We have classified the 216 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
I bought my 2013 nissan altima 2.5 brand new in 2012. over the past 7 years, my low beam headlights have gotten progressively dimmer, to the point that i cannot tell my lights are even on. i can no longer drive my car at night because i cannot see 5 feet in front of the car. if it rains, i am in bad shape because you can't see anything in front of you. when i took my car to the dealership for 90,000 mile service, the service advisor told me that replacing the headlight bulbs will not change or fix the issue. he stated that i needed whole new headlight assemblies, which would cost me approximately $1,000. i have an extended warranty for the car, but feel as this is a wide spread and known issue with the 2013-2015 altima, that i should not have to pay out of pocket for the repair for my safety and safety of other drivers around me on the road.
Low beam head lights have extremely low output. difficult to drive at night.
The headlights are getting dimmer over time to the point you are unable to see at night to safely operate the vehicle. the reflective material inside the headlight assembly appears to be deteriorating and replacing the bulb does not help.
This vehicles headlamps are so dim to the point of extreme safety hazard and can cause an accident and injury as a result. this appears to be a known defect and nissan is not standing behind the safety of their owners. the fix is not a bulb, but replacing both headlamp assemblies at a hefty price tag to the owner
Low-beam headlights have dimmed over time. i purchased car brand new and cannot see without fog lights being on. replaced bulbs but problem is with the reflective coating inside the headlamp assembly. many other people having the same problem with their vehicles also.
Headlights are too dim--where i can only see 4 ft in front of my car at nite. it's a very dangerous safety issue.
The head lights on my car when on dim are dangerous. i can't see more than 20-30 feet ahead. i've changed the bulbs with no help or improvement. i've installed new halogen bulbs and contacted the dealership regarding this issue. they tell me my lights are working properly, but they haven't driven m car at night. this seems to be a widespread issue with this model.i can't safely operate my car at night and especially in the rain. i can't see the curb thus i can't see pedestrians until it's almost too late. nissan needs to fix this problem because it's with every altima.
Difficult seeing in the night very bad visibility lights are not bright enough , i changed the lights but there was no improvement, i have to use my high beam lights
In recent weeks the car's headlights have been extremely weak especially when using low beams. in a dark area i can barely see the road even a few feet in front of the car. when i checked the lights, both are working, just not working well enough to function. it's becoming very dangerous to drive at night.
Low beam headlights are very dim. when i first bought the car they were so bright that i was getting brights flashed at me with people thinking i had my high beams on. now they barley are bright. it is very hard to see at night unless i have my high beams on. i thought it was the head lamp itself but i have replaced them. i have also had to replace my low beams 4 times since i've owned the car for them burning out. once at the time. after reading so many complaints about it, why isn't nissan taking care of this issue? i love my car but hate the headlights. this has been an on going issue for the last 3 years.
I recently replaced my low beams, again, and it didn't make a difference. my fog lights are brighter than my low beams. when i replaced my bulbs initially in november 2018 it wasn't until my fog lights went out that i noticed my headlights were dim. i replaced them with the brightest halogen bulb. in october they appeared to be out but were so dim the only way they were visible was standing within feet of the car. i replaced them with led bulbs and it didn't make a significant improvement. after doing some research i discovered this is a common issue with this vehicle. like many others i will have my headlight assemblies replaced due to this safety issue. while oncoming vehicles can see me this failing safety feature could jeopardize my ability to see something in the road. i currently limit my driving at night but emergencies happen and nissan should be replacing all of these assemblies. headlights are so crucial to ensure the safety of all on the road.
