We have classified the 106 complaints from 2008 Nissan Altima about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
On saturday morning on the 8th of june 2019, i went to start my car. after i did so both of my airbag lights stayed on. even while driving down the road the lights stay on until the car is turned off. i called the nissan dealership of south strand nissan in myrtle beach, sc on june 10, 2019 and they said there could be multiple reasons for the issues, that i needed to go and have the car looked at. i do not remember the agents naklme, and i do not have the money to have them fix a problem that i honestly believe should never be an issue if th3y and the nhtsa did their job right with quality/safety control.

One day driving on a normal day on the highway, when my air bag light on the dash started to blink repeatedly, it hasnt stopped since. car has a clean title and air bags were never deployed.
Diagnostic scan was ran and supplemental inflatable restraint system came back with 4 codes stating: occupant sensor unit fail x2 crash zone sensor unit fail and comm fail
With an adult in the front passenger seat, the passenger airbag off light occasionally illuminates. if the passenger lifts all their weight off the seat cushion the light goes out.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to town north nissan (9160a research blvd, austin, tx 78758, (512) 451-7411) where the contact was informed that the occupant sensor in the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 171,000.
Takata recall. car airbag censor not working. always keep blinking. gone to coral springs nissan dealer. as per them whole seat cuisine on passenger site need replacement. they have 2 opinion. as per mr. brandon only passenger site airbag will not work. as per shia both of airbag not going to work. it is dangers and cost for that is around $ 2100.00. i keep on changing tyre pressure censor many time. but this is rediculous that such a safety requirements doesn't have warranty. my car has only 66000 mile. my desk board leather is also cracking. means either end up spending more then $ 3500 to keep running because of safety reason. otherwise my car is fine and fit. i heardly use 500 miles a month. can you do something.
Tl* the contact owned a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that while she was attempting to exit a driveway, she became distracted and hit an oak tree at approximately 30 mph. the air bags did not deploy. the contact sustained several bodily and head injuries that required medical attention. the contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. the vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. a police report was filed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,000.
A service light appeared on dashboard failing my state inspection. i didn't know there was an issue until a diagnostic was done. the same issues were reported on my car that are the same as thousands of other nissan altimas 2008 that were recalled. however nissan stated my car was not under recall even though i reported the same issues that are under recall. they refused to help me or give me any options. they said they were not responsible for any costs. the issues reported under diagnostic was occupant sensor ( passenger seat cushion) code b 1018.
I own a 2008 nissan altima. i was driving down a major highway one evening when all of a sudden the car begins to slow down. i press the gas pedal and the car seems to go even slower. it was myself and my youngest daughter. i was scared to death. the speed limit on the highway was 70 mph and my car would not go over 35 mph. i pulled over to a gas station and a nice man looked at the car and could find nothing wrong with it. so get back on the way to go back because i didn't trust the car to make it to my destination. it did the ame thing again. so i drove with my hazard lights on all the way home and parked it. now it drives fine right in the small town i live in but i cant drive it out of town at all, which really defeats the purpose.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator remained illuminated while driving. the contact was concerned that the air bag might deploy. the vehicle was taken to nalley nissan of atlanta (located at 2551 the nalley way, atlanta, ga 30360, (678) 825-6749) where it was diagnosed that the seat sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 211,000.
While vehicle was in motion with a passenger sitting in front passenger seat when the instrument cluster air bag light began flashing and passenger air bag indicator displayed off. vehicle has a fault in the passenger air bag occupant classification system, requiring the passenger front seat cushion assembly to be replaced.
Airbags did not pass inspection, received rejection sticker. airbag sensors are defective. both airbag lights are showing on the dashboard when the driver and passenger are sitting in the vehicle. this should be a recall, please advise. thank you.
My 2008 altima sedan had about 50,000 miles on it when in december 2017 i experienced an air bag warning light that flashed on the instrument cluster along with a warning light on the dash that indicated the passenger air bag was off. these warnings appeared no matter if the passenger seat was empty or if an adult passenger occupied it. this happened anytime the car was running (stopped or moving at any speed). i went online and found out that my vin was not covered by any active recalls. further research showed that nissan vehicles had many problems with passenger air bag warnings related to sensors and occupant classification systems for a broad range of nissan and infiniti vehicles for several model years since 2007. there was one nhtsa recall (#08v-521) related to this issue that covered my model and year, but this applied to only a small group of nissan vehicles manufactured in 2007-2009 that exhibited a specific diagnostic trouble code. my vehicle was manufactured one month after the last month included in this recall, but the passenger seat air bag sensor was manufactured during the last month of production included in the recall. the problems with the passenger air bag warnings go beyond the original recall. this is a significant safety issue that i believe warrants expansion of the above recall or a new recall. i don't believe nissan is living up to its safety responsibilities. i have completed significant research into this issue (see attachment) that should convince nhtsa of the need for further investigation into this defect. i have invested a significant amount of time in researching this issue and creating the attached report. i would appreciate a response from nhtsa stating if they intend to pursue nissan to issue additional recalls, or not.
Passenger air bag light on even thought someone in seat
Takata recall, got in a car accident and the air bags didn't deploy. my car was a total loss. were there any airbags in the car??????
My passanger airbag is not working when somebody is sitting in the seat it is still off when driving, their was an open recall on this but when i call nissan its not my model
I have a altima coupe that has an intermittent fault with the passenger side bag airbag sensor. i drive down the road and it comes in and out randomly even with a passenger in the car. the car is at a nissan dealership shop to be inspected and determine cause.
The airbag sensor on the passenger seat stopped working about a year ago. i had to get my car inspected last month to drive in the state of va and to access the naval base for work. i failed the inspection because of it and had to pay $705 for a new seat. i saw a recall for this problem but was told by nissan recall department my car wasn't covered. how can that be possible? i am requesting a full refund from nissan as the issue was a safety recall issued in 2008. i appreciate your assistance in helping me accomplish it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. while driving various speeds or while the vehicle was parked, the tire pressure and air bag warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the cause of the air bag warning indicator issue; however, it was determined that the tires needed air. the tires were inflated to the manufacturer's recommendation, but the tire pressure indicator was still illuminated. the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a nissan dealer for proper diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 119,000.
Dash pad, which also covers the passenger air bag is now cracked, and is sticky. i know that nissan settled with florida residents for this problem, however, other cars are affected. in southeast texas, we have just as much, if not more heat that seems to be causing failure of the dash cover. we are now afraid to drive the car, as since it is cracked and sticky, we do not know if we will be properly protected with the air bag should we have a problem. this is a serious safety issue, not just cosmetic, and all cars should be included, not just florida. please review this issue, and get all of us covered.

