all owners of armada and qx vehicles. nissan knows about this, but has failed and refused to issue a recall. they should be directed to do so, or be heavily penalized for failure to repair these vehicle to prevent future injury to vehicle owners and their families. updated 08/31/11 *bf
I have a 2004 nissan armada, and i was driving when the brake light came on and the abs system engaged on its own and i lost braking power. i shut the car off and the problem went away this is a very serious problem that someone can get hurt or be killed from. i contacted nissan, and im going to take it to the dealership for diagnosis. please look into this matter before someone dies. *kb
2004 nissan armada. brake failure, loud grinding, vibration, would not stop. turned car off, then back on, and problem was gone. i suspect its a computer related issue that will eventually cause a serious accident. *tr
Vehicle brake light comes on, brake makes a springy sound, brakes become spongy and it is difficult to stop. once we came to a stop turned the vehicle off then on and the issue went away. it's scary to put my family back in the vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving approximately 20 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brakes and heard a loud grinding noise. he was unable to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, causing the pedal to jerk. he was forced to use the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test which concluded that the brake booster failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer did not offer any assistance. the current and failure mileages were 67,287.
Brake failure on 2004 nissan pathfinder armada: there is a known issue that nissan is not doing anything to prevent accidents from catastrophic accidents due to failure of abs system. they have a tsb ntb-060 out and dealer would re-flash the abs system to fix the issue for an hour labor charge. i had this happen to my armada on 1/26/2011 and found 1000's of user with issue on different discussion forums on the internet. i am filing this complain to make sure nissan usa will take this matter seriously. symptom if issue: brake light comes on, brake paddle will go to the floor and spring cracking noise comes from front end. brake does not work 95% to the capacity. nissan dealer will try to sell a new brake booster pump for $1000 if customer is not aware this is a known issue with 2004-2005 nissan armada, and titan. i had my baby in the back and had to drive 5 miles to home with non existing brake. please follow through nissan to make sure they take care of issues so it does not happen to other people and lives are lost due to a defect that manufacturer should recall. i have uploaded a 23 second ling video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3lvsfqjxxq [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Symptom: nissan vehicle looses braking ability when this symptom happens. brake light comes on the dashboard, brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, and there is grinding noise from the front end toward the wheels. vehicle braking ability is reduced to 10% or less. turning ignition off/on resolves for short time, but not a permanent fix. nissan has tsb ntb06-040 to clear the code c1179 from brake module. i had preformed at my cost and issue came back. called nissan and opend a file number 7181591, but they are blaming it on me, not the flaw that is happening to 100's of other armadas including me. i am requesting safecar.gov to probe nissan about the brake issue that is affecting 2004 armada, titan, and infinity qx56 and to find out if they are doing anything to fix it. links of discussion on different forums: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0ffea4/0 http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-problems-dealer-service/111660-brake-light-came-soft-abs-feeling-pedal-2.html http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12333
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving 25 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brakes but they failed to operate and did not stop the vehicle. she would turn the vehicle off and then on again but the brakes remained operable. the failure occurred intermittently since january 2011. the dealer replaced the rear parking brake shoe on the passenger side and both rotors however, the failure persisted. the contact was awaiting further repairs. the current mileage was 83,000 and the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving at approximately 55 mph the brake light illuminated on the dashboard. pressure was applied to the brake pedal, which depressed all the way to the floor. during the failure a grinding noise could be heard and the vehicle took a longer period of time to stop than usual. he stated this has been a recurring failure since the purchase of the vehicle. the vehicle has been taken to authorized dealers as well as independent repair shops where they have been unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continues to recur intermittently. the failure and current mileages were unavailable. the vin was unavailable. updated 11/05/10. *lj
