While driving my 2005 nissan altima, it appears to have shifting issues that are known to nissan. nissan needs to step up to the plate and stand by their product. hard shift from 1st to 2nd at initial start up. also have shifting issues from 3rd to 4th. the shifting from 3/4 is when vehicle is at operating temps. there is a very hard shift and delay in shift. i have called several dealers, and all claim not to have any recalls or bulletins, or deny hearing of any shifting issues. very poor customer service. going into 4th from 3rd, vehicle seems to have a delay and stalls, unit revs, and finally kicks into gear. *tr
Vehicle died while coasting down the side street. once i stopped the vehicle i put it in park and turned the key to off. when trying to restart the vehicle, the engine would crack, but would not start. this problem has been listed for a recall for the 2.5 engine but not for my 3.5 engine, and nissan will not do anything to help the situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the temperature gauge illuminated and the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred once. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnosis. the technician stated that the crankshaft position sensor had overheated and the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to another mechanic who stated that the sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. the vin was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). the approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
On august 18, 2014, after dropping my son off at school. i came to stop at a traffic light and when the light changed, i started to take off and noticed the car has shut down. i eventually made it home with the car going a very low speed and then speed up, but when car to a start the engine stalls. the vehicle was put on a computer to see what the diagnosis were and it was the camshaft sensors and crankshaft sensor costing $80 dollars for two and $70 for another, however these items has been changed along with a tune up and the car is doing the same. after doing some research on the computer, i noticed there were recalls on the crankshaft sensors and the ecm. i contacted nissan dealer, an appointment was made and i was told that my vin number is not showing so the problem had to been done, because i'm the second owner. it's funny how this problem comes about after 4 1/2 years of having this vehicle and the recall suppose to have been taking care of with the first owner. this is an inconvenience and it's frustrating. there is also rusting of the floor under the car, you can see the floor coming down from under the car on the passenger side. this is an outrage and something needs to be done at the cost of the dealers and not the owners. this is dangerous, you can be driving at a speed and the car just stop, which can cause a very bad accident. *tr
Engine shut down while driving home and making a left turn in rush hour traffic. "service engine soon" light came on. we are only fortunate not to have been hit by oncoming vehicles! long beach hooman nissan said there was no code when the diagnostic test was performed and although the same thing happened to the technician the next day when they test drove my car, they've washed their hands from it. service rep said we can contact nissan north america. we called and got a call center in the philippines. nissan was supposed to call me on an expedited basis but i have not received a call after leaving 3 messages for tel. 615-725-7569. i am without a drivable safe car and stuck in a phone messaging black hole! what am i to do after only 58,000 miles? do i have to be in an accident and injured before nissan will pay attention? in addition, the dealer replaced my transmission at the tune of $4000 in july 2013 because of a similar engine stall issue when the service engine soon light came on. this car is still unsafe and not drivable and we wasted $4000 for a transmission unnecessarily, since the same issue is recurring. this car has original manufacturer defects. various dealers concluded different diagnoses at different times but no dealer has been able to fix it permanently. nissan north america not only put out an unsafe vehicle, but also deceived me as a loyal customer all these years paying the dealers for bogus repairs. please help me. *tr
Vehicle engine stops. nissan will only fix part of the cause. expects clients to fix the actual sensor. wouldn't recommend another nissan. *tr

The car started hesitating while driving and the head gasket was blown due to the pre cat system clogging up this is a very high cost repair for this vehicle and all these vehicles should be repaired at nissan cost due to the amount of vehicles this has happened to and there being class action law suites over it. this is their fault not mine why should i be responsible for this cost when it has happened to numerous 05 altima. they should man up and fix this issue. i have owned 3 other nissan vehicles with no problems besides maintenance, but this is the last nissan i will ever own, i was going to get an infinity but since nissan makes those i will not be purchasing one of those either and will research before i purchase any vehicle to make sure nissan doesn't have anything to do with the vehicle name. i'm done with nissan and would not recommend anyone to purchase one they do not stand behind their name anymore. also the vehicle has always been services at a nissan dealership. *tr
My wife was driving the car at 25 mph and the car lost all speed as if the brakes were implied and almost caused a three car pile up. now the car is stuck in 5th gear. i am really worried because my 2 year old daughter was in the car at the time. i have done research online and this is a major problem. *tr
I was waiting at a traffic light to turn green and when i started going and my car made a loud noise so i thought somebody hit me. i got out of the car,but no hit to my car. i thought that was weird because i didn't know what happened. it didn't happened again until a few months later. most of the time when i start driving i hear a boom sound and i feel that my engine is going to break down. it feels like my gears are not connecting from first to second or if the transmission is not connecting with my engine. if i start driving and then i speed up, my car makes the boom noise. the same happens when i'm coming down the road at a regular speed and i slow down because traffic is slowing, but then we continue at the regular speed my car makes the boom noise like the gears didn't connect. my car is an automatic. i took my car to my mechanic and he told me to check with nissan for any recalls because my car gave him a motor code p0726 which has to due with the motor's crankshaft. he told me that my engine and transmission are not connecting. i search to see if anybody else had that problem and it has been people complaining about the same problem, but no recall has been issue for this problem. hopefully there's a recall soon to prevent any accidents due to this problem. *tr

