We have classified the 6 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Have a 2013 nissan altima, low mileage. pulling out of driveway and noticed the back end of car was swerving as if i was on ice. i pulled over tire was not flat and nothing was stuck by the tire. no ice was on the road. i pulled down a little further on rode and the right rear end collapsed. the tire was sitting bent outward . when i looked under the car a metal bar was cracked in half. i called my son in law who is familiar with car repair and he and a mechanic stated it was the right rear control arm that had huge amount of corrosion and had broken in half. i called nissan dealer in wausau wisconsin and they stated no recalls or service action is in place. had i gone 5 minutes more down the road i would have been on a major highway at 65 miles and hour and believe i would have rolled the car and been in the ditch. i usually drive my 2 grandchildren in the car with me but today thank god they were at home. i found thru your website that nissan has been aware of this for sometime. this is a horrific finding . does it take a death to get them to pull this part. i have pictures of the corrosion and breakage that i will try to send with this.
I was driving my car (2013 nissan altima) last week all of the sudden without prior notice the rear lower control arm cracked down. i was in motion but luckly not in a highway. the car was traveling about 20 miles/h. i lost control of the car but didn't cause injuries or accidents. i had to tow the car home.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. when the contact attempted to exit the vehicle, the driver's side interior door handle failed to operate. the contact stated that, previously, both the rear and front passenger side interior door handles failed to operate. the vehicle was repaired at a reduced cost for the front and rear passenger door handles; however, the dealer (nissan of victoria, 6003 n navarro st, victoria, tx 77904, (361) 578-5000) declined to repair the driver's side door handle since it was still operational. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,000. the vin was not available.
Rear control arm rusted through and broke. rear undercarriage all rusted through
About a month ago i noticed a weird noise when going over small bumps, i took the car to the shop to investigate it to find out the rear arms that holds the springs in had cracked at the weld more so on the read driver side and the arms in the rest of the car started to crack also right at the welds. car is only 60k miles on it

The problem we encountered was, when leaving to go to the movies, we heard a large bang went to see if something was under the car. next we drove a few feet and heard a dragging noise. upon inspection the rear tire was out of line. when checking the underside of the car, we were taken back by what we saw. the entire part of the car was rusted and the frame had rusted away from the main part of the car. we had gone out the night before and were on the highway going at least 50 mph, had this happened then we would have been killed. that night we were heading toward the highway to go to the movies. i can't believe the condition of the car. this car is kept in the garage and the underside had been hosed down to keep the salt from harming the underside. i have looked into this and found these cars have had many complaints about the rust underneath these cars. it has been happening for years. some around 2005 and some even older that that. i would like to know why there hadn't had a recall in regards to this complete rust problem on the underside of these cars. i think we may have a case against nissan after reviewing and having the knowledge of all the cars dealing with this problem.most of these people said they will never buy another nissan because of this problem. i will have to have the photo's sent later as i do not have the phone with them on it.
I was driving my 2013 nissan altima on a busy city street and lost control of steering ability due to the right rear control arm that was completely rusted and broke apart. my vehicle had to be towed and this part had to be replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the interior door handles on all four doors failed intermittently. when the door handles were used, with or without the unlock function, they fractured and were continually replaced. new city nissan (2295 n king st, honolulu, hi 96819, (808) 524-9111) was notified and suggested replacing the same oem parts. the dealer also stated that there was no recall and the warranty expired for the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving approximately 15 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear passenger side control arm fractured and needed to be replaced. additionally, there was severe corrosion to the control arm and the secondary hood latch on the vehicle was faulty. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v029000 (latches/locks/linkages). the vehicle was not repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
On 14 may 2019, while i was driving to a family member's house on livingston road in accokeek, md, my hood popped open and obstructed my view of driving. i had to pull of the road to pull the hood down. it was very fearful. i could have killed myself or someone else. this isn't the 1st time it happened to me. it also happened in august 2018 in doswell, va. both of these incidents were reported to my insurance company.
The clear coat is peeling off on the hood and top of the car. the low beam headlights are very dim can barley see at night this has been getting progressivly worse over the last year has 98000 miles on it
The control arm broke in my 2013 altima. the mechanic said he has never seen one break like this and it appears to be a defect on the weld. i looked online and see other people have had similar complaints and it is under investigation.

