Dashboard has started to melt in my 2008 nissan altima coupe that has greatly impaired my vision when driving on the road on a sunny day. the glare reflected from the melting portion of my dash is reflected onto my windshield. i have almost been in multiple accidents due to the lack of visibility. *tr

The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe started melting around may, 2013. at first it was not noticeable but now there are big shiny, sticky patches on my dashboard. this would not be a problem but while driving during the day the sun reflects off of the melted areas and causes a glare on my windshield that greatly reduces my visibility. because of that i tend to not drive it often. also its giving off the smell of burned plastic. after doing some research i found i am not the only one who is having this problem. it seems common in places like texas, florida, and california. https://www.facebook.com/nissanusa/posts/10152938385130375 http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582.html. *tr

My dashboard has melted creating a terrible glare that is not just distracting while driving but dangerous because i cannot see through my windshield during the day or when on coming headlights come towards me during the night. not only is it terribly dangerous but the melting is making my dash sticky causing parking passes to stick and leave residue. *tr

2008 nissan altima coupe's dashboard is melting. i live in florida and apparently nissan didn't take into account the weather here when using material for their dashboards on this year and model. the whole top dashboard is sticky and looks like a wet substance. because of this it creates an intense glare that is a sever safety hazard when driving. i called 1800-nissan and they don't want to do anything even though they used faulty material. this is a known concern since others have had the same issue. if u do a google search of this issue, you'll find its a very common problems for nearly all nissan altima (2008) who live in southern climates and nissan will not accept responsibility of this issues, does someone has to die in a accident or get dismembered ? thank you *tr

Tl * the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the dashboard had become sticky and was deteriorating. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire dashboard needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 51,000.

My wife and i started to notice that the dashboard of our car is melting. we are extremely concerned about safety because the glare off of the shiny melted surface can decrease the driver's ability to see perfectly clear. it is a hazard, especially during sunny days. i have done some research online, and i notice many other car's owner experiencing the same safety issue. the melting is getting worse and nissan don't want to be held accountable. this should be a recall for the safety of public transportation and everyone around. *tr

My dashboard started to melt with the rising temperatures this summer and is spreading and getting worse as the temperature rises...... which is caused by the substandard materials they used to manufacture the dashboard... <<<< in this day and age, what else could it be >>>> and has developed a sheen that is reflecting a large glare back at the windshield which makes it unsafe to drive on sunlit days. *tr

My dashboard is melting. when i drive, the sun hits the dashboard. it looks like a sheet of water because it is melted. the reflection hits my eyes and affects visibility. everything that touches the dashboard gets sticky and black marks. i have tried to get this resolved with nissan, but they refuse to cover all of the costs. i cannot afford to pay the huge labor costs and i do not fee that i should be liable for a factory defect. this is not only cosmetic, but a safety issue. *tr

I started to notice sticky spots an my dash about 12 months ago. now it is covering most of the dash. this is creating a problem when i am driving during the day .if i am driving towards the sun the glare coming off of the dash is almost blinding. this makes it a safety problem and should be covered as a recall from the manufacture. *tr

The dashboard has began to seep liquid out of the rubber that they use and is making the glare from the dash on the windshield extremely dangerous to drive. it is difficult to see during the day with the glare and could cause an accident. *tr

I live in south florida and the dashboard has been melting. it's a hazard and it produces a glare in the windshield and interferes with visibility. i'm afraid that an accident is going to happen because i cannot see clearly due to the glare. someone is going to get hurt. the dashboard is also sticky to the touch and pieces are starting to come away from the dashboard. *tr

The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is melting. i have never applied any chemical cleaning solutions to the dashboard and i bought the vehicle brand new. the intense glare from the melting dash board is so intense that i have on numerous occasions almost been involved in accidents. i am also concerned that this defect could cause a fire in the vehicle. the nissan claims department states that the melting dashboard is not covered because the warranty has expired and the dealership claims to of never seen a dashboard melt. an internet information search for "2008 nissan altima dashboard melting" reveals numerous other 2008 nissan altima owners dealing with the same problem. *tr

I own a 2008 nissan altima coupe. the dashboard which is the original has begun to melt and the glare is very bad. i have not added any solvents or chemicals to the dashboard. i find it hard to drive on sunny days due to my windshield reflecting the glare caused by the melting dashboard. this problem could have caused me to be in numerous accidents. i have searched for a remedy to this problem yet the only one is to replace the dashboard and i imagine this would just happen again due to the material the dashboard is made from. i would hope nissan recalls these dashboards and makes new ones. i have also looked into this and i am not the only one with this problem. *tr

