2007 mini cooper s, hatchback. the passenger airbag (off) light, indicating the passenger airbag is disarmed, is on at all times regardless of passenger. additionally, the dashboard warning lights for my airbag system and seatbelt are illuminated at all times. the codes identified by the mini dealership in honolulu indicate the passenger seat occupancy sensor has a fault. looking under the seat, it could be a faulty wiring harness or faulty connecter as they appear vulnerable to seat movement forward or backwards. the mini dealership also stated the obnoxiously expensive part was on national back-order.

Air bag light turned on. performed a fault survey and found there is 1 related fault code in the mrs control unit. passenger seat occupancy sensor, not currently present, occurred 12 times. need to replace the seat occupancy sensor and re program the mrs control unit. total replacement cost: $1,164.47 called mini headquarters and was told there was no warranty or recall for my specific car. however, they told me that the 2005, 2006 mini cooper had a recall for the seat sensor. this is a major problem and should be recalled for the 2007 model as well.
Was driving car downtown at a speed on average of 15 mph. trip only lasted 15 minutes when i parked and noticed smoke coming from my hood. smoke quickly escalated into a fire. called 911 to have fire trucks out. grabbed a fire extinguisher from a nearby business to try to put out the flames, but was unable to even while spraying directly at the flames. firemen had to pry open the hood to get to the engine to put out the fire. car engine was totaled. *tr
While driving in my neighborhood i noticed a burning smell and a little smoke coming from under the hood. i pulled into my garage and popped the hood to find the oil feed line to the turbo had leaked oil all over the turbo and was burning off. i know the problem is a faulty line that uses rubber washers and over time heat from the turbo causes them to fail. in 2010 mini put in a heat shield to protect the line, acknowledging the problem. this needs to be addressed properly, to many pre 2010 cooper s are having this problem. *tr
I have had previous issues with the panoramic sunroof, i had to get it replaced. then i had issues with the chain and chain tensioner and had to get that replaced too. now the steering has failed on me, i can't start the car or even move the steering wheel. my steering is locked now; i had the car running, everything seemed to run fine and the steering worked fine. once i shut the car off i couldn't start the car back up and my steering locked up. i had to get my car towed home. i wish bmw would do some kind of a recall on this car so we wouldn't have to pay so much money out of our own pockets! *tr
As i shut the engine off i noticed smoke coming from under the hood. opened the hood to find a fire to the front of the engine coming from electrical wires. was able to put out the fire with out too much damage and disconnected the battery to eliminate power to the troubled area.car is being towed to mini cooper of peabody massachusetts. *tr

My mint condition 2007 mini cooper s was destroyed by fire on 3/31/11. i had just driven it 4.5 miles to work, parked it, when approximately 12-15 minutes later i was alerted by the company security department that my car was on fire. the township police and fire department were already on the scene putting out the blaze. the cause of the fire appears to be electrical and started in the engine. my pristine car without a scratch or dent on it, had only been driven 15,000 miles -- and it was destroyed. the car had been faithfully maintained and i believed it to be in perfect running condition. fortunately no one was hurt and no other cars were damaged. but what if this would have happened when the car was parked in my garage? i was shocked to read online that other owners have shared similar experiences and that you can find numerous video clips on you-tube showing minis on fire. what is bmw doing about this? updated 08/17/11*bf updated 02/02/2012 *ln *tr
