Ever since we took our kia for the recall service and they "fixed it" turns out the made it worse and now the engine makes a loud rattling sound, the breaks which are new have horrible performance and the electrical issues we are having with the odometer and the transmission sensors due to the recall as well but the local kia dealership that "fixed it" will not take a look at what they brok without us having to pay them for it we have had no accidents and it gets maintenance done on time.
There is a constant burning wire/electrical smell that gets worse after it's shut off.
I took the car to the kia dealership and they tell me the engine has an oil leak. i believe their kias sportage 2011 & 2012 were also recalled for the same issue. the car has less than 100,000 miles on it and i have owned several cars before and never had an oil leak on the engine at all. they said the repairs were going to cost over $1000 to repair. i believe this car should also be recalled due that they have a history of other models having the same problem. thank you.
While sitting in our 2014 kia sorento lx awd, 2.4l 4cyclider gdi; the car was idling in our driveway when he noticed flames coming from under the hood of the car. he was bearly able to get out of the car before it was totally engulfed in flames and consequently burned till there was nothing left but the frame.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. the contact stated that the engine stalled while making a left turn. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle jerked and then operated normally. the vehicle was driven to the contact's home. the vehicle was taken to kia country of savannah (1 park of commerce blvd, savannah, ga 31405, (912) 629-4906) for an unknown recall repair concerning the engine not cycling the oil through properly. the vehicle stalled again and lost power while attempting a turn again. the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to a dealer. the failure mileage was 92,000.
I have a 2014 kia sorento sxl 3.3 ltr v6 with 119, 952 miles on it. on 11/26/2018 after pulling in the drive way and existing the car i smelled what i believed to be an antifreeze smell.my car did not have any warning indicators on and my temperture gauge was normal. i took my car to dobbs on 11/27/2018, paid $30.95 and told it was leaking head gaskets which cost $4500-$5000 to repair. i decided to call kia consumer affairs and had my car towed to a kia dealership for diagnostics and they decided i needed a motor, the cost would be $7600. i then called consumer affairs back and was told by the agent she would submit a request for a goodwill repair. kia agreed to replace my motor as the technician diagnosed, but i am responsible for labor at $140/hour for 21.4 hours. i really appreciate kia replacing the motor, obviously due to some type of defect.wondering if there will soon be a recall on it. i've had 2 steering columns installed, alternator, lower oil pan and still a popping noise. i was told on the 4th time of complaining to dealer services, they tighten an axle nut. well the nut must be loose again because the popping is back. could this be a problem with the axle which has been recalled on other models?should my motor also have been a part of the motors most recently recalled. could my strut have started leaking due to an adequate amount of corrosion substance not being applied ? i replacind my struts, rotors, breaks and 4 new tires. i love my car, this is my second kia.i am greatful, but a little disappointed about paying $3000. my 2 month old daughter passed away in her sleep on march 15. 2017 and left me with the stress of losing her, funeral cost and now this. i am a single mother; therefore money is tight. cars similar to mine have caught on fire due to faulty motors and that is really a scary thought.
Driving at approx 70 mph on the highway the engine began making a faint knocking sound which very quickly turned into a more rapid hectic knocking sound. as i was exiting the freeway the sound continued to intensify and the engine knocking then became extremely loud almost completely disabling the vehicle on the highway. this happened very quickly leaving me very little time to react to the problem. this was due to a connecting rod bearing failure.