I have had my car since 2008. bought it brand new from nissan in kendall miami, fl. last year i started to notice that what has seemed like a regular wear from the car, has turned into a safety issue while driving. there is a glare when the sun hits the dash making it nearly impossible to see clearly. i know it sounds strange, but my dash is melting. this is a serious safety as i could potentially get into an accident. the only temporary solution we have found is to purchase a custom made dashboard. however, i don't see why nissan has not helped. i brought it back to my local dealership and they have said that since i am out of warranty, i'm out of luck. i've had attorneys offering to start a class action lawsuit being that i am not the only one with this issue, but all i want is to have my dash replaced and that's it. it is only fair that nissan would stand behind the product. is there anything that i can do about this? thank you in advance. *tr

A few months ago, while cleaning the interior of my car i noticed the dashboard was sticky in a small area on the driver's side. thinking it was something that could be cleaned i applied an adhesive remover but had no positive results. now that we are in the dead heat of summer, the problem has gotten worse and has now spread to the passenger side along with creating an unbelievable glare from the windshield. now, when i touch it, pieces of the material stick to my finger. that was real eye opener to look into it and see if it has been a problem with other nissan owners. with only a few mins. of research i'm finding that it's widely common, especially here in fl. i have also noticed a crack that spans about 15 inches along the bridge of the dashboard just above the gauges. this isn't the nissan quality we hear about! totally unacceptable! *tr

My dashboard is melting and creates an awful glare on the windshield - almost like shining a mirror at the sun. it's blinding at times when the sun hits it just right. the problem has progressively gotten worse over the span of a year. when it's extremely hot (nearly 100 out), the dashboard is almost like a thick goop that comes off on my fingers when i touch it. i haven't put any sort of chemical or wax on it as a nissan representative has suggested. not only is this hazardous while driving, but i'm concerned there may be some harmful chemical (carcinogenic?) that i'm inhaling while in my car. *tr

The dashboard started to melt and it is only getting worst. it is sticky ,you cannot clean or wipe. but the biggest problem is the extreme glare off the shiny melted surface. despite hundreds of complaints, nissan said they didn't know about any dashboard melt. i am also not sure if there is a health risk. *tr

The dashboard of my altima is melting and has been melting. it is extremely hard to see when driving, in fact has almost gotten me in multiple wrecks. is it still safe enough not to be recalled? when the sun hits the windshield i can hardly see. you'd rather risk lives rather than have the manufacture replace a faulty cosmetic part they put on the market. *tr

Vehicle dashboard plastic is melting which is creating a glare in the windshield while driving. *tr

My dashboard starting melting about 3 years ago. i left a message on nissans facebook page and they told me to take it to a nissan dealership to get it diagnosed. i did that and they diagnosed it as a melting dashboard. i sent all the paperwork back to them and they answered me by saying the extended warranty was expired so they couldn't do anything about it. it is very sticky and is leaving a glare on the windshield and making it hard to see. it it also cracking in various places. nissan should not sell a car that cannot stand the south florida sun! i would like nissan to take charge and replace my dashboard free of charge because this is a manufacturing mistake not caused by me! *tr

Dash board is melting. bought the car in 2012 and noticed tackiness in places and asked dealership about it and they said it wasn't a problem. well less than a year later the dash was noticeable melting and cracking in many places. i have a child that rides in the car with me. i get nervous when driving towards the sun. these cars shouldn't be doing this and should be recalled and nissan fix the problem before someone is in a fatal accident because they could t see.

My 2008 nissan altima dash has been melting for the past 3-4 years and is now causing an inability to see while driving. there is a large reflection on the windshield during daytime driving making it very difficult to see objects and other cars in front of me. the corporate office at nissan offered 1/2 off the price, but i believe this should be a recall due to the dangers that it's causing for many drivers.

Dashboard melted, causing a bright vision-affecting glare on the inside of the windshield. reduces visibility greatly, will likely cause an accident before too long. *tr

Affected area of vehicle :dashboard this is a safety hazard! this vehicle was purchased on 7/14/2012. at the time of purchase, it had approximately 36889 miles. purchased as a previously owned vehicle. about one month after, we noticed that the top of the dashboard by the windshield material started to melt. the material, is like a foam that gets hot, sticky and starts to melt. it can start a fire any minute. we took the vehicle to the nissan dealership, located at semoran blvd in orlando, fl, the same place we bought the car two months before. the staff at the dealership proceeded to inform me that, after several visits, that they never seen something like that and they couldn't do anything because the warranty expired. we took the vehicle to a nissan authorized shop. the technician informed us that for the nissan model for that year 2008 the material used was not the standard one. we are reaching out to nissan to remedy this problem immediately. this is not only an issue that needs to be cover by the manufacturer and present a safety hazard to my family and the community in general. if we don't hear from nissan in 10 days we are going to go to bbb and the government. *tr updated 02/06/13

My dashboard started melting about 2 years ago. it is getting worse and causes a terrible glare on my windshield. *tr

Dashboard surface has degraded gradually.causing a mirror effect from the sticky surface. it is extremely difficult to see due to the glare from the dash surface at times creating a very dangerous condition. i know of many others in south florida that have the same condition. *tr

