We were driving on a road at about 35 miles an hour when there was a loud bang from the rear end almost sounded as if a tire head blown upon bringing it back and doing tests and checks we found at the rear transfer case or differential was to blame. upon further research on the internet we found that there has been many complaints about the rear differential or transfer case occurring on many of the same vehicles

Hearing whirring and whining noise from drive shaft on 2011 kia sorrento. we think it could be related to the recall: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2011/kia/sorento/suv/4wd#recalls after calling the dealer - our vin# is not listed with this recall. i've seen several forum posts of other consumers with the same issue with 2011 kia sorrento and na vin#. such as: http://www.carproblemzoo.com/kiamotor/sorento/driveshaft-problems.php we are going to have this repaired before an accident occurs, but think it should be covered under the recall...

In november 2015 had major oil line failure, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. in december 2017 had major oil leak, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. june 2019 check engine light activated upon putting vehicle in park. took it to kia dealership and they found pieces of bearing in the bottom of oil filter housing. kia dealership recommended replacement of bank oil control valve and ultimately replacement of engine. vehicle only has 86,600 miles on it. kia dealerships not interested in buying vehicle and quote me approximately $6,000 to replace engine. i suspect this may be same issue kia had with 2012 sorrentos which led to recall.

While at highway speed of about 50 mph, the vehicle will shift hard. the feeling you get is that you have driven over a curb. have brought to dealership. they checked transmission fluid and reprogrammed transmission. they were unable to determine an issue. the problem persists and is intermittent.

When speeding up transmission. will shift hard. the vehicle looses power and i have to pull over, shut it off, wait a minute to restart then begin driving again

Car stalls and jerks when driving.when placing in drive it takes off very slow and under power.while driving the car changed gears on its own even jerking hard.

Took my car in to the dealership and found out i need to pay over 4k in repairs the repair listing consisted of intermediate bearings (which later was told they didn't need to be repaired after i fussed about the cost. had to get my transmission replaced again along with 2 cv shaft front suspensions. with labor and parts 4k. my rebuilt transmission warranty was up in august 2018.

According to the obd code reader: code p0335, $07e8 generic. crankshaft position sensor a circuit. vehicle has trouble starting. the tachometer falls to 0 as opposed to sitting at a higher idle, and does not move when pressing foot on gas pedal when stationary or in motion. when in motion, there can be temporary loss of power, the inability to shift gears, and/or the vehicle shakes and rattles. this happens on city streets and highways, when in all types of traffic and when moving at constant speeds. when this situation happens, the car does not shift gears at all and must be restarted. this has caused dangerous lane changing to highway shoulders as well as difficult attempts back onto the roadways during rush hour.

When driving between 35-45 mph the tachometer will drop to 0 and the sorento will lunge or buck, hesitate and will not respond to acceleration. the engine light flashes and sometimes stays on. one time i accelerated to pass, it responded but stopped midway thru the pass, decelled back to 20 mph. i could not complete my pass and had to fall back behind the slower vehicle. i understand there is a voluntary service campaign by kia # sc106 but no dealership acknowledges it. there is 130,000 miles on the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving 50 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle decelerated to 10 mph; however, the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to turner kia (4201 chambers hill rd, harrisburg, pa 17111, (717) 564-2240) where the cause of the failure was not determined; however, the contact was informed that the engine might be faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 116,000. *tt consumer notified corporate headquarters. updated 12/11/18*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. additionally, the contact was informed that the lower radiator hose fractured and also needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. an unknown dealer was contacted and provided a cost estimate to replace the engine. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

Was driving felt like i hit something and the car would not shift into any other gear. i stopped put it in park and no change after work,8 hours later, the car ran fine. it had been shifting rough for a while, at or around 50mph, it would jerk the whole car like it was shifting up or down

This is the second time my car jolts when i am driving. does not matter how fast i am going. it feels like the car gets really sluggish and it jolts before acceleration, it happened about two years ago and the dealership made me pay $600 to change the intake manifold claiming that it would fix that issue and it did not. after that it kept doing the same thing and i look it up online and saw that people were saying to request for a transmission update, so i went back and they did that and it "fixed" the issue. that time my engine light was on and came back on even after they fixed the supposed issue. this time there's no engine light on and the car jolts even harder. i have seen so many complaints about this online i don't understand why my car does not show as a recall for the transmission. this has been happening now for a few days and the jolting just gets worse every time i drive. last night when i was on the highway going about 40 mph it did it and again after 50mph it was very scary.

