Steering wheel makes a clicking/knocking noise when turning to the left or right.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. the contact stated that the steering emitted a clicking sound when turned to the left or right with an abnormal vibration. the vehicle was taken to (deland kia located at 2322 south woodland boulevard, deland, florida, 32720, (866) 809-7175, to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the failure was due to a failure in the steering coupler. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 35,162.
Steering is shaking and requiring need to turn wheel more than usual to turn when driving. making noise when driving.
Steering wheel makes clicking sound when steering and also while vehicle is not.in motion. after much research, i believe it is the steering coupler which is very dangerous to drive due to the chance of steering wheel locking up while driving. i should not have to pay for this since many other people online are reporting the same exact problem. i have not received a recall notice, but i am scared of driving my car if it is not fixed right away. this is a hazardous problem and it needs to be addressed.
Started with a clunk sound, then all of a sudden the vehicle would not steer. i was in a mass of traffic so my speed at the time was slow and i was able to drift onto the side of the road luckily. dealership tells me the vin is not in the recall, but i see this same problem recalled half a million times. they will not fix the issue, which comes at a tune of $1600.
The vehicle present a grinding noise while steering on any direction. while getting it checked at the local kia dealership they diagnosed the issue on the steering which was apparently part of a recall from kia, a few days later the issue on the steering was present again and the local kia dealership is now charging me around 1,900 dollars for the repair even though it all started trough a manufacturer recall..
The steering wheel coupler has become loose, creating a sound and steering play (or slack) when steering. this could result in breakage of the coupler, resulting is loss of control of the vehicle. kia has already recalled the 2014-16 soul models in recall number: 17v608000, but did not include the 2013 year model, which has a dangerous defect.
Clunking noise from steering wheel when i go on a bumpy road or turn steering wheel from side to side. while in motion or stationary.
Steering wheel makes a clicking sound when i turn the wheel
There is a clunking noise while driving or turning. too much "play" in steering wheel. it feels like it will come apart. happens know matter how fast i go. even when back up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the steering knuckles when the steering wheel was turned. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,851. *bf *tr
Oli light does not come on when my oil is low. my 2013 kia soul burns oil quickly had my oil changed 2 weeks ago checked yesterday the dip stick was almost dry at not time did my oil light come on. my steering wheel makes noise when i move left or right it makes a clicking noise, steering wheel feels likes it locks at time when driving on the high way
Rack and pinion sound
At around 60,000 miles, began to notice clunking noise and slight wobble with steering column. at first it was minimal, but has gotten progressively worse and now hear new squeaking/grinding noises when turning at lower speeds or when stopped. recently researched and saw that many other people have been experiencing this same issue with this model (the 2010-2013 builds), with a video regarding this issue on youtube having more than 40,000 views as of writing this (https://youtu.be/j3u0khplz8c). the same steering coupler parts that were deemed defective for other recalled models from kia/hyundai appear to be the same ones used in the 2013 kia soul (and others that have not been recalled). https://www.carcomplaints.com/kia/soul/2013/steering/clunk_noise_in_steering.shtml
Steering makes a clunking noise. apparently the flex couplet which was recalled on the 2014 through 2016 soul has worn out prematurely. it's known problem. manufacturer should cover the cost.
Recently while driving my steering was feeling slightly hung or not steering a little when i turned the wheel. now the car seems like it has some play in the steering wheel and makes a clunking when i turn the steering wheel from one side to the other. i figure it is something with an electronic power steering under the steering wheel after looking it up on the internet. i am not quite sure if it is safe to drive. i was concerned when turning curves at 65 mph and it was feeling hung up & not quite right. this is an ongoing problem at this point.
Arrythmical clicking/grinding sound from steering column at slower speeds and while stopped when steering wheel turned left or right. seems to be a common problem with the kia soul yet only 2014 through 2015 models were affected by a recall?
Steering wheel makes a lot of noise when driving took it to a certified mechanic shop they told me it was a defect with kia
While driving or stationary, i noticed a clicking sound in my steering wheel when moving it from side to side. i googled this and saw multiple complaints about this issue; however the recalls were not for the 2013 kia soul's. i called kia customer service @ 1-800-333-4542 and they said that i would have to take it to the dealer have it diagnosed @ $143.00 but cannot guarantee they would pay for the repair. i called the kia dealership in delray beach, fl and was told that the kia optima was recalled for this issue, but they have been getting more and more kia souls coming in with this same problem. the cost for repair would be $400.00 +. i should not be held responsible for this since kia is aware this part is of poor design and fails prematurely. kia should be recalling all models since this is a safety concern and all models have the same defective mdps coupler in the steering column. i feel that anyone driving a kia is at risk.
Have started noticing a clicking sound from the steering column when i turn, this happens while stationary or in motion, this could become a major safety issue. i have read on line that kia is aware and covers 2014 and 2015 but not 2013 year this seems totally unfair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. when the steering wheel was turned in either direction, a clicking noise was present and the steering wheel felt loose. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 26,675. the vin was unknown.