The dashboard in my 2008 altima coupe is melting and creates an extremely reflective surface that prevents me from being able to see the road, while driving in sunny condition. the melting/sticky started with a small spot on the dash then the problem got worse and spread over the entire dashboard. the glare caused by the melting dashboard is a definite safety hazard and it is getting worse. *tr

My wife and i noticed that the dashboard on her 2008 nissan altima coupe was melted, leaving a sticky substance that seems impossible to remove and causes an intense glare when driving in the sun. we can barely see the road when driving and have called nissan regarding this issue but they do not acknowledge this issue as a safety hazard. *tr

I purchased a brand new 08 nissan altima 2.5s in september of 2007. i live in central florida, and for more than a year, my dashboard has turned shiny, sticky, and is quite literally melting. the last 6 months to a year, i noticed that the part around the radio unit has been cracking and "softening". in the daytime, the shiny melting part of the dash reflects onto my windshield and creates a blinding glare that makes it difficult and dangerous to even see the road. i have tried various cleaning solutions until i realized that wasn't the problem. i have come across many people who have been experiencing the same problem, most in florida, and all 2008 altimas. i will enclose a link to the forum where many altima owners have found thanks to google with the issue. i would be happy to send some pictures of the dashboard if necessary. http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582.html. *tr

On february 2013 i had a frontal car accident due to the glare on my windshield of my melting dash board on my 08 altima. my dashboard seems to be melting with out no reason. dealer will not replace defective dashboard as it is not part of a recall. this is a serious issue which may cause a serious accident raven death to a motorist or pedestrian. nissan needs to make a recall on this issue, it is obvious that this was a defect on their behalf for the majority of 08 altimas. *

My dashboard is melting on my 2008 nissan altima. it creates a glare on the windshield which makes visibility difficult. i use windshield visors and i don't use harsh cleaners/chemicals on my dashboard for cleaning. it is a defect from production and should be recalled for safety concerns. *jb

2008 nissan altima 2.5s dash panel/dashboard is melting. the dash panel soft-touch coating material first turned sticky and eventually disintegrated into a viscous substance. surface finish turned from matte to high gloss. the now reflective dash surface causes a large glare on the windshield and obstructs driver's visibility. *tr

Dashboard is sticky and melting. can't clean it. glare on the windshield affects safe driving. *tr

Beginning in 2012 (less than 4 years after purchasing my car), i started to notice that portions of the dashboard were melting. in the years since, it has gotten progressively worse. my mechanic told me he's never seen anything like it, even in much, much older cars. from what i can tell, many others are experiencing this same problem. this is not a cosmetic issue, but rather a serious safety concern. the melting dashboard is shiny and reflects sunlight, causing sudden blinding glares while driving. i have experienced these sudden flashes of light several times on the highway. the reality of being unable to see while at speeds exceeding 60 miles is incredibly scary and dangerous. *tr

My 2008 nissan altima coupe has a melting dashboard. the dash is melting so bad that it is causing an extremely bad glare on my windshield and i can't see brake lights of cars ahead of me or even a car if it's small. *tr

I am so upset because my dashboard is melting and it looks horrible. my dashboard is so sticky and is coming right off and cannot even be touched. it is a safety hazard because the glare from the sun and dashboard makes it very hard to see! i am sad that i paid so much money for my car and it has this problem. *js

The dash appears to be melting. this appears to be a pretty wide spread issue as evident in several nissan online forums. my dash has become soft, sticky and shiny in several very large spots. if this were just a cosmetic issue, i wouldn't be posting here. this is becoming a safety issue. the dash creates a glare on the windshield that is nearly impossible to see through without the use of polarized sunglasses. at a minimum, i just want to find something that will remove or reduce the glare by dulling the shiny spots. *tr

Dashboard is sticky and the glare from the sun reflects onto the windshield and you cannot see properly. only thing you can see is the dashboard reflecting off of the windshield. *tr

The dash of the vehicle has been continuously deteriorating. it is as if it is melting. since we purchased the car it is progressively getting worse, and is now a serious safety issue, due to the light that reflects off of the melted parts of the dash. it reflects the sunlight during the day and the headlights at night directly into the drivers eyes... this is a documented issue with numerous nissan altimas of the same year. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the dash board melted and created a glare over the windshield. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the dashboard was not replaced. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 83,000. updated 03/31/14*lj updated 04/01/14

The dashboard started melting about 2 years ago. first it was sticky, and now it is has melted to the point that it has become shiny and puts a glare on over half of the windshield. the glare is so intense that the driver cannot see what is in the path of the car. the melting is also releasing something into the car that is causing a residue on all of the windows that is difficult to remove. the residue also creates a glare when the sun is low in sky that decreases visibility. i drive through metro areas and it is often difficult the see pedestrians due to the glare caused by the melting dashboard. this creating a serious safety issue not only for the passengers in the car, but also for others on the road and pedestrians. *tr
