Problems with 2012 Kia Sorento ENGINE

On average, the 2012 Kia Sorento starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 85 966 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Kia Sorento

Son was driving vehicle on interstate. started making a noise and then stopped. had it towed. dealership said it was the bearings on the underside of crankshaft. 114,000 miles so out of warranty. had to replace engine at cost to me of over $7,000.

Driving 80mph on highway, heard pinging noise from engine, car slowed down and would not accelerate past 60mph. car suddenly lost all power, power steering and brakes, resulting in a dangerous sudden stall event. towed car to dealership, was told engine seized and needed a new engine.

I was driving my son to school on a city street and stopped at a stop sign then tried to accelerate and all of the lights on the dash began flashing and the car just shut-off. i put my car in park and restarted it. this type of incident has happened twice before and the dealership just tells me to keep bringing it in. they can never find what the problem is.

Writing to you and filing a complaint against kia for their lack of resolving his problem with his kia sorento; asking for any assistance that can get him in having his monies refunded. *ld the consumer stated the necessary documentation for reimbursement was mailed to the manufacturer, but the manufacturer did not respond to the request. updated 09/21/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving on the highway, the motor seized. the vehicle was unable to be driven and was towed to an independent repair shop who indicated that the vehicle needed to be serviced by an authorized dealer. the contact was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) and 15v626000 (power train), but the contact was unable to receive the remedy and parts for the recall repair. the vehicle was towed to medved kia (11201 w interstate 70 frontage rd n, wheat ridge, co 80033, (303) 421-0100). the contact was waiting on a response from the manufacturer to provide a remedy for the two recall repairs. the manufacturer stated that they would respond, but the contact had not received the repairs since june of 2016. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000. parts distribution disconnect.

I purchased the vehicle from drivetime in laurel md on 5/9/16. on 5/10/16 i heard a knocking sound coming from the engine area and the vehicle started pulling wile raddling. on 5/10/16 & 5/11/16 i made the dealer aware of the kia having engine issues. on 5/13/2016 the car started dragging and wouldn't go above 60mph. then the car stopped in the middle of 95n going towards ex 43. this was very scary, the wheel locked up and the car lost power so i ended up drifting out of control to the rights side of the road in the middle of rush hour traffic... i'm so lucky to be alive today...this vehicle was in motion on the highway... it sad to know that maryland inspected and passed that death trap

On may 6th, 2016 i was driving to work (back roads with a speed limit of 55 or less), just a few miles from my place of employment when i heard a ticking/clicking type of noise. each time i pressed the gas the noise got louder and the vehicle got sluggish. i stopped at one traffic light and was able to go through with little problem other than the sound getting louder. as i stopped at another traffic light the car stalled, i was able to turn it over and again got through the light but the power was even more sluggish as i pressed the gas and the noise got even louder. the vehicle finally died and i was able to coast to the curb out of the way of traffic. the engine was ceased because a rod broke an drove itself into the oil pump resulting in the need to replace the engine. the first replacement engine did not work properly thus they had to find a second engine to replace the replacement. i was told because i was not the original owner the warrantee did not transfer with the vehicle, the replacement and all related expenses cost me over $8,000. as i have found so many complaints here for the same problem i think there should be a class action lawsuit brought against kia motors. this is a major safety issue and should have a recall before someone dies.

Last year my car stalled and had to be towed to the kia dealership and we were told it was the alternater (which was replaced at this time) my car since then has had off and on times where it would start to stall but not shut off and it has become more frequent over the past few weeks. there is a recall from kia coming out in mid may for this problem which has caused serveral accidents in other cars, and we have been told by the dealership and customer relations that i would have to wait for the recall to come out before anything can be done since they cannot find where it is coming from while it has been in there possession multiple times and the knocking that can be barely heard is "within reason". i was also told by the kia customer relations that if my engine died before the recall then they would replaced it. i told them my main concern is i have four children that i drive around with and don't want to get into an accident due to my engine dying while driving and they told me to take it to another dealer to have them check it out, which i will but i am putting this in in the mean time.

I was driving about 60 mph down 269 highway when all at once i heard a loud pop like sound and then smoke started going out the tail pipe and then under the hood the car lost all power and stopped. i got out and rasised the hood and it was on fire . luckely someone one was behind me and had a fire exstinquer and put it out. called police they would not come out called insurance and they sent a tow truck. we bought this car brand new in 2011 and always kelpt it serviced, they took it to the kia lot we bought it from and said it was a fire in the bottom of the engine and it would cost $10,000 to fix it we were still paying on it. so the insurance called it a loss. now we are out car and no money to boot. i had just took my grandbaby home it could of been really bad. i got on the enternet and found several other 2012 kia sorentos that had the same problems.

