We have classified the 387 complaints from 2013 Nissan Altima about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
In 2017 nissan has me come in for a cvt transmission upgrade. after the work was done at the nissan of cool springs and i left the dealership i noticed that the car was running rough, shaking, and jolting when i accelerated. i immediately called dealership and asked to have a tech drive the car to explain the problem. the tech got in, rode off, came back and said it was all running fine. i accepted that and assumed it was only a momentary problem. i got back in my car and it was still doing it. i came back and asked the tech to ride with me. it did it with him in the car and he told me that the car had to "adapt to my driving style." 2018, at 48,000 miles the car started to stall on me when it was idle. it would start right back up, but turn off when i put it back in drive. took it back to the nissan of cool springs dealership but they did not find any error code and told me everything is working fine and charged me around $160. i also told them this has happened with in the past 2-3 time. but at that time i was not aware of the cvt issues. recently it happened when i stopped for refuelling my car. i was fortunate enough that it did not happen on the highways.
The vehicle was on a highway and shut off without warning. the car did now allow me to pull over, just stopped. i put it into neutral and rolled it to the side. i finally got it started, and it stalled out and i could not move the car three more times in the middle of the road on the city streets before i was able to make it home. i went to the dealership and they said my cvt transmission needed to be replaced.
I am reporting a dangerous condition with 2013 nissan cvt transmission. with no warning indicator the car's transmission failed while driving on the highway at 60 - 70 mph.while driving in moderate traffic, the engine revved to 6000 rpm and the car was moving at 20 mph i was able to coast through traffic to the shoulder and turn off the car and start again and was able to again proceed. this happened several times. after parking overnight, it would no longer move in forward or reverse. the car was towed to a nissan dealership and was diagnosed with a failed transmission that will cost approx. $3700 to replace. i filed a case with nissan customer care to appeal to them due to the relatively low miles for such a catastrophic failure. we learned today that they are providing no coverage for us due to the car being out of warranty.
I was on the highway and noticed the revs bounce up to 5. it then dropped down and my car lost power. i pulled on to the shoulder and shut the car off. started it up again and it started ok. pulled off onto the next exit and stopped. went to proceed through stop sign. accelerated and it wouldn't move. it's at the shop now. possible transmission failure. are you kidding me?? this shouldn't be happening in a 5 year old car. a very dangerous problem
2013 nissan altima. consumer writes in regards to transmission safety recall. *ld the consumer stated while driving using cruise control the vehicle dropped from 75 mph to 40 mph. the rpms jumped between 4-5 and losing power. the transmission was reprogrammed, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified, but did not offer any assistance due to the mileage. the transmission needed to be repaired. *js
Driving and a weird humming sound happened and the car lost power would not go over 35 mph the rpm went to 5000 i got pulled over lost all power so i turned car off for appx 15-20 min and car drove fine. again today driving to work and car lost all power and a humming sound acted like wouldn't go into gear pulled over this time took sitting appx 1 hour then started and was ok to get back home and i parked it
07/09/2013 took car in for a cvt reprogram, i noticed the changes in shifting but thought it was due to the software reprogram,on 08/23/2018 while driving the car engine shuts off, manage to start it up and drove home, later on that evening i tried to start the car and when i shift to reverse or drive the car will cut off, 08/30/2018 towed my car to the nissan dealership, they ran a diagnostic and i need a new transmission, nissan needs to take care of this cvt i just don't have the money for a transmission.
Transmission whining loosing power on the highway very dangerous
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. on several occasions, while driving at unknown speeds, the transmission slipped. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond with the gear shift lever in drive or reverse. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 91,707.
Cvt trasmission has failed after 76000 miles. causes car to die while driving, and while coming to a complete stop.
My nissan altima starting bumping when driving. i took it to the nissan dealership and was told the cvt transmission was going bad. nissan will not cover the transmission even though they know cvt goes bad in all of their models after 60,000 which is when the warranty runs out!
Car would turn off when slowing down or idle. would start back up, but turn back off when put in drive. the worst time this was experienced was during an on ramp merger on the highway.