The end of october 2018 my 2014 kia sorento motor blew up. we heard the knocking on a weekend, kia said to bring it in and it stalled halfway there. had to call my insurance because kia would not pay for towing. my kia had been checked the year before for the engine recall, of course it passed. it took 2 months to get my car back, they did provide a rental. a month later (jan. 2019) i smelled gasoline very strong in my car. had my husband test drive it to make sure that is what it was because i had just put in a full tank of gas. sure enough i called warner kia of parkersburg again, once again refused towing even though i already knew about the issue with the fuel lines from the engine replacement. i had to call kia consumer affairs to get this car towed to warner kia. turns out they forgot to replace a bracket during the engine replacement, not very smart in my opinion for so called certified mechanics. i got it back again feb. 2019. now it is march 2019, my transmission appears to be slipping, hesitating to pick up speed. i almost got hit by a semi trying to get onto the interstate because car would not go fast enough. my uncle tried to see if he could check my transmission fluid and of course it is encased, but while doing this he noticed the engine coolant was very low. the level is below l. my engine was just replaced not too long ago and it was in the shop again for more work just last month. i am beyond frustrated. i have made concerns with kia consumer affairs and have not gotten anywhere. i will owe on this car for another 2 years and it looks like it won't last. also upside down on loan. now i am scared that my car will catch on fire or cause an accident with my children in my car all because kia can not make better vehicles or at least try to reimburse their customers to keep them happy. i want a new car, and i want kia to pay for it and others vehicles.
My vehicle was manufactured in the georgia plant but was not part of the 2 previous recalls, even though it was manufactured that the same time, because it has the lambda 3.3l v6 engine. after all the troubles i have had with the vehicle, locks dont unlock, engine is failing, and now there is a problem with the valves. a valve can be heard tapping in my cars engine, it sounds and feels (vibrations can be felt by hand) that it is almost certainly in bank 2 (towards front of car) almost directly below/behind the high pressure fuel pump. now hypothetically if i were on the highway and the valve dropped, consequently punching a whole in the cylinder head, forcing oil through the whole, and igniting it, i would think that it wouldnt take more than a few moments for the flames to catch the high pressure fuel pump and very shortly after engulfing the entire engine and vehicle in flames. i am also sure their are likely many other scenarios that are possible, but with all the engine problems my vehicle has been having while still under 80k miles. this one seems pretty terrifying to me, especially with 3 young children in the back with doors that dont unlock! and of course kia is too busy trying to twist the situation and blame consumers to even c oi nsider doing the right thing and standing behind their own products. i have hardly driven my vehicle at all since the engine started failing in june, and i believe it has always had this noise (dealership had insisted it was the gdi normal noise when i purchased the vehicle)to last week o happened to nj price the nk oise getting louder and asked a mechanic what is could be. that mechanic stated it definately sounded like a valve.
Recall : it isn't on recall list but having the same problems the other recalls for same vehicle and year. was driving and engine stalled on the loop, i was almost hit by multiple cars. i finally got the kia to start and it began to make loud tapping noise and not letting rpms reach 3k. nobody seems to want to help since the car only has 87k miles and now the engine is failing for no reason. i believe if the engine is doing the same thing as the other recalls, why haven't there been a recall on this kia.?? i've tried calling dealers and etc nobody is helping me.
Hello i bought this car last year ago i have an issue with the motor , you need to fill 2 liters on a week i need to know what's going on regard is not normal 2 by 4 liter equal 8 in a month is too much please give me more dental about it thank you so much
Engine recall my vehicle is in the dealership for the engine recall i also had to have the steering wheel replaced 2 times due to wiring or button malfunctions. along with the usb port on the stereo. the issue happened again after the warranty coverage ended for that part and they refuse to fix it again after warranty even though it has been a known issue. the usb port comes loose constantly and will not work- they want me to buy a whole new radio to correct this. the volume button on the steering wheel has had issues in the past and now no longer works... again they want me to get a new steering wheel to correct this...
Driving down the highway my car died out of nowhere. it would not start again afterwards. all power shuts off and i am able to coast to a stop. this has happened a few times but becoming more frequent but still random.