I first bought my vehicle from a used lot still very well condition all service records car fax, etc a few months later i had issues with the system turning lights on an a weird engine noise, i brought it into a kia delareship only to be laughed at by the service team over the phone because they hadn't realized i had picked up the line, they told me this was all normal fixed the "problems", and sent me on my way out. i called several times after that to tell them i didn't think the engine noise was correct and they told me it was normal wear and tear, a few months later my entire car shut off while on an expressway with my self pregnant and my 2 year old son. it is now at the shop and they are asking for extensive information and service records which i have and are being very odd about my vehicle and when they will know the problem. please be careful when buying from kia, i could have been seriously injured with my children. trading in once the issue or engine if it even gets fixed. scared to death.

We were told we had a 10 yr, 100000 mile warranty bumper to bumper in jan 2012 when we bought the vehicle. last week the airbag light and engine light came on. we took the car to the local kia dealership and was told the warranty didn't cover check engine or airbag problems, even though the dealership service department said they would be covered if the unit was under 5 years old. they want $1000+ to fix the engine light problem on the intake manifold and $1400 to fix the airbag problem. both units should be under warranty. we had a spare tire problem a month after getting the car. the spare tire was bad and they wanted us to buy a new tire. nothing we have is covered under warranty it seems. we were told the entire airbag system on the car would not operate unless we paid the $1400 to repair the airbag system.

@ 66,000 miles, the oil pressure switch, located under the intake manifold, is defective and leaked all the oil out of the engine. you cannot replace the switch/sensor without disassembling the engine. kia will only cover this repair up to 60,000 miles.

We own 2012 kia sorento sx, purchased new. the car has 79643 miles. our family was driving on interstate 84 from boston to connecticut. the car was driving at 60~65 mph. suddenly, the car tpm (tire pressure monitoring) came on and within 5~10 second all lights ( traction control/ battery/ all wheel drive) started flashing. it was raining and wiper stopped in middle. all of these events occurred within 10~15 seconds. i pulled over from left lane to center lane. i felt car is losing power with no wipers running. i than pulled over to the breakdown lane ' the car started shaking and engine tuned off. the breaks were hard to press. after the car was turned off - i cannot even move the shifter from drive mode to parking. we called the tow truck and towed the car to kia of east hartford ( kia's dealer in ct) i was lucky to pull over without any accident or tragic. this kind of sudden death of car without warning is very dangerous. i called kia customer service team to report this incidence and they were not even concerned. i reviewed the comment/ complain from other customer about the similar incidence they experienced as well. i request want nhtsa to investigate the matter.

I bought my kia new from the dealership with an extended warranty. it currently has 83000mi on it. when i start it, it is making a rattling noise coming from the engine that only last a few seconds. we took it to the dealer and they are saying it needs a new engine because there are shards of metal in the oil pan. the cost to replace is $6000. the engine light has not come on at any point while owning the suv, nor has any other light. we have maintained oil changes at every 4000mi or less but we completed all oil changes and filter changes our self. the master mechanic stated that there was no sludge in the engine and the engine looked to be well taken care of. the extended warranty is not wanting to cover the cost of the repair. we are still waiting to see what the dealership is going to do.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving at approximately 65 mph, a loud banging noise emitted from the engine. after stopping the vehicle and lifting up the hood, the contact discovered smoke, oil and a small flame coming from the engine. the flame self extinguished. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the vehicle had experienced a catastrophic engine failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufactured was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 129,000. updated 02/02/16*lj *js

