We have classified the 216 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
We haven't driven the car in like 10 days and tried starting it and it wouldn't start. got the car jump started and noticed that every time i turned the steering wheel the car bogged down the navigation system shuts off and the steering wheel becomes very difficult to turn. also the same exact thing happens when i put the car in reverse and turn the steering wheel, the navigation system and the back up camera goes completely dark.
Turn signal. when turn signal is automatically cancelled as the steering wheel is straightened, sometimes it actuates the 'lane change' three-flash signal in the opposite direction - presumably because the signal over-travels and momentarily travels in the opposite direction. for example, after making a right turn, the signal cancels and signals three flashes in the left direction. this has resulted in a person pulling out in front of me because they apparently thought i was going to change lanes to the left immediately after my right turn. this only happens intermittently, but i first noticed it shortly after i purchased the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving various speeds at night, the low beam headlights were extremely dim and the contact could not view the road ahead. a dealer was not made aware of the issue. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 72,000.
I think its sad that nissan has rec'd several complaints very poor visibility on the low beam headlights and will do nothing to replace these headlights for customers. i noticed that the lights projected far less than any vehicle i have ever owned. nissan claims its oxidation but it is not. they refuse to fix, and i have had this issue with the car since about 60,000 miles. i dealt with it for a long time but it progressively got worst and not i cant see 5 feet in front of me without having to turn on my high beams. i am very uncomfortable with this. there should be a recall for this! i have almost gotten into several accidents while driving, because of the poor visibility.low beam lights are insufficient for safe night time driving and the lights are burning the internal film. the light beam then hits the film & refracts away from the front of the car. replacing the actual headlight does nothing to fix the problem because i have friends with same car that have tried and no fix. please help!! i almost crash my car around a turn the other night due to the low visibility. nissan will not cover under my warranty and i will be calling corporate today. i cannot afford to fix this and its not fare because this is a re call issue!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving at night, the headlights failed to illuminate brightly. the vehicle was taken to cabrera auto (located at carr #2 km 82.2 salida expreso hatillo, pr-2, 00614, pr, (787) 333-8410), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
I am writing to you regarding my 2013 nissan altima. i am having an issue with my low beam headlights. apparently i was on my way home one evening with my baby and i had on my low beams and i could not see the road ahead of me, the lights were on; but, nothing was coming out of it. my husband changed the bulb and still nothing. i took it to sutherlin nissan and the service guy told me he is aware of the problems with the headlights in the 2013 altima, and he have seen numerous ones that had to be changed. i am out of warranty; so, i was told it would be $130 to check it out to see what is going on. this past friday my car started losing power and shutting off, i took it to the shop and they had to change the air flow sensor and when the guy checked my headlights he said it is black inside the projection area nothing will come through even if you changed the bulbs and i even bought a led kit and the shop told me nothing will work because the projection is burnt out. i have had three altima's; 2002, 2003, and now 2013 and i have never experienced anything like this. this is a safety issue i cannot understand why this was not recalled. i have my family to think about driving on these highways with no low beams, i have to use my high beams and people are flashing me because i am blinding them; but, i need to be able to see. i am very upset and dissatisfied, i do not see why i should have to spend over $900 on new headlights when the parts guy and service guys know that this is an issue with this year vehicle they tend to keep this in stock. these headlights should have been recalled'. this is a safety hazard. please take a look at this website, i see i am not the only one complaining about this issue. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/nissan/altima/headlights-problems.php
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving at night, the low beam headlights failed to illuminate brightly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was also taken to petro nissan (6248 us-98, hattiesburg, ms 39402, (601) 450-1470) where it was diagnosed that the headlights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Low beams don't work properly even after replacing bulbs. this issue started around late 2017.
The reflective material in the reflector (where your bulb is seated) has oxidized and burnt off the low beam portion of the headlight housing. the lights are completely useless and will require replacement.
For more than seceral months my lighting on my car has been very dim. almost to the point of i am not for sure if my lights are on at night or not (but they stay on automatic).