Mileage 116,145. i was traveling on the highway coming down a steep grade going straight. in the fast lane i was going 75mph and then rapidily excelerated to 82mph ( the rpms jumped to the 6/7 range). the engine complete stopped. the check engine light, oil light, power steering and battery light all came on. i lost all power steering and rapidly began to slow down. went from 80 to 50 in a matter of 10 seconds. i was almost crushed by a semi truck as i desperately tried to move the car to the shoulder lane. the car was barley able to coast and it was a struggle to maneuver the vehicle off the highway. i put the car in park and sat waiting for a tow truck for 30 minutes - i took a photo of the warning lights that remained on. towing company checked all fluids , gas, alternator, battery, belts and all were in working condition. there was no indication why this happened. the vehicle started back up and all warning lights went off.
Turn the vehicle off so i could pull in my driveway as i unlocked my gate car would not start back it was stuck in the middle of the road i had purchased a new battery and i have also bought a new starter
Tl* the contact owned a 2014 kia sorento. the contact stated that when the engine was turned off, smoke was seen coming from under the hood of the vehicle. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle then burst into flames. the fire department was called and extinguished the fire. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow lot. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000. *tt the consumer stated the vehicle was declared a total loss. the cause of the fire was unknown. *js
I was driving my 2014 kia sorento down a city street when my car completely shut off . luckily i was only going about 30 mph. it lost all power and wont restart. it showed and currently shows a red steering wheel light (i've never seen before) and a dim battery display( which battery isn't even 4 months old and all features worked long as car was in aux mode) and also check engine light is on. it was putting off a bad odor afterwards, didn't smell of oil or any other fluids sorento doesn't have any blown fuses nor did it have any service type lights on at time it shut off. it seemed to be driving fine until it shut off. no loud noise or shaking or anything have to take to dealer tomorrow had it checked for codes and isn't showing any having it towed to the dealership is my only choice
Vehicle displays no warning lights. vehicle suddenly cut off in the middle of a busy road at an intersection, and upon trying to re-crank, it makes a loud knocking and clanking noise. could only semi-operate car in neutral. car will only cut on for about 5-10 seconds at a time. there was an open recall on this year and model vehicle, for this very same issue, but according to my vin, my vehicle does not qualify for the recall although others do. it sounds like the rods are knocking to a highly extreme level.
I was driving my car home and just as i pulled up on my street i and began to smell smoke and the smell of burning plastic, just as i was pulling up to my house and about to pull into my driveway, a tow truck driver driving the opposite direction stopped his truck, jumped out and started yelling for me to get out of the car because my engine was on fire. at this time i turned the car off, grabbed my things and jumped out of the car. flames were coming out the bottom of the engine and smoke was coming from the crease in the hood covering the engine. after a few minutes the tow truck driver opened the hood and the engine was still on fire. he grabbed a fire extinguisher that he had in his truck and put out the fire.
My 2014 kia sorrento is not being re-called after 403 kia sorrento's engine caught on fire. i understand that the ntsa thinks you should just carry a fire extinguister but that is not the answer. i am not sure that i trust even a recall at this point. as kia and the ntsa argue about whose to blame more cars are being effected. no person life has been taken. is someone just waiting for someone to be killed to take notice. you should be shameful. would you let someone you loved drive a kia sorrento knowing that 403 cars have had engine fires? i travel with kids, i travel distances, i travel at night. i am now scared to drive my car for fear of what could happen. it is causing stress in my life. i want something done about this, now my documentation is the evening news with lester holt on july 18, 2018. there was a segment on regarding this issue. no re-call has been issued because no one has decided whose fault it is; a pretty poor excuse. i have called kia headquarters in irvine, ca and asked to speak with the ceo (xxxx) and an waiting for a response. please do not force me to more public drastic measures. My spouse was driving her kia sorento home from work when the vehicle would not pick up speed. the lane changed from 2 lanes to 1 lane so she had to merge over doing 70mph. with the lack of being able to accelerate, she had to brake to avoid an accident. when she did merge, the check engine light came on and the vehicle just shut off. she then was able to pull off the road. she turned the car off and tried to restart it and was unsuccessful. she then called our insurance companies roadside service. the tow truck driver tried to see if he was able to get it stated but could not. the vehicle was then towed to the kia dealer in killeen, texas. the service advisor called us back and informed us that the entire engine had to be replaced. my wife could have been seriously injured or even killed. there was apparently a recall on these vehicles that we were not notified by either mail or a phone call. this is completely un-acceptable.
