On average, the 2012 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 40 908 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Bad left head, known problem with pentastar engine. check engine light came on. codes indicated misfire on cylinders. inspection revealed a bad left head. *tr

2012 jeep wrangler sport 3.6l vehicle does not start at random. vehicle has stalled at highway speeds. all electrical will turn on but jeep will not crank over or make any attempt to start. wipers turn on, their own. battery, and starter have both been checked. evidence leads to faulty tipm sensor but because the chrysler dealership can not duplicate the error after 5 tries they said they can not replace the tipm. dealership states they can not just throw parts at it to fix the issue even with hundreds to thousands of other chrysler products having the same issue. *tr

3.6 pentastar v6 oil filter / oil cooler assembly developed a major oil leak... oil could be smelled dripping on exhaust stopped driving until dealer had replacement part. was in fear that engine oil could catch on fire, or run out of oil and destroy motor. all new chrysler 3.6 3.2 v6's are affected. chrysler charged almost 600.00 to replace part and allow safe operation of 3 year old car. their has been a new part for 2014 models that is having more oil leak problems... *tr

I received an e-mail from jeep around december stating recall n28 would affect my jeep because the power steering line will rub the transmission oil cooler tube causing the vehicle to leak transmission fluid. i noticed on december 18th that my jeep was in fact leaking transmission fluid so i called the closest jeep dealership to me, gwinnett jeep in stone mountain georgia, and took my vehicle there on december 19th. after further inspection, the dealership stated the entire transmission oil cooler unit was leaking, which i told them was odd since this jeep is only two years old with less than 50,000 miles. the dealership later called me back and told me a different story stating a transmission oil cooler tube was leaking and that unfortunately it was a different transmission oil cooler tube than was listed in recall n28. i didn't believe their story since they initially told me the transmission oil cooler unit was faulty. the bill was 503 dollars. i am e-mailing you because my vehicle was only leaking transmission fluid because of recall n28 and the dealership took advantage of me. this is a classic "double dip" where the dealership collects money from from corporate for the recall and then collects money from the customer. this dealership should be under investigation and audited because i am more than certain that people have previously brought in vehicles to gwinnett jeep for recall issues and then they charged innocent customers additional money for "issues" with different components of the vehicle. i checked their reviews and there was a similar incident with a jeep pertaining to a different recall. i don't want this to happen to anyone else in the future. i am a full time student and i also work full time, so my time and money mean a lot to me. a routine recall that should have been free of charge ended up costing me over 500 dollars. *js

Attempting to accelerate from stop at traffic signal, dashboard trouble lights illuminated, esc and antilock brake system activated, effectively nullifying driver throttle input. vehicle would not accelerate. *tr

The (rhd) vehicle check engine light and traction control (skid) light come on regularly while driving straight on dry roads and when the traction control light is on it causes the vehicle to slow speed. when driving over 40 mph, it takes a while to gain speed and if you let off gas it jerks like you are driving a standard transmission. i recently had the powertrain control module replaced costing myself over $600 and it still does the same thing. i have made a stop at a stop sign before and this jeep died and started right back. occasionally the gascap light comes on and stays for a couple days and then goes away. another strange thing that happens a lot is the temperature on dash is set to fahrenheit, but often i have to change it back because i will look and its showing celsius. the most recent thing that happened scared even my children. i had just took off at a 4-way intersection on highway and while gaining speed with no lights on, i reached about 40 mph and it just jerked as hard as it could and then check engine light and traction control light come on causing us to almost get run over by the people behind us gaining speed because we were being slowed down by this event. this is by far the strangest vehicle i've ever owned, sometimes there are no lights, sometimes just check engine or gascap light is on, and sometimes the check engine and traction control lights are on at the same time. you never know what you are gonna get on any given day. i have taken it to dealer again for the 6th time but they don't seem to be very knowledgeable or have any idea why this is happening. *tr