Over time the headlights became cloudy and did not put out enough light to safely drive at night. on the highway, we were driving in the dark (unless we put on the high beams which did work). the dealership told us there was nothing wrong with the lights. after reading other complaints on the internet, and taking the car to two other agencies, i confronted the dealership and they made a $957 (plus tax) repair that restored our headlights, while still denying that there was a problem.. from the internet, others experienced this same problem and were told that the heat of the headlights gradually melted the lining of the headlight unit and covered the lens. the company felt they have no obligation to recall because it takes over 50,000 miles and the car is out of warrantee by the time you realize you have a problem. the problem is very serious and made it unsafe to drive on the freeway or on roads without street lights at night. it took us months of taking the car in, first to the dealership and then to two other agencies, before the dealership agreed the lights were too dim and needed to be fixed. in addition to the dealership fee, i spent more than $200 replacing headlight sets and having the vehicle checked out by other agencies. i feel this is a safety issue and the cars need to be recalled.
My name is [xxx] and i am writing to you regarding my 2013 nissan altima. i am having an issue with my low beam headlights. apparently i was on my way home one evening with my baby and i had on my low beams and i could not see the road ahead of me, the lights were on; but, nothing was coming out of it. my husband changed the bulb and still nothing. i took it to sutherlin nissan and the service guy told me he is aware of the problems with the headlights in the 2013 altima, and he have seen numerous ones that had to be changed. i am out of warranty; so, i was told it would be $130 to check it out to see what is going on. this past friday my car started losing power and shutting off, i took it to the shop and they had to change the air flow sensor and when the guy checked my headlights he said it is black inside the projection area nothing will come through even if you changed the bulbs and i even bought a led kit and the shop told me nothing will work because the projection is burnt out. i have had three altima's in the past; 2002, 2003, and 2013 and i have never experienced anything like this. this is a safety issue i cannot understand why this was not recalled. i have my family to think about driving on these highways with no low beams, i have to use my high beams and people are flashing me because i am blinding them; but, i need to be able to see. i am very upset and dissatisfied, i do not see why i should have to spend over $900 on new headlights when the parts guy and service guys know that this is an issue with this year vehicle they tend to keep this in stock. these headlights should have been recalled'. this is a safety hazard. here is a list of other people with the same issue. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/nissan/altima/headlights-problems.php information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Low beam headlights are so dim i cannot see the road in front of me. i have to use my high beams at all times to see the road. this is severe safety issue
The low beam lights are insufficient for safe night time driving. i took it to the local dealership (see attached). i then contacted the nissan corporation who stated they would have fixed the problem if the previous owner had bought it in during the 3 year warranty period, but problems with the lights are not covered in the extended warranty. they did offer to pay for 1/3rd of the $1000 to fix the problem and my local dealership offered to pay some so the cost would be $500. i cannot afford this and who's to say that the replacement won't do the same thing? the cause of the problem is due to the lights melting some internal film - the light beam then hits the film & refracts away from the front of the car. replacing the actual headlight does nothing to fix the problem. (my sister has the same make & model and has tried this). recently, i almost hit a pedestrian walking across a major highway. i live one mile down a completely dark road. driving with my high beams is fine, but dangerous when there in oncoming traffic. when i turn them off i have to drop my speed to 15 miles below the speed limit to be able to safely see. this is also dangerous. i feel that nissan should recall the lights on these cars because 1. people living in 'the city' might be unaware 2.doing due diligence to have a safe care i.e. replacing a burnt out bulb does not fix the problem and 3. paying $1000 to make a car safe is out of the question for the average person.
When driving at night, the low beams are extremely dim, causing me to drive with my high beams on continuously. the low beams only illuminate approximately 10 feet in front of vehicle. this is a known issue to nissan and they refuse to fix the issue. i asked them about the issue and was quoted almost $1300 for the fix.
My headlights starting becoming dim around 70,000 miles they got so dim that i cold oly drive at night using my high beams. i took it to the dealer and they said the entire headlight assembly need to be replaced so i went ahead and did that. i also filed a complaint with nissan as this was a huge safety issue. the repair cost about $1,200 and nissan is not willing to help or admit there was a defect.
The headlights are barely visible on low beam. spoke to dealership and they acknowledge this is a known problem, but nissan will not stand behind the problem and fix it. the projector film inside the headlight assembly is failing and the only way to fix it is replace the entire assembly, around $1,000. with this lack of headlight projection, you are out driving your visibility when you are traveling over 25 mph. this is a significant hazard for the driver, as well as any pedestrians you may drive upon and not see until it may be too late. i'm looking for the nstfb to step up and force nissan to stand behind this known problem.