(xxxx) against ka motors 07/06/18 case # (xxxx) (waiting 15 weeks) refund due me towing and keeping my car 5 to 6 weeks $456.06. motor recall early 2018 took in kia shawnee mission, ks no problem, no recall, about 30 days b4 vacation. on 07/13/18 motor blew up on highway in middle of night about 4 hours form my home with 2 minor grandchildren, scared to death maneuvered to side of highway with no power, i am 70 years old and disabled, very freighting. took kia about 5 to 6 weeks to replace engine. i had to refile this claim 2 separate occassion7/13 & 9/13 due kia consumer affairs fault. sup albert said would refund $456.96 for the tow fee and cutting, kia consumer affairs not retuning calls for over 2 weeks, vacation short and troubles getting back home.10/23 tomas sup. said because of delays on sending check out, check would be sent by 2nd day or next day air. this did not happen, broken promised again! when i went back to get my car 4 hours away i had to pay a friend to go with me to drive my car, so i could drive the rental car back to branson, mo. i feel i am due additional compensation due to extra expensive to go back the 4 hours and 30 min to drive back to get me car, paying my friend. highway between springfield mo and branson mo highway going up the mountian/hill. under manufacture warranty and plus extened warratnty parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
We bought our car in october 2016. during our transition from new york to georgia our engine failed on us. my husband and i took it to a kia autobody shop in greenville south carolina. they fixed it free of charge due to a recall on our specific year, make and model of our car. we then proceeded as usual taking care of it getting the standard oil change and check ups. there were no signs or warnings for what would happen four months after. on july 10, 2018 at 2:45 pm my husband was driving on the expressway i20 e heading home. the car started shaking my husband pulled over. there was black smoke coming out of the car. he turned the car off and stepped out a few seconds after our car exploded on him. counting our blessings that he, nor i and our three kids were not in the car. we reported to kia that same day. we are currently waiting to hear back from some one.

Takata recall i purchase my 2014 kia sorento from a used dealer with 85,052 miles on it. in july i started hearing some loud popping noise so, i contacted my vehicle service contract and was advise that it needed to go to a shop, upon going to the shop it was diagnosis and i was told it had a sec147 engine recall dues to this issue back in september of 2017 this same vehicle had an sec147 engine recall also along with rear wheel speed sensor inside the hubs.
Last week while on the highway going about 65mph my check engine light came on(stayed on) and my vehicle started knocking. i went home parked it for the night and called the dealership the next morning. the dealership said as long as the check engine light was solid (not flashing) it was safe to drive the 30 min to bring it to them. they called today to state the engine is blown due to metal shavings in the engine and oil. i am lucky the car even made it there, since the engine has "blown" since they have had it!!!! i have kept up having oil changed regularly, and i do have receipts. they are saying my i need a whole new engine and it is not covered and my warranty is expired even though i received a letter in the past stating the warranty was extended to 120,000 miles!! they say they have no record of the letter, so it must be fake!!. i dont know what i'm going to do i used all of my savings to buy this car for $22,000 just three years ago!!!!! it currently only has 79k miles on it!!
On 7/5/2014 9:00 a.m. i place the key in the ignition, turned the key but the car would not turn over to start. i have been experiencing acceleration issue also.
Engine started knocking lost power and locking up almost got rear ended on the hwy had to pull over before it complete locked the engine up
Sc147. why wasn't all the 2014 kia sorentos included in this recall. my vehicle stalled out on me today doing the same thing that this recall was for. reported it to kia and they won't do anything. my vehicle was going 55 when it lost acceleration and no power steering and the lights flashing on the dashboard with all of the warning lights on. coasted into a parking lot, thank god no other traffic was around.