Shift gear get stuck at parking mode while moving car. this is serious problem at it may occur while moving. we approach nissan but no help from them. how come nissan allow to not having recall on this as many owners are feeling this problem. we would appreciate if nhtsa comes in help. we have had this problem going since one month and vehicle is in motion. we are lucky that so far no major incident. i feel that this problem may cause a lot of problem if not fix proper by nissan. while searching this problem at online, many owners are felling this issue. also nissan offering solution to problem at youtube.com . here is video from nissan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq4untc8saw surprised that they have not taken any action even knowing this.
The latch will not release on the trunk. the fob or the button release is not working!
Three major issues has been occuring with my 2013 nissan altima 2.5 sl 1. brake light comes up randomly while driving at local or highway speed. 2. hood pop up while driving - issue with latch 3. transmission is making grinding noise.
2013 nissan altima moonroof exploded while driving on the interstate at approximately 75mph. there was a loud pop and air was heard on roof. saw flying debris from rearview mirror while trying to pull over to see what happened. pulled over and realized large chunks of the tempered glass was gone. there were minor scratches on the trunk paint from the debris hitting it as it flew off. there was very little traffic around and no overpasses. temperatures weren't extreme as it was a mildly warm fall day (mid 60's) and roads were dry. the glass is sticking out above the roof which indicates that it was an explosion rather than something crashing down on the moonroof.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front driver's side, front passenger, and rear passenger side doors would not open from inside the vehicle. the contact had to roll down the window to open the door from outside the vehicle. the vehicle was driven to cochran nissan of south hills (3200 w liberty ave, pittsburgh, pa 15216, (412) 245-4540) where it was diagnosed that new door handles were needed. the contact stated that only the driver's side door was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 108,000.
The inside door handles on the front driver's side door and the rear passenger side door have both broken. there has to be something wrong with the manufacturing on this. i have owned 4 vehicles in my life, with all 4 of those vehicles having more than 100,000 miles on them when i traded them or stopped driving them, and have never had issues with the door handles. this car currently has almost 73,000 miles on it. the driver's side door handle broke last year and the rear door handle broke this morning. the vehicle was stationary when this happened. i am very concerned about being in a situation where the car needs to be exited immediately and we can't because the door handles will not work!
After normal driving, i parked the car, grabbed the driver side handle to open the door and it just sort of flopped out. there was no connection to the interior pieces to open the door. to exit, i have to keep the car running, open the window, reach through and use the outside door handle to open the door (which is very difficult as i am not tall), then close the window again before i can turn off the car and exit.
My 2013 altima started to hesitate and jerk when i was driving. then when i would be stopped and ready to pull out my car will not go and then finally catch and go. it wont go over 30 miles an hr at some points. when i brought it to nissan they did a diagnostic on it and its the cvt transmission that needs to be replaced. i was told my warranty expired 2000 miles ago and its gonna cost me $3500 for a new one. ive only owned my car for 2 yrs. i am so dissatisfied with nissan and they are so unprofessional to not fix this known problem with there cvt issues on all their vehicles.. i have also replaced the inside door handles on both doors..
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the driver side door failed to open when attempting to exit and the door handle became detached. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
Takata recall. water accumulates at the bottom of the trunk, where the spare tire is, in a rain storm. it was driven through small puddles.
The 2 front inside door handles stopped functioning within 2 months of each other. the door handle would just swing freely like it wasn't connected to anything. i would have to roll my window down open the door from the outside then roll the window back up to be able to turn my car off. it cost nearly $300 to fix the issues over 2 different appointments at the dealership.
2013 nissan altima. consumer writes in regards to vehicle swaying and instrument panel malfunction. *ld the consumer stated while driving the vehicle, on the same day of purchase, the hood opened. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. upon inspection of the vehicle, the front and rear passenger doors could not be opened using the interior door handle. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to deland nissan (2600 s woodland blvd, deland, fl) where it was diagnosed that the door assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Water leaks into my driver and rear floor boards when it rains. i mean it has so much water i have to use my shop vac to suck it out then take towels to the floors. car smells like mildew and mold. the driver floorboard is rusted and feels shaky and weak from all the years of water somehow leaking in when it rains!? i did research and many other people with cars like mine complain about the same thing .
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front driver's side door handle was fractured and could not be opened from inside the vehicle. the contact called jackie cooper nissan at 918-302-1766 (9898 s memorial dr, tulsa, ok 74133) and was informed that there was no recall, and to contact the manufacturer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000. *js
Takata recall vehicle has a airbag and latch problem
I was driving on hwy 45 tuesday (nov28,2017) i piece of rubber was in the hwy. i tried to dodge it but it was too late. it damaged my front bumper on my car.