After a few years of normal operation the low-beam headlights are no longer effective. they are too dim to rely on while driving on dark roads/highways. must use high-beams for proper visibility. replacing bulbs does not help.
About 1.5 years ago, i noticed my driver's side headlight suddenly become dim, a few weeks later, the same with the pax light. it made it difficult to see at night to the point i was driving with high beams. i went to get the required rejected sticker for the car and was rejected due to the lights. after replacing the bulbs twice with 2 separate mechanics, still no appropriate lighting & a second sticker rejection. i was quoted by 2 separate mechanics between $850-1000 to replace both of the lighting units with aftermarket parts and i just do not have that money to give. i recently discovered that there are others with this same problem so, seems that it is a manufacturer's defect. i called nissan today to ask about a recall but, there isn't one. i asked for nissan to pay for the replacements & was told that they would call me back after assessing the year, mileage, repair history, etc...locally, i only drive locally because i've been driving virtually blindly and illegally for 1+ year now frustrated to not have a solution. i hope that nissan will recognize the issue and pay for the repair.
Lights low beam are deam ,change out the bulbs and still have the problem
The low beam headlights are extremely dim. i have and the bulbs changed twice. after changing them it made no difference in the brightness of the low beam. i have talked to the service department at nissan where our car is serviced and he has stated that they have also had several complaints about people having problems with low beam. after getting online and checking out to see what people have said it appears the light assembly has to be replaced which run somewhere between 700 to $1,000 at the dealership. the car is actually unsafe to drive at night unless i use my high beams and this has been causing a problem to the other cars that are on the road. it's way too dangerous to drive it in this condition so i've been looking at having to purchase aftermarket replacement assemblies because their cost is much less than the dealerships. i'm assured that nissan is aware of this problem but does not want to do anything to correct it.
Nissan headlights are defective. nissan knows this. nissan knows that headlights are dangerously dim & drivers can't see the road at night. nissan refuses to fix this safety hazard which results in injury & death.
The headlights are too dim to drive safely on the road. nissan refuses to fix the problem or acknowledge the issue as there fault. my estimate to fix this very dangerous problem is $1000. i do not feel safe driving this car at night and do not feel it should be my cost to fix it.
Faulty headlamp design inside projector bowl burns out thus resulting in reflective material being burnt inside after this faulty design we could not see the road very dangerous situation we had to purchase online aftermarket headlight unit complete assembly and now we can see the road need to be an recall so we can get replaced at no charge! or payment reimbursements! this is a safety issue what if you hit an animal or a person? or another car because you cannot see the road at night! all because nissan usa wanted to make a cheap part bad design part!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the low beam headlights failed to illuminate properly, which resulted in extremely low visibility. the contact replaced the bulbs more than once; however, the lighting was so dim that the fog lights and high beam headlights had to be used as an alternate option. the manufacturer was contacted. the dealer was not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was not available. *bf the consumer stated the headlights failed 2 other times. *tr
Headlights are so dim you cannot see more than 2-3 feet in front of the car. i have replaced the lights and does not help. it has become so bad i only drive this vehicle at night when absolutely necessary. i have also notice many reports/complaints on this same topic.
Lights on low beam are hazardous because they don't provide enough light to see at night while driving. i have to use high beams to see at night while driving. it apparently is a defect on 2013 nissan altimas and it must be fixed before something bad happens!
I have a 2013 nissan. altima and the lights are very dim. i have replaced the light bulbs and it didn't make a difference. i can not see 2 feet in front of me. this is very dangerous for my kids and myself. i don't feel comfortable driving at night because there isn't enough light to see what's in front of me, or others to see me. many of times people have turned in front of me because the lights are so dim.
I have sent various emails to nissan regarding our lights about the unsafe lighting distance they give at night. when driving in fog it is much worse. i have done many changes of bulbs experimenting with different brands and intensities and no change. i have also driven another vehicle and let me wife drive the altima towards me on a rural road at night and the headlights are very dim to oncoming traffic. this increases the fact and rule of driving which is " your eyes can only see ahead what your lights only cover" it is unsafe to drive slower due to fact of how many drivers drive ridiculously fast and with dim lights makes it even more difficult for them to see you or you to see them. nissan needs to take action in this matter immediately. we have taken our vehicle to get serviced at our local nissan dealership and they have many complaints regarding this issue but nissan corporation needs to step up and make the recall to fix it, not the dealer. this is our 4th nissan we have owned and i hope it isn't our last.