Friday 9/18/15 10:40 am, backing out of parking spot slowly into a road. engine suddenly failed, engine light came on, and the brakes completely failed. was able to restart the car and park it again, but brakes still failed and had to use the emergency brake and the curb and tree at curb to stop vehicle. towed to ed voyles kia on peachtree industrial blvd in atlanta who found no record of the incident in computer and that all diagnostics were normal and they couldn't reproduce the problem, so there was nothing they could do. i sent them this link with others experiencing similar issues and told rep about others' experiences:http://www.carcomplaints.com/kia/sorento/2012/engine/engine.shtml. then had it towed to cobb county kia in kennessaw, ga. they maintained neglect on our part b/c oil level was at 0 (previous dealership saw no problem here), engine had major sludge and particles of metal in it, needed full engine replacement for $6500 didn't make sense with our regular oil changes and didn't explain the brake failure, though rep said it did. had it towed to aaa car care plus in marietta. could not reproduce the issue and said the car, including the engine, was in great shape, was full of all fluids. mechanic also said that there were 0 records on computer and that one of dealerships likely wiped it completely clean. have rented a car in meantime because my, my husband's, my two kids' and other drivers and pedestrians safety would be compromised. other comments online mention problem more than once, some on the highway. also remembered that my husband had had trouble starting the car a couple of months back, with no lights coming on at all. he got the battery checked out, and he was told it was fine. we relayed this to the mechanics too, but they seemed not to acknowledge the info. we cannnot and will not drive the car until it's resolved.

While driving on i95 we began hearing a noise from the engine. it was faint at first, just a pinging that would happen when we pushed the accelerator down. we just had an oil change at 94,000 miles so knew our oil level was good. the faint noise grew steadily louder over the next 30 minutes and we pulled off the highway and into a service/gas station. the mechanics came out when they heard us pull up. they knew almost immediately that it was catastrophic engine failure and would need major repairs if not a rebuild. the kia dealer is going to confirm today, but i beileve that it is an engine connection pin that broke. we were told we were lucky it did not break and puncture the engine block while we were driving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the engine was replaced, but the failure recurred after 10,000 miles of being driven. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was informed that the engine needed to be replaced for a second time. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Upon arrival at my destination the car would not turn off. i had to press the ignition off button several time before the car would shut off. there were times would have to sit in the car about 5-7 minutes trying to get the car to turn off.

The engine compartment of the vehicle caught on fire, eventually engulfing the entire vehicle in flames. the vehicle was traveling at normal highway speeds when this occurred.

This is the third time that the 2012 kia sorento has surged on its own when stopped with the engine running. if you don't have your foot on the brake the car will run away. *tr

While driving down highway at 55 miles per hour with a semi tractor trailer behind me. my kia sorento just shut off. i just pulled over on the side of the highway in time so i wouldn't get hit by the semi. it took me about 6 hours to get my car home. i was out in where there wasn't a garage or nothing around. after getting it home and jump start the battery it started. then on 4/22/15 i was taking my wife to a appointment and it did the same thing and the engine is knocking before it shut off going done highway. i bought this kia used with 52,000 miles on it in july 2014. have extended warranty for 6 months or 36000. well 6 months is passed and now i am struck with this problem. called dealer where i got it. they wont help. i hope that you can help me with this problem because it is a dangerous thing that the car just shut off driving down highway. i am paying for a car that is faulty and they mislead you on the mileage to. only get 20-23 at 55 miles per hour. not now 30 or so like they say. i hope you can help me. i still have to get my car yet. it is getting pricey to keep a car that suppose to be good car. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure only occurred once. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vehicle was diagnosed, but there was no failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted, but the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle engine sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for unknown repairs; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 63,381.

The first incident occurred at a traffic light. i went to accelerate and realized that the car had shut itself off. i put it in park, and restarted it without incident. when i brought it into the dealership, they said there was nothing they could do and that i should bring it in as soon as it happens next time. the second time, march 28, 2015, i was trying to pull into a parking spot when i was unable to turn the wheel. again, i realized that the car had stalled, so i put it into park, and restarted it. while there was no harm done, my main concern is that something like this will happen while driving at a higher speed, and cause an accident. i have seen this same occurrence in other reviews and wonder why this is not more of a concern for the manufacturers. what will it take for a recall? *tr

Vehicle began leaking oil, oil light came on. refilled with oil to try and find the leak without success. mechanic found a bad oil pressure switch. the oil pooled up in a valley in the engine. this valley had a manufactured hole in the top of it and that's were the oil was dumping out onto the ground. made it appear that it was a rear main seal leak. *tr

I was driving to work at 55 mph and all the lights on the dash came on and my head lights shut off. my car restarted right after that and now it has done it three times since then. i am nervous when i drive because, i fear i will be stalled somewhere and it will be winter. i drive 47 miles one way to work. i am seriously thinking of trading the car off. i know i won't get anything for it but, at least i will be safe. we were told by kia that if the car shuts off it is resetting the computer and they will be unable to diagnose if a dummy light doesn't stay on. i see there are more complaints about the same issue i am having with my kia and i think kia should do a recall on them. this is a serious issue and i think it needs to be resolved asap. *tr

