Problems with 2011 Jeep Wrangler FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 52 323 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2011 Jeep Wrangler

For the third fill-up in a row, when the pump shuts off an additional amount of gas spurts out of the fill up tube and down the rear left side of the jeep. the jeep is not obeying/monitoring the level of the fuel being pumped into it and when it rises to a normal cut off level the jeep ignores it and allows more fuel to enter the vehicle. it's too late to shut it off each time. each time it has done this it burps up about 1/2 a gallon to a gallon of gas. it's discoloring the plastic fender and causing a mess. i have never had a vehicle do this before. every vehicle i have owned shuts off correctly, they have monitored the fuel intake level and signaled full before the overflow happens. like how it should work. *js

Gas pump won't auto shut off, tried several different gas stations.

When fueling, with the gas pump locked, the filler tube burps/spits gas when the nozzle shuts off. this event happens when the gas pump is filling both slow and fast. gas spits out onto the fender and all over the paint under the fill tube. *tr

Everytime i fuel up, fuel spits out all over the bumper, wheel hub, ground, and sometimes me. this happens even after the fact the pump shuts off. not only is this expensive after a while, it's dangerous and has the potential for greater risk. *tr

When filling the car with gas the car does not shut the pump down causing gasoline to shoot out of the fuel filler. *tr

Excessive fuel spit back when refueling, even after gas nozzle is stopped. gasoline "bubbles" and an excessive amount comes out of the tank even if not full but close to full. *tr

Gas keeps coming out of the tank when filling up which is a danger and a hazard and has nothing to do with wear or tear or abuse its a faulty part or bad fuel tank and is a problem out there for so many jeep wranglers on every forum.if there are so many jeeps on forums with the same problem why isn't there a recall, god for bid i had a gas attendant filling up my car and didn't know gas would shoot all over him its a hazard to everyone and the environment. *tr

When i go to gas station and fill up my jeep gas overflows out the tank fill tube after pump shuts off. at first it only happened occasionally with minimal spillage. now it happens every time i fill up!!!! it makes a giant mess all over the fender, bumper, and the ground and me!!!! i have tried multiple gas stations, different settings on the nozzle(slow, med, fast). i have stood there and pumped by hand pushing nozzle firmly against filler tube to help prevent the fuel blow back. nothing works!!! the filler tube or gas tank is defective!!!! this wastes gas every time i fill up,costing me money!! its ruining the finish on my bumper, fender, and mud flap. most importantly its gasoline running all over the place including me!!!! can you say fire hazard!!! this should be recalled by jeep and fixed asap!!! *tr

Really annoying and very dangerous!! each time we fill up our 2011 jeep wrangler with fuel, just as the pumps automatic shut-off clicks, fuel will blow out and all over whoever is holding the pump handle. there is no indication that this is going to happen, except for the click from the pump handle a split second before you get doused. we checked with our jeep dealer to see if there is a recall, and they said there was not, however it appears to be a problem with the "inlet check valve"; a mechanical item that appears to be defective, and a severe safety concern, but is somehow not under warrantee. we went on-line to research and found similar issues with other chrysler vehicles, including 2007-2009 jeep wranglers. really aggravating to find out there had been previous complaints about this issue, chrysler knew what the issue was, but because there are not enough documented complaints for the 2011 year, it was not considered a real concern

Everytime i get a full tank of fuel approx. 1/2 gallon of fuel comes out of the fill nozzle. *tr

When filling the gas tank there is something wrong with the filet neck. the gas does not stop when your filling it. the gas overrated all the time. the person at the gas station says it happens w all the jeep's. this is dangerous and someone is going to die when the gas spills out. also jeep says it's a problem but says there isn't a recall

December 2013, when temperatures reached freezing and lower, vehicle started overflowing during refueling. this occurred on every refueling occurrence that the gas pump should have shut off once the tank was full. this occurred from december 2013 until march 2014 when i was able to get the vehicle in for maintenance. the vapor canister and leak detection pump filter were replaced. december 2014, temperatures reached freezing and below; vehicle is again overflowing during all refueling when the pump should have shut off on its own. this has occurred at multiple gas stations and is not isolated to one brand of gasoline, fueling station, or state. once the problem begins it does not stop when temperatures increase above freezing and higher. obviously there is some kind of defect in this system, but so far jeep/mopar has refused to acknowledge it for 2011 jeep wrangler unlimiteds. *tr

Fuel overflow during fueling. fuel does not shut off when tank is full. this has been a persistent problem. *tr

Fuel spilling out of the gas tank. also on occasion fuel will not pump at all. automatic shut off keeps engaging. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that fuel would spill whenever attempting to fill the fuel tank. the contact also mentioned that fuel would spill on herself and down the side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was advised that the check valve inside the fuel tank would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.

Around the date listed above, and since then with every fuel fill up, once the fuel nozzle stops filling, the vehicle spills fuel all over the outside of the vehicle and onto the ground, creating a fire hazard. it did not do this when it was new, and it happens at all different fuel pumps and filling stations. there is a recall for similar vehicles, but it does not include this year. i think that it should. *tr

Every time you fill up the jeep, gas spills onto the side of the jeep and all over the ground. it seems a lot of jeep owners have this same problem. is it going to take someone being hurt or catching fire before this becomes a recall? seems there is at this point enough complaints about this year model for something to be done, before a lawsuit is filed! *js

The gas always spills over from the gas tank after i put fuel in the tank. it doesn't matter if i put a few gallons in the tank or fill it full. it spills gas all over my jeep and on the ground. *tr

Purchased this jeep used last month. filled the jeep with gas. the gas poured out of the gas tank down the jeep and all over the ground. it happened again today. the gas is a pollutant. the gas is dangerous. i have never seen anything like this happen before. *tr

Fuel spills/splashes out after pump nozzle shuts off automatically. *tr

For several months thevehicle has been spilling fuel when filling up, and today it would not accept the fuel. *tr

Fuel spills/splashes out after pump nozzle shuts off automatically. this has happened four times in the last month at two different filling stations (four different pumps). the fuel spalshed down the rear and side of the vehicle and once all over my shoes. *tr

Fuel spits/sprays back when refueling

When filling with fuel some the automatic stop will trip on the pump when the tank is full then up to half a gallon of fuel will shoot back out of the filler hole. this has happened at various gas stations for the past several months. *tr

While refueling, the pump clicked off, and fuel spit back out onto the side of the car and my feet. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the driver was driving approximately 55 mph when various drivers alerted him to stop the vehicle. the contact maneuvered to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle. the contact then noticed that both rear wheel wells were on fire. the fire department appeared on the scene to extinguish the fire. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and no assistance was provided. the vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that grass was wedged between the fuel tank and body of the vehicle. as a result, the grass caught on fire. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 3,200. ...updated 08-03-12 *bf

Transmission is a standard shift when i let out on clutch the engine will stall. at first i thought because i was not letting out on clutch properly and had to get used to driving it.my boy friend who drives a diesel truck with a standard everyday had the incident happen to him and suggested we take it in for service .which they said they test drove and concluded no problems many times back to dealership with no luck now i'm out of warranty. the vehicle is very dangerous it stalls all the time when i sit and idle at a red light or a cross road at a stop sign when i let out on clutch it starts rolling fine when clutch is disengaged it will not take the gas then engine will sputter then die. can someone from your agency test my jeep please it is going to cause me to get into a wreck. i live in mobile alabama. *tr
