Takata recall kia sorento 2011 my driver side and back passenger doors don't open from the outside when not in motion or in motion. my air bag light is on as well. i called kia and they want to charge me $500.00 dollars for a diagnostic because i am over my warranty. i tried contacting the kia's headquarter and all i get is a recording. this illegal and its extremely dangerous if i get into a car accident. i have children as well. what can i do to get kia to fix this matter. i when on the website and read several complaints with the same problem. why is this matter not a recall. kia is putting peoples life in danger. i need my doors fixed. i have to climb through the right passenger car turn on the car bring the window down and then walk around and open from the inside. this is ridiculous. kia should not be charging owners of there vehicle for this since its a safety matter. please what can i do to get this matter fixed as soon as possible?
My drivers side door won't open from the outside. i can hear it when it lock and unlock but it will not open. i tried to use the key and it still would not open. i have to go around to the passenger side door and open it from the inside. this really worries me. the "what if" is concerning. to me, this is a safety concern if i am in an accident and the emergency persons can not get my door open to go me out. or to have my grandson stuck in the car and me not be able to get him out. i called my kia repair shop today and was told to bring it in as soon as possible. i'm curious to see what the issue is and what they plan to do about it. i only have about 61k miles on this vehicle and no extended warranty. hence, another concern. kia dealers should take responsibility for this issue and repair what is causing our doors to not open. we can not wait until someone dies.
The drivers door would not open. now the drivers side, passenger door won't open from outside and inside. posing a hazard, because first responders will not be able to open the door due to a reoccuring defect. many other consumers report this in blogs and forums so this is kia's problem to fix and make a recall.
Drivers side door on 2011 kia sorento will not open from the outside. inside still works, can hear lock/un-lock but seems like outside latch is stuck in the lock position. have to either crawl through the car or reach in the window and open from inside. still have extended warranty on car (82,000 miles) but was still going to cost me $200 to fix it. why am i paying $200 to fix a handle on a car that is well under warranty. this is a safety issue considering if i get in an accident it hinders the first responders ability to get to me. from what i've read this is an issue a lot of people are having. kia needs to issue a recall and fix it.
The drivers door would not open from outside. this accrued when i return to my car in half an hour. this is posing a hazard due to inability of first respondents to open door, if this happens again. i had my kia dealer repair it. it did not fall under any warranty, the failure millage 99,000. however, due to many complains of this exact problem from other owners, i think kia should be responsible for replacing latches and making a recall.
Both doors locked on left side. can not enter care on left side. running or not. i'm locked out. air bag light has been on while under warranty at time i ask them to fix it. still not fixed.