My kia sorrento v6 motor is going out it's been parked sence may of 2018. the lower rod bears are going out. contacted kia and recall is only on 4 cylinders and stated that no other complaints on v6. it's just unreal that 174,000 miles and egine going out for same thing that the recall was for. we drove to the store and i head a noice that's when i went home and check it out had it looked at by couple mechanics and told me to park it it was rod bearings sent video to kia dealer and they confirmed what i was already told motor shot. cost too much for me to replace motor so it's just sitting there paying on a car i cant do anything with. the cost for replacement is 7500 to 8500 that's not in my budget.
While driving the vehicle at roughly 40 mph on a straight road, engine suddenly shut off. within seconds, there was loss of power steering as well. car would not turn over, and all the indicator lights in the dash showed up. took the car to kia, who admitted there was a recall on the vehicle. the engine had to be replaced. the kia paperwork noted it was replaced due to 'sc147'.
My 2014 kia sorrento ex started leaking massive amounts of oil at 99,000 miles. the undercarriage and the back of my car are covered in oil from the leak that started while driving. have taken it to the dealership where i purchased it last year. it is the oil pressure sending unit. it will be a $300 repair. when i asked if this was a normal issue with vehicles, he said it was not. i went to look for a recall on this item and found forum's where others had complained about a similar issue at lower mileage but no recall.
2014 sorento engine was replaced 9/2017@ shawnee mission kia per recall sc147. before replacement, there were no catalytic converter issues. after since 3/2018, it had four (4) catalytic converter failures in ten (10) months & 4 replacements @4 different shops latest 2/2019.all shops said they failed due to extreme overheating which could also cause a fire. 3rd shop also noted 'excessive blow-by', said it's not normal for a new engine with 20,000 miles on it -- which my replacement engine should be if it was correctly replaced with a new properly functioning engine in 9/2017 (car had @140k. then) all 4 happened while driving, twice on highway, twice on city streets. 1st time, out of town, on highway. all very dangerous sudden loss power/speed and stalling. scary. very stressed, not knowing when & where may happen next, with strong possibility of accident, fire, or both. tried to talk to dealership about failures being caused by the engine replacement, but without even checking car, they said impossible. research shows otherwise: (nhtsa ,center for auto safety, a lawsuit case: 1:18-cv-02716 filed: 04/16/18 in the united states district court for the northern district of illinois (not mine), kia tech service bulletins... now there's a new 2/2019 recall for my car for high pressure fuel pipe, due to replacement engine work not done properly. & soul's just recalled for catalytic conv. failure due to overheating-even though engines are different, i believe my car should be likewise recalled.kia has history of denying wrong, & then very slowly doing ever expanding recalls. i cant afford to wait. couldnt afford dealer prices;still,4 failures at indep shops cost me thousands in cat conv. replacements, towing, rental cars, lost income, meals & lodging when stranded out of town& i'm still making car payments. i'm requesting reimbursement from kia& a car thats actually safe.
Takata recall i purchased my kia index 2014. immediately the paint started bubbling and then peeling around the windshield and hood. we called kia and they said this is not covered. also we get recalls about the engine. i never had a problem until i took it in. the first recall i got they drained the oil and took oil pan off my car. the second one not sure what they did to it but it was about. the engine. now i have to put oil in my vehicle about once a week. the door locks don't work the keyless entry will let you in but you have to lock all your doors by walking around the vehicle. the headlights keeps, blowing. i have probably put 10 headlights in my car over the past year. now my abs traction control and low light for tires is on and will not go offf it amazes me that there are no open recall on thus vehicle i am sure it will not last me until i pay it off. this is the worst vehicle i have ever owned
Engine shuts down while driving. sometimes it will restart and sometimes it won't.