2004 nissan armada with internal failure of the brake booster. *kb the fist time the consumer experienced brake failure, nissan agreed to replace the brake booster as a good faith gesture. however, on friday july 9, 2010, she again experienced a problem with the brakes. when she turned off the vehicle and restarted it again, the dashboard lights went out and the brakes seemed normal. on friday july 16, 2010 while driving 30 mph, the consumer attempted to brake and once again she experienced complete brake failure and the lights on the dashboard illuminated. fortunately, she was on a straight gravel path and was able to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the consumer returned to the dealer. they then claimed the problem was an internal failure in the maser cylinder, but would not provide her with a copy of the diagnostic codes to substantiate that the problem was indeed different. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and came to a complete stop when the brake pedal locked. he then applied the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle had to be restarted in order for the brakes to function properly. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. the failure occurred three different times. the approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Today, my family & i almost bought the farm when the brakes went out on a freeway off ramp on our way back from phoenix. we exited the freeway at 70 mph and i applied the brakes to stop at the light. the brakes made a loud scraping noise, were non-functional and we were approaching cross traffic at 60 - 70 mph. i immediately dropped the car into neutral, started to apply the parking brake and headed for the dirt on the side of the road, figuring i would rather hit a tree or fence than t-bone a vehicle in the cross traffic. i was able to stop the vehicle by rubbing the passenger tires on the curb to create friction to stop. the vehicle mileage today is 61,707. the problem could not be duplicated as we had turned the vehicle off & apparently when restarted, it rebooted a sensor that caused the problem. (info from nissan dealer). this is the 3rd time in less than 3 months that this has happened. it is a severe safety issue and someone will end up dead due to this problem if nissan does not fix it. the consumer stated the brakes were replaced a total of five times within a years time. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed the problem was a malfunctioning sensor in the master cylinder or the power brake booster. the air conditioning system failed and the overhead console fell down while driving. updated ivoq 07/15/10.*jb *tr the consumer stated the issue has not been resolved and has become worse. the consumer stated his wife received a traffic citation for going through a stop sign because the brakes failed as she attempted to stop. often, when the brake was applied, the pedal would go straight to the floor and a loud metallic scraping sound could be heard and the entire vehicle shakes. the only way to resolve the issue, per a technician at a local nissan dealer was to coast to a stop and shut the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, then start it again. the technician stated it resets a sensor in the brake booster and the brakes will work fine for a short time. updated ivoq 09/15/11
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. the contact stated brakes were replaced a total of three tmes since purchasing the vehicle brand new in 2004. the dealer advised that the braking system of his particular year and model was not designed for a vehicle his size and the 2005 and older models. the contact stated the failure was a safety issue because he may potentially not be able to stop the vehicle. the failure mileage was 19,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. updated 08/12/10 *bf updated 08/17/10*jb
Brakes on suv have failed to work as designed on multiple occasions due to non-mechanical issues. problems may stem from electrical or sensor issues. the brake light indicator displays on the dashboard and the suv automatically locks up the brakes. the problems has been duplicated with a repair technician but they cannot find the source of the problem. *tr
While exiting the freeway, going approx. 45 mph the brakes on my 2004 nissan armada completely went out. when i pressed on the brake pedal i heard an awful grinding noise and the felt a vibration throughout the car and the pedal just went to the floor. the 'brake' light lit up on the dash and the emergency brake pedal moved 4-5 inches upwards from its normal position. this was the first time my brakes have completely gone out. i wasn't stopping and narrowly missed plowing into the back of a delivery truck. i was able to pull over at a safe place and call a tow truck- it was towed to a nissan dealership. according to the dealer, my brake booster assembly was defective and they would replace it to the tune of $1300. it is still at the dealership being repaired. i reported this to nissan hq on 5/6/2010 as well. i had 2 kids in the car with me at the time and this was an extremely terrifying event! *tr the consumer stated the dealer informed her the vehicle needed a new brake booster assembly. the consumer stated there have been no other failures since the brake booster was replaced. the consumer did notice there was a difference in braking ability when she applied the brake. the dealer stated there was nothing wrong. updated 10/08/10
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. the contact stated while trying to decelerate the brakes would pulsate and slowly come to a stop. the abs lights also illuminated on the instrumental panel. the vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic who informed her to replace the brake pads. the vehicle was repaired and the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was also inspected by the dealer who advised the contact that there were no visible signs of a failure. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000. the vin was unavailable.