My car shut off while driving on the highway (doing about 70mph) back in the summer of 2013. luckily, there was no traffic so i was able to coast over to the side of the highway to restart my car (push button start). they said it was the crankshaft sensor. on august 7, 2014 (44,516k), 8 oil changes using synthetic oil and kia oil filters (2 generic), my engine was making a fluttering noise and then a knocking noise.end result, they said i neglected my car and needed a new engine. kia motors outright refused to fix my car under the warranty. even when proof of oil changes was done. i had no warning whatsoever. no smoke of any kind coming from the tailpipe, not sluggish, no warning lights, nothing. kia motors never fixed my car. it sat dead in my driveway for over 15 months. i finally wrote a letter to the owner of the dealership back on june 3, 2015 and she contacted me in october and said that, "if anyone has pull with kia, it's me, i own the dealership, and they won't even talk to me about your car." she ended up replacing my engine with a used one, got it all ready for inspection and put newer tires on it so that it would pass inspection and offered to pay for half the cost ($4200, i paid $2100). this is a very big problem. i am hearing of more and more people having the exact same issue i did. even one person who stated all of their vehicles maintenance was done through the dealership and kia motors still refused to fix their car under the warranty. something needs to be done about this. let's not wait until god forbid someone gets killed because of this issue.

I used mobile one 5w30, i used kia oil filters (2 generic), i had 44,516k miles on it on august 7, 2014. i did 8 oil changes. my car was running perfectly fine. no white or black smoke, no dashboard lights, not sluggish, nothing and the engine seized without warning. i was on the highway doing about 65 when i heard a fluttering noise that very quickly turned into a knocking noise. i could barely pull over without almost getting hit twice. i had it towed to the dealership and they said i never did any oil changes and there was approximately 20k miles worth of sludge in my engine. my oil was changed around march 7, 2014. kia motors down right refused to even lol at it. i hired and attorney who wrote a demand letter and 4 months later they down right refused to fix it under the warranty. my car sat in my driveway for over 15 months. i reported this to nhtsa back in late 2012 early 2013. i wore a letter to the owner of the dealership and she put a used engine in it and paid for half. needless to say i'm happy i have my car back but i don't trust it. i have the top of the line sx awd and i also added the ambient lighting and tinted the front windows. i love my car but feel i should be compensated for the shear hell and huge financial burden it has caused my family. i've had it back since november 12, 2016 and the financial burden is still haunting my family.

My 2012 kia sorento was running fine, no warning whatsoever. i was on the highway when i heard a flutter noise that turned into a knocking sound. had the car towed to dealer. tow truck driver started the car and drove it approximately 60 ft to a parking spot. i was told by the dealer i had catastrophic engine failure and that the engine was seized tight (which was not true at all) due to neglect. i have provided kia corp. and the dealer with all of the service records as well as the oil purchase receipts, oil filter receipts and oil change records. oil changes were performed to what kia's manual suggests. i have done research and have found numerous kia owners with the exact same issue i had. their complaints are almost exactly word for word what happened to my kia. something needs to be done about this...most kia owners had this catastrophic engine failure happen on the highway or when their teenagers were driving. kia has a class action law suit against them for this very reason. please do something before someone really gets hurt. i was very lucky there was not a lot of traffic and was able to get off of the highway. if there were traffic and i was not able to get off of the highway.. it could gave resulted in much worse. please i am begging you to do something about this. i have came across so many people in stores, restaurants, and dealers while looking for another car to be able to get my child to and from school, football, etc. i still have a loan on my kia and now have another loan because this issue. kia has based my warranty repair on pictures the dealer took. they absolutely refuse to listen to me nor help me. i begged and pleaded with them to look further into it and they wanted nothing to do with it. then i was told there was nothing else they could do and i needed to get my car off of their lot.