The headlights are not "strong" enough to actually light the road or anything in front of the car. verified not bulb issue. these headlights are not safe to drive at night as there really isnt any visibility. ive been dealing with this and fighting this issue for years but just realized i was able to make this complaint since nissan wont address issue. *tr
I purchased my altima from a dealership as a certified used vehicle. the first time i drove at night i noticed that the headlights were dangerously dim. the headlights were so dim, that (while the car was stationary) i turned the headlights on and off, and there was no difference in visibility. i returned to the dealership within a week, where they charged me to install upgraded bulbs. this did not fix the problem- even with upgraded, brighter bulbs there in no projection of light onto the roadway. the lights are visible from the outside (if you are looking at the car, you can see that the lights are on), but from the outside looking at the car you can see that they appear very dim. the bright setting on the vehicle appears to be unaffected. the vehicle is not safe to operate in the dark without the bright setting being utilized and presents a hazard to both occupants of the vehicle and people and property outside of the vehicle. the dealership is going to try changing out the bulbs again, but if that doesn't work they are telling me that there is nothing that can be done- which means that the vehicle is unsafe to operate in dim or dark light conditions.
Head light low beams are extremely dim. even, i cannot see 2 meters in front of the car at nights. and this problem is not related with the light bulbs. it is related with the headlight projector housing (confirmed from different auto shops and internet complaints) that is losing its effectiveness by the time. also, repairing this problem is very costly. basically, both headlight assemblies have to be changed. we, as altima owners, are waiting for the recall action specifically for this problem from the nissan company. unfortunately, it is very common safety problem among 2013 -2015 altimas.
Low beam headlights have been getting dimmer over the past few years to the point i need to ride with my high beams on. my passengers ask me if i have my headlights on. i would expect to see a recall since this is a safety issue.
Low beam headlights are to dim to be safe, changing the bulb does not solve the problem. this problem is unsafe on a normal night and worse on a dark rainy night. on a remote highway this is very bad and even in town with street lights it is not safe.
The low beam headlights are dangerously dim creating hazardous driving conditions when operating the vehicle after dark. this appears to be a common problem with the altima related to the deterioration of the reflector bowl in the lamp assembly. as a safety concern i am requesting nhtsa to order nissan to recall the affected vehicle's for repair.
Headlight enclosures deteriorate causing dangerously low light from headlights creating limited sight distance at night
Factory lighting is dim, cannot see at night. the projection is not strong enough for nyc night time. i need to use high beams and those arent even that good. it is not the light bulb
The low beam headlights are dangerously dim. as the car has gotten older, the problem has become worse. the range is now probably less than 100 ft. new bulbs and restoring the lens has not helped.
2013 nissan altima, the headlights on the vehicle are poor quality. it is difficult if not impossible to see at night when utilizing the low beams. visibility improves if you utilize the high beams.
The low beam headlights are dangerously dim. driving at night anywhere other than in town is frightening. recently i was forced to drive 100 miles of secondary country roads after dark. the only way i new where to steer was following another vehicle. when that vehicle turned off i was forced to leave my high beams on which is dangerous for oncoming drivers. so i was on and off with them. it was a miracle i didn't crash. sometimes i could not see but just kept going straight and driving very slow with cars backed up behind me. just cannot see the road or signs with the low beams. research online revealed lots of other complaints about this. how many accidents have happened with this car because people cannot see? owners have replaced headlight bulbs but it doesn't help. the whole assembly needs replaced which costs over a thousand according to some owners who have looked into it. this needs to be a safety recall.
Addendum to my previously submitted complaint about dim low beam headlights and not being able to see at night. please don't think it's because my headlight covers are cloudy with age. my headlight covers are crystal clear and clean and owners of newer models of this car report the same problem. the high beams are fine.
Low beam head light too dim can not see at night
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving at dusk, the headlamps failed to project adequately enough for safe driving. the vehicle was taken to uftring nissan (7400 n allen rd, peoria, il 61614, (309) 690-6200) where it was diagnosed that the low beam headlamp bulbs needed to be replaced. the headlamp bulbs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. upon a second visit to uftring nissan, the contact was informed that the headlamp assemblies on the driver and passenger sides needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,600. *pm*jb
The low beam lights are very dim. it's hard to drive at night. unsafe
The headlights were never strong. they are now weaker than street lights or virtually any other car around me. cars behind me case a shadow of my car where my beams should be. it's like driving with daytime running lights. my internet search shows this is a widespread problem with the 2013 altima. this is an extremely serious safety problem and i would like to know if this has been or will be investigated by nhtsa. at a minimum, nissan should repair the affected cars.
