The car has been making a fluttering noise for a couple of weeks. i took it to my mechanic last week when the car dragged after stopping, and it seemed that it might stall out. my mechanic told me the engine needs to be replaced, and could go at any time.
Check engine light came on. the car started to shake as well as flashing check engine light while on the highway.
The car in question is a 2014 with about 160k miles, bought used on 12/2019 from dealer who sold it to previous owner. low oil light was flickering. checked level and nothing showed on dipstick, despite oil change at dealer before purchase. added a quart and decided to go to oil change place. while accelerating in to traffic, engine was hesitating then lost nearly all power accompanied by loud rattling (like marbles) from engine. managed to get off road with engine getting increasingly louder and vibrating badly, clearly out of balance somehow. engine stalled and would not restart. after towing to mechanic, they also noted that it was running very rough. checked oil and noted that it was full of metal shavings. i've attached a photo of the oil control valve packed with these shavings. technicians advised that engine was a total loss. the 2.0l engine in this car is the exact same engine built in the exact same time period that kia was forced to recall (sc147) in other models but for no apparent earthly reason it was not included! how can this happen? why wasn't the engine recalled across the board? all symptoms noted in the complaints here and in the recall match: sudden low oil level, loss of power, metal shavings working their magic throughout the engine internals, catastrophic failure soon after. replacement engines seem to have been discontinued and aren't available in the rebuild market. i've already sunk money on towing and diagnostics on the thing, and i'm going to have to pay to get what is basically a brick right now towed back to the house. i'm going to try once again to get through to somebody at kia customer support, but i think we all know how that's going to turn out, don't we?
Engine failing. cylinder #3 is making noise. no noise when switched off. internal part has begun to fail; dealer recommends that replace engine. no kia warranty coverage because we are second owners.
As the vehicle accelerates, a loud ticking noise becomes evident. it only happens when the vehicle is accelerating and in drive, it does not make a noise when given gas in park. after multiple complaints of the same issue with 2014 forte gdi engines and the fact that the 2014 fortes were not included in the class action lawsuit, i decided to file this complaint for fear that my engine will soon seize like the many that i've read online. my car only has 61,000 miles on it and is just out of warranty.
Engine failed without any warning lights and had a strong burning odor, after researching gdi engine in this model and other kia models the problems were simular except for recall on the forte model
After repairing my car the first time 3 months ago for some major catalytic converter issues causing the car not to run, my car has now completely seized up. since my car has hit 120k miles it has been consuming an alarming amount of oil. there were no leaks that could be identified and no major issues at the time explaining the oil consumption issue. i have had to continuously put quarts and quarts of oil in this vehicle and had repaired the cat converter issue along with replacing the spark plugs and the wiring and the normal tuneups. as i was driving down the road yesterday i noticed that my car was not accelerating as it normally does so i pulled over and to my surprise the oil i had just put in it was completely gone, no leaks, no lights, no warnings, no indication as to what was going on. i then put 2 quarts of oil in the car and drove home and realized the car was rattling a little bit, i let it sit in park while on and then headed out down the road where the car made a loud hiss noise and jerked across the road. my engine had seized up with no explanation and almost caused me to wreck. i now have a vehicle with a seized engine and still owe 7k on it. i really hope that these year/make/model is looked into because this could have been potentially dangerous and it is not fair to the people who have spent their hard earned money on a brand new car.
While driving my car on the highway at 60 miles per hour, my car shut off and all the light on the dash board went out and the car would not start. i try to restart my car and it would not start again. as i got it off the road, i try to restart the car with no luck and white smoke coming from the engine compartment. there was no warning light that came on while driving the car. the smoke smelled like electrical in nature.
In october 2019 i began experiencing engine issues and on 11/16/19 i had a catastrophic failure of the engine of my 5 door 2014 kia forte at night in the middle of a busy road fm528 in friendswood, texas. i had to tow the vehicle 3 times at the cost of approx. $80 per tow and spent an additional $186 to have it evaluated by a mechanic. we researched the issue online and discovered a number of vehicles of the same make and model have been experiencing "piston flap" which is a manufacturing defect of the cylinders. even though my engine is warranted for 100k miles and the mileage was at 88k, kia motors refused to cover the additional towing expense to get it back to the dealership (gay family kia in dickinson, tx) for inspection. i have been without my primary transportation since that time. today, 1/7/2020 the dealership said the engine would be "repaired" not completely replaced. during this entire time kia denied me a loaner car. as a single mom, (which dealership was aware) we had to take my college student son's 1999 truck to visit my family 2 hours away and it had an alternator failure and had an additional tow because of no loaner car. on 12/27 i had knee surgery and the only vehicle i had to drive was a 1997 miata that was a standard. i could not drive the standard due to my surgery and missed an additional 2 days of work. this issue is dangerous and puts consumers at great risk of injury and crash on public roads. kia has done everything in their power to circumvent an acceptable remedy to the situation so i am now turning to nhtsa for assistance. please help! will provide written reports when kia decides to give them to me. i strongly disagree with the simple replacement of parts that will obviously fail once the vehicle passes 100k in mileage.