2011 kia sorento - while driving, the gears in my car stopped working and made a terrible loud noise. after getting vehicle towed, problem was found to be intermediate shaft on passenger side.below is the detailed recall info-however my vin does not show this recall. but i think it should. description of vehicles is mine. this is exactly what happened to me: sb082b - recall to replace intermediate shaft. recall: 11v258000 recall date 04/25/2011 component power train:driveline:driveshaft summary kia is recalling certain model year 2011 sorento 2wd vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions and 2.4l engines manufactured from the start of production through may 22, 2010. the intermediate shaft may suffer from noise and excessive wear due to a misalignment of the intermediate shaft with the right side output gear. continuing to drive the vehicle in this condition leads to the development of a whirring/whining noise and can eventually cause damage to the automatic transmission. consequence damage to the transmission may cause loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. what owners should do dealers will replace the right side output gear and intermediate shaft free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during may 2011. owners may contact kia at 1-800-333-4542. **i submitted a case to kia #12833214, after 10 days i didn't get a reply so i called them. i spoke to haley and she advised my car was not manufactured in a location that had this issue. i think kia got this wrong. my car obviously had the exact problem they are stating and should have been replaced by kia free of charge. instead, i had to pay $635 to replace the exact part this recall was on. kia has refused to reimburse me. when i asked who i could complain to, they said there is no one. so i am reaching out to you.... thanks, evonne (kia owner since jun 2010)

Since i bought the 2011 kia sorento the transmission or engine tends to stall in the middle of driving like not changing gears, gets locked, jerks back and forth till it unlocks or changes gears while at the same time slowing or stopping car in it's tracks. twice i have hit my head on the steering wheel, have had seat belts lock tight against me and my passengers when it locks while trying to change gears. it happens at least 3-6 time a year since i have had the car. i have reported it to my service dealership kearny pearson kia, 7303 clairemont mesa blvd, san diego, ca 92111 and they have not found anything wrong. these past two years the gears locking is getting worse and the car slows down instantly from driving on the frwy 65 mph down to 35 mph instantly almost having cars hit me from behind. same for driving on the street going 35-40 mph dropping to 5-10mph and stop/jerk/go/stop/jerk and almost having cars behind me crash into me. i have been blessed to have had fast reacting drivers behind me or no drivers. this last incident last month was so powerful that i smacked the steering wheel and thought i had gotten hit but didn't. my chest got tight as if i was having a heart attack from the force and my kids cried from the whiplash. this was yet the strongest. also, since 2011 i have had 7 - 10 incidents of smoke coming out of the air vents, smiling like fire. i turn off the vent and it continues for 10min then goes away. i am no mechanic but if i had to guess i would say something with the air-conditioning being high for long periods and then when it gets turned down or off seems to activate these things especially the gears locking. just my observation. i hope you can get to the bottom of this because for the first time in my life i fear for my life and those with me or around me with this car. you just don't know when it will happen next.

My transmission isn't shifting properly i cant even reverse 1st 2nd and part of 3rd gears are rough shifting. its also causing it to make a clunking sound in the rear axel also wont shift while turning.

(1)transmission got stuck in 2nd gear while driving on the highway. transmission would "jump" every time the car hit 50mhp. could not replicate after sitting in driveway overnight. (2)abs light is constantly on-told it is a clock spring. kia not worried about it. (3) doors stick-drivers door will lock itself and cannot open from outside. this happened 3x while car is running and i exited to get mail. front passenger will not close- have to knock handle to close. (4)backup camera intermittent. (5)bluetooth does not pair with phone-intermittent. (6) gas door sticks- must hit release button dozens of times before it opens. (7) tire pressure guages broken.

Have problems shifting into gear, took it to repair station and they don't know what's wrong with it. it doesn't happen all the time but when it happens you are stuck where your at. the shifter gets very stiff or hard and won't go into gear.

My 2011 kia sorento has been trouble from day one. a week after i bought it, the wiring harness had to be replaced which took over a month to get the part from kia. then at 90,000 miles the transmission started failing and it took me forever to get kia to replace that. then the replacement transmission went bad less than a year later and they replaced that. now, at 120,000 miles (out of warranty) the motor has died. grindstaff kia in johnson city, tn tells me it is a 'internal failure' of the motor, it could be a rod or cam, but they would not know unless they took the motor apart. kia's product is terrible and a safety hazard. when the motor stopped my husband was in 65 mile an hour traffic and could have been injured when it started to loose power and then the starter stuck and wires started smoking which could have caused a fire. my motor was a 4 cylinder 2.4 liter engine that needs to be recalled by kia for failures. they want to chage me $5500 plus tax to put another engine in the junk, which to me is adding good money to bad product. i also still owe a bank $$ for this car which is going to be negative equity i'm sure. kia should stand behind it's product and recall this engine which is junk. i will not buy kia again, that is for sure!