The problem with the 2013 nissan alima cvt 2.5 model. the car stops when ideling which creates a dangerous situation on the road. the rpm will fluctuate without warning and gears slipping at road speeds. similar cases have been discussed in various forum and nissan is not willing to take this as there responsibilty of creating an inferior quality product. it is time nissan owns up to it
In 2018 initially it started when we were driving it down the highway or street and it seem to lose power and we would press on the gas and it would sputter. there were times when we're at the stoplight and press on the gas and it wouldn't move creating a dangerous situation. this happened for about 2 months until it wouldn't move in drive or reverse, so towed home then to dealership because of a recall on a transmission control module only to find out from the service department that they could not update the control module because the vehicle would not move they did a diagnostic test and said we needed a cvt automatic transaxle assembly transmission. we bought it used in 2016 and now it only has 74,000 miles on it. never had a problem out of it until last year 2018. now when we put it in drive or reverse it will not move.
I was driving on the highway, the car started making a strange noise, shifting hard and the check engine light came on...i decided to leave the highway as the car was losing speed. at the first light, the car stalled in the middle of the road... the trouble is that i did not realize until the light turned green and cars in from of me started moving and i couldn't almost got hit from behind by incoming cars. ended up moving slowly to the side. got the car towed to a nissan dealer that advised that it a cvt failure. my car has 83k miles, nissan is not willing to help.
2013 nissan altima sl with 66k. transmission needed replaced at 66k miles. nissan diagnosed the issue. after hearing it would cost me over 3700 to replace i began doing research on these cvt transmission. it's a known issue with these cvts. so with all of the bad reviews on the internet, i inquired with nissan consumer affairs with assistance in this cost. i waited a week for them to tell me they will not assist me in this repair. nissan has recalled a number of years and extended the warranty from 60k to 120k. they obviously have not fixed the problem with these transmissions. there is no reason a transmission is needing replaced at 60k. i bought this vehicle because nissan is very known for the reliability and their cars are suppose to last. after having this issue and hearing nissan will not take responsibility for this issue is very frustrating. this is deff a danger issue. my vehicle gave me no indication or lights that there was an issue until i was on the highway with my 4 children when it went from 80 to 50 mph i'm cruise. and then hesitating to go and i was an hour away from home. something needs to be done on thee transmission.
My 2013 altima started to hesitate and jerk when i was driving. then when i would be stopped and ready to pull out my car will not go and then finally catch and go. it wont go over 30 miles an hr at some points. when i brought it to nissan they did a diagnostic on it and its the cvt transmission that needs to be replaced. i was told my warranty expired 2000 miles ago and its gonna cost me $3500 for a new one. ive only owned my car for 2 yrs. i am so dissatisfied with nissan and they are so unprofessional to not fix this known problem with there cvt issues on all their vehicles.. i have also replaced the inside door handles on both doors..
In july/august of 2017, my vehicle was sputtering at lower speeds when accelerating or decelerating and then the vehicle would suddenly turn off. there were several scenarios when this happened during busy traffic. upon receiving a manufacturer recall, i took the vehicle to the dealership for maintenance on the transmission computer system. all seemed fixed until june of 2018 when the vehicle was having the same issues, again while in the middle of traffic. i took the vehicle into the dealership and the dealership is telling me the transmission torque converter was damaged and i need to replace the entire transmission at a cost of $4,300. upon internet research, it seems this has been a common problem for nissan's cvt transmission; in fact, nissan extended 2012 and previous models transmission warranties to 10 year 120,000 miles. so far, nissan has offered no assistance or good will in fixing the defected part / issue.
My car recently today stated to lock the dear shift when i park it started this morning and has continued every time i turn off my car. previous issue i took it in to nissan tynans on havana in aurora co (never go there) because it is sputtering any time i accelerate at any speed on any road right before it would what you call back in the day shift into another gear. tynans first said it was a battery cable and when it wasnt fixed they are say there isnt anything wrong with the car. i believe the cvt is causing it to sputter i told tynans i thought it was a transmission issue to begin with. needless to say my car is not fixed and is still sputtering and just bought it owe about $14000 still!