We buy this car in 2 months ago and now the engine is in bad condition
I have a kia forte ex gdi purchased used from car max of whitemarsh, maryland. when i started the vehicle, on september 22, 2019, there was a very loud ticking noise. i allowed the car to warm up. as i drove and reached 30mph, on city street, the noise grew louder. when i checked the oil stick it was dry. i get regular oil changes and am not due for another one until my car reached 84,319 miles. my car has exactly 81,6000 miles on it today (september 30, 2019 or 2/13/2020 which ever comes first). my check oil light or engine light never came on to indicate my oil was extremely low. i purchased oil and filled up my car. the noise is softer now but is still there. i received a recall notice for an issue dealing with something that may keep the car from passing emission test. i have an appointment at bob bell kia (who always services my vehicle) in essex maryland on october 17th, 2019, to correct that issue. i notified them of the noice and lack of oil with no indication of such from the cars dashboard. they will check it out on the 17th when i bring the car in for the recall issue. after reading some complaints from other owners of the same vehicle i have, i will not be surprised if they tell me i need a new engine. i still owe $11,107.64 on the car and will not be driving my vehicle anymore until the mechanic can pinpoint the problem. with all the complaints of faulty engines and fire hazards why is the 2014 kia forte ex gdi not included in an engine recall or the class action suit that is already against kia for the same exact issues in their sorento and other models? who can i turn to for help with this issue since i have a vehicle i can not safely drive but still must pay on?
My 2014 kia forte suddenly started making a knocking sound and shut off while driving down the interstate. after towing vehicle to the shop i was told that the engine needs to be replaced. the mechanic told me he does not understand why as there was not anything that could have caused this. are fluids were good and clean. upon reviewing kia had problems with this engine in other vehicles which led to recalls.
Knocking sound and engine blew with under 58,000 miles. bought my car brand new just over 5 years ago.
On july 17,2019 my kia forte 2014 stop on i-75 northbound in perry, ga with a 18 wheeler on my tail @80mph. i had no power it just cut off. this was after a oil change @ walmart in cordele, ga 13 days earlier there was no oil and it had run out from the filter. both ase certified mechanic @ hutchinson kia and an independent certified mechanic. dealer couldn't determine leakage, second sound the engine was cracked caused problem. it was a dangerous situation for my daughter her life was in danger in fast high volume interstate traffic. the engine has a deficiency in these gdi engines, should recalled. i was told by a reliable souce that both the kia's and their sister company share the same engine and there have been problems with both engine type gdi 2014 model kia forte and other models with this kind of engine.
Car needs oil every 1,000 miles or so with no leaks. engine eats oil and is always several quarts low. daughter was driving car and it stopped excellerating. catalytic converter just had to be replaced at 82,000 miles. engine noise with vibrations. my daugher is afraid to drive the car. kia says warranty expired 2,000 miles ago and won't fix car. car is extremely unsafe!
2014 kia forte ex 2.0 liter gdi engine has knocking noises. when i took it to grossinger kia of lincolnwood, il they quoted over $4,300 + labor due to metal shrapnel in the engine and they told me that i needed to replace the short block of the engine. they told me that the car was out of warranty because i was not the first owner and that the engine was only covered until 60,000 miles. i bought the car used around november 2018 when it had around 61,000 miles because it had a clean carfax history but i noticed the knocking noises became increasingly louder until i took it to the dealer. i've searched online and it appears that hyundai/kia has a manufacturing defect with their gdi engines as there are currently lawsuits concerning their engines failing due to a manufacturing defect. i believe this car also has a defect engine and an investigation should be done to compel them to repair their defective engines.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. while driving 25 mph, the check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to gene messer kia (located at 6006 19th st, lubbock, tx 79407, (806) 776-5600) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Excess engine wear may be indicative of other models that have been recalled, car is under 100,000 miles as of today. excessive engine knock caused concern and kia claims it needs a new engine, but i have noticed quite a few other models all have the same issue, just not including the forte yet. car knocks both sitting still and in motion, knocks faster during driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. while driving, a ticking noise was heard from the engine, and the vehicle hesitated and almost stalled twice. the vehicle was taken to alm kia south (4310 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291, (678) 827-8900) for an oil change. the contact was informed that a new engine was needed because oil was burning in the engine. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the engine was burning oil. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who stated that there was no oil in the engine. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
03/08/19 at 5:45am i was entering us hwy 23 n. bound from central ave. in sylvania ohio. the car was having issues with acceleration as i tried to get on the freeway. suddenly i heard like a fan noise, the oil light came on followed by the engine light and the car just shut off! i pulled to the side of the road as smoke was filling the cabin. i got out and went around front and flames were coming out between the hood and the fender on the passenger side. i called 911. one police and 2 fire trucks showed up in nothing flat! the fire was moving into the cab. the car is a total loss! after my own research i firmly believe it was the cooling fan resistor. that would explain the noise i heard and the fire.
