Death wobble, uncontrolable, violent shaking of front end of vehicle. very little streaing and breaking ability to move out of the flow of traffic. occures frequently, for example, three times in one week; traveling between 40 and 55 mph. i don't dare drive faster. jeep is not lifted or modified.
Suspension failure: i've had issues with my steering column since having bought this vehicle. about a week ago my gear box fell out of the vehicle causing loss of steering control. i have been having issues with the steering column shaking violently since having it repaired. this shaking was also a problem for me about three months ago.
Purchased vehicle from dealership tim short acura so. charleston wv took it back 2 days later 150 miles over it shaking real bad driving it. they told me they was ordering parts to fix it but now wants 2000.00 to repair it refusing to fix it it was unsafe to drive and it was inspected at state of wv inspection station 300 miles before i purchased it what do i do on the safety and inspection part of having my vehicle safe to drive
I was driving down a merge lane coming off of northbound highway 65 in springfield missouri entering onto james river freeway on 2/19/2018 when my jeep steering wheel started shaking violently. i pulled off the road and then drove very slowly for approximately 1 mile to park at my place of employment. i had to tow jeep. i would describe this as the "death wobble" that seems to be a not so uncommon issue with jeeps. i have high mileage, but replaced engine due to another jeep issue, so approximately 70000 miles on new engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle experienced the condition known as the "death wobble" while turning. the contact stated that the entire front end of the vehicle began to bounce up and down uncontrollably. the contact had to decelerate in order to regain control of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 16,000. the vin was not available.
At about 32000 my jeep wrangler starting experiencing the "death wobble". wheels were balanced and this seemed to correct for a while. at about 35000 miles the problem returned. the wobble seems to start at about 55 mph.
While driving, trac bar bracket broke off front axle & vehicle could not be steered or controlled. approx 2 weeks later, rear trac bracket broke off rear axle & vehicle was swaying, but could be controlled. the prior incidents mentioned above happened in 07/12 & 08/12. jeep dealer made repairs by re-welding brackets. on 11/10/2016 my wife was coming home from work & heard a loud bang and lost control of vehicle & it was bouncing violently & could not steer vehicle & almost crashed vehicle. trac bar bracket on front axle had broken off again after being repaired by jeep dealer.
When driving at speeds of 50 to 55 mph the jeep will go into an uncontrollable wobble which you have to bring the jeep to almost to a complete stop to get it under control .have had it to the place of purchase in june 2016 3 times. they say they have fixed it but it is still doing the same thing.last fix they turned brake rotors and reset tire pressure. no help. *tr
While driving, if the vehicle hits a small bump, the front end shakes violently back and forth until i am able to stop the vehicle. this problem is widespread and can be found on the internet as the "jeep death wobble". we've spent $900 to have this fixed and have been to 2 different garages to have it fixed and the mechanics can't find anything more that is wrong and claim it's a design flaw in the vehicle.
Letter from congressman forbes on behalf of constituent re 2007 jeep wrangler recall. *smd the consumer stated the transmission failed. also, the consumer experienced what was known as the "death wobble". *jb
Takata recall as of yesterday, december 14, 2015, a white tape started coming out of the steering column. a few weeks ago, the air bag light would come on and go back off which i thought was odd but, it went back out so i wasn't concerned and it never stayed on for any length of time. then yesterday i get in my jeep to go to work and as i turn the wheel out of my driveway, i could hear this noise like someone was wrinkling up paper. it is only eight miles from my home to work so, i kept listening to figure out what it was. by the time i got to work, there was a white tape coming out of the steering column. after work, i took it and had it looked at and was told that the "clock spring" is unraveling in the steering column. usually this is only seen when you have been in an accident and the air bag has been deployed. i have never been in an accident so, it should not be unraveling inside the steering column. i was also told, i shouldn't drive my vehicle because there is a chance the air bag will deploy. i got it home and now it is sitting in my driveway.