We have a 2004 nissan armada that has had complete brake failure. what happens is the brakes begin to jump/jitter and then there is 100% brake failure---there are no brakes period! we've talked to nissan and taken the car to the dealership and they say there is nothing wrong with the brakes. we don't know what else to do, we can't sell the suv because we would be passing a life threatening problem to someone else and we cannot drive it because the brakes will fail. to solve the problem at the time they fail obe has to turn off the car, remove the key from the start switch, and then turn the engine again. this seems like the type of problem that the computer controls since the problem temporarily disappears after resetting the computer. can you help? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. the contact stated that on 3-4 occasions, when he applied the brakes, the brake light illuminated and he heard a grinding and pulsating noise; the brake pedal would also extend to the floorboard. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the manufacturer had not been notified. the current mileage was approximately 60,000. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. updated 01/11/2011*lj the consumer stated he would have to turn the vehicle off and then turn it back on again in order for the problem to be corrected. a mechanic informed the consumer, the problem was the abs or computer system. the consumer stated while driving, the vehicle lost all power and then the brake light illuminated. updated 03/30/11
We own a 2004 nissan armada which we purchased less than 1 year ago. since then, there has been 3 or more instances in which i've lost complete braking on the car. the last incident occurred this january 13th. i've taken the vehicle to a local specialized brake shop and was subsequently told that there is a known defect with the abs system and subsequently triggering the brake and abs sensors on the dash to light up. we verified this with nissan and they too acknowledged that there is a known defect with regards to the abs malfunctioning causing the vehicle to lose breaking at low speeds. after calling nissan they have refused to recall this known defect and have offered to try and find the cause by starting out with replacing break sensors, abs computer, master cylinder with all costs incurred on us and no guarantee the problem would be fixed. the car has the abs system disabled at the moment so i can get to and from picking my children up from school. however, i cannot drive the vehicle under wet conditions as it could be dangerous to do so. nissan should be held accountable and we should not have to pay out of our pocket to resolve a known defect that could cause serious injury or death. *tr
My 2004 nissan armada brakes failed at 24,500 miles. they were replaced by the dealer under a tb due to shaking and premature wear at 16,000 miles. the brake lights suddenly came on and brakes started to shake making me lose control. checked brake and they were down to metal at less then 10,000 miles. *tr
Sinking brake pedal with diminished stopping power. pedal sinks to floor. vehicle must be turned off multiple times to regain power . this has happened sporadically. dealer has not offered a solution. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving approximately 15 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and it extended to the floorboard. the brake light also illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated the ignition turned off on it own. the contact noticed a burning odor prior to the failure. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician stated the passenger side caliper was broken. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
2004 nissan armada brake failure problem. about every 4-6 months the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor with very limited stopping power. there is a grinding sound while applying brakes. to me seems to be a matter of time when i smash into something. *tr
2004 nissan armada intermittent brake failure. *nj the consumer stated the incidents occurred without warning, or any indication on the dashboard that the brakes were malfunctioning. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the brake failure. the dealer suggested that the master cylinder and booster be replaced at a cost of $1,200. *jb
2004 nissan armada - brake failure. this is an on-going problem. i have contacted nissan in the past to open a claim. the person on the phone recommended i take it to the dealer (which we had done at least 3 times prior). we took it to the dealer and they indicated that there was 'no trouble/problem found' (only one time prior did they update the code to the computer - all other times - no trouble found). i mention that we have taken it to the dealer 3 or 4 times, but according to my wife who drives this car every day, this happens to her at least once a month - that is over 20 times since we have owned it! i cannot afford to keep taking my car to the dealer, renting a car for the day - just to have 'no trouble found'. quite frankly, my wife does not feel safe driving the car. i know there have been other incidents of this problem registered. i just would like it fixed once and for all so my wife and children do not have to keep putting their lives at risk, wondering if the brakes are going to work or not. please help. *tr
I was driving down highway when i heard a light knock and noticed brake light on. when i tried to apply brakes they started making a grinding sound and it was very hard to stop the vehicle. i pulled over to a nearby parking lot and turned vehicle off, when i restarted brake light was off and brakes where working. this has happened several times. mechanic said brakes were fine each time. *kb
While driving at only 10 mph coming to a stop at a stop sign, the brake light came on and the brake failed to work. a grinding and scrapping noise was made and eventually the vehicle came to a stop. turned the car off and on again then brake light turned off and brakes worked fine. this has happened 7-10 times since then at sporadic times. the last time i was on the highway going 60 mph with my 3 children in the car. this is going to kill someone if it is not taken care of. i have had the brakes and rotors done twice. i continually take it to the dealer for them to find something wrong and repair it, each time i am told nothing can be found. please fix this problem!!! it is extremely dangerous. *tr