The vehicle began to slow while driving on interstate. as i attempted to accelerate the rpms increased without any increase in speed. as i attempted to exit interstate, the vehicle stalled before exit ramp. multiple vehicles had to maneuver around me. it would not accelerate. i coasted to the side of the interstate. i put the car in park on shoulder of interstate and let about 5 minutes go by before testing acceleration. upon testing, it maintained enough speed (25 mph top speed) for me to exit interstate and return to dealership near me. once i made it to dealership, car shut off. it had just been repaired for some recall centered around transmission.
As i was driving home on a highway, and especially at stop lights, the tachometer would drop to 0 rpm and i would have to try to get the vehicle going again by restarting the engine, sometimes several times. after getting home, the vehicle refused to move even though the engine would start. the vehicle was 3000 miles over the power train warranty limit of 60,000 miles, so i took it to a local aamco transmission shop. the aamco shop found that the transmission had completely failed and determined that it needed to be replaced, which cost roughly $4000.
The car shut off when i was driving . very dangerous because no brakes no sterling.
The gear shift is locked and i can not shift gear from park to drive and neither reverse. the car was parked under my car port on level ground. i started engine, and placed foot on brake and began to shift out of park and into reverse, but shift was locked. i tried to shift to drive but it still would not engage.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while operating the vehicle, the transmission began to malfunction. the contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately respond when depressing the accelerator pedal and the speed reduced before the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the local dealer (germain nissan of columbus, 4600 morse rd, columbus, oh) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 90,000.
I was driving my vehicle when i lost power i then pulled over and parked when i put the gear in drive it was no power i kept taking the car back to the deal and they didn't do anything to fix the problem all they want is the money for the car note so on 3/1/19 i took my car to aamco to run a test on it this is the 6 place that told my my transmission is bad
While driving home from work the car shuttered and cut off after having stopped for a light. this happened when i press the exhilarator to continue on. i put the car in park applied my foot to the break and restarted the car. every time i would drive to put the car in gear it would cut off. it kept doing this over and over. local police came and with the help of a good samaritan pushed my car off the road to a safe place. i had to have my car towed to the dealer where they were unable to duplicate the problem and said that the diagnostic computer test did not show any codes for the problem. they ended up updating the transmission module and said they hoped this would fix the problem. the problem continues to occur and i have had to avoid stopping at lights due to the car wanting to cut off. this seems to be a problem that other nissan car owners are also facing. this is a very dangerous situation to be in due to the fact that you never know when you will be stranded in the middle of a street whether it be interstate stop and go traffic or normal city street traffic. once the car stalls it's no way to start it and put it in gear to drive without it stalling again and again. nissan owners need a recall
I bought my car brand new with only 113 miles on it. i have sense put 160k highway miles on it but have had no issues until now because i get it serviced regularly. i was driving to work last week and at 30-45 mph the rpms started jumping between 1k and 2k. once i got past 60 mph this stopped but eventually my car would stutter and stall at traffic lights making it dangerous if turning in front of traffic or coming through intersections. i took it in immediately for diagnostics and was told i needed a new transmission and since my warranty was out i would need to pay $4500 out of pocket. i got a second opinion and i was told by the dealership i service it at that it was my fault because i didn't have the transmission flushed when they told me to, yet there is nothing in the owners manual stating this is a requirement, only a recommendation by the dealer. as shady as dealerships are these days of course i didn't have it done because i assumed they were charging me for something unnecessarily. i spoke with a mechanic friend of mine and he said the transmission flush would have done nothing to prevent my transmission fail. what is even worse is that no warning lights came on and my dash looked the same as it always does, the only lights that came on were my battery and brake lights when my car shut off at a traffic light, but it started right back up after that. i have asked for assistance from nissan and have been denied even though i have serviced my car with the dealer even after my warranty expired. there are 4 other people in my family that own nissans but apparently that means nothing to this company. needless to say if i can get this thing traded in on a honda i will never purchase a nissan again! also, just do a google search of problems with nissan altimas. the results are staggering.