Transmission control module; vehicle suddenly has an unexpected loss of power on highway and will not change gears. camshaft sensors; sudden loss of power traveling at high rate of speed, unexpected stalling or engine to shut down and not restart. both very dangerous because you almost get run over by the vehicle behind you. they come up on you too fast, continuing their normal highway speeds not realizing your vehicles loss of power until theyre right up on you then have to either slam on their brakes or make sudden lane change without properly signaling warning other drivers. timing chain guide and timing chain tensioners; wear out prematurely causing loosening of the timing chain, makes a very loud clanking or ticking sound asbit hits the guide and can cause damage to the engine. struts mounts; corrode and wear out creating a rough and unstable steering control and clanking sound as the struts hit when driving over uneven roadways, cracks, driveways and speed bumps. makes it more difficult to steer cause the vibration and rattling in the front end. this occurs in the 3.5 liter engine. there has already been service bulletins and recalls on the 2.5 liter engine but not 3.5. the issues are the same for both engines. the same parts/manufacturers are used on both yet the 3.5 liter wasnt included. problems are ongoing daily. its very unsafe.
During other service work mechanic found the engine cradle is rotting away. *tr
The transmission is stuck in 5th gear, even if you try to downshift it manually it wouldn't come out of 5th gear. *tr
My 2005 nissan altima uses about 3 quarts of oil between oil changes. i see no leaks so it is losing oil in the engine somewhere. there are thousands of complaints about this very problem, why is there nothing done about this?
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft sensor had failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was approximately 109,000.
Hi, i am the owner of a 2005 nissan altima. i have owned this car since 2008. i reviewed service records from 2005 prior to my purchase. there has been an extremely large amount of issues with this vehicle. the most recent of which is the "grey" area of the ecm issue in coordination with famous the camshaft crankshaft fault p0355 & p0131. i'm an engineer and fully understand the mechanics of a vehicle. this sensor was a faulty design from the beginning in which oil could enter inside the sensor, therefore causing a short and disabling the entire vehicle while in motion. this actually happened to me and was a terrifying experience. to fix the issue cheaply, nissan issued a recall to reprogram the ecm in order to recognize the ?faulty? crankshaft sensor part. but in order to save millions of dollars, nissan would not include the warrantied replacement of the faulty crankshaft sensor design (magnet sensor). instead, the consumer (myself) would have to pay between $300 & $450 to have the sensor replaced with the ?new & improved version?. new and improved means the properly designed version. the initial design should have been recalled but it wasn't. it doesn't take an engineer to figure this out but i am one and fully understand the ?big picture? of the recall and lack of inclusion of the crankshaft sensor repairs. i am requesting nissan to cover the full cost of the camshaft & crankshaft sensor & the associated labor. i was put in harm?s way during the initial recall issue in which my car shut off while on the highway. that is a bad enough experience. i am not willing to also pay nissan $400 to repair the faulty sensor which was a large part of why this occurred in the first place. *tr
I recently experienced my vehicle stalling as i was driving. it took several minutes for me to restart leaving me venerable to a vehicle crash. the same evening i learned of recall# 07v527000. the following day i brought my vehicle to a nissan dealership to have the recall resolved. they advised the recall only covers reprogramming computer not replacing defective crank sensor. i feel that reprogramming computer will not resolve safety issue as the sensor is defective and could fail even with reprogramming computer. i was charged 96.00 dollars to have problem diagnosed. dealer refused to replace defective part. to my understanding many other altima owners experience this same problem and are forced to pay for defective parts that fail.dealer did not offer to reprogram computer they insisted that only replacing the defective part would resolve my issue which was not covered by recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact also stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle and smoke emitted from the exhaust pipe. the vehicle restarted however, the vehicle would not restart the day after the initial failure. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where it was diagnosed that there was antifreeze on the spark plugs, which indicated that the cylinders under the timing belt were cracked as a result, the head gasket needed to be replaced. the mechanic also stated that the catalytic converter failed and that the debris from the catalytic converter was drawn up into the engine causing damage to the cylinders in the motor, which caused the vehicle to have a blown head gasket. the catalytic converter was replaced, however the motor was not replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.....updated 04/08/15 *bf