While reverising into a driveway the vehicle experienced low power, when the gas pedal was pressed for addition power there a clunking noise which resulted from a broken axle and engine mounting point on the engine itself.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. a local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact was unaware of the recall. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle frequently will not start and a message pops up saying: " battery discharge warning" "please use the system when the ignition is on". it takes anywhere between 10-20 minutes before the car finally starts. kia said they didn't know what it was, but it has happened again today.
Hesitates upon acceleration. engine stalls and cuts off while driving on highway. lack of power. knocking noise from engine. i made repeated contact with manahawkin kia and kia motors america, inc., case no. 12960528 with no results. at risk for death and serious injury.
Kia sorento owner follow-up letter on safety recall. *bf updated 09/26/2017*js
My car starting to begin to show lack of power at first, which i had mentioned in advance in service appointments. two days before my one year of owning it, the car began to stall out when i stopped for traffic lights within the same day a oil light warning flashed, and the car started to have a knocking noise. i went and added two quarts of oil. once the oil light disappeared but the knocking continued . i took the car to my regular kia service provider the same day and in the process of going there the engine light came on. i was told to bring it in the next day, the attendant told me that he could hear the knocking, which sounded concerning. i brought the car back the next day as instructed and was told that i should be able to pick it up at end of day. time passed by and it was getting late towards closing, so i called the shop. i was told that the engines had seized and that the oil bay was dry. i have never seen something happen so fast. i had no warning of any kind of oil issues until the day before, and i had been taking the car in for it's regular services. the car was in the kia service shop, and moved by them. it was running when i brought it in but i am being told that the engine is shot.
Kia safety recall (#17v224) i had previously filed a complaint with the nhtsa regarding an engine failure. please see complaint #10993259. the purpose of this complaint is a follow-up to the previously filed compliant. as you are aware, kia failed to timely notify its customers that their vehicle may have an engine defect. as you will see from my previously filed complaint, i experienced my first engine failure on april 1, 2017. between april 1st and may 31st, i had experienced three total failures. however, as a result of the april 1st failure, i had the vehicle repaired at midas. i was not aware of the potential recall at this particular time. the repair shop replaced the timing gear and cleaned the engine, but informed me that they could not guarantee the work. the cost for these services was $1,488.50. i also needed to replace the timing solenoids (i did not have this done at midas at the time because i did not have the money). i purchased these at auto zone for $123.42. they were installed by a different mechanic at the cost of $125. once the interim recall information was disseminated, in june, and once i received my vehicle back, which was june 25th, after having the engine replaced, i filed a claim for reimbursement. kia has denied payment because they state the engine was not replaced as per their "limited warranty extention." i later appealed and the representative left me a voice message (that i still possess) which states that it was denied because the engine was not replaced and the work was not done by kia. problem: if i did not know about the recall at the time of failure, why am i being penalized for their faulty engine? additionally, the reimbursement is not under a warranty program but it is for a safety recall. why am i being penalized. kia needs to put forth a good faith effort and make its customers whole.

1st occurrence: on july 10, 2017, at about 11:30 a.m., i made a left turn on a city street in las cruces, nm, which took me through an underpass. it was a 'wide' turn and i was probably moving at about 25 mph. about half way through the turn i lost power steering and by brute force, was able to turn my car and avoid the wall of the underpass. had there been another car to my right, i would most likely have hit it on the driver side. i brought my sorento to a stop and was able to restart the engine. i am unsure which came first, the loss of power steering or the engine stopping. later that day, i took the car to the local kia service facility where no problem(s) could be found. i was the sole occupant of my sorento at the time of this first incident. 2nd occurrence: on july 27, 2017, at about 2:00 p.m., i made a right turn on a city street in las cruces, nm. immediately after completing the turn and just beginning to move straight ahead at about 30 mph, i once again lost my power steering. fortunately there were no other cars in close proximity and i was able to coast into a parking lot, once again using brute force to steer. the engine was not running when i brough my sorento to a stop, but i was able to restart and drove directly to the same kia service facility. no problems could be found this time either. though i am not 100 percent certain, i believe the loss of engine power preceded the loss of power steering. my wife was with me when this incident occurred.