Vehicle stopped getting heat from all vents on drivers side, including defroster and only luke warm heat on the passenger side. all regular maintenance had been performed on the vehicle. dealer says radiator and heater core need to be replaced as they are filled with 'sludge'. a little research online and this seems to be an all to common issue with these jeeps and chrysler has given no answer as to the cause. while not having heat is inconvenient, not being able to defrost the windshield is a safety hazard. they are currently fighting me on paying for this as the vehicle is just out of warranty. this is an issue chrysler is fully aware of and has done nothing to fix! further investigating has shown that ignoring this problem and not removing this sludge could eventually lead to engine failure. *js

The transmission oil cooler tube has ruptured. the transmission oil cooler tube on this vehicle has had a recall on it for some time now. i have contacted the dealership several times to get my name placed on the waiting list; however, they are now telling me my name is not on the list. the vehicle is currently unable to be driven due to the transmission fluid leaking out. i have contacted the dealership to try to resolve this situation, but no one seems to want to help. everyone has resorted to very un-professional behavior in light of the incident at the dealership. i have been very patient with the group, but am becoming very un-patient in the situation. they continue to tell me it could be six to eight weeks before the part is available. i would be more understanding if i knew my name was not previously placed on the list, but i know that i have made several attempts at doing so. this vehicle is also my primary vehicle. i am in desperate need of having this unsafe situation resolved. *tr

The car had been driven for less than 15 minutes. upon pulling up to the stop light, smoke started coming out from the hood then ventilation. after getting kids out of the car, i used a fire extinguisher under the front of the car. once the extinguisher was exhausted, there was still smoke and small flames. at this point, there were flaming pieces dropping from underneath. i then got safely away and waited until the fire department arrived. the fire was significant. it melted the front end before the fire department arrived. *tr

Rear ended another vehicle at a speed of approximately 25 mph. the air bags did not deploy at time of impact or at all. noticed that the rear windshield wipers did not work as well as the automatic door locks. apparently this is a electrical issue that could have caused some serious injuries. *tr

The engine malfunction light came on so i took my 2012 jeep wrangler to the dealership. they said one of the cylinders misfired, but it was not a major issue, so they reset the software and i drove the vehicle home. a few weeks later, the engine malfunction light came on again, so i took my jeep back to the dealership. this time cylinder number 2 misfired and they told me the cylinder head needed to be replaced. they said my jeep will be ready tomorrow. *tr

Vehicle check engine light comes on and vehicle losses power. this occurred on a highway at 65mph, the cel came on while on cruise control. at that moment the vehicle decelerated from 65mph to about 40mph with no notice. this was an unsafe condition for all occupants of the vehicle including a 16 month baby. the vehicle was almost struct by an semi truck from behind, who had to lock its wheels to avoid a collision. this will be the 10th time the cel was been illuminate, but this was the first time for an incident of this manner. the manufacture and dealership seems uncaring of the event and process to make the vehicle safe. *tr

Major oil leak. dealer claims they cant find the source. luckily, most oil is in the air box otherwise it could cause a fire or horrible accident. reading of many similar leaks from owners of the same model. this shohld be investigated and manufacturer make this a recall. *tr

I received a safety recall notice for my vehicle over 4 months ago. i've been trying ever since to have my car repaired but continue to be told that jeep has put a hold on the part. that the part is out of stock nationwide, etc. i'm very worried about the safety of my vehicle. *tr

The engine has always had a ticking sound. it's been evaluated as a head replacement. the engine light has been on for months. misfire #2 cylinder is the code. *tr

At 26,000 miles the check engine light came on. i took it to the dealership, they reset the light and told me the 4th cylinder misfired, but everything is fine now. one week later it did it again. now they are telling me it needs a new cylinder. after reading the other postings, it will be sold asap. i am not chancing going over the 36000 mile warranty and having it happen again. nope... it's gone... i am very sad because i love my jeep. :-( *tr