Clicking noise heard when steering wheel turned. progressed to clunking in wheel while turning and shaking on rough road surfaces at any speed. front end alignment and balance determined to be correct and tires not abnormally worn. problem diagnosed by dealership to be worn and failing coupler in steering column. *tr
The vehicle makes the noise stationary and in motion is loud feels like the steering wheel is coming apart i seen videos of the problem on youtube there are many and how to fix it kia has not recall the year 2013 model plz what can we do.
For cable cooler ( steering) brakes causing a clunking noise and makes steering sloppy.danger rating 7.6 should be recalled!
When you turn on the car the steering wheel has this click click to each side and as you're driving down the road and you move the steering wheel a click sound is heard when moving steering wheel to the right and the left. the steering wheel makes this sound while you're sitting in the driveway in the carson park where the year actually driving down the road anytime you turn the wheel just a little right to the left it sounds like and feels like the steering wheel connection is going to break i'm not a car person but it's like when the steering column goes down and it will connect to shea a u joint and you turn the turn it one way or the other and do you join us not connecting properly that's the way i can describe it. i have no documents just a sound. this happens every time you turn the wheel right or left not a lot just a little bit it would be like in the play in a steering wheel but there should be no clicks
There is a clunking noise in the steering and play when the car engine is running. this happens while the car is stationary and moving. appears to be the power steering motor damper that has affected many hyundai and kia models. vehicle currently has 58,000 miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. while driving approximately 40-45 mph, there was a clicking noise coming from the steering area. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired; however, an appointment was made with an independent mechanic. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized without warning and could not be turned in either direction. deland kia (2322 s woodland blvd, deland, fl 32720, (386) 734-7800) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v332000 (steering), 17v608000 (steering), and 15v736000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000. the vin was unknown.
Mpds coupler teeth broken off other years and models covered under recall but not 2013. same part same application dealer wants charge $400+ to fix this manufactured defect with another plastic gear that will break in a few years of age. clicking sound when you start to turn the steering wheel afraid when all teeth in gear break going to have no control over steering dealer has tsp on this but its a safety issue
Over the past several months, steering has developed a clicking sound and some play when the steering wheel is moved back and forth at rest and moving, and steering vibration that suddenly happens when doing 70 mph. '2007-2014$5 coupling p/n 563152k000fff used on 200 models of kia and hyundai 'may 22, 2014kiatsb-cha044optimas, souls, fortes 2010-2014 identifies defective coupling; repair cost $250-$500 'august 16, 2016kiatsb-cha072optimas adjusts man hours; offers free replacement and extended warranty under its customer satisfaction / warranty extension program (cs1604) stating 'kia's analysis has identified that this condition occurs in extremely high humidity states adjacent to warm ocean waters due to wear of the flexible coupling.' then goes on to identify 9 states including florida, where warranty replacement is authorized. 'for vehicles sold or register in all other states, kia is extending the warranty on the flexible coupling to 10 years/unlimited miles.' While driving the steering wheel makes a clicking noise. my mechanic said while driving this part could break off causing a serious situation and may precipitate an accident. this situation is current and has been in effect for a couple months
A flexible coupling in the steering system was broken and had to be replaced. i was told that the kia optimas were having the same problem my daugthers kia has the same problem, she owns a 2013 kia as well the charge is $366.00 for a rubber coupling. had a very bad noise when turning and were concern as far as loosing the steering system while driving.
Steering coupling broken......makes clunking sound while turning or driving straight.... 2014 thru 2016 models made between july 2013 and september 2015 have been recalled for same problem.....my car was manufactured 6 months to early to have it recalled......something smells fishy.....with all of the complaints i am seeing this problem started earlier than someone wants to admit......my car was purchased at boniface hiers in melbourne, fl and they won't fix it under warranty....the car has 25,000 miles on it.......pathetic
Steering coupler failed at 49000 miles
The steering wheel is super loose and the car will veer right on its own. we took it in for an alignment ($80) and they said they have to go into steering column and diagnose and fix. they said most the parts were cheap, however the job is timely and tedious, therefore the anticipate it costing approximately $500 plus the $80 alignment....so almost $600! all of this right at christmas time, and even worse, only two months after hurricane charlie demolished our home in panama city beach, fl and surrounding areas. the mechanic told us we were lucky the steering hasn't stopped working completely and warned us to not drive it because it would stopped working at some point and we could be in major accident.
My car has 55k miles on it. i purchased it october 2013. the steering coupling just went bad and now i have to pay $500 for the repair. this complaint seems to be prevalent with this vehicle. it should be a recall. also, the passenger side window will not go back up with driver's side control. the dealer is telling me that that is also out of warranty and that it will $350 for the repair. i'm confused... how can none of this be covered under warranty? plus, i'm still waiting for kia miles per gallon settlement from 4 years ago. if this is they way they operate, i'll never buy another one.
In the last couple of days, while making turns either left or right or while parked if you move the steering wheel left or right you feel a definite clunking in the steering. prior to this new development the steering has always been smooth. my vehicle has only approximately 40,000 mile on it. i see there are many others with this same problem. i see a recall for the 2014-16, why not the 13?