Engine knocking and they replaced under warranty. car had 86,000 miles. drove car to work next day and it caught on fire while driving home on busy highway. kia corp knows of a problem with fuel pump and lines needing to be replaced once engine is replaced but failed to let their dealerships be aware of this issue. also why is the forte not on recall list as many kia fortes are also catching on fire due to engine/ engine repairs.
It started with a ticking noise coming from my engine like it needed an oil change but it had just had one. i took it to a kia dealership to have it looked at and was told it was the engine. they said that the rod bearings were wearing down and resulting in metal contamination in the engine. they said i needed my engine replaced immediately or risk it locking up while driving. after research i found other models from the same year and the same type of engine have been recalled do to the same issue. i have attached the invoice for the replacement engine.
On 02-04-2019, my vehicle completely shut-down while driving. i have experienced this in the past. kia has been contacted about this. this vehicle has been to the shop on various occasion, nothing has been done to specifically address this issue. the is a major safety issue that could be life threatening if not properly addressed.
The car very hard to start. after many times of trying to start the car it does start it will not read the cars rpm. many times the car has just shut off while driving or sitting at a light or stop sign. the engine does not seem to be running smoothly.
Takata recall, the indicator gauges/sensors on the instrument panel indicating low oil pressure, as well as others are currently not working and my engine is burning oil in excess of manufactures specifications. general knowledge is that this can cause my engine to seize or catch on fire which is an immense safety concern. per the york pa kia dealer, the oil was empty the oil pressure indicator never illuminated. it wasn't until my car was deemed empty that the check engine light came on. car was inspected by dealer and york kia (sept 18) claimed no permanent damage to my engine as a result. (vehicle passed emissions/safety two weeks later - monroe muffler & break, york pa) as my car didn't seem to be leaking oil, subsequent vigilance by me revealed that my car was burning oil. two follow-up visits since september to remedy the problem with lancaster pa kia (last 11/27 - 11/28 (81,500 k on engine) and work with gwc (power train $2,100 warranty) an aftermarket warranty have been rejected despite evidence that my car is burning oil in excess of specs. as i am not the original owner, nor did i purchase this as a certified vehicle, as there is no active recall, kia will not remedy. maintenance records support that this vehicle wasn't mechanically neglected and maintained by all previous owners. if you request notes from the dealers that i have been working with please call me at [xxx] and leave me a message so i know what the call is regarding. in addition my email is [xxx] thank you. ps. as this is my only vehicle, and not really safe, information that would indicate that a recall for my make and model would be very helpful on how i handle the situation with my current vehicle. lost around $500 needing rentals etc. plus worthless warranty. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I already know about kia and their loud engines due to being an gdi engine. but this was not the high pressure fuel pump. this was a slapping type of noise that is not relative to the engine rpms. after thinking it was the timing chain being loose, it was discovered that the engine has was they call engine slap. after reading and seeing a lot of videos online about this, the engine has a design flaw in that the piston skirts are to short. replacing the engine with new or remanufactured is only going to fix the problem for a short amount of time. not thrilled that my 2014 kia forte ex with the 2.0 has only 76000 miles and now the engine needs replaced. even called the dealer and they said they are replacing a lot of the 2.0 engines and of course the 2.4 due to the recall on those. of course there is no recall on the 2.0. this noise occurred the day of my oil change and while going down the highway at 75 mph. no lights, no warning. and yes the oil level was good. mobile 1 synthetic.
Mileage 109000. driving along a heard knocking in engine. pulled to side and waited for it to cool down and checked fluids. everything was good. started back driving and knocking increased and then engine shut off causing us to coast from 60mph on a 4 lane road. luckily was able to drift to a safe spot to pull over.