Headlights are extremely dim to the point of providing no light when driving at night. it is necessary to always use high beams. nissan dealer completed full diagnosis and determined both complete headlight housings need to be replaced at a cost of over $1100 to correct the problem. this seems totally ridiculous for a vehicle that is less than 4 years old. the bulbs are working fine however the round bubble lens cover in front of the bulb appears to have become cloudy restricting light from passing through it and projecting it on the road. we have seen online on several websites numerous complaints regarding this highly dangerous safety issue and nissan has told their customers there is nothing they can do for them. this happens all the time when driving at night.
Low beam headlights are very dim , providing inadequate illumination during night driving. this is an ongoing continuing issue.
Low beam lights get extremely dim, my turn signal lights are brighter than the headlights!!!!!!!!! this creates a safety issue driving at night. as an uber driver, i can spot my generation altima from far away just cause it always has the dimmest lights unless the altima has hid
Headlights are extremely dim at night and vehicle unsafe to drive at night unless high beam headlights are used. problem started over 3 years ago. i did some research online and many other altima purchasers are experiencing similar issue. based on everything i have read, nissan refuses to accept responsibility or issue recall.
The low beams on this vehicle are extraordinarily low. dangerously low. often times, even when on a major highway, i have to put on my highbeams to see the road more clearly. sometimes i have to look to the right and down to find the line indicating the shoulder, especially when there is oncoming traffic. there should be a record for this vehicle. it is an acknowledged problem by nissan.
I have a 2013 nissan. i start to notice the lights getting dim 2016-2018. my headlights are so dim i can't drive my car at night. i have put myself and others in danger because of this problem. i have contact nissan about the problem and they act as if putting people in danger is not a issue to them. i have replaced bulbs and the problem seems to be worse than before.
Low beam headlights too dim, barely i can see in front of vehicle, i have to look to the dashboard to know if the are on or off, in city driving they do not provide much help.
Because this complaint involves my low beam lights my car is moving. i commute 100 miles a day to and from work. i leave when its dark in the morning and i drive home at night when its dark. my low beams are so dim i cannot see anything further than the hood of my car. if i am driving with my low beams on oncoming traffic is flashing me to put my lights on. if i am driving with my high beams on in order to see the road i am being flashed to turn my high beams off. this started about 2 years ago and has gotten progressively worse. i paid nissan dealership $200.00 labor to be told they could not find a problem witht he wiring and i would have to leave it with them longer to research further. i took it to a second mechanic who told me it was not the wiring that infact the reflectors are defective and i should call nissan. its not a warranty issue and the only fix is to replace the entire headlight assy at $1,000.00 each. i do not have that kind of money if i did i would not be commuting 100 miles a day to have a job. i have read endless complaints on this same issue and nothing is being done. i even found where a class action suit is being done and was told that once i fix the problem to please send them my defective lights for them to further research...really!!!!
I was informed by 2 different mechanic shops that the lighting system on my car is defective. i replaced the headlights 2 times by 2 different ships and they are still dim. this is a hazard because i have to drive with my highbeams on at night. this poses safety concerns not only to myself but to other drivers as well and i'm also liable to receive a citation that i have no control over. i've been having this issues for the last 2 years.
Headlights are very dim on low beam it is very unsafe to drive at night or in the fog other motorists have crossed into my lane because they can hardly see me.i have replaced the bulbs numerous times and nothing has helped dealer said i would have to replace entire assembly.
My headlights are extremely dangerous and i can't believe there hasn't been a recall yet. these things can't light up more than 5-10ft in front of you at night. i have become a rideshare driver and this is unacceptable. completely unacceptable if you ask me. i have to use the high beams whenever driving in a non-lit area which affects oncoming traffic regularly. i have replaced bulbs multiple times, upgrading to the best lights each time and to no effect. what's it gonna take??? death before this issue becomes a problem to you people?? sickening is what it is. i don't have $1000 to fix on my own and if i did i still wouldn't. please recall vehicle immediately before i kill people
The exterior lighting is next to none. this is very dangerous when driving at night. viability is next to none. i went a head and changed the lights to led lights improved maybe 10 %. i have asked other owners and they say the same thing. lighting should be address since this is a safety equipment.