Check engine had been coming on and going off for a few weeks finally has stayed on steady for over a week now. called my dealer service department yesterday and told them about the problem. they told me to reset the computer to see if it would stay cleared. reset before leaving work got about two miles down the road and it's burning bright again. i called them and they asked me to bring it in the following morning. dropped it off and got a ride to work. they called me before lunch and informed me that i had a bad head on the drivers side of my jeep and it would have to be replaced. so i'm jeepless for a few days bumping a ride to work until it's repaired. *tr

I was driving over the weekend and everything was fine. my jeep seemed a little sluggish over the last few weeks and the engine light came on and took it to the dealer to get an oil change and for them to let me know why the engine light is on. they came back and said it was a defective cylinder head and that it would be replaced under warranty. while i was fortunate to take it in promptly, it does concern me that this problem might cause my other heads to be susceptible to the same failure. *tr

Item is a recall, yet chrysler is not shipping replacement parts to dealers in timely fashion. absolutely ridiculous as this is a very dangerous situation. all local 5 dealers claim there is a waiting list for parts. recall notice is n28. *tr

Received the recall safety notice and brought the jeep into fields in glencoe, il. was told the part was on backorder. it has been 3 months and the part still is not in. called to check and they say that only one part gets sent every 14 days and people since august have been waiting. i'm now #100 on the list. if i do the math correct in 4 years i'll get the part. hello? is anyone out there? safety recall!!! this is ridiculous. called chrysler and they said the parts are sent as soon as possible. maybe they should go to a different provider. *tr

I have received two recall notices about an oil cooler tube and power steering fluid return tube contact. i have contacted the dealership multiple times, but they have told me that gm will only send one part every two weeks, and they have yet to receive any parts for the recall. this issue needs to be resolved. *js

After commute of 35 - 40 minutes from work i pulled into my garage and closed the door down for the night as usual and went inside . i did smell a slight burning smell but thought it was related to outside fridge that failed. after being inside a few minutes we heard a noise coming from the garage. i went to check it out and found the starter on the jeep was spinning on its own. my wife noticed smoke and then flames under jeep. i managed to get jeep out of garage and fire put out and disconnected the battery. the fire was basically contained to the area around the starter and related wiring/hoses. the jeep dealer picked up the jeep and has it now. i contacted jeep factory customer representative rep with the specifics of the incident and was told my file would be turned over to the "special investigations" department. i can't imagine what the outcome of this incident would be had we not heard the noise coming from the garage or if my commute had been an additional 20 -30 minutes longer. *tr

Safety recall n28/nhtsa 13v-234 notification code n28 notice received approx. 4 months ago. went to the dealership this am 2/5/2014 to have the repair done. dealer said that they only get one part per month so they put me on a wait list. apparently there are 15 ahead of me at jones ford/chrysler in wickenburg az. so it looks like a year plus wait. can't be much of a part regarding the issue so am at a loss at the delay. the failure however can result in a incident. some prodding to get parts out to the dealers may be in order. *tr

2012 jeep wrangler unlimited sport; 1st incident with hot oil message, resulted in dealership fixing the recall they all of a sudden had parts for (that were on back order for months-and for a recall). when i told the dealership i had a case id with chrysler, they changed their tune and had the part(s). this was at 26000 miles. 2nd incident: i had driven to ny from sc with no issues while driving. next day, cold start, hot oil warning. took to a local auto repair shop and they "cleared the error" stating there was no apparent cause and they "didn't know why" the error occurred. 3rd incident: called dealership i bought the jeep from and told the guy (whom i know by name) that i was having the same problem, "hot oil message." he stated, "hot oil message, i don't know what you're talking about!" really??? he was clearly lying, and i knew right then he was of no help to me. so, i went to the nearest chrysler in a town 15 minutes away where i had moved to as it was closer anyway...letting the liar-part go, thinking the other dealership would surely do the right thing. this is at 34000 mi. the dealership has my jeep currently and told me today that the dealership i bought it from wrote "added computer to jeep," as the supposed fix for the original issue (recall). the guy at the closest dealership told me the computer wouldn't even "talk" to him so he couldn't diagnose the problem until he figures out how to get the 1st computer to "talk" to him so he can get to the 2nd computer and try to diagnose an issue with the 2nd computer. got a call this afternoon that it was driven around town with no problems after clearing the error message again. awaiting final results now. i'm 2000 miles away from being out of warranty. researching internet reveals numerous accounts of same issue with many people barely escaping engulfed in flames jeeps. this is an issue. class action sought. *tr

