Oil light began to flicker, right before the engine began making horrible grinding noises. engine blew shortly after. vehicle was up to date on normal scheduled maintenance.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. the contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle made an abnormal noise without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (dennis eakin kia 5200 e central texas expy, killeen, tx 76543) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a oil change. the vehicle was not repaired but the failure reoccurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
I have a 2015 kia optima with 74,000 miles. as i was driving my vehicle on a city street when suddenly it started shaking and released black smoke prior to engine failure. a vehicle behind me had to brake and swerve to miss hitting me. this incident occurred on january 10, 2020. i received a diagnosis from the dealership confirming the vehicle had engine failure due to knock sensor and compression issues. also stated that the head gasket is damaged. i contacted kia and initially they stated if the engine failure was due to a knock sensor issue, it would be covered. after waiting nearly 20 days kia is stating that my vehicle is out of warranty. any advice on remedies or what could be done to have my vehicle fixed is greatly appreciated.
Vehicle was in motion on a busy highway when this happened. i would hit the gas and the car would try to stall, it did stall on several occasions. the car would jerk and the engine would start knocking.
I was driving on the highway when my car stopped without any warning. i got it towed to a repair shop. it started back up and running but was making a weird noise coming from the engine. i drove the car home and took it to a repair shop to get a diagnostic check and the engine oil was very thick. i just had an oil change 2 month ago. i have only 104.000 miles on the car and i took very good care of the car.
My son was driving the car , when he had to pull over and realize the smoke coming from the hood. when he opened the hood the engine was on fire. this cat was just recently purchased 3weeks prior to the engine catching on fire. the car was purchased through paulding chrysler dealership. a down payment was made towards the purchase
I started having issues with my vehicle in october 2019, i tried to reach out to kia dealerships, with no help. i kept being told there were no recalls on my car and that i did not need to be concerned. my car finally stopped working, it just would not drive. it was jumping from 0-7000 rpms and then flying forward before it stopped working altogether. around the moment it stopped driving it started smoking and i just pulled over and turned it off and then it wouldn't even go into neutral for a tow truck. i placed a brand new transmission into my car even while making a car payment on it on november 23rd 2019, it is now december 11, 2019 and i have only driven it 302 miles and i am having the same issues on it. when i call kia i am told that there isn't anything they can do to fix the vehicle and that i need to have it diagnosed again for a charge of 170.00. i am now way upside down on the vehicle and am continuing to have issue after issue with it. i do not recommend this car. i have two small children and i have to have a vehicle but i will not keep paying to have things fixed that should not be an issue on a less than five year old car!!!!!
Sudden engine knock and sudden engine failure while vehicle was in motion in front of a high school. this incident requires engine replacement.
I wanted to add more information to my complaint. when in motion in front of high school car went into limp mode with knocking noise coming from engine. my husband is a mechanic and discovered metal flakes inside engine. i was never notified of any recalls involving the engine. now i have to purchase a new or remanufactured engine costing estimated $3000 to $4500 not including core charges and shipping fees.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. the contact noticed a knocking noise coming from the engine. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine); however, the failures were similar. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate, shuddered, lost power, and shut off without warning. also, an abnormal burning odor was detected. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000.
As i was driving on the interstate 3 vehicles passed waving frantically before speeding by. i noticed a reflective orange flicker along the base each vehicle. this was followed up by a loud knocking sound before i lost all accelerating power but retained rpm revs as i pressed the pedal. i allowed the momentum to get me as far up the exit ramp as possible prior to pulling over onto the grass. i placed the car in park and turned it off to be met with an instant roll of smoke up the front windshield, out of the front grill, and from the passenger side tire area. i exited the vehicle to the sound of liquid hitting a hot surface and hissing. i stepped away from the vehicle and looked underneath to be met with rolls of fire dripping to the ground from beneath the engine and along the bottom center of the undercarriage of the car. i immediately cleared the area and my vehicle was complete engulfed in flames in less than 4 minutes. no sensors or alarms notified me of any type of malfunction.
While i was driving the lights on my dashboard came on and the car began to lose power/speed and then the car stopped and i was unable to restart the engine and some minor smoke and weird smell
Half of the engine was replaced in july 2019. now burns oil like crazy. on october 29th 2019 while driving at about 40 mph the entire electrical system shut off leaving me with no power steering. i was able to get off the road safely and call for a tow. i am second owner so warranty is out by about 2,600 miles. dealer had i for a week at one point they said it was fixed when they were pulling it around front for me it stopped.
While driving on the highway, had to slow down for a vehicle in front of me. after this i tried to accelerate the vehicle, it was not responding and all the dashboard lights came on. now the vehicle started slowing down and luckily it lasted until the exit and i had to stop on the ramp and get my vehicle towed to the nearby mechanic.
