Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2006 Nissan Altima

I took my car to get inspected and was told by my mechanic that both the drivers side and passenger side floor boards are rusting out. because i know some people that can do the repair work for me i'm looking at about 1200.00 for the repair. now that i've seen what some other people are being quoted i guess that price is fair. i already have exhaust coming through my floor and am concerned for my health at this point. other then this issue my car is in perfect condition. my concern is if i don't fix this, my car in not safe.....so i do not want to drive it and i could not sell it to anyone in good consciousness because i would knowingly be putting someone else in harms way. nissan needs to take care of this huge engineering flaw and safety hazard. *tr

My floor boards are rusting out.

The floor panels have completely rusted through and will require replacement. apparently this is a known issue with this year and model of altimas

2006 nissan altima - car has been kept in very good condition - exterior is in flawless condition with no rust visible. do not be fooled - the floor boards under the drivers side and passengers side are extremely rusted out. took in car to nissan dealership for service to replace water pump and was informed about rotted out floor boards. despite multiple services at same location this was the first time this was mentioned to me. conveniently after my 7 year / 100,000 warranty has expired. something does not seem right - the outside of the car is in exceptional shape yet the underbody is completely corroded? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima 2.5. the contact stated that there was a fist-sized hole in the floorboard under the driver's side throttle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was not available.

I am writing a complaint about rusted floor pans that seems to be a common problem amongst a lot of other "06" nissan altima owners. i found out about this issue after i recently had my oil changed and an employee at the body shop pointed out how bad my floor pans looked. there are literally huge holes in the flooring and if the carpet were ripped out, i would be able to see through them. in addition, i was told that the rust causes mold to form and it's dangerous to breathe that air in. i think nissan should take responsibility and do a re-call since this seems to be happening to every owner who owns this vehicle. *tr

The front floor pans have rustted away and part of the floor is missing due to rusting. nissan is very aware of the problem and offered to install a floor fix at a cost of $700.

The floorboards of the driver side have rusted through. this is a common complaint posted about numerous times online, with no response from nissan. it seems that altimas from atleast 2003-2006 were effected. no recall has been placed that i have found, although many, many complaints and discussions about manufacturing defect. *tr

Rusted floorboards after warranty expired. *tr

Driver and passenger front floor boards are rotted. car is in excellent condition and has had all required maintenance completed since purchased new. nissan north america consumer affairs refused to repair stating the car is out of warranty. failure is due to manufacturing defect, improper rust protection of sheet metal, and water drainage issues. *tr

Upon taking the car to the dealer for an oil change, the dealer informed me that the floorboards under the driver and front passenger seats are eaten away by rust and each side will cost $1000 to repair by welding a plate to it. it is so severe that the car will not pass inspection and be rejected for safety reasons, according to the dealer...*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that excessive rust was building up on the frame of the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the dealer stated that the under body experienced too much moisture and as a result, the entire under body needed to be replaced. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the rust issue and was advised that because the vehicle was out of warranty there was nothing they could do to assist. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 73,700.

Took my car for its yearly state inspection and it was rejected due to the fact that the floor had rusted through and now needs to go to a body shop to have the drivers floor replaced. *tr

The front floor on the driver's side is cracked and rusted through which is unsafe. *tr

My 2006 altima has been meticulously maintained, serviced and driven with no issues until recently while repairing a leaking radiator hose, i noticed that both the front passenger and drivers floor had a rusted thru hole in the same location, right where the feet would rest. no other part of the floor pan or undercarriage has any rust. i brought car to a body shop and as told this is a common problem with altimas in this year range. from what i have found in my research, nissan is not addressing this issue . *tr

So after my husband replaced a faulty brake caliper on the left rear of my altima he proceeded to rotate the tires. it was then he discovered my driver side floor pan completely rusted out. we had been noticing a "wet car" smell on occasion, but i would never have imagined this. i am so disgusted. to beat it all, nissan won't rectify this?? that's bull@$#t. i had a 1995 altima that i drove for over a decade with over 200000 miles on it before i traded it in. the reliability of it was what prompted me to purchase another. though my husband can replace the damaged area, the point is he shouldn't have to. i promise you this, it is the last nissan anything i'll ever buy. i guess that's what i get for not buying american engineered/made/conceived (karma bit me in the butt). i'll go back to ford for sure. *tr

Inspection on august 5, 2013 revealed rusted holes in 2006 nissan altima driver and passenger side floor boards. this is extremely unacceptable for a 7 year old vehicle. i have been a nissan brand family since 1989 and have taken extra maintenance measures to get my vehicles past 200,000. after researching the web, many forums show nissan is refusing to address this major common problem. i will consider repairing my vehicle and trading in to another manufacturer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that the passenger's side floor board was corroded. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

The vehicle has been very well maintained and i noticed today that the floorboards on both sides in the front are rusted right through. by searching the internet, i see that this seems to be a recurring issue for other consumers. *tr

Found that the passenger side floorboard is rusting out on my wife's 2006 nissan altima. there was a musty smell buildup in her car. on inspection, found that the passenger side carpeting was damp. the floorboard had 2 large spots were it was starting to rust away. we have always kept the car washed and cleaned throughout our ownership of this vehicle. we are the original and sole owners of this vehicles. *tr

Premature undercarriage rusting & rot under passenger & driver side of vehicle. very common problem for 2002-2006 nissan altima's. contacted nissan of america, was told it cannot be fixed because it is out of warranty. however, this is a problem that has affected many vehicles regardless of location. i cannot imagine this car being safe in a collision, seeing as the undercarriage is rotted out. *tr

This is about the 15th newer altima that has no floorboard in it and i dont see how the cars will fare well in a crash. i decided to complain because of she sheer volume of people saying their cars are affected the same way. you have to do something about this ! *tr

On june 28 2013 took my car to get it inspect and they would not pass the inspection due to there was a rusty hole underneath the floor mat outside the car. a hole right on the driver side they told me they see a lot of older model nissan with this problem and i would have to get it fix to pass inspection. i call nissan consumer and told them about it they said there was nothing they could do about it and told me to go to nissan body shop but i would have to pay for it. i brought this car new 2007 with 12 miles and don't understand why this would happen also for many years i have a water leak where they can't seem to find and i have take to the nissan dealer ship for at least 2 three years and now there white mold in the car they wont do anything about that. *tr

Took my nissan altima to the dealership for some work. the service dept. called to tell me there was an issue with the floorboards. and the car would pass inspection. i called nissan and they said there is nothing they can do. i bought the car three years ago as a certified nissan with a 100000 mile warranty. the car had about 35000 miles on it when i bought it. *tr

Just wanted to add my complaint about my 2006 nissan altima which had severe rust under both sides of car under the seats. at the time it was noticed the car had 55823 miles and was serviced at the same dealership for the previous 4 years and just 3 months prior being noticed. although i had to pay said dealership to repair after fighting with nissan and dealership for 3 months. just wanted to add my complaint after seeing article on tv news. although car was 7 yrs. old it should not have rusted with 55000 miles on it. nissan motors would not pay cost for repair.($740.00). i know nissan is big corp. but either they or dealership should be held accountable. big business wins again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed, the technician notified him that the floor boards were completely corroded. as a result, the floorboards needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

My fiance put my 2006 nissan altima on a lift as a routine inspection and oil change only to find out that the driver's side and passenger side floor boards have rusted through. as well as my oil pan, flex connector between catalytic converter and muffler. my car is regularly maintained and this is unacceptable for a car that is only 7 years old. i then researched to see if this is an issue with other nissan owners and it appears that it is. i have also had my car not start if it is moved a couple of feet and then turned off. i have brought it to my local nissan dealer only to be told there was nothing wrong with my car. *tr

The car was at the dealership for a scheduled service. i was asked to go into the garage to look at the floor boards while the car was on the lift. the drivers side is so bad you can see the carpet. the passenger side is bad enough that they told me the car would not pass inspection without having both sides repaired by a body shop. i took the car to a body shop today and they were shocked at the excellent condition of the car vs the rotten floor boards. i've been doing plenty of internet searches today and found that this is a common problem. *tr

My nissan altima's driver and passenger side floor panels are rusted. the rust is starting from the inside to the outside of the vehicle leading to holes in the floor panels. i went to nissan dealersip and they told me that they are very well aware of this problem with altima. it is due to a design error in the floor panel which has build it holes from factory which lets the moisture and water inside the floor panels leading to rusting.

Upon a routine oil change my mechanic noticed the huge amount of rust under my driver and passenger floorboards. the carpet inside can be seen. upon researching this problem i found numerous complaints with this same problem where nissan is doing nothing about it. this is a low mileage well maintained vehicle. im shocked at the amount of rust in these areas. normal wear and tear would not cause this. nissan should be recalling these cars. *tr

Discovered rust under the driver's side, sheet metal is rusted out. will need replaced. unacceptable for a garage kept and well maintained vehicle that is only 7 years old! *tr

Floor boards rusted through under driver and from passenger seats (foot rest area) because of poor metal coating and poor drainage design. rest of the car is perfectly fine. car has very low mileage and no accidents. having hole by the floor rest area is a safety hazard. when rust started car was still under warranty but dealer refused to check, now floor panels must be completely replaced. reading other similar complains all over the web and personally knowing 3 other altima owners with exact same issue, i am very surprised that no action take so far. *tr

The floor pan on my 2006 nissan altima 2.5 sl is rusting and corroded underneath the passenger seat and could present a safety issue. i contacted my local nissan dealership and they were unable to assist me because the car is out of factory warranty. i find it hard to believe that a car 6+ years old would be rusting that bad especially given that the car has been kept in my garage and well maintained. i have searched on the internet and found numerous 2002-2006 nissan altima owners that have the same issue. i believe this is a defect and nissan should issue a recall and repair these vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. while the vehicle was being inspected, it was discovered that the front driver and passenger side floorboards were severely corroded. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

I took my car in for routine maintenance and my mechanic noticed the floor board on the passenger side was rotted. the rotting is approximately 12' x 6' the front seat will eventually fall out of the car if it's not repaired soon and/or mold will start developing soon posing a serious health issue. upon research of this issue, i found this is a common defect on altima's from 2002-2006. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that there were holes caused by extreme corrosion throughout the front driver's side floorboard. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the floorboard would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000. *tr updated 07/10/13*lj

The floor pans of the driver and passenger fronts have been rusting on my nissan altima for years. i can not remember when i first noticed it but it would be about 5 years ago easily. also the exterior paint on my car has prematurely degraded to the point where i almost have no clear coat left on my car. the main issue is the rust. i have never had a car rust in a flat part under neath a car where water should not be able to sit. i will be attaching pictures that show the extent of the issue. i have also come across numerous chat pages that have the exact same thing happening to their cars as well. this is an obvious safety hazard that can not possibly be meeting the minimum safety standards. i do live in a cold weather state now but the rusting happened while i was still living in south carolina. the fixes for this issue are expensive and should not be the responsibility of the consumer to fix when it is a common issue for 2002-2006 altima series. not only do these rust spots allow for debris to possible come into the cabin from the underside of the vehicle but also allow for exhaust to fill the cabin. kobe steel is a know supplier for nissan and i would like to know if they supplied the floor panels for these year of altima's since they have admitted to using material that is not up to standards. i would like to have the floorboards fixed without having to pay or something to make this situation right. my car currently with the rust and paint issues is un-sellable and has lost 100% of its value. thank you for reviewing this complaint. again the exact start time for the rust or the paint is unknown but it started around 5 years ago.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated there was excessive rust underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the floorboard needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Floorboard rust on passenger/driver floor. rust due to improper undercoating and faulty drainage from drain holes. rust under car only these areas. rest of under carriage is spotless. debris on road could come through floor. *tr

Driver side floor board rotted away due to rust. there are numerous complaints discussed on various websites that contain similar problems experienced with the 2006 nissan altima. nissan has not recalled this vehicle. *tr

Rust floor, holes.

My car is experiencing rust under the driver's side floor board. a quick internet search reveals that this is a known issue for nissan altimas, however nissan refuses to cover the car since it is outside the 5-year warranty. my car even has the undercoat protection, but has a hole in the floor board roughly the size of a softball. this should not occur on a car that is only 6 years old. i am the original owner of this vehicle. many, many nissan altima owners are finding rust holes under their floor boards. this is clearly a manufacturer defect. *tr

Took for inspection. service dealer said driver side floor board rusted into interior. car has been serviced at dealership following all safety maintenance checkups, even last month. no one mentioned any form of rust at the time. dealer said there have been quite a few similar problems from 2002-2006, but they did not think it was important to check this out on last safety maintenance visit. i'm upset nissan is not covering this obvious defect and only after 5 years plus car had undercoating applied from factory. next car ??????? *tr

Rusted through floorboards both driver and passenger side. *tr

The driver's side floor board has rusted through, which is very unusual for a vehicle of this age. according to various data online, the metal was not properly treated to prevent rust before installation. we are requesting that nissan repair the rust at no charge to us. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima se. the contact stated that a hole was found on the front passenger side of the vehicle undercarriage. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 71,000.

My nissan had extensive rust damage to the left and right front floor pans. it was taken to a nissan dealer. nissan will not repair because car is over 80,000 miles. this damage did not happen in the last 4,000 miles. filed a claim with nissan, again they will not repair. i was told to send a letter to nissan north america consumer affairs. i was told by a body shop that it looks like the car was not sealed properly right from the manufacturer and water entered through the floor pan seams and the plug under the car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that the floor boards on both sides of the vehicle were completely corroded. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle had surpassed the warranty mileage and the contact was the second owner. the vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics who stated a patch and repair with welding of a new floor board would be required. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 142,000.

Front passenger floorboard rusted through, with a hole approximately 4"x8" in size. i bought the car when it was a year old and it has been meticulously maintained and still looks new inside and out. it is undercoated, and has no other corresponding corrosion. the rust is not coming from underneath, nor from a leak in the interior (the carpets are dry), but from between the two sheet metal parts that make up the floor. as a mechanic, i know there is no form of maintenance that could have prevented this rust from occurring. as a safety issue, my state will fail this car for inspection because exhaust fumes can enter the interior of the car without the occupants knowledge, and the floor could continue rusting, compromising the integrity of the front passenger seat mountings. *js

The floorboards on my 2006 nissan altima are rusted out. i've been informed by my body shop that this is a well known problem due to a design flaw in the car. apparently the floorboards rust from the inside out. i called nissan and they told me to buy a new car and offered employee pricing. they took no credit for the problem. the issue is very well know - see http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/rust-n333291. *tr