I bought the sorento used 2 months ago,it has 76,000 miles on it. has driven fine up until now. it seems to struggle going up hills, no power, at random times which are more frequent now it hesitates like it wants to stall , then jerks and then goes back to driving fine. it seems to have this issue around 40-50 miles per hour. i brought it to be looked at and they say there is nothing wrong with the transmission. feeling very frustrated , this is a safety issue!

2011 kia sorento - while driving 60mph the car resists speeding up, rpms stay at 2 no matter the speed. while driving rpms stay at zero. while speeding up the car jerks, causing the rpms to drop to zero. have to pull over turn the car off and start it again, it then drives normal. this occurs on the highway and driving around town. instances where the car is sputtering while driving in town around 40mph the car dies when i come to a complete stop. this has occurred multiple times over the last year. i have taken the car to the dealership but because they can not replicate the issue they say they can not repair it.

Car shifter is not engaging and disengaging resulting in not being able to place car in park. this issues was a recall before however; the fix didn't resolve the problem and kia has not offered a new fix. also, air bag light still illuminating after recall fix. again kia refuse to fix and issue could cause air bag not to deploy in an accident. also, back rear passenger door won't open from the inside or outside.

I was driving north on rt28 traveling at 65mph i took my exit. after stopping at the sign, i hit the gas to go and the vehicle was sluggish then it shifted hard. i stopped about .25 miles down the road and put the vehicle in park and back into drive and the same thing happened. it shifted hard after a sluggish start. i got the vehicle home luckily and found the transmission fluid leaking everywhere. after having it towed to a transmission repair shop, the repair person informed me that there was a hole in side of the transmission.

Takata recall when i'm driving and accelerate the car don't shifting the gear or its delaying. sometime it not shifting from 4 ht speed and up. i read on internet about many complains and about recalls in 2015 regarding this type of problem. https://www.cars.com/research/kia-sorento-2011/recalls/ please help me to fix this problem

Was driving my kia and suddenly could no longer drive pulled over n traffic and could only put the e brake on. nothing else would go in to gear drive reverse and the brakes were not working properly. so put the e brake on and called tow truck..took it to made in america made in japan..and the say its the input shaft..exactly described on recall for my vin # [xxx] . manufacture call#sc124. nhtsa# 15v626 .this happened on 225 placerville rd folsom on friday 1/5/2017 .its currently still at made in america made in japan..please contact. me a.s.a.p [xxx] . [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I am having the same problems i have read about with the 2011 2.4 engine. sudden loss of power when the pedal is depressed, stalling upon acceleration, jerking motion and a loud clanking noise when shifting from park, hard shifts from 1st and 2nd gear, and a constant whirring noise in the motor while driving, not while in park. i believe the same defect that affected the transmission on the 4 cylinder engines needs to be investigated on the v6 engines.

The car has a no-star condition, uneven engagement when shifting gears. whenever driving and if i want to suddently speed to avoid an object or to adjust to traffic speeds the car hesitates for a second or two. i almost crash today due to this problem, putting at risk my whole family... i believe there a some recalls on similar vehicles with this problem but my vin is not on the list yet

My horn stopped working. my transmission went completely out and was repaired a little after a year the transmission completely went out again. the vehicle also stops accelerating. the sorrento seem like a hazardous vehicle and i can't believe there are absolutely no recalls on certain issues. i have read other issues and i'm seeing i'm not the only one with the same issues.

While driving the car it loses power , i start to smell burnt transmission fluid so i take it to eagles transmission here in mckinney tx. to find out the transmission needs replacing. whis is costing me $2100 that includes new transmission & price of labor. i googled this problem on 2011 kia to see if it's a recall but unfortunately its not but it was for the 2011 kia sorento 4 , cylinder. but it's a lot of topics on our 2011 kia v6 engine but never became a recall

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v626000 (power train). while attempted to shift the gears, the vehicle lunged. on several occasions, while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate. on several occasions, while driving, the engine stalled and lost power. the contact mentioned that all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle needed to be taken to a kia dealer. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 132,000. parts distribution disconnect.

I was driving at 65 miles an hour on flat roads and the car went to shift to a higher gear and clunk the transmission feels as though it is going to break. this has happened numerous times. i have also had trouble with the clunking noise when i am going 40 and getting ready to speed up. please help fix this problem for the saftey of others.