When driving down the highway after tappin my breaks to slow down, when we went to accelerate to the speed again my car started flashing the check engine light and wouldn't go over 2000 rpms. now in a limp mode. got the vehicle home and sure enough there is metal in my engine.
When taking off at a stop light or getting onto the interstate (basically when accelerating) the car feels like it has no power. you can hear a weird noise and sometimes you will smell burnt oil or something burnt. also, i had a recent oil change and within the month i had to add oil again. there is no sign on my driveway that there is a leak. please look into this as there are multiple people with the same issues.

While driving car shut off. started smoking and now will not start
Burning oil, engine went into limp mode in traffic, car won't run
Nearing 60,000 miles, the car started to make a weird engine noise. the kia dealership found that the connecting rod was bad and the engine needed replaced. this issue is very well know and widespread. the kia dealership informed me that the engine could catch fire, should the engine blow. the dealership felt that it was a manufacture issue but kia corp. declined to replace the engine, which is the only option available to repair the issue. the reason given was that the oil was not at the recommend level. i had the oil changed last summer and there was no indication that the oil was low; no service light or oil level light. to avoid putting my 6yr. old at risk, i had to choose to pay $5500 to have the engine replaced. this is a large amount of money that effects my child's day-to-day. i have also come to learn that the engine installed is re-manufactured and only has a 12-month warranty. despite kia's reasoning, this issue seems to be far too common for hyundai/kia owners, plus they have already issued a recall for older models with the same engine. at the very least, the re-manufactured engines should carry a longer warranty.
My car has onky 64804 miles and my engine is lock
2015 kia optima turbo.. i was entering the highway and was attempting to accelerate to merge with on coming traffic on the highway. in doing so, i realized my vehicle was not accelerating and when i looked down, all of the indicator lights were on on the dashboard. i managed to pull over to the shoulder just making it out of the lane of approaching traffic. once on the shoulder, i placed my car in park turned everything off and tried to restart it. i then saw and smelled smoke coming from under the hood of my car. frigthtened that it might catch fire, i turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and tried to start it again. again there was smoke coming from under the hood. i then called for a wrecker. had the vehicle towed to kia dealership that same day. did not find out until the following tuesday that the engine was locked up and they were waiting to see if kia was going to approve replacing the engine. was told i should hear something by tomorrow. still waiting to hear back. details to follow.
My car is knocking and wont go over like 35mph without shaking and knocking sounds.
While driving back from lake havasu to seal beach(over 308 miles away); 100 miles in towards destination, my car suddenly was stalled; loosing complete power of even pressing the signal light or emergency light. i still had 206 miles left to destination. stuck in the middle of nowhere, no air, no power to lower the windows and heat quickly rising to 100 degrees and trying to get back phone reception to call in for towing service. i was then able to get through to aaa. i was informed that i was over 60 miles from needles and 78 miles away from barstow and aaa could not find a tow truck that could be there less than 2 hours from the time i called, (total wait was 2 1/2 hrs) after going through 2 tow trucks and getting to kia motors in cerritos; i was told the following day that the motor needed to be replaced. i asked whether they had a recall on this issue and service tech did not want to admit they had one. i stated to him that i was informed by a mechanic and confirming through your web site that they did have a recall since january of this year. service rep then confessed they did. kia is waiting 2-4 weeks for motor to arrive. i currently have been provided a rental, which kia now has taken responsibility in paying for it. i will inform everyone on how this claim goes, once the repairs are completed
Driving to work and accelerated to 60 and then suddenly all the dashboard lights started blinking and then it would not accelerate, even if i pressed on the gas. pulled over and turned off the car. i tried turning it back on after a minute and was unable too. had to get the car towed to the dealership which reported that the engine blew do the bearings, which seems to be a recall issue
On june 26 2019 i contacted monroeville kia due to my car smoking when accelerating, i advised them it felt as if we're trying to stall. they scheduled me an appt july 9,2019. i dropped my car off and a few hours later they called and said everything was and the did some sort of engine software upgrade but found no issues. i drove off the lot and started experiencing the same issue only now i could feel the engine shaking. i contacted the dealership i purchased it from which was century 3 kia. the scheduled me for july 23, i dropped the car off and several hours later they called and said i need a new engine. they denied the claim saying it wad due to maintenance however i produced oil change receipts. the software upgrade that they did is software to detect the engine failure. they are aware it's a known issue but are not recalling their vehicles and are refusing to take responsibly for a defective product that could catch fire
Engine needs replaced. started to knock, on my way home, just driving on the highway. by the time i got to the shop it was barely driveable. told it needs a new engine. there is a recall on 2011 to2014 optima's. mechanic says this engine should be recalled as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and stalled while the check engine blinked. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home despite the engine stalling persistently. the contact drove the vehicle to an auto zone to have the vehicle diagnosed, but they suggested the vehicle be taken to a dealer. the contact took the vehicle to crain kia of sherwood (5830 warden rd, sherwood, ar 72120, 501-436-4852) where it was diagnosed that the knock sensor needed replacement. the failure was associated with nhtsa campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). the contact was driving a loaner vehicle for the past month because the vehicle was still being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 171,000. the vin was unknown.