Luckily, i was only driving 25 mph on my way home from taking my kids to school back in march. i approached the stop sign by my house and applied the brake, but to my surprise the truck wasn't stopping. i held the brake down and nothing. i went right thru the stop sign and kept braking. finally my speed had decelerated enough to come to a stop. i turned off the car and then turned it back on again and could not get it to repeat what had happened. the truck seemed to be stopping fine now. i thought that maybe i hit a patch of oil. i told my husband and he said the same thing. then about 2 weeks later the same thing happened to him. we have had our truck for 3 years now and this had occurred prob. 4-6 times. we have had the brakes and rotors replaced. this still did not solve the problem. hopefully nissan can figure out why this is happening and fix it before something awful happens to someone. *tr
With in five minutes of driving the brake light came on and when the brakes were applied, there was a lack of brake pressure and a grinding sound was heard. the vehicle had very minimal breaking power and i would not be able to stop the vehicle by the brakes alone, coasting is required. if the vehicle is turned off and restarted, the system will reset and the brakes will return to normal operating condition. within the last year this has happened at least once a month. last year, the brake light came on and i carefully drove it 2-3 miles to a local nissan dealership. they ran a diagnostic test, while the brake light was on, which revealed a failure of the delta stroke sensor (c1179). i asked the mechanic to drive it and experience the lack of brakes but by the time he drove it the system had reset itself. the diagnosis cannot be done unless the brake light is on. there are numerous complaints online about other's having this problem as well as class action lawsuit pending. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving 60 mph, a warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle has been to the dealer approximately three times for repair. the first time it was taken to have the brakes repaired for making grinding noises. the contact stated that she was using the wrong brakes. when the accelerator pedal is depressed, the pressure goes down and the vehicle decelerates. the contact would have to bring the vehicle to the dealer in order to determine the cause of the failure. in addition, there is a clicking noise coming from the transmission. the dealer cannot locate the cause of the failures. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 84,000. updated 05/08/09. *lj the right side exhaust manifold was replaced and the engine light had illuminated. updated 05/11/09.*jb
While exiting the interstate, went around the exit ramp. the brakes depressed farther than normal and made a grinding sound. the brake indicator lights came one. the vehicle shook while i tried to brake. i narrowly missed the guardrail and managed to keep the vehicle in control. i was able to slow down, although it took longer than it should have, and i drove slowly to a service station nearby. the vehicle was examined, and i was told i had been driving with the parking brake on and that the brakes had just "heated up". i wasn't driving with the parking break on though. it happened again a few weeks later and was taken to a different service station. they informed me that it needed to go to the dealer to have the service codes pulled, and that there had been braking issues with the model and year. further investigation online revealed it can be fixed by shutting car off. it has happened several times since then, at random times with no antecedent. i drive cautiously and leave plenty of braking room, as i am nervous about the performance of the brakes and my ability to stop. please have nissan address and fix this dangerous problem!
I own a 2004 armada i been having many problems with brakes it happens a few times driving the car starts to feel so heavy y slowing down so i stopped and the front brakes where so so hot and smelling burn with smog so after that happens to me like 4 times this past monday the caliper fell off and the dealer people said the recall is not for this truck? *tr
My wife has a 2004 nissan armada and i have a 2004 nissan titan. both vehicles have had a total failure of the abs system twice in the last month. the symptoms are a grinding noise form the brakes, the brake warning light on, and inefficient stopping power no matter the amount of pressure exerted on the pedal. after shutting down the engine and restarting, the symptoms disappear. the computer does not record any failure code and the dealer explained that nissan has a technical bulletin that specifies to reprogram the vehicle computer but it does not guarantee the problem will not recur. neither is this procedure covered under the warranty of the vehicle. i researched the problem in nissan internet forums and it looks like it is a fairly common problem as i was able to find numerous reports of the same. i think this is a major safety issue since it does affect the stopping ability of the vehicle, and almost assures an accident if the vehicle is traveling at anything more than parking lot speeds. *tr
My brake warning light is or was on, and/or the abs warning light is or was on, and there is a vibration in the brake pedal while braking. i had little or no braking power. i had to stop the vehicle thank god i was going fast. usually this occurs as i start up the vehicle. after the issue i would stop the car and turn off the engine. after a few minutes i would restart the vehicle and the brake light was no longer on and the brake noises were gone as well. please help! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada.the contact stated that intermittently when driving the service brake warning light illuminates on the instrument control panel, then the vehicle shimmies. simultaneously he has to use heavy brake application to decelerate. usually he has to restart the engine to reset the brake sensor. brake failure increases the risk of vehicle crash. he took the vehicle to dealer and had the abs sensor replaced. the repair did not remedy the failure. the failure mileage was 73,000. the current mileage was 90,000.
