Sometime in december 2013 i noticed the dashboard of my nissan altima 2008 melting causing a shiny substance the causes a tremendous glare on the windshield which makes it difficult to see when driving. this should not be happening...obviously defective materials by nissan. i have researched and on one complaint forum alone found 196 pages of the same complaint and the same year and model.. i filed a complaint directly with nissan on 2-17-14 i was told that i needed to get a diagnoses from a nissan dealer so i did...nissan clearly stated that the dashboard needed to be replaced...well on 2-21-14 a nissan rep named [xxx] out of tennessee called me back and said that nissan will not pay for the replacement of the dashboard... i can supply you with photos of my issues and a list of 100's of others with the same complaint. i appreciate your assistance with this matter... information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I live in orlando, fl and i had my vehicle for almost 5yrs. this year the dashboard has slowly began to melt. it is tack and if you touch it black goo comes off on your hands.the car inside smells weird no matter how much i clean and use febreeze and also provides a blinding glare when driving. *tr
My 2008 nissan altima 2.5sl's dashboard developed a gooey/sticky substance that i can't seem to get off...almost as if it's melting. the problem is the glare from the sun impacts my view as it projects up at the windshield. *js
After filing a complaint with nissan consumer affairs about my deteriorating dashboard they told me to go to a nissan dealer and get an estimate on replacing the dash, then they would let me know if they would give me some financial assistance. i complied with them, made appt.. received the estimate of $1726.03. i presented this to consumer affairs, then after numerous phone calls to finally get an answer of "no we decided not to give you any financial support because the car was out of warranty !! this is not a damaged part due to accident, this is a factory defect!! this car is unsafe to drive during the day because of the glare from the sun, and unsafe after dark due to headlights and streetlights. i have taken this complaint to my local t.v. investigations and do not plan on stopping until i get a new dashboard.. i have seen this very same complaint on numerous 2008's !!!! this is obviously a manufacture defect! has anybody out there received any resolution???!!! *tr
My front dash is melting where the sun hits. it is now like gum, sticky. *tr
The dashboard on my car is sticky and gooey and reflects sunlight glare that makes it almost impossible to see through when sunny. i am short and have to sit and stop between the glare where there is a small area that doesnt obstruct my vision. i also have cracks around steering wheel and stereo areas and have chunk of the dashboard now revealing the foam underneath. the rest of the car is in mint condition other than the dash. i reported to nissan and they told me to get estimate to get fixed. i still have received no response on what they are doing but the estimate came in at over 2500 and i cant afford to shell out that kind of money. the problem is getting worse and spreading quickly. i just paid off the car in february this year and it began to show signs of glare at that time. the sticky started around november or and i thought it was our fault until i saw a story about the melting dashboards on our local news and the pictures were exactly as my car showed. i am most concerned with the glare as i feel it is a definite safety hazard and it is getting worse. i have tinted windows and have always kept my car in the garage but it hasnt eliminated or slowed the issue. *js

The dashboard seems to be melting causing a horrible glare that impacts vision while driving. the car was originally purchased in neland, fl. *tr
The dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is gooey, very shiny and causes a glaring image of the dash to project onto the windshield obstructing the view of the road. if touched, it feels like an adhesive object and has a chemical smell on hot days. this glaring image is continually projected onto the windshield making the car a safety issue to the driver and others on the road.
It appears as if my dashboard is "melting." the finish on the dashboard is disappearing and it had became very sticky and there is a glare on the dash that is hindering visibility. i have researched the problem and it appears to be common on 2008 nissan altimas and my concerns that it will only get worse. i would like to make this problem aware now before it gets worse. *tr

My nissan altima coupe interior dashboard is melting. it is very very shiny, and very sticky all across the areas adjacent to the windshield area. the glare is impossible to see through. in florida that is much of the daylight hours when the sun is the most intense.it is very unsightly as well. this began in october 2013. it has progressively become worse. this car was garage kept a large part of the time i have owned it. there has been nothing applied to the dash. i purchased this car new. *tr
2008 model year nissan altima coupe - recurring problem with dashboard. dashboard material "melts" when exposed to sunlight or radiant heat from being parked in the sun. the dash material feels oily to the touch and becomes malleable; touching it leaves a permanent impression. the main issue, however, is that the dashboard becomes highly reflective and causes glare, drastically reducing visibility. the vehicle is parked under shade as often as possible and a sun shade is used on the front windshield when there's no shade to park under - practices which have kept up since the car was purchased new in november 2007. the problem has been getting worse over time; becoming increasingly shiny each time it is exposed to sunlight. i'm thankful i haven't been in an accident caused by this issue but am certainly concerned by the reduced visibility. many other complaints about this issue can be found on the nissan infiniti car owners online forum: http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-t569582.html*js

I have noticed that over the last several months 4-5 months, that my dashboard of my nissan altima coupe 2008 is beginning to melt. initially, the defect appeared as a glossy, shiny hue to the dashboard along the edges but over time, its has now started to melt with severe glossy and sticky residue - the glare from the dashboard on my windshield is dramatic and becoming unsafe during afternoon driving. it involves all edges of the anterior dashboard along the edge of the speakers and air filter and appears to be moving posteriorly. i have not used any chemicals to try to improve the issue and everything i place on the dashboard sticks severely. *tr