The knock sensor detection system
Was driving on the freeway at about 55 mph, got in lane 4 to exit the highway when my engine just turned off. i drifted to the side of the highway and tried to restart the engine. when i tried to restart the engine smoke started to come from the engine. towed the vehicle to the dealership where they stated that they would call me with any updates (this was after telling me that it would cost $165 to diagnose). just got the ecu updated approx. 6 months ago. no check engine light or anything popped up on the dash, just got the oil changed 06/15/2019. there are approx. 118k miles.
I was driving my car on the freeway and when the speed hit 60mph the car stalled and alot of smoke came out of the exaust. the card behind me had to slow down. i managed to pull over to the side and the check engine light came on and the car shut off. i turned it on and the check engine light was not on anymore and the car made smoke. i called comunity kia on baytown and they said there was a bad pcv valave that had to be replaced. i paid for it and they replaced it and as i drove off home the car kept doing the same and stalling. i called the dealer and they told me they had to do an oil consumption test. the first test my car was low 2 quarts and they said the car was fine. "it lost 2 quarts but we dont know where its going" i told her it didnt feel safe to drive i didnt want it to catch fire and she said the car was fine. than i drove it 600 miles and the car threw a whole lot more smoke and the engine was knocking and i took it back to the dealer. they said it was fine and the smoke i claimed was coming out was not. that the technicians turned it on and drove it did not see any smoke. i showed up to the dealer and turned it on and smoke came out and pressed on the gas and a huge cloud came out. they told me it was unbelievable. so now they want me to get a new engine and say its because i failed to do the oilchange.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. while the vehicle was in reverse, a knocking noise was heard from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to kia atlanta south (770-968-3400, located at 7310 jonesboro rd, morrow, ga 30260), but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
Takata recall: the engine on my kia optima is making a loud knocking and ticking noise. the vehicle also loses slight power when pressing on the gas pedal. i know there has been numerous complaints from kia owners about the engine making the same noise and they had to have their engines replaced. the vehicle makes the noise either moving or standing still.
I was driving on a highway at approximately 55 mph and the car just stopped. all of the dashboard lights came on. i was able to coast to the side of the road before i got to a busy intersection. towed and mechanic states i need a new engine. i have had this car less than 3 years and bought it brand new. financed for 5 years so i'm really in a bind.
I had just reached my destination. after being parked for approximately 30 - 45 minutes when i tried to crank up to leave. i put it in the drive gear and it would not move forward or backward when put in the reverse gear; then i had it towed. then when attempted to crank it; it caught a fire and destroyed all of the motor, and most of the car before the fire could be extinguished
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph on a freeway in the third lane (far left), the vehicle stalled. the contact coasted to the right shoulder, smoke started to emerge from the engine compartment. the contact opened the hood and a fire started in front of the fire wall. the contact mentioned that when coasting to the right shoulder, he nearly crashed due to the failure. the contact extinguished the fire using a gallon of water that was in the trunk of the vehicle. the police and the fire department were not present. the contact and the front passenger fid not sustain any injuries. the vehicle was towed to the residence by aaa. a dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was then towed then to a repair center where it was determined that a bearing shot through the engine and as a result the engine needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired as of yet and the contact had been driving a rental vehicle in the meantime. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator started to flash. the contact pulled over to the side of the road. the contact called and took the vehicle to kia of west nyack (250 n route 303, white plains, ny 10994) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle had been at the dealer ever since april 22, 2019. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Normal driving operation until knocking heard during low speed. engine knocking grew louder under acceleration. vehicle immediately taken to mechanic who stated an engine rod may be bend. told kia has recall for this issue. kia stated the vehicle vin is not a part of the recall. no heavy acceleration or use of the vehicle in the past. no indication of rod or engine failure.