Low beam headlights are becoming dimmer and dimmer. they are less bright, and more yellow. i have cleaned the lens covers. the headlights seem less bright than the driving lights. recent passengers have said "al, turn on your headlights."
My 2013 nissan altima headlights are very dim and i have to drive with brights on just to see at night. this is a real safety concern. i have replaced the bulbs three times with led, hid and back to halogen and they have not fixed the problem. they continue to get dimmer and dimmer.
I just purchased my car used 9/24/2019 with 73,000 miles. since day one the headlights have not worked properly when you turn them on at night you can't see the road it looks like parking lights are on i've ran off the edge of the road several times because i couldn't see the road or divider lines. the only way to see the road safely is to turn the fog lights on too and even with them on it's still dull i have to turn my bright lights on to see clearly and those seem like they should be the low beams not the high beams. we've had rain for 2 days and that makes it even more hazardous to drive especially at night i'm scared i'll hit another car because i can't see. i've changed the bulbs twice with no luck i can't keep spending money on a problem that i have learned from googling is a very common problem with my year vehicle. i have 2 young boys and worry about this safety issue with the headlights. i thought for sure this would be a recall but the dealership said that yes it was a common issue with 2013-2015 nissan altimas there was no recall as of right now.
The head light on my nissan altima 2013 sv is very dim i have to use the high beam most of the time at night driving which is very dangerous for the oncoming traffic and may cause an accident, i try to avoid driving at night for that reason. i even replace the bulbs with the most expensive ones but that did not help at all. i just found out that others also have the same problem with the same model car.
The low beam lights do not provide enough lighting at night.it is very hard to see without using the high beams.i have replaced the bulbs and even the high intensity bulbs do not improve the lighting enough to be safe to drive at night.i see a lot of online complaints but no recall. i called the dealer and they are saying they are not aware of any issue and want to charge 128$ to diagnose the problem that i know is a inferior headlight design. i have even been following friends in other vehicles and they mention that the headlights are very dim.
I bought the 2013 nissan ultima with stock lights. while driving at night with my low beams on i could not operate the vehicle safely because i could not see the road. i tried replacing the low beams three separate times with high priced led lightbulbs and i still have the same issue. i can not drive at night because i can not see the lines or the road. driving at night causes me to become a safety hazard to other drivers. i have discovered that countless people have this issue with the same model. i can get it fixed through nissan but it will cost roughly $1,000 and i do not have that kind of money to fix a problem that is not my fault. i am asking for a recall of this particular port of the car, otherwise, if i continue to drive at night it is only a matter of time before i hurt myself or others.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while operating the vehicle at night, the low beam headlights were very dim and caused a visibility hazard for the driver. the vehicle was taken to bel air nissan (1506 bel air rd, bel air, md) where the light bulbs were replaced, but the failure continued. the light bulbs were later replaced with aftermarket led bulbs, but the failure continued. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 50,000.
The the projector inside my headlight is burned out .causing visibility issues at night time. changing the headlight assembly is my only option
The headlights on my altima are really dim.
The low beam headlights on the 2013 altima are extremely dim. my car has 95,000 miles. i basically am unable to tell if my lights are on at night and can only see a few feet in front of the vehicle. this appears to be a widespread issue. i have attempted to contact nissan; however, no response was received. this is extremely dangerous and there will be a serious injury or death due to this issue unless nissan is forced to correct the problem with a recall. please help!