I noticed about 6 months ago, that there was a shiny sticky substance on my dashboard and it has been getting worse as the months go by. it has gotten to a point that it is dangerous for me to drive my car because of the glare that it produces off my windshield. i can't even put something over the dash, cause it will stick and tear the dash board apart, if it moves. this is not only a hazard to myself, but to anyone else in my car and to other drivers. i pointed it out to a representative at nissan dealership months ago and he said he didn't know what was causing it, he couldn't help me. i feel its a defective type material and i'm sure its also not a healthy breathing environment for me. *tr
I saw on the news that there might be a recall on melted dashboards for toyota and nissan vehicles, so i decided to file a claim. the dashboard in my car started to melt a month after i purchased it, which was a year ago. *tr
I pulled in a parking space, foot on the brake, and before i could put it in park the car accelerated and took off. the brakes would not stop the car. i went about twenty feet, over curbs, sidewalk, another parking space, avoiding cars, skid marks made, and finally directed the car toward a dumpster and it stopped. it is a miracle that someone in my path wasn't killed. the engine was pushed back and so the body shop connected with nissan considered it a total loss. *tr
The dashboard is melting and causing a very nasty shine!!!! it's hard to drive when the sun is out. *tr
My dash has started to melt. its ugly but the main issue is driving in the sun. the spots that are melting are very shinny and at times causes me to not be able to see the road. i am concerned for my safety and the safety of others on the road. *js
Dash appears to be melting. car was purchased in tulsa in 2011 while i was living in arkansas...moved to kansas in july 2013 and noticed in august that my dash appears to be melting. car has been most exclusively parked in garage....this slick, wet like appearance causes glare on windshield making it hard to see....i took the car to state line nissan in kansas city, mo last week and they dismissed the issue even though i am still covered by a nissan warranty. *tr

My 2008 nissan altima dashboard is melting and the glare from the molten rubber/plastic creates a reflection on the windshield which makes it very difficult to drive in the sun and is potentially very dangerous. i contacted nissan about this and they say that they cannot do anything about this even though it is obviously a factory defect. they want to charge me 3000 $ to replace the dashboard which i do no intend on doing it as i feel like it is nissan's responsibility to replace the dashboard. *tr
My dashboard is melting, looks like it is wet in certain spots and the glare is very uncontrollable while driving. i did not use any chemicals on the dashboard such as armor all (i say i did not because that is what the dealership said i had done) i have been searching online and there are several posts of this happening to other people. seems like is a manufacturer problem and i can not afford 1200 to change my dashboard. thank you, *tr
The dashboard of our 2008 nissan altima has started melting and cracking. the dash is now so shiny from the melting substance, that there is a severe glare issue when driving on sunny days. it is almost impossible to read road signs because of this glare. this makes for very hazardous driving. there needs to be a recall issued before an accident or death occurs because of the severe glare. *tr
After about 5 years of owning my car (nissan altima coupe 08), i began to notice a sticky substance on my dashboard. after a little while i realized that it was actually melting. the melting spread to cover about 80% of the dashboard. as time passed, the stickiness has caused me to not be able to drive during mid-day hours because of the glare coming off the dashboard and hitting the windshield. even with high end polarized sunglasses, i am scared of driving because there's too many things i can't really see on the road. recently, in addition to the sticky melting dash it has began to crack along the edges. the side and back windows have been tinted since the day i bought the car in 07 and i used to use a sunshield for the front until the melting began becoming too messy to keep using. *tr
The dashboard on my 08 nissan altima is melting. it started about a year ago, but has got alot worse over time. it becomes a safety issue when driving during the day, because it puts off a blinding glare. something needs to be done, the dashboard should not be melting at all!! *tr
My nissan altima 2008 dashboard is melting and has become very shiny. the reflective glare is a hazard during daylight hours and is unsafe. *tr
My dashboard of my car is melting. *tr
I have a 2008 nissan altima coupe here in panama city fl and notice my dashboard was melting, it's now at the point where the glare is so bad i can barely see to drive. i also have a six year old i'm now to afraid to drive any where bc of the glare but also because i'm not sure what kind of toxics we are breathing in. i've ordered a dash cover from carid.com but realized that is not going to fix my problem it's only going to hide it and we may still be breathing in harmful toxins and in the event that later i want to get rid of the car the zebra print dash cover would be stuck. so i took it to the nissan dealer ( i don't have a warranty by the way its a 2008) and the put me in a rental immediately saying and i quote, "do you know what this material is who knows what your breathing in" so they could check my car.... they called me two days later and told me that they do not know what's causing it and for me to call 1 800 nissan1. the nissan headquarters customer relations were extremely rude and refused to help me at all..... i'm a single mother and can't afford to pay to have this fix. i did some research and it turned out that nissan did a recall for a very similar problem in the infinities (melting dash and was bubbling) i'm scared to drive my car because the glare is soooo bad as well as melting plastic i've also reached out to the health dept of florida to ask them about the material of the dash and how harmful it is to breathe in again i have a child and her being healthy and safe is the most important thing to me. there are hundreds of people having this same issue.....this isn't fair not only is this a health issue but a safety issue as well.... *tr
The dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima coupe appears to be melting and it has become very difficult to drive because of the glare it causes on the windshield. we purchased the vehicle new, included a nissan extended warranty, and maintain the vehicle meticulously (mechanically and cosmetically). we did not put anything on the dash (armorall, etc). the nissan dealer told us that they have seen a lot of dashes on the altima with this problem in florida, but that there is nothing they can do because it is out of the initial factory warranty and they claim the nissan extended warranty does not cover it. through the nico club, i have learned that many other florida residents who own 2008-2009 nissan altima coupes are experiencing the same problem. this appears to be a manufacturers defect and has really become a serious safety hazard. i respectfully request your help with this matter. *tr
My dash is melting along the edges which leaves a bad glare and when driving towards the sun, visibility is obscured. *tr
Dashboard is sticky, melting and causing visual glare impending site. *tr
I own a 2008 nissan altima and its dashboard is melting. the manufacturer needs to address this issue because this phenomenon is simply embarrassing for a good company such nissan. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the heat from the sun melted the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire dashboard needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
The dashboard has melted and is now a shiny sticky black surface that cannot be repaired. i did not use any chemicals on the dashboard before this started appearing. also, the dashboard emits gases that fog the window and cannot be fixed by defrost. *tr
Sections of my front dash are melting. the deterioration has left the dash in a tar like state that is sticky and shiny. the reflection from the sun is so bright that driving is difficult around noon. the car is parked in a garage 90% of the time so there is no reason other than poor quality for this to have happened. i have contacted my local nissan dealership and nissan directly and they both are unwilling to offer any assistance as the car is out of warranty. i completely understand that but it is dangerous to drive and i am worried that if the glare prevents me from seeing another car or pedestrian someone could be injured. nissan should accept responsibility for the poor quality and rectify the problem before an accident happens. *tr
The dash has begun melting and the matte finish has become very shiny and cast an extreme glare on the front windshield making it difficult to see in sunny conditions. *tr
Dashboard is melting causing a glare that is a danger in seeing properly. *tr
The dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima coupe began melting and cracking about 1 year ago. now the areas that are continuing to melt have become shiny and when the sun hits it at the right angle (early morning, and sunset) it causes a distracting glare to be cast on the windshield. at certain times it is extremely difficult to see vehicles in front of me without looking off to the side or wearing sunglasses to avoid the glare. safety concerns notwithstanding, i am not enjoying the constant headaches caused by the glare i am subjected to during my daily commute. please repair or replace this issue before someone gets hurt! *tr
My dashboard has been melting for years now. i thought it was just due to the sun and lack of cleaning it, but reading online it is because of the defective material nissan chose to make the dashboard out of. i can barely see the road at times when the sun is shining bright. *tr
My dashboard is entirely melted! you can't even put your finger on it or else it would make a permanent indention. from the dashboard melting it creates a glare that reflects off the windshield making it dangerous to drive. *tr
The dashboard of my 2008 nissan altima has been melting for over a year and a half and is now causing such a large and intense glare on the windshield that it is difficult to see during daytime hours and at night when driving under lights. the dashboard is constantly sticky and comes off in chunks when you touch it. i have searched for information about this issue and found several people with the same problem. some have even reported issues/possible issues with the airbags. it wasn't until today when i searched again, hoping others may have come up with a solution, that i found a thread on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/nissanusa/posts/10152938385130375) discussing actions to take to better this situation. one nissan owner suggested filing a complaint here. some owners have reported quotes from nissan dealerships ranging from $300 to over $2500 when nissan knows of this defect and it is not in any way caused by the car owners. please help us fix this situation. *tr updated 5/4/2016*js
The dashboard is melting, getting shiny and sticky. the sun reflects off the dashboard onto the windshield, obscuring vision. this creates a serious safety hazard. the first time this occurred, my vision was pretty much blinded. had the vehicle in front of me elected to stop or slow down at that time, there would have been an accident. *tr
The dashboard in my altima is melting. *tr
Dashboard is melting and turned sticky. no longer has a matte finish and now has a high gloss finish that produces a glare through the windshield. reflection on windshield looks like a heads up display. the area is from the drivers side to the passenger side and including the passenger side airbag area. unknown if the airbag would deploy properly through the decomposing material used to manufacture the dashboard. internet search of the issue shows many others have experienced this exact issue with the 2008 and early 2009 model coupe. almost all have been reported in hot southern climates of florida, texas and california. no cleaning products were ever used on the dashboard and the decomposition appears to be a result of high temperatures inside the cabin produced when parked outside in direct sunlight. *tr
I've been having an issue with my 2008 nissan altima dashboard melting and causing a glare on the windshield that impairs driving ability. this is completely unsafe on the road, and visibility can often become an issue when temperatures are high. *tr