I have had several issues with the doors. it started with my front drivers door and now it is the back passenger door. you cannot open the door from the outside and you have to take the door apart to fix it. however, i can't open my back door at all because my child safety lock is on, so i cannot open it from the inside like i do with my drivers door. i am unable to get my kids in or out of the car, without having to put them all in through one door and over car seats. i am not the only one who has had this problem. several people have. here is the link to the complaints http://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t37046_ds615605. if there was ever and emergency i would not be able to get my children out in a timely manner.
Subject: kia sorento 2011 door latch problem comments: when my 2011 kia sorento driver's door latch could not be opened from the outside (but works using the inside latch), i at first thought it was an unusual problem, probably a broken plastic part or a bent rod, etc. but after researching this problem on the internet, i see there are hundreds of owners who have had the same problem, some one door at a time until all four doors break. apparently, kia maintains this is not a safety problem, nor is there any extended warranty protection. this position is simply not true, as evidenced by comments from owners concerning exiting the vehicle under emergency conditions such as fire, accidents, immersion in water, etc. some owners mentioned extra difficulty when transporting young children, etc. the only viable solution other than paying unreasonable charges to have the door lock assemblies repaired by kia, which appear to average $400-$500 per door is for a recall to be issued, requiring dealer repair at no customer expense. i understand some of the latest models have door lock mechanisms which have been re-engineered to eliminate this problem, which does nothing to help those owners who will be driving the earlier models far into the future. there certainly seems to be a great enough number of vehicles with this recurring problem to at least warrant a careful investigation by your agency, not concentrating on the frustration experienced by affected owners, but instead seriously considering all the possible safety concerns raised thus far. a death by fire or drowning caused by a seat belt problem is no more important than one caused by a defective door opening mechanism.
One of the 2011 kia sorento door handles not working since 09/11/2015 and now the other driver side door handle stopped working since 04/18/2015. this is really frustrating, as i could open the door from inside but not from outside. i have two small kids, one infant and one 5 year old and i have to sneak one of them into the other door to open my driver side door. i am really frightened if what will happen if the child door is locked my infant is in the car seat and i am not able to go inside my car. this is a potential hazard for my infant child. kia has to really step forward and replace this faulty mechanism. the cost my kia dealer estimates is 225/- per door, so it will end up in 450/- bucks for me and also the rep at kia dealer told me to go ahead and change all four door parts as the original parts used by kia is really cheap and its of plastic. so it will cost me around 900/- to fix my doors. i urge the kia company to really fix this asap before someone gets hurt and/or result into fatality.
A couple of months ago the passanger side door gave out, i can't open it from the outside, closely after the back driver side door did same thing . now today my drivers side door and trunk won't open . i have one door that opens from the outside , i have to climb over or leave a window open to get into my car. why hasn't there been a recall , this is so unsafe for us and our children. i loved my kia now i'm starting to think it was a bad purchase. i took my car to kia and was quoted $900 to fix two doors , i was told it was the actuator.
All power doors are unlocked, but front driver side door can not be opened from outside. it can be opened from inside. door handle, door latch and actuator seems working ok. it is a safety concern as door cannot be opened from outside even as doors are unclocked.

Purchased a kia certified used 2011 sorento with only 49,000 miles. after 2 months today went to the garage to get in the car and the driver door handle no longer works from the outside. apparently this is common based on the complaints. am taking it to the dealer in a few days to see if they can address this issue.
Air conditioner makes a clicking noise when put on max. it will eventually stop, but it does it everytime i turn on the a/c or change from max to another setting and then back to max.

Door actuator in passenger front is not working. the door does not unlock or open from the outside. apparently this is a wide spread issue among 2011 kia sorenta owner due to plastic parts. i don't understand why this is not a safety issue. if i am in an accident and paramedics would like to retrieve the person from the passenger seat they wouldn't be able to access unless they break the window.
The driver side door will not open from the outside, i feel that this is a safety concern if i were in a wreck & they wouldn't be able to get a person out due to the door not being able to open from the outside.
On 1-31-16 heard a pinging noise on the highway; then the car stalled at the exit light; started it again and loud bang blow a rod after getting back on the highway to drive it to a shop. died on the side of the highway and had to have it towed to kia in auburn wa. kia stated they will not fix under the warranty because the wrong oil filter was installed and i didn't provide proper maintenance; which i took it in each and every time for oil changes to my auto shop. same oil filter has been put into my car since 2011. went back to my auto shop informed them they started the process of sending the oil filter in to be checked for defects, also found on 3 different web sites the filter can be used for my make and model. now kia want fix my car; it has been 3 weeks without a vehicle and no word from kia; not even from their headquarters. kia will not provide the work order stating they are not allowed to give to third party.
The driver's side door will not open from the outside. this happened while the car was stationary. i got out of the car in a parking lot and the door was working fine. came back 5 minutes later and it no longer works. same issue with the rear driver's side door. cannot open it from the outside or the inside since the child safety lock is engaged. it is incredibly unsafe to not be able to get into the car in an emergency not to mention the inconvenience of having to climb through from the passenger side. the dealership wants $660 to fix the problem. i think that is ridiculous and from what i've read it sounds like many other people are having the same issue.
I have recently submitted a complaint about the doors of my vehicle. i called kia of america spoke to consumer affairs rep. as we are going back and forth about the safety issues. i went to the dealer today he set it up. both door latches are broken. they were unable to do one of the recalls because but, all sorento owners must call them to get this fixed. i am out of warranty for everything this is a kia problem you must notify them. the more complaints the better off or safer we will all be. remember if you get into an accident they can not get you out unless they break glass.
When out to my kia and i hit the unlock button. attempted to open the front passenger door. didn't open, so i hit the unlock again, still wouldn't open. so i walked around and opened the drivers side and reached over, the door opened. this is the first time for this door. but i've had this happen to me to the rear drive side door and had to have the door handle replaced. the kia was sitting in the driveway not running and that door doesn't have near as much use as some of the others. also the back seat on the passenger side won't go down. i am assuming the cable is broke. again this was not used much since i got the kia almost 4 years ago. i think i used this feature 2 times and it wouldn't work after that.
Door locks will not open front doors. driving snow and rain, i have to get in the back seat climb over to open front doors. the key does not work either. i find it hard to feel safe in this vehicle if i get into an accident you can not open door from outside. when this happened two children in car safety locks on., close my door to assist them out can't get back into vehicle. remote will not activate locks key will not open front doors so i can get in. had to climb in rear hatch.
I now have 3 out of 4 doors that can not be opened from the outside. the only door that can be opened is the right rear door. kia says they do not have an issue with them when there obviously is one. the estimated repair cost from dealer is $400 a piece. that is criminal.