Takata recall i was driving to work when heard a bang in the motor pulled over and heard knocking in motor. turned motor off and checked fluids and all we're normal.. i have a safety recall on this vehicle already and with the recent recalls announced i believe my car is one of the affected vehicles because there was no warning at all that there was something wrong until the noise happened. and only 74000 miles on vehicle
At approximately 63,000 miles i began hearing a knock in the engine and noticed hesitancy as the engine shifted gears. about 4 days later the check engine light came on. i took the car to the dealership and was told there was sludge in the engine. the service rep at the dealership indicated that the would contact kia to determine if the engine repair would be covered under the warranty. yesterday i was told it may be an engine rod. it has been over a week without any resolution. i mentioned that kia had recalled kia optima for similar engine and was rudely advised that the forte and optima had different engines.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. the contact stated that the vehicle was purchased second hand. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook. the contact had the oil replaced with synthetic oil upon the advice of an independent mechanic; however, the failure continued. the contact had to constantly add oil to the vehicle. the last oil change was performed on august 16, 2019; however, half of the oil had depleted by august 28, 2019. the contact also stated that the vehicle experiencing issues accelerating, a burning odor was present, and smoke was observed. oakland kia (2424 webster st, oakland, ca 94612, (510) 267-0688) was contacted and stated that there was no recall or warranty to cover the repairs. the dealer scheduled an appointment for september 12, 2019. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall and advised that the vehicle be taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000. *bf the consumer stated the dealer advised the catalytic converter failed. it was not covered under the recall.
Tl* the contact owned a 2014 kia forte. while driving 15 mph, the contact detected an abnormal odor. also, while the vehicle was parked with the engine running, smoke was seen coming from under the hood and flames appeared from the front of the vehicle. a police report was filed. the fire department extinguished the fire. the firefighters informed the contact that the vehicle was severely damaged and the cause of the fire was not determined. the contact's significant other suffered burns on the right hand thumb, but no medical attention was required. the vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. while driving, the vehicle failed to accelerate and made a sputtering noise when the engine was started. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Vehicle burns all oil in between 3000 mile oil change. no low oil pressure warning light. lagrange ga kia dealership did not detect any leaks .
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. while driving at an unknown speed, an abnormal knocking noise was heard. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (rick case kia, 3190 satellite blvd, duluth, ga 30096, (888) 322-3854) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 12774224. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 75,000.
Electrical issues have happened countless times. such as turning on the blinker makes all lights go out in car then turn back on as well as replacing the brake lights on multiple occasions. engine: should be recalled because it shakes and vibrations often times. the same way the kia optima engine theta ll engine had to be recalled due to engine failure this engine has similar issues and it overall isn't the best car with a passenger safety rating of just 2 or 3 stars. kia needs to look into this issue with the engine and electrical components and recall them because they are unsafe. my engine should not vibrate the entire vehicle to the point where i'm vibrating obnoxiously. also the electrical hazards are unreal especially if i have to replace brake lights multiple times. kia. look into this and fix it. these things happen whether the car is moving or not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. the contact stated that the engine seized while driving approximately 25 mph. the failure occurred without warning. hometown kia (111 midtown ave, mt hope, wv) diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 121,000.
I had report the issue to kia of tupelo, ms. my card has had two recent issues. the first one being that upon acceleration, white smoke has been noted twice. the car has stalled out twice upon take off on the highway/interstate. this concern me greatly! on my most recent oil change, it was discovered that i have at least two quarts of oil shortage, with no leaks noted.
Took my kia forte 2014 in for an inspection, and instead received an ecu upgrade due to some kia campaign sc150. after the upgrade, my vehicle began to have issues. the very same day after leaving dealership, my car began to stall and blow a lot of white smoke from exhaust. i was pulled over by a stranger who informed me of that the white smoke exhausting blinded his view. kia has been disregarding this safety concern.
The car manufacturer refuses to honor the advertised warranty for vehicle [xxx]. the vehicle was in motion driving straight on the interstate 5 southbound. it experienced a kind of road hazard like a small rock somewhere between exits 210 and 205. the impact was minimal and made only a small noise against the underside of the vehicle so there was no reason to think the vehicle suffered damage or needed to stop. however, the check engine light came on after 3 or 4 miles. the vehicle was brought to a stop immediately on the side of the interstate before exit 205. the vehicle's oil pan was punctured, and the engine oil was drained out. the engine had suffered critical damage. the vehicle was then towed to a kia dealership in glendale, ca. repair costs were quoted to be $7,332.63. kia deemed the repairs non-warrantable due to the damage being external. kia offered goodwill assistance at a reduced price of $4532.00. however, i feel that this should be completely covered under the warranty. the complaint is for the amount of the repair described above ($4532.00). the complaint is against the structural integrity of the oil pan and the engine which became critically damaged from such a minimal impact. the complaint is also against the warning system of the car which failed to notify the engine oil leaking at such a high rate in a timely manner before the vehicle suffered critical damage and put the passen gears at risk. 2014 kia forte experienced an unexplained catastrophic engine fire while driving down the road at a steady 40mph in 40 deg. f. weather. all suspension components showed no obvious damage, and the owner did not perform any recent service work. no symptoms such as engine lights or sounds were observed until the car began losing power and caught fire about 60 seconds later. the check engine light illuminated after smoke was observed by the driver who was stopping the car.