This problem is known as the jeep death wobble. on a 25 mile stretch of road between sonoita, az and tucson, arizona i had to pull off the road 5 times in one trip to stop dangerous and almost unmanageable front-end steering vibrations. jeep as far as i know has not issued a recall, but from reading automotive literature i understand that have issued 4 or 5 modification kits none of which has been successful in solving the problem. the jeep steers normally at low speed or on straight glass smooth highways. however above 40 mph with any rhythmic ripple or individual pothole a front end hopping vibration starts that can only be controlled by stopping the vehicle and then pulling back onto the highway. i had a non-dealer garage fix it once and jeep reimbursed me (but no formal recall). the problem reappeared in six months and i pressured the garage into fixing it again. some time after that the problem reoccurred and they would not do anything. according to automotive literature jeep as issued 4 or 5 different engineering changes for the problem, but none have produced a permanent fix. this tells me that the "jeep death wobble" is less if a wear issue, but rather an engineering failure. once the front end starts to bounce the tire in contact with the road will steer the vehicle to the opposite side of the road. then the tire on the other side comes down and steers the other direction and the front end bounces sided-to-side with increasing violence.
I was driving on the highway, i hit a small bump on my rear wheel and all of a sudden my whole vehicle had stared to shake vigorously including the steering wheel i had to move of the road and come to a complete stop in order for the wheel to stop shaking
This happens frequently when i hit a bump at highway speeds. the front end starts to shake so bad, i have almost gotten into accidents trying to get out of peoples way. i am scared to drive it, heaven forbid my wife ever drives it. i am scared to drive my own car. i have been told this is called the jeep death shake, and it happens to alot of jeep owners, why has there not been a recall to fix it before anyone else dies, i have heard that several people have died.
When i drive over 50 mph and hit a bump, the front end of the car shakes violently. it becomes very hard to control. the only way to stop the shaking is to slow down which made it extremely dangerous when i was driving on the highway and this happened.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving approximately 50-70 mph, the vehicle violently shook and experienced a loss of steering. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering stabilizer needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 29,985. updated 02/10/16*lj the consumer went to another repair shop, where he was informed the upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced. updated 04/05/16.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shook violently without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering column was loose and needed to be tightened. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000. the vin was unavailable.
Experienced the jeep death wobble while travelling at 70 mph on a highway. i thought that i had experienced a blow out and the tire was moving from side to side on the rim. this was extremely violent. after i got the vehicle stopped i inspected it for damage and could not find any obvious problems. this happened five more times on that trip. i took the car to a mechanic that found nothing wrong. had the tires rotated and balanced. they were in balance. started researching the problem and found out about the death wobble. found the steering damper was loose and tightened it. helped a little but problem still occurs. taking it to a dealer next to have the damping and alignment components replaced. i am the original owner and the vehicle is stock.
I have been experiencing an extreme shaking while operating the vehicle. i occurs very randomly and comes on with out notice. it occurs on the highway as well suburban streets and at any speed. i read an article from 08' from another person that had the same issue. it sounded like nothing was done from this organization and the vehicle maker. this is very unsafe situation for owners of this vehicle and is a safety hazard for others on the road. please respond to this message and let me know if something can and will be done. *tr
The front end began to shake violently after hitting an uneven road on a hill/curve. the shaking would not stop until i hit the brakes. this occurred three times in december of 2014. a mechanic said the steering stabilizer and front ball joints needed to be replaced and the problem was common with jeeps, known as the "death wobble". *tr
Death wobble. *tr
I just bought this in aug 2014. i was driving home from work and hit a bump my steer wheel went from side to side for about 5 seconds and the second time it happen i brought it to a dealer they said nothing wrong it happen 4 more times sense then they are now calling it the death wobble. *tr
We have had this incident many times before, referred to as the 'death wobble', had the steering pin replaced twice, and new tires, alignment and was fine for 3 months and yesterday it happened again, hit a bump in the road going 45 mph and jeep just started rocking and jumping all over the road, had to pull off the road the make it stop. when are you people going to do something about this????? when someone gets killed????? this is so dangerous and i cannot believe that this has not been recalled, so many people have this and are very upset, has this been looked into???? if you are for safety than this would have been looked into a long time ago!!!!! *tr