This happens randomly and not on a regular basis. sometimes once a week other times twice a week. when you bring the vehicle to a stop be it a stop sign or light, it does stop the vehicle no problem, but upon taking your foot off the brake and trying to drive away, the brakes will not release. if you try and drive the vehicle, it makes all kinds of noise and will barely move. this has happened so many times, that i learned how to get the brakes to release. upon this happening, you put the car in park, shut the engine off, wait a minute and restart the vehicle and the brakes are fine. i have gone to the dealership many times and they say nothing is wrong with the vehicle, and of course they always say " we cannot not duplicate the problem". i know this is a common problem because i belong to a forum for nissan armada's call club armada. there are many complaints of this issue, yet nissan doesn't want to admit this problem. this vehicle is not safe and it scares me to think what these brakes might do. nissan never again! *tr
Emergency brake light came on suddenly. brake shudders and vibrates through steering wheel. car makes a grinding noise when brake is applied. *tr
This a complaint regarding my 2004 nissan pathfinder armada se which currently has 23k miles. it started on 9/7/05, while driving over the speeds of 55 mph, when applying the brakes they lock up & don't work. the warning light for the brakes came on the dash. i took the car to dealer & they stated the problem was that the rotors were out of round. they replaced the front rotors & pads, they also turned the rear rotors & replaced the rear pads. this was on 9/7/05. on 4/21/07 while driving on a major highway, i attempted to apply my brakes & the brakes did not work & the vehicle would not stop. the brake warning light came on the dash & on the same day, we took the vehicle to the dealer & they ran a diagnostic check on the vehicle & they found that one of the codes had an error. the dealer reprogrammed the computer system to correct the problem. on 3/17/08, i was driving & i attempted to apply my brakes, when the brakes failed, the emergency brakes did not work & the warning light came on again on the dash. once again i took the vehicle to the dealer, i advised them at the dealer that this was the third time i had been there for the same issue. they advised that they would need to do a diagnostic test, in which i would have to pay out of pocket since the vehicle is no longer under warranty. this time they said that it was an internal failure & the brake booster needed to be replaced & that this may not fix the problem. i was advised by the technician at the dealer that the manufacturer is aware of the this problem. of course, this resolution was not offered or advised in my previous visits as it would have been paid under the warranty. conveniently, i was told about this after my warranty expired & after paying $1,000.00 out of my pocket to fix. these vehicles are a safety hazard to have on the road & you never know when the brakes are going to fail. *tr
The brakes on my nissan armada intermittently go out. this usually happens when pushing hard on the brakes to make a sudden stop. the only solution is to turn the car off and press the e-brake a couple of times then release it. the problem has almost killed me twice, but luckily i was able to swerve out of the way both times. i have brought the problem to my mechanic who has grinded down the rotors and replaced the brakes, but to no avail the problem keeps occurring. so far we have lost our brakes in this mammoth vehicle about 5 times. *tr
Car shakes when brakes are applied causing the car to become difficult to control. the car was "repaired" by authorized dealer pursuant to tsb issued by the manufacturer, but the problem recurs continuously. the manufacturer has issued 5 tsbs regarding this exact issue for my vehicle, but the problem recurs. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving various speeds he experienced unwanted abs activation. the dealer and a technician stated that he needed to reprogram his electronic control module. the contact is responsible for paying $125.00 for the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer didn't provide any assistance with the repair. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
2004 nissan armada se , normal highway driving conditions , partial brake failure, feels like brakes are applying abs ( large pulsations in peddle) brakes feel maybe half as effective at stopping the vehicle as opposed to when the brakes are working properly. this failure is accompanied by a loud metal on metal sound. based on my findings this appears to be a software problem and is easily fixed with a reflash of the vehicles computer. this problem could lead to many accidents and when a vehicle this big and heavy can't stop the accident's could likely be fatal . i'm posting on here in the hope that other people who have not yet had this problem can be at least be aware of it. *tr