2013 nissan altima defective cvt. purchased a used 2013 nissan altima with 62k miles on it and quickly realized i had bought a car with a failing transmission. it has been established that the transmission could fail in a manner that could cause an accident. the current symptoms are poor acceleration followed by a surge in acceleration, shuddering, etc. i have had the cvt fluid changed and reprogrammed twice and the issue still remains. until i can have the transmission replaced i risk the vehicle suddenly de-accelerating on the road without brake lights causing an accident.
Cvt transmission went on my altima. my warranty ran out in february of 2018, the transmission went out in may of 2018. the company paid for half $2200 and i had to pay the other half. i feel with all the issues nissan is experiencing with their cvt i should not have had to pay anything.
Continuous issues with transmission. when car gets hot, which can be within minutes living in arizona, the gas pedal when floored, barely increases speed from a stop. car has been to dealership 3 times for service of this issue. 1st time a cooler was added to the transmission. then a recall was issued and we brought it in again. things were working for a short period of time. now that the weather is starting to warm up, the issue is occurring again. i brought it back to the dealership and they claim they can't find anything wrong, no codes/errors appeared. the issue continues. after speaking with a couple of reputable mechanics, this is a known issue with the cvt transmission and there is no known fix. i do not feel safe driving my car.
My car is a 2013 nissan altima and it just hit 90,000 miles. i purchased the car in march 2013 with 45,000 miles on it. may 25th my car started having trouble. it included going backwards when the car was in drive, losing power as i'm driving, reving/winding noise, and finally not moving at all. everything pointed a problems with the transmission and to take it to a nissan dealership. after doing the diagnostics, they said i needed to replace the transmission. because my warranty ran out in march i asked about the cost of the replacement and was told it was $3,800. i spoke with nissan consumer affairs on may 29th and was told that the regional consumer manager would call. jason did call and said he had to research. on tuesday, june 5th, the decision was that because the car was out of warranty they would not cover the transmission replacement. i asked him about the recall that was issued by nissan in december 2016 acknowledging the cvt transmissions needed to be reprogrammed and if not it would lead to accelerated damage. i also made him aware that i never received that notice. his response was because i was not the original owner of the vehicle, i did not receive the recall notice. he would not answer how if nissan knew that the cvt transmissions were a problem on some vehicles why did it matter that my warranty had expired in march. he also had no response to me saying that a normal transmission does not need to be replaced on a car that is only 5 years old and has not even hit 100,000 miles. so although it is a well known issue with some of the cvt transmissions, a recall that is on nissan's website associated with my vin number, the acknowledgement that i did not receive the recall notice to bring it in for service, i am stuck with a $3,800 repair bill if i want to fix my car.
Transmission failed at 44k mileage. first the engine shut off while driving without any warning or signs on highway. then after reprogramming of the transmission by dealer, car runs abnormally. engine rpm unstable, unpredictable, causing speed changes. no pedal response or slow acceleration. difficult to accelerate, especially over 40 mph. gear shifting between d and n very often leave the gear in n for a few seconds.
My wife's altima transmission shudders when driving and the vehicle has went into limp mode several times while driving it at highway speeds due to the transmission problem. she was almost involved in an accident due to the vehicle suddenly without warning drop speed from engaging limp mode. vehicle has just over 70k miles and the dealer states the vehicle is out of warranty and they did not extend the cvt warranty like they had on previous model years. now we have a vehicle that needs a 4,000 transmission and hardly any mileage that would warrant a transmission replacement.
I am experiencing intermittent cvt failures at mileage: 45000. once i was stationary and in the other instance i was on the city street, when i experienced sudden power loss, all warning light came on. whenever i started my car and put it in reverse or drive it just turned off. after 4 to 5 tries car started. i looked up online and it had symptoms similar to the cvt failure. i went to nissan service centre twice for the same issue but they did not find anything and said everything is in perfect condition.
