SIDE/WINDOW 1

Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2006 Kia Sedona

Air bag light came on in dash and will not go off, kia said was problem in one of seat belt sensors, 500.00 to fix. this is a common problem and should be under recall for safety issue.

Airbag light on without crash or defect in well maintained auto. apparently this totally inactivates all airbags. multiple similar complaints in nhtsa system. needs to be recall, since most owners are unable to afford dealer repairs to this defective system on this model car. often attributed to defective seatbelt sensors. hopefully no one will die because of this problem, and kia usa should pay to repair this known defect! *tr

The air bag warning light was on when i put a bag on the passenger seat. i have checked on internet that the air bags won't be deployed when the warning light is on. i think this is a big safety issue and kia has a defective product of either air bag sensor or something else. kia should take responsibility to fix the problem on its own cost. the cost of fixing this problem would be over $1500. this should absolutely be a recall issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning light remained illuminated when the passenger's seat was occupied and the passenger's seat belt was being utilized. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the passenger side air bag sensor was connected to the seat belt, in which the seat belt needed to be replaced. the dealer advised the contact that the passenger side air bag could deploy at any time without warning. the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 63,000. updated 1/15/13 *cn the consumer was quoted a price of $ 250 for a new seat belt. updated 01/22/13

The "air bag" warning light came on and the vehicle manual indicated we should take it to a dealer asap. the dealer indicated that none of the air bags in the vehicle would deploy when this "air bag" light is on. the dealer also indicated that there had been many problems with the kia sedona air bag sensors located under the driver's seat. they recalibrated the sensors at a cost of $194 and the light went off. however, they indicated that the sensors were "still vacillating" and that if this air bag light came on again the sensors under the seat would need to be replaced (at a cost of approximately $1500). i went on line and found many other kia owners who have had the same problem. this is a serious safety issue and, in my opinion, there should be a recall to fix these defective sensors. *tr

Shortly after warranty expired (early 2012), the air bag light went on our kia sedona. i took the van to our local kia dealer to check and they told me that it was the weight classification seat sensor assembly (part 88610 - $1399.75 at that time) that had to be replaced. after labor cost and taxes it would be $2022!! kia was having some recalls around that time, but none to address this issue. the main reason we bought this van for our family was because of high safety ratings involving all the airbags. now we are driving without airbags and praying for extra angels around the van when we have to go on the highway. we would like to take long road trips, but that seems too dangerous without airbags. please investigate and you will find out it is a common issue with this make and model. kia needs to step it up and fix this issue; lives are at stake. thank you!

My airbag light came on & i called my local kia dealer. they told me to make sure nothing was under seats because that could cause it. there was nothing under the seats, however about 25 miles later (when i arrived at work) the light went off. the next day the light came back on & has not gone off since. there are so many complaints about this same thing on this make and model, this should be a recall. it is a safety issue & i shouldn't have to pay $2000 of my money to fix kia's shortfall!!! *tr

My wife was driving our 2006 kia sedona ex approximately 40 mph when she was in a collision where she rear ended another vehicle. the driver's side airbag did not deploy. luckily no one was injured, but we are unsure why, at such a speed, no airbags went off. *tr

Our 2006 kia sedona airbag light on the dashboard came on. a kia dealer diagnostic revealed a $1,850 repair costs to replace the airbag seat sensors. the airbags will not deploy until repaired. our sedona has 47,485 miles; 2 months past the warranty. the vehicle has never been in an accident and has been well maintained . this is a safety defect issue and should be covered by kia as a recall; not a warranty issue. we bought this for our family, we have two little children and it scares me to have them in the car. *tr

Red air bag light is on. this has happened previously and was reset. i believe that this is a safety issue and should be on the recall list. there are other complaints about the similar problem . *tr

Air bag warning light came on mar 3 rd 2011,stays on. dealer wants replacement of passenger side cushion for $1800.00. major, major safety issue manufacturers responsibility to fix safety issue. *tr

2006 kia sedona. consumer writes regarding air bag light illuminating. *tgw the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and the result of the diagnosis came back as one frontal and one rear crash sensor had corroded and malfunctioned, and also the passenger seat air bag switch malfunctioned. after resetting the diagnostic codes, the technician turned the vehicle on and the same faults registered. *jb