The driver side interior door handle does not open the door. a small plastic piece fell off which caused the handle to stop working.
I cannot open my driver side door using the inside door handle. i pull on the handle & it moves but nothing happens. the only way i can exit the vehicle is to down the window and pull the outside handle (hurts the arthritis in my shoulder) or crawl over the middle storage compartment to the passenger side door. this situation is definitely not a safe situation if quick exit from the vehicle is needed in an emergency. what would a person with disabilities or senior do? from what i've read online the door handle assembly inside the door was poorly made using a plastic part that wears out quickly. this appears to be a very common problem and across several nissan models according to a dealer service advisor. the dealer, charleston nissan, wants $180, parts and labor, to replace. i called 1-800-nissan1 on 10/18/2017 to see if they would stand behind and cover a defective part but they showed no interest at all and declined.
Takata recall... a semi trailer swung and almost hit my car. i swerved and drop off on the shoulder of i-30, i hit the concrete retainer wall at 70mph and no airbag deployed and i had a knot on my head and black eye. also i hit 4 hogs on fm852, again no airbag.
The nissan altima 2013, driver side door handle breaks, trapping individual in car causing a safety issue in any urgent or emergency situation. car was stationary when complaint happened. frequent occurrence with thousands or models 2011-2015 as indicated by consumer reports. consideration for recall.
The interior door handle broke when i tried to open my door. the handle is made out of cheap plastic. the only way out of the car is to roll the window down and open it from the outside. this can be very dangerous if i am in a car accident and trying to get out of the car quickly to escape danger.
We have not received any recalls since purchase of car.on 06/30/17,my daughter called and informed me the car was having problems. what she described sounded as if there was water in the gas.itold her to drive to the dealer in conway ar.it was brought to our attention there was a recall on the cvt.they reprogramed it and test drove the car. they said it was ok ,but were a little iffy about whether we might have more problems.in the meantime i found out there were several recalls on the car, including the passenger side air bag and the hood latch.these were serious safety problems ,in and we had received no recalls.we would appreciate any assistance you may help with.she said it sounded as if it would blow up,at the time.she brought the car home(3.5 hr. drive)and after a brief stop,it would not budge.i loaded the car on a trailor and took it to the dealer in jonesboro ar.itold the service man about it and that i had contacted nhtsa and was assigned a case #27278124,but he didn't seem too interested in it. i later found the recall on the passenger side air bag.the conway people said they preformed the hood latch recall.p.s,ialso was told the cvt recall was internal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while exiting the vehicle, the contact heard a loud pop sound. afterwards, the interior handles on all four doors were unable to open the doors. while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact stated that the vehicle would not start and noticed a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals. the battery had been changed out three times, but the failure was still being experienced. the dealer (town center nissan, 2310 barrett lakes blvd nw, kennesaw, ga 30144) informed the contact that the door handle failure "could be a safety risk". the dealer stated that the reason the vehicle failed to start was due to corrosion of the battery terminals. both repairs would be at the contact's expense. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired and continued to experience both failures. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Eastbound mass pike, construction barrel in left lane, struck with front left bumper. fog light smashed & bumper cracked. traveling around 45-50 mph, no construction site in this area.
Interior door handle breaks on vehicle. vehicle has 12000 miles on it, and it just quit working when i tried to open the door. this results in a safety hazard as owner could not open the door in case of emergency. i did a search online and this seems to be a very common problem with these nissans, and the company may have created a new part it appears.
I have already taken this vehicle back numerous times to the dealership for the same recalls and the notification / emergency lights still come on. this happens when driving at a stop light or when i turn the car on.