It started with a whirling when descending an incline. since i had the recall work completed, i assumed this sound was normal. i have never driven or been a passenger in a nissan. exactly 1,383 miles after my warranty and 13 months and 2 days after the recall work the car began to shudder and cut off at intersections. this is extremely dangerous in atlanta and its famous spaghetti junction. the first time i assumed it was a fluke. the 2nd time i wanted to blame it on bad gas. i had a diagnostic done, however, there were no codes. a technician drove it and said it felt like it was searching, but did not shut off. he told me to pop it in neutral when approaching a light or slow down. i drove to an aamco where it shuddered and shut off in their lot. five hours later aamco was unable to duplicate the shut off and found no codes. i took it to a different nissan dealer than the one that performed the recall work. they got no codes, but they were willing to sell me a battery, cables and an idle reboot for $360! the nissan manager picked me up as a curtsey and once i told him the problems, he immediately said that he knew exactly what the problem was-the torque converter. that basically the car was stuck in 4th and couldn't slip into 1st. i asked that a technician drive it home in hopes of duplicating. the next day a service rep reported that they were unable to duplicate the shuddering/shut-off, but that they could feel it searching for gears. they said it was possibly a torque converter and that a total rebuild of the transmission at $4,000 was required. aamco is willing to replace the torque converter as long as i acknowledge that i may need a total rebuild as they have never seen it just be a torque converter. as i owe more than the car is worth, i have zero options but to pay for a costly rebuild.
My transmission stopped working in the middle of a busy intersection with my grand children in the car. construction vehicles were speeding by on either side and i was helpless. i was told by my dealer that the warranty was up by three months even though my 2013 nissan altima had only 50,000 miles on it. the safety factor should speak for itself. on the web there are hundreds upon hundreds of complaints about this issue especially the 2013 nissan altima. i believe it's time to recall this automobile before someone gets seriously hurt. thank you for your time and consideration concerning this matter.
My 2013 nissan altima has 87000 miles on it and had a second transmission failure that needs replacing. this was quoted at $3600+ tax. this failure is due to a transmission fluid pressure sensor going bad that can't be changed alone and requires a whole new transmission. 2 transmission replacements in under 87000 miles is unreasonable.
I have a 2013 nissan altima with 45k miles on it. the car starts up and idles in park just fine. however, when i shift it into gear (drive or reverse), the car sputters and stalls. it doesn't sputter and stall until i take my foot off the brake. i am able to drive it just fine if i immediately press on the gas after shifting into drive. the check engine light turns on only when the car stalls. i took it to nissan there was no code recorded - not sure why. it happened with me 5 times in a row in a day.
My transmission failed and it only has 70000 miles on it, i know i'm not the only one this has happened to. i think everyone needs to be reimbursed or some form of compensation for this problem.
Having issues accelerating (in motion) when driving the vehicle. engine light came on. according to the mechanic when the system was checked, the problem/issue originates from the automatic transmission. after further investigation, this seems to be an issue with the nissan altima vehicles.
93,000 miles, transmission failed with no warning
The gear shift in my 2013 nissan altima stopped working. i looked up the problem on youtube and it said that the brake sensor was not relaying information to the gear shift. the vehicle will not shift into gear. the emergency shift lock must be used to take the car out of park.the problem began gradually, with the gear sift becoming "stuck" when shifting, and in a matter of 2 months, the gear shift has completely stopped working. when the vehicle is going from park to any other gear it will not shift. once it is taken out of park, it will shift between any gears with no problem, until it is placed back in park.
Transmission making noises and causes car to stall i was in the center lane of highway car stalled almost was struck by semi-truck scared us to death i've since read many problems with these units very dangerous i think nissan should have a recall to rectify this issue for public safety reasons
Cvt transmission failed completely on 2013 nissan altima 2.5 s with 92,000 miles. vehicle began shuddering and jerking while driving at moderate speed in town. rpms shot up to 3-4k intermittently while maintaining speed on flat road. started to hear grinding noise from engine compartment, so pulled into parking lot. after waiting an hour for power train to cool off, started the car again to find total cvt failure, with vehicle stalling and engine shutting off upon shifting into r or d. could not even drive vehicle back into parking space after it rolled backwards on first attempt to move. vehicle was towed to dealership, who diagnosed internal cvt failure with $3800 quote for repair. nissan consumer affairs was contacted numerous times and offered no assistance. nissan regional specialist stated that 2007-2010 altima cvt warranty was extended to 120,000 miles due to widespread problems, but that problems had been fixed in newer models, so no warranty extension applied to 2013 altima. as of april 2018, the 2013 altima has more power train complaints to nhtsa (241) than all of the 2007-2010 altima model years combined (206). vehicle had tcm reprogramming performed at nissan dealership in april 2017 within two weeks after recall notice was sent to owner by mail.