Had recall repaired on 01-26-18 & had check electrical wire in photo, & why did not start when turn key. no one could find anything including personal mechanic. found kia forte had many electrical problems & this should not occur with 4 year old car. occurred 2nd time on 07-20-18 & when wire touched to "tighten," car started. feels like wants to cut off & you can feel vibration, but seems to keep going. seems to occur after running then parking, but all lights & bells are working, so not battery. situation occurred prior to recall for repair & was told to tell kia shop. you have to check manually, not depend on computer as that is only as good as the programmer. it can make mistakes, too. all times vehicle was parked after operating. it could cut out in middle of interstate & cause serious or deadly accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia forte. while driving 30 mph, an abnormal knocking sound was heard coming from the engine compartment. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (shawnee mission kia used cars, 7810 shawnee mission parkway, overland park, ks 66202) where it was diagnosed that the motor failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 48,000.
My daughter had a car crash on july 22, 2017 due to brakes not working properly. air bags did not deploy. she was driving on the interstate in tuscaloosa, al and there were no other drivers on the road thank god. her car hydroplaned and hit a railing. she could have been killed. unknown about the fault or problem that created the unsafe condition. her car is at a body shop in alabama so i will obtain repair invoices and police accident report as soon as possible. my daughter does not have car insurance.
I was changing the oil on my car and noticed that a hose below the car broke and was leaking some type of fluid. i noticed this about 30 minutes ago, but the issue could have been going on for much longer.
2014 kia forte 63000 miles shuts off at random speeds and when stoping or turning this is a extream safety issue something needs to be done about this dealer cant figure it out and wont work on it anymore its has been to the dealer about this issue 4 times a week with no help
Recall issue on that pertains the fan belt. *tr
I have had two accidents ,the first time when i went to try and start my car up and it would not start up. kia replace my fuel pump, believing that was the issue. the second they told me they could not diagnosis a problem so it was nothing that they could do. *tr
When driving at any speed, and often times when coming to a stop and then starting to accelerate again, the vehicle loses power and turns off. at this point the check engine light, battery light, oil light and others come on. the vehicle then needs to be put in park, and turned off, and restarts with no issue. the fuel pump has been replaced but has failed to resolve the issue. fucillo kia is also refusing to honor the warranty and continue working on the vehicle until the issue is identified. a flight recorder box was put in the vehicle to record the issue if it were to happen again on one of the occasions they gave me back the vehicle stating they were unable to duplicate the problem. the issue did occur again with flight recorder box in place but they said it did not send any signal stating there was an issue with the vehicle. the vehicle has been to them 6 times and at this point they will no longer work on the vehicle despite it being well within the 100,000 mile/10 year warranty. the issue started at 15085 miles and now at 19,000 miles the problem persists.
On 2 occasions the car has stalled while making a left turn.the first time it was in april 2014.2nd time it happened was around july 29th 2014. i first report it to the dealership back in march when i took the car in for a oil change. they would not put it down on the paper work to look at it since they could not replicate the problem. then reported it to a different dealership as well as kia. the new dealership did put it down on paperwork. but since they are not able to replicate the problem, they would not look into it further. also have reported a engine noise to the first dealership. they first told me it was a standard noise. so we started getting videos of the noise. they then said they would replace the engine. the same day that we picked the car back up from the engine being replaced we heard a noise coming from the car. some how the right drive axle got broke. they said they did not work around that area.so then that means that they committed fraud by falsifying docs when they said they replaced the engine. 2 days after finally getting the car back the engine noise came back.now i got told that they will not look at the car until the check engine light comes on or the car comes in on a tow truck. now the biggest concern is the car just stalling while driving? what happens now if we get into a accident.this really needs to be looked at. kia needs to be held responsible for this.it is not normal for a car with less than 14,000 miles on it to just up and stall. i am tired of hearing everything is standard. kia is fraud they do not want to honor their warranty that they sell. *tr