Engine froze due to lack of oil being pumped
I have a 2015 kia optima purchased in october 2017 with 34k miles approx. i am constantly putting oil in my car and it seems to evaporate in 2-3 days. there is no leak and we have no idea why the car is consuming so much oil. lately the car has been knocking and when accelerating to merge onto highway, the vehicle starts to sputter and begins to stall. i do not feel safe in this vehicle with my children and no longer use this vehicle on a daily basis. after doing some research, i find that this year vehicle has the most overall consumer complaints and there still has yet to be a recall on the engine? i do not understand why kia skipped this year?? let alone blame consumers that it's their fault for not following the maintenance schedule, yet when told the schedule has been followed, will find some other lame excuse so the manufacturer is not at fault. what is it going to take to have this engine recalled? we as consumers, myself, a single hard working parent, do not have the means to buy another vehicle just because kia says it's not their fault. this problem started beginning of april 2019, my vehicle has 52k.
I was traveling east on a 4 lane road at 45 mph. as i was passing thru a green light, a westbound vehicle made an illegal left turn in front of me, causing me to "t-bone" his vehicle. all of his airbags deployed.....none of mine did. the car was repaired, surprisingly; yet i do not feel safe driving it. i sustained cervical and lumbar spine injuries, as well as a severe whiplash and concussion. i am unable to work, due to surgery that was necessary. i just need to know if this car is safe?? i was also in a side collision that was not my fault; two years ago, where someone hit me, and no airbags deployed. at that particular accident,i was stationary; at a stop light.
Sounds like pieces of metal was left in the engine during the time of manufacturing and was never taken out ,the vehicle was still running, i decided to take it to get checked , the device at kia of essington of philadelphia said it was a grinding sound on the bottom end of the engine
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 kia optima. while driving 20 mph, the engine seized. the contact pulled the vehicle over, but it would not restart. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the vehicle was taken to arapahoe kia (9701 e arapahoe rd, centennial, co 80112, (720) 262-9111) where it was diagnosed that a computer update was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000.
On march 7th 2019, i was driving down the highway at approximately 60 miles an hour i felt a click, & my engine light my oil light and my battery light illuminated. my car did not shut off but gas was not able to flow into the engine therefore i was coasting down the highway. i was able to get off on to the exit ramp i pulled over to the side, then i was able to shut my car off. i then began to restart the car, & it did restart i proceeded to put it in drive move forward, but the three lights illuminated once again. this was in the middle of the intersection. i shut the car off again, then, proceeded to restart the car, it restarted and i was able to drive the rest of the way to work, which was a very short distance. later that day i downloaded the uvo app it did a diagnostic test and found nothing wrong with the vehicle., this test was wrong, something went wrong & is wrong. according to past recalls, the engine has seized and similar reports have been made. i found this extremely scary because of the fact i was driving down the highway in medium traffic, my engine stopped the lights came on and i did not know what was going to happen. luckily i was still able to move the steering wheel enough to get off on the exit ramp and to pull to the side. i recently bought this vehicle and i've only had it for 6 months. i have had the oil changed only at the dealership, and any other services have done by the dealer ship. i am afraid to drive the car because of what happened, and what i have read from the past experiences of kia optima owners this has happened to.
Takara recall,i was driving my 2015 kia optima gdi, when suddenly my engine shut off,and then had a hard time starting, then i called towing agency, they jumped it,then my engine started to have a loud knock like sound..then died out again..my oil is always changed regularly, and when this happen it was showing my oil level is good..luckily no one got injured when my vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway
Driving the vehicle no warning signs or lights. engine shuts off. take to a mechanic the motor needs replaced. replace the motor. drive the car for 1 month motor needs replaced again. both times like was empty when routine oil changes were done at 3,000 miles. a car does not burn oil over a 30 day period causing engine failure. a faulty product does. kia should recall the engines in this year as well. the problem obviously is extended past 2014.
Shortly after crossing over train tracks i noticed the car would not accelerate anymore. i looked at the dashboard and observed several lights on and the rpm was at 0. i rolled to a stop and tried to restart the engine several times with no luck. i had the car towed to a local kia dealership and they later told me that the engine failed. they said they are filing a claim with kia to see what they are going to do. i previously got a letter from kia that instructed me to have a dealership update the ecu so that the car goes into "limp home" mode if there is a problem. i have never experienced anything limp. the car was at 101000 miles when the breakdown occurred. hopefully kia replaces the engine.
Driving the car, car just stalled out while driving in traffic. i was literally stalled on a busy road during morning rush hour. had car towed to the local aaa repair center and they said there was no oil in the engine although i get regular oil changes. the car was working fine, no engine or oil lights to alert that the oil pressure was low.
Engine quit operating at 98375 would not go past 60 would sputter rpms would not go past 2 rpms had towed to dealer ship complete engine fairer replaced with new engine 4 day with new engine engine light is on again