I was driving my car in a parking garage and without warning as i was making a left turn the car shut down completely, no lights, no engine, no power steering, stiff brakes. i was unable to even turn on my hazard lights. someone was kind enough to help push my vehicle to the side and eventually i was able to restart the car. when i took it to the dealer, they found nothing and were unable to recreate the problem. this could be a real danger on the road and now my trust in the car is shaken! scary to see other people reporting the exact same problem. *tr

I was in traffic and the engine stopped running. i noticed that engine stopped with all the indicators on including the check engine light on but my car was not running anymore and will not drive even when i pressed the gas pedal. i put it on park and turned it off and restarted. it started. this happened twice within 10 minutes of each other. *tr

For the third time in a 2 month span, my 2012 kia sorento has completely shut down as we have been driving it. we are at the 60k miles mark. this is very dangerous. two of the three times we have been doing around 40 mph on very busy streets and thank god, we did not hit another car or get hit. the vehicle with zero warning, will just die and we will lose all power steering, we can't shift gears, and the brakes do not work like they normally do. the first time i thought it was just a battery, so i replaced it. but since then we have had it at the dealership twice and they do not know what is wrong with it. they will get it running again and then a couple of weeks later, it will die again. i have two babies that ride in this vehicle and i am looking at my options to getting rid of it. this vehicle is very dangerous!! *tr

Wife driving from ny to conn, vehicle losing power, extreme shaking, grinding/rattle noise, engine light came on, stayed on, then blinking on and off, vehicle really running bad at this time. following day, engine light still on, need to pump gas peddle to get started. idle very rough. 2012 kia sorento with 38;000 miles. very concerned that vehicle will shut off completely, as is common per numerous complaints, at speed on the highway. will bring to dealership tomorrow, however, have been researching kia sorento engine problems this afternoon and it does not look good. 1) dealership techs unable to duplicate problems. (common) 2) recall to replace ecm but customers not notified as deemed not a safety issue by kia. really???? 3) throttle actuator failure part of problem but not widely known by consumers.(common) important for 2012-to 2014 owners. new york has lemon laws. if your vehicle is less than 2 years old or has less than 18,000 miles and you have had to take it back for repairs several times, there are attorneys who live for this type of thing. i am in this group and sent e-mail today to just those type of sharks. be pro-active, not re-active. i plan on having plan b in place if i find myself going down the path of "we don,t know what is wrong, the computer says your car is fine, just because you need to rent a room at the dealership because you are there so much does not mean we don,t care". what we really mean is we really don,t care!! reality check.. fyi check this out...........http://arfc.org/complaints/2013/kia/sorento/engine/problem.aspx ps in ny don,t forget class action law-suit that is currently going on, does not cost anything to add your name to the list of plaintiffs. *tr

I have only recently seen articles regarding the hyundai/kia engines catching fire. i had a 2012 kia sorento that the engine caught fire in 2014 hence totalling the vehicle. i have tried for years to discuss this with people but since it wasnt an active recall no one would pursue the case. on may 22, 2014, my detailer went to turn the car on and to move it and the whole engine caught fire. obviously i do not still own this vehicle but i would like some answers.

Kia recall. on may 22, 2014, my 2012 kia sorento caught fire and was totaled. there was no explanation at this time, but now it is coming to surface that these vehicles are spontaneously catching fire.

While driving on the freeway, through traffic, my vehicle seized up on me. i was going about 30-35mph and the vehicle wouldn't accelerate. the music was playing, but when i looked down at the dashboard all the dashboard lights where on, i lost control of my powersteering and brakes. i had to put the vehicle in park and press the start button again. this is the 3rd time on the freeway it has done it, in additional to the 4-7 times in the neighborhood. all while going about 35mph and under. i have taken it to the dealership repetitively and they have been unsuccessful in locating the problem. the 2nd time i took it to the dealership, they replaced the full throttle body, but exactly one week of having it back in my possession the vehicle lost power while driving again. i have been told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, several times, but from the look of this website, i am not the only one with that problem. *tr

At the time of the incident the vehicle was being driven about 15 mph making a right turn. at the time of turning the vehicle's steering wheel the car shut off unexpectedly shutting the engine off. loss of control then occurred of the steering wheel (to stiff to turn) along with a difficult breaking process causing the car to veer off the roadway. fortunately, the vehicle was brought to a stop by placing an extreme and increased force onto the break pedal before a brick pillar was struck head on. *tt

I never received a recall notification for my vehicle. i was deployed from 2013-2015 and didn't have a physical address and i would like to get the issue fixed.