I was driving on a straight city road at 35 mph and my car weaved 3 times within .2 mile. my hands were steady and not moving on steering wheel. it swerved all by itself. . . zig zag style. then it stopped weaving and drove straight again.
Steering wheel clicks or knocks when moving or stationary when turning the wheel to left or right. at speeds of 75+ mph the steering wheel clicks and shakes on its own without any turning input. seems like a similar issue to other kia recalls associated with the steering coupler.
Takata recall, my kia soul 2013 make a clunk noise when wheel is turn right and left and also steering wheel is unstable when driving at 30mph, i've seen a lot of complaints about the same issue but only models 2014 - 2016 where recall by kia motors, can you please look into this so they can add more years from this kia soul vehicle, thanks
At around 69k miles i had a new set of tires put on the car. when i got it back about a few days later i noticed when i was stopped a clicking noise that i could feel in the wheel. it seems to track straight down the road but has some slack in the wheel itself. took the car back to pep boys and they said it was a know kia issue to call the deal. so today 9/7/18 called orlando kia today they said there is no recalls steering related but they would love to have a look. i bet. doing some research its all over the internet and utube that the steering damper rubber star shaped damper disintegrates and that is what makes the slop in the wheel. the part number i am seeing is 56315-2k000fff and is less than 5" at the dealer. observing different costs online depending on make and model from 225$ to 1800$ to replace. this is a dangerous situation and should have been recalled and fixed no questions asked.
The steering wheel of our 2013 soul is making a clunking sound. the vehicle only has 31,000 miles on it and from what i've read it seems to be the rack and pinion. i'm worried that i will lose steering while driving and the dealership i bought it from will not fix it even though all the optima's and kia souls 2014-17 have been recalled. i've seen youtube videos highlighting this defect going back to 2011 so kia was obviously aware of the issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. while driving low speeds and while the vehicle was stationary, an abnormal noise was detected coming from the steering wheel when it was turned left or right. the vehicle was taken to sunset kia of sarasota (7777 s tamiami trail, sarasota, fl 34231, (941) 308-7707) where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 41,000. **tr *js *js *js
I have a kia soul 2013 i noticed a clucking noise in the stearing collum when it is stationary postion also the collum seems to have alot of play in it . i notice if i hit a bump in road it ratals . i have made an appointment with dealer next week. i have been reading all about these issuse from si many people . i cant beleive that kia has not done something abiut this . i drive my. 94 year old mother around in this car . i am going to contact a layer or a news station about this . this is a very dangerous issue that needs to be addressed properly. . i will see what lokey kia saids about this and see where it takes me . i only have about 37000 miles on car bought it in 2015 dec. it had 21000 then .
Steering wheel play is increasing and clicks on each side of the play. suspension feels as if the car drift/slides whenever driving over divider lane lines or direction arrows placed on the street.
About two months ago i had a slight jerk in steering wheel and it just got worse, i heard clunking noise, steering was loose and jerky, unstable driving. took it too kia and they did a performed a express service multi-point inspection and confirmed noise and stated it needed a new a flexible coupling and a new eps motor and alignment. only flexible coupling was replaced through extended warranty, no alignment or eps motor was done. i have looked through websites of complaints and kia soul 2013 has been reported but no action has been taken. if i wouldn't have had an extended warranty i wouldn't have gotten the coupling replaced, but more is required such as eps motor and an alignment which was purchased already in april of 2018. this needs to be researched and fixed asap as a recall as it it a danger for anyone to be driving a kia soul with this issue
The steering wheel is clicking and it is getting progressively worse. 2 opinions cite the rack and pinion steering. it is acting just like the description of the 2014-2016 recalled kia souls.
For the past 6 months i have been to the car dealer for headlights and other lights out on the car as welll and the steering column is making clicking noises.
I suddenly started hearing a knocking sound coming from my steering column. i noticed it when i would make u-turns and when parking into a parking lane. after a day or two, the knocking began to be more frequent. i can be driving down the highway or stationary and the knocking will occur with a slight turn of the steering wheel also causing by wheel to be very loose. i dropped my vehicle off at the local kia dealership service department and they recommended the steering coupler be replaced. i declined services at that time and took my vehicle to another kia dealership. all i did was pull into the service department lane and spoke to a service department employee explaining what issues i am having with my steering and he immediately said " i don't even have to look at your car i know what the problem is; it is the steering coupler, we see this all the time but kia will not recall the soul model for this issue." i then went home and researched kia vehicles to find the optima vehicles had the same issue and were recalled. i then called the customer service 1-800 -333-4542 and submitted a complaint stating i do not feel safe driving and asked why this issue has not been recalled on souls as i see many complaints online about this issue and other kia models have been recalled for the same problem. my information was taken and i am expecting a call within the next couple of days from the department parts and service manager as the warranty expired after 60,000 miles and i currently 66,815 miles. i believe kia should be held responsible for this issue since they are aware of this ongoing problem with their product!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia soul. the contact stated that the steering column made an abnormal sound and the steering wheel was completely loose and unstable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (boniface hiers kia, 880 s apollo blvd, melbourne, fl 32901, (321) 951-9595) where the failure was acknowledged; however, they stated that there was no recall on the 2013 model. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 46,000.