Our 2006 kia sedona airbag light on the driver?s dashboard came on. a kia dealer diagnostic revealed a $1,900.00 in repair costs to replace the airbag seat sensors. the airbags will not deploy until repaired. our sedona has 61,000 miles; 1,000 beyond the 60,000 warranty. this renders the safety rating of the kia sedona useless until repaired and endangers the lives for our precious children to ride in this vehicle. the vehicle has never been in an accident and has been well maintained rigorously following all manufacturer maintenance. this is a safety defect issue and should be covered by kia as a recall; not a warranty issue. kia corporate declined to cover the costs. the number one reason we purchased the 2006 kia sedona was the safety rating. now we are stuck with our precious two little children far from home with a safety dilemma rendered by a manufacture defect that kia will not acknowledge. this has put a young family in a dilemma of how to safely transport our children home and how to pay for a manufacturer defect that is beyond our means. this very same issue has been reported by other owners: http://www.2carpros.com/questions/kia-sedona-2006-kia-sedona-air-bag-light-red. please help kia realize this is a safety issue and is only 1,000 miles out of warranty anyway. not only is this bad public relations for a company for not standing behind their safety rating, it is dangerous to put lives at risk. please make this a recall issue. thank you! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that he would need to replace the front passenger air bag sensor because in a crash they would not deploy. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Problems: air bag light on again. has been repaired by dealer several times. ac does not blow cold continually and has been repaired several times. new compressor, additional freon, etc. horn malfunctioning again. transmission problem - the vehicle "bangs or slams" when you come down a hill to a stop. when slowing down to a stop light it actually has a surge or acceleration. this vehicle only has 64000 on it and the brakes have been serviced several times (front and rear). now when i am driving i get a terrible grinding feeling - and at a higher speed on the highway when you go to slow down faster it vibrates terribly. also the braking is terrible at higher speeds. also had problems with the actuator repair/replaced several times, horn not sounding properly, air bag light (repaired several times), cruise control issues (won't maintain speed - accelerates or decelerates), battery or electrical issues (told to replace battery which i did & paid for), headlight issues (have replaced lights several times), vibration on highway (new tires and tires have been rebalanced. alignment done). after reviewing multiple websites on kia reviews, these above items are very common experiences for kia sedona owners. i wanted to make you aware of these items since i feel that if consumers do not notify the authorities nothing will be corrected or known. i have really noticed in the last few months, almost immediately after passing the warranty mark, the vehicle has taken a turn for the worse and problems seem to be escalating. *tr

The electrical system has shorts and harness issues all over. you had a recent recall, but not involving 2006 sedonas only 2007. our vehicle has same issue as found in the recent recall. the airbag light is on and i have never had an accident. the lighting is also affected due to the wiring harness. i have one blinker i constantly replace and same with one front head lamp. i have seen other complaints of the same thing with the same exact vehicle. *tr

2006 kia sedona. horn failed to operate. clockspring and hi horn found to be defective and replaced by dealer. *tr

Air bag light came on - turned out to be a very expensive replacement of the air bag module. i have talked to other people who have the same problem with the kia sedona - same year. air bags apparently don't work if the light comes on. *tr

The cars airbag light came on and i was never involved in a collision or anything. i have not taken it to the shop yet because of lack of funds. *tr

2006 kia sedona mini-van with ongoing air bag system failure issues. the 'passenger airbag off' light is lit when more than an 80# person is sitting in the front passenger seat indicating that the airbag is turned off. at times the airbag system indicator light is lit as well which is indicative of an entire airbag system failure according to kia's maintenance manual that came with the vehicle. this has been ongoing for 3 years and has been taken to the shop numerous times with results of: i was told, "you had your purse and a book on the front seat and that messes with the seat sensor", replacement of the computer, replacement of the front passenger seat, i was told, "we didn't plug the seat sensor back in all the way", and etc. the car has had multiple other issues but this one is by far the largest safety issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. also, the passenger side air bag warning light illuminated when a passenger above eighty pounds was seated in the seat. the dealer replaced the passenger side seat as well as the computer; however, the air bag warning light continued to illuminate. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the current mileage was 47,000. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 kia sedona. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle struck a diesel truck. the air bags failed to deploy. the front driver side of the vehicle was damaged. the driver's head went through the windshield. the passenger had glass in her head and was unconscious. the vehicle was destroyed. there was snow on the ground before the crash occurred. a police report was filed. the current and failure mileages were 28,000.