On 3/25/14, my 2012 sorento just shut off while driving. the car was put in park and it started fine. took it to the dealer and it spent 2 days at the dealer. the problem could not be recreated , no fix, no issue they kept stating & there was nothing to fix. now we're in may 2014 and the car shut off again. i was at a light and the car just shut off. i put the car in park and it started again. the is a huge safety issue and kia is taking no action for this and there seems to be alot of complaints about this on your website. i think an investigation should be opened and something should be done for kia sorento owners. we are paying for cars with a huge safety issue and obviously need the cars we are paying for. *tr

My 2012 kia sorento completely stalled in a parking lot. i had just gotten off the highway(speeds of 55-60) pulled into my jobs parking lot and all the lights electronics stayed on but the brakes locked up, the steering wheel locked up and the car would not drive. put the car in park after a few minutes and it turned on fine. now its at the dealer and they can not duplicate the problem and the car is driving fine. they claim no codes on diagnostics and see nothing wrong with the car after test driving it. there were no repairs done on the car because nothing could be found. this is a major issue and a worrisome one. lets get on kia about this to solve the issue. *tr

on march 14, 2014 while driving approximately 60 mph on a highway i heard a noise in my engine. i was attempting to maneuver off the highway so i could have my vehicle towed to the local kia dealership. i was in the middle lane of a three lane highway during rush hour when my engine shot one of the engine rods through the bottom of my engine block. this caused a larger than a silver dollar sized hole in the bottom of the engine block and separated the engine from where it is secured to the vehicle. kia and the dealership have yet to be able to fix my vehicle which is completely covered under the manufactures warranty as i have had all of my routine maintenance and service performed at a local kia dealership. they replaced a remanufactured short block assembly in my vehicle on 3/28/14 i was told to pick up my vehicle later that afternoon. i received a call back that the mechanic was on the phone with one of kia's engineers because of a noise coming from my engine. they are now re-replacing a remanufactured short block assembly in my vehicle which is unacceptable to me because of all of the issues kia is having with their engines. i still do not have an eta as of 4/9/14 of when i will have my vehicle repaired as i am unsure they have even diagnosed the problem correctly because of all of the force behind the engine failure and they are unsure when another remanufactored engine will be available. *tr

A few months ago i was driving my daughter to her volleyball practice and upon leaving the parking lot and driving into the street i lost all power and control of my car including my power steering etc. i almost crashed the car into the side of a house but lucky i was able to press the brakes hard enough to finally get the car to stop. i then pushed the power button and all of the lights came on the display but no power to the car. i pressed the power again and the car started. then three days ago i was in the car pick up line picking up another daughter from school. i had the power of the car off and when i went to start the car it would not start. i pushed the power button and again all of the light on the display came on. then i pushed it again and it started. i believe this is a very serious issue. if myself or my husband are driving any of our 4 children on the freeway at 65-70 miles and hour and the car decides to power itself off it could become a catastrophe one of which i am not willing to risk. i have done my research and found several other complaints about these exact issues however nothing is ever done about. it's the same old story you take it into your dealer and they run the diagnostic and it doesn't show anything wrong. which is what happened to me both times i took my kia in. this automobile has a defect, which is terribly dangerous to drivers and passengers, and which the automobile manufacturer appears to be ignoring, much in the manner that gm ignored serious, dangerous, and sometimes fatal defects in one or more of its models. i truly don't understand how this same exact problem can keep happening and kia is choosing not to ignore it rather than issue a recall on the car. *tr

My kia sorento stalled in the middle of road while crossing a stop sign. the engine shutoff and all the lights on the panel lighted on. this has now happened three times. last two times we went to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong. there are not error codes saved in kia so they don't have a proof that this condition happened. this is very serious. we were lucky that this happened on the neighborhood streets with no traffic. i was able to start the car back by putting it in parking brake and pressing the start button again. i have seen several other posts with the similar problem. i hope this is thoroughly investigated as dealership is not ready to acknowledge or try to even re-create the problem. *tr

On 12-25-2013, noticed that the side market lights remained on for several hours after the engine was shut off. couple of days later, car wouldn't start after pushing on the key-less entry push button start. car finally started after several push button attempts. next day the car wouldn't stop after pushing on the key-less entry stop button. engine finally turned off after several attempts by playing with the gear shift knob and driving around the neighborhood. "unable to stop the engine by pushing on the key-less entry push button stop" problem continued, so it was taken to the dealership. the dealership couldn't duplicate the problem, so the car was returned to us w/o a fix. tomorrow i will be contacting kia main offices regarding this problem. *tr

While driving home from work traffic was heavy and for no reason my car just stalled i managed to coast to the shoulder put it in park and restart it . *tr

I was driving on the freeway, there was a lot of traffic so we weren't driving very fast, and the car just shut off, the engine light went on and the steering wheel locked. i was able to put on my hazard lights and then i turned the car off and tried restarting it. the car started without any problems and drove normal after that. *tr