Passenger door will not open from the inside or outside. dealer said it is not a recall and it is not under warranty. originally they said it would cost $500.00 to take the door apart and fix the problem, but ended by saying they would discount the cost down to $150.00. don't know if this is true yet because i am waiting on the part, but i am angry because i have never had a car do this before. it is obviously a manufacturers defect and they should take full responsibility for it. i have to get it fixed because it is a safety hazard. and now that i see other people are having the same problem i am furious!
Driver's side door will not open - opens fine from the inside but not the outside. door latch is not broken - just stopped opening the door. apparently this is not an isolated event - many folks having the same safety issue. some owner's with multiple doors having this issue although it seems the driver side is the most common. i would take a photo but again, the lock looks fine and is not broken. just stopped working last week. went to class at irsc and the door worked fine. came out to go home and it would not open the door. no one tried to break in - again, the latch looks fine, not damaged just quit opening the door. there is only one other door with a key entry so if it stops opening the door i will not be able to get in the vehicle and will be stuck in the parking lot, at night. what if it starts not opening from the inside and i cannot get out of the vehicle without busting a window? seriously, this is a safety issue that is not isolated - pages of complaints. please help a college gal out.
The driver's side door will not open from the outside. there is no damage to the handle, and there was no incident to cause it to break and not open. apparently the door lock actuator (inside the door compartment) is broken. sounds like a common complaint.

Takata recall front passager door can not open from outside and passger side door on driver side can not open from outside or inside. this is very dangerous if anyone of the passagers need to get out for what ever the reason in an emergency. how can you buy a car and not be able to get in or out of it. please this needs to be fixed and not at my expence.
Vibration, knocking and thumbing noise in the rear passenger's side and both front wheels. dealer verified thumbing noise as left lower ball joint was loose,replaced both ball joint. vibration, knocking and thumbing noise continues. returned to dealer. dealer replaced rear motor mount. problems still remains. i phoned dealer, stating vibration, knocking and thumbing still remains including additional problems. in addition to the vibration, knocking and thumbing noises... inside the car, underneath dashboard (glove compartment) causing huge amount of water on the passenger's side floor.
My back door will not open from the inside or outside and is a common problem in the kia sorento model. replacing the handles will not fix the problem as the dealer must pull apart the entire door panel. a third party body shop was not able to fix the problem. not being able to exit a vehicle, and not knowing if other doors will be affected in the future, is a safety hazard for me and my children.

I was in the process of pulling the handle of the door and the handle snapped clean off the door. it made it very difficult to reach my son because the doors child safety lock was activated.