Was told in the fall the recall needed to be done--october. the dealer, jim click jeep allegedly put me on the list. i spoke to the service manager today and he said there are 3500 jeeps on his list and he's received 20 parts from chrysler. said chrysler is dragging their heals and not providing parts in a timely manner. *tr

Approx 4 months and 3700 miles of having my 2012 jeep wrangler sahara unlimited, during regular driving all dash lights came on, the warning chimes were on, all gauges dropped and continued to flash, the vehicle slowed down and the lights remained flashing and flickering for about another 20 seconds i couldn't accelerate. this has happened over 30 times since then and almost caused a serious accident on the interstate. this still continues to happen regularly and after showing them 2 videos on separate occasions dealership says they can't duplicate the problem so there is nothing they can do. now at 47000 miles my warranty is gone and this time when it happened the check engine and airbag remained on. i don't know if the two issues are related or are separate, but now it kind of "sputters and put-puts" when its in park and won't accelerate properly. dealership wants $150.00 just to look at this issue again and tell me they can't duplicate the fault. this is a serious safety issue; it has never been driven off road, is garage kept, and not used everyday. i don't want my jeep to catch fire or continue to put me and my children in a position where when could get hurt because of these issues. if anyone else has had these issues any help would be appreciated.

I can,t get dealer to repair my recall notice. i started on oct 2013 and bend back 4 times and they never have the parts. the dealer is anderson 3920north highway 95 lake havasu city az86404. *tr

Vehicles cylinder head is faulty and needed replacement. *tr

I have had two notices for recall. i contacted jeep in early october and november, they say they don't have parts and can't get any. why do you do recalls if you don't have the parts. i want this fixed before something happens. *tr

After receiving safety recall n28 / nhtsa 13v-234 from chrysler, i contacted my local dealership (from whom i purchased the vehicle) requesting to get the transmission oil cooler tube serviced. they informed me that the part needed to be ordered (1) at a time with at least (7) days between orders. as a result, they said my vehicle cannot be serviced for 20+ weeks, putting myself and my family in jeopardy during this time. while i understand it is not the dealerships fault, this systems failure must be addressed immediately. *tr

Was informed in dec 2013 by chrysler that my 2012 jeep was in need of safety recall n28/nhtsa 13v-234. have been waiting 3 months so far for part oil cooler tube and no known date when i can get one installed. dealer says they can only order one of these every 14 days...chrysler customer service says they can order 7 every 14 days to avoid some dealers hoarding parts. my vehicle has been deemed unsafe. i need to get this repaired. who can get chrysler to release the parts? this is terrible customer service. *tr

After receiving a recall notice (safety recall n28/nhtsa 13v-234 transmission oil cooler tube) in the mail, i called my local dealership (clear lake dodge/chrysler/jeep, houston, tx) to schedule a service appointment to remedy the possible problem explained in the recall notice. unfortunately, i was told that this dealership is only receiving approx. 1 - 2 of the parts needed for this problem per week and they have a list of customers for those parts already long enough that will take approx. a year to fill. i was told that i should continue to call the dealership approx. once a week and see if they, by any chance, received enough of the parts to fix my vehicle. i find this unacceptable! i do not want to wait a year to get my vehicle fixed and feel that i (nor anyone else) should not have to wait that long to get a possible defect in my vehicle taken care of. are there any other options for me? what can i do to get my vehicle taken care of immediately? i do not want to wait to get this problem taken care of and risk the possibility of the problem materializing and causing an accident that could result in my vehicle being destroyed or, even worse, injuring myself or others! i appreciate any help or advice you could give me in this matter! thank you. *tr