While i was driving on a city street and turning a corner the car made a loud clunking sound then stopped. the engine continued to run but the car wouldn't move forward. tried to shift gears but engine just reved up but would go. had to put the emergency brake on to keep it from rolling. finally had to have it towed off the street. we took it to a mechanic and he thought it was the same issue as the nhtsa campaign id 11v258000 and group service campaign number sc 082 [rev 5] so he called the local kia dealer to confirm. despite my car fitting make/model/year/manufacture date they said this vin was not part of the recall. he suggested that i do further research.

While driving on the highway, the car suddenly jumps forwards and i feels like someone hit me from behind. the same thing happens while rolling down a hill or slowing down with or without applying the breaks. it feels like it wants to shift and something is holding it back for a fraction of a second. on sports mode, when manually shifting from 2 to 3 i can experience the same response. on gear 5 sports mode, you feel the sudden jerk. the problem seemed to be more significant when the engine is colder. i noticed the hesitation lasted longer before the jerk in the winter. i have been to many mechanic shops and they tell me the car is shifting fine and that they aren't to fully replicate the problem. i hope this adds to the millions of complaints and gets kia to do something. this problem has been persistent for over a year now.

Car jolts/shudders/ slightly jerk when pressing on the gas pedal for more power. car suddenly jerks forward when going from 60 to 65 mph.

My neighbor bumped the back of the kia with his buick no visible damage to either cars bumpers the kia was in park no one was in it the kia it then started moving down the street it rolled about 400 yards went thru some hedges and then stopped in a neighbors yard no injurys but the vehicle was in park the whole time ,i took the kia to the local kia dealer they had the vehicle 4 days and couldn't replicate what happened i told them i had read about a recall with a similar problem they said my vin # wasn't part of it i feel kia should adress this it wasn't imagined there were 3 or 4 neghbors that saw the empty vehicle just rolling down the street a responce would be appreciated thank you

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while the vehicle was in the park position, it rolled away and crashed into a tree. the contact stated that the vehicle was recalled per nhtsa campaign number: 15v626000 (power train). the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not towed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Takata recall when driving at higher rate of speed when trans kicks in to higher gear it has a loud bang feels like the transmission is gonna fall out . sometimes it looses power when driving

For over a year now and happening more frequently, almost every day, when accelerating at 35-40 mph there is a hesitation and then a jerk in the transmission. also, when foot is taken off the accelerator it feels like the car is going to die. this happens when driving in the city and the highways. i told the dealer every time i went in for a oil change. informed dealer last week and i was told i still had time (warranty).

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. the contact stated that while the vehicle was operating, an abnormal ticking noise came from the front hood of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was undecided if the exact part was the piston and the lower racket arm that needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,388. updated 06/22/17*lj

A whirring/whining noise from transmission/drive shaft area when driving above 20 m.p.h., going straight ahead' on smooth pavement. i just purchased this car from a kia dealer and a search does not show that nhtsa action # pe11010 was ever done. campaign id# is11v258000. please advise as soon as possible.

The transmission is banging even when not shifting. i was driving and heard a bang and a jolt, i thought i hit something, but there was nothing around me. it's starting to happen more often. i think there's something wrong with the transmission. i looked online and found a bunch of complaints for the same thing. i don't feel i should have to pay for a defective transmission when it appears it's a common problem.

I was informed brake lights were not illuminating. electric stability control idiot light showed up on dashboard right before being informed. car is also not shifting into park or reverse. drive gear seems ok.

Transmission is stuck in 4th gear while driving i can go in reverse and forward but when i go forward it is stuck in 4th. *tr

Vehicle started grinding with no prior issues at a stop sign. would not move at all. towed to mechanic and was told that the intermediate shaft had broken. found previous recalls for this exact problem on other 2011 kia sorento 2 wheel drive 4 cylinder models, the exact same make, model, and year as our own. called kia and was informed that there was indeed a recall, however it was not in effect for my vin. the same model, year, everything. just not my vin. very expensive repair that will likely require the replacement of the transmission. kia is aware of a problem with these intermediate shafts and is not properly repairing thousands of vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 kia sorento. while attempting to shift the vehicle into any gear, a loud popping noise could be heard from the front passenger side of the vehicle. when the brake pedal was released, the vehicle would not move forward and rolled backwards. the contact mentioned that the vehicle had to be turned off and restarted in order to resume normal operation. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v258000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 79,000.