I drove my car on february 28 from my garage in my house in bolton, ma to lexington ma at 9 am. upon starting, i noticed a slight strange smell. it was a bit like oil or maybe chemical smells but i am not sure as i had not smelled this before. i rolled down the windows as i drove to clear it and kept an eye on the temperature gauge, which was normal. after 5 mins, the smell cleared, the heat temp was normal and i drove for about 40 mins while talking on my bluetooth. i parked in front of grace chapel in lexington on the street and as i pulled to a stop to park on the street in front of the church, i noticed some smoke. i immediately shut off the car. within moments there were flames and i called 911 as i got out. i had only time to get my purse, my bag and the food in the trunk i was bringing for the pantry and moved away. within 3 minutes, it was engulfed about 30% up to the windshield as the first police arrived. he moved the car parked right in front of mine, thank god. two minutes later firemen came and about two minutes later they had water on the car but it was fully engulfed. they were able to keep the damage to only affect two other cars parked in the parking lot next to the street across from my car, separated by a sidewalk. the vehicle has been meticulously maintained by us. no accidents. no mechanical problems. all recalls followed. i drive normally. oil changes are done regularly. no mechanical work has been done on the car. there are recalls on the v6 2013 altimas for possible fire issues. mine is a v4. here's one website but if you google 2013 altima fires, you will find others. http://www.automotive-fleet.com/news/story/2015/10/nissan-expands-2016-maxima-recall.aspx had i been trapped, i may have died before they got me out. please protect others from this scary tragedy. I had just checked the oil and what type of oil to buy for the car, and en route at a speed of 55, the hood flew up while accelerating to the posted limit - shattering the sunroof, cracking the windshield, warping the front left and right quarter panels near the windshield, and denting the hood and roof. it also dislodged the sunroof motor and pulled part of the roof lighting console wiring harness apart. i was not made aware of a recall by nissan in either of the two campaigns on the hood latch issue - only by the insurance investigator after my claim.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice pertaining to the hood of the vehicle. the contact recently experienced a hood failure. while driving approximately 45 mph, the hood detached from the vehicle and struck the windshield, sun roof, and side mirrors. because the vehicle received a recall repair, the dealer would not repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. the recall details were not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 76,591.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the spare tire was faulty. the dealer was contacted several times, but the contact was unable to receive a response to determine if a replacement could be provided. in addition, the center console was unstable in the vehicle, the instrument panel/cluster shorted several times, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the contact was uncertain of what the dealer diagnosed and repaired. the contact no longer owned the vehicle. the vin and failure mileage were not available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures.
Last week my daughter was driving her 2013 nissan altima at approximately 20 miles hours when the hood suddenly flew up and crashed into the windshield. luckily there was no traffic around and she was able to close the hood back down and return the short distance to her home. when i inspected the vehicle the next day i discovered that the secondary hood latch did not work. upon investigation i discovered that nissan had recalls on this model for this specific issue. i contacted the nhtsa and reported the issue. i was told that the recall repair had not been done as per their records. i then contacted nissan to inform them of the issue and they said that the recall repairs had actually been completed earlier this year by a nissan dealer in florida (we purchased the vehicle from a car lot in florida in october of 2016). after a discussion with nissan customer relations they towed the vehicle to one of their local dealers for inspection (12/30/16). their investigation found that the replaced secondary latch had failed therefore allowing the hood to fly open. i am deeply concerned about the safety of this vehicle. if this had been in traffic, at a higher rate of speed or other conditions serious injuries would have been possible. how do i know that whatever new repairs that are done will solve this serious issue? *tr
In late december 2016 our 2013 nissan altima was being driven in high point, north carolina when the hood of the car flew open against the windshield causing zero visibility and the car was forced off the road causing it to be damaged. this incident involves a 2016 nissan recall on this car for a hood lock assembly replacement that was never done properly to this car. there was body damage to this vehicle due to this accident. the driver has medical injuries from this accident. the car is having smells since the accident. nissan assigned a case number and an arbitration specialist to this accident and the car is at the dealership under review. however, nobody from nissan is authorizing repair, providing medical assistance or providing transportation until the car repairs are completed. thank you for any assitance you can provide. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. the contact stated that the interior plastic door handle fractured. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the handle was not replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000. *tt the consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer and informed them of defect. the dealer wrote incorrect notes of the handle being pulled too hard. *tr
I was in a accident where i hyroplanned and the back end hit a ditch and my car went onto the median on the freeway and i totaled my car and the airbags did not deploy
We noticed that our car's black dashboard was becoming sticky and shiny during the summer. this has developed into a serious safety issue because it affects my visibility when i'm driving. the melting dashboard creates a strong glare or reflection on the windshield which impedes my ability to see the road and my surrounds. i notified my local dealership and they refused to help me with this problem. i called nissan consumer affairs which also denied my request to solve this issue. it appears that the dashboard material that is used was not properly tested for higher temperatures or that this is simply a defective part. the residue on the surface of the dashboard could also be a health hazard as the dashboard is clearly degrading and may be emitting fumes within the cabin. i also suspect that left untreated, this melting dashboard has the potential to impact the deployment of airbags within the vehicle. i expect that nissan addresses these concerns and offers a solution to this manufacturing defect before it causes an accident.
