We have classified the 216 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Highlights are dangerously dim. i luckily have fog lights to help but the headlights had gotten me pulled over for being so dim. luckily the officer let me off with a warning to just get it replaced. i had already replaced the headlights once before when they had gotten dim at about 40kmiles with hid and now i realized they are dim again. i drive a lot so i just realized at 113k miles how dim they were when the officer had pulled me over.
My 2013 nissan altima is the worst car i have ever owned. since i have purchased it, there has been a constant engine noise until i reach about 40 mph. just in the past 3 months, within weeks of each other both front inside door handles have broke (my kids and i have to roll down both windows just to get out of the car which would be a huge safety issue in the event of a fire, crash or being trapped in the car at all), the dome lights through the inside of the car have stopped working (which is a safety issue because there is no way to see inside my vehicle at night), the light in the driver's side door panel fell out, the ac has gone out (and the compressor part is $425!!!! are you serious?!?!?! i have a 10.5 month old and it is 100 degrees outside!!! another huge safety issue) and now there is another noise coming from the engine at all speeds, a grinding noise. i am a single mom of three kids who i support on my own. i cannot afford to fix these things. i bought this car because it was supposed to be "reliable". and it is not! there have been so many complaints regarding all of the same things that i am experiencing and a recall needs to be done on all of them. this car is barely 4 years old and these problems should not be happening!!!! do something nissan! you are losing customers and reputation is on the line!
Air bar passenger light that air bag is off goes on when passenger 110 pound adult sits in passenger side. brought car in to dealer october 28th 2014 for software update, as of october 30th 2014 problem still exists dealer said it is passenger's biometrics that is the problem not the car, solution is unacceptable, have no confidence. dealer is chevy chase nissan, bethesda md adviser [xxx] turner 240 395 4069, 240 395 4048. read this problem occurs in other vehicles but is not identified for my vin number. lighting is checked off because warning light goes off. i have pictures taken yesterday of warning light going off while adult passenger is sitting in passenger sear. please note that problem existed since august and was not picked up until i read the nhtsa website this week. this a constant recurring problem that exists every day. problem must be addressed to prevent fatality in the event of an accident with no air bag being deployed for passenger. *tr
Takata recall- the front headlights are so dim, it's almost as if they don't even work. i can barely see in front of me and i have to use the brights if i am driving to even see a little bit. this car is totally unsafe to drive! this should have been recalled already and nissan needs to address this issue! i have seen numerous complaints about the same issue and nothing is being done. safety hazard by far!!!
The headlight's on the 2013 nissan altima are very bad, they put out no lighting. this is a major saftey issue for nissan. should be a recall for this issue
Fog light shattered on passenger side. i confirmed it was not impact related and returned the car to the dealership. they would not look at the problem unless i paid for the part first. i replaced the part myself and found that the light unit had: 1. not been tightened down and 2. and incredibly, had been assembled by someone who used a cigarette butt as a washer under one of the two bolts that hold the light unit in place. *tr
Low beam headlights are very dim; makes night driving very difficult; the low beam headlights were not very good even when the car was new and have gotten worse as the car ages
There is a loud whining noise under the hood, directly behind the passenger side headlight. the noise became louder when the steering wheel was turned slightly in either direction. the noise came into the passenger compartment. dealership said they were able to fix the whining noise coming into the passenger compartment. however; all 2013 altimas make this noise under the hood. the source can easily be identified by popping the hood and looking behind a small piece of sound absorbing material (which obviously doesn't work). have been told this is a "characteristic" of the new electric steering and all altimas make this annoying sound. *tr
Low beam headlights have always been very dim. hard to see much farther than than 20 feet. have to drive with the high beams for safety. very dangerous have replaced bulbs with led and halogen and have had them aligned. no help. please look into this.
The low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. the lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify if they are not near street lights. this issue has been present since buying the car. contacted the dealer and they said there is no solution for it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that he started the vehicle and the passenger side air bag illuminated. the contact also stated that the headlights were very low, he was unable to see the road at night and had to activate the high beam headlights. the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel while driving 30 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 5,000.updated 05/28/14 ma the consumer stated the brake warning light illuminated at 45mph and then again at 30mph. the passenger air bag light illuminated on two separate occasions prior to a passenger sitting in the seat. the headlights improved since replacing the bulbs with 110 w, aftermarket bulbs. the seat belt light illuminated on 3 separate occasions. the vehicle had to be restarted. updated 05/30/2014 *js
I have a bad rattle coming from the right side of my car along with a whine noise coming from the same area. also have a very bad vibration/rattle in the car that seems to be from the transmission at acceleration from a start and acceleration while switching lanes on a city street. you can coast and press the gas again and then the whole car rattles. it has been in to a nissan dealership and they said they can feel it but don't know where or what is causing it. also headlights give very very poor visibility when driving at night and when raining at night.
I purchased a 2013 nissan altima and within 1 week the brake light came on and would not go off during the same time period the phone would ring in the car and would not stop ringing until the car was completely shut off. the car has been into the dealership over 5 times for the same 2 issues and the problem still has not been corrected, as recent as yesterday may 31, 2014 the car continues to have the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the driver and passenger side front headlights became abnormally dim. the failure affected the contact's visibility of the roadway when driving at night. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the failure was caused by a manufacturing defect and all of the 2013 altima models had the same issue. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 10.
I spoke to 5 town nissan who did a so called thorough check on my car stated that everything was perfect but the brake light went on. how can everything be perfect with the brake light going on. all i see is that these dealers say its good and cars are in perfect working condition when they are not. *tr
Brake light went on right after taking it out of the service center of nissan dealer brake pedal dropped to floor. *tr
I just bought this car 01/03/2020 while night fall came i turned my headlights on i could not tell if they where on it was still dark pulled over and they where on , i had to drive with the high beams on so i could see the road and any pedestrians, there have been several complaints on this , it poses a safety issue for nighttime driving and people have gone off the road , nissan needs to be held responsible for the way the lighting was made on this vehicle, owners should not be liable for the cost of changing the housing unit on this vehicle, i am extremely scared to drive at night due to not being able to see the road , i don't want to hurt anyone or kill myself by not being able to see
The low-beam headlights on my 2013 altima sv with 2.5 engine, do not throw light down the road far enough. i now refuse to drive the car at interstate speeds at night...or when there is fog or heavy rain. i tested my observation by parking my 2006 toyota camry beside the nissan altima and turning both lights on low beam. the altima's throw is dramatically less than the altima's. i feel quite safe driving the camry at night at interstate speeds. my service writer and service manager and original sales person have repeatedly already explained that there is no problem with the headlights and there is nothing that can be done. i reject the statements of all who represent nissan. *tr
The headlughts on this vehicle are horrendous! driving around with high beams on is the only way to see anything at night. every person i have spoke with that owns this vehicle have said the same thing. basically useless turning the headlights on.
1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. the lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify if they are not near street lights. this issue has been present since buying the car, which has been to the dealer multiple times for adjustment, but they insist that the lights are set within specs. the high beams provide excellent lighting, but when switched to low for an oncoming vehicle, i am suddenly driving without sufficient light. this is such a frightening problem that i prefer not to drive this car at night. i can't believe that these lights meet safety standards. 2) the passenger side air bag light often indicates that the bag is not activated even when there is an adult sitting in the seat. this was supposedly repaired in a recall 5/2014, but continues to happen. the dealer says "don't worry about it," that the bag will deploy if needed. i have no way of knowing if that is the case and i believe this is a safety concern. *tr
The head lights are extremely dull, resulting in poor vision. high beams are the only way to see any distance. in bad weather this is extremely difficult to see road hazards.