I received a safety recall n28 / nhtsa 13v-234. transmission oil cooler tube. called rick hendrick jeep in charleston, sc to schedule repair. i was told that they can only get 1 part every 14 days and there are 80 people ahead of me. doing the math that means they will get 26 parts over 365 days, so it will be 3 years before they can fix the problem. unacceptable. *tr

Recall notification received in nov 2013. dealer says they only get one repair kit per week. i was put on a wait list along with many others. no time or date when they would call back. chrysler/jeep should be producing more as i received pre-notification a month prior to receiving this one. *tr

I responded to a safety recall ( n29/nhtsa/ 13v-234 for a defective transmission oil cooler tube) received in sept. 2013. i called the dealer and was told the part was not in stock, but would be ordered for me. several weeks later i called again, still no part. the parts man informed me that the part was "being rationed" due to parts shortage - and that i would be contacted in the future. i asked if i was "in line" by my date of call, he said that i was. still no contact. i do have a mysterious leak showing up on the garage floor - could it be this problem? my jeep is a 2012 and has shown no leaks before. *tr

Received a recall in september 2013 that the oil cooler tube and the power steering fluid return tube might rub causing a loss of fluids which might cause a engine breakdown or a fire in the engine. went to my chrysler dealer and my jeep was inspected and determined that parts needed to be replaced. parts were ordered and dealer having trouble getting parts. how in the world can it take six months to get these parts in stock? i blame chrysler for this not the dealer. i checked my dealer 04/09/14 and i am in the dealers system and will be notified when the parts come in to their dealership. *tr

Cylinder misfire less than 20k, heat chronically did not work, brought to dealer numerous times for no heat, ticking sound coming from motor. city driven vehicle. major engine issue at 85k dealer telling me not a systemic problem with this particular vehicle. extended warranty will not cover engine issues. jeep over heating, no heat, replaced radiator twice at my own expense.

Check eng light came on .went to dealer they said no2 cylinder bad needs new head wtf theirs only 20000 miles on it .its now oct8th still waiting on the head. they should put out a recall. i'll never buy a pos chrysler product again. o yea forgot to say this my wife's truck she drives it every day to her job at nbc. *tr

Cylinder 6 misfire - requires new engine head. manufacturer has had parts backordered, and service centers are instructing customers to continue driving vehicle until part can be replaced. judging by internet posts this seems to be a common defect that could potentially strand drivers or cause engine failure while in motion. manufacturer is on 3rd version of part and has not alerted customers to the issue or provided resolution to the continued issue. *tr

Rec'd chrysler safety recall notice #1 in august - called dealership where jeep was purchased - no parts, don't know when they'll get them in - told to wait until 2nd letter comes with further instructions. rec'd chrysler safety recall notice #2 on november 1st - called dealership again, still no parts, told they are getting 1 replacement part every 7-10 days and there is extreme backlog from manufacturer. was also told that letter should state this dealership does not have part - not true. was put on proverbial wait list for part. also was told if any further damage happens to vehicle because of said part malfunction - chrysler will foot the repair bill for the entire engine. yeah right. let's see if we get notice #3.... *tr

Engine brakes and vehicle slows down momentarily for about 1-2 seconds then recovers. this has happened at least 6-7 times. at least one of these times the skid warning comes up but this happens on a freeway in dry conditions traveling in a straight line no brakes were applied by driver. *tr