Car began randomly not starting. new battery installed in november 2016. repeated issue 6 days later and again 6 days after that. remembering back to first time i pushed the start button twice, put foot on brake and put car in reverse and back into park. car started. first time on a relatively steep driveway. all other times on flat ground. all incidences in a driveway/garage. took to southwest kia round rock (texas) where it was not able to be duplicated. replaced brake switch since diagnostics was showing a history. also fixed a recall item (rear wheel speed sensor) which i never received a recall letter for. took car home and that evening it would not start. performed the work around and it started. it has been with the dealer 7 days now and they have been unable to replicate it. claimed they opened a tech line but when i called kia consumer affairs to open my own file case i was told they show no record of a tech line being opened. my consumer affairs case number is 12421090. i have now emailed the gm, service manager and the service advisor after having no communication from them at all for the last week. i am concerned it will fail while driving and fear the safety issue this could cause - being hit by another car, etc.the car is still under warranty. it has 40k miles on it and i've owned it for 3 yr and 8 mo.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. while the contact's son was driving, the vehicle started to make a knocking noise. the contact's son noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. on several occasions, the headlights and tail lights failed without warning. the contact stated that he previously replaced the lights several times, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a kia and hyundai dealer at 601-914-4200 where it was diagnosed that the engine had burned oil and needed to be replaced. the headlight and tail light failures could not be duplicated and would be repaired at the owner's expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 12391217. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was 70,000.
Had oil changed on thursday. went on trip on friday. on saturday, the vehicle started acting like it wasn't gearing up going up a hill. on sunday, it was losing power going up hills. had to take foot off excelloator and pat it and then hold it down to get up to 70mph. using a lot of gas from 25 miles per gallon to 14 mpg. couldn't drive over 65 on the way home. took it to dealer. he said oil was 2.5 qrts low even though i just had it changed. they checked the recall and oil and gas filters but cannot find anything wrong with it. now it will only go 40 mph. they are confused and calling kia master mechanic. the recall states this exact thing happening but they say it is not the recall.
I was driving on the highway and when i came to a point where i slowed all the way down my engine froze. luckily it restarted but as soon as it did there was this terrible sound like a big rock was flying around in my engine. also no check engine lights came on so there was no warning. also the a/c stopped working about 1 yr ago. i had freon put in and it stop working about 6 months ago.
On may 5, while driving on the 5 fwy, i felt my car loosing power and when i stop, my car shut off, i turn the car on, hear a clicking sound but was able to pull to the left lane emergency lane. tow the car home and worked on the car, found that the engine bearing gave out. i check for replacement parts and found it was on a recall. took the car to the dealer and dealer would not fix it due to trying to fix issue. it will cost 8000 dollars to fix out of pocket.
I picked up the car on april 28th from monroeville kia for some warranty work on the oil pan and timing belt cover. about an hour later, the car started smoking and i could smell oil burning. i was advised by the dealership to bring the vehicle back to them. i turned around and started heading back there. i made it about a mile when the gas pedal went to the floor and completely lost power and the engine light came on. i put my flashers on and coasted to the side of the road. when the car came to a stop, i noticed flames creeping up between the hood and the windshield. i put the car in park, shut the car off and removed the keys, and got out of the car. within 30 seconds or so the car was completely engulfed in flames. i had already started calling 911 to report the fire. the police and fire department showed up within 6 minutes, but the car was completely engulfed in flames. the car was on the side of a main road. the car was towed as per my car insurance company and they were sending and investigator to look to determine a cause. the car was a complete loss, including everything inside the vehicle. this included kids sports equipment, toys, car seats, clothes, bowling equipment, etc. the only thing they have been able to determine in 3.5 weeks is that the fire started in the engine compartment. i'm unsure if this has anything to do with the current recall of 17v224000 dealing with the motor at this time. i'm awaiting word from kia motors inc. about any investigation they may want to do.