Since purchasing the vehicle in 2014, the dashboard has been continuously melting and cracking to the point where the glare from the black melted dashboard has severely decreased visibility. additinally, as more cracks have appeared the car no longer recognizes when a passenger is in the passenger seat and shows the airbag as 'off.'
Melting and sticky dash board & air bag light is on
My dash board is melting from the heat and cracking all around. my passenger air bag light keep coming on along with tire sensor. had sensor replace several time and have same issue.
Dashboard is melting and cracking to the point where i can see the foam material that the dash is made out of make seeing out the windshield very difficult, especially when coming out of a tunnel during the day and not being able to see momentarily making driving very difficult. bought a dash cover to hopefully slow down the process and so i could see out the windshield clearly. also the passenger air bag light does lights up intermittently when no one is in the passenger seat. bought the car, 2008 altima coupe, in north florida and has been driven in florida, georgia and hawaii, where i currently live, year round. i have had the car for almost 4 years and have less than 75000 miles.
The occupant classification system is designed to classify the size and weight of the front seat passenger and, under certain conditions, automatically turn off the passenger air bag. the software is incorrectly classifying the passenger seat as empty when it is occupied by an adult. it happens when in motion and stationary. it happens on a street and also on the highway. it is intermittent when it happens and it cannot be duplicated upon request but it does happen consistently. i have submitted other requests in the past but was told my vehicle was not affected by the other recalls at that time. (july 2011). i also own a 2013 nissan altima and just received a nhtsa recall 16v-244 recall notice for the same thing.

A passenger sitting causes the airbag light to flash and turns off the airbag? if the seat is equipped with the same ocs control unit, my vehicle should have been included. i am experiencing the same problem as the recall in november 2008 that did not include my vin? nissan concluded i should pay the dealer to check it out. *tr
When an adult is setting in the passenger seat the air bag indicator light will periodically go on. this has been an ongoing issue for years. st. charles nissan tech found occupant sensor failure to be causing the issue. there is a recall involving this issue, nhtsa campaign id number 08v521000. my car's vin is not part of the open recall, however, since it is the same problem in the same year vehicle, i wondered if the recall should be expanded. i have not been informed at what vin they stopped in the recall.
Passenger air bag: light stays on when person in the seat. nissan voluntary recall:pb090/p8242-dealer will check each vehicle falling between 07-08 altima; fault in seat cushion, dealer instructed to replace each vehicle falling within that range. nissan refuses to replace or check problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the air bag and tire pressure warning lights were constantly illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 109,271.
Have a 2008 nissan altima that the air bag light on the passenger side stays on whether there is an occupant in the passenger seat or not. this could result in the passenger air bag not functioning properly in a crash. problem is due to faulty sensor system. this has been an on going problem for nissan that has resulted in previous recalls and several customer complaints. nissan now has a recall of 3.53 million vehicles model years 2013-2017 regarding this very same issue. nhtsa please investigate that this recall should expand further to vehicles prior to 2013. in 2008 this problem was detected and recalled. the us national highway traffic safety administration upgraded an investigation into this air bag deployment issue after reviewing complaints whether prior nissan recalls adequatley addressed the problem. there are several complaints on this very website regarding this same air bag issues/sensor system problem with earlier model year nissan vehicles. i do not understand how nissan can only recall 2013-2017 model years when earlier models vehicles are having the exact same issues. nissan is turning their backs on safety.
I have taken my altima to a nissan dealership on a few occasions and everytime i go they say my car is not on the recall list. atm i have no airbags and i do a lot of driving which is very dangerous.

Was informed by our nissan dealership that this vehicle has inoperable airbags due to a failure of the front crash zone sensor. of course, this is just an assumption on their part. this vehicle has never been in an accident or experience any impact of any nature to cause this sensor to malfunction. nissan dealership ran a diagnostics test, but still no clear indication as to there being inoperable airbags. was given two options, starting with one option of replacing the sensor in its entirety at an estimated cost of $525, and if that didn't work, running another diag. test at an additional estimated cost of $592. in an attempt for some assistance, a consumer complaint was filed with nissan north america only to be denied assistance on the cost of this repair. their decision was based solely on the age of the vehicle and it not being under a warranty. paying a $1,000 for a "guess" is extremely steep and unreasonable and a cost to which i cannot afford. due to their faulty transmissions, at 45,000 miles, the transmission on this vehicle had to be completely replaced, to which nissan picked up the tab for due to faulty transmissions of their cvt transmissions. being purchased as a brand new vehicle only to have a transmission being completely replaced at 45,000 miles sheds new light on the poor quality of nissan vehicles. at this time, nissan is refusing to assist.