I have a 2012 wrangler sahara 4dr and this past week i had to tow my jeep into a dealership in texarkana. i was driving 45 mph and not trying to gun the rpms. i had total shutdown but was able to get off the road. the dealership hooked it up and told me that my asd 25 amp fuse had blown but couldn't figure out why. my jeep ran okay for much of the day but by night it blew another fuse as i accelerated from a green light and into the intersection. i replaced it with another 25 amp fuse but fear that if i put a 30 amp in that it would be too much for a burn out but i wanted to make sure i got home. i drove back home (an hour drive up and down hills) and it seemed to always want to ramp up the rpms suddenly. i would love to know if anyone else has had this kinda issue? i have less than 25,000 miles on my jeep. update... i have now had three fuses blow and two tows to dealerships because i couldn't keep a good fuse. i hope someone can please help me point out the direction the dealership needs to be looking for. this is getting frustrating. it seems to blow a fuse when i hit any type of bump in the road. no electrical mods were made except my warn winch, which was installed at the dealership for warranty reasons. currently my jeep remain in a tow yard until tomorrow where they tow it back to the dealership * no warning lights are indicated * new air filters * no electrical mods * factory sound system * rides rough * when fuse blows, total vehicle shutdown occurs including power steering and brakes. *tr

safety recall n28/nhtsa 13v-234 transmission oil cooler tube after having appointment rescheduled twice, dealership stated that they are only receiving parts for this recall once every 15 days. they have a wait list of around 40-50 people which means that my vehicle will not be taken care of for over a year. this is unacceptable. *tr

Jeep issued recall n28 on june 4, 2013. since that time, i have been unable to obtain a repair despite attempts at two dealerships (salerno duane and nielsen dodge) to schedule the repair. as of a phone call today (march 13, 2014) with the chrysler group recall assistance center, chrylser is saying that they are only allowing 1-3 parts to be shipped to dealers per week. the dealer from whom i purchased the vehicle (nieslen dodge) has confirmed this today via email and says it may be up to six months before they have the parts to repair my vehicle under recall n28. at that rate, it will be longer than 1 year from when recall n28 was issued to when the repair takes place (assuming parts are available by then). this is an unreasonable amount of time for the repair of this defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the malfunction indicator light illuminated as the vehicle began to loose power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that cylinder two had misfired and the cylinder head needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. the failure mileage was 21,314.

Windshield wipers come on randomly while driving. service states there is nothing they can do. check engine light also on. service repaired cracked cylinder head. 5 days later check engine light is back on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, an unusual ticking noise emitted from the engine with the illumination of the check engine warning indicator. the failure occurred until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the failure was contributed to a faulty engine head and valve. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 17,300.

This makes the 2nd cylinder head i've had to had replaced on my jeep. first at apx. 25000 and 2nd head at apx. 58000 in may of 2014. also after the first cylinder head, the oil pump went bad. very disappointed in cheap parts. *tr

While driving to work after clearing snow from my vehicle...there remained a large piece of ice that would not readily disengage from jeep while trying to clear snow and ice. the hood has a deep well in the shape of a horse shoe ...the design is a flaw (replicated from another design from aev but when put into production they left out drainage design) because water accumulates on the hood while warm and driving in snow etc...when shut down the water that remains on the hood refreezes and can not be removed unless you care about damaging the paint by forcefully chiseling it away. long story short i was on the highway and could see that the engine heat was melting the ice panel and sure enough it flew up and over my windshield not without smashing the header of my windshield and then near missing the vehicle that was in back of me. the design will definitely cause damage in the future this i can say without hesitation. if chrysler had chose the option to vent the water out of the hood there would be no problem. unfortunately they did not. now every winter i pray that i am not traveling during heavy new england weather because this issue will repeat itself as many times as we get snow. *tr

2012 jeep wrangler: sudden unintended acceleration while driving at 50mph. rpms suddenly and unexpectedly exceeded 4k while brake pedal was applied in an attempt to slow the vehicle down. electronic throttle control ("etc") warning light activated. engine rpms eventually slowed and i was able to get the jeep off the road, park, and shut off the engine. upon restart, the engine rpms were above 4k without any accelerator pedal input, the gas pedal was "floored" on its own, and the etc warning light was activated. i recorded the dash board with my iphone because what was happening was beyond belief. *tr