Headlights are super dim and dangerous to drive at night. i have replaced bulbs several times and nothing seems to work. if a wreck happens it would be at nissans fault for not correcting this issue years ago
Dim low beam (projector lens) bought the vehicle new in july of 2013. the low beams functioned normal for the first three years then became more and more dim. replaced the low beam bulbs with brighter aftermarket bulbs which seemed to only marginally help. as time went by the brightness still continued to diminish to the point the vehicle was not drivable at night or in the rain unless kept on high beam. internet research revealed little until recently when the topic on a car forum revealed that the projector lens coating was defective and is a known issue by nissan which they deny. replaced both headlight assemblies myself with an aftermarket brand and low beam brightness has returned. the low beam issue is a very serious safety issue and should be acknowledged by nissan and addressed accordingly.
Please look into the issue of 2013 altimas and dim headlights. numerous reports on the internet with proof of the issue which is the housing reflector material is degrading over a short period of time, resulting in extremely dim headlights to the point that they are unsafe.
1) the low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and distance. the lights barely illuminate about 2 car lengths ahead, which is too short a distance at speeds above 25-30mph, making highway travel at night very dangerous. objects in the path of travel and on the side of the road are not visible in time to safely respond. street signs and turns are nearly impossible to identify. nissan dealer says my projector lens have on them which cannot be cleaned. quoted $1000 to replace both headlights. i do not agree, units are sealed from factory.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph, the headlights began to flash on and off intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 64,500. ....updated 12/30/15 *bf
Low beam headlights do not illuminate the road. i cannot see the road while driving in the dark with the low beam head lights on. this has become progressively worse. the dealership says this is a design flaw and the entire headlight unit costs $1400 each plus labor. or i could buy a new car, they said. i am not aware of this while driving places with lighted streets until driving in unlit areas during the dark times of day. this has be come progressively worse over the years until now, i cannot even see the edges of the road. i would not see something until i would have hit it. this is a safety issue.
The headlights on the 2013 nissan altima are very dim and i have a very difficult time seeing at night when driving this car. the headlights have been replaced and adjusted several times but nothing works. it has gotten so bad that it is as though the headlights are not even on! it seems like it keeps getting worse!
My 2013 nissan altima has dangeroulsy dim headlights. i have changed the bulbs 4 times now and there is no change. we took it to a nissan dealership, the technician said that it is a known manufacturing defect and he recommended led bulbs. i changed the bulbs again to led ones and nothing changed. i cannot see more than a car length in front of my car at night. when a car is behind me with real headlights, it throws a shadow and makes it more difficult to see in front of the car. i cannot see where i am turning and i am afraid i am going to hit a pedestrian or run off the road because of such poor visibilty from the dim headlights. nissan is aware of this defect. i have read complaints from many other altima drivers who have the same dangerous issue. there is a defective reflective film in the light projector that peels and doesn't project the lights correctly. this isn't a warranty issue, it is a safety issue. the technician said there is no "fix" for this issue without changing out the whole assembly. very dangerous driving at highway speeds with only a carlength of light in front and none to the sides. this should be a recall because of the danger it poses to drivers and other on the roads. it is a known defect.
The low beam headlights are entirely inadequate to provide sufficient lighting intensity and failed to safely illuminate the street ahead of you. this creates a very dangerous situation when driving at night, while raining, or under any low visibility conditions since you are not able to see objects, even worst, pedestrians in the path of travel. this issue has been present since i bought the car (brand new), but became a real serious and safety hazard between 15k-20k miles. unfortunately, i have to constantly drive with the high beams at night leaving other drivers with a partial blindness; which i consider it unfair and unsafe, too. sometimes, when i switch to low for an oncoming vehicle, i suddenly find myself driving completely without sufficient light. my eyes become partially blind due to the change in light intensity. as a safety professional in the aviation industry, i hope that nissan and nhtsa do something sooner, because tomorrow might be too late.