My vehicle developed a horrible wobble in the steering and suspension while driving at about 60 mph on the highway. i slowed down and the wobble stopped but persisted whenever i went approximately 60 mph. i took the vehicle to the dealership, they are very aware of the jeep death wobble however the cost of repairs is mine to bear. this could cause a significant accident, yet jeep is ignoring repairing this. to this day it is still not fixed 100%. *tr
When driving and vehicle hit a bump with right tire vehicle would begin violently shaking until slowed down to 15 mph. took to repair shop who diagnosed it with death wobble and replaced lower drag link and installed new tires. no issues so far. also both floorboards get wet when it rains. *tr
At 60 mph my jeep started violently shake. i had to pull off the interstate in the emergency lane. this has happened over 10 times. i took it to the dealer and he said ball joints and steering damper was bad. $1,100.00 to fix it. it is still not steering correctly. there is a popping in the steering wheel and shakes somewhat when i hit a bump in the road. this is very dangerous. i had no idea there was a death wobble in the jeep i loved so much. i will be trading the jeep for a different suv after i get the wobble fixed again. i am expecting a grand baby in dec and there is no way i will put it in the jeep. *tr
vehicle experiences violent shaking that requires you to dramatically slow down to stop. wobbles back and forth to an extreme that control is nearly lost. completely stock vehicle with factory replacement tires. tires are balanced and vehicle is aligned within spec. online research states this is called "death wobble" as result of mismatched fastener sizes in factory assembly. *tr
Violent shaking at 50 mph had to slow to 30 mph would happen with gradual corners crossing uneven pavement ie. on ramp. i replaced steering damper which seemed to alleviate problem. the vehicle has stock configuration the same brand and size of tires it was originally equipped with. *tr
Experience very loud and noisy exhaust manifolds, dealer found both intake manifolds to be defective and leaking , warranty repair and replaced both. #2 leak found in power steering, dealer stated leaks in lines, rack , and pump, warranty on all but the lines,#3 also found catalytic converter leak, recommend replacement (again happens to be under warranty) #4 found small hole in intermediate pipe, recommended replacement . #5 looking further dealership found cylinder head to be leaking!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes, covered under warranty. now i am beginning to wonder about this dealership, as i have never used them before not did i but the jeep from them. .#6 tech stated some wear in all ball joints , recommended replacement . #7 found steering damper to have a leak, recommended replacement, now as anyone can se there seems to be many issues related to my 07 jk. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. in addition, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal noise when accelerating and when the vehicle sporadically failed to start. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to the connection rod failing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v436000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
While driving on interstate and immediately after crossing over a bridge, the front end and steering wheel began to violently shake. braking did not bring the condition under control. fortunately i was in the right lane and able to pull onto the right shoulder. the shaking stopped when my speed fell below 25mph. i purchased this vehicle at approx 50,000 miles. this condition has never occurred before. clearly there is potential for outright loss of steering control, or potential for collision from behind due to need for rapid deceleration while driving at a highway speeds. *tr
Was driving down highway at 55 mph when the vehicle all the sudden started shaking violently. the steering wheel was shaking out of control, the front wheels were rapidly going back and forth. i had no control over the vehicle and nearly went off the road. i had to slow the vehicle down, in traffic, to about 35 before the shaking stopped. about 5 miles later down the road it happened again. i once again had to slow the vehicle down to stop the issue. the weather conditions were normal, the road conditions were good. after the incident, i took the vehicle to a repair shop and had some steering parts replaced. *tr
I was slowing while i was approaching a red light. the light turned green and i began my right turn. at this point, the front wheels wobbled and the steering tightened, taking me into the path of an oncoming vehicle (2010 ford f-150) slowing to a stop for his red light. upon impact, the seat belt (in use at the time) failed to actuate and the airbags failed to deploy, the driver's seat moved forward, throwing me into the steering wheel and windshield. i sustained a minor head laceration and impact trauma to the right chest. the combine speed of the crash was approximately 25-30 miles per hour. a passenger in the other vehicle was treated and released from the local hospital. *tr
I was driving approximately 55-60mph, there were some mild tar bumps in the road that i drove over and the car proceeded to the death wobble. it is exactly as everyone else has noted, the jeep felt like all 4 wheels were coming off, the jeep shook voilently, was extremely hard to handle. i slowed my speed and pulled off the road. the car felt like it was going to come apart. this is a known problem to chrysler and to this organization, why won't you do something about it????? with only 33k miles, i now have to get a new car because i am in fear of driving this one. if this had happened in the middle lane of an expressway....it could have been tragic and deadly....is that what you are waiting for? hope it isn't anyone you know when it does happen!