As i was driving my 2013 nissan altima with 35k miles on it, i came to a stoplight at a busy intersection and my car cut off completely without any indication that something was wrong. i was not able to put my foot on the brakes, i could not move my steering wheel, it just cut off. i was able to cut my car back on, however whenever i shifted my gear into drive it cut off again. i had my car towed to the nissan dealership, and they stated they could not find the issue but reprogrammed my cvt since there was a recall issued for my car. they determined that after driving it for 25 minutes that day and 25 minutes the next that the cvt reprogramming could have been the solution to the problem but to return it to the dealer if it happened again. 3 days later my car began shaking and stalling very roughly while in motion and again cut off in the middle of the road while in drive. this time my young son was in the car with me, and him and i could have both been harmed or caused an accident and harmed someone else. this is unacceptable that nissan has not recalled these vehicles or the car has been returned to customers without a solution to the problem.
Wish i had seen all these complaints before purchasing this vehicle 7 months ago for way more than i should have. within 3 months the transmission went out and i had to spend $4,000 to get it rebuilt. it has been back to the mechanic 4 times (luckily under their warranty) and is still messing up every few weeks. i feel like this is a defect through nissan and they should take some responsibility. i guess they would rather get a bad reputation and less future sales. my car has completely stopped working while i have been on the interstate going 70 mph. i have 2 children to transport and 2 sick parents. i should be able to rely on this vehicle and i can't. very frustrating !!! if i didn't owe so much on it, i would definitely get rid of it. i previously had a 1997 nissan altima that gave me very little trouble, but now i will never purchase a nissan again !!! www.carcomplaints.com says to avoid this car like the plague. i think they are so very right.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph in local traffic, the vehicle decelerated to 5 mph without warning. the contact was able to avoid a crash by coasting onto the road shoulder. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was towed to brown's fairfax nissan (11010 fairfax boulevard, fairfax, va 22030, (703)-591-8009) where it was diagnosed that the transmission torque converter failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 83,000.
Car stalled in traffic while stopped at light. cuts off when put in any gear. un driveable. cvt transmission needs replacement. only 69,000miles. similar complaints reported for this make and model
2013 nissan altima with only 52k miles i first noticed the problem when i was backing out of my drive way; first it stalled, shaky when i accelerate slightly it was fine. when i went to change to park mode; experience the same thing stalked&shake if i stopped at a light, stop sign, or change speed i experienced the same problem this will happen in busy traffic, highways in fact my 17 year old daughter (1st time driven herself home from work) experience it, at a very busy intersection she couldn't get the car going. we had to turn the engine off for about 15-30minutes and pressed/ pulsed the gas to finally get it to move... this all happened for 3 days and i took it to nissan dealership (payed $140 to diagnose the problem) mechanic said just from driving the car into the shop, 9/10 it may be the transmission. to pinpoint the problem they will have to remove the cover body ($546) and if it's the transmission, repairs will cost $4600!!!! even though mileage is within the warranty range of <60k it's not covered because they claimed the car was in an accident and was salvaged. i really don't understand why that will impact it given the car had only 13k when i purchased it. it seem this is common problem reported by many with this particular car. from what i have read, complains dating back to identical to issues with 2008-2011 models, multiple recalls... this sort of problems could course accidents and loss if life. these are human problems...i believe nissan should be held accountable and to much higher standards in this space- vehicle manufacturing, dealership, parts, sales, repairs etc. if nothing is done to address these issues, i will never purchase a nissan!!!
My nissan altima was in park it started up however i could not get the car out of park this is a 2013 this is a very serious issue after reading the many complaints concerning the shifter and cvt this car needs an immediate recall before someone is killed. each time the car was stuck in park the car was running and stationary the nissan dealership diagnosed the problem as the shifter and said the whole shifter needs replacing after viewing numerous complaints a recall must be issued before it's too late. i can provide documentation if needed the repair was 768.00 this is an on going problem with nissan 2012-current. *js