2006 kia sedona with serious safety issues. passenger sliding door opens while driving, opens and closes and will not close all the way. starter was replaced. air bag light was looked at. consumer says there are more problems. *kb the rotors had to be replaced due them being out of round. several parts within the door were replaced such as the cable and door switch assembly and door latch assembly. the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. the rear sensors and rear caliper brake hose needed to be repaired.*jb

New 2006, a few months after he bought the van, someone hit me in the rear on the stop light and the airbags never activated, the repair shop said it had no rear air bags, that is why do not active system. 2014 light "airbag" is lit and remains so since then, the dealer charges a fortune only to diagnose, 2014 i had an freeway accident, to prevent a truck hit me flywheel onto the shoulder, hitting the fence right boundedness and ending with the wall head-on collision in central divider ... of course "airbags" never worked

On may 13, 2006 i purchased a 2006 kia sedona van from a local dealership. on september 22, 2006, october 11, 2006, january 3, 2007, and january 18, 2007 had this vehicle to dealer for service due to the air bag light coming on while driving and staying on. during the first occasion the light was reset as the service technician could not find a problem. on the second occasion a code appeared, but no parts were ordered since the code could not be diagnosed. the light was again reset, and the van sent back to me. on the third occasion two codes appeared, part were ordered, but it was still unclear of the problem. again the service department reset the air bag light and said they would call when the parts arrived. after not hearing from anyone, i called the dealership taylor kia, and they told me they were sorry for not contacting me, and i could bring the van in on january 18, 2007. on that occasion, a part was replaced, a leg assembly. i was told that the light issue should be fixed. on may 10, 2007, my wife was driving with my 15 year old daughter in the front passenger seat. they were hit in the driver side by a vehicle traveling about 50 mph. the front driver, and passenger air bags deployed. the side air bags did not deploy, and upon impact the seat belts released, instead of locking, with no retraction. this cause my wife and daughter to be thrown around in the front of the vehicle. according to the van's manual, the air bags, and seat belts should work together. the fact that the seat belts released could have allowed for either the driver or the passenger to be ejected. i am afraid to drive this van again as we have five children total. this was a big safety concern. we have reported this issue to taylor kia, toledo, ohio, four times. i am now unsure if the problem was ever corrected. i am also positive no repair made to the van will ever convince me that all safety equiptment is functioning on this particular van. *ak

After i got this mini van the air bag warning light never worked right, some time the passenger air bag light would stay on and sometimes it went off, did not mater if someone was sitting there or not. dealer told me they could not find an issue with it. now the light stays on and will not go out. i was told that the air bags will not work when the light is on. this is a major safety issue. *tr

I purchased a 2006 kia sedona in august, 2006. on 08-14-2006 it was returned for malfunction of the airbag system, repairs were made. i also stated to them that it was pulling to the left, which to this day they have not corrected. on 11-13-2006 at approx. 3,300 miles the engine light came on, the van began to sputter and cut out. it was towed to the dealer( misfire in cyclinder)and repairs were made. the van was returned to the dealer again on 01-03-2007(scanned system, could not find code),01-18-2007(multiple misfires),02-08-2007(random misfires. also repaired shorted out hot wire to driver's side parking light),04-09-2007(they stated that the gas cap was loose, even though the van is skipping),04-12-2007 (random misfires). after sending a final repair attempt letter to kia they picked my vehicle up on 04-23-2007 and brought techs in from california to assess the problem. i was going to pick my van up on thursday 04-26-2007 but kia called and stated that after they test drove it the engine light once again came on. they stated that they hope to have it resolved on 04-27-2007. on 04-27-2007 they hope to have it resolved on 04-30-2007. on 04-30-2007 they hope to have it resolved on 05-01-2007. on 05-01-2007 they stated that they would be pulling out the drive train to ship to california and in turn kia/california would be shipping a new one. now they hope to have it resolved on friday, may 4, 2007. i have major safety concerns/issues regarding this vehicle. there is obviously severe electrical/mechanical problems and this vehicle is not stable/safe enough to be roadworthy. the people at the dealership are wonderful and understanding to my concerns, however kia motors of america does not seem to address the safety issues as a concern. i am still pursuing this issues between myself and kia, but this is way too much hassle to go through to try to keep myself, my family and other motorist safe against this vehicle being on the road. *tr