The 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited x model began violent shaking in the front end at highway speeds. the shaking started mildly then became violent. i slowed down and the shaking subsided but this is extremely dangerous when the traffic flow is moving at faster rates. an on-line search indicates that this is common in this model. i believe this should be recalled and fixed. *tr
When traveling at 45 mph i made a slight left turn in the road and went over a long small bump in the road maybe from a road seam that was filled in. both wheels hit it at the same time and the jeep slowly started shaking until it became very violent inside the jeep. i had to slow my speed down to approx 10 mph to get it to stop. i happened to have a coworker behind me who saw the whole thing from behind and said the car was shaking back and forth so much that it looked like my rims were almost touching the road since my tire treads stayed straight. it felt like i had 4 flats. i changed the steering dampener and the shocks to rancho brand which are larger than the oem but it happened again but not nearly as bad since i now know when it could possibly happen. if there were cars next to me i would have hit them. this is a very real problem which is scary. any help would be appreciated. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph over a road bump, the vehicle and the steering wheel began to vibrate excessively and caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. the contact erroneously drove off the roadway. the contact had the vehicle diagnosed by an independent dealer, who replaced the steering stabilizer but the defect was not remedied. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 59,000. updated 03/11/14*lj
I bought a new 2007 jeep wrangler death wobble started at 70,000 miles mark mitsubishi in phoenix az has not helped me out at all it goes every 10,000 miles on me and they just replaced my tires. death wobble occurred the day after and before. how do we all get together who have this problem and get jeep to be responsible for a defective front end. death wobble is not only scary it is dangerous and i hope that it doesn't take someone getting killed for them to finally replace it. *tr
Driving on 4 lane non-interstate road in the rain at approximately 40 mph. drove through a puddle that seemed to affect the left front tire only and the front end began to shake violently as though something had came loose. there was a strong pull to the left also. i'm thinking i will have to get the front end checked out, stopped at a grocery store for a few things and when headed home the shake is still there, but not so violent. parked at home overnight and headed out the next day to get it looked at and there is no shake whatsoever, vehicle drives like it always has. in doing some research on the internet i see a problem others seem to be having exactly like mine and it's being called the "death wobble". it has not done this since this one time but it has me worried that it will at any time, and could be very dangerous. *tr
On the 2007 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags.this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2007 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. *tr
i was driving on highway when hitting 65mph and jeep started to shake uncontrollably. i would have to stop and pull over to a lower speed for it to stop. but if i was in left lane and it started i couldn't swing to breakdown lane so would have to stop immediately in traffic. very unsafe but better than causing accident. i replaced the steering stabilizer last summer with no relief. why is jeep not handling this ? why are people like us spending thousands of dollars on a vehicle just to have cause life threatening issues i have many things and read up on this death wobble of jeep. is it something i can get lawyers involved ? *tr
Stock 2007 with fairly new original size tires wrangler with "death wobble" at 55 miles an hours the jeep begin to shake violently and i had to slow below 45 for the wobble to stop. after i had the recommended upgrade to the steering dampener i was traveling through a canyon on i-70 and went over an expansion joint. i almost lots control and hit the car next to me related to this wobble. this jeep has been taken this vehicle to the dealer 5 times in the last three months, they have replaced every possible part on the front end of this car. the tires are from 2009 with almost 2/3 tread remaining. the dealership is at a lost for why this problem continues. i have decided to sell the jeep back to the dealer because i am no longer able to feel safe and will not take my family in this care. the wobble is very unpredictable and therefore very hard to duplicate but none the less it is very possible to lose control when this occurs. please look into why this is so common before someone is killed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle was shaking uncontrollably. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 37,000. updated 8/27/14*cn the consumer stated at 35,000 miles the steering shaft was replaced and at 37,000 miles the steering damper was replaced. updated 09/111/4
I took my wife's 2007 jeep wrangler jk (4 door automatic) to courthouse shell here locally to get the state inspection done (my first time for this since purchasing it on july 1st 2012 from checkered flag toyota in greenbrier). i received a call saying that the horn did not work, what did i want to do? my wife had said that it had been working the previous week. well, i said that i want it fixed. the mechanic showed me that the fuse in the fuse-box was not getting any power and they needed more time to troubleshoot it, so they kept it overnight, they then incorrectly said it was a simple relay which they would order and receive later that second day, and they finally figured out that the air bag and the horn were incapacitated due to a faulty $269 airbag clockspring assembly which had to be special ordered from a dealership, so they ended keeping it over the weekend, the steering wheel had been disassembled and would cost more in labor to reassemble. another option given that he explained to me that he could run a jumper wire to a pushbutton switch to make the horn work but the airbag would not be guaranteed to function as needed in an accident. i made the safe decision to have them replace the entire assembly. i was quite upset though to have to dish out $389.75 total for parts and labor. i have the receipt to show it in the event that jeep ever decides to recall that flimsy and unsafe assembly. there seems to be many complaints lodged regarding this same issue online. considering that this issue not only affects the horn but also the airbag system which was unknowingly disabled for a week or so, the safety of the driver should always be paramount. thank god that my wife did not have an accident, the airbag would most likely not have deployed. i will be taking this up with jeep. *tr
I was driving on the highway, hit a bump in the road while changing lanes. the car started shaking very violently. i has to pull off the road slowing to about 40 mph in order to regain control of the vehicle and stop the shaking. when the shaking starts the entire vehicle shakes so violently it is hard to steer or even focus on the road because you are shaking too. i have had the vehicle in to jeep dealerships on a number of occasions and they all tell me the suspension is fine. finally this last time, after complaining of the "death shake" as i have come to research and discover, they were able to put a larger steering dampener on my vehicle than was there in order to control the shaking. i still feel vibrations at expressway speeds but it is not violent shaking anymore. this repair cost over $250. *tt
Hit a pothole traveling at 70 mph the vehicle experienced a violent shaking until i stopped . *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the front end of the vehicle shook violently without warning. the vehicle was merged to the shoulder and was powered off then restarted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 94,000.
I was driving on the freeway in excess of 70mph when i hit a very minor imperfection in the road. the vehicle immediately began to shake/hop and steering become uncontrollable i nearly caused a major pile up on i-35. this has happened numerous times and i've owned the car very little time. luckily i gained control before a catastrophic event happened. this is 100% a jeep design flaw it is referred to as "death wobble" and no if ands or buts; they need to be held accountable. all we as buyers ask is to be put in a safe and functional vehicle. my child has to ride in this car. there are literally thousands of reports of the same problem all over the nation. it is not ok for this to go on any longer. something has to be done lives are at stake. is that not important anymore? please watch the youtube videos so you can view what the wheels and car actually do and you will understand exactly how serious this is. *tr
Driving my stock 2007 jeep wrangler on i-77 in charleston wv at 65mph. started rounding a left hand curve in the road when i hit some minor bumps in the road. the vehicle started bouncing and shaking violently nearly causing me to lose control of the vehicle. i was able to slow and pull off to the side of the road. the shake went away at about 15-20 mph. i thought for sure a wheel was coming off. i slowed my speed but this still happened three more times before i could get it to royal jeep in charleston where i had to leave it and rent a car for the night. after describing the incident to the service advisor stated it sound like a bad steering damper shock and stated that he has dealt with this problem before. i picked up the vehicle the next day to a tune of $205.00 plus the rental car($64.00) and drove back to cleveland oh without another incident. mark by word, someone will die someday if this problem is not corrected quickly. *tr
Front end shakes violently, feels like a flat tire or a loose wheel. stopped & checked tires, found nothing wrong. got back in vehicle and drove. this has happen at least 2 other times. i believe it is called a death wobble. was pretty scary. *tr