Can't open doors using exterior handles on 3 of the four doors, only able to open from inside. locks work fine. the three doors that don't work are the driver door, front passenger, and rear door on driver side. this suv is only 4 years old. this should not be happening on a vehicle less than 5 years old.
I have experienced several problems with the 2011 kia sorento. the left driver?s door had lock malfunctions and now the right door is doing the same thing not allowing passengers to open the door. i have taken the vehicle in several times with concerns of a knocking sound on the right front. i think the right shock absorber on the vehicle is gone, but the service technician indicates that they can?t hear anything when driving it. an alignment was completed last month but the vehicle has a rough ride and i am still hearing the knocking sound. i noticed yesterday that there is a humming sound when the car would accelerate and the acceleration is slow. needless to say the warranty has expired and when i asked the dealership about purchasing an extended warranty i was given the run around. *js
The interior dome light quit working took to a mechanic, he looked into the wiring harness and said that all the wires had melted together. this problem could affect all the electrical parts of the truck. also of note is that the truck indicator light showing that the truck is open, even when its not. so far no fire has started. cost to fix per the mechanic is over $1000, or more.
I was driving my 2011 kia sorento on the expressway doing 75 mph when i heard a loud explosion. i thought someone's engine exploded, but then i saw glass flying behind my car and heard a loud windy whooshing above me. i realized it was my panoramic sunroof. thankfully my sunshade was closed and no glass fell on me. i was in the middle of a bad neighborhood and didn't feel safe pulling over so i drove to the first place i did feel safe. by the time i got there, the whole glass top above the drivers section was completely gone. there was no apparent reason for the implosion. there were no other cars in the vicinity, weather was clear, and it is a new freeway and i was not going under a bridge. i feel this is a defect in the glass or engineering of the sunroof.

Driver's side door handle just stopped working one day. it can be opened from the inside, but not the outside. this is a safety hazard in relation to if there is an accident and i cannot get myself free, no one from the outside can get me out either. this is not the first report of a door handle not working on this brand of suv model.
A bang/thud happens when gas is applied. sound appears to be coming from left front engine area. customer service rep rode with me back in 2013, heard sound, but later stated it was "normal". invoice states no problem found. the car was recently taken back to the same dealership for the same issue, only its louder now, with no solution. i am getting more frustrated. there is clearly something wrong with this vehicle. i plan to try another dealership.
When i press on or let off of the brake there is a popping noise. my ex also has a 2012 sorento and hers does the same.
I bought my car in 2011 by 2013 the rear passenger door does not open at all, driver side wont open from out side. then 2014 abs light on, controls on steering wheel for phone, cruise and volume don't work. shifting to park or drive isn't catching all the time, and door locks click open & close randomly. i do not feel safe driving my car.
The intermediate shaft may suffer from noise and excessive wear due to a misalignment of the intermediate shaft with the right side output gear. continuing to drive the vehicle in this condition leads to the development of a whirring/whining noise and can eventually cause damage to the automatic transmission. i am getting the same but the kia dealers are telling me that there is not a recall on my vehicle as mine is an awd. when starting out a hesitation is felt when putting in drive and when going down the highway a whirring noise is heard and it feels like a vibration is coming from the center of the car. *js
Car will not start with key or remotely control. after car sits for a time, several hours or days, it may start. car has shut off by itself and will not start ... had to be towed several times. seems to have a computer system malfunction that dealer cannot repair.
Driving home on rainy day when sunroof shattered out of nowhere. did not run off the road nor did i hear anything hit the vehicle. i heard one loud pop and noticed sunroof visor sagging significantly. cannot prove something didn't hit it, but did not find any evidence of something hitting the sunroof. contacted kia to see if any other cases had been reported with kia representative stating that she did not believe there is anything wrong with their vehicles, but she also stated that she did not have the resources to look back and see if there was another report. she also declined to let me speak with her supervisor on this matter. due to safety purposes, i believe kia needs to look into this possible issue. if this has happened to anyone else, please contact kia and nhsta in order to help correct this possible problem. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt
