Recently reported STEERING problems on 2018 Jeep Wrangler

I have had the "death wobble" since may. i've gone through 3 stabilizers, all on my dime, because my original stabilizer was damaged. have taken my jeep to two dealers and two offroad shops. the offroad shops insist nothing is wrong with my lift, and it's an fca issue. dealer does not take it seriously because of the lift, and tells me to replace stabilizer. the "issue" is causing me to go through multiple stabilizers as they go bad attempting to prevent the "death wobble"

Steering/wheels freezing when turning (mostly right), multiple dates with latest date listed below *tt vin not valid updated 9/20/18*jb

The car's steering locks up and becomes difficult steer until the driver pulls hard to a direction, the steering almost feels like it's locked and the hard pull breaks it loose. on a few occasions it forces the car to jolt as if you are trying to overcorrect. this happens at freeway speeds. here is a link of another driver experiencing the same problem. https://youtu.be/btolez3ujgi i am taking my car back to the dealership to have it looked at. *tt updated 8/16/18*jb updated 9/20/18*jb

Loose steering play in wheel always correcting to stay on road

My new jeep wrangler has an excessive about of 'play' in the steering. i'm constantly trying to correct it just to keep it going the direction intended. it's very difficult to drive any distance. i'm worn out when i arrive at my destination due to steering issue. i'm also afraid this is a safety issue. please help!

New vehicle with 300 miles on odometer exhibited vague steering and wondered back and forth all over the road. requires constant steering wheel input to drive in a straight path down the highway. tire pressures are all set to specifications. test drove two additional identical models and had the same experience. found many reports from owners online of the same problem. the steering/handling is very disconcerting on the new wrangler jl models. after one month with the vehicle, drivability hasn't improved. have notified jeep directly via their website and social media representatives. will be discussing issue with my dealership in the near future.

I own a 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited 4 door rubicon. purchased it in may 2018. it has 3,682 miles on it. from the first day i purchased it and every day thereafter, the steering has been extremely loose to the point that you have to keep turning the wheel back and forth to keep the vehicle traveling in a straight line to remain in your driving lane. it feels as if you were driving an old style tractor and gives one the impression the vehicle will go off of the road or strike another vehicle next to you. the higher the rate of speed the more one has to steer back and forth to keep the vehicle moving in a straight line. i have taken the vehicle back to jeep twice to report the issue for repair and both times they have indicated that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. thousands of other owners have made this complaint and chrysler jeep is replacing some of the drag bars or steering assist on some vehicles while other owners are getting their computer reset to correct a faulty factory setting which allegedly cause this problem. is nhtsa going to get off of its ass and officially do something about this or do we have to start a class action to see results? jeep knows its a problem. they know they are liable. i am an attorney who currently represents an 18 year old boy who totaled an exact same vehicle as mine when his steering locked up and he crashed head on into a telephone pole. now jeep is sending their engineer to inspect the vehicle.how many people have to die or be injured before you act?

After turning the steering wheel straight after a left turn, just before it hits the 12 o'clock position, the power steering locks up or resists. does not happen all the time, mostly when the engine is at full operating temperature. sometimes the resistance is strong where it can cause you to fight it and over correct. i can here a clunking sound through the steering wheel that originates at power steering motor. this clunking does not happen when the engine is cold, only when the engine is hot and when i'm experiencing this problem. *tt updated 9/20/18*jb

My 2018 jeep wrangler has experienced power steering failure primarily during highway driving and more often in cold weather.you become aware of the failure after entering the highway and attempt a slight correction right or left and realize there is no power assist. you apply more pressure then realize it is going to take a lot more effort to make the car move in the direction desired, the initial thought is the car is not going to turn but with more pressure it finally moves.this may continue for a few seconds or can come and go for miles.i cannot make the car do it at will so i've made no effort to have the car repaired. i also have followed forums on line describing steering problems but as of yet,it appears there is no dealer repair offered. the car has been in service since 5/5/2018.the problem has persisted since shortly after delivery.i am currently just past 40k miles in this time period.out of factory warranty but i did purchase a 100k mile warranty at time of sale.i keep thinking this problem is going to become a recall along with excessive steering play,(wandering),and the ever famous "death wobble" of which this vehicle has all three.so far that hasn't happened. regardless of being termed safety issues my experience is that they are most certainly safety issues.thank you,[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

From the day this vehicle was new it has had erratic tracking down the road that requires constant corrections. we have had two different dealerships look at it & they claim it is normal. i beg to differ as i have owned 5 jeep wranglers in the past & never was the steering sensitivity this bad. there is something not normal. it requires both hands be on the wheel at all times.

I have the new jl wrangler. this is a redesigned wrangler for 2018. since taking delivery on 5/2/18 i have experienced lose steering with what seems to be a dead spot with the steering wheel. this allows for the jeep to wonder in the traffic lane. at times it feels very unsafe where you feel like you could lose control or end up in an adjacent travel lane. the dead spot is a few degrees right and left of center. it feels like you can move the wheel without any steering input to the front wheels. because of this you are often fighting with the steering wheel as you make corrections to the left you end up going too far and have to correct back to the right. this occurs at all speeds, but seems more prevalent at higher highway speeds. maybe because it feels more scarier at those speeds? jeep and fca so far seem to indicate this is normal jeep wrangler steering. however i have had previous jeep wranglers where the steering did not feel this way. as well as conferring with other jeep owners both of previous models and this new model who do not experience this problem. i have had the jeep in twice for service with the dealership i purchased the jeep from, but nothing wrong has been found. i have driven over 3600 miles on the jeep to date in hopes that it would get better. however the issue is still there.

Vehicle wanders. dead spot in steering. significant input required to keep vehicle under control at highway speeds.

The steering feels loose. it wanders on the road even at low speeds

Steering wanders right and left and is very loose and lacks control to bring it back while in motion. particularly bad when turning

After having the vehicle only 300 miles i experienced my steering locking up while going 70 on a slight turn. i took my foot off the gas pedal and applied the brake and then the steering went back to normal. i've experience this one other time after driving for an extended period of time but have a hard time recreating the conditions where it happens. *tt updated 9/21/18*jb

Brand new jeep wrangler unlimited sport jl exhibits poor handling/steering on highways. vehicle "wonders" all over the lane. it requires constant steering wheel input to maintain a straight line. i test drove 3 separate models and all of them exhibited this behavior. i reported mine to jeep and was told "there are no issues or fixes reported at this time." i've owned several jeeps in the past, none of which wondered all over the road like this. i believe there is an issue with these new jl models that needs investigation.

Vehicle has the tendency to wander during highway driving. you would have to constantly provide input to the steering which causes fatigue. it drives and feel like you're in a windstorm.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 jeep wrangler. while driving approximately 70 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. in addition, the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to hudson chrysler jeep dodge ram (625 route 440 south, jersey city, nj 07305) where it was diagnosed that the track bar fractured at the axle frame and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 800.

As the vehicle is in motion, there is abnormal play in the steering wheel. i have taken the vehicle in for service to correct this issue, but it was not resolved. the steering wheel can be turned approximately 3-5 degrees before any response from the wheels and drifts considerably while driving.

In motion over 45mph, the jeep will suddenly experience a steering wobble that causes almost complete lack of control. to fix the issue, speed must be decreased to <10mph which can be extremely dangerous due to traffic and high speeds. the steering wheel is almost impossible to control. problem is reproducible on all roads and in all conditions. i would estimate that the driver is left with 10% control of the vehicle, and left in a very dangerous situation.

The steering at speeds over 50 mph has 2-3" of play with the steering wheel going straight. so i am continually fighting to keep it straight. this has been going on since i purchased it.

Jeep steering has a dead spot, which allow the jeep to wander back and forth in a lane. if it has any side wind the jeep become very difficult to control. seem like to much play in the steering box. this is not a jeep thing as the dealer states, its a real problem that fca seem to not want to address.

The vehicle wanders on the road and requires too much corrective steering. the dealer told me up to 2 1/2' of steering wheel play is acceptable, but i feel it's unsafe. especially in windy conditions in the mountains, and above 50 mph, the steering is very unresponsive and the vehicle sometimes wanders several feet from the travel lane while i try to correct the angle. this is the 32nd jeep i have owned, and our family still has three others, including a 35 year old cj-8. all of them steer much better than my completely stock 2018 rubicon. my jeep is 14 months old and has 10,000 miles on it. it has been to the dealer a few times and they tell me the steering is normal for this model, at the same time admitting that the jl steering is worse than prior years. i have been told there is nothing that can be done to make this vehicle safer.

At highway speeds if a bump or hole is hit the front end will develop a wobble. this includes the steering wheel jiggling from side to side. the wobble goes away when the brakes are heavily applied. dealer service response was "no problem found". problem continues. the vehicle is completely stock including original tires and wheels.

My welds to the track bar are a major concern to me and my family. they don't look to be compliant and i'm concerned that they may break. there's a recall and my vin doesn't seem to be in the current recall but they look worse than ones that are currently in the recall list. please see attachments.

We have a loose/play in the steering on our 2018 jeep wrangler jl rubicon, mostly at highway speeds, it's difficult to keep the vehicle in it's lane when driving, it requires constant steering wheel correction to keep the vehicle going in a straight line, it feels like the steering wheel has to much play between turning the wheel and the tires turning. we have had it to our local dealer here in jacksonville, fl and they haven't been able to resolve this issue.

Steering has about 2 inches of play (dead spot) on center. jeep wants to wander and drift i have had this jeep to 2 different dealers with this problem with negative results. i was told this is the way they drive. this is not my first wrangler. i drove a 2011 jk wrangler for 7 years and i can say without reservation this is not the way they drive.

Jeep wonders from left to right above 40 miles, excessive play in steering while driving in city speeds and highway ,bought it brand new started from day one have brought it to dealers 4 times , have called chrysler fca customer care only to b told there is no problem with jeep and it is doing what it is design to do ,?ealer will not look at problem anymore and tells me to call fca !!!dealer open a case on the jeep fca came back and said vehicle is doing what it is design to to it is within specs, .no copys were given to me !!!!ase was closed

Vehicle is hard to steer and keep in lane. there seems to be a major safety issue because even with constant attention it is all over the place. even at slower speeds of 30mph the effect can be felt. higher speeds are very scary and often people behind me wonder if i am driving drunk.

I purchased vehicle in feb 2018. within the first week or two started having problems. a coworker purchased a 2018 jeep cherokee. she returned it in two months because it would not start. another coworker's girlfriend purchased a 2018 rubicon with engine light problems, starting issues, and radio not working. my vehicle history: rear defroster sensor on back window does not stay secured. 4th return to dealer. second window to be replaced. panel light for rear window defroster continues to light, but sensor is not connected. have been on wait list since march 2019 for new window to arrive. it appears the sensor cord is too short to reach window when raising. death wobble has happened 3x while in motion on highway and has been at the dealership 3x for this issue. vehicle does not correct itself while driving and it feels like the vehicle is coming apart. had to continue driving on the highway, slowing down did not correct the problem, until i reached a safe place to pull over. once coming to a complete stop, it corrected itself. the jeep looses total control and i am afraid something may come apart causing injury or death. freedom tops had rattle inside of them with huge wind noise when in motion. problem corrected when dealership switched out freedom tops. now the freedom top is too big for freedom bag. the bag appears to be coming apart when zipped. drove to store and got out of the vehicle. tried to remote lock the vehicle, which failed. tried to start jeep, it would not start. followed instructions on panel to use key by placing close to remote start button. after a second try it started. radio playing two stations at one time. back camera would not work. key fob replaced as it was falling apart. armrest replaced, would not connect when enclosed in holder. all began in 2/2018. date i am about to enter below is for the wobble.