When restarting my car when driving for a while. i restart my car and it hesitate to crank over the engine shakes like it misfiring. engine service light turns on and engine crawls to a halt and turns off. i took it to meineke they said it was a bad cam sensor cost me 130 to replace and engine worked fine for 4 months. same problem again took it's to nissan of manhattan they said the computer needed to be reprogrammed. worked for about 4 more months now looks like i'm going to need the crank sensor replaced again. there a recall on my model car but not my vin number. *tr

Got the "service engine soon" light on 07/31/2013 and the nissan altima 2005 suddenly stopped while waiting in the red signal. the local mechanic told the code p0335 was being returned which meant crankshaft position sensor has failed. since there was a campaign for the same model and problem, i contacted the nissan customer care and they said this vin was not part of the campaign. going to check with the local dealer to reprogram the ecm. *tr

I was driving a 2005 nissan altima (se-r v6 with only 66,000 miles on it) at approximately 35-40 mph when all of a sudden the engine shut down without warning in the middle of the road with my wife and our 2 year old daughter in the back seat. i tried to start the engine right away. it's now hard to start unlike before and it sounds like starting a car with a weak battery on it but i know my battery is still good that's why i suspected something went wrong with the engine. finally after 3 seconds the engine started but the "service engine soon" light turned on. when i hit the gas pedal, the car didn't accelerate as it did before this incident happened. the following day i brought my car to the dealership where i bought it. after running some diagnostics, they found out that the camshaft position sensors and crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. i ask if there was any recall issue regarding this problem and they said none. the calculated total cost was $631.00. after further negotiation the price went down to $550.00. while waiting for the service to be finished i browsed the net and found out that there were also the same problems encountered by other nissan altima owners. i asked the dealership again if there's really no recall for this despite of many consumer complaints and they even printed me a result that there have been no campaign for this issue. i went home wondering why there is no "recall" made to fix this serious safety issue. what if i was driving in a highway at 70 mph and the engine suddenly shut down? *tr
The car stalled out... almost got hit.... had the throttle body replaced..looked online and saw there was a recall for this year model and part...got in touch with nissan and they said there was no recall on this particular vin..from what i read all nissan altima's were recalled for this part..i also did not receive notice. can someone check this vin ast safercar.gov and let me know ...thank you...ps this car has very low mileage and is well maintained. *tr
I have a 2005 altima se-r 3.5 v6 i was leaving a mcdonald's parking lot and as soon as i put the car in reverse there was a hard jerk and the transmission did not engage properly. the car reversed after a couple seconds and when i put it in drive a hard jerk and the car was in 5th gear. no other gears were available. i parked the car and shut if off...after a few seconds i started it back up and threw it in reverse and got the same result, i put it in drive then tiptronic and saw a 5 (5th gear). i called a couple friends and mechanics they said it a fail safe. so i waited again and tried to restart the car and it took a good 10-15 seconds to crank and after i reversed the car would die. i was only trying to get home (1 mike down the road) because i did not trust this car to bring me anywhere at this point. after a couple start then shut downs and letting the car sit for a few i was able to get the car running and driving in all the gears. i got on the boulevard and i was going about 20-30 and the car dies on me. luckily it was the middle of the night and the was no traffic. i restart the car and its running in 5th gear for about 10-15 seconds and then i see my rpms going up as speed going down. the transmission was not engaging and i knew something was definitely wrong at this point. i pull to the side and pop the hood, the was so much heat but the car was not overheating. i call my mechanic and he says let it sit a bit. 20 minutes later, car cooled down a bit and a reliable friend and mechanic come help me push the car into a parking lot. we later find out the transmission failed. fluid was still red, not burned but something else was going on inside. $2000+ later and a replacement tranny the car is up but still dying at random times, won't start. diagnosis crank and camshaft sensors. the transmission also goes straight to 5th gear and car stalls in traffic. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle recurrently failed to start. the vehicle was taken to a private repair mechanic, who determined that failure was caused by the crankshaft position sensor. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), however the vin was not included. the failure and current mileage was 74,000.
Nhtsa campaign number: 07v527000 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor with regard to above recall details, when i provided the vin to nissan dealership, they don't see any recalls for it. but it is quite dangerous to drive with this mechanical problem in the car. appreciate if appropriate safety care is taken by manufacturer. *tr
The first time car stopped running while driving 35 mph. the second time it stopped running while turning and the steer got real stiff. thank god there was no accident but it was real scary!!! *tr
The vehicle would overheat causes the radiator to leak, while driving vehicle would stall for few minutes, vehicle would hard turn the starter and the engine light check would flash off and on while driving. nissan dealership tends to try erase the code but has not fix the crankshaft position of the vehicle in june 2012. *js
I have a 2005 nissan altima that i bought in 2008 and has had nothing but problems, first had to replace the steering knuckle because the steering was going out ($400) than had to replace the motor mounts, struts, inner/outer tie rods, i have no heat when at idle, while putting new tires on again, i also learned my floor boards are almost rusted through, and now i can not even drive my car because about 3 weeks ago it started sucking down oil ( 4 qts within a 3-6 hour time frame) and it's smoking bad out the tail pipe because of the head gasket/piston rings caused by a faulty pre-cat, and told i need to replace the engine. i see there is a recall for the 2.5l engine for this issue but on a 2006 model, what about my 2005 model with same engine?? searching the internet i find hundreds if not thousands of people having this same issues in 2002-2006 altima's, obviously there is a problem with these engines and nissan should be held accountable!! *tr
At 80k miles, the 3.5l infinity/350z motor that has been *very* well taken care of had a known issue occur which caused the valve to come loose in the engine. there is a problem where some screws which hold a butterfly valve together wiggle loose and is ingested into the engine. this causes the valve to get damaged and fall out resulting in total engine failure. nissan knows this occurs and is unwilling to help me with the repair. when this occurred to me, i was in a very bad situation and nearly lost control of the car, i was lucky enough to gain control again however there was some damage to the car when i nearly went into the ditch. i have a police report as well. so nissan knows their top of the line engines can with no warning fail which at any speed can be a potential serious accident. the fix is simple to prevent it, secure those screws with some glue or lock tight, but if they admit this is a design flaw, then they'd be responsible for the damaged engines and they seem to prefer to deny it. i just spent a week trying to get them to take some responsibility and they wont. this is beyond a warranty issue in my opinion if it can cause the driver to loose power and loose control of the car. it happens quickly and the impact on control is immediate. not safe at any speed. so this complaint is one of safety and one of having to cover a total engine failure no matter how well you take car of your engine. *tr

This recall number, #03v084 describes my situation precisely. my vehicle currently has 97,000 miles on the odometer and i have been experiencing (over the last course of a year) severe oil consumption. soon after i changed my oil in may of 2013, i began to notice unusual engine noise. i took my vehicle to a mechanic and he discovered that my motor was only running on a quart and a half of oil. the mechanic replenished my oil to its normal level and since then, the motor consumes oil at an abnormally rapid rate. according to the nhtsa??s recall #03v084, the catalytic converter disintegrates and the particles of the converter are drawn back into the motor, which causes scaring on the cylinder walls. this problem is the only logical explanation for my vehicle's rapid oil consumption. it??s my intention to approach nissan of north america about this issue. i would greatly appreciate your support. *tr

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and engine shut off, was barely able to get to the side of the freeway before the car came to a complete stop. it was the most scary experience i have ever had in my life. the ses light came on only after loosing all control. i was told at the shop that this is a common issue with some altimas and that they had a recall. *tr
After 20 min or so of idling in traffic, then a 10 minute freeway drive at legal speeds i was approaching the off ramp and the clutch went to the floor, no hydraulic pressure. i was able to move out of the way of traffic without incident and pull over. after 10 min of talking to my insurance company for a tow, i noticed partial pressure restored and drove slowly home. now, with research, i have seen this is extremely common and dangerous. too many complaints have been filed online and with nissan, yet there is no resolution and what's worse, no specific answer to the problem. i hope nhtsa doesn't wait for a serious injury or death to occur before this is looked into, a google search of altima clutch recall brings up over a dozen forums with numerous complaints of the same problem. *tr
Rattling noise in engine, unusual engine vibration and muffler sound coming from engine. this can be dangerous this screw is located in the engine and could cause $7500 dollars of damage. if this screw was to come loose it could ruin engine compressor, destroy the exhaust manifold, o2 sensor and power valve plates. i search to see if there was a recall on this and it seem to be or talk of it. call dealership to see if a recall was issued. some website suggest there was one, what has happen to quality products. if there was one they are not upholding it. recall should never expire, for public safety. *tr..updated 10/24/12 *bf the consumer would like to retract her complaint. the vehicle has since been repaired. updated 10/25/12