While driving at night it is extremely difficult to see as the headlights are very dim. i feel unsafe and have to drive with my high beams on. i live in a rural area where there are not a lot of streets lights and i am very afraid to drive without my high beams on. please look into this people are going to have to die before a recall happens on this vehicle?!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving approximately 45 mph, the low beam head lamps started to dim and illuminated approximately fifteen feet. the contact switched to the high beam headlights. the vehicle was taken to scott evans nissan (725 bankshead hwy, carrollton, ga 30117) where it was diagnosed that the materials inside the head lamp assembly had degraded and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
Headlight low beam is getting dimmer. replaced bulbs and checked grounding still dim. problem appears to be a defect in the headlight assembly. unsafe to drive at night. high beams work well.
Altima's low beam headlights are extremely dim. same issue as reported on other sites:http://www.nissanproblems.com/altima-projector-headlights/ essentially the internal lenz is damage over time and use directing the light towards the ground and not the road. it has been a slow progression and i did not realize the issue until i went to change the lamp bulbs.
When i first bought my car the headlights worked fine, now they are so dim you cannot see when driving at night or in the rain. i spoke with a mechanic to see what was going on with the light, and told me that the chrome around the light bulb is not reflecting the light of the bulb and that is why its so dim. he also advised me that this is a common issue that he sees in nissan altimas 2012 and above. the cost for replacing the headlights is about 1200 dollars to fix.
Low beam lights are extremely dim and make driving at night without high beams and fog lights very dangerous especially in rain or wet road conditions. cannot see curbs for traffic islands, cannot see usual road signs, cannot see signs overhead clearly. high beams are annoying and risky to oncoming traffic.
The headlamps are extremely dim on my 2013 nissan altima. i have to drive with highbeams on to drive at night. i've been stopped by the police for having dim headlights. i've changed the bulbs and they are still dim. i've been told the headlight housing is defective and needs to be replace at the cost of over $800. this is a manufactures defect and nissan is silent on this issue. it's known that 2013, 2015, 2016 altimas have this same issue. this issue should be a recall. please help, i drive with children in the car and i should be able to see at night. i dive in the city, at night and in the country, the low beams are low and i'm forced to use the high beams which is not safe for on coming traffic. nissan should address this issue.
Low beam headlights are too dim for driving. cannot see streets, lanes, or hazards
I own a 2013 altima. i am having issues with the low beam headlights being very dim. at night i have to use my high beam to see. when i drive on a road that's not very lit it almost seemed like my lights are not on. driving on the highway became very unsafe when it was storming at 4:00 in the morning as i couldn't use my high beams. this really scared me and felt unsafe to drive my car at night during such conditions. i have taken the car to nissan and they did come across a same issue which resulted in having to replace the whole headlight. changing the bulb did not help. i would like to report this unsafe issue, given that after reading up on it, i am only one of so many others with the same problem. i think this is a safety hazard for many drivers on the road.
My daughter drives this vehicle, she had been complaining about the headlights for more than a year. i replaced the bulbs in july of 18, but had not driven it at night. i drove it this past weekend, and was absolutely shocked and horrified. extremely poor low beam headlighting. literally can not see 100 ft in front of vehicle at night. can not driver at safe speeds due to poor lighting. we have to use bright lights when driving at night to see the road. have replaced bulbs 2x, same results each time. very dangerous. recall needed
Headlights are very dim. have changed bulbs a couple of times but still dim. did some research and seen there is a problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. front head lights illumination was very dim visibility hazard was present head light assembly was faulty the contact stated that the front head lights illumination was very dim make night vision very poor for the driver. the vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who cleaned the lens and assembly but the failure remained and the assembly would needed to be replaced. the local dealer(known) and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 90,000.
The lights are very dim at night. i looked it up on the internet and it is a common problem with the 2013 altima. you can barely see the lane markers at night. many people have this complaint. the dealer seems to know it is an issue and it requires a $700-$1100 complete replacement.
